Nice burger and sandwiches! Service is nice too. I went to this place for a lunch with my colleagues. They said the Steak Tacos were good. I like this dinner because it reminds the other dinner I used to eat back home. Western grill style, outdoor sports decorations, lots of choice for beverages. Next time I will be back for dinner and try the steaks. It costs $12/person for a decent lunch for everyone including appetizers, lunch, drinks, tips...

Food was "eh", small portions, my fish tacos looked more like an appetizers w/ barely any fish, all food was under seasoned. Would not come back.

This place always has good food, good drinks, and a good vibe. It's a great sport bar and has slightly unique food , for example the sweet potato tots are excellent, as are all their burgers. It's a good place for drinks or to eat. We usually end up sitting at the bar, and the staff is always very personable and attentive. It's a little on the pricey side as far as bar food, but it's damn good so no complaints here.

We strolled into this place on a Saturday afternoon. The waitress was good, but not very friendly - she even seemed a bit haughty when I asked for Sweet Tots (which have been recommended in several reviews on Yelp with the latest date of 7/18/11). She said they don't serve them, just fries. I pointed to the menu where they are listed as an option and she says, "Nope, just fries." I was looking for an explanation of "we ran out" or "we don't serve them anymore" or "I'm sorry, that's only on weekdays." But instead, she just kept telling me how they only have fries. When I referenced the Yelp review, she said, "Well, Yelp lies." I scowled at her. Despite this, the food was pretty good. I had the Seared Ahi Tuna Burger (which isn't really a burger, it's a tuna steak). It was delicious! With a side of sweet potato fries that were perfectly cooked and without unnecessary seasonings. My bf had the fish tacos wish were "what you'd expect." I noticed from the menu that several things are called "burgers" when they aren't. Their veggie "burger" is just veggies (mainly a chile relleno) on a bun - not a patty. My tuna "burger" wasn't a burger. Not that this makes the sandwiches less tasty - they're just not burgers, and it bugs me that they are misnamed. I wouldn't avoid this place - the food is pretty good. But I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there.

LOVED this place. We had a scratch off "Golden Ticket" promo piece and happened upon this spot as they accepted. What also drew us in was the sign outside that said "voted best burger in Jefferson County". It was pretty crowded but in minutes we got a booth. Warm and cozy. Here is what I loved: - we started w/nachos - ooooooh yum. Creamy cheesy sauce but just enough and red and green jalapenos on top. - I had the soup and salad. Great fresh salad and their White Chicken Chili. This was also noted as an award winner and it was so tangy with a little kick and oh so delish. - my beau had the Blue Canyon Burger (had blue cheese, bacon and well I had a bite and was amazing. He is a tough critic when it comes to burgers and commented that he coudl see why it won a "best". - he also had giant onion rings w/it. I snagged one and they were divine. - lastly we were there on a Sat night around 6 pm so got Coors lights for $1.50! Our waittress was really good. Quick, helpful and made sure we were happy. The whole staff seemed very friendly. We are definitly going back. Oh, and our scratch off was 15% off so covered a few beers which was added plus. Defintily hit this place and get the chili or a burger. Super stuff!

Great burgers, great beer selection, fun atmosphere. The service was friendly and fast, and the prices ($9 - 11 for pretty much everything on the menu) very agreeable. Can't wait to go back for another of their mouthwatering burgers.

Great food, love their ahi tuna sandwich; good atmosphere -- I wish there was a hostess for seating because its seat yourself but otherwise a great addition to Golden's restaurant scene.

Headline: Stick with the burgers. My wife and I had just done a hike up in Golden Gate Canyon state park, which is close by, and were ready for lunch. Burgers sounded good, and Yelp helped us find a place. The Blue Canyon Bar & Underground is located along Washington St in the center of Golden. There is ample parking round the back. The bar is quiet, with a few booths in addition to the two-toppers at the front. It's your typical bar/restaurant setup, so nothing special on the decor. I opted for the "Bleu Canyon" - if they name the burger almost after the place, it has to be good, right? It's a half-pound burger with bleu cheese melted on top of bacon. The test, as always, is can they cook it to temperature? The burger came our perfectly cooked. The bacon and bleu cheese worked well together. The bun - a smaller kaiser roll - was a little too small for the burger, and it wasn't toasted, which I would have liked. I opted for sweet potato tots (other option was fries). The tots were crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, not greasy at all, and actually seasoned. My wife ordered the fish tacos. These were your basic "street taco" sized fish tacos wrapped in white corn tortillas with the usual cabbage, pico, avocado and dressing. You get four tacos to an order. The flavor on the fish was excellent. However, there was too much "stuff" in each taco, and it was almost cold. They provided lime slices instead of wedges. You can't squeeze a lime slice, so fail there. Overall, this is a solid burger place. I'd avoid the fish tacos (unless you like them cold). If I am in the area again, I will consider this place. But there are other places in Golden that I would try out first.

After a tour of the Coors brewery my wife and I decided to try Blue Canyon Grill. We ordered the Steak Tacos with black beans and rice & Avocado Nachos. The steak tacos - meat was seasoned good and cooked perfectly, they had a little bit of coleslaw all placed on a corn tortilla. The combination of the steak with the coleslaw was very nice. The only problem was the tortilla, when you picked it up and tried ti eat it the corn tortilla cracked and crumbled. This would have been easy to solve if you warm or steam the tortilla before assembling the taco. The Avocado nachos were were very good. Fried won ton chips covered with queso, fire roasted salsa, diced avocado and a scoop of sour cream. The nachos were so good I am going to try to make these at home.

This was my go-to bar in Golden. The staff was always nice and the happy hour drinks were good. I even found myself meeting the bartenders and waitstaff at other bars after the end of the night and having a drink with them.

The red chili was DELICIOUS, but everything else was just a hint of "meh". Everything sounded interesting, but I guess it was more conceptual than substantial. The interior is cool, would have liked to see a separate men and women's room, but that's just me. I was the victim of "seat up" when I used the restroom. I bet if I lived in the area, though, I would really like this bar. The space is awesome, and I probably would have given different menu items a go around. That being said, though, they should think about investing in muzak or someone's iPod or satellite radio as their music choice. They had a radio station that really failed (think Train, DMB, Nickelback etc... it was like agroup of frat boys ran the station), and the constant political ads were really distracting, especially given all the crazies that seem to be running on all sides of the aisle this year.

My husband and I went here for a date night......so disappointing! I ordered chile rellanos. They were greasy and way overdone. The rice was watery and was flavored so strong with garlic that it was all I could smell throughout dinner. Had the waitress been more attentive, the restaurant would have made more money because I would have liked to have ordered an appetizer. Gross food.....minimal service.

If you are on the way to the airport and end up in this area, great place for a good burger. I have to save the beer batter onion rings are great. The clam chowder was very good and the burgers were made just right.

Decent food but the service was absolutely horrible and incredibly unprofessional! There are plenty of places to dine in Golden, so do yourself a favor and steer clear unless you have no choice.

This is my go to place when I'm looking for a place to relax and have a burger and a beer. Thick juicy burgers with excellent buns. I really LOVE the buffalo chicken sandwich, spicy yum! If you're looking for a cheap meal go with a friend and split the nachos they are enormous. They have just moved to their new location and it's soooo much nicer. I've been going here for over two years and I wanted to wait till they opened their new place so I could give it five stars. Bar scene is good too. Skirt night, karaoke, live DJ, really good all night shot specials and margaritas during happy hour

Went here for lunch on a Sunday. Pro's Good service Nice clean bar Burger's were good Shoestring Fries Cons Limited Menu I thought it was a nice little place, nothing remarkable, but after reading some of the reviews here I think this place could have a very different vibe depending upon when you go. To me it seemed like it had an identity crisis. Not a sports bar, not a local hangout, not a restaurant.....all in all you could do worse when looking for a burger and a beer IMO!

I love love love this place! Our favorite server is Holden, he's super nice! Our favorite appetizer is the avocado nachos. We've eaten the fish tacos, a burger, a couple of the wraps and they were all delicious!

Hmmmm, I am still drooling over the queso and the fried mac and cheese we had on Friday night at Blue Canyon. These are two seriously good appetizers - good portions at a decent price. We were going to order more food, but got stuffed off these two apps...they were so worth it! This is a pretty low key establishment, which I love. There is a nice little patio to sit on when it's nice outside. Inside offers quite a few tables, plenty of TVs to watch sports on, and two pool tables. Service was friendly and prompt. The crowd on Friday night was mixed, and even though we are not Golden locals, we felt instantly welcome.

Don't get talked into being seated in "The Underground" during the dinner rush. We were told it would be cooler on the lower floor in the evening. Having a family member in town we just decided on this place and had never been before. I can say we will most likely never be back. We were seated in the underground which is the bar in the basement with concrete walls, concrete floors, and probably a concrete ceiling (I didn't look at it). It was so loud with only one other group in the room that I couldn't hear a thing anyone at our table was saying. The food was a step above bar food and not by much. I ordered a bbq chicken wrap that was decent, nothing to note about it other than it was chicken wings wrapped up with salad. My wife ordered nachos and ate about three of them over the course of 45 minutes while we were there. After leaving she said they were made with Velveeta cheese and the chips tasted stale as well. Overall a poor experience, go here if you want to get hammered eat some bar food and enjoy the reverberations of your own voice off the walls while you destroy your hearing.

This is one place I miss in Golden. I spent my 21st birthday in here getting wasted... (NEW YEARS) The catch was I could come in before the clock struck twelve but I had to sit in front of the bartender and could not have a drink... Easy enough right? HA Well the bar keep made sure people bought me shots and sat them in front of me till midnight... he teased me horribly! I drank my shots played my pool and woke up by my toliet so I accomplished what I set out to do I suppose! But the night was fun! I went back a million times for the great drink specials and the food was always great! Everyone is always so nice in this place! CHEERS!

Family (w/2 boys 6&8) went for dinner while visiting area and were totally pleased with all: quality, variety, service, price, atmosphere... I'd give it a 5 for a Bar but no a 5 without that qualifier so 4 it is!

  • Rachel G.

For bar food, its ok. They are extremely understaffed which led to my veggie burger being returned to the kitchen 2 times (neither beef or bison are deemed eatable by a vegetarian). My boyfriend really enjoyed his soggy mac and cheese and greasy fried zucchini. I was left unimpressed and am not going to be running back anytime soon. If you are drunk and need some food, this might be the place to go.

First place we hit on 'Main Street" after moving to Golden. Not the biggest restaurant in the world but my wife and I and our two kids sat in a nice table right behind the bar. The server gal was really nice and kept bringing our kids crackers while we waited for the food. We had to wait a fair amount of time for the food, but once it came it was lights out. My wife got their "Award Winning Chicken Chili" which was awesome. I got the Chicken Quesadilla which was probably the best I have ever had - the peppers were roasted perfectly. Job well done and you just won yourself some regulars! Update - went back the next week and my wife had the quesadilla which ruled and I had the Chicken/Rice soup which ruled and the Chicken Club on Sourdough which also ruled - did I mention this places rules? DEC 2012 Update - been here probably 10 times since we moved here in May. Sadly the last trip was our last. The turnover at this place is so extreme you literally have a new waiter every visit and I know the kitchen staff has come and gone a few times over. The food is still good but not nearly what it used to be. I had the french dip w/swiss and it was all bread, very little meat and a bunch of swiss melted on top of and around the sandwich. Worst of all - we were charged $9 freaking dollars for at best a 3 oz pour of Kendall Jackson Chardonnay. Our bill at lunch was over $150 due to the outrageous wine charges and worst pours I have seen in some time. Go across the street to the Wine Bar - the food is much much better and they actually give you some wine for your money. Sorry Blue Canyon, but the run is over.

Burgers were OK, service was terrible from the bartender. Apparently at some points of the day the bartender takes the table orders as well, and when he walked to the front of the restaurant where we were seated he had a rude attitude, and we saw him when we sat down, when we got our food, and finally we had to ask someone else for our check.

Stopped in here last Saturday for some lunch before hitting the Coors Brewery. I wasn't sure what to expect but was really hungry. The place was nice, not over packed, and seemed really clean. We decided to take a seat at the bar, which had ample space and college football was playing on the TV's. We ordered a green chili burger and the fish and chips. My boyfriend enjoyed his burger but said he wished the chilis were a little more sliced up because they made the burger a little hard to eat. My fish and chips had good flavor, but the fish was kind of odd. Not that it was bad, it just was all shaped exactly the same, so it must have been pre-made. All in all it was good, we did sit at the bar and I saw someone elses' food sit for a while while two waiters chit chatted and did nothing until the bartender asked them to please run some food for him. I'd definitely go back again and try a couple of other items, it didn't disappoint at all!

The food that came out of the window where the waitress keeps the fries she is snacking on warm, was actually really good. Sweet potato tots were all right, but definitely need a sauce or garnish to make them memorable. The blue burger was tasty and cooked correctly, and the white chicken chili was just as good as advertised in the menu. Service however, was very poor. Sat way too long without any contact from the waitstaff. When it finally appeared, it was with a "you want some drinks?" by a guy wearing some gargoyle style Oakley's looking somewhere above us. My only guess is that he was catching a boxing highlight on the t.v. behind him in the mirror above us. I guess I should have been happy that he actually approached the table, since when it was time for us to order food, we got a "you ready yet?" from across the bar to our booth. Subsequently, our food was delivered correctly and timely. Unfortunately, during the delivery of our food and all interactions after that, we were treated and spoken to with nothing but blatant rudeness and indifference. Now, I'm not a fan of the over-friendly Olive Garden server crackin' jokes about sharing breadsticks, and who pays gets to divvy up the mints, but come on man. Approach the table, remove the knock-off sunglasses, make eye contact, wait for the response when asking a question before walking away, and drop the I'm too cool to wait on you attitude. Fake it. It isn't that hard. Actually, work on getting some regulars and a bar-top lunch crowd so you don't have to steal tables from the servers in the first place. By doing this, not only will you justify the money you borrowed from your mom for bartending school, you will put more money in the server's pockets. Then maybe they could afford to buy a breakfast burrito or something on their way into work instead of hustling fries from the cook.

Food was OK - The food was cool on some spots of the plate. Margaritas were a down right out disgrace. I think they put sprite in the mix. Service was OK but they seemed short handed so you can't blame them for being rushed. Ambiance was....well...there wasn't any - felt like an empty room and it was 3/4 full. Won't be back unless I see some changes have been made.

  • Timothy P.

Food was better than average yet cost a bit more than I expected for what it was. High end burgers, chilli and quesadillas with gourmet cheeses and fixings are the norm as are a number of signature drinks that fill out the menu at Blue Canyon. The atmosphere is a little loud due to all the hard but lovely surface in this establishment. Portions seemed like a good fit but somethings are holding this place back from five stars. Service was obviously taxed due to lack of wait staff. Being told to "just hold on" when I point to an empty drink is a major party foul. The saddest part of my meal was that I kept wishing the BBQ I could smell down the street, would magically appear on my plate... Sometimes it is truly better to follow your nose/instincts than an online recommendation.

Good little burger joint. Tried the Buffalo instead of their angus and it was delicious. Their sweet potatoe fries and regular fries were good also. I was recommended to this place by the Coor's brewery after asking if anyone had the "7 minute pour" beer but apparently they had done away with this about a week ago. Friendly staff and good food.

This place is great! Last time I went I got a rare ahi tuna sandwich that was out of this world. This time I got the chicken club. It was amazing! Their sandwiches are kind of gourmet/specialty meaning that they take it to the next level with creativity. They also have sweet potato or regular fries that are as good as fries get. The prices are standard. They have a decent enough selection of local beers as well.

I ordered jambalaya. What I got: spaghetti with meat! WTH? I guess, what can you expect from a bar? We came here b/c my bf's brother likes to drink and he comes here often for drinks. and it was late so it was the only thing open. Food wasn't great at all. The menu sounded interesting. Jambalaya - fettucini with a tomato-y sauce with sausage and shrimp. When I got my plate, it was basically spaghetti and meatballs. and no shrimp! at least, no real shrimp. It looked like tiny shrimp that you get from a can. Taste: the "jambalaya" was ok. Just like normal spaghetti. I was famished so I actually finished the entire dish! The meat/sausage was pretty tasty and you could taste the spice. i also got a side salad that came with it, which was alright. Service: ok. the waiter was cracking jokes with us. price: $11 for "jambalaya". Overall: i've had better food.

We came and we tried ordering a couple items but they were out of queso which means we couldn't order at least 1/2 of the items on the menu. The items we ordered (tacos & a burger) were good but maybe a little pricey. Also, we ordered a kids meal. While they didn't have a menu for kids they told us what they had and so we got the Mac & cheese. It ended up being Kraft from the box and we also found out that it was $6 for it! We also had a lemonade for my son which was $2.50!!! The kids meal was pricey but $2.50 for a kids drink that never gets refilled! Wow! I don't think we will be back with those prices.

Nice place, Decent, cheap pool tables. Great happy hour, foods not bad. Staff kinda look and act like they fell out of Stifler's ass, but other than that, a good place to knock back a few. I hear they treat bands like shit.

This place has HORRIBLE service!! The staff is so unfriendly they make it seem like you're bothering them when you ask them for anything - even though they're working in the service industry and its their JOB to service you! And the bar tenders either ignore you or are just so blatantly rude - no wonder this place is a dive bar and a ratchet raggedy restaurant - the staff makes it that way! And to top it all off, all of the food I ordered was burnt to a crisp and when I tried to point this out they made it seem like my fault LOL and did any of the bartenders go to school for bartending?? The drinks were even worse, they didn't even give me what I ordered and even then they made it seem like my fault - why do they expect a tip when they're service is laughable? Customers beware, if you're looking for horrible food, crappy service, and a staff that hates their lives and you too, then go ahead go to the Blue Canyon Bar and Grill, I warned you...

Try: Nachos, Mac & Cheese, Burgers, Fish Tacos. Not hungry? Go for happy hour. Seriously. And then get a burger anyway. Skirt night = free drinks if you're wearing a skirt, no matter what gender. $5 Cover though, but all-you-can-drink after that. Friendly faces, lots of locals, karaoke on Saturdays, and annoyingly crowded with the college crowd on weekends. It's okay, though, they're tried and true and I'm faithful.

This place is full of energy! The staff and service was awesome and I had the queso burger, which was delicious. Tonight is Goldens street fair, so the band playing is right out front and they have a garage door that opens up to the Main Street. They also have a bar downstairs, but a huge party was down there, so I chose to stay at the bar upstairs. It's a shame that this place is kind of hidden, great atmosphere! Not sure why the bad remarks, but I'll definitely go back.... Cheers

I stopped in for lunch after a massage across the street. I sat at the bar and was helped as soon as I sat down. The bartender was super friendly and chatted me up with pretty useful information about the lovely area that is Golden! I ordered a buffalo cheeseburger and fries. The burger was a bit dry, the bun was soft and almost soggy. The veggies on the burger looked like they were about to expire! The worst part...the fries. I am an admitted fry snob and I only like HOT AND CRISPY! These were neither. Truthfully, I did clean my plate but it was my first meal of the day at 3pm so...... It wasn't terrible just not great. Service however, was great.

Little hole-in-the-wall pub off the main drag with a more serious bar downstairs. Clean & well-maintained but not too fancy. Not a huge menu, basic bar food. I had the southwest chicken wrap, wife had buffalo wings, 3 year old had cheese pizza. All delicious. Good, attentive but not overbearing service.

  • Krista W.

Excellent food and service. Our server Mark was very attentive and polite. We ordered the avocado nachos as an appetizer. They were huge and delicious. We ordered the BLATT wrap and the twisted chicken for our entrées and they did not disappoint. They have a great beer selection as well. We can't wait to come back!

I read reviews that the service here wasn't that great. But the guy serving us seemed really friendly along with the rest of the staff. The fries are amazing, so definitely try those. I ordered a turkey cranberry sandwhich. It was beyong delicious. It was exactly what I was in the mood for. My boyfriend ordered a bacon guacamole burger and loved it. For dessert we had a rootbeer float. The restaurant was clean and everyone was happy and welcoming. An amazing place to eat and I would definitely recommend coming here.

Eve (my server) rocked my world tonight with great service, a kind smile and over the top service (including making me a salad dressing that they don't have on their menu to satisfy my craving). It is a basic bar/burger bar but the food was great - perfectly prepared sandwich (super juicy), beers on special, french fries made fresh and a great salad (with special sauce). I will definitely return to Blue Canyon Grill next time I am in Golden!

Food was mediocre at best. Buns for the sandwiches and burgers were dry. My Blue burger (which the waitress recommended) was well done when I ordered medium rare. Ice tea and Arnold palmers were completely watered down. I would not recommend.

Had the most intriguing menu in downtown Golden. You could smell the burgers down the block. Sat outside on the nice patio and split a cheeseburger and the bacon spinach wrap with my mom. Both were delicious and I would come back to eat both. Dinner total was less than $30 for both items and a beer. Entire menu was reasonably priced and service was excellent. Also saw someone eating the fish sandwich which looked really tasty. Seemed to be known for burgers as everyone at the bar had one. Smelled so good.

We went to the Blue Canyon underground after a wedding reception and had a great time! We were looking for a place with some type of activity; dancing, games, etc. The underground here had both! We were greeted with a dance floor with strobe lights, a jukebox, and giant jenga! There were also some drink specials that were pretty spectacular; I think our whiskey shots (ughhh, whyyy did I do whiskey shots) were something like $3. We had a lot of fun and would definitely return if we were in the area!

Wow! This place was great... No idea why it wasn't busier. Great service, first off. Awesome Bahama mama. I got the ahi tuna salad: The tuna strips were thick and perfectly seasoned. The waiter recommended some lime dressing and it went perfectly with the dish. We got a side of fries that came with ranch and they really hit the spot! My boyfriend got a buffalo burger and an IPA and enjoyed both. Definitely would go here again.

Wanted to go to D'deli but the line was too long so we headed to the nearest place that offered outdoor dining, The Blue Canyon. The four of us sat outside and I approached the bartender to let them know. After 15 minutes I had to go back in and remind them we were outside. Finally getting menus and waters, we immediately put our food order in. I've been siting here for the last 30 minutes with no more water and no food (typing this review as I wait). We would have gotten our sandwiches already had we waited in line--- my suggestion-- don't go here, go to D'deli. This place sucks.

I had the basic burger with American cheese. It was excellent. My son had the fire burger. It has jalapeños, hot sauce, and pepper jack. Wow! I would not be able to handle that. He loved it. Service was good, prices were medium 11-15, and seating was plentiful. Overall, a good experience.

Great service and local beer selection. . . . too bad the food is so bad. Go here for the beer but NOT the food. We gave it a second chance and our last for food.....

If you're ever in Golden, this is a place you might consider visiting. This was a very average restaurant but we did like it. My girlfriend ordered a caesar salad with chicken and I ordered the nachos. Both were fine but overpriced. The nachos were good but a little cold; the service was actually pretty fast but I wonder if my meal sat for a little while. We sat out on the street, which was very pleasant because Golden is a hoppin' place. The night we were there there were old cars all around town, so there was plenty of people watching to be done.Unfortuntely, despite being in a town known for its beer, you cannot drink outside because they don't have it roped off yet. This is a bummer but not a huge deal. The service was fine but not great - we didn't see our waitress enough but she was certainly nice enough. If you're in town for several days, this could be a place you visit. Overall, we wish we'd gone somewhere else though.

Turkey wrap, chicken sandwich and fish tacos were good. Fish n chips were undercooked which is a big no no. Diet coke and slaw were blah. This place isn't worth the price in my humble opinion. But the chips n salsa were yummy!

Waited 45 mins for appetizers and then over an hour after that for food. Not worth the wait!!!

My husband and I ate here because we'd never tried it, though we've lived in the area for years. We were disappointed with the very slow kitchen and the quality of the food. Initially, the bartender was cheerful, but as more customers arrived, the kitchen fell further behind and he left the bar to work in back, telling us over his shoulder that we could have a free beer since we were waiting so long. Through the divider, we watched him take charge in the kitchen as if the 3 people already there didn't know what to do. Maybe they were just prep cooks? One was obviously the microwave manager since he shoved dishes in it and took them out as fast as possible. My husband got a burger and I ordered a wrap with cranberries in it. The bartender said first that they couldn't make it because they'd run out of cranberries, but a minute or so later, he said someone had just returned from the grocery store with more cranberries. OK, great, except it wasn't. We waited about 45 minutes to receive our food, and my wrap didn't have any cranberries in it and tasted bland. The burger was only adequate. Only the sweet potato fries were tasty, but we hadn't come just for good fries. According to the bartender/manager, Blue Canyon has been in business 10 years, but on the day we visited, the whole crew behaved as if they were newbies to the scene. Not sure what the problem was, but I won't go there again.

In short, chips from a bag, salsa from a jar, reheated beans from the can and microwaved enchiladas. Longer review here: The menu at this place is traditional Mexican American. It appears, based on other reviews, that the menu used to be different. It now has burritos, tacos, enchiladas, etc. I ordered the spinach enchiladas and we had chips and salsa as an appetizer. With the entire group, we had a wide array of food to sample. In all cases, the beans were old and seemed like they came out of a can from the grocery store. No one was particularly satisfied with the food and mine, in particular, was bad. The spinach was OK, but the tortilla was store bought and the cheese on top was barely melted. On the positive side, the beer selection was great and the service was pretty good. I would probably stop back for a beer and nothing else, if I happened to be in the area.

We should have known not to go in...as there was no wait on a Saturday night at 6:15 pm. The other Mexican restaurant in town was on an hour wait. We ordered the mahi fish tacos, a kids taco and a plate of nachos that we waited over 55 minutes for. The server was very nice, but the kitchen staff left something to be desired! I have never seen a plate of nachos come out the way that they did. My son had a total of 8 chips with some dried out meat and cheese on them. As we were waking out of the restaurant, we overheard a young kid say "this food is not worthy to wait an hour for." I would definitely not recommend this restaurant to anyone! I might suggest hiring someone other than a 17 year old to run the kitchen.

Great spot, just stopping through golden and came in for beers and lunch. Good food selection, had avocado nachos and a jacked up steak sandwich, both were very good. Service was friendly and quick, have a good draft selection and a full bar. Would recommend for a stop in.

Meh. Not very impressed overall. Fairly poor service. My burger was good aside from them cooking my fried egg all the way through and hardening the yolk to the point it was solid and rubbery. The nachos came with barely any cheese on them and what cheese did come ontop was cold as if it had just come out of a refrigerator. After mentioning this issue they only comped them 50%. Which means I had to pay for nachos that were pretty terrible. I'd avoid this place. I'm surprised they do business this way in such a small town. Word should travel quickly about this place around here. Not worth the visit at all.

I really wanted to like this place, but I just couldn't bring myself to. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive. However, we waited for almost an hour for our 4 burgers. We didn't order any appetizers so he brought us some chips and salsa on the house since we were already waiting at about 30 minutes at this point. When we kept asking where our food was he continued to reply with "it should only be a few more minutes". An hour later we got our burgers and they were all rare. Not medium rare, but rare. We asked for medium and they were clearly undercooked. The outside looked burnt but once they were cut opened they were literally bleeding on the bun. When we informed the chef he looked disgruntled as if we didn't know what we were talking about. The server took great care of us and didn't charge us, but the way the kitchen staff treated us was no excuse. We didn't even want them to make us another order since we were worried it would take them another hour...

This restaurant has great possibilities . The atmosphere is nice, the location is great, the staff is courteous, however the food is not great. We have been here a handful of times hoping that it will get better. We were there this week and order the nachos, they came out and were cold, the waiter got us a new order but they weren't much better. We also order a kids chicken nuggets meal and it came with 2 nuggets and a baskets of fries, we were supposed to get apples and didn't. Hoping changes will be made to make the food better.

Hate this place. The potential is great, but there is no care for the food and the service is terrible. I can't believe it average 3 stars. The food is sub-par bar food and usually served cold. Do yourself a favor and eat elsewhere. Overpriced too.

The blue canyon is a place with mediocre food. I had the pablano pepper burger. It was just a burger with raw pepper rings on it. No big deal. I think if they butterfly the pepper, grill it until tender then top it all with pepper jack cheese and "season the meat ' they would much better burger. The wife had cranberry turkey wrap. It was good but if they use cranberry sauce in it not just in the cream cheese that it will be better. Other than that it is ok.

We came here because Woody's was packed and after a day snowboarding we needed food stat. We got our beers pretty fast, but no water was provided. The burger was mediocre at best, but not terrible. The server took my friend's ketchup away before she finished. Overall, stop here if everything else is too packed or closed.

Food so so. The first time i was there it was OK. This time is was not good at all. My wife ordered a buffalo chicken wrap and got a bbq chicken wrap. My burger taste horrible and it was super bloody. My onion rings were burnt. Felt rushed to eat so they could sit another customer. Grabbed my son's plate of apples before he even ate them. The only reason I gave it one star is our server had great customer service. I will not be back.

Overall a decent place to go. Both the Blue Canyon Grill and the Underground bar are beautifully done inside. We've eaten at Blue Canyon a few times. Decent service and okay food. Nothing to write home about but we haven't tried a lot on the menu. I would recommend the Avocado Nachos as we've ordered that on more than one occasion. We have also visited the bar under the restaurant called The Underground. The first time we were here we didn't receive the best service. The bartender would be right in front of us where we stood waiting patiently with our money trying to get her attention and she seemed to do everything she could to avoid eye contact. Finally she served us and did so with a smile. Not sure why we initially received such a stand-offish attitude but it was certainly a turn-off. Since that time our visits here have been short and with groups. The service has been better and the atmosphere is good. A couple pool tables and video games to keep you busy or a few TV's if you're looking for that. They have a full bar and a good selection of beers on tap, plenty of space and seating. Not our favorite place in Golden but definitely worth checking out!

After visiting the Coors Brewery and enjoying 3 generous samples, we walked in downtown Golden in search of sustenance. Blue Canyon looked good, so we walked in and got a table. We were greeted immediately, and ordered pork wings and onion ring appetizers while perusing the rest of the menu. For my meal, I ended up getting the fish tacos. Positives: -Fantastic food, especially for a pub-type of restaurant -Wide selection of beer on tap, including many local Colorado microbrews -Great service - friendly, helpful, and genuine -Some seating outside near the street Negatives: -Definitely a small interior, which I'm sure can be busy and full at times After eating at Stagecoach Bar and Grill in Evergreen the night before (check out my Yelp review!), Blue Canyon was a complete 180 from that disaster. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and knowledgable, and was great. Our food was excellent, prices were decent, and we had a great time. I'd definitely go back again.

The food took forever to get out! And when we did get our food, part of the order was wrong. I read the reviews and went anyway, so my fault entirely. The waitress was pleasant, which saved this review from a 1 star. I had the steak dip, which was overcooked and very salty. Go across the street to woodys!

We came here one night for drinks after dinner. We went to the bar area downstairs. It is a dive bar that seems to get pretty packed after 9ish. There were a few locals at the bar area but the place is filled up with mostly Mines students. There are two pool tables and a ski-ball machine. They had a juke box but Saturday night there was a DJ playing jams from his laptop attached to the sound system. He played a really good mix of music from many genres and eras. I really liked how he played old skool punk rock which is not something most bars play even though they try and play an eclectic mix. The music is pretty loud so it is not the place you want to go if you are trying to hold a lot of conversation. I will come back.

  • Nick M.

Every time I come it it takes an absurd about of time and it's not even busy. I really want to like this place but this is the third strike for the same things each time and it's over the course of a year and a half. The food is good but we waited at least 45 minutes after we ordered. Then waited around to pay the bill. The bartender seems Iike a nice guy, he might be the manager. I think he might spend a little too much time being cool with his staff and doesn't realize he gives the impression of not caring to his customers. Last year there was a bartender that definitely didn't care and he was pretty rude on top of it. He even spent time flirting with my fiance right there at the table. Food is good but unless you have 2 hours to spend at lunch I'd probably recommend going somewhere else. Hell you can get in and out of woody's quicker even when you have to wait 20 minutes just to get in.

If you're looking for an upscale dinner at a top end restaurant this is not where you want to go. However, if you're looking for a good place for lunch or want to get your burger fix on, this IS the place to go. Super burgers with sweet potato fries and nice cold brew is one of my favorite kind of places and this place hit the mark on all accounts. I have no complaints... food - good atmosphere - good (it's a bar) service - good beer selection - good prices - average

I don't give many 1 star ratings but I've been here several times and each time has sadly been worse than the last. First of all. Each one of our 7 meals we ordered was cold by the time it arrived. My daughter's pizza wasn't fully cooked with the cheese on top not even melted. I did return that meal and the waitress kindly apologized and said she'd bring another. The cook ended up just microwaving it and bringing the same dish. I tasted it and it sucked. My wife ordered fish and chips and got chicken fingers. She was hungry enough that by the time the waitress came back she just decided to eat the chicken which was fine. The waitress was very nice and did change the price to reflect the mistake and also removed the pizza charge. In summary, the service was friendly but very slow, the food came out cold and would have been mediocre even if it was fresh. We won't be back.

In the middle of charming downtown Golden, surrounded by many shops and bars and just down the road from the Coors Brewery. It's an excellent place to take a load off of your feet and enjoy a meal. Service was fast and friendly, and the food was really good. I had the nachos (I loved the cheese sauce-- very original taste) and my parents had the burger and they were happy with it. The sweet potato waffle fries were very good. They offer happy hour from 3-7pm with specials that vary. It was very clean, and I liked the ambiance. I would go again and recommend to others.

Sorely disappointing. I have been here before and enjoyed their burgers. Howver, I had the burrito , and it was terrible. Visible chille powder sprinkled on the wrap. I also has their bacon cheeseburger soup. Loaded with salt. Bleh! Continuing the hunt in Golden!

Downtown Golden is such a cool place to take a stroll, and grab a nice bite to eat. Came by Blue Canyon Grill & Underground for lunch, as my colleague had recommended it. Ordered up a bleu canyon burger with sweet potato fries... Nice thick and juicy burger, topped with two thick slices of bacon, and piled with crumbly melted bleu cheese. Cooked to order the way I wanted it. Good stuff! Noticed they had plenty of local beers on tap. It doesn't hurt that the Coors Brewery is just down the block either. Super friendly service too... Totally recommend this place if you are in the area.

Horrible service. Do not eat here. Wait time long. Order was wrong, when we finally got food. Waiter told customer they might won't to leave because they were so slow. Got discount, for food we couldn't eat.

I had high hopes for this place because the atmosphere is great and the server was really nice. Unfortunately the food was not. The avocado nachos were bland at best. I asked for hot sauce and was brought a bottle of Chalula that had nothing in it. The French fries were very greasy and the kids pizza was more grease than cheese. My daughter did enjoy her steak ceaser salad very much. We will probably not be back.

My husband and I were walking around Golden with our dog and were looking to grab a beer. We sat down outside at the Blue Canyon and the waitress let us know that they couldn't serve alcohol outside since it wasn't a closed in outdoor seating area. But the first table inside the restaurant/bar area was available and she said if our dog was well behaved we could sit inside (it is an open air restaurant so it was like being outside). Everyone was really friendly here. The atmosphere was great. We didn't eat here so I can't speak to the food, but it looked/smelled really good. I wasn't even hungry and I was tempted to order French fries.

My wife and I dined there and placed it on our top 20 spots for burgers! Apparently the beef in Colorado benefits from the altitude and attitude of the folks. Golden is a great town, and I'd recommend this restaurant highly.

These three stars aren't bad; I eat here often as a local. But I always order the same Fiesta Salad and my husband almost always orders the steak burrito, because everything else I've had is good, just not quite all the way there and not always consistent. I enjoy the place itself and the fact that there's almost always a place to sit and the beer selection is pretty good. The servers (there seem to be new ones all the time) are always friendly. It's a quick meal when we don't feel like going to Woody's (crowded) or somewhere more expensive. I can recommend the Fiesta Salad, quesadilla (greasy inside but tasty), burrito (yummy cheese sauce) and sometimes the tuna sandwich, if it's not overcooked. The steak dip is good but the jus is waaaaay too salty. If you feel like a steak dip, ask for some hot water on the side to dilute it, because the jus otherwise has a rich flavor. The salsa and chips are excellent, but you must like garlic to tolerate the salsa. Skip the fried pickles, which have too much batter and little flavor (not salty at all). The nachos are underwhelming, even though I love the cheese sauce. And if you're originally from near the border (like I am) you won't recognize the creamy stuff they call tortilla soup. That's pretty much the way it goes. Good food that's sometimes too greasy, too salty or too overdone. But a nice place and we'll keep going back.

This review is for the restaurant, upstairs. NOT for the Underground. I wish I could give this place 2.5 stars. The good: great beer selection (which is a huge plus to me), varied and interesting menu items, decent food. The bad: Poor service, overpriced food. Specifics: I would like to say the wait staff here are hit or miss, but it seems lately they've just been a miss. I've had good service here, but the last few times I've been it's been just plain lazy and sub-par service. The food is decent, but very overpriced for what it is. It's the standard Sysco fare, typical of most bars. They over charge for it, though. Specific complaint with the wait staff: there were four of us a table yesterday for happy hour. Asked to have the check split for each person, with an appetizer split across the table. Ok, now I understand in some systems that might be a total pain in the @ss. That's ok, the waiter should say so, but this guy offered to do it for us. Then he brought the check back. Everything was pooled and divided by 4. This wasn't fair, we all had very different meals and drinks. So, we take it and sort out a shot buying equalization scheme between us. Tell the waiter to bring us a round of shots and only charge it two of us. No problem he says. Brings the check back, again with all items pooled and divided by four, again. I mean... come on! If you can't do what we've asked, just say so, we'll try a different route. Sadly, this type of experience at the Blue Canyon is typical. The wait staff is nice, they're friendly and pleasant, but woefully incompetent.

Ambiance was pretty average, sports bar feel. Friendly waitstaff. Not many healthy or alternative options on the menu, just pretty typical Mex-American food, not really creative. Sweet potato fries were great, but I probably wouldn't come back.

Underwhelming, and expensive. The night we went there, they seemed to be understaffed. We sat down and it took a while to be noticed and served. They were out of kids menus, so we had to choose from the options the bartender gave. I'm glad we only ordered one kids meal, as it was $6. It had three pieces of chicken, a few fries, and a few animal crackers. My husband had the fish and chips. He ended up leaving most of the fish on his plate. My burger was okay, but not great. My side salad came out a bit after my burger, and it was not worth the $2 extra. Our drinks went empty for a long time, and getting our bill and our credit card back took longer than it should, and we could not get the bartender's attention to speed things along. We will not be coming back.

What a severe disappointment. We had been in search of a location to host a party of about 50 people on a Friday night. After emailing the owner without response, we called to inquire about using "The Underground", and was told it would be "way too expensive", which turned out to be $5000 for 3 hours. Ridiculous. I offered to meet her at her bar to talk over some options and see what a busy Friday looks like. At first we were told by the bartender she was in a meeting at 9 at night. Then she introduced herself when I walked by her to go to the restroom "Are you ****? I'm the owner, I'll be right over to talk to you" Well an hour and a beer later, she never got her ass off the bar seat to talk to us. We left, never to return. Apparently she is doing just fine, and doesn't need the business. Rude. Unprofessional. Ridiculous. I think it's sad Golden thinks just because it's small it can settle for mediocrity. Respect your customers.

This is typical all American restaurant with the typical foods you can find anywhere. The atmosphere here is nice, the front doors open completely which give it a nice open feeling. They claim to have the best burger, so I went with the burger. It was ok, nothing to write home about when it really comes down to it. It was cooked how I requested and was exactly what it stated on the menu. There were sweet potato tots, again, sweet. potato. tots on the menu, we didn't get them though, I am kind of regretting this decision now and will be returning based on this alone.

man who doesn't like fried pickles? holy fried pickles. Just wish the size of the place was bigger. Its like the size of every thing in NY. Long and narrow. Food was OK, beer was better. Kids seemed to like it. The owners son is by far the most polite guy in Golden. He really goes out of his way to make sure you know that he is grateful your in there. The staff makes me want to go back.

  • John N.

I wanted to rate this place with 3.5 stars, since it is not outstanding or exceptional but does exactly the job that I wanted from a bar / burger joint. There is not a lot of seating but that was not a problem since we were seated right away, and our server came over within a few minutes. The food was good, like I said not outstanding but everything was cooked the way it should be and tasted pretty good. I had the Ahi sandwich and enjoyed it very much, and the fresh avocado on the nachos which were actually made from fried wantons was actually really tasty too. Like I said the food was exactly what we expected from this type of place. Not the best in town but perfect for what we wanted.

Poor service. Waited for a good 10 minutes without ever being acknowledged with even a "we'll be right with you". Meanwhile, the employees were just standing around talking with each other. We left and went to Indulge Bistro & Wine Bar...much better!

Do not come here for a quick meal. The service is SO slow! After waiting for a waiter to acknowledge us after sitting down outside, we eventually just walked inside to tell them we were out there. We ordered our appetizers, but after 45 minutes we had to go inside yet again to remind them we were waiting. Our appetizers finally came 15 minutes later and our food (very delicious by the way! The ahi tuna sandwich was great) came soon after. I wish the service was better because the food is great! Food was 4 stars, but the service was awful.

My fiancé and I came in to the Blue Canyon last week after a hike. We were seated promptly by a very sweet hostess. Next, we met our server, Kastle, I think, as it says on our receipt. She was fantastic! I worked in a restaurant through college and don't see great service often anymore. She was attentive, kind and timed everything right. We were also impressed with the quality food, amount for price, and cold beer. You guys are doing it right! When we come to Golden next, your restaurant will be a stop. Thanks for having such an all around quality establishment!

Worst food in golden, bad atmosphere, poor service, bartender up charges drinks without asking, horrible DJ. Don't waste your money, this place is terrible. Surprised they haven't gone under yet.

    (1)
  • Kris M.

I admit, I was apprehensive about their move into the old Foss building. Their old place was much smaller, but cozier, and definitely had a certain "cheap college bar" appeal. But now, I'm pretty glad they did move. The new place is, on the whole, much nicer. Really, Blue Canyon is two separate entities - the Grill and the Underground. The Grille, their restaurant upstairs, has a vastly improved menu albeit at the cost of increased prices. While a bit on the high side, the food is delicious, and the stand-outs are the sweet potato fries and sweet potato Tater-Tots(!), which have a delicious coating of what I think is cinnamon and brown sugar. The Underground is spacious, very industrial in appearance - lots of metal and concrete, with some wood and decor to soften it a bit. Rowdier and more of a drinking area, much more designed to be student-friendly than the Grille upstairs. Slightly different menu IIRC focusing on bar food, but you can order from the Grille menu. In all, it's a good change, and the restaurant has really come into its own, but there are definitely some times when I long for the old Blue Canyon and its simplicity.
