Best pizza in the world. Really. They only have one oven, so call an hour ahead and order. Staff is super-friendly.

I've been here twice and each time, really enjoyed the food. Yes, the wait is long (as every review states), but the good is worth it and for the location, what else are you going to do? I called ahead for take out and the bartender was honest and friendly and let me know it would be 1 1/2 for a calzone. No problem. We watched the game in our rental condo, waited, and picked it up right at the time they suggested. It was hot, delicious, and the two of us ate until we were stuffed, and we had leftovers! All for about 15 bucks! Truly a great deal. The wings are also excellent and spicy, the pizzas are filling and fresh. Great beers on tap, and a gorgeous view from the patio. On another visit with more time on my hands, I enjoyed local beer while waiting, and enjoyed reading the walls and looking around. Everyone there was very friendly. It's not the best place for little kids, but it's a lot of fun. If I lived nearby, I'm sure I'd become a regular. I really like the atmosphere.

Best pizza ever!!! The crust is nice and crunchy, but soft and chewy in the middle! I would give 5 stars but the place is a little run down. It's more of a bar than a pizza joint. Dollar bills, panties, and bras hanging from the ceiling. The seating is horrible. I pretty much fell through my seat. If this place was specifically a pizza place it would be amazing! Friendly staff and plenty of beer choices.

This place is the bomb. If you live in the area, you know it is. If you don't, you'll just complain that it's too grungy and that the food takes too long, so go eat in town. The pizza is off the hook!! Love it or leave it!!

Great pizza place that isn't afraid to call some LA housewife's husband a dick!!!!!! You are in the sticks folks. Needles, Colorado is like population 20. Have a beer, get your kids some root beer. Order a pizza and Re-M-F-ing-relax. Wow I feel better already. The pizza very good, the staff friendly to those that are friendly, the setting first class. Those of you from LA? Take your dick husband back to Pizza Hut on Mulholland Drive. Colorado has had enough of your BS. No one calls it "Purg". Maybe you can tag team with Julie and the old bitches down at the liquor store. Bless America you Cali folks are tiring.

Cool, tasty, funky mountain bar. This bar has a TON of character, with lots of characters, great beer, excellent pizza, and reasonable prices. Only downside: it took 70 minutes for our pizza to be ready after we called in our order. However, as long as you can relax, budget the time, have a beer, play old school shuffle hockey or a game of pool, you'll be really happy with the pizza, the nice bartender, and local flavor. Solid place.

Great "dive" atmosphere! Everyone is very friendly. Pizza is delicious but be ready for a wait -- waited 45 minutes when there wasn't much of a crowd. The wait is the reason for just 3 stars.

Beyond gourmet pizza is hidden in this funky mountain style, quaint bar that is The Schoolhouse. It sits on the 550, next to needles town homes, about 3 miles before Durango mountian resort. You order at the bar & take your pick of a bar stool, corner booth, or reclaimed metal double school chair; all of which offer high dollar views. THE PIZZA. Big delicious fresh soft crispy crust with just a hint of sweet. Fresh toppings, generously piled on top & covered with cheeses. Perfect seasonings of garlic? Fresh herbs maybe.. oregano? Basil? We went for The Fatty & Casa ...something. So good, we had to come back 2 nights later for a second round of The Fatty & then tried the pesto one (my favorite). Wings are baked & extra tasty. Blue cheese dressing trumps the ranch. Full bar & local euphoria beer will do you up proper. Don't forget to pull the bell on your way out. Good times.

Great pizza, local beer on tap, and a lively atmosphere! What else could you ask for after a day of skiing? My husband and I came with a few friends on Friday night. The place itself has lots of character and is pretty divey, but in the best way. We ordered a couple of pizzas, dinner salads, bread sticks, and some Ska brewskies. We were told that the pizza would take 1 hour and 10 minutes, so don't come if you're famished, but good god it was worth the wait. The crust was pretty thick and just a little doughy. And they have a variety of veggie toppings, which I appreciate (broccoli on pizza is the best!). One of our friends is gluten intolerant, so he called ahead and they let us bring our own gluten-free crust that they topped and cooked. So nice of them! We had plenty of leftovers and ate some for lunch on the mountain today. Oh so delicious! Have a little snack before you come, and get ready for a great meal!

Wow! Super rude guy yelling at us. Did not stick around to try his mean pie. Very poor treatment of our large and hungry party.

Delicious dive! The pizza is really good (but does take a little bit of time). We had plenty of beer and wings while waiting. It's a fun spot.

Love this place. Friendly staff and locals there. Pizza takes 1 hr. to 1.5 hrs after you order during busy times because they only have one oven and one cook with call ins and dining room orders. Witnessed many people turned away or left after they figured out how long it would take. The Schoolhouse should "stick it to the man" and get another oven and cook during peak times. Places like this should be popular and busy. They could be an economic powerhouse and hire more people. F u man! Usually pretty good music playing and a pool table with local sharks around. If you are uptight or in a hurry, don't come here. I'm sure they won't miss you.

I actually didn't eat the pizza here , although it smelled de-lish . Popped in for a drink though and couldn't have had a better time. The bartender was super friendly , poured a stiff drink , and everybody in this place was super duper nice.Wish i had a place like this back home.

Total dump!!! With some really good deals and about the BEST Calzone you will ever eat in your life!!! Warning: don't bring the family here at night. Crowd is not child friendly. A bit rough. Daytime is fine. Seriously the Calzone is worth driving to Durango for!!!

There is a lot of hype about this place, and after living here off and on for over 15 years we decided to stop after an awesome day at Purg. I was excited, the kids were excited and my husband headed to the bar for a couple beers. I hear the chick at the bar ask for his ID (um he's 38, with two kids in tow) and I think wtf. This sucked since his ID is with our plane at the hangar. Long story short..... would not serve him. I could order a beer but not one for him. The guy making pizza called my husband a DICK. WOW! Thats not a first but he usually deserves it. Not this time. Put the kids snow gear back on and headed to town ending up at Chimayo were we experienced real service and top notch food. The Olde Schoolhouse was a huge disappointment and I feel sorry for place. WAKE UP schoolhouse and look around. If you want to make money don't turn business away. But then again.... maybe you enjoy the filthy rude, nasty reputation you are building.

I waited 45 min for my togo pizza. The bar/cook was drunk and washed her hands in the glass washer sink. I spent $20.00 on a par cooked pizza! It went into the garbage. I should just burned $20 bucks. Do not ever eat there !!!!

Mostly a place for your local bubbas to drink beer. The pizza is the best I have ever had but because of the altitude it's loaded with gluten so beware you may end up being in the bathroom for a while after. It's a hole in the wall kind of place and the inside is a little odd with dollars stapled to the ceiling, a leg hanging in the door way. But it's great pizza and there's a lot of character there.

the pizza was great. free pool table. but the wait was 45 minutes which is a long time for a pizzza, but it was worth it

Seriously, the best pizza I've ever had. When you walk up to this place, it looks like an old road house bar. The parking lot is on dirt and the ceilings are pinned up with dollar bills and business cards. I didn't think much of this place when I walked in. The bartender was very friendly and sarcastic (in a good way). I ordered a local red beer and a pizza. The pizza was phenomenal. Crispy crust with fresh ingredients. The last time I had pizza this good, it was at Zachary's in Berkeley, only this pizza is thinner and lighter. The night we went, it was dead. But from what I hear, it gets pretty wild in the later evenings.
