Pancakes are the size of a platter! Homemade corned beef hash was delicious and a huge slab of hash browns was served along side. Friendly staff in a traditional diner, with reasonable prices. A nice find in this small town.

Food is excellent here. Definitly worth the wait. I'm from phx, az wish they serve food like this there. The cure and kitchen sink omelette is awesome.

Another great Durango find! Our motel suggested this as "the best breakfast in town" so we figured, why not? It's on the main avenue and it's small. Basically a long counter and a couple small booths in the back. Not that that is a problem. We sat at the counter and you can tell it's a place where locals come regularly. Everyone seemed to know each other. But we didn't feel out of place as visitors. I liked that the "kitchen" is right in front of you. We enjoyed watching the rhythm the cook had. Pour batter. Flip bacon. Flip hashbrowns. Flip pancake. Repeat. Our server was friendly. The food came fast. And it was a great breakfast. My bf had the pancake, singular, because they are the size of dinner plates. I had the biscuits and gravy. Let me tell you about that. Just a couple days prior I was saying even though it's my favorite, I never get biscuits and gravy from restaurants because A: the biscuits are usually shitty pillsbury grands biscuits. B: the gravy is often from a package and C: it can't compete with mine. But I saw the biscuits they use and they looked homemade and delicious, so I thought, why not? Let's take a chance. Glad I did! The biscuits were as good as they looked and the gravy was either homemade or the best packaged one I've ever had. I still prefer mine but as far as a restaurant goes, this was great! Definitely recommend!

What a gem! We stumbled upon this spot and obviously we could tell this is locals popular spot. A classic "diner" like the ones you would see on sitcoms, people reading newspaper at the counter, staff know their regulars... The cook worked tirelessly and efficiently, handling many plates at a time. WHO MAKES HASHBROWNS BY SHREDDING FRESH POTATOES IN THE GRILL?? They do!! Yum! They made my daughter's Mickey pancake that totally made her day! (They care about how perfect their food is so much that they threw away the first masterpiece and redid it to their liking) We gobbled up our food and enjoyed this little gem very much!! Their portions are HUGE we practically wobbled out of there!

Lucky enough to walk in and find seats at Durango Diner! I have tried to have breakfast here on a couple occasions and have been unable to due to the wait. We walked right in and found two seats! I love the feel of this diner, it's old-school and you get to watch food being cooked and waiters running around. We ordered a sausage omelet, a side of French toast, and the French bread breakfast sandwich with sausage and eggs. My omelet was pretty good and I l enjoyed their hashbrowns a lot! My boyfriend liked his French toast and breakfast sandwich. We got all three plates plus two coffees for about $30. Service was excellent; my coffee cup was always full. The owner was a sweetheart and very friendly.

Really tasty food and our server was over the top nice and efficient! Great location and a fun spot to get breakfast or lunch.

Everyone told me to try it. I had really high hopes however my dreams we're crushed when my hash browns were still raw and my pancakes were burned, I would have asked for a replacement but I didn't want to agitate the waiting staff as they were already frustrated from a busy morning, besides I already seemed like an ungrateful jerk for asking about a second cup of coffee. I paid, then left, hungry and sad.....

Green Chili Overdose Durango Diner has been around for many years. The boss must really like John Wayne since there are a bunch of photos of "The Duke" everywhere. Service is casual and friendly as you would expect in a diner. We had eaten a lot of green chili as we traveled around New Mexico in the previous weeks. So we were looking forward to the Durango Diner and their claims of great green chili. Two of us got the green chili cheeseburger. In New Mexico we were used to a small amount of green chili on the burger to give it a great kick. At the Durango Diner they serve the hamburger open-faced with a huge ladle of soupy green chili sauce over everything. The bun is immediately turned to an unpleasant mush. The accompanying fries were greasy. The third person in our party got scrambled eggs with green chili. She had the sense to ask for the chili on the side. It was another huge serving of the same watery, soupy sauce. The scrambled eggs were fine. Maybe that's just the way they serve it in Colorado. But we won't be returning to the Durango Diner.

The Green Chili Burrito was HUGE and really good. The service was quick & witty. All in all, it was a good meal for a reasonable price.

I was looking for an alternative to Denny's, and I checked out this place via YELP. It was the best place I have eaten during my entire week vacation. This is a locals joint, and just what I was looking for: a solid breakfast with a wide variety of great dishes; extremely good, filling and inexpensive. Service was good and food was better. This is a great breakfast spot in Durango, and highly recommended.

Great diner experience...try the breakfast burrito with green sauce. Be prepared to have great conversation and coffee served from the pot.

We came here twice on our four day vacation, so that should tell you something. The first time was for lunch and I had a cheeseburger with fries and a side of green chili. All of it was great! Everything is homemade from the fries to the chili. The second time was for breakfast and I got the corned beef hash. The hash was perfect but I didn't like the hash browns. Maybe too much better but something about them was off. We also got a blueberry pancake (huge) for the table to share and that was amazing. I highly recommend the Durango Diner! It's just good, homemade food! YUM!

Omg an order of potatoes is shredded right in front of you portions are huge they don't mess around here!

  • Robbie P.

Great local diner. I got the cure with sausage. Anything with their green chili is going to be great. I would suggest getting bacon however, the only reason why I got sausage is because a lot of diners skimp out on their bacon but after eating there I doubt this place would do that.

    (5)
  • J Y.

Great casual eating. Sat at the bar and got a hearty breakfast with lots of homemade green chili sauce. Friendly service, and bottomless coffee.

  • Dave N.

The food wasn't anything special - it was just classic american diner food. The ambiance was really neat though. It was fun to sit and listen to the regulars and the waitresses sass each other back and forth. Its located in a cool old building on Main. We were driving through and had breakfast and it was ok.

The place to go for a good, filling, inexpensive breakfast. I visited the Diner twice during a recent stay in Durango, and each time, I got the kind of diner food I expected and wanted. Cooked on a grill that's in front of the counter seats, you get solid, basic breakfast food with a Southwestern twist. Huevos Rancheros, green chile sauce, tasty bacon, a big pile of hash browns, and a bottomless cup of coffee. What's not to love?

    (4)
  • Kim A.

I absolutely love the pancakes... it's one of my favorites on the weekends. The only issue I ever have is that the hash browns aren't always cooked fully. But everything else is always delicious!

    (4)
  • Aaron H.

It's awesome, I've been going there for years but it's a total gut bomb. Tourists, don't go there before you go to Mesa Verde, you'll regret it.

  • Steven W.

A was greeted by one of the nicest waitresses ever... I ate a good meal of a chile relleno, eggs and hash browns.. all very tasty. The stand out was the green chile which was poured over all my good food. The green chile has big beautiful chunks of fresh green chile which warmed the soul and sooted my chile craving. A wonderful breakfast in a old fashioned diner .. So good!

  • Stephanie P.

Definitely if you're hungry come here. The plates were full. Pancakes filled an entire diner size plate. Very friendly. Small place and diner feeling. Food was okay.

Every time I go back to Durango, I think about the Durango Diner. It's a mainstay establishment, and has some of the best damn green chile in the nation, in my opinion. In fact, you can try it - they sell their green chile online and will ship it to you! I have two jars of it in my cabinet now, and I'm waiting for a good reason to break it out and eat it with steak and eggs. If you haven't had hatch green chile yet, and you're looking for the old-school cafe-bar experience in an old western town, look no further than Durango Diner! It's as good as it gets, trust me, I grew up on the stuff.

  • Ron R.

Omg. The real deal. Counter stretches for 50 feet. Narrow, a few tables up front n back. The counter. The food. Ordered " the cure". Huge plate of shredded homefries, layers over of cheese, bacon like I have NEVER had, covered with eggs covered with green Chile. Coffee was good. I'm 60 plus years. Ate like a 20 yo. Whazzup dudes? Service fast professional. So good. So good. Wow. Diner in middle of cool historic Durango district. Not telling where it is. Find it !

Finally made it back here after 10 years to fish the San Juan with me mate, right? Whatcha thinks we see guv'nah? Full boat of fish, spey clinic with Mike and heaps of green chili sauce on on me Andouille Sausage!

We came here looking for a local restaurant. The food was lack luster and overpriced. The portions were generous, but not worth the money. If you are hungry and need to eat quickly, this is the place. If you are looking for something tasty, I'd go elsewhere.

  • J.D H.

(8/12). Cool looking diner - had to go in and try it out. We sat at the counter by the grill. Their servings are HUGE, so be careful what you order. We ordered a pancake - which was burnt. But that seems to be how they make it here. At least it was fluffy ! and something called the Cure. It's eggs and meat and stuff all piled up on a huge serving if hashbrowns covered in salsa. That was ok. Coffee tasted watery - I'll stick with the local coffee shop. The service is prompt and with a smile.

  • Michele S.

Hands down the best breakfast place in town. Generous portions, reasonable prices, and great staff that is normally the perfect amount of attentive. When you go, go hungry and try The Cure. It will fix all that ails you. A must do when in Durango! Oh and as an added bonus you can nurse your hangover with a Bloody Mary at The El Rancho Tavern on weekends and have your breakfast from the diner brought down to you. You really cannot ask for more!

  • Carrie B.

Best local joint I have ever been to. The food is comfort that staff is the gem! We went there a year ago and fell in love with the food and the atmosphere. A year later the same waitress waited on us and she remembered her "swimmers" from Texas!

The Durango Diner is a real deal diner. You owe it to yourself to grab breakfast at the very least. The service is excellent, portions are huge, prices are very reasonable. Oh yes, "The Cure" works!

This is absolutely wonderful place. Huge portions and amazing local sausage and bacon. The best!! My wife had kitchen sink omelette. I had eggs and sausage. Love love love that green chili gravy!

  • Courtney H.

Expect to wait about an hour for food if your hungry. Everytime I have dined there I see employees touching their faces or eating and then preparing customers toast with unwashed hands. Food is below average and extremely greasy. The only good thing about this place is the location is across from my home. Other than that I would avoid this place.

Great place to eat breakfast , I went there with my family on vacation, probably the best place to eat there. Loved everything about that place.

  • TJ B.

I love places like this! Sat at the counter and watched them shave fresh potatoes for every home fries order, which they cooked until crisp! Everything looked good. I got the Huevos Racheros. The green chili was excellent. I'd get something else next time as this was just a sloppy breakfast :) thrown on top of a soft flour tortilla, but I get it. Omelettes, burgers, and pancakes looked fantastic, though. Side of green chili for me the next time I go.

    (5)
  • John T.

OMG! Fabulous experience. Eat at the counter and watch this incredibly talented crew make it all happen. Had "The Cure" with ham. Green chili is over the top perfect. Only minor complaint was that our toast came out way before our meals so it was cold toast with the meal. But I'm sure they would have gladly retoasted it if we had asked. I might go back to Durango just for the breakfast. Yeah, it's that good.

My in-laws are regulars here so they naturally made sure we stopped in on our vacation. This place was POPPING Sunday AM; we must've just hit the post-church worship rush because this place was packed and it took way too long to get our food. I'm talking like we placed our order and got it 45min later, insane. I didn't hold it against them though, they were hustling and pumping out the diner faire as fast as possible...they sure do a business. Solid breakfast menu and specials board. Of course that day they were out of avocado that I so wanted to add to my meal, oh well. I landed on the huevos rancheros; husband had eggs/bacon/potatoes/toast; pop-in-law had the eggs benny (special; one with/out green chili hollandaise!); step-mom-in-law had 2 HUGE blueberry pancakes. everything we tried was delicious...I was a bit disappointed with my meal though but everyone else's looked and tasted good!! coffee was refilled repeatedly as was our h2o. I wish the food came quicker, we were getting antsy about it near the end there. oh well, shows that everyone comes here for good food and the big portions! oh and reasonable prices too, 4 peoples food/drink was about $40, woo whoo. not a huge establishment by any means, but I was surprised we walked in and sat down right away...but the wait, ouch. I don't think that's the norm though. check it out for sure for a good meal! oh and ask for extra crispy potatoes, they don't cook them near long enough IMO :)

We stumbled upon this place and it was the BOMB. Highly recommend to anyone coming into, through or staying in Durango. Melanie was our waitress and she was super friendly and the food is the real deal. Besides the generous portions, the flavor and options are out of this world. Best way to start your day is with breakfast at this joint. Plan on coming in!

One of the best places in town for an honestly great homestyle breakfast. Killer bacon. Homemade chili sauces (green is best) for your eggs.

  • joey p.

One of the few establishments left open from when I lived in Durango 32 years ago. I still maintain they have some of the best blueberry pancakes on the planet earth. Portions are large and the food is fresh. You will probably need to sit at the counter as there are very few tables. For a real treat sit across from the grill and watch the cook ply his trade.

    (5)
  • Graeme R.

Great food, large portions. 9 out of 10 in my opinion. They have an original diner atmosphere.

    (5)
  • Jackie B.

Went here for breakfast. Ordered the ham and cheese omelette with a side of bacon. Thanks to Yelp reviews we decided to split the meal. It came out on 2 plates for us, thanks! Omelette was delicious, bacon was outstanding! Very thick cut! I like my hashbrowns a little more cooked. Only reason for not giving 5 stars: our meal came out in pieces. We got the bacon first. Then 5 minutes later the Omelette. A few minutes later, the toast. Price was great, no tourist mark ups here! $12 for the two of us!

    (4)
  • Katherine B.

Best breakfast ever! The hash browns are fresh-grated onto the grill and just the right amount of crispy. The pancakes are huge and fluffy. All the portions are very large. Seating is primarily counter which is friendly and makes for speedy service. There are a few tables at the front and back of the restaurant. We would definitely eat here every chance we get!

Durango Diner is now my 2nd favorite diner in the US. Mother Hubbards in Tucson is número uno, but that's for a different review. I have been here about ten times now, and have practically memorized the menu now. Get anything with the green chile and you will not be disappointed. Each time I go, Gary is a magician with the spatula and gives off an air of surliness which I believe every great short order cook should have. The only reason I don't give this place 5 stars is the quality of some of their ingredients, mainly on the Huevos rancheros. The tomatoes are flavorless, so I pick them off usually. Also, the tortillas are those chewy, preservative laden patties that Coloradoans love for some reason. A real flour tortilla only has five ingredients; flour, water, salt, baking powder and fat. Other than that, if you order a cure or Dave and jerry, you will leave absolutely happy and full.

HUGE portions, very fast service. Great tasting food.

    (5)
  • John M.

Generous portion sizes. My wife & I split "The Cure" and despite sharing it, we could barely finish it (it's huge!). It was a tad spicy and very delicious. The people working there are all moving fast so I didn't feel like the wait was long.

  • Jerry N.

If you like diner style grub, this place is great. Large portions and filling food. i had the kitchen sink omellete which was really good. i would rate it higher but I'm a bit of a stickler for hygiene and having an open kitchen means you need to be extra careful about your food prep. I didnt see anyone from cooks to waitress wash their hands after handling raw meat/eggs/cash. Raw sausage was cut on the same cutting board as raw veggies. Waitress cut and buttered toast without washing hands or wearing gloves. It was quite a turnoff.

The Durango Diner is about as small town, we know you awesome that you can find. I was just visiting and they went out of their way to make sure I was welcome. You might think it's the chamber of commerce as much as they love their town - but it is indeed one heck of a locals diner - with some world famous specialties

    (4)
  • Christine P.

Huge portions. Ridiculous. And good. It gets a little warm and smoky, especially if you sit by the grill, but it's a small price to pay for a true diner experience.

Great food and prices. You get enough food on a plate for two people. Friendly staff also. I will be back tomorrow!

This was a fantastic place for breakfast the selection was so awesome, the portions were huge, more than enough food, for everyone, we loved the omelette, best French toast, the breakfast sandwiches, everything was just fantastic! Great place for breakfast in Durango, staff was superb nice, and very timely. Thanks for a wonderful breakfast to start our day.

  • Leash Y.

Good 'ol greasy spoon. I had The Cure with bacon which had green chili--amazing. Others had the Eggs Benedict, pancakes and hash browns. You will not find a better place in this world for hash browns. We had a party of 9, but I wouldn't recommend that you go with a big party since you sit at a counter and eat. We will be back since the food and waitstaff were so good!

    (5)
  • John W.

Breakfast. I hope you work outside for a living because the portion size is huge! This is an old school diner where the cook and his creations are all in plain sight. I really enjoyed watching him read the tickets, put things to memory, and proceed with the vast assortment of different orders all at once. Food and service were excellent.

After a horribly long and painful wait at another restaurant, we came to the Durango Diner. We scored VIP parking right in front of the door and we walked in to two empty seats at the end of the counter. Could it be more perfect? After having the most wonderful corned beef hash last time I was in town, that's exactly what I had to have. They don't have the corned beef hash every day, it's a special item that's not on the menu. So, before flying down to Durango, I called the Durango Diner just to make sure they'd have that wonderful corned beef hash! I have to say that it was a little disappointing. The potatoes were extremely greasy and undercooked and the corned beef was a little short on seasoning. One of my eggs also came to me broken and the yolk was cooked. It was good, I enjoyed my meal. But it fell short of the experience I had last time I was here. Was it just a long day and the cook was tired and didn't care any more? Or has this place gone downhill a bit? Who knows. I will definitely give this place another try next time I'm in town.

Came here after seeing that my good friend Patrick S. had also been here, three years ago, and like it. A true greasy spoon diner, with a really long front counter and a few tables in back. They are very friendly here, service is quick, and the food is good. I had a hotcake and could only finish half of it, it was massive. Don't come here if you don't want to spend the rest of the day smelling like bacon grease - not necessarily a bad thing, but you may attract bears when hiking in nearby Mesa Verde.

  • Juliana P.

YESSSSSSSSSSS!!! The Cure is so good we want back during our vacation. If they have it, get the steak and mushroom Cure. You'll thank me later. Trust me. Hashbrowns covered in cheese, loaded with steak and mushrooms, with two over-easy eggs (you can get any style eggs) and then THAT is covered with the best green chile I've ever had. Damn it. Now i want some but I live way too far away! This place is not fancy. This place isn't even that nice. Old tables, chairs and decorations. That's what makes it perfect though. The waitresses know the locals and treated us tourists with a warm and joking style. I will be daydreaming about you Durango Diner. Until I return again, and again, and again. PS- The Cure is certainly big enough to split. I would add a side of pancakes though. They looked damn good.

  • Monica T.

Old school greasy spoon type spot in every way. Big menu of average breakfast food served in gigantic portions by a waitress who would be much more friendly to you if you weren't an out-of-towner. The charm of these spots is usually the cheap prices, which is where the Durango Diner fails to be a usual diner. I got the chile relleno and eggs which was pretty good, but it didn't seem like they really tried on my fiance's huevos rancheros. This seems to be a place living on its reputation and/or on people nursing hangovers (water and B-vitamins, you guys! Much better for you than pounds of hashbrowns...) Next time I'm in town, I'll try somewhere else for my breakfast needs.

  • Rose P.

We had come here in the winter time when we were visiting before and decided to go again. Everything was delicious. I ordered the egg sandwich on a muffin and my husband ordered the egg with ham and hash browns. The hash browns took up half of the plate and he loved them. The people behind us ordered green chili and would not stop raving about it. Such a warm cafe feel and our waitress was on everything. Definitely recommend this place!!

    (5)
  • Vicki B.

Would you like some snot with those eggs? The waitresses there never washed their hands or wore gloves while they repeatedly took money and buttered toast for customers. One waitress was sick and continuously coughed in her hands and messed with her hair. I was really grossed out which was sad because the food looked decent.

    (2)
  • Angry B.

Awesome little diner for breakfast with a huge griddle and a bar. Big portions that are reasonably priced, friendly staff. Why would anyone go to Denny's (or its ilk) with a place like this nearby. Good stuff. By the way, try the green chili hollandaise sauce on some eggs benedict - delicious

    (4)
  • Peter L.

This is your perfect greasy spoon diner - except that the food isn't greasy, but really well-made by a cook who knows what he's doing. Old school at its best, it's got great tasting food in generous amounts with friendly service and prices.

    (5)
  • Ami P.

Their huevos rancheros are off the chain good! This diner is a real, old school diner where you sit at the counter and can re-fill your own coffee cup at their coffee station. Next time I am coming to town, I WILL be here again!

Have heard of this diner for years and finally decided to try it. It wasn't very busy and there were 3 servers on when my friend and I went in. We hadn't even sat down and a girl asked what we were drinking while walking to a table. We sat near the back. Got our drinks and then ordered. The toast came out then my friends breakfast came out then my breakfast followed. We had no silver ware to eat with. We tried to get someone's attention but I finally got up and looked for it myself and found it. By then the waitress dropped off my pancake. I ordered an over hard egg and bacon. When I cut into the egg, it was runny. I don't eat runny yokes. I ate the bacon and then started on the pancake. Our server never came to check on us once. When she finally came to drop off the check I told her my cake was not cooked. She took the plate and dropped it into the bus pan. Didn't offer to recook the cake or to take it off the bill. I have been a server for 35 years and the first thing that should have been said was do you want another one and if not offer to remove it from the bill. None of that happened. Was very disappointed in the whole experience. At least my friend like the food that was server!!

  • Dan M.

Only been here once and no plan to eat here again. I was served a pancake that was burnt. It is pretty pathetic that both the cook and the waitress thought that it was acceptable to serve a burnt pancake, as this really negatively effects the taste. I am not an overly picky eater and can't think of a time I have sent back food. I didn't send back the pancake because I didn't want to make a fuss as I was eating with some friends. Quality control that relies on people sending food back is not effective, which it seems like this place was relying on the day I was eating there.

Our favorite breakfast joint in Durango, and I mean joint. Don't go here if you want a fine dining experience or are in a hurry. You just stand around until a counter stool or one of a handful of tables opens up. I love hash browns and this place has the best. You can watch the cook grating the potatoes as you order and cooking them golden brown. I usually get eggs, browns and toast. My wife got a veggie omelet that was awesome. Tomatoes, onions, peppers, asparagus, squash and probably something else I'm forgetting. Go here if you want a great breakfast at a great price.

  • Brock E.

One word, DIVE. This place is like childhood heaven. I swear I was sitting here with my grandpa at the age of six. I cannot give it enough stars. If you are a clean freak or expect five star dining (my 5 stars is based on what it is, a dive, I believe the rating system here is a bit off) then continue on. If you want something to take you back 20 years, great pancakes, and an awesome atmosphere, come on in!

    (5)
  • Patrick S.

Mmmm-mmm Greasy Goodness. This is a dive greasy spoon diner that serves up yummy comfort food for days! This is true hangover food. Service is... well what do you expect, it's a diner. The blueberry hotcakes were really good as was all the dishes I smelled, saw and tasted. There is an item on the menu called "The Cure", this is not named after Robert Smith and Co. It is more than likely a good cure for a hangover - Fresh grilled real potato hasbrowns covered with a layer of your choice of meats or grilled veggies, then cheese, eggs and SMOTHERED Green Chile sauce. It's awesome! Enjoy

  • Brian L.

Tried half of the half-and-half, which is one bisquit, split, one covered with green chile sauce, the other with sausage gravy. Perfect bisquit, very good sausage gravy and tasty green chile sauce with just enough bite. Pretty decent coffee too.

  • Susan K.

Staff is the least friendly in town. Place is filthy dirty. Don't even try going back to the restrooms, they are gross. They only reason they got two stars is that the food is generous and pretty good for a greasy spoon. At least you can watch them cook it to make sure it doesn't touch the grimy floor.

    (2)
  • Michael E.

Awful. I had a breakfast special called "The Cure" because hey, why not, that's my favorite band. If Robert Smith ever ate that abortion on a plate he'd have pulled an Ian Curtis. I'll give the waitress credit in telling me not to order more food and that the portion would be more than enough. Most aren't good enough to do that. Besides that she was smart-alecky, she kept saying the food was "Bomb-zellic" whatever the hell that means and I really wish I ordered something, anything else. A Durango disaster.

Just sitting in this place for breakfast at the counter and taking in the feel is worth some stars. Have had several breakfasts here and everything has been fantastic. Their bacon is killer and on the loose, looking to kill it's next victim. Slowly.

Most clearly one of the best greasy spoons in the West! Plenty of local down-home dive-sque atmosphere with tasty and generous portions. You could sit there for the duration of three cups of coffee just to watch them fresh-grate the hasbrowns onto the griddle! When in Durango - stop by here!

Diner. Greasy. Dive. Perfect. This place is perfect. My only complaint is that I live 6 hours away. Of course, that is not their fault. When I do go, I get a dish called The Cure. A wonderland of breakfast on a plate, covered in green chili. This dish will take you places you've never been before. Crack on a plate. I could go on and on... The Durango Diner. Go there.

A Durango institution & always one of the first stops when back in the old stomping grounds. Classic old school greasy spoon, nothing changes here & nor should it.

The items I had were over priced and underwhelming, though my choices were limited since I'm a vegetarian (they use chicken broth in their chili sauces, so I was out of luck for most dishes). Based on items posted behind the counter, Latinos may not feel welcome here.

Read the reviews on yelp, as well as word of mouth from the locals, so me and a couple of co-workers decided to give it a try on a recent business trip to Colorado. I am so glad we did! Small hole-in-the-wall diner, but who cares...the food is good, cheap, and lots of it! "The Cure" is a must-try dish; a platter covered with their tasty hash browns (fresh, not frozen), eggs, meat of your choice, cheese, then drowned in green chili sauce. It may not be pretty, it may not be health food, but my God, it is good! Biscuits and gravy are also good (and lots of it), and everything myself and my colleagues ordered during our repeat visits was great. Be sure to bring quarters for the parking meters if you decide to park out front, and bring cash, since Durango Diner doesn't take ATM or credit. Minor inconvenience, but the food more than made up for it.

Great breakfast, reminds me of the pantry in LA. Come hungry, large portions!

A fun diner with mostly-counter seating on stools (love it!) and greasy diner food. E decided this would be just the place after I left Denver this morning at 4 am and drove 5 1/2 hours to get here. We waited a bit - two tables opened up and we could have gotten those, but silly me wanted to sit at the counter for a true diner experience. So glad I did. There's nothing quite like rubbing elbows-literally- with the locals (probably about 95% of the clientele) and having arms thrust in your face because you're sitting in front of the hot sauce and they want it...badly. E got the half and half, two biscuits smothered in both sausage gravy and their famous green chile. I got an egg sunny-side up (look at me, I'm straying farther away from scrambled!!) with a sausage patty, wheat toast, and yummy hashbrowns that I smothered in green chili. Yum. A coronary waiting to happen. It wasn't as cheap as I would have liked, but I was DEFINITELY stuffed and unable to finish. So in the end, I guess I got my money's worth. Gone are the days where a cup of coffee is 10 cents and a plate of food starts at a dollar. Although this place screams of that era, prices have gone up as times have progressed. Service was efficient, although not totally friendly. Of course, the staff was working their asses off busing, cooking, serving, and running food down the street, where they were also serving at another bar. I just found it profoundly intriguing that they cooked the food in the diner and then ran it through the pouring rain down the street. Hmmm. Only in Durango. Can't wait to live here :)

Big portions, rather eclectic menu. Everything made fresh, in front of you (if you sit at the grill). Food was pretty dang good. Pretty run down inside but clean. Don't let that scare you off.

Nice atmosphere of a locals place. Food was plentiful and tasty. I got the eggs and chile relleno plate. The relleno was very nicely crisped and tasted great! Problem was the restroom. Went in after to wash up and it was truly disgusting. It made me wonder about the cleanliness of the food.

Here is the deal on this place. GREAT breakfast and I mean GREAT. A real hash house here. But I did not give them 5 stars because they pissed me off by not telling me that they also service a bar with food down the street. So, we go in there and sit at the counter and wait 30 minutes and nothing, no food. I keep seeing orders going out the front door and find out they own a bar down the street. SO that means I am getting screwed here. I ask the waitress how long tell our orders come up and she says, 40 more minutes !!!!!!! Even though the place is not even full ????? That is BS. How about telling your customers what the hell is going on before they order and have to wait a 80 minutes to get an egg order. Rude and inconsiderate so I have to punish them with 2 star even though the food is great. On a week day it is prob not an issue.

If you have to go anywhere within 2 hours..you might look elsewhere. Main seating is at bar in front of grill, so you watch them make your food, which I always think is pretty cool (and they make hash browns from scratch)..food is good, but wait time and terrible service are hard to look past. They sell their green chili, and it was pretty tasty, but hard to say anything good after waiting for an hour for lousy service

This place is the ultimate hash slingin' house and we loved it. We stopped in while driving through town with our 9 month old son who's eyes popped out when we say the pancake that he was served. It was like a manhole cover in front of him and he was in heaven. My omelet was outstanding and the coffee just doesn't get any better that at this place. We were seated in one of the few tables in the back the waitress was all over us whenever we needed anything. GREAT service! The only thing I would change is the fact that most of the seats are at the counter. They need more tables but then again there is not enough room, I know, I know! Great food with very good service. Good stop!

Excellent breakfast. The staff was real friendly and made ordering simple with good suggestions. The portions were generous and absolutely full of great flavor. A must try when in Durango.

We spent a week in Durango, found this diner and went there for breakfast everyday. We were treated like regulars on our second visit. We were welcomed by name, 2 hot coffees, a pen for the crossword and excellent diner breakfasts. The bacon is awesome!

Ga-reassy spoon - and I like it! Long and narrow, packed, basic diner fare done well. Read the paper with a cuppa joe and eat your eggs and bacon. yum!

This is what you want a diner to be! We had breakfast, my wife & I had the "cure", our son eggs benedict. Both were excellent! Huge portions! The green chile sauce was awesome. The service was great. This is the proverbial hole in the wall. Try it you won't be disappointed!!

The perfect diner -- we readily got a pair of seats at the counter. Service was quick, good steady coffee fill ups. The Huevos w/green chile was awesome and would have been a huge breakfast by itself, but it came w/ a side of fresh perfect hash browns - delicious! My son ordered eggs and has browns that were basic, but pretty good. Definitely go for the huevos w/green! A great value also.

Stopped here mid-week during my recent Colorado trip, and I'm glad I did... talk about a hole in the wall! Literally, if you blink, you could miss it, and you might be sorry you did. This place offers mostly standard diner fare, with a few southwestern twists. Needing a hearty breakfast, I ordered the huevos rancheros, and there was more food than I could eat. My honey stuck with a plain cheese omelet, which was good & plentiful, but I could tell he had food envy. (grin) The coffee was better than most places, and the server kept our cups full. I definitely would come back if in the area again. Good prices, good food, and significantly better than anything the ski resort has to offer just a few miles up the road!

I love the Durango Diner. The food is soooo good. A few days ago I went there and had one blueberry pancake. It was as big and thicker than the plate itself. This has been my first time in Durango and I was very impressed by the diner. The wait staff is great and the chef makes amazing food. I would defiantly recommend the Durango Diner.
