My wife and I just had lunch here and the service was impeccable the food was very fresh and full of flavor. The decor was awesome and definitely the best looking restaurant in all of Durango in fact we are going back for dinner.

Excellent dinner! The hubs & I were a bit unsure as we read the reviews. It is definitely at least a 4 star. Service was a bit slow to start off, but our girl Roslyn was kind & knew the menu. Started off with the grilled artichoke. Large portion, butter & aioli sauces were excellent! Hubs had the grilled poblano. It was perfectly grilled with a sesame seed crust, stuffed with corn meal, corn, cheese & kale? It was sitting on saffron rice & black beans. Nice heat & flavor. The kale salad cooled the palate with crispy sweet apple with tangy vinaigrette. I had the fish tacos. Very good flavor with the kale salad coleslaw which gave a sweet kick to otherwise spicy tacos. The tortillas were grilled which is nice touch to keep the tacos together. I did remove the jalapeños on the 2nd taco to better enjoy the flavors. The fish was a bit dry, but expected since I was told it is baked in the stone oven. Chipotle sauce helped with dryness. Give it a try!

The food was DELICIOUS! I had the southwest salads high was PACKED with nutrients and flavor. and my husband had the steak tacos. We started off with the pork nachos, which were so flavorful. The ONLY thing that lacked was the lack of service, the waitress seemed stretched thin but was very friendly and helpful when we caught her in passing. The decor was modern yet cozy. Reasonable prices at lunch...

The food here is absolutely fantastic gourmet caliber! If you are just visiting or live here I would highly recommend you give it a try. You will NOT be disappointed!

Seems like I only review places when I absolutely love them. If there were more stars I would give them to this place. The food options are UNREAL! We've been here 4 times and order different food every time. Every meal was amazing! If you need a gluten free recommendation.... Get the risotto cakes. They will blow your mind!

After a day of brewery hopping it was time to end the day with a nice dinner and after passing Chimayo a few times we thought we would stop in for dinner. For it being Valentines day we definitely thought it was going to be a long wait but surprisingly we were sat right away. The menu here was a tad bit weird offering everything from Southwest cuisine to Pizzas but surprisingly the food was really good. We had the Guacamole as an appetizer here and it was really good some of the best guac I have had in a while. For dinner I went with the salami and sausage pizza which was also really good. The sauce was tasty and the dough was cooked perfectly. Then lastly the Moscow mules here are also really good one of the best Moscow mules I have had. If you are in Durango I highly suggest this place. I would of rated a perfect rating but felt the prices were a tad bit high the tab was a bit over $100 for 2 people for 2 meals, an appetizer and a few drinks.

I'm back on another southwestern Colorado adventure, seeking out the best restaurants and on a mission for the best food. I have to say, Chimayo was a big disappointment. We started out with olives and focaccia, which was tasty, but it could have used a few more pieces of bread. For our round of entrees, I had the salmon. It was over cooked and dry. The orzo was bland and under seasoned. The beans, yet well cooked and tasty, we're slathered in butter. The only thing I really liked about my dinner was the citrus sauce and the seasoning on the salmon. It's just a shame it was so over cooked and it was a pretty small piece of fish for the price of the meal. The rest of my party had the bacon wrapped meatloaf, the mac n' cheese and the pork loin in rhubarb sauce. All of the dishes were lacking in one thing or another. The meatloaf was dry and over cooked. The Mac n' cheese was completely mealy, bland and probably the worst dish on the table. The pork, although well cooked and moist, didn't have much sauce and the sauce that was on the plate didn't taste like rhubarb. The drinks were good. They weren't spectacular, but they were good. The service was extremely slow. Our waitress was nice, but she didn't seem to be on top of her game. It took an extremely long time for drinks to get out to us. I'm not sure if it was the watress being slow or the bar being backed up, but it was painfully slow at times. We had the strawberry rhubarb crumble and the banana tart for desert and they were brought out with no silverware. She said she would be right back with some and as my ice cream is melting all over my plate, she stopped to take pictures and gossip with another table. I have to be honest, that was just flat out rude and pissed me off. We sat there at least a few more minutes, in which my ice cream completely melted before she came back with silverware. On the bright side, the deserts were very good! Unfortunately, the disappointment did not end when we walked away. The waitress boxed up the rest of the olives for my sister. When we got in the car, we noticed the hard way that the waitress filled a styrofoam, unsealed to-go box with olive oil. It spilled all over the car and ruined my sister's dress with a slight tilt of the box as we were getting in the car. Who puts that much liquid in a container that doesn't seal tightly? We all scrambled to clean up the car and drove home with nothing but complaints about the whole dinner. I'm sorry to write such a terrible review of what has the potential to be a great place, but I honestly feel like I wasted calories on eating that food and my family wasted good money on a terrible dinner. I really hope Chimayo can get their act together.

Great drinks! Menu looked super delicious too, we stopped by for drinks on our way to a dinner reservation. Atmosphere was upbeat and lively. Recommended.

The atmosphere and the service were great. The food was just fine, however, very overpriced. I got a 6 oz flat iron steak for $28.00, served with a basic potato medley and some green beans. Just down the street, you can get an 8 oz steak for $19.95, with a more imaginative preparation. A lot of the food is locally sourced and they are obviously working with fresh, seasonal ingredients, I just think there could be a middle ground here. I wish it was affordable enough to become a regular suggestion when we go out!

Ate at Chimayo for Sunday brunch with out of town guests. Thank God we told them we hadn't eaten there before..we just chose it because it was one of the few restaurants open in the noon hour On Sunday. We were seated quickly in the half empty restaurant; that was the last timely event for this brunch. We waited for a half hour for drinks-nothing tough-3 beers and two iced teas. We ordered pork tacos and Chimayo Huevos. Pitiful. The tacos were two small corn tortillas with abit of shredded pork and cabbage. We waited loooong time for this overpriced food. Never will eat here again...poor service and scrawny servings.

I have always loved this restaurant from day 1. I eat here all the time. It has never been that busy - it's kind of a fall back place when you can't get into the super popular places. You can always get a table - at the very least at the bar. Lately it has been more busy and I can't help noticing that the customer service has tanked. It's like they're mad they're busy. I thought the first time was a fluke but the second time we were here on a really busy day the wait staff was literally rolling their eyes at requests that they easily honored on a slow day. Too many restaurants in Durango to spend hard earned money on great food but be treated like crap. This could possibly be my last meal here.

Broad selection of fresh and creatively prepared dishes. Craft beer selection was impressive. Prices very reasonable considering the high quality of the food!

This is the 2nd time we have eaten at Chimayo. The first time was average so we decided to give it another chance. I ordered the soup and salad combo and for a $2.00 up charge I asked for the French Onion Soup being that I am a huge fan of this soup! The salad was hearty, tasty and done right. I will say if I return that I wouldn't pay the up charge for the french onion though. The reason I state this is because it actually reminded me of the french onion you get at panera which is basic and less than desirable. The soup lacked a lot but the salad made up for it. Unfortunately the wait staff that was servicing our table was less than satisfactory as well. She only visited the table 3 times. Once for the drinks and order, once to bring the food and once to bring the bill. We waited on drinks and really never got them. I doubt I would go back here if given the choice.

The menu is limited but has something for everyone (except maybe kids). Very vegetarian friendly. I ordered the stuffed poblano chile. Omg sooo good. My husband had a steak and loved it. The iced tea was amazing. And we also had dessert. Also delicious. May be a touch on the pricey side but worth it. $70 for 2 adults including drinks & dessert isn't horrible. I would definitely go again.

As soon as we walked in, the hostess asked how many and we asked for a booth. There was plenty of booths available. She refused to seat us at a booth so we took the table. After the meal I talked with the manager on duty an she argued with me why we couldn't have booth when now half her restaurant was empty! She offered no good reason why the hostess refused to seat us at a booth. But if you like horrible service but good food try it!

Gave this place a chance since the Irish Embassy Pub was only serving brunch and my parents and I were ready for lunch! We were seated promptly, given menus, and served a pitcher of water for the table. My dad ordered the Machaca scramble, my mom had the steak tacos, and I ordered the pork street tacos. The food took quite awhile to come out, to the point where we were going to flag down our waitress and ask what was going on. But just as we were going to do this she came with the food :) I LOVED the pork tacos. The plate comes with two of them that are STUFFED with delicious, spicy meat. Topped with fresh avocado and pico de gallo and only a tiny bit of cheese = PERFECTION. On the side they give you a delicious mixed kale salad/slaw. I was so ecstatically happy with my order that I scarfed it down in minutes. The steak tacos are a favorite of my mom's so there were no problems there. The meat was tasty and the side salad was fresh. My dad enjoyed his scramble but said the eggs were a bit undercooked in some parts which gave them a weird texture. The interior of the restaurant is chill but also classy looking which I enjoyed. There were so many great options on the menu that I'm definitely looking forward to coming back here again!

Terrible. What a horrible experience. I do not recommend this place. Walked in at 9:15 on a Friday night and was skeptical as the reviews aren't that great but thought I'd give it a try. Take this in to consideration: It wasn't even busy for a Friday. We were greeted by the host right away and she sat us in the bar are at a high top after giving us an eye roll when asking us where we wanted to sit. We sat for 20 mins and were never greeted again, no waitress/waitor..NO ONE came by our table to take a drink/food order. Several waiters walked right by our table after serving food right next to our table. It made us so uncomfortable that we got up and left. I don't even need to say any more. Absolutely terrible. I will never return. Ever.

4.65 stars. Great service, great food which came out very quickly. The cornbread was very tasty, the eggs florentine was tasty, kale was cooked perfectly.

  • Terri C.

I just ate, what might possibly have been, the best breakfast of my 57 year old life!! That means I have had quite a few:) I had the eggs florentine. The eggs were oven baked on homemade sausage. Underneath that was spinach, kale and mushrooms that had been perfectly sautéed! The kale was tender but still had that wonderful nutty crunch. Paired alongside this was no ordinary Caesar salad. Something in it was special, but delicate. My only regret is I live about 300 miles away from this nirvana---I have traveled to Durango for the last 35 years and this will now become my #1 favorite place to eat when in town!!!!

We had the Mussels and Roasted Brussels. Both were very good. Our service was excellent at the Bar. I will be back!

We were just shopping our way thru Durango and decided to break for lunch. Chimayo caught our eye, and after a few things on the outdoor menu caught our eye we decided to venture in. Comfortable and tastefully modern design without looking like they tried too hard. Our server was pleasant and helpful. We had Mahi Tacos, the BLTA Pizzetta, the Margherita Pizzetta, and the Mac and Cheese. Portions were generous and the food was excellent! We wish this restaurant was in our home town of Prescott Arizona so we could return more often.

Looks so nice from the street- saw a $14 personal margherita pizza- mmmm fresh mozzarella, sliced tomato, fresh picked basil leaves, maybe some balsamic - NO! This was a cheese pizza. A $14 personal cheese pizza

  • Jake Y.

The food might have been good. Never got the chance to eat because the servers were more interested in keeping the returning customers happy than taking any orders from new ones. Took 15 min. to get one beer and three waters. The couple next to us was able to order drinks twice and food before us even though the arrived 5-10 min. after us.

  • Marita N.

I loved the pork street tacos! The decor was very hip. The service was good.

    (4)
  • Sarah L.

Customer service was REALLY lacking at this establishment. We chose to sit at the bar since there was a 15 minute wait for the dining room, but in those 15 mins we had to get our own menus from the hostess AND we saw another couple come in and sit at the bar next to us and be asked twice for their drink order and were able to get their drinks and order food in the time we got 3 waters and a beer.

    (1)
  • Sara J.

Made a reservation for 8 people to sit by the window and when we got here our table was all set but when we told them that we only had 7 people they switched our tables for to the middle of the restaurant. When we switched back to by the window the hostess told us that reservations arent guaranteed.... Well then why make a reservation? Overall disappointed in the way we were treated for a first impression. Wont spend that kind of money there any time soon.

Hubby and I wanted an early dinner upon our arrival in Durango, and this was one of a few restaurants that was open that didn't seem too touristy. The service was excellent, but there were very few patrons in the restaurant at the time. Sean, our server, was prompt and friendly, and very helpful in providing hubby suggestions for beers. Hubby ordered the beef tacos and he said they were definitely good. I ordered the poblano cheddar burger, which was very juicy and tasty. The happy hour Cabernet Sauvignon was mediocre, but the price was right.

If I lived here this would be one of my favorite restaurants! We had brunch on a Sunday and it was fantastic! We asked for ranch dressing or Blue cheese and they don't have them which I love because it makes me try something different! They offered instead their creamy cilantro; can I bottle it and take it home?? Service was great and atmosphere was comfortable and stylish!

What a great place for food and ambience. We met one of the owners' and she said they change the specials every two weeks depending what is in season. We lucked out and ordered the House made sausage pistachio pizza and the roasted artichoke with lemon butter, garlic aioli......it was so delicious. The wine menu is very reasonable....my suggestion is get a bottle the price point is a better deal and you can take it home what you do not drink. The food price is on the expensive side....out special pizza was 18.5 it feed two only and that fabulous roasted artichoke was 8.5 and that was a great deal because that fed 4. Service....was great. I know when we came in it was an off night.....at 1st our waitress was really stressed both owners were out serving drinks and food... but our waitress was awesome even with a broken elbow and the hostesses was so sweet answered all our questions. Would I come here again? Absolutely. It's expensive because the specialty pizza's are small but they are fabulous and delicious. The wine selection in my opinion are very reasonable and what you don't drink you can take home. The roasted artichoke was awesome...even my 12 year ate it. ' I am a huge Yelper...I read the reviews what we had was absolutely delicious and yes, it was a little on the expensive side but I wanted to tried a local place with a menu that would be unique. Bravo!!!

Three of us had brunch there today. We had steak and eggs, salmon hash and eggs, southwestern chicken soup, and the skillet corn bread. All were excellent. Waitress was good. I did not give it 5 stars only because i thought the drinks were over-priced.

    (4)
  • Stuaryo R.

Went there on a Saturday and and was very pleased. 4 stars because it was expensive. I got carne asada ($28) which was cooked perfectly but still on the expensive end. My fiancée ordered a fancy pizza ($18) which had a medium thickness crust and was delicious. The food was great but just be prepared to pay a bit more than you would normally.. but being Durango is a tourist area, its a great choice.

I'm trying to figure out why every new restaurant in "tourist" towns thinks they have to "gussie up" their menus with all sorts of "new" stuff. Why can't restaurants just serve good food at a decent price? My friend and I tried this restaurant last night and, although the service was decent and the decor is lovely, the atmosphere was ruined by a young lady across the room who tried to cackle rather than laugh ladyike. My friend ordered the beef enchiladas, and she said they were good - BUT where was a side - like a salad? $18 for that dinner with no side is ridiculous. I had the steak sandwich, which ended up eating only the steak with a knife and fork, as the ciabatta bun was too tough to bite into. The accompanying "salad" was not a salad--it was a small pile of "exotic" greens on the plate with a very small amount of dressing. AND,, whe are restaurants going to learn that not everyone likes "yuppie" iced tea? I want just regular, brewed, pekoe tea--not rasberry tea, not peach tea, not a "mixed fruit flavored" tea - I want PLAIN old ordinary iced tea.. If these new restaurants are going to offer iced tea, they should at least have plain iced tea for those of us who don'tl ike the flavored stuff. The creme brulee was good, but not spectacular; I've had better several times. And not worth the price. A steak sandwich, diet Coke, and creme brulee set me back $30.00---it wasn't worth it. The selections on the menu are eclectic and "nouvelle cuisine" and aren't meant for those of us who like plain food or food not gimmicked up. I won't go back.

Our first trip to Durango and we had no idea where to eat. Came across Chimayo on Main Street and like the way it looked, very clean, modern decor. The food was absolutely awesome! Their pizzas are to die for, especially the mushroom, carmelized onion one. We ate at several other places, but came back to Chimayo several times - wonderful food, helpful and courteous wait staff, great atmosphere.

Our last evening in Durango we decided to stroll Main Ave and find a restaurant we hadn't tried yet. We chose Chimayo because we were both in the mood for a salad (having had the Serious Texas Barbecue for lunch!). We had to wait ten minutes at the bar for a table at 7:00 which is pretty prime dining time in town. The bartender was nice, not overly chummy and very busy. We had our craft beers within minutes. Our table was corner front at the open window. Nice. My signature Southwest Chopped Kale Salad with chicken was a little pricey at $17 but it was one of the best salads I've ever had. I gave portions to my dinner partner along with half the chicken breast. My partner tried the seasonal special--a local peach salad with candied pecans, butter lettuce and Brie wedges--for $12.50. Also very good. Our waiter, Anna, was attentive and friendly, ready to make suggestions. We enjoyed the place, liked the decor (even the "garage door") and will definitely be back.

We went back tonight to celebrate a birthday. 4 top. Excellent wait staff & Mike chef/owner frequented our table twice. Had the chef recommend apps of cauliflower steak and the Brussels sprouts. Both excellent choices. Wonderful flavor and the temp was great. Entrees were the special which was also good. My steak was more med well than med rare but tender and flavorful no complaints. Will go back again

This is my third visit to Chimayo 8/3/13. I love the decor and the open air atmosphere, very tastefully done. I cannot stop ordering the grilled brussel sprout appetizer with cranberries and almonds. This time, I tried the crab cake and can truthfully say it was the best I have ever eaten, nicely presented with a light salad. We eat out at least 5 nights a week and it is refreshing that the food at the Kitchen is not 'ordinary', but also incredibly delicious. The staff were gracious and friendly, attentive and not overbearing. We had two young boys with us who were exhausted and starving from their day on the train. The waiter went out of his way to get them milk and bread before they wilted, then the wonderful mac and cheese. The price is fair considering the quality of the food, service and atmosphere. I plan to return often and bring our out of town guests.

  • Lea-Ann E.

I thought this place was great! We are more times than not disappointed in the lack of service this town provides. Ken and Sues and now Chimayo are on our go to list. The decor is great, our server Trevor was top notch, and the prices very fair. Will definitely be back as this place has restored my faith in finding good service in Durango.

  • Matt H.

No. Senselessly over-priced and small portions of above average bar food. Idiotic seating policy for happy hour. All the ambiance of an IKEA display kitchen with a garage door. No.

    (1)
  • Rick H.

Excellent. We started with the cream corn soup, and it was loaded with flavor. I wished the temperature of the soup was a little warmer, but it was incredible. I had the salmon and it was fantastic. The rice was a little boring, but not bad. My wife had the margarita pizza with extra cheese, and it was freaking amazing. They are just shy of a 5 star review, and I look forward on coming back here next year.

  • Axe H.

The folks who own this place are more than restauranteurs, they're artists. The food is great and the signature chopped salad is the best one I've ever had !

Fantastic fish tacos and steak. Nicer decor for Durango but not so fancy you feel you cant wear jeans and a fleece. Chocolate cake okay. Creme Brulee great. They close at 9 on week days so go before 8:30 so you get better service.

    (4)
  • Eric H.

Pretty good selection, however they fail to deliver the quality you expect for the price you pay. Salmon was delivered raw and had to be sent back and still came back raw. Much better selections in town in the same price range.

  • Cheryl S.

We have lived here for 6 years, eating in town every week at one of our many amazing restaurants and Chimayo's is at the top of our list. We really like how they change their menu frequently as well as make it gluten free friendly. All the staff is excellent and they have very low employee turn-over. That tells us that the owners must treat them with respect and dignity. Thanks for a wonderful foodie experience "always".

    (5)
  • Alison D.

Good (not great) food, VERY overpriced. I like creative, innovative food and don't mind paying for it, but this is poorly executed. I had the house salad and their signature pulled pork pizza. Meh. Both fine, neither memorable or something I care to repeat. Bill was $25 without tip. Price:quality ratio not competitive with other restaurants in the area. Service was good, must acknowledge that, but I won't come back.

    (2)
  • Megan N.

The bartender Jason made my drink special after I asked since I don't like mint and it was delicious. I ordered the special pizza with housemade sausage, roasted cauliflower and pistachios, what a genius the chef was. Will definitely come back my next trip Durango.

  • Steve P.

Excellent brick oven pizza. The "warm roasted vegetables" salad was fresh, tasty and large enough for two people. The salad plus the pizza was more than enough for the two of us. That plus a couple of beers (me) and two glasses of wine (my wife) and we were two very satisfied customers. I highly recommend this place.

    (4)
  • Ezmerelda S.

Great specialty pizza and salad. But, since when is a bottle of wine supposed to serve 5? I was always told it serves 4. In that regard skimpy.

    (3)
  • Rob K.

The stuffed shrooms appetizer was really good. The rest of the food was just so so. My wife had a mushroom pizza and I had a crab cake that were okay. Our kids had soup that was too spicy for them to eat. We had bread and were surprised to be billed $3 for each serving. In fact the bill had several surprises, which were disappointing. All in all a disappointing meal that cost too much for the value received. The server was nice, though.

  • Brad R.

My father and I swung by Chimayo for a light dinner and cocktails after arriving in Durango. We were impressed enough that we went back the next day for a full dinner. The chef and owner gave us a sample of a few items which were all excellent, but we both settled on the jalapeno bacon wrapped sirloin for dinner, which was one of the best steak I've had at a restaurant in years. We also tried a few of the house martinis, all of which were excellent. The entire staff was incredibly friendly and I hope my travels lead me back to Durango for another dining experience at Chimayo.

  • Rob H.

The location and decor are fantastic. One of the best in Durango. The staff is above average for this town. The food is below average for the price. This was my third time here and I have to say my excitement over a new high end restaurant in town combined with the great modern decor plus no wait to get seated has finally worn off. The food is average... which is par for Durango but at the prices they charge not acceptable. Ken and Sue's, Cosmopolitan, and Seasons are all in this tier and have much better food. I would pick Chimayo if town was super busy or I wanted drinks and apps only.

The Brussel sprouts are amazing! Ok.they are half eaten in the photo, but I will return for them again. They are deliciously roasted with bacon, cranberries, and slivered almonds. Ron, our server was excellent.

We were a little hesitant to try this restaurant, considering it only received 3 stars, but considering it was Friday evening and other places were filling up quickly, we thought we'd give it a try! My husband and I were both pleasantly surprised! My husband had the chicken mushroom enchiladas with mole sauce and I had the San Danielle pizza. Must say both were very good, as we shared each other's meal. Our waitress Kelsey did a great job with her pleasant demeanor and attentiveness. As to the price of our meals, I don't think $52 before tip, which included one drink each, is all that bad for the quality of food and ambience. If we're ever in Durango again, I wouldn't hesitate to visit this restaurant again!

While visiting "beautiful" Durango, CO from Houston, TX - my family & I had a chance to eat dinner at this restaurant. At 1st. like any other tourist I checked them out on Yelp for rating(only 3stars) BUT -the restaurant was FULL of people enjoying there meal!!! So we decided to go in & try. So so glad that we did - food was "AWESOME". My kids even loved it :-)))) Not only FOOD/drink & delicious desserts......Service was great too!!!! It's definitely a must try restaurant!!!! Delicious....yum!

I would be giving this review 4 or 5 stars if it weren't for our waitress, Shari. This is the second time I have had her and am thoroughly unimpressed. She had an attitude from the beginning and wouldn't even do separate checks for our party of 6. She used the excuse that it was so busy because of spring break when clearly it was not busy during the time we were there. If she is there next time I will ask for a different waiter/waitress. All in our party felt the same way.

One of the better meals I've had in Durango. The cedar plank salmon was amazing, and the bartender (Chuck) made a fantastic margarita. The servers all use an iPod touch to take your order which is great and will probably save time once everyone gets used to the software, but in our case it may have actually slowed down the process. They had only been open for a few weeks when I was there, so I'm assuming everyone is used to it by now and things have started to speed up. Overall a great experience.

We only had time for a drink and an app. We were pleasantly surprised with the creative cocktails on the menu. I had the ginger martini and it was out of this world. Nice atmosphere and very friendly staff.

My husband and I visit Durango every couple of years and have enjoyed several good restaurants there, but dinner last night at Chimayo out shined them all. We could tell the restaurant is popular from, the sidewalk as we looked in and saw a pleasant buzz of business. We were greeted as we entered and chose to go to the bar to enjoy a drink. I had a perfectly made Blueberry Lemon Drop martini. Antioxidents and vodka, does it get any better? We moved to a table by the roll up windows and it was lovely to sit and enjoy our dinner as we people watched both inside and outside the restaurant. The food was the best we have had in Durango. We started with the Queso Fundido appetizer and it was delicious. I thought about ordering another one for my entree, but chose the pesto shrimp linguini and my husband ordered a pizza. Both were cooked to perfection and exceeded our expectations. Our server was friendly and attentive. She made us feel welcome and appreciated, even though the restaurant was very busy, she took her time answering our questions about the many entrees that we were interested in. Chimayo is our new favorite restaurant in Durango, so good in fact that we returned a few days later for another fantastic evening of great food, drinks and service.

Had one of the BEST MEALS of MY LIFE here!!! Get the cedar plank salmon- it's worth every penny. And the pizzas are AMAZING!!! The roasted vegetable with balsamic glaze was delicious and the crust was perfect. Great drinks to boot- the acai martini was life-changing. The salads are also very fresh. YUM!!!!!

During a trip to Durango for a birthday we went around town and this restaurant had seating on a Saturday night which was hard to find. We st down and were severed water in a large corkable bottle which lent to the atmosphere and ambience. We looked at the menu which had a good variety. We each ordered the steak Sandwich dinner mine with the potatoe wedges and my girlfriend with the salad. The sandwiches were great full of flavor but the wedges were very spicy (and not called out as such in the menu). A desert of Creme Brulee finished out the meal rather nicely. When we return this place will be one of our first stops.

Ok, tonight was meal number 8 at Chimayo and all I can say is the food is great, the service is attentive and spot on and the vibe is really wonderful. The very fact that the owners are there and on the line cooking is a testament to their commitment serving their customers. For me as a food professional and retired chef I can say this is a rare thing these days. The current trend of running a restaurant by having a manager run the operation is not doing a service to the customer. The menu is limited but top notch, that's the key.

We've always left Chimayo full and happy, and continue to go back for the wide selection on the menu and the nice atmosphere (get a seat up front by the garage door windows). I've tried quite a few of the entrees and never been disappointed with my meal. Have had off service here and there (a drink order that didn't arrive until our appetizers were already out, a waitress who was sullen and didn't crack a smile the entire night) but overall I think it's one of the better places for a dinner out or a get together with friends.

Classy ambiance, good food and service... a great choice even if you're not feeling like pizza. I sampled the guac, Brussels sprouts, cold coconut crab soup, a peach salad and the Margherita pizza. Not a fan of their take on Margherita pizza, but everything else was great.

Not really sure how to rate this restaurant. We moved to Durango recently and we got a gift certificate from our realtor to Chimayo. We arrived around 5:50 pm, very few people in the place so the hostess asked us where we might like to sit. Because the sun was very bright at the front tables, we just said anywhere, just not in the glare. She politely seated us and gave us our menus, along with the special happy hour menu, and stated that we just made it in time for happy hour if we wanted a drink or one of the happy hour appetizers. Our waiter came by about 5-10 minutes later and when we tried to order, he rudely said that we were seated outside of the happy hour section, which is only the bar and the front tables, and besides that, we were two minutes late. I explained that the restaurant is almost empty, we were seated where we were by the hostess who told us it was happy hour and gave us the menu, and if we seemed to be two minutes late, it's because he was late getting to our table. He continued to argue that it was the rule, but said he would do us a special favor of honoring the happy hour menu if we wished to order anything from it. We ordered one beer and one appetizer, which was discounted a grand total of $4 off the regular prices. We also ordered our entrees of chicken and mushroom enchiladas and a hangar steak. The food was really good, and when the waiter stopped by, I told him so, and that although we got off to a rough start, maybe we could start over on our meeting. Got the check, paid it along with my usual 20-25% gratuity. As we were leaving the hostess apologized for her mistake in seating us outside the happy hour section. We told her it was no big deal, and that's when our rude, pushy waiter had to interject himself into the conversation telling us that a happy hour from 3-6 is very generous and how he did us a big favor by making not one but two exceptions for us, at which Pointedly told him to just shut up. So to the owner and manager, the food is good, you are killing it though with rude waitstaff, and a stupid rule regarding happy hour at only a few tables. Again, we are talking a total discount of $4 for us. Is that really worth it?

One of the best breakfast places in Durango! Great breakfast specials and I love their beer choices. The Raspberry beer was amazing. Even better mixed with a Mimosa! I will back next time Im in town.

I'm torn between a 3* and 4* so my companions on this dinner adventure are boosting this to a 4. We were quickly seated in a large booth, perfect for me. The decor was very nice and Southwestern style. Pros: good food, large portions, friendly waitstaff Cons: waitress couldn't get order straight, had to repeat three times, before finally just writing it down. When DH, who can't eat spicy food, asked for a sub for the potato side, they charged him $7 for mushrooms, uncool in my book. Finally, prices were a bit high and the menu was a bit .... Odd in choices. I like it, but I wouldn't necessary come back - we also went elsewhere for dessert.

I am surprised to see all the bad reviews of Chimayo. I have eaten there three times and have really enjoyed the food every time, granted I've only had the pizza and some appetizers. I do agree that it is a bit overpriced but I think a lot of restaurants in Durango are over priced. I like the atmosphere at Chimayo and I have always had very good service. One major complaint I had the last time I went there was that I don't think they had a kids menu so buying a meal for the kids was hard (and expensive!) since my kids of course always want something different!

Great ambiance, service, food & presentation! I am not sure why the harsh reviews here. Probably because they are the new kid in town....BUT....they are here to stay, I think!! I had the flank steak -- mmmm, mmm, delish! I assume the reviews I read aren't hurting this placed...they were packed on a Friday night during a slow time in town! Chin up Chimayo - you guys are doing a great job!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque.
