After emailing the manager at DRB and sharing my experience, my husband and I were treated to the kind of meal I had gotten used to at this restaurant. After placing our orders, our food came out in reasonable time, the staff were far friendlier and helpful, and the food was wonderful. The quick response from the manager and attention to customer service tells me that these are folks who really care about what they do, and will do what they can to give their customers a satisfying gustatory experience. Thank you DRB for delivering a fantastic dining experience.

I have been coming to this place since it opened. I really appreciate their selection of pizzas, a world of difference from any chain pizza store. (Personally, I detest typical pizzas flooded with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese.) They have their marinara pizzas as well as olive oil based ones. I had the "Chevy," which had a variety of vegetables including sun dried tomatoes and some bacon and goat cheese; the crust on the pizza complimented its toppings, so fresh. I have also had their Caesar salads, which are good. Even if you don't like pizza, you'll find something good. They used to brew their own root beer, which I liked. Everyone who drinks it says their beer is good. (I hate beer.) As for the atmosphere, it's very friendly; the people are nice. For refills, you have to go to the bar, because they don't have a wait staff, but that's fine by me. It's my place of choice when dining out in Dolores and also my favorite pizza.

This place is a gem. Passing through Dolores after six hours of offroading in the San Juan's I had a truck full of hungry girls. Before going nearly anywhere I check yelp reviews and found this place just a couple miles away. I am quite glad we did. I cannot speak to the micro brews as I do not have a drink and drive after, but the pizza, WOW! There are not words strong enough to describe how tasty it was. Like pizza toppings on a cracker. We will be back again and again and again on our trips up here. If you're in the area you should give it a shot.

I keep stopping here because I like the pizzas, but the service is horrific. So bad that Gordon Ramsey would probably burn the place down. If it looks busy don't bother. Unless you got a few hours to spare. And love standing in line. In fact, the only reason I joined yelp was to bitch about the service. The pizzas are good for a place in the middle of nowhere, but don't let the other reviewers fool you. You'd get knifed in NYC for calling this pizza.

Fantastic find driving across southern CO. Great pizzas with a great combo of familiar and not-so-familiar ingredients. We were completely satisfied with both the Margharita (which comes with real pesto added on top) and the Hawaiian (which is made superb with local chipotle peppers). The beers were fantastic, we tried the ESB and Pale Ale. In short, we are headed back tomorrow.

We dined with a party of six. The dining room was busy and loud. That makes conversation difficult. Sitting outside would have meant dealing with flies. Our pizzas and appetizers were ordered and then we waited. Pizzas came out and appetizers never did. But, the pizza is very good and the beer good, too. We will try it again at a future date.

Really good pizza! Very welcoming staff, gave us samples of everything. Decided to order a couple pizzas, both were amazing. We liked the beer selection but decided on IPA and a seasonal, delish! Well worth a stop if you're within 50 to 75 miles!

Not memorable. I travel around the country quite a bit, sampling brewpubs along the way. We were staying in Cortez CO. And after reading the reviews, I decided to try Delores River. The place has a really nice look to it, and a busy local vibe going on. The outside patio is nice, and is semi dog friendly, there is a little pen area where you can tie them up while you sit on the patio. There is also a nice stage area for live music. I cannot comment on the food, but they have a nice menu which seems to focus on wood fired pizza which looked good. Now we come to the beer, which is why I was there. It was just ordinary, nothing special, not bad, but not worth the 10 mile drive out to Delores.

What a great local's gathering spot this place seems to be. We camped in the area for a few days and had been lucky enough to grab a four pack of Dolores River Brewery stout at the liquor store on our way through town. Delicious, toasty, smooth yet light! Two nights later we were jonesin for pizza and found that besides brewing beer the actual brewery also does excellent pizza. We tried the Snaggletooth double pale, the ESB, and more Stout. Guacamole (fresh, but on the small side, and I don't prefer tomatoes in my guac), Caesar salad with chicken, and a sausage and eggplant pizza. All was fresh and tasty. Service was fast and friendly (order at the bar) and some locals our age chatted us up on the back patio and told us how much they love this area and all the fun stuff that goes on all summer. We didn't need any convincing, we will be back for sure, and definitely make a stop at DRB.

This unassuming little brewery is one of the most well-run establishments I have ever had the good fortune to walk into. All the employees (along with the patrons) are very friendly and engaging. We had two servers (a tall funny man and a sharp young lady) who were very knowledge about the beers and the food (the man explained "dry hopping" to me after over hearing me say I could "literally smell the hops in my beer"). It can be a challenge to train and instill such great customer service but the employees, and owner by extension, make creating such a comfortable and enjoyable environment seem easy. Their beers are the definition of fresh. Dolores River Brewery should be a designated stop for anyone traveling within fifty miles of Dolores itself. It truly has no equal.

I had a great 'weizen and some pizza on a Sunday night, and I have to say I'm very impressed. The environment is very inviting as a local venue, but also has a cool pub feeling. A friend of mine said the live music was great last week. Coming from Chicago, I have a specific idea of what pizza should be. DRB really nails their pizza -- there are some really fresh ingredients on that pizza (feel the crunch of the vegetables!). I will definitely be going back there again when I visit Dolores next season.

Stopped in here on the way to Utah for a quick bite to eat and a couple drinks. Upon pulling up in front of the brewery, I was left wondering if it was still in business as it looked pretty dull from the outside. Upon walking in, we were greeted by our friendly bar tender who was very educated about both the menu and the beers. We chose to sit at the bar as it was a nice cozy little bar that was quite charming. The bar tender offered us a couple of samples before we ordered our beer and really all of them were good. I had one of the lighter beers and my BF had one of the stouts. We were both very pleased with our beers and thought they were very high quality brews without the high quality price tag. For dinner we decided to try one of the Pesto based pizzas. It took about 25-30 mins for the pizza to be made but that is expected with the wood fired brick oven. The pizza is literally made feet away from you right behind the bar area. While waiting for the pizza we engaged in conversation with 4-5 other people at the bar area who appeared to all be locals. As the only non locals at the bar we were made to feel as though we were part of the group and everyone was very friendly. The pizza arrived and we both scarfed it down quickly. It was very good pizza that was made with high quality ingredients. Lots of flavor from the ingredients that was not overpowered by the pesto sauce. The crust was a thin crust that was nice and crispy but not burned at all. The pizza was cooked perfectly and offered a very nice palate of flavors. My BF and I both commented upon leaving about how good the pizza was and how inviting the entire staff was. We would both love to go back if we are ever in Dolores again.

There are some great beers at this little brewery. I like the darker beers, like stouts and porters, and I always enjoy what I order. I try to switch it up, and not not get the same beer every time, and so far I have not been disappointed. On a side note - I love the artwork on their labels, stickers, and other swag. The pizza is also good. It is not deep dish or greasy, but the ingredients are fresh and the pie is cooked to perfection. We had a large Greek influenced pizza that was spectacular. The staff is always friendly. When they found out my boyfriend is a brewer, they took us into the back to show us around. If you are in the area and hungry, or just feel like stopping somewhere for a pint, this is the place to do it.

Good local place. There is a window at the bar to walk up to and order your beer and pizza, then grab a table. The bartender was nice to let me sample a couple beers before I decided on the ESB. Night, so it did take a little while) we had fun quizzing each other with the Trivial Pursuit cards that were at the tables . Once the pizza arrived, we enjoyed a wonderful homemade woodfired pizza. Good food, good beer, nice people and a fun way to spend the evening.

I was staying in Cortez for two days to do the Shiprock Half-Marathon (see my favorable review of the White Eagle Inn). After the race on day two, a Saturday, I was looking to replace fluids and carbs--yeah, right--and saw Dolores Rivery Brewery not far away, with local beer and pizza. I took the short, not un-scenic drive out there, walked in, sat at the bar, and had a wonderful Saturday afternoon. I intentionally went early to avoid any crowd, and had great conversations with the regulars; I suspect, based on familiarity they had with the staff, I was the only non-regular. I'm not going to review the beer closely since it's been two weeks since my stop, but suffice it to say it was good, reasonably priced, and the staff and regulars were not afraid to lend their thumbs up/down opinions on them. I do recall I didn't think the cask conditioned version was noticeably better than the non-conditioned. And I found the Pale very drinkable. They apparently fill growlers, although I hadn't brought mine from Texas. To eat I had a calzone, I believe their "New Yorker" minus onions. Cooked in a pizza oven directly behind the bar, literally six feet away. I think the person cooking may have been new, but it turned out fine. And large. This place met or exceeded all my expectations and I will definitely return next time I'm in the area.

This might be the best pizza in Colorado. Next time I'm in this area I will drive out of my way to return here. Pro tips: There's a cute antique store just to the north that is filled to the BRIM with fun old things. You could also get your pizza to go and eat it in the cute park on a pretty day.

This was our 1st visit their. The menu is very limted and the food was just ok. The open face green chile burger is what I had. The French fries and Green chile stew that topped the plain no taste hamburger patty were good. The person with me had the Pilly Steak made with hamburger and compare to a hot pocket it was good. The service was excellent.

Trust the reviews! Great beer, great pizza, great atmosphere. Trivial Pursuit to play at the bar while you're waiting. Seems like everyone there is a local and welcomed back with a smile. Highly recommend the pale ale and the Chevy pizza.

This a great little brewery in an unexpected location. If you're passing through Dolores it's worth it to plan a stop if you like good beer. We had kids and plans so only had time for a quick round but we all tried something different and all were good in their categories. The ipa was hoppy and good! Everyone else liked theirs too (stout, hefeweizen, and pale ale). Wish we could've tried the food, maybe next time...

Absolutely a GEM!!!! We loved this place!! We were going for a concert here and our concierge in Telluride told us to be sure and eat because they had great pizza. Not only was the pizza and calzone fantastic, so was the fresh salad. I got a red wine that I enjoyed and tried the chocolate beer. My son said that all of the beers that he tried(which are made there) were all really smooth and good. We sat outside to listen to the show and eat and drink. They have a great stage. Locals came with their chairs to listen as well and it was the most relaxing evening we had on our trip. I can't say enough about this place. I was even impressed with the diaper changing station in the restroom! Also, met the owner and manager and nicer people you will not meet anywhere. Wish I could give them more stars!!!!

Stopped in for dinner during a road trip - fabulous beer (pale and ESB) and the pizza was about the best I've eaten anywhere. There are some interesting pizza choices on the menu, including the type of 'base' desired - I had the 'olive oil' base which resulted in an amazing great pizza. Oh yeah, the salads were excellent too - fresh and tasty. This is one of those small town gems that makes you want to cheer. Great friendly service and cool local crowd ambiance too. If it wasn't a 2 hour drive I'd head back for round two tonight!

Not a fan at all for 2 reasons. We went there on a live music night. Drums and guitars in a place this size... not a good idea. It was so loud I couldn't wait to get out (already ordered food). I ordered a nice sounding salad - my favorite, with blu cheese and pecans. Sadly they decided to save some money and switch out the pecans for rather bitter walnuts, (which I dont like). Spent my dinner dissecting my salad and getting the big walnut pieces out while I still got the small pieces in. Also, no one asked or checked how the food was so I didnt even get a chance to let them know in person (so: here you go). Crappy experience, I wont be back. The beer I ordered was good tho, I have to say...

Best pizza around. I would go out of my way to eat here. The place is laid back as is Dolores so don't come here expecting a waiter standing next to your table. Go to the bar and order your food and drinks, go sit and enjoy the atmosphere. You'd have to be the most tightly wound person in the world to give these people one star. Get over yourself. You are not the center of the universe. We should be able to give reviewers one star for their inability to pick restaurants that match their personality.

What a great little place! I could see that being a regular hang out if I lived anywhere near Dolores. Popped in for pizza and beer while visiting my inlaws who live in Dolores. Great beer, can't pronounce what I (the waitress couldn't either) had but it was good... it was the special that day. The pizza with the pesto was to die for... great crust! My husband had the Philly Cheesesteak sammie and he loved it. I will be sure to pop in at least a couple of times next visit to the inlaws! Was there on a Friday evening...small crowd but very friendly people and cozy atmosphere.

This is literally my favorite place in the universe. I couldn't imagine giving it anything less than 5 stars. That one star review on here literally made my blood boil. This is Dolores, not Denver. Like another reviewer noted it is signed clearly that you order at the bar. This is definitely a locals place but not because of any attitude towards 'outsiders.' You get what you give to the staff here. I've always had lovely experiences. On to the important stuff: food an beer! I have literally never had a dish here that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. The ingredients are SO fresh and the combinations creative. The beer is made in-house and is great. My favorite is the summer-seasonal hef, but the mild is also great year-round. On top of everything this place has some of the best live music I've ever seen! Every band that comes through here has a unique and fun quality. By the end of the night everyone is always dancing. For the love of God if you find yourself in Dolores, GO HERE! It doesn't get any better.

Delicious pizza, great beer and perhaps the friendliest outdoor patio I've seen. Folks were super friendly, both staff and other patrons. We unexpectedly caught a terrific live music performance - the stage in the back patio - and had a really great time. Highly recommend eating and drinking here.

Neat place with decent food but the beer will leave you wanting. The beer has more of a home brew taste compared with a good craft beer. It seems to miss some of the polish that creates a complete experience. The body was always too light for the style and the brewer seems a little scared of hops. But the white pizza and the guacamole were really good.

I thoroughly enjoyed this little brewery... It was like an oasis in the middle of the desert. The beer was delicious (we ended up buying a four pack of the dry stout to take back to our terrible "hotel" - but that's another story). Everyone keeps harping on the service, but there is an enormous sign at the bar that says "order food here" and menus are nicely stacked below. So, it was fairly obvious to my boyfriend and I that the brewery really doesn't off traditional style table service... AOK by me though, the bartender was adorable and quick to help us as the several other people there. I will admit the menu was quite limited, but that didn't bother me either, which is surprising to me cause I am usually a sucker for a five page menu. What can I say, when you do something well, why branch out? The pizzas amazing, the freshest hand made crust you could imagine. Their pesto is great as well, I love the sauce... Just the smallest little chunks of tomato. We split a caesar salad too. Initially it thought it would be under dressed, but the fresh, house made Caesar dressing was so flavorful it didn't need to drown it as some typically do... Excellent beer, excellent pizza and salad, very fresh, very fun atmosphere... I would definitely recommend!

Sorry guys - while the food is wonderful and the service during the day rocks - I love the way they talk to you as if they've known you their whole life - the service after dark stinks. I highly recommend going in for a meal but if you are looking for fun in the nightlife area - stay away. The girls behind the bar serving up the drinks are most unfriendly. I suppose they get paid well and don't care about being tipped or not.

Incredible pizza and delicious local brew. having read other reivews we had concern about serivce and found that not to be true at all. You order at the bar then find a table. they then bring out everything. not fast service but very good. depending on how large the crowd is. met all the servers who were wonderful visitied with locals. families come in and eat. all kinds. We tried it 3 different nights. All outstanding. the Margharita pizza is our favorite. they sprinkle fresh pesto on top after cooking. great flavors and the homemade crust is amazing. Prices are very reasonable. we liked the ESB, IPA and the current flavor Jamaican Sweet. we can't wait to go back

Skip it if you aren't a local! Service is rude and offensive. We stopped in here on our way through Dolores. The bartender proceeded to completely ignore us even though we were one of only 12 people in the place. He greeted and served all the locals, then two more groups of locals that came in after us and finally when he could no longer ignore us (we were sitting at the bar right in front of him) he acknowledged us and then eventually got us the beer we requested. Our Innkeeper later told us that that's their standard procedure. They want to be be a local's place. That's obvious from the treatment we got.

My husband and I spent two wonderful evenings in DRB while honeymooning in the area. The pizza is delicious, service is great and beer is, well, yummy! This is a must stop if you're in the area.

Trust the reviews! Great beer, great pizza, great atmosphere. Trivial Pursuit to play at the bar while you're waiting. Seems like everyone there is a local and welcomed back with a smile. Highly recommend the pale ale and the Chevy pizza.

This is a locals haven, or heaven? Good food, excellent beer, cozy patio when the Colorado gods smile on us with blue skies. A Mecca for live music and socializing. Check it out if your a beer nut or just want some good food.
