We asked the owner of the B&B we were staying at for restaurant suggestions for dinner and this ace was at the top of her list. As soon as I heard "wonderful salad bar" I was in.... especially after eating junk-food in 3 airports on my way to Durango. It's quaint and cozy inside and our waitress Taylor was as friendly as could be. There's a great selection of fish and chicken and steak options on the menu and they are all served with fresh veggies and a choice of potato or rice. The salad bar can be added to any entree for an additional $9. Wonderful bread and whipped butter were brought to the table. My friend had the salmon, veggies, a baked potato, and the salad bar and was as happy as could be. I thought it was a bit pricy at $23 plus $9 (but that's just me). I was as happy as could be with just the salad bar (which amazingly came with a choice of potato or rice on the side) for $12. The salad bar had everything imaginable on it and it was as fresh and yummy as could be! And my loaded (!!!) baked potato was the best one I've ever had.... seriously! We were both stuffed and happy, but just had to have the "Death by Chocolate" dessert that the B&B owner gave us a coupon for. It was a Rocky Mountain sized piece of mocha mud pie ice cream in a chocolate cookie crust topped with clouds of whipped cream. Wow!

On my hunt for fresh oysters as a landlocked Colordian I usually go to Highway 3 a Roadhouse here in dgo where they have consistency awesome oysters for a small Colorado town. However I was downtown and not wanting to drive so me and my Mom (another oyster lover) decided to try Red Snapper, we were both happy enough with our entrees although we felt for the price they could have been better, however what we came for, fresh oysters, were a disappointment. They were shucked improperly and were full of shell crumbs, a few of mine tasted on the verge of spoiling, likely because the oysters were served at room temperature! The were not even served on Ice, which is the number one rule of good oysters. I love seafood and this place is ok, but I certainly will be sticking with the roadhouse for oysters from now on

Was hoping for a really good fish dinner on our last night in Durango and since the reviews said it has been a spot in town for over 30 years was very optimistic that we had made the right choice - big mistake. Waited over 15 minutes for 2 glasses of wine Halibut special was ok but certainly not worth the $34 price tag. Husband ordered medium well filet mignon - inedible it was so over cooked! Poor service - less than mediocre food and very overpriced - what a disappointment for our last night in Durango.

Delicious food, great salad bar, friendly, efficient service.. The blackened salmon was cooked perfectly! We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant.

First time eating here, my wife & I chose Red Snapper for Valentine's Day dinner. The place was packed, but as we had a reservation, were seated right away. I ordered the prime rib, my wife had stuffed chicken. Both were excellent, the prime rib was more of a ribeye steak, very thick, well seasoned and so tender you could cut it with a fork. Very reasonable prices too as you can each have a great appetizer, entre, 2 or 3 drinks and get out of there for around 100. Atmosphere is so-so, there's a barfly crowd of lonely people who seem to eyeball everyone who walks in.

I was on vacation with a girlfriend in Colorado and we asked the locals where there was a good place to have seafood. All of them said we needed to go to the Red Snapper. I am glad we did. I ordered the crab and it was very tasty and so delicious and the price was very reasonable for seafood. This was a very good recommendation. I would recommend it myself. Service was great too.

Went to dinner this past Saturday night with friends and everyone truly enjoyed everything served except for a few raw oysters which were off. We started with oysters rockefeller, calamari and raw oysters along with the salad bar. We found the salad bar to be very well stocked with a variety of choices, chilled plates enhance the experience. Oysters Rockefeller and calamari were both delicious but a few raw oysters out of the half dozen were bad...sadly, they replaced with bad oysters again so just gave up on them. However, the restaurant still charged full price so a bit disappointed but not worth the battle. All dinner entrees to include a halibut special with wild rice, paella, seafood stew and steamed clams were excellent, especially the halibut which was cooked perfectly along with delicious wild rice. Service was good with an overall positive experience. Definitely would return again when in Durango!

The way that people gush about their salad bar you would think they have never participated in human troft-style eating. It's a salad bar. All the enthusiasm over salad bars peaked and declined in the 80's. Get over it. The food is alright. I have had better seafood in other places in Durango. A few times I have come here for company Holiday parties... eh. Free food is free food, right?

One of my all-time favorite restaurants ever. The crab and rib eye dish is out of control. Add a side of stuffed mushrooms, a delicious sangria, and some oysters, and I am in heaven! Man I want some seafood and steak right now. They have pretty aquariums around the place, big booth seats that are so comfortable and you can enjoy a delicious meal here peacefully. It can sometimes be a wait but I have never waited more than 10 minutes- ever. The salad bar is great too and over all the service is excellent. I am hungry now!

My family has come here on several occasions, and have always enjoyed ourselves. Most recently I got the prime rib and crab combo, and it was superb! Their clam chowder is one of the best I've had. All the servers are top notch as well.

Had lunch with crab cake appetizer that was fried on the outside and still partially frozen on the inside accompanied by wilted lettuce. I then had the lobster wrap that must have been in the refrigerator for awhile, not at all fresh or tasty. Couldn't even really recognize it as lobster. The young waiter seemed confused about his job, went to get change for a $10 Bill and forgot to return, earlier forgot that we had asked for sweetener for our tea. The entire experience was regrettable. I gave a two star rating only because the hostess was very pleasant.

Yep, it's expensive. But it is SO GOOD. The service, the menu, the quality of the food... you get what you pay for.

Talk about the perfect 1:2 punch! Awesome combination of food and drink! The Cadillac Margaritas are the bomb! Best seafood restaurant in Durango hands down! The owner is so personable and really wants the guests to have the best dinning experience in town. If you are in Durango you need to stop by here! Grab a drink and get some appetizers if nothing else. Oh, the cioppino is to die for!

Mrs G. has a term for Red Snapper, and she relates it to both the menu and the atmosphere: 80's. First the menu. Nothing flashy but good basic food: trout almondine, salmon, scallops, tempura shrimp, ahi tuna. No fancy sauces. Pretty middle of the road. Take any one of these entrees and you could easily jazz it up 4 or 5 ways, but if you are shooting for dead-center, you put almonds on the trout, you sear the tuna a bit more even if someone orders it rare, you offer a baked potato and some oiled veggies on the side, don't cook the veggies too much. The atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect for the 80's tag, too: nothing flashy, pretty basic. We got what was expected when we ate there recently. So, for those of you who want good basic meal near Main Street, Snapper is fine, but if you are looking for the best restaurant in Durango, this is far from it.

I had the Cioppino. Very well made dish. This version had a thicker tomato sauce than I've had elsewhere, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is my favorite restaurant in Durango! The salad bar is fantastic with over 30 items stocked. Their house made salad dressings are wonderful. One of the really nice features at this restaurant: you receive a starch (3 potato options, as well as a delicious wild rice), a mixed vegetable, and the salad bar with each entree. We celebrated a birthday here, and you get a free dessert for the birthday person, which is most definitely large enough for 4 people to split. They have some nice custom cocktail creations, and a decent wine list. Service here is always excellent. They provide just the right amount of attention, but leave you alone enough to enjoy your meal. If you enjoy good seafood, you won't want to miss this spot when you visit Durango!

Overpriced and average food. Not worth the money at all.

I really wanted to like this place... But overall, the food just wasn't very good, I'm actually being generous giving 3 stars... It's supposed to be a seafood restaurant but their seafood is just very mediocre. One thing I don't get is how can you go wrong w/ Shrimp cocktail??? The size of the shrimp was actually pretty big but the freshness was just very very disappointing. I won't be going back...

The locals seem to love this place (one man turned to me while we were both using the bathroom and said 'Great restaurant, huh?') but we were disappointed with our meal and our experience. Our very simple entrees took a suspiciously long time to arrive, to a degree that we began to assume that someone forgot to put our order in. When our food did arrive, it was delivered one plate at a time, lukewarm, and neither our waiter nor the manager who came to check in on us made any attempt to apologize or explain why things took so long. The entrees themselves looked promising on the menu (e.g. Tequila Lime Shrimp) but were bland and uninspired. The only things saving The Red Snapper from a 1-star review from this reviewer were the bisque and salad bar, both of which were right on the money. Everything else was a big disappointment.

Best dinner we've had in town so far. We're on a short vacation and have tried a couple different places. The star of the show was the fish. Expertly cooked, we enjoyed both a Walu special and a Flounder dish prepared specially for my wife's diet (no gluten). They were both excellent - the Walu was breaded in panko and parmesan, and in a citrus buerre blanc. The piece was pretty thick, and yet cooked just right and evenly. Loved every bite. The Flounder was also excellent, same sauce, and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Both the server (and chef, who came out to discuss my wife's diet) were very accommodating and friendly. All entrees come with their salad bar, which was fresh and good. Deserts were also good - we had creme brulee and key lime pie. Check it out if you like fish!

I has heard nothing but good things about the snapper, so when my parents came to town I suggested it. Wow, was it bad. The drink was bad, the salad bar was bad, the food was bad and the service was bad. No one finished their plate.
