Good place for lunch only. If you are looking for lunch while you're downtown this is the place to go to. They have a lot of different kinds of soup to provide. This is my first time here but the guy who works here told me they rotate the soups daily or weekly... I can't remember which. The lunch combo is affordable and that way you get to try two different things off the menu. Enough to fuel you for the rest of the day. I wouldn't say they are anything spectacular but they provide quality food and have something for everyone. Nice place to come in if you're alone or in a group of four. Clean place to eat and friendly staff. Overall I'm happy with my first time experience.

Understaffed, the wait is too long for this kind of place.

A good option for soups, sandwiches and salads downtown off Court & 16th (across from the Sheraton). If you happen to be working in the Webb building or over that way it is a short walk here, so it makes it a nice option (since there seems to be a food void over that way)! They make about a dozen soups a day and will let you taste them before you buy. Plus they have a pretty good selection of hot sandwiches and some salads on the menu. I think the prices are about what you would expect for a downtown quick lunch. The place is small, but they pack in a fair amount of tables and free wif-fi! It doesn't have me craving it, but it fills me up!

I work across the street from these guys and after seeing everyone at my office carrying around their bags during lunch I decided to follow suit and give these guys a try the other day. I'm giving these guys 3 stars because the soup is good...but that's it. The sandwiches...are nothing to write home about. The bread is fantastic, but otherwise the sandwiches really are quite underwhelming.

Reliable and affordable. I hit this spot up for lunch about 2-6 times a month. The salads and soups are good, depending on your tastes. I like the asian salad and chicken caesar. The soups, you can taste em first, so I don't understand the criticisms of other reviews. I like their chilis, typically. During the summer they have a buy 8, get one free punch card. A half salad usually is more than enough for me. I don't want bread, plasticware, napkins or a bag with my to go orders. This is a difficult concept for staff to understand for some reason. Some are cool, others don't get that I think it is wasteful and try to give it to me anyway. It is almost always crowded (and therefore slower) during the typical lunch hour, go early or late and save your time.

Disappointed doesn't even begin to explain my thoughts right now! I am currently staying at The Sheraton in downtown Denver and thought "Oh my, Zoup? Sounds perfect!" So I call to order the 4-Cheese Grilled Cheese and the Lobster Bisque. NEVER. AGAIN. The Lobster Bisque tastes EXACTLY like any creamy/cheesy Campbell's canned soup. Yes, there was IMITATION lobster (and quite a bit of it), but the chunks separated into mush once in my mouth! I will say they fill the soup cup to the top! Then the Sandwich. I specifically said on the phone just how much I LOVE cheese. Look at the pictures. This IS a grilled cheese in regard to grilled bread and melted cheese, but that's it. The majority of this sandwich was bread! AND this "Soup, Salad & Sandwich" shop doesn't even have pickles! An honorable mention for this not-even-close-to-good-experience: On the phone I asked for my total, but respectively, he couldn't say because the shop was not quite open ... but, he COULD have estimated! I went in thinking $10 at tops for a small cup of soup and grilled cheese (no meat or garnish), right? I paid $15 for absolute crap! Not to mention, the soup comes with a "big hunk of bread" as I think they call it... Since I got a sandwich, I told them to hold the bread for my soup. So I paid for a cheese sandwich and received BREAD. Then I paid for Soup & Bread and got canned soup. I should have just requested them to use the side of bread from my soup for my sandwich and then just charged me for the four small pieces of cheese! What a joke.

Small soup kitchen with a great selection of soups. Tasty and good service I would give it 5 stars but not good for large family's it is a small place but good food

  • A J.

The service is plain terrible. I have been here twice. Both times I got a bowl of soup that is ready in a pot, and yet it takes them forever to give you your order! And the soups taste, well tasteless! Do not waste your time here. Walk across less than 2 mins to the food court for more variety of flavorful food and better service, for less price.

I waited patiently for 20 minutes to get soup then when it's finally my turn, the bozo employee said he's too backed up for online orders and that Id have to wait there for another 5 minutes as they caught up. Meanwhile, 20 minutes of wAiting and told I have to wait more is simply awful service. Maybe you should hire qualified employees who don't move the pace of a dying snail. Step it up Zoup and hire decent staff. 0 stars

I really do love good soup... any soup, all soup... except for potato soup(long story)... I saw Zoup one evening while waiting to go into a movie, it is winter in Denver- why not? They have 120 different soups, based on what the counter person told me, and they switch out twelve per day. The Zoups are not made in house, but brought in from an off-site location. I went for the lobster bisque, after tasting it, the gumbo and the etoufee. The sample of lobster bisque had a pleasant, very delicate flavor, especially compared to the robust spice in the other two. I also choose the grilled cheese and sourdough bread on the side(treadmill anyone?) The cup of bisque, not as good as the sample I had seemed to lack the flavor I love about bisque, maybe no sherry? The sandwich, while hot and cooked perfectly, also seemed to be missing a little in the flavor department. The sourdough bread, however, was absolutely amazing, and the saving grace of this review. I put a little butter in it, tried it alone and BAM! That pungent and slightly sour taste was truly fantastic. Duffy and warm inside and just the right amount of crunchy on the outside. If I go back... maybe I will try a side of something before going all out on the cup... good premise but the execution just seemed a little off.

Colorado Winters... gotta love them, because if you think about, they're really not that bad. My winter coat stays in my closet for a good chunk of the year. It's those few days, like today, where I had to walk to work in -9 degree weather, and once I got to work, I said, "I want soup. Now." Zoup it is. There are a ton of soups that are cycled regularly, and they update the website daily with what soups are served at each location. I have a lot of favorite soups here, but the Chicken Pot Pie, Shrimp/Crawfish Etouffee, and the Shrimp Asparagus Dill are where it's at. But you get to sample as many as you want, so why not try them all? Like others have said, it's not exactly cheap, but neither is ANY downtown lunch spot. If you want to complain about the price, then bring your lunch instead of eating out every day. You get a side of bread (I recommend multigrain) with your soup, and you can dip the bread in the soup and get all warm and fuzzy inside (warm and fuzzy? Okay, I need to go to lunch now). A cup and bread usually fills me up (all of the soups are chock full of stuff). Is it lunch time yet?

Cute place, nice concept, but the staff you have working for you were deplorable!!!! Swearing, complaining as I waited for my food. Three out of the four staff members said they were going to walk out. They had no regard for the customer, very turned off by this!!!!!

Longest wait I've ever had for soup and a sandwich! To top it off the gave me a salad instead of wrap I ordered. Very disappointed with service. Would not return.

  • Victoria T.

First time here and I have to say, the service here is very good! The staff is very eager to give you samples of all their soups. I ended up getting the Shrimp & Crawfish Etouffee and the Cajun Chicken & Sausage Gumbo. Both soups were hearty, chunky, and flavorful. The two soups came with a piece of bread (French, multigrain, or sourdough). I would have given five stars if it was a little cheaper. $11 for two sides of soup is a little pricey for me.

I have been to Zoup many times, and it is always great. I love that they let you sample as many soups as you want (they have 12 available every day, on a rotating basis) before you place your order. They always have at least a few vegetarian options, which makes me happy. I also really like some of their salads; I order a half salad for under $6.00 for lunch and it is plenty of food. The only negative is that some of the menu items are fairly pricey. It is around $6 for a 12 oz. cup of soup; that is far more than you will pay at most places. But it's good food, so I will keep going back.

    (4)
  • Abby Q.

VERY yummy. I ordered 1/2 a veggie-terranean wrap, and a cup of the potato cheese soup. While it was definitely on the pricey side, it was super yum-o. One piece of advice I will give - order and pay online before you go. I went during a very busy lunch hour after ordering and paying online and was able to bypass the line wrapping around the store and go straight to the register. No wasting 2/3 of my 30 minute lunch waiting in line! :)

  • Clara A.

I'm really surprised that this place doesn't have great reviews because I really like it. It's perfect for cold weather days. Like, I crave it multiple times per week during the winter. My favorites are the Tomato Soup, Mexican Soup, French Onion Soup, and the Southwest Turkey Sandwich.

    (4)
  • V.J. M.

$9 for a "side" of soup (smaller than the cup) and a half "sandwich" (2 pieces of bread with a little bit of cheese metled...saddest grilled cheese ever) seems really, REALLY pricey. I know it's downtown Denver, and there aren't a lot of places like this, but come on....$9!? The soup was OK, the bread was good, but it literally makes me want to throw up when I think about how much profit you make off charging someone $9 for a TINY side of soup and some bread. WOW.

Zoup! Had no idea you were hiding there around the corner. I was working on a Saturday and tried to hit up Greens but they are closed on the weekends. Sonofa.... so I walked down 16th street wondering where I might find something quick that offers gluten free items. I happned to look to my left to make sure I wasn't walking into oncoming traffic and there it was. The place was full on this Saturday, likely due to the hotel right there, but there were only a couple of people in line in front of me. The young man behind the counter was zouper friendly (I make myself cringe sometimes). He asked if I wanted to sample any of the soups. They had two gluten free options on the menu so I sampled one of them and loved it. I ordered the soup/salad combo and asked for no cheese on the salad. Therein lies my only gripe, they cheesed my salad. And the salad was just average. Not bad but nothing spectacular but I did just order a basic garden type salad - uncheesed. Prices were average, soup was fantasitc, cashier man was very friendly....glad I decided to check for oncoming traffic today!

Tasty little downtown soup place. I had the chicken pot pie with sourdough bread. At 10 bucks for a bowl and small drink, this isn't the cheapest place - but it's nice and clean.

  • Phillip M.

it was hard to decide between a 3 and 4 star rating. They have a great selection of soups and sandwiches and most are really good. I went with 3 because their prices are a bit high, but more importantly, their post-order experience is pretty chaotic. There is no good space to stand and wait for your lunch. They should take a couple booths out, put in some taller window facing seats, and that would free up more space.

  • Sam H.

If you want soup this is the place to go. Lots of soups to choose from and they rotate their soups daily. I prefer to eat plant-based (vegan) and they always have dairy free vegetarian options to choose from. The soups are very hearty and filling and not to mention quite tasty- definitely not dumped out of a can. The soups are not a last minute thrown together side dish, but the main course! My first time there I got a soup and sandwich, which was too much for my hearty frame to handle. I go there to just get the soup. The only complaint I have is that they don't have any realy good vegan options with their salads. But that's ok, the soup is good enough for me.

Zoup is good. Not great. But solidly good. Its reliable little kitchen dishes out eight or nine soup recipes each day which are filling and not drenched in sodium. Although there are booths and tables for sitting, I find Zoup is best for days when I'm caught at work without lunch and in need of a fast solution. I've been in and out of there in less than 10 minutes when there's a line out the door. The menu also has salads, sandwiches and other combinations. Free bread with each soup (which come in 4 sizes of bowls).

Let's start by saying I ABSOLUTELY LOVE SOUP! A friend of mine took me here the other day and I haven't been able to go through a day with out stopping in for a little soup snack. Needless to say ZOUP is burning a hole in my wallet.

Checked out this place last week, and the guys up front were extremely helpful. They took the time to teach us how to order from the menu so five stars for service. I ordered the southwest turkey. However, I did not realize that the sandwiches were extremely filling so keep in mind of that when you order. The half sandwich with a soup is extremely filling.

Not really the best lunch I've ever had, but that may not be the goal here. Utility on a cold winter day takes precedence over wow factor sometimes. The comfort of hot soup is hard to beat, so kudos for that concept. I had high hopes for this lunch stop specializing in soups, but ultimately felt a bit let down. The portion sizes were small. The black bean chili I had was nothing special at all. The turkey club half sandwich was unexpectedly toasted which I found weird (my bad for not fully reading the menu). They rotate some 100 or so varieties of soup and have about ten or twelve at a time available. Good concept, fair execution. I will try Zoup again. Maybe it was just me and a bad order. I think it's fair to give the place a few more tries.

NO ZOUP FOR YOU!!! My experience may be atypical but here it is... I was staying at the downtown hotel that Zoup is in, and I put in an on-line order. At five minutes before the order was ready I went down to the shop to find it closed. Super closed. Lights off. No one in the restaurant closed. Moreover, I received an automatic email saying my order was ready. The sign on the front window said it should have still been open. Bummer.

Went by Zoup today not intending to get anything but my co-worker was hungry and we were in the vicinity. We approached to find a note on the door, closing at 1:30 p.m. because system is down. It was 1:24 p.m. We entered and were greeted nicely. The servers informed us that they "couldn't accept any cash or credit cards, but the owners were giving away a free cup of soup". So we sampled, we got, we ate and we enjoyed. Even with a new soup shop in town, Zoup's shines and is a favorite for sure! Thanks Zoup!

They have a ton of delicious soups and they let you sample which is cool. It's pretty pricey, 10$ for a bowl of lobster bisque.. but everywhere downtown is expensive. Line is also out the door at lunch so I recommend ordering online ahead of time.

My new favorite place for a quick lunch downtown! The variety of soup is overwhelming at first, but the friendly folks behind the counter are quick to recognize the deer in headlights look and get you acclimated. The whole area was clean and tastefully designed. Although it wasn't exactly cheap (about $9 for a half sandwich and cup of soup), I felt like I got my money's worth. It was seriously the best tomato basil bisque I've ever had. You get your choice of bread with your soup. I went with sour dough and it was perfect. I also had the Southwest Turkey sandwich. The ciabatta bread was crispy on the outside and soft and fresh on the inside. Turkey was high quality and chipotle mayo was super yummy. Side note if you do Weight Watchers: the sandwich is 12 points. To top off the experience, their to go bags are really nice handled paper bags! I can't wait to go back and try more soups! While they rotate more than 100 soups, 12 per day, they have the Chicken Pot Pie and Lobster Bisque every day. Yummm!

  • Aileen D.

Great concept. I love that they let you sample before you order. I've had the split pea, clam chowder and southwest turkey sandwich. All yummy. I'm not a sandwich person but it was awesome- warm toasty roll and gooey cheese and enough spice and flavor. I've heard great things about the chicken pot pie and mulligatawny.

I've attempted not once, not twice, but THREE times. The website, door, and yelp all say this place is open until 7:30, I've tried between 5 and 6, all three days they've closed early. No I did not go on holidays. October 6th is not a holiday. It's ridiculous.

  • matt h.

I would give it 3.5 stars if I was able. The soup is very good, though not amazing, the bread is excellent, the interior is nicer than I expected, the employees were friendly, but the price is not right. Eight dollars for a cup of almost any soup (or ten if its lobster bisque) is just too high. One hint to make the price reasonable is to find the downtown visitor's guide, which has a two for one coupon.

    (3)
  • Danielle S.

AWFUL! I came here because I was craving some soup in a bread bowl. I was super excited because of all the options....I tried the lobster and crab bisque, the vegetable one, and the chicken pot pie. ALL were terrible. I honestly don't understand how people are liking this soup, they are all super bland and just plain gross. Now for some inside on my taste to better decide for yourself. I love the broccoli cheddar soup at Panera bread, their tomato soup is good, and I think their clam chowder is just OK (though I wouldn't buy it again because I know there is better clam chowder elsewhere). So as for Zoup, I wouldn't ever go here again. It was super expensive and the soup as I have already mentioned was a HUGE disappointment. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. Ending on a positive note, the service was fast and the workers were super friendly.

They must have read my mind when they opened this place up. It's a whole restaurant, for soup (and other things too). It's like the soup nazi place from seinfield without the crazy rules! First things first... the soup. They apparently have hundreds of soups, but only serve up a rotating menu of 12 soups daily. The cool thing is that when you come in and wonder which soup you could possibly have today, they provide you samples of every soup to make your decision a bit easier. I tried the clam chowder, and the jamaican gumbo. Ultimately I really liked the gumbo so I got that. The clam chowder was ok... but I wasn't really feeling like it. The other things on the menu include about 10 sandwiches and salads. I gave the chicken toscana a whirl. The soup was pretty good. I would definitely recommend this place to any soup lover. The only gripe I have against them is their "french bread" (aka dinner roll). The roll was stale and dry (boo). As for the sandwich, it was about as good as an airplane sandwich (albeit warmer). The chicken was pretty much mixed deli chicken slices mixed in sauce. Wasn't exactly mind blowing. Next time I come here I'd probably only order soup.

    (3)
  • Elizabeth L.

This place was just plain average. What was impressive was that they apparently have hundreds of soups (that rotate daily...so maybe like 12 of them are actually out per day). They let you sample any of their soups, and they're quite tasty (and creative), but it's pricey for just a small bowl of soup. It's a little less than $5 for a cup and they give you a piece of bread. I got their cobb salad (half) which was pretty good. It was under $5, so their other menu items (besides soup) are decently priced. The place is alright. A good place if you're craving soup I guess.

This is a great place to grab a quick bite in downtown Denver. You can try any of their multitude of soups (I think they differ each day) before you order. They have not only soup, but sandwiches, salads, and wraps too. It's a decent value and a quality meal, especially on a cold day.

Downtown has such a spotty restaurant scene- tons of chains, uber high-end hotspots and a handful of tried-and-true granddaddy types like The Market and Wazee Supper Club. For being the center of such a restaurant town, downtown Denver is not as consistently good as one would hope it to be (especially when one has a job downtown and occasionally forgets her South Beach diet salad at home). So today I tried Zoup for the first time, and I would say it's pretty much a good representative of Denver's downtown restaurant scene. Not too great, a little overpriced, but quick and close. Utilitarian lunchtime food. I had the Tuscan Chicken Wrap (not on a ciabatta... gotta go whole grain or no grain at all). The pesto was really salty and the red onions offered a slightly unexpected (amost upsettingly so) contrast. The good thing was that it was blisteringly hot, which is a plus, as most downtown chains seem to somehow skirt health code rules left and right by serving everything at a temp just north of "tepid." I might go again if pressed for a quick lunch, but nine bucks for an iced tea and an okay wrap seemed a bit much. For that kind of money, I could have a lovingly-rendered artisan sammie over at Parsley or Cook's Fresh Market.

$7.50 for half a sandwich or small wrap (normally $4.50) with a side of soup ($4.50 on it's own) + a piece of bread. Went here because a coworker was raaaving about all the types of soup (12 different kinds that rotate each day), but honestly, it was very...average. You can sample as many soups as you'd like and after trying the spicy black bean chili and the corn chowder I decided on the chowder. The soup was too salty but eating it with the bread made it okay. I also ordered the California Veg wrap. It had cucumbers, romaine lettuce, and some tzaziki wrapped in what was advertised as a multigrain wrap (I guess I wasn't sure what that would really be) but ended up being just a cold whole-wheat tortilla. All in all, it was okay. One of the nice things is that they have a handful of vegetarian soups (more than a normal establishment would offer).

I love the Zoup! On Arapahoe so I was really excited to find this one downtown, by my work. That excitement was shortlived. I had the asian salad and the dressing was NOTHING like the one on Arapahoe. It tasted like honey! Who wants pancakey salad??? Now I guess I know why its dead even though its right off the 16th street mall! Skip this and get the Asian Chop Salad at Noodles just down the street

I had a cup of soup.... Not a bowl... A cup! and a small fountain drink which cost $8.40. The soup was good but, I'm starving!

  • Jack H.

I've been here twice now and both times were good. $9.15 for a cup of soup, half sandwich, and bread? It was more than enough food, in fact I couldn't finish the whole cup of soup, which was hearty, thick, and full of flavor. Place was clean, people were friendly, and they give you UNLIMITED FREE SAMPLES so you can figure out exactly which soup you want! For the taste, the price, and location, when I want soup I'm going to Zoup.

  • Chris M.

A decent place to go for lunch, nothing really to write home about, but a place that I will hit up again. Finding semi healthy options for lunch downtown can sometimes be difficult which makes this place appealing. The prices are decent for downtown, the place was clean, service friendly and food fresh.

  • Jeannine M.

Nothing really special about this place. I went in for lunch last Friday and had the soup and sandwich combination. Considering it's the end of summer, the tasteless and mealy tomato on my mozzarella basil sandwich was pretty inexcusable. The crab soup was good, but not enough to lure me back. The people behind the counter, however, seemed extremely clueless. I don't know if it was a manager or owner or what controlling the line, but all the employees seemed tense and inexperienced, and no one seemed to be in charge. Sort of a weird environment.

Spotted it by accident after paying my traffic ticket at Denver County Court. Got 5 different soups for everyone at the office. We all loved it! I had Lobster Bisque. Mmmmmm! It comes with a freshly baked bread. They also have sandwiches and salads. Their website shows nutrition information but not prices. We paid $40 for 5 soups. A little bit high but was well worth it in my case.

I'm surprised at the low reviews for this restaurant. I was in the area and needed to grab a quick lunch. I had the lobster bisque and a Greek salad (soup & salad combo for about $9). The salad was fresh and the soup was hot and DELICIOUS. They also have a frequent purchase punch card, so a little incentive to pay them another visit. They were a little slow for the lunch crunch, but I will definitely visit them again for a quick and reasonably priced lunch.

I love soup. Ok, I really love soup. That said, Zoup is my go-to for my soup fix. Best soups: chicken pot pie and lobster bisque. Location: downtown Positives: staff were friendly-this was around 1830 on a Tuesday, bread is warmed in the oven prior to serving, soup selection Negatives: ran out of sampling cups, tables could have been cleaner, parking during peak office hours is irritating Overall, I like Zoup for the soup fix!

  • Adriana C.

The main reason I go to this restaurant is because it's within a 5 minute walk from my office and sometimes I crave soup (as a lot of people do when it's cold I'm sure). The value is the reason this place gets 3 stars. The soup is very good quality (try the Shrimp Bisque, I practically licked the bowl it was so good) but the sandwiches are mediocre at best, and today I bought a "combo" which was a cup of soup and half a turkey sandwich and my bill was almost $10. It is definitely more expensive than Panera, Corner Bakery Cafe, etc. . If you go, go for a cup of soup and skip everything else. Pricey, and not worth it!

  • Joe T.

Had soup and salad for lunch. Not bad for a quick meal. The soups are great. However the salads are prepackaged and they were not very good. I could not finish it.
