I almost feel bad giving Country Buffet one star, because really, it is what it is. And what it IS, is a haven for lowered expectations. On any given night you'll find a plethora of the most morbidly obese people you can imagine, stuffing their poor, abused guts full of what's basically schoolhouse cafeteria food... but worse. It's depressing. Now don't get me wrong, there's a decidedly trashy streak in me that really loves buffet-style eating (I mean, "eatin'"). Not because it's All-You-Can-Eat; even at my hungriest, I'm probably just barely scraping up my $12's worth. No... I love buffets because I hate having to make a decision on any single menu item. I'm all about sampling a bit of this, some of that, and a taste of the other. When it comes to food, I fear commitment. I mean, what if I order-- *gasp* --the wrong thing? What if it's really NOT what I want? Perish the thought! I want to try it ALL!! Little bitty bites of EVERYTHING. Too bad almost everything at Country Buffet sucks. At its best, it's either deep-fried (the okra is tolerable), dripping in fake melted butter (the sweet potatoes, which were probably the best thing on the spread), or from the dessert bar (CB's one saving grace). But at its worst... *shudder* Now, I love a good BBQ rib as much as the next person... maybe more! But the Thursday-night ribs at CB were downright scary. Most were just bone... like, where's the beef, man? I finally found one that LOOKED meaty, but when I took it back to my table and sliced into it with my knife, the only thing falling away from that shank were glistening globs of greasy fat and oily gristle. Not a single shred of actual meat. I almost vomited right then and there... I'm not even kidding. I literally pushed the offending mass of gelatinous goo to the farthest corner of our table, covered it with a napkin, and built a retaining wall out of the advertising placard, ketchup, and sugar ramekins just so I could try to pretend it wasn't there. This is not an exaggeration, I promise you. I'm well aware that Country Buffet is about the farthest thing from fine dining, and it's not like I go there expecting much. But still... I had to scrub a coagulated "something" off our supposedly-clean table with a baby wipe and healthy squirt of Purell before I'd let my finger-food-lovin' toddler even THINK about putting food from that surface into his mouth. And there's just no excuse for the terrifying experience that was that rib. From here on, I'll be getting my trashy buffet fixes strictly at those of the Asian persuasion. Even with a 2-for-1 coupon (my thanks to Gitana for the insider tip), Country Buffet is a waste of stomach space.

I have always loved going to Country Buffet, I don't think the food taste bad at all. They have a lot of foods to choose from. I have been growing to Country Buffet since I was a little kid and always loved that place and was surprised that they put a place to Grill your steak and everything but it made the place better!! I was going to give this place only 4 stars but they have any Icee machine!!!!! I love Icees and now you can get so much icees, and also the dessert is so good, I ate like three different desserts! Love this place!!

Food was good. Melissa was attentive. Staff was very attentive. Place was busy, but the food was constantly maintained. They played sweet easy listening jams while I was there. Currently listening to Chicago "You're the Inspiration", it's tight. Definitely alot different than the last time I was at a OCB. Good job!

Dinner is better than lunch here. Man I miss the Country Buffet we used to have by Wadsworth and Belleview, it felt more "adult". This one in Englewood has a lot of pre-portioned dishes, as if we were kids who need to eat a "balanced" meal. Like the other night, one of the specials was BBQ pulled pork over cowboy style potatoes, I really enjoyed the pulled pork but there was twice as much potatoes! Maybe they're trying to make you full fast? But I could've discarded all the buds and went back for more pulled pork (I didn't, but I wasn't too happy). I understand it's hard to strike a balance, they're trying to prevent food waste. Maybe implement another strategy such as making wasteful customers pay a fine instead of shuffling foods that not everybody want into every dish! The desserts are half and half (half good half awful) and the cornbread taste straight from a boxed mix. But the drinks station offer a lot of choices.

It is what it is...fast, cheap with variety. Breakfast is the best bargin.

I had a weekend breakfast with my wife at Country Buffet. I'm not the kind of person who goes to a buffet and acts as if I don't know what I'm getting into. I don't expect the food quality to be tip-top, but I also don't expect there to be noticable problems. First, as my wife and I were entering the restaurant, we passed an older couple. There was a man paying for his meal at the register ahead of us. He finished his transaction, and I couldn't figure out why the cashier hadn't gotten to us yet. We waited a couple of minutes while the cashier allowed the man in line ahead of us to pay for the older couple's meal in a separate transaction! I believe that people should be served in the order that they arrived, and it would have been simple for the cashier to take my wife and I and then allow the older couple to go next. But instead, she allowed them to cut ahead. Not a good start. At breakfast, the food is OK. The restaurant has undergone a recent makeover. Gone are the large sheet pans of food. They've been replaced with crocks under heat lamps. This works well for some food, but not for items like pancakes. My wife was not able to find a pancake that she would eat because they were all crunchy on top or stuck to the bottom of the crock. As for the rest of the food, the sausages were good. The potatoes were OK, although a bit greasy. You can order eggs fresh-made how you like them which is a nice feature. The bacon was not good. I think that perhaps they use pre-cooked bacon. It tasted like salty cardboard to me. I had a chicken fried steak, but it was not fresh, so it was not at all good. It tasted stale. My coffee had an odd "chemical" flavor to it. I'm not sure if the off flavor came from the cup, the coffee, the cream, or the sugar, but there was definitely something odd about it. Our server came to the table and introduced herself after we were just about finished with our meal. There are definitely some things here that could stand improvement. The makeover is a little like putting lipstick on a pig if the food quality and service don't follow. This wasn't a one-star experience, but in the future, my dime will go to the nearby Golden Corral because the Golden Corral has far superior quality control.

Not bad for a buffet. The yeast rolls are fantastic, the Mac and cheese is nice and creamy, service is friendly and thoughtful (our waitress was helping a person in a wheelchair get their food... it was lovely to see) The steak in the individual pans was greasy and fill of gristle, in mine anyway. My boyfriend's was better in both aspects. Sugarfree desserts have apparently greatly improved from the mere cookies that were offered earlier. The mashed potatoes were creamy, food was hot and plenty of variety, but the meat was either greasy or dry. So... I'll likely come back when others want to but I don't see myself coming on my own accord.

It has been YEARS since I have eaten at a Country Buffet. Not that I didn't like them in the past...it is just that I have tried to stay away from eating massive amounts of food in one setting. But, I couldn't resist a return visit after watching the commercials by their CEO talking about how they have improved. I have to say that they have upped their game. Based upon a vague memory or the past...their food seems to be better.

My husband and I hadn't been to our neighborhood CB in many, many years. Their new commercials advertise some yummy dishes so we thought we would check it out. Needless to say......we won't be going back. The new look is horrible. Resembles Chuckie Cheese with the added kid areas and kitschy signs over the food areas. We went on a Sunday evening and all we heard thru our entire meal was how slammed they had been all day and how sorry everyone was. If Sunday is typically a busy day then a restaurant plans for that and accommodations are made. I had to ask our server to make coffee and why the chocolate milk dispenser was empty. She put a squeeze bottle of chocolate syrup by the white milk dispenser. Every shortfall was blamed on the busy day. The dessert area had cookies, pumpkin pie and chocolate cake. That's it. Lots of signs indicating you could have had apple crisp, or chocolate pudding, or brownies if it hadn't been such a busy day. The place was a mess and felt grimy. Food everywhere. We even noticed food splattered on the blinds by our table. It was loud with screaming and yelling children, birthday announcements (ugh) and general chaos. We filled up as fast as we could and got the hell out of there. Best part of our visit was the people watching. The clientele rival the "people of Walmart" by a mile.

Expect nothing, get nothing, a maxim by which I live my life. If that's the case, CB surpassed my expectations. I didn't stop here for gourmet cooking; no, I came to get a filling meal on the cheap. However, I really enjoyed my experience. The food was better than anticipated, I left feeling satisfied with my meal. The waitstaff were outstanding though, both friendly and attentive with sincere attitudes. Definitely would return!

I enjoy having choices so that is why I go to a buffet. I do not like the pre-portioned food that country buffet now has, also I don't like chasing the pan around as it slides on the tiles. I would like to see them go back to putting the food in the stream table pans. I think the food stays hotter and you can get as much or as little as you want.

We were from out of town and starving. This place has very friendly staff. It's clean and the food is delicious. Not a HUGE selection as Golden Corral, but the food quality is way better. We would definitely eat here again!

I bypass other restaurants when I want variety. Country Buffet fits the bill. I enjoy the salad bar and Mexican bar. The rest is like a candy store, what do I pick next!

Hubs and I like this location of Country Buffet. One of the weekends we went here since Hubs was craving to eat a BUFFET. Yes the portions are huge if you want ALL YOU CAN EAT. The restaurant was indeed kept clean. My favorite dish was the BEEF RIBS. I heard from one of the waitstaff, the weekends are the IDEAL time to get BUFFETS since they have many more variety of MEATS, if you are into that. Plenty of food, that both Hubs and I like to choose. From fried chicken, baked chicken, baked fish, vegetables, and make your own salad at the salad bar, dessert station to name a few. This Country Buffet is one of the better Country Buffet we have been. The waitstaffs are indeed attentive, polite and accommodating. This Country Buffet is located in the Englewood Plaza. Definitely a return if we are in this neighborhood. Perhaps we might return for the weekend BREAKFAST to see, taste and perhaps review about it.

Just not worth it. Party of two, I order a drink and the other does not. We're handed one glass, no explanation given. Well with only one person who ordered a drink, I take the glass. Turns out that's for the person who opted not to drink. I got stopped by an employee for using this glass. What a way to ruin a meal and a first visit. Just leave this place alone for those that know how to play its games. Go to a real restaurant that knows customer service and won't assume the worst of its customers.

Actually pretty good food....pay first then pig out...steaks are tiny but delicious fresh off the grill..better than golden corral for sure! Can't expect too much from a buffet right?

I didn't realize how much I liked this place until I wasted an evening at the Barf Palace, also known as Golden Corral. In the past I avoided this place because of the percentage of grossly overweight clientele. Some of them are so big that it makes me feel sad - which is no way to feel while you are eating. I'm sure those people would agree with that sentiment. That's why they love Country Buffet - it makes them happy. That's a good thing I suppose. The food is solid. Damn solid. It's salty but I expect that. They are trying to appeal to the masses, after all. They have to offer whammo flavor. I enjoy the wide variety of choices as much as the kiddoes do. The fried chicken holds up with with any chain's. There's a great salad bar (best to fill up there) and there are healthy grilled options like salmon that are prepared very nicely. There is gravy-covered slop, too, which is yummy and lots of deep-fried widgets to dip in stuff, which is always nice. The Englewood store has a wonderfully friendly staff. Even when they are not interacting directly with customers they appear to enjoy their jobs. The company is doing something right. It's very clear that this store is very well managed. I am always treated well by every staffer I encounter - without exception. That's a remarkable thing. It's very clean. Considering the parade of people that come through there it's mind-bogglingly clean. I like that. Not so much as a pea on the floor. It's convenient. I love that I pay before I eat. No waiting for some distracted waiter to bring you the check. Chow down and split. I like that. The tea is good. The Coffee is good. The deserts are way too good. Bravo, Country Buffet in Englewood! You have earned a place in my heart - and my kid's memories. That's special. The fat people - well, I guess they help me control my portions.

Most buffets are mediocre, but this location is managed very well....EXCEPT on Thursday nights when he's not there. Then it's terrible. (no forks at any station for over 15 minutes, empty containers for over half an hour). Thank heavens for a really great server who chased down everything for me. She really scrambled to compensate for lazy kitchen staff. There is a HUGE difference in cleanliness, qualtiy and availability when the manager is there vs when he has his days off. But when he's there, this place has really good food. Home-cooked style as good as any I've tasted in this un-foodie town. He makes the difference. Everything is kept filled, and the food is fresh and attractive. Subtle flavorings and nothing overcooked. I started coming to this location after the crestline location thankfully closed. That place was a disaster, with rude employees who literally chased out the customers. I've never felt anything but welcome at the Englewood location. Keep up the good work. (the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of how the kitchen works when the manager isn't there...work ethic sucks, but that's something I've seen all over this town)

When that leftover Chinese takeout looks like a Chia Pet, there's absolutely nothing else to eat in the house, and you are ravenously hungry, Country Buffet is there waiting there for you. I recently went here for lunch when 3 days of lost-appetite ''blahs'' wore off and I was ready to eat a horse. For less than $10 I certainly got filled up. First thing I noticed is they charge one price for the lunch meal ($6.99), then almost two bucks more if you want a beverage. So with tax it was over $9. I'm not complaining but the sign touting lunch for $6.99 is a bit misleading. Anyways, the place was not too crowded at lunchtime and it was easy to find a table. I really like the salad bar. You can load up on quite a variety of lettuces and toppings and lots of ''normal'' salad dressings. No raspberry/flax seed vinaigrette here - it's Bleu Cheese, French, Italian, etc... Everything was pretty fresh too. For the main meal there's lots of filling, high-calorie, low-quality food to pick from, but there's also some decent stuff. I loaded up on some kind of fish (carp?), baked potato, green beans, squash, and some kind of casserole with chicken and peas. How'd it taste? Some was better than others but in general it's edible but not fine cuisine. There's a good desert bar too and I snagged a couple brownies, passing over the cakes, puddings, ice cream, and assorted gooey pastries. By the time I left I was stuffed and everything stayed down. I wouldn't eat here too often, but if you are really starving it's the perfect restaurant. This one is located about 2 blocks north of Hampden not far from the Wells Fargo office tower in Englewood.

In a word-huge. I have only been for the breakfast buffet, but it is fairly overwhelming. The food is fairly heavy, since it is "traditional american'. It's best to get tiny portions as you make your way through, cause there will be a lot to see. A bit expensive if you're a light eater, I'd say it's only worth it for those who really like to chow down. On weekends, it's crowded, so the staff pretty much just drops you off at a table and sets you free. I would recommend folks with wheel chairs or walkers might have an easier time during the week, when it's less chaotic. The staff appears regularly to clean up plates, which is really all the service I need at a buffet. I'd probably rate the food as three and a half stars, but Country Buffet gets a full four stars for having such a huge selection.
