Awesome pizza, staff, porch, and beer. Who would have thought there'd be such an exceedingly cool place out here in the slope's hinterlands? Pizza was beyond perfect. This is The Pizza Of The Gods. Got a little crowded around noon, but that's to be expected. The Sicilian pizza is a lot of bread, that's my only cautionary tale. If you dig really good high quality bread-like crust then this is the deal for you. If you're a fan of less crust and lots of sauce - go for a thin crust. Regardless; they're both damn good. Nice place to get comfortable and forget how long you were supposed to stay.

Great pizza by the slice. Had the Pesto slice and a side salad. The pizza was tasty and had a lovely crisp crust (crisp without being burnt is a rare comodity with pizza and this is the real deal). The 'side' salad was as not really 'side', more like 'full on'. Lovely romaine (not an iceberg in sight) with plenty of cherry tomatoes, cucumber, mushrooms, red onions and olives. Seriously, other restaurants should take note! The New Belgium on tap is just the icing on the cake.

Delish pizza. Fresh ingredients, tasty house made crust. My husband and I are definitely wood-fired pizza "snobs", but decided to give this place a try based on reviews. We were not disappointed. Wine choices limited and a little high priced for the quality and size of pours. The atmosphere is a little different, but lively. Overall a fun, tasty experience.

If you're ever in Fruita, I hope this wonderful, bicycle themed downtown restaurant is serving their Peach pizza: bleu cheese, Palisade peaches grown a couple cities over, and Canadian bacon. Whoever came up with that combo of sweet and savory is a genius.

This is a must if you're visiting Fruita. The pizza is delicious, they have several great beers on tap, and the chicken avocado salad with their homemade balsamic is one of the best salads I've ever had. Try the Thai Me Up pizza for something different!

We were sent here on a tip and we are glad we came. We had the Stromboli slice which was decadent and delicious. We then ordered the Icarus pizza. I'm a stickler and pizza and it annoys me when the middle of the pizza is soggy. I am unsure what happened there, but you had to use a knife and fork for the bottom half of the pizza slice. Once past that, you could pick it up and enjoy it. The crust redeemed the soggy start because it is fantastic. And the marinara sauce was so good. We have decided the pizza is great, but too many toppings take it too far. We will definitely be back for a more simpler pizza. Being a CSU ram, love the NBB on tap. Great restaurant overall.

Awesome food, nice patio, relaxed atmosphere. This was a nice place to stop for fresh food and they offer local brews and wine! They also welcomed my (well behaved) dog to sit on the patio with us- which was very nice.

Went for the first time based on two recommendations. As a pizza snob from Brooklyn the true test of great pizza is a slice of cheese. Well they passed the test. Great crust and sauce. Had a big salad which was also very good. Service very friendly and quick. Hope to go back on next trip to this area

Can I just say AMAZING!!!! Love the atmosphere and the beer. But lets not leave out the pizza, which is to die for. We had Arron, helping us out as our server/bar tender. Can I just say I don't know if they have VIP but we had the VIP experience. Thank you so much, I will definitely be recommending you guys over and over again.

Awesome food and service! We had the Badabing. Outstanding! It was a great lunch after a fun morning of riding.

We've eaten in and carried out. The food quality is great either way. Hot Tomato is not a franchise. Ambiance is casual/ rustic. The menu includes salads, pizza, Stromboli and calzones. Everything is made in the restaurant. There is patio dining when weather permits.

We were passing through Fruita on our way to Denver and Yelped a restaurant. This one came up with good reviews. When we entered the place was busy! We sat down at a table that was recently vacated but not cleaned. An employee came over quickly and cleaned the table. We ordered the Granny's pesto. The portions were huge!!! The taste was delicious. even though our 2 young sons ruined the experience with their behavior I would definitely recommend this place.

Excellent! The pizza was so fantastic, it made me realize that I have not had good pizza since I left Colorado (living in Tahoe and Park City). BTW-I grew up in Chicago. 'Nuff said. Both the cheese and Granny's pesto were superb. Greek salad was fresh and large. We arrived 15 minutes before closing and the staff was very generous and not impatient.

Checked out the website, stood in the line to order, friends ordered first and then found out they are out of gluten free crust. When I suggested for others they put that on their board so people could avoid our situation of now trying to find somewhere else to eat the girl looked at me like it was the silliest thing she'd heard. Perhaps she's never had to deal with this type of situation, but some decency would be to have some sympathy and want to avoid your customers hassle. It wasn't like they were out of a topping and we could choose something else. Pretty disappointed.

Love this pizza!!! Having just spent three months in NYC, I can say this pizza is delicious!!! Crispy crust, tangy sauce, mozzarella cheese that stretches and the perfect amount of toppings. Service is great. Not too noisy. And good beer on tap. Don't miss this desert gem. The Hot Tomato is the apple of my Fruita eye.

We were in town with friends. We heard about this place and tried to eat here. Sunday and Monday they are close. Thankfully, we were able to eat there on Tuesday night. You walk up and order and they bring you the food. They have build your own or some of their own pizzas. We ordered the meaty boy & Mary's Margherita with pepperoni pizza. We also ordered a Greek Salad. It was large enough for four people. There is more seating outside than inside. Overall a decent pizza experience. Reasonable price. They also have beer and wine. It is just off the main down town street.

A bikers delight! Recommended to us on the Kokopelli trails and we went back twice. Casual atmosphere so you can go straight after riding. Giant pizzas with that mid-thickness crust that can hold some serious toppings and make for the best best leftovers, so I recommend going up a size. Order Tip: We had this amazing pizza, that won't be on the menu, but it posted at the order counter, so make sure to check out what's on special too! Oh, and they carry this limited release beer that rotates, so if you're into beer, check up on that too. :)

From the minute we arrived (we thought we'd get there early, as it was Friday night, but the place was packed!), we were treated incredibly well. Greeted by Matt.. Immediately saw friends from home (fun!), and went to the counter to order. The young woman was terrific, and very helpful. We were very lucky and found a table. While seated and waiting for our Stinky Deluxe pizza and Sedona salad, Matt dropped by to see how we were doing a couple of times, as well and the bartender and another server. They sincerely cared that we enjoyed ourselves! Awesome service and amazing food. The vibe is easy and fun, and made us feel at home! This was worth breaking my diet for..and boy, did I break it!!!

Post ride pizza good! We got the stinky *something-er-other* with feta, sausage, and jalapenos. Yummers! Affordable, fast, and convenient for getting some great food and beer after a long day of riding at 18 road.

Simply THE BEST PIZZA in the valley, if not all of Colorado. The Granny's Pesto is always my go-to but the salads are equally as delicious and although they may seem pricey, trust me, they are huge. If they have the sausage rolls DO NOT pass those things up and the stromboli is in a class of it's own (my boyfriend practically goes to some sort of heaven when he eats them). Jen and Anne, the owners, could not be nicer people and their staff is always friendly and accommodating. No, they don't have Bud or Coors Light or whatever other crappy beer you like to drink, because the craft beer they serve is 1000x better than that. You wouldn't drink cheap wine with a $40 steak would you? Get their amazing, hand-crafted pizza with an equally high-quality brew to go with it. They are usually always busy, but it never affects the prompt service. When you see that line out the door just be patient and stand there for a few minutes because this food is SO worth it.

Best Pizza in the Grand Junction area, its located in Fruita Colorado. The owners are from New Jersey. So that means they have some Pizza expertise. . I'm from N.Y.C so I'm a Pizza snob..it's always good and Hot..

Great little place. Fun vibe and super nice staff. Rolled in for one night and this place was recommended. Had a pesto slice which was delicious, and a Stromboli slice, which was a little sinful, but yummy! Plus a whole line of New Belgium beers on tap. Good times!

Superb pizza. Very artisan taste. Great place to eat at after a few trails. I crossed paths with one of the employees while riding earlier in the day. I love how everything in Frutia revolves around mountain biking!

My son has food allergies so we have to be careful at restaurants which, unfortunately, makes more work for the wait staff. Everyone at the Hot Tomato was so helpful checking ingredients and bringing out items so we could check ourselves. They didn't seem put out at all. We really appreciated their kindness and professionalism. And the food was delicious!

Excellent super good pizza and loved the Snapshot wheat beer. Our pizza had a superb white sauce on it with gorgonzola, sun dried tomatoes, artichoke, came to the table nice and hot, gobbled it down, people are nice, service was fast, wasn't very busy after 8 pm when we went but they do close at 9. Love the place, wish there was a Hot Tomato Cafe in Estes Park, CO where I live! Thanks you guys for the wonderful pizza.

Delicious pizza! I love the thin crust and the creative toppings. There's something for everyone. I ordered one with jalapeños... Don't expect mild heat. The peppers had some major heat and I loved it. The employees seemed to be having a great time even though it was busy. I never had to wait too long if I needed a refill. The bugs were annoying but the total pizza experience more than made up for that. I wish it was a local spot in my own town!

Count me a fan. This restaurant deserves all the praise that it has been given. The staff was super cool and chill. I had the stromboli and a garden salad. The stromboli was delicious but it was a little cold. The garden salad was good, but it was piled quite high in the bowl with the dressing on the side, so tossing it could create quite a mess. But the vibe is excellent. And a great stop after driving through the Colorado National Monument Park.

I love this place!!!! The pizza and salads are amazing. They have creative combinations that are incredibly tasty. They also have a great selection of beer. The atmosphere is super fun-plenty of seating both inside and outside. I love the outdoor patio area. The whole place is very relaxed and welcoming. The staff was wonderful and helpful. Definitely making a trip back to Fruita, even if it's just to stop here!! Thanks so much Hot Tomato!! I love my hat and I can't wait to come back to visit! :)

Peanut Allergy Alert! They offer a thai style pizza with a peanut sauce. Proceed with caution! However, they were VERY accommodating in offering to clean work surfaces and take other safety precautions. We eventually worked out that ordering slices would be safe for B. since they used different ovens for warming and had not made a by-the-slice thai pizza. He did not have a reaction, so we were able to enjoy lunch in comfort. And lunch was amazing! The crust popped right up into my top three favorites (sorry, Apiezza.) The pizza was a little on the greasy side, but oh so good. The slices were huge, one was enough for a meal, and we split a third slice of cheese because we were greedy. B. got a slice of the cheese (basic perfection doesn't need any additions, he say) and I got the Granny Pesto because I have a weakness for pesto and it looked SO good. And it was. The place was dinerish, order and then seat yourself. They had a porch if you wanted to dine outside, and then even more seating behind the building in a garden-like setting. The bathrooms can be reached by going outside on the porch. There was some sort of weird suction thing going on with the doors. The front door kept opening on its own and then shutting whenever somebody opened the porch door! The place was recommended to us by Cherry up at the National Monument visitor's center, and was easy to get to from there. It's about 4 hours from home, so I'm not sure we can get back anytime soon, but I will be dreaming about that crust!

Best pizza in Mesa County, great fun atmosphere, amazing pizza choices and good for families. Stop by for pizza slices too! We love the team there, they are always fast, funny and friendly! Keep up the great work!

Really great pizza. Best the western slope has to offer. Staff are friendly and helpful. Only issue was small but they sell ice tea and only have sugar to offer as a sweetener. Maybe sweet and low or Splenda would work? Great place

Four of us ordered 2 large pizza's and thought we had gone overboard but they were so good that there was not a crumb left. We had the Meaty boy which definitely lived up to its name and was extremely good. We also had the Badabing which was amazing and the guy in our group that wanted the Meaty Boy claimed it was even better. In fact it was so good that we came back after our mountain biking trip with Hermosa Tours on Sunday but they were unfortunately closed, we were all very bumbed.

One of the best pizza places ever with casual local ambience. This is the place where mountain bikers, musicians, bankers and business owners are hanging out, enjoying great pizza and beer.

Chill, informal, yummy locally sourced for some key items (sausage and bacon). Love the sundried tomato calzone and antipasti salad. Nice backyard seating for bigger groups. Indoor music set to appeal to a youngish set.

Best pizza in the Grand Junction area! The extra 10-15 minute drive, if you are in GJ, definitely worth it. This place is a popular stop for locals an tourists alike. It is a tradition for many mountain and road bikers to stop after a ride. Seating is limited, but you can't beat sitting in the outdoor space drinking a local beer and pizza. Their unique specialty pizzas are amazing. My mouth is watering just writing this review!

Awesome place for this tiny town. It's hard to come across a specialty pizza parlor. I'm not even a pizza lover, but when it comes to this place, I actually crave it. The fig one especially.

Best pizza around! Ingredients are always fresh both pizza and the beautiful salads! Hot tomato always has friendly service and a fun atmosphere. Prices are a little more than other places, but you won't be disappointed!

Someone told me this was the best pizza in the area....and they were right! We lounged on the patio, enjoying the fresh Autumn air, sipped beers, and enjoyed this mouth-watering pizza. Lots of toppings and selections to choose from, as well as a good selection of beers. The next time you are in Fruita, stop in!

    (4)
  • Jamie W.

Definitely THE place in Fruita. The pizza's at Hot Tomato Cafe are excellent. The beer selection is pretty poor, unless you like dark beers. How about throughing in a pilsner? There are so many good beers out there that aren't a dark wheat microbrew from Colorado.

    (4)
  • Candice C.

They offer dairy and meat free on all their pizzas (whole pies, not slices). We split a slice of the pesto one- awesome! We also got the Thai pizza (sans chicken). They said it was made with peanut sauce- could've used more peanuts and spice. Decent flavor but not as spicy as I would expect a Thai pizza to be. The crust was great! Full New Belgium line up. Lots of patio seating!

  • Minny R.

An amazing pizza shop. -Artsy, cozy, Coloradoey ambiance. :) -They're very pro-cycling! -Calzones -Buy a pie or pizza by the slice. -Excellent microbrews. -Good positive friendly workers.

After my very first bike ride ever, which happened to be in Fruita, we stopped by the Hot Tomato Cafe (based on a raving review from a co-worker who is an avid biker). My boyfriend ordered a calzone and I ordered a slice of pizza with pepperoni and sun-dried tomatoes. Oh. My. God. It was phenomenal! We were staying at a hotel in Palisade, and anticipated getting hungry later in the evening. We ordered two slices to go and ate them after consuming quite a bit of local wine. But I digress.... back to the Hot Tomato Cafe... The place is definitely a local hot spot. The pizza crust was perfectly crisp and the topping to cheese to sauce ratio was absolutely perfect. The beer selection was also superb. After my first bike ride, I must admit I was quite exhausted. And it only took one beer to knock me on my tush. We tried to go the next day (Sunday) after our second bike ride, but they were closed. :( Oh well, we will definitely make a special trip through Fruita on our next trip out west to have a slice of Hot Tomato PIZZA!

    (5)
  • Ross H.

Hard to knock this place for the food, it was great. But they are really not customer oriented. Colorado allows unfinished wine to be taken with you, they don't allow it though. Ice was not available but they had a sign saaying sorry, they were out. No Amex which is absolutely their right, but not a way to get me to spend my expense account there. Patio was the only place to eat which was OK, the temp was 57 degrees. But guess what, the patio heater was also broken. It too had a sign saying sorry. So if you are a hipster who only drinks microbrews, you are likely to be happy.

Hubs and I were staying at the State Park campground looking for a place to eat in Fruita. Thanks to Yelp we found this terrific pizza restaurant. We ordered a Granny's which had a spectacular flavor of basil pesto, cheeses, and more, along with two dinner salads (they were BIG, folks, and so fresh). We really were amazed at this delicious pizza. I can't say I've ever had better. And the service is just great -- I felt right at home. Try this place. We'll surely be back.

  • Kerrie F.

We have ordered the Icarus three times for pick up and after the first time they burned it...we asked the next two times to not have a Burned Crust! Even came in earlier than time estimated to get the pizza out of the oven earlier so wouldn't be burned but already there was a pizza ready and waiting it was slightly cold and burned again! Couldn't stand the heat and noise to stock around for another attempt. To pick up a pizza you have to go through a super long line in a hot sticky room with flies, in fact the flies outnumber the people in the restaurant that's why we've stopped eating in and bringing it home. For the quality we get the price isn't justified - they are way overpriced and so disappointing for a small town that so little to offer it's residents. Every once a while we consider trying them again but they're usually closed Sunday Monday-in a town that wants to have tourism? I have tried e-mailing them to have the interaction and problems resolved but never get a response. Such a disappointment.

Amazingly good pizza! I cannot recommend this place highly enough. So many options to choose from. I've had several of their pizzas over the last 4 months and have loved them all. What's even better is the laid-back, artsy ambiance of this tiny restaurant. The servers are very helpful and friendly. If any of them pass by your table and notice a dish ready to be cleared, they grab it. It is always packed in the evening. You stand in line, order your food and alcohol at the counter, go over to the bar and pick up your drink, then they bring you your pizza at your table if you are lucky enough to get a table. I especially recommend the "Stinky Deluxe" or the "Icarus" pizzas. You have to try them both.....delish! As for non-pizza options, their Greek Salad is fantastic, excellent dressing, and it's huge. Could easily supply 3-4 people with salad prior to getting your pizza. Totally worth the drive into Fruita from Grand Junction. Will be fun to be there in the summer and enjoy the outdoor space.

  • R. A.

This place is well on its way to becoming a Fruita staple! The atmosphere is a breath of fresh air on the town's main street and celebrates the mountain biking culture of the area in a cool way. To match is the great food and service. Everything I've tried offers noticeably fresh ingredients, well paired flavors, all cooked to order and served hot by a smiling employee. I'm finding myself craving their pizza often!! It's worth the wait for a table (it's a deservingly busy place, and even with a lot of great indoor and outdoor seating, it manages to fill up) as well as the slightly pricy menu.

  • Mike B.

LOVE Hot Tomato! The pizza is flat-out amazing and the place is just plain cool. They have a ton of specialty pies and while I haven't tried them all I can can vouch that they are all most likely amazing. The dough they use is delicious, the ingredients are fresh, and they have a "frequent buyer" card. Even a simple pepperoni pizza will leave you impressed.

I.Love.Hot.Pie. This place sells what dreams are made of; frothy/delicious beer, exquisite strombolis, and some of the best pie I've ever had. When I stumbled upon this place for lunch one day, I ended up staying for hours chatting with the owners & employees, eating a slice of Granny's Pesto (MY FAVORITE!!!) and sampling the largest selection of New Belgium beers Colorado has to offer (other than the Brewery of course). I was also told that the brewery offers the Hot Tomato beers that they won't give to anyone else. Awesome. It's a great place for a quick bite, a slow bite, a chit chat and maybe a couple more bites. It makes me happy to find a place where the owners and employees are as in love with the food they serve, as those who make their pilgrimage to the mighty pie! Must have slices: Granny's Pesto, Stromboli, and the Sicillian. Oh wait... I think that was everything. You can put on any toppings you care to and BAMB, get your sizable slice of love. Don't forget your Two Punch Tuesdays on your slice card!

  • Johnny B.

I really liked many things about the Hot Tomato. They have all been said numerous times. The things I didn't like at this progressive appearing restaurant are; They serve your beer in a plastic cup! Why not glass and hire a dishwasher? They give you plastic forks and spoons! That's Taco Bell mentality! Hire a dishwasher. It sucks to eat with throw away plastic. What are owners thinking that would do this? Do I want to meet these people. Are they just in it for the money? Don't they see their bags of crap going to the landfill everyday? We can do better than that. Doesn't anybody else complain? All 3 of us thought the pizza was ok. Much better pizza to be had at the COLORADO BOY breweries. Waitress was great! Ambience was great! Crowd was great! Etc.etc.

  • ben m.

So good. The pizza is creative and just plain good. Their dough is awesome, thin and tasty. Didn't get Stromboli this trip but that's super good too. Live music in the back, friendly staff, only minor drawback is they are closed Sunday and Monday. But I guess you have to get some riding in, right!

Didn't expect such FANTASTIC pizza out in the middle of nowhere... but man was it good! We had the Palisades Peach and the Thai Chicken... both were phenomenal! Palisades Peach came with grilled peaches, canadian bacon, gorgonzola, and rosemary. It was SO SO SO SO delicious... I wish I could order it online. Thai Chicken was also very good and had a nice spicy kick. Service was also great. If you are passing through this area, stop and eat here!

Great dough and sauce! My wife had the gluten free and even that was good. The chicken on hers was way over cooked though. But again, the dough is fantastic.

Went back this last week, twice. Really good service with the girl in the glasses up front. Very friendly and helpful! We ordered multiple pizzas both times with salads and beers. The pizza is really good and has plenty of toppings, plus they had some really good chicken this time. I'm ready for another week of riding in Fruita/Moab/GR and some more HT pie.

A cute local joint (don't misconstrue for podunk!) that serves fairly typical pizza-salad-sandwich goodies in downtown Fruita, Colorado. Went here after a nice ride through the Fruita trails with my much-more-expert mountain biking brother and loved almost everything about it. To wit: Cool owners that fought to keep the place going (apparently there was a lot of controversy with the place but I don't know much more than that. You'll have to read the postings on the walls.) Self-serve drink station (critical for those that just came off the desert trails Excellent Stromboli with a good amount of meats Bountiful salads Bright, casual dining room BOTTOM LINE: Local owners, carefully prepared dishes, and sunny environment make this really great option for all, including those that didn't just dismount knobby wheeled transportation.

  • Tom A.

We got the Granny's Pesto and a Greek Salad -- twice in two days. It was exceedingly excellent. Better than anything I can buy in Chicago, though not as good as homemade. Salad was made with "real" veggies, fresh and not generic, ie real tomatoes not pointless pale red tasteless -- of course we were there at the peak of tomato season. Everyone friendly. There's a lot (too much) of meat on the menu. The beer, which we didn't have, is limited to one brewer, probably cus they payed for the tap.

Love it! Excellent thin pizzas and great antipasto salad. Big variety of pizzas and good selection of large, fresh salads. Nice local vibe with indoor or outdoor dining and friendly customer oriented staff. Gotta check this place out while in town.

Sure they have GF, but it doesn't do any good since the smallest size is a14"!!! Not many people have someone in their group to share a 14" with. Would it kill them to offer an 8" or 10"??? Or offer it by the slice?? Everyone else in my group ordered a slice or mini-Stromboli that is offered pre-made. So once again, I felt ostracized being at a pizza place and not being able to order a pizza. With the 500 or so people that came through in the 2 hours we were there, they certainly could have offered the GF pizza by the slice (like they offer for wheat crust!). I had been dying to try their pizza for years, and was so disappointed that they advertised GF so heavily, but aren't truly committed to it. I bet so many people go in there hoping to get the GF pizza, and end up with a salad. They said to just take the leftovers home, but we were on the road and had nowhere to keep the leftovers. Which is true of so many people passing through Fruita. BTW, the Asian salad was not so good. Not really Asian at all. More like a garden salad with some sweetened up generic Italian like dressing. No hint at soy sauce or coconut or peanuts at all. Overall, super disappointing.

Yum and fun! Best lunch and dinner in Fruita! Great pies, New Belgium beers, live music, and great staff!

Best gluten free pizza we've ever had. The make their own GF crust rather than use a frozen one like most places who make GF pizza. Topping choices are extensive too.

I came back with my scooter gang yesterday and had the stromboli and a side salad. The stromboli is served with dipping tomato sauce and is fantastic, just like Diorio's (same recipe I believe). It looks small, but they are very filling. The "side" salad is only $3.99, but it's HUGE, with fresh mushrooms, peppers and lots of great greens. I ran out of dressing and they gave me a second at no charge. There were seven of us and everybody loved their food, and the young woman behind the counter was pleasant and professional. Definitely worth a trip to Fruita, especially if you're scootin' over the Monument on a gorgeous crisp November day!

Fresh, thin-crust, wood fired, cheese pizza by the slice, even at dinner. Yum.

They seem nice enough, and quite popular for a small town. But I'm a traveler. I was flying solo as I usually am on my work trips and wanted 2 slices with lots of veggies and no cheese, since I don't do dairy. They couldn't do it. Either get a whole pie with no cheese or no dice. REALLY?! Not going to work for me. So I took my business elsewhere to Thai Palace and had a bangin' meal there instead!

So this is where all those Hot Tomato stickers come from. This place is getting to become a regional legend. You've probably had pizza like this before somewhere. There is only so much a person can do when it comes to making pizza. I know it, you know it. The real reason you should go here is because of A) good vibrant young atmosphere, B) Reasonable prices, C) You're in Fruita and there isn't a whole helluva lot more to choose from.

  • Kristine E.

We stayed in Fruita for two nights and went to Hot Tomato both nights! We loved the hula hula pizza the best, and the side salad is a great small salad. They had a decent beer selection and really nice staff. I would love to try other menu items - they looked great!

This is the best pizza I have had since moving west. It has been a long search for great pizza and I am glad that I finally found a new favorite restaurant. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is great. They serve only New Belgium beer on draft, which is great.

Ok so I'm not from NY or Chicago, so there's no way I could know REAL pizza, but if this place is wrong, I don't wanna be right! My husband and I are addicted to their Granny's Pesto. We seriously don't even think of ordering anything else. We usually pair it with an Antipasta Salad and the kiddos have a slice of their pepperoni pizza, although our 6-year-old would likely be just as happy with the Granny's! As you can tell from my check-in's, I get by here quite often. It's worth it!

Why can't we have awesome pizza places in Orange County (California)?? This place had great pizzas! Would definitely come again, if I could. I think they have a live band once a week. The patio area is great for that!

I have been to the Hot Tomato several times, and every time I thought it was fantastic. I went with something new this time, the pizza called the Sweetness, and it was OUTSTANDING! I am pretty sure it is the best pizza I have ever had! I don't know why I waited so long to try a pizza outside of my comfort zone, but it was amazing. Now I am just going to order that from here on out.

Very very cool pizza place. The guys at Over The Edge suggested that we try the seasonal Palisade Peach Pizza, and it was outstanding. Super friendly staff. Will definitely return when I'm in Fruita again!

This place rocks! Their new location is even better than the last. Great Pizza and Calzones and good beer. Great setting and in the summer nothing beats sitting on their porch dining. When in Fruita, this place is a must eat location.

HANDS DOWN the absolute best pizza in a 50 mile radius!! Pizza is always consistent and customer service is always perfect!!! When we are in town this is one of the first places we will go as we crave their pizza. And their fresh cookies always something to look forward to. If your looking for great good, and customer service that actually cares, you won't be sorry you went here. Great job guys!!! Thanks for showing others what the standard should be. See you soon.

Its a good place with an awesome atmospheric. I'm not going to lie it seems that the service is better when you are "townies" and if your are familiar with the staff. The pizza is good for thin crust and the salads are great.

Fun pizza place! Good for a bigger group, fast and friendly service, and they have a decent selection of beer on tap. Small local business, good pizza, and good beer=win.

Quaint little, but very comfortable, place. She ad a calzone, which was big enough for two. I had the small (6) order of sausage rolls, again enough for two. We split an order of the excellent cheesy bread, which was a whole lot bigger than expected. It was all very good, and we took most of what we ordered away in a pizza box, which is very unusual for us, since we are travelling.

Fun hip place in Fruita. Pizza is good but have the stomboli.

  • Brian C.

OK, so Fruita's restaurant and bar scene sucks pretty bad in general and Hot Tomato is no exception. Pizza was OK, but their salads suck - our friend's Thai Chicken Salad came with sliced deli chicken - WTF? And we ordered a Sedona without the chicken. Guess what? Yup, it still came with the same nasty deli chicken. We're vegetarian so we really didn't want any meat and they assured us this wasn't a problem. And really, if if you are going to serve chicken - cook it fresh. 15 years since they cut the first single-track in the desert and it's no wonder Moab and Durango are still the mountain bike Meccas.

HT has reopened and has added a new spark to dining in Fruita. Expanded menu from previous location, more attentive staff and clean restrooms. Pizza and stromboli's were great. They could use a larger beer selection. Nice wines.

  • Matthew H.

Clean, good service. The place seems to cater to mountain bike, 4x4, and other outdoor enthusiasts though they were more than welcoming to our family w/kiddies. Enjoyed the cheesy bread but it was way huge for an appetizer. Marinara dipping and pizza sauce was a 10. Pizza crust was decent but undercooked / floppy. I like my NY style to be "holdable" in one hand. This was the only drawback. Amazingly clean bathrooms that are outdoor access. Cool decor. Patio area was very nice and they regularly have bands entertaining their granola & hippie guests. Loved the vibe.

There once was a place called Diorio's. It was a pizzeria located in the same building and address as Hot Tomato Cafe. I was amazed the first time that I tried Diorios pizza. It was honestly top three or better of my all time pizza ranking- not just for Colorado or the inter-mountain west, but from coast to coast. I always looked foreword to big greasy slices apres mountain bike ride. A couple of years passed between visits to Fruita (home of the best trails in Moab, Utah). I parked in front of "Over the Edge Sports" (which is across the street from the cafe) and walked over for some pie. It was then that I realized that it was no longer Diorios. Slight dismay, but not discouraged I entered. It was Wednesday, there was a blues trio playing music, there were $1 pints of New Belgium Ales, and best of all: My old friends Anne Keller and Jen Zuner ("Moab ex-pats") had bought the place, and were both there serving up the pie and pints! The pie is still awesome. A plain slice stands on its own. The menu's a bit bigger than Diorios- more salads and Stromboli are great additions. Not only is the best riding in Moab in Fruita, but certainly the best pizza as well. I love Jen and Anne and pizza and mountain biking- not necessarily in that order

My meal at Hot Tomato wasn't the best of my life by any means, but I'm giving it five stars because I can't think of a single thing wrong with my dining experience there. My husband and I were going to visit the Colorado National Monument and arrived too late to camp, so we stayed for one night in Fruita. I'm so glad we did! The town is really nice and has a main strip with a few eating/drinking establishments. We were in the mood for pizza, so we went to Hot Tomato. They have a large selection of pizza options, some with white or pesto sauce which was nice since my husband's not supposed to eat red sauce and therefore pizza has kinda fallen out of our dinner repertoire. They also have some other options - salads, calzones, stromboli. I don't remember the name of the pizza we had, but it had pesto and broccoli and chicken (no chicken on my half). It was delicious and we stuffed ourselves full. I overheard one of the women working there tell some other customers that they make everything on the menu except the pesto from scratch (they used to make the pesto as well but apparently the price of pine nuts and fresh basil was exorbitantly expensive). We also had a pint or two of beer - they have some New Belgium beers on tap which is nice for us since we love N.B. and can't get it in Atlanta. The staff was really nice, the atmosphere was bright and clean, and we even bought a T-shirt and a couple Hot Tomato stickers. They closed at 9:00p, I think, so they're not open too late (although they may have different hours in different seasons). Like I said, everything about the experience was very positive and if I lived in Fruita I would be a regular at Hot Tomato.

  • Vikkie N.

If you're ever in Fruita, I hope this wonderful, bicycle themed downtown restaurant is serving their Peach pizza: bleu cheese, Palisade peaches grown a couple cities over, and Canadian bacon. Whoever came up with that combo of sweet and savory is a genius.

  • Casey R.

This is a must if you're visiting Fruita. The pizza is delicious, they have several great beers on tap, and the chicken avocado salad with their homemade balsamic is one of the best salads I've ever had. Try the Thai Me Up pizza for something different!

  • Gretchen A.

We've eaten in and carried out. The food quality is great either way. Hot Tomato is not a franchise. Ambiance is casual/ rustic. The menu includes salads, pizza, Stromboli and calzones. Everything is made in the restaurant. There is patio dining when weather permits.

  • Shar L.

I love this place! Local hangout, really good pizza and salads! Gluten free vegetarian pizza available. Good beer and wine selection. Outside seating and live music. Very fun atmosphere. The staff is friendly and hard working.

Had the Thai Me Up. It was good but would ask for extra peanut sauce. Was a tad dry otherwise great flavor and toppings. Quality crust. Would go back.

We stopped on the way to Denver and tried the Sproutacus pizza. It was fantastic! The crust is light and crunchy, a must hit if you have a few minutes.

An amazing pizza shop. -Artsy, cozy, Coloradoey ambiance. :) -They're very pro-cycling! -Calzones -Buy a pie or pizza by the slice. -Excellent microbrews. -Good positive friendly workers.

I was just driving through Colorado to Denver and decided to stop, and boy was I glad. Great pizza by the slice so it was quick, good atmosphere, and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Loved it!

  • Danielle B.

Etc.etc.

  • Kate G.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
