After leaving Red Rocks, we were hankering for a night cap with some excellent company - so kudos to Yelp for introducing us to Ace-Hi Tavern! It felt like the perfect local spot, half way between a dive bar and a karaoke club and teaming with friendly faces. If you're ever in the area, I highly suggest making a pit stop to Ace-Hi for a drink (or three) - and tell them Amanda and Danny from LA say hello =)

Recently the boyfriend and I have been exploring new bars around the foothills. Boyfriend read about this place and so we decided to give them a shot. Ace-Hi is SUPER DIVEY. Not that that's a bad thing but it took us by surprise, especially for how expensive their drinks are. Food was fine, nothing spectacular. Decent patio area that would of been enjoyable if not for the chimney of cigarette smoke from the other patrons and insanely loud 80's music being blasted at us intermittently. Staff was very nice. I did like the drinks they made.

Old memories here, in town checking out the river And enjoying cold one, this correctly priced cerveza cold cold and good nice day just bumming, and enjoying the day. This place has great staff and service. Best bar in town .

Owner is a huge bitch and regularly bitches out guests. Avoid this place like the plague. Can I give this place zero stars?

I was here on a Saturday afternoon during Happy Hour. The Ace-Hi Tavern has a great Happy Hour every day between 4 and 7:00 PM - that doesn't exclude weekends like a lot of bars. $1.75 for select pints / $6 for a pitcher. They have a great outdoor seating area right on Washington St. They've posted signs warning that "table service" might be a little hit or miss on the patio and giving you the option of going inside to get your drinks which is what I did. Service inside was extremely prompt and courteous - the ladies at the bar where quite friendly. I was there only for drinks and can't attest to their food offerings. It is, however, a great drink to sit on the patio and to enjoy a beer while watching the sights.

Dive bar with incredibly cold beer and eager friendly bartenders. No frills here, sticky floors, the bar tops have worn marks from years of serving drinks, dimly lit bar, eclectic crowd and enough gaudy crap hanging behind the bar to solidify as Dive Bar for years to come. The outside "patio" is dog friendly- if the pups are leashed and sitting on the outside of the "patio."

I suppose I can't create a list of hotspots for CSM students if I don't include the Ace-Hi. This is some of the cheapest beers you can get around. They have a $10 credit card minimum and some nights I have trouble meeting that. $10 is literally enough for nearly 3 pitchers. The Ace has a nice divey vibe and great people. This is the haunt for locals and college students alike.

Stopped in for a couple of drinks. Lots of bikers but the atmosphere was fun. Everyone was very friendly, especially the bartender who let me spin the birthday wheel and I got a free draft beer! Wooo! Great place for happy hour, didn't look at the menu.

I must say, the Ace-Hi Tavern is a must for any student at the Colorado School of Mines. It's definitely THE place to be on a Thursday night during ladies night (each drink is a $1). You can walk in totally on your own and your almost always guaranteed to know at least 5 people there. That being said, this isn't quite my style of bar and that's the reason it received a rating as a 3 instead of a 5. Dive bars aren't my favorite because they require me to go with a larger group to have a nice time. I'd still recommend the bar to my friends for ladies night :) That aside, the bartenders here are great. They are good with faces, serve quickly, and have a slew of nice drinks. I'd recommend trying a Georgia Peach if you like the girly drinks :). That drink is amazing! I'd belatedly add that this is a another reason that I knocked down the rating of this place. It used to be offered during ladies night, but when they changed ladies night from $0 to $1, that drink came off the menu too. Now I stick to the Chardonnay or Riesling they offer.

This place is a typical local bar, sports on the tv and drinks being poured, locals coming in for the usual drink. As an out of towner I felt a little out of place.

Ah, Ace-Hi. the best description of this place that I can give is this: There is carpet on the walls. Take from that what you will. When I moved to Golden, I was warned against this "local dive bar" with "lots of bikers." I don't know what people were thinking speaking down to this joint. No I wouldn't bring my grandmother here, but I would certainly bring my cool aunt, and I drag my friends here every chance I get. Sure it's dark and a little dirty. Sure I've had more drinks spilled on me here than anywhere else I've ever been. But it's a great crowd, with great attitudes, the bartenders and the woman who floats to the tables are all friendly, the drinks are cheap, and they have Karaoke. The kind of karaoke that isn't so polished and pretentious that you're embarrassed to sign up, but also not the kind that makes you plug your ears and find a new watering hole. Come here if you want to get drunk and have fun. The end.

This place is simply amazing. Cheap beer, good atmosphere. We live in Golden, and this is our corner bar. As much as any could be. Why does the 50 something barmaid with the big fake hooters have to be so unkind to everyone? I've left a few nights because she has a really poopy attitude. I get it, princess. You're the all knowing, big bad bartender. Really? Other than THAT, this is an amazing place. SUPER cheap drinks. Lots of college kiddos, but everyone is welcome. Give it a try!

Awesome semi "Dive Bar" in Downtown Golden! Great service/ Locals/ $1.50 pulls of Coors? All you need to know baby...Get Dat Did

Booster Shots....check. Gallon of Purell....check. Stomach of Steel....check. You're ready for this place. A true dive but with a surprisingly sophisticated beer selection. Yes, the restrooms are pretty foul, but you've already been warned, right? Your drink garnish may have come off the floor, but the booze will kill whatever was on it. The Tombstones are hot, the darts are real, the patrons are fuzzy, and the service is quick and friendly. Always have had a fantastic laid-back night here and I'd be tempted to come back to drink all day...after I finish my Hep-B series. Cheers

There was a two hour wait for the Coors Brewery so we decided against it. Jumped on Yelp and decided to check this place out according to the high reviews. We parked in the rear lot and went in the back door. I felt like I should have had a quick hand on my side arm walking down the sketchy ally to the back door but once I confirmed that it was in fact legit, we went inside. The bathrooms were a little grimy and too cozy for comfort, but what can you expect from a place of the sort? Had a seat and was greeted appropriately. Good prices on the Coors and had a shot of tequila with training wheels. Overall a nice cozy, intimate feel in this place. I'd definitely return.

Great bar. Everyone calls it a dive.. I didn't really get that so much. They let us bring pizza in from down the block. Cheap as all get out for happy hour.

This is a fun little local bar in Golden! If you're looking for a place to have a cheap drink or two this is it. Also if you're looking for late night fun in Golden this is one of your only options and in my opinion the best one! There are a lot of regulars along with a varied crowd of all ages. I notice a lot of places in Golden treat their regulars with much better treatment than other customers. We have lived in town over a year but just because we don't frequent a place we tend to get snotty service. Not here. We really appreciate that every staff member we have encountered here is nice and friendly. If the bar isn't packed the bartender will even come to your table to refill your drinks in a timely and attentive manner! Their drink specials are cheap and fun! Like the fact that ladies drink free from 9 pm-midnight on Wednesday and Thursday nights. There is always karoke on Fridays and Saturdays which can be a really great way to end a fun night with friends, we've done it on many occasions! They have a jukebox for the nights there are no karoke, good sized and placed TV's for watching the game, and a pool table. They used to have Ski Ball and we miss that so much! Where did it go? A full bar and a limited but okay selection of beers on tap make it easy for everyone to find something they like. I believe they even serve toaster oven pizzas if you're hungry. They last time we were there they had just added this beautiful area to sit outdoors along Washington but be aware it isn't dog friendly or for smokers. Just a nice patio area to enjoy your drinks outdoors.

Horrible service (think Cindy was her name)...place was dirty, and took at least 15 minutes to get a beer and wine...and it wasn't even busy. New to the area, and will not be returning.

Good for ladies night and if you're looking for a friendly dive bar. Thursday nights are poppin.

I am a fan, but then again, I am a sucker for drinking for cheap in a fun atmosphere. The reason we came here is because of the huge sign for $1.50 drafts and $5.50 pitchers 7 days a week until 7pm. NICE! Our server was nice and attentive, which you sometimes miss out on when you're at a bar like this. I couldn't help but notice girls drink free from 9-12pm on Wednesday and Thursdays. Too bad I don't live here. There are regular cash prize beer long tournaments, pool, and a jukebox. Overall, an amazing dive bar with good prices. The good: prices, service, big TV, cleanliness, and overall atmosphere. The bad: didn't seem like there was food available, old man playing sappy tunes on the jukebox, and not the best selection of beer (this is the only reason I didn't give it five stars) I would love to have a place like this where I go to school.

    (4)
  • Kandice J.

I love this place! The girls behind the bar are awesome!! Great place for a good time!

  • Aditi A.

This is the definition of dive bar. But I'm young-hip-and-alive still, right?!?! I popped in thirsty this past Thursday night and left more than satisfied from "Ladies" night at Ace Hi. $1 well drinks, cab, rose, Chardonnay, Coors, Coors light, bud, bud light, pbr and select shots. Great tunes to boot. Heyooooo!

  • Princess E.

This is good old fashioned town tavern....stocked with salty old locals and young drunks too. The prices are great, atmosphere great.BUT the bartender just sucks...its like because she isnt pretty she has to be an asshole...like tough or something....I feel sad for her...

  • Natasha A.

Its just a simple dive bar. A few regulars, and then pretty much all mines students (who recently turned 21) on ladies night. The music is very random, and sometimes it stops out of nowhere. With a few booths and bar seats, the place is very narrow, and it can get way crowded and loud on a thursday night. Its not awful but its also nothing special. You can find some cheap beer specials but most of the mixed drinks are weak. Staff is usually friendly but some of them do have a bit of an attitude issue sometimes.

    (3)
  • Mike B.

From 21 to 81 this is truly a mixed crowd of locals and college students. However it's a blast. I went to rock karaoke night And won myself a picture of beer with my super singing voice. Which makes the DJ aces in my book. Bartenders are very friendly the customers are very friendly the staff is very patient with some of the inebriated patrons. Everytime I go over its a good time. I hope you experience the same. Keep calm and chive on

This place is Aces! Good music on the jukebox. Four stars for a good dive bar so you'd have to like that atmosphere like I do. It's all you'd hope for when your standards are low. Take your pick between plush, almost old school fifties diner style seating or on one of the bar stools sitting in front of a traditional wooden bartop. Friendly service compliments this place and makes it a favorite among locals as I found out after talking with them. No doubt the place is set to get away from tourism folk and is tucked off to the side of one of the busiest areas in Golden, CO. Recommended for a good time!

We were meeting some friends for lunch at Woody's across the street and had arrived a half an hour too early. "Oh no!", we thought, "What ever will we do with ourselves?!?". So we Yelped up the nearest watering hole and Ace Hi was clearly the spot. We figured it was Saturday around noon, so Bloody Marys were probably in order. We sidled up to the bar and ordered two. The place is rather narrow and long - typical of old western town construction, and hosted a bevy of local regulars - a few of them clearly well on their way to Tipsyville. A delightful gal brought us our libations. Delicious. One of the better Bloody's I've had in a while. Within moments, a friendly banter was struck up between us and a couple of old timers. Good times. Ok, this is not meant to be a story... Good drinks, gracious people, great prices. This tavern is Aces!

This is a classic example of a proper establishment. Old, dated and a little rough around the edges, yet very clean and maintained.

  • Uriel A.

I have all my teeth and I don't live in a dumpster, this place is not for me. If you are coming off of a weeklong meth bender this might just be your place. It smells like piss and the staff looks like something off of squidbillies. I'm going to take a picture of the men's restroom and post it so you can see. Seriously, you could get crabs from the toilets.

Although I've never actually been here, I wanted to surprise my brother who lives in Golden for his birthday by paying for his tab at Ace Hi since it's his favorite bar. It was an odd request, but Jody the bartender helped me out and when I told her what I wanted to do, her response was "Heck yeah! Let's get your brother some birthday beer." My brother was SO happy with the surprise and I can't wait to try the fireball shot when I visit him!

Great dive bar with a plethora of games. Everything from darts, to pool to big buck hunter. They have two happy hours: from 7 am to 11 am (for those who are truly committed to being wasted all day) and 3 to 7. Solid deal of $5 domestic pitchers and $1.25 pints. Microbrew pitchers are $9, but that is still a hell of a deal. Music is bizarre and completely random. In the hour I was there I was treated to the musical stylings of Lady Gaga, Jack Johnson, ZZ Top and Taylor Swift.

Good little dive bar. Wide range of patrons and always someone drinking at the bar from early morning to close. A true taste of the local Golden culture and a historic feel. Cheap drinks and attentive service. Thursday nights are the busiest for the college and younger locals crowd, weekends are moderately busy with a local middle aged crowd, and weekdays/happy hours are quieter with mainly regulars.

    (4)
  • David M.

I live in Littleton but make it to Ace-Hi at least twice a month for their happy hour... 1.25 Killians Red on draught! The locals hand out here to catch up on life and watch whatever Colorado sports is on TV!

  • Bryan Y.

At first when we came, I thought I had just stepped into a bar at a bowling alley. Of course, it's a dive bar, so the vibe is a lot different from your lounge/fist pumping crowd similar to the jersey shore. The drinks were cheap and everyone in there was super friendly, so I can't complain. They have karaoke on Saturday nights and the 4 of us attempted to belch Bon Jovi's Livin on a Prayer at the top of our lungs! We bought so much booze that we couldn't really finish it either. Good times!

    (5)
  • Kris M.

Oh, Ace. Great place for midnight shots on your 21st. Cheap beer when all you want to do is drink away the sorrows of a long day. Random music from all over the spectrum. Bartenders you can get familiar with and a bar crowd that never really seems to go away, even on the nights when students nearly take the place over. I've had some good times at the Ace, some not so good times, and a few "what the hell just happened? times. The Ace is a place where memories are made - if you're not there to forget, that is.

    (5)
  • Lou C.

Best bar in Golden I've experienced. Friendly people, friendly bartenders. Happy hour 3pm-7pm seven days a week $1.50 pints and $5.50 pitchers for PBR and a few others in that roster (hey-yo!) Comically they even have morning special for these prices as well from 7am-11am. Glad I went, look forward to going again.

Quickly becoming my dive favorite (along with Buffalo Rose) on my treks to Golden! Good drink deals and a VERY tasty Caucasian.

Don't go into the Ace expecting an ultra-trendy bar complemented by delicious appetizers: the extent of their menu consists of hot dogs and frozen pizzas for those who have the extreme drunken-munchies and can't seem to stumble their way to Burger King. However, the Ace is very good at what it does: providing cheap drinks and friendly bartenders to college students, Coors employees, and those just passing though Golden alike. Perhaps I've lived in Golden too long, but the Ace has grown on me in a major way. It might be the old beer-soaked carpet smell, or the friendly staff, or the fact that I had my very first drink as a 21-year-old here (Cement Mixers, try one tonight Yelpers!!!). Oh, and two words: Ladies'. Night. Wednesday and Thursday nights (9 pm - 12 am) always prove to be a good time, but don't go just expecting to have "one" drink; it always turns into a contest to see who can wade through the sea of people to get the most free drinks before midnight.

Dear Ace-Hi Tavern, I had fun at yours last night. It was buzzing with people and I liked that ladies (or sluts and whores as your charming bar tender put it) drank free and pitchers of beer were 4 dollars. I had never played beer pong before. Thank you for introducing this great American sport to me - my American experience is now nearly complete(minus American footie and a bbq), although I must say I do not like the super competitive folk we had on our second game. This however is not your fault so I cannot hold this against you. Your shot ski was deadly in the way shot skis really should. The group of gentlemen in bathrobes and shower caps were quite entertaining and we talked to a lot of friendly (if not too intoxicated) people. I wish you had more rest rooms though dearest Ace- Hi, as our bladders are not what they used to be, and your beer is ... well plentiful to put it that way. Dearest Ace-HI thank you for one of the funnest nights I have had here so far. However, I do have a return to make: my hangover.

  • Melissa H.

My husband and I went to Ace Hi Friday night because he had been there once before and had told me that I would love it. I think I died and went to dive bar heaven because Ace Hi delivered! It had all the elements that make a great dive bar - mixed clientele, a TV that had baseball on for the sports lovers, TVs with a random movie (Saving Private Ryan on Friday night) that seems a bit out of place, a jukebox with killer music, cheap drinks, and a friendly staff. We chatted during the night with some of the people sitting at the bar, and rocked out to the tunes from the jukebox. This is a no-nonsense bar and just has a great vibe to it. Plus any place with a Dale Jr clock and horns mounted behind the bar has to be worth checking out!

    (5)
  • Kent K.

An institution. Cleaner than it was 20+ years ago but still divey enough. But, then, how divey can it be if they have a single malt Scotch? Thank goodness for single malt Scotch!

    (5)
  • Tim S.

Nothing fancy. Just a good simple bar. Realistic drink prices, friendly service and diverse crowd. Always meet someone different and interesting when I stop in.

    (4)
  • Lane C.

Local dive bar, but with nice Tv's and Billiards. Great deals on drinks and they accept the golden tickets you get from visiting the Coors brewery.

    (4)
  • Jordan A.

I give it five stars only because I recognize it for what it is--a total dive. The Ace's usual crowd is the most unlikely mix of tough-looking bikers and geeky Mines students. I celebrated my 21st birthday there a million years ago. We lived within walking distance, and I don't remember getting home... I was still drunk when I showed up for classes the next morning. They also used to have some kinda crazy-cheap pitchers of Budweiser beer if one had a Mines ID. I am too snotty and sober to go anywhere near the Ace these days (or the last 15 years), but I still get all nostalgic and sentimental every time I see it.

    (5)
  • Emily P.

A Golden classic, gotta' love Thursday ladies' night. They have pool tables, great drink specials and a generally laid-back crowd.

    (5)
  • Mark B.

The Ace-Hi Tavern is a Golden gem and every small town should have one like it. The smoke smell is starting to go away they have a friendly staff cheap drinks and a good juke box.

    (4)
  • Tim S.

If you ever come to Golden, this place is a must see!!! Dive bar all the way. They have beer pong tournaments for the Mines students, a pool table, pinball...and a Nascar pool. This place even opens at 7am so if you ever feel the alcoholic need for a beer that early, this is the place to go.

    (4)
  • Misty M.

This place is good for the LOLZ. It still smells like smoke so I don't go there anymore, but I think its like that dive bar from movies.

    (4)
  • Becky S.

The Ace is hands-down the best dive bar ever. The place still smells like stale smoke, six months after Colorado banned smoking in bars. The people there are fun to watch, and they're easy to get along with. The bartenders are prompt, personable, and fun to chat with. Their happy hour specials can't be beat, and their normal prices are pretty good too. There's pool and arcade games, and of course a jukebox. Be careful what you play on the jukebox, though, the locals can get rowdy when their favorite songs get played!
