I really wanted to love this place. The setup is exactly like the ramen house in Paris that I have been to. Unfortunately everything was less than par. I know most ramen places in the US are over priced which is ok if the food is excellent. This was not the case here. The edamame was overly spicy with no real flavor, the Japanese fried chicken was mainly fatty and our ramen bowls were... nothing special. The pork was dry and lacking flavor and the overall taste was forgettable. We won't be going back. We are better off paying a tad more to go to our neighborhood Bones restaurant. Our waitress was sweet and we had nothing to complain about as far as service goes.

Great experience - Dana was just awesome. The food was great considering there aren't a lot of legit Japanese places in Denver. Get the yakitori and try the tsukeimen!

Argh! The food was SO GOOD. Like...my first choice was Uncle, but it's impossible to spend a Friday night there unless you're lucky, so Tokio isn't a bad second choice. And I was definitely impressed with my meal. We ordered some of the best gyoza I've had in a long while...huge, plump and tender. My ramen was transcendent. I ordered the tsukemen, which is hot, salty broth served with chilled noodles on the side with all of the traditional, fun ramen accoutrements. You pick up a big ole swap of noodles, dip them in the hot broth and stuff your face. Its fun and delicious! All that was fabulous...so why the 3 stars? The service is constantly in a state of confusion when I go. This time, the hostess didn't seem to have a clue how reservations work. I had made a 6:30 reservation for 2. Arrived at 6:15, was fully willing and expecting to wait until the reservation time. At 7:20, and after 4 other parties (3 of which arrived AFTER I had) were seated, we finally received a table. The hostess never offered an explanation or an apology...in fact, I didn't get a single word between our arrival and our seating. It was disappointing and neglectful. I'm not often disturbed by bad service...but this was just catty. What's the point of a reservation if I end up waiting anyway? So...that's kind of how Tokio is shaping up to be: good food....off-putting service.

Beautiful atmosphere and authentic meticulously prepared ramen that is as good as it gets! Miki Hashimoto has done it again!

even though I Use restaurants for dinner about 5 times a week, I was surprised at the diversity of the food, and Tokio's excellence in general... Sushi, noodles, fried chicken, grilled items... on a small but VERY well put together menu. Staff attitude was positive, they all seem to enjoy working there. Seems the owner used to have a similar (?) place near Wash Park. the food quality, freshness and preparation was well done. And the taste was GREAT. What a well done job decorating the space, and creating a nice environment in a small building. I had thought it might be a "typical" Asian restaurant but was truly and happily surprised at what an excellent and sophisticated offering tokio is. this will be a "destination" within the year.

We LOVE this place - went last night to celebrate my birthday and it was fun. The grilled chicken and pork was moist and crisp. We had some yummy sushi and then ended with the best noodles I've had on this side of the Pacific ocean. Miki was there in great form - welcome back, my friend.

YEs, yes, yes ! If you want incredible authentic Japanese Ramen and Sushi and Kobe beef you must go to TOKIO. My son and I met for happy hour and enjoyed ice cold premium beer and generous fresh sashimi $2.00 . Right ! We moved onto diner and the gastronomical gourmet cuisine that followed was over the top ! I had the Kobe beef and it was "Melt in your mouth" Wow ! The cut was about equal to any filet mignons at any steak house and was cooked to prefection on a very cool Japanese charcoal grill called Bincyo-tan right at the sushi bar so the unique flavor of the Kobe and the grilling process was so good we had to order a second order, oh did I mention it was only $13.00 you must try this with OBIIKOROSHI SERVED IN MASU BOX ! It just docent get any better than this really and to have the owner Miki Hashimoto personally overseeing the entire meal was just fabulous and the entire line of chefs and wait staff was like enjoying a symphony. Lastly, the furniture was super comfy and the live edge Ash plank sushi bar and community table are not to be missed. Thank You Bob F.

Absolutely delicious!!! The fish was assoen, the squid and the spider roll were the best I've ever had...ever...seriously the spider rol?!?! Amazing! The chef Manuel is exceptional and has a wonderful sense for food. I also had the chicken liver on the grill which was so decadent and perfect! Thanks for a great dining experience!!!

The miso diablo ramen was very tasty and had a nice kick to it. The staff was also very friendly and attentive.

Last night was our third visit to Tokio. Sat at the charcoal grille/sushi bar this time. The restaurant has a fun community table. And a lofted area. Lots of style in a very small space It rocks. The food is fab. A little edgy. Delicious. Sushi roll was beautifully presented and yummy. For a spot that has only been open a few weeks, Mr. Hashimoto has it going. The only suggestion...a table busser would make the experience more pleasant. Otherwise, keep it up. どうもありがとう

I'm so happy to have found a great little Japanese restaurant in this neighborhood! Other than Domo, it hasn't been easy to find a place that makes great ramen. Service was fantastic and I love the ambience. I recommend the Aspara-Bacon the Curry Ramen and the Shoyu Ramen.

We really enjoyed the food at Tokio. We made a point to not have sushi for a change of pace. The homemade gyoza were terrific...soft texture, nice flavor. The blistered shishito peppers were much larger than we've seen before, but the sauce on the bottom was different and delicious. The yakitori (chicken breast) was so so. Not anything special in flavor. The miso marinated black cod was delicate and well prepared. I think Sushi Den's version is a notch up, but it was good at Tokio. The staff was very nice and efficient. NOW, here's the reason for the 3 stars. The music seemed to come from a 12 year old girl's Spotify playlist. Pink, Britney, Beyonce, Shakira and other top, top 40. We are not sub-30 so for us it cheapened the experience. The interior is an interesting space. With a more sophisticated soundtrack it would have been much cooler. The other notable dislike was the artsy thing at the entrance. From the outside there's a bright white glow, like a video shoot is going on inside. When you step inside you realize there some sort of art piece with small BRIGHT white spot lights pointed at it. Yikes, it's obnoxious. We were glad to get far from that to the second floor. The booths upstairs are incredibly comfortable BTW. In summary, we've not been to a restaurant where just a few of the atmosphere elements bring down the restaurant experience as a whole to this degree. On another note, this emerging neighborhood in Denver is really parking challenged. Definitely use the valet station in front of WTF next door. We thought Highland and Cherry Creek were tough. Not even close.

Great sake, appetizers, sushi...just all the food was great. Only complaint is the service. Our waitress was a little rude. She didn't have many manners at all.

Was hoping this place would live up to it's recent yelp reviews, but my bf and I were pretty disappointed with most of what we ordered. Stick with the Ramen ( even though it's over priced). Skip the frozen squid, shisito peppers (that really aren't shisito) and small end pieces of miso cod. Have to say the space is nice, new, and clean. May go back for the ramen again and try out the sushi.

My spicy shoyu ramen was none what-so-ever spicy, pretty disappointed. Lacked in flavor. However, my boyfriend got the curry ramen and it was to die for. The sushi was delicious also! Need to try the yakitori. Will definitely come back and try something different, but will not get the spicy shoyu ramen again.

I am so excited about this place! Beautiful decor and their happy hour menu is 10pm to 1am on weekdays and 10pm to 2am on weekends! It is perfect for those who get off work late and have a craving for sushi and ramen. My boyfriend and I have dined here twice within a week. That is how happy I am with their food and service! It's also a bonus that we live only a 5 minute walk away. Their ramen is delicious! I have had ramen at other restaurants that specialize in ramen, but this takes the cake! They have a pretty good selection of ramen and many other options if you're not interested in ramen. My boyfriend has gotten their yakatori and gyoza and they have not disappointed so far. I usually get their nigiri. The first time we went (saturday) the fish wasn't terrible, but it wasn't so fresh.. Last night (Wednesday) the fish was superb! It was fresh and melt in your mouth good! The best part though is their blackened miso cod! I CAN EAT THAT FOR DAYS! It is so delicious! Dana makes the dining experience so much better with her great service! Thanks Dana!

I wanted to try a new ramen place. Tokyo has a cool atmosphere, music and great decor. We ordered the Tokio Sashimi and it was delicious. We also tried the shoyu ramen and tonkatsu ramen. Both had a nice pork flavor but the tonkatsu was a little richer. We added a lot of siracha for a little more spice. All around pretty good but not my favorite. My heart and stomach still belong to Uncle in the highlands.

The best sushi in town. The curry ramen is awesome! We have tried everything on the menu. We drive 35 minutes for the best in town but it is worth it.

My husband and I went for the first time last night, and we really like the place. I'm ranking this as a 5-Star to be generous to a new spot that is in a challenged area. Very excited to see a real restaurant on my street! The ambience is quite good. We sat at the bar, which is nice. I'm not one for twisting my neck to speak with the waiter, but this may be more about me. (Orders are not taken from the chefs behind the bar. I think.) My waiter did not have any of the answers to my questions, but he was always quick to find them. And he was always accurate. The other waiter in my area was uber-congenial and piped in with fun conversation. We *love* this! (I should have gotten his name for next Tuesday.) Every food item that we ordered was nicely presented and delicious. I found the prices to be commensurate with the attention to detail -- we could watch the preparation. (I have annoyingly strict dietary needs, and no one blinked.) The wine list is not perfect. The bartender, however, knew his whiskeys. (Six stars for this!) Please, Tokio, work on your wine offerings -- $15 for a cab is a little steep, if that's the only choice in that realm. Also, drop the oaked Chard. We've all moved on; or we all should have by now. Thank you Tokio for delivering a great meal last night. We had a fantastic time. Great energy, please don't mess with the beautiful attention to detail, service, and hospitality!

Great place. Found this place by accident really. It's located in a jungle of apartment buildings, so I was going in a skeptic. The decor is spot on, the attention to detail was impressive. The food was great, service was on point. I have nothing bad to say about my experience here. I sat at the chefs table, which I would recommend doing. I thought the prices were fair for what you were getting. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

Tried just about everything on the menu, from the sushi to the yakitori to the shumai (best I've EVER had) to the ramen and all I can say about everything was YUM. GREAT service too, our waitress was super knowledgeable and kind and helpful. Grade A must stop by.

I've been to this restaurant for so many times but never received such terrible service before! The food itself was great. ( the taste of their food never disappoints me, actually) Service? NOT GOOD AT ALL! The visits I had before the waiting staff was all friendly and welcoming, but this particularly waiter provided terrible service! When I first arrived I asked about the baseball special(a bowl of ramen and a glass of house wine for $15), he gave me a very unhappy look but asked the hostess to turn on the TV to see if there was a Rockies game playing. The entire time he wasn't sure if there was really a game playing! Come on! If you offer that kind of deal you really need to promote it, or at least let your customers know whether or not they can get the deal! Not just giving them an attitude when they just want to confirm with you! That waiter was serving the table next to me. He always had a smile on his face when he served them, but the smile went away right when he approached to me and my friend. It was so obvious that anyone can tell he was having trouble smiling at us, like it would kill him to do that. He even talked to the hostess about what had happened, and obviously he was teasing about us cuz they kept looking at us. I felt so uncomfortable just sitting there. I don't know what issues he had against those who just want to get the deals they deserve to get. ( oh, that guy never mentioned it was free to add extra noodles to our ramen noodle soup until we discovered it by ourselves. He was very unhappy about it cuz he thought we caused him trouble. Guess what? He told other customers about the deal but not us! ) This waiter is an Asian guy. Me and my friend will go back just for the food. If it happens to be the same guy that serves me I'll definitely ask someone else to serve me!

This place was amazing! I come from vegas which has a lot of good ramen places as well and I have to say this place is just as good. I like the vibe when you walk into the restaurant it's very nice. The deco is also very aesthetically pleasing, the long wooden table it in the middle was very cool. There was also a second floor to the restaurant but we were seated on the first, so I hope one day I might be able to go and see the top. The food was also amazing! Very filling! We got the shirmp tempura roll, shoyu ramen, spicy shoyu ramen, and tonkotsu ramen. All very very good choices and I highly recommend them. The sushi they have is very delicious, it was pretty big but nothing my family couldn't finish and it was super yummy. I'll be posting a photo as well of the food. I would highly recommend this place for people who want a ramen, the service is very good. We had Jessica as a server and she was very very kind. Also the food is amazing, I plan on coming here often when I move out here to study.

My party and I was recommended to try Tokio by the owner of Domo Japanese restaurant after they couldn't accomodate a strict Vegetarian diet. Too bad for Domo, great for Tokio. It was frigid outside and my group wanted to wat something warm and healthy (ish). We drive by this place all the time and didn't even knew it existed. The sinage on the front is very small. We didn't see it until we came in the back entrance. The place is two levels and is decorated beauitfully. It is small but they seated us right away. My roommate and I ordered a yellowtail roll for appetizer. The fish was fresh and the roll was delicious. Was I blown away, no. I come from Vegas and believe it or not, but because they import the fish daily, sushi is amazing there. Even the small neighborhood places. I ordered the Spicy Shiyo ramen. It came quickly and in a beautiful bowl with lovel presentation (see pic.) I found the broth a little underseasoned. I was delicious but I was looking for a little more salt. I had to use the soy sauce to give it a little more flavor. The pork was cooked nicely. I loved the boiled egg. I want to cook all my boiled eggs like that. The yoke was soft and smooth. The noodles where all the way down at the bottom under a myriad of sprouts. I would've liked more noodles, less sprouts. But overall the food was declicious. I would like to come back and try again.

Went for the first time a few weeks ago -- Party of 3, got lucky enough to get seated at the bar directly in front of the Robata Grill. We got the Japanese Pickles appetizer to start -- good little snacky bites to pick at while waiting. I ordered the Tsukemen Ramen. YUM. I don't know if I will ever crave "assembled" ramen again! But then again, I'm a dipper. Burgers, fries, bbq, what have you... I like to dip! 5 star delicious. We also got the chicken thigh yakitori, just for the sake of trying it since it was teasing us right in front of our faces all night. Again, delicious. Next time, we're all dying to try the yakitori combo (looked like chicken wing, thigh, breast and liver that night). We shall return, Tokio!

Tokio it's a hidden gem. I've heard 0 buzz about this place and didn't even know it existed until a fellow cook told me about it and its late night ramen. A friend of mine and I went in last night to try many things on the menu and everything was delicious. we had the chef's choice yakitori. The Japanese style fried chicken, a bowl of some amazing ramen, a few different sushi pieces and of course some sake. I was thoroughly impressed. The decor inside was also really nice modern and unique. We sat at the chef's table so we could speak with the sushi chef and have him suggest items that we should try. He did not disappoint. I highly suggest trying this place, especially the ramen. I've tried many popular ramen places here and this one is the best so far. Try it....

Monday October 20th 2014. We went here for Happy Hour and Dinner. Yes it feels that we might be "transported" to a modern feel with some Japanese touch. We came at 17:00hrs and were the first few who decide to dine in here. We opt to be seated upstairs. From the Menu, we have both the Happy Hour (HH) and the normal menu which consisted of Grill items and Nigiri/Sashimi/Sushi items. Happy Hour Dishes : * Unagi ($2.00) * 2 orders of Tako Nigiri ($4.00) * 2 orders of Ebi Nigiri ($4.00) * 2 orders of Tamago ($4.00) * Spicy Tuna Roll ($3.00) * Curry Chicken Wing ($5.00) * Wasabi Tokio Chicken Wings ($5.00) * Shishito Peppers ($5.00) * Ikura ($2.00) * Agedashi Tofu ($3.00) * 2 Uni Nigiri at ($6.00) each, hence it was ($12.00) * Kobe Beef ($13.00) * Thigh Yakitori ($3.50) * Leva ($3.00) * WHOLE Squid ($12.00) * Trumpet Mushroom ($6.00) * Seared Tuna Tataki Salad ($14.00) * Ginger Ice Cream ($5.00) * Green Tea Tiramisu ($7.00) Highlight Dishes : * Agedashi Tofu * Shishito Peppers * Seared Tuna Tataki Salad * Ginger Ice Cream My friend like the Agedashi Tofu and the Seared Tuna Tataki Salad. TAKE NOTE the Trumpet Mushroom and Seared Tuna Tataki Salad, those come in HUGE Portion. Definitely GOOD and INDEED FILLING! YES, those Shishito Peppers are MIGHTY SPICY! SPICY that I like ALOT! Though I cannot deny my friend, said its TOO SPICY for her liking. The Ginger Ice Cream is creamy and indeed very flavorful. What can go wrong about House-Made Ginger Ice Cream! My friend opt to have 2 HH Japanese Beer ($6.00). I am torn about this establishment. There are some Hits and Misses about all the food we ordered. If its NOT for Happy Hour (HH), I bet we would have spent more. Anyways, they can do better in terms of the flavor of the food aka on certain items in the Menu. From the Appetizer Menu, I am slightly disappointed with the Wasabi Chicken Wings. The Wasabi Chicken, though has a taste of Wasabi, it DOES NOT WOW me! *SIGH* I am OK with all the Sushi or Nigiri order we had. As for the Desserts, I am disappointed with the Green Tea Tiramisu. YES, its elegantly made. Maybe I am NOT used to Green Tea flavor of any Tiramisu, hence the Green Tea might be OVER-POWERING for my personal taste bud. Service was indeed stellar from our Main server. If I am NOT mistaken, her name is Jin Park. Overall TOKIO has potential to grow. I wish them well in their future Business Undertakings. I might return when needed if I am in this Neighborhood. Table : Mez 5 2 guests TOKIO 2907 Huron St, Unit #103 Denver, CO 80202 Tel : (720)-639-2911 @204/2014

どうもありがとうございました Dōmo arigatōgozaimashita Taking my cue from Jimmy Fallon, I have to write a "Thank You" note to Tokio for a really lovely dining experience last night. First of all, thank you for hiring professional, adult staff members. Both Dominic (host) and Meg (server) were so polite while being very friendly, welcoming and great at their jobs. How often do you find that these days? Second, thank you for having a wonderful Japanese design aesthetic. You've created a serene, elegant yet warm environment in which to relax in a lovely little jewel box of a restaurant in the heart of the bustling Ball Park neighborhood. Third, thank you for having two happy hours! We arrived just as they opened at 5:00pm so we were able to save a few yen on selected small plates and sake. Started with an ample serving of Blistered Shishito Peppers in ginger sauce ($5) - absolutely yummy but a couple of those babies were HOT - careful. Also, sampled a few of the $2 sushi offerings (eel, tuna, yellowtail, salmon) - generous cuts of very fresh fish prepared by the owner. All enjoyed while sipping (not very daintily) their cold house sake served in overflowing lacquer boxes ($3) - worth the $1 upgrade from the usual hot sake. OK, full disclosure we had two rounds - goes down easy and the perfect foil for the wonderful food. Fourth, thank you for the show. We sat at the sushi bar and watched the pros at work. On the end where we sat you are directly in front of the Bincyo-Tan Japanese Charcoal Grill. We were here for ramen but next trip I'm definitely going to sample some of those beautiful morsels hot off a sizzling cherry wood fired grill. I seriously considered doing so last night but saved room for the ramen. Finally, thank you so much for "getting" ramen. Absolute perfection. Noodles with just the right amount of chew and broths deeply flavored. We sampled both the Miso ($15) and the Shoyu ($13). Very ample portions for the price. Meg said her favorite was the Shoyu so I jumped on it and was glad I did as I preferred the broth to the Miso my dining companion enjoyed. Both wonderful though. (See the photo of me pigging out - thank God for good chopsticks skills). Five stars is my Yelp thank you for creating a wonderful new oasis of Japanese food and hospitality right here in Denver. Thank you very much indeed. We'll see you again soon.

Definitely not the best I've ever had, but there's definitely worse places I've been for ramen. Walking distance to me, and I'm pretty happy it's here! I've gone a couple of times and the only complaint I have is that some of the stuff is quite pricey compared to other places I've been too. Will probably come in more often when the weather starts to become more chilly!

A really great joint with equally really great atmosphere. We got 'stuck' at the bar when we really wanted to be upstairs, but we learned to make reservation next time-- and there will be a next time. Plus, we got to speak with the chefs and watch the cookin' go down. But we'll likely walk there as opposed to driving (I live downtown (half-time)); street parking near all those lofts has always been a nightmare (for that liquor store, too). We crushed a survey of the menu: ramen, sushi, and apps. All of it was amazing. Most amazing was the Japanese whiskey, and I can't remember which one it was, but my girl said it was the smokier one, so DEF try that. She even made it on the rocks when I asked for just two cubes, so she gave me the one and made me a new one-- two cubes-- and only charged me for one. Very classy, and very, very much appreciated. Get at this joint.

I FELL FOR THE HYPE! My friends and I were sorely disappointed by the ramen here. This could be one of two reasons: 1. It was too hyped up in our heads so our expectations were higher. 2. It was just simply not good. I've had ramen from many different places, from Cali to New York, from Canada to Japan and this is not even the best in Denver. When I went, I happened to bump into various tables of friends. My table of 5 and the other table of 4 just didn't think it sat very well when we got home. Let me start with the venue. It's awesome and nicely decorated. It has a very clean feeling and the staff is super friendly. There is an upstairs and downstairs so there is definitely ample seating: Tip: There is parking in the garage on the side. My best friend and I ordered the Tonkotsu ramen because I like a more flavorful type of soup. My opinion of this ramen: 1. It was WAYYYYY too salty and I understand, that ramen in general is a saltier dish but I added hot water to it and it was about as salty as the places I have been to. After the addition of hot water, I enjoyed my ramen a lot more. 2. They followed the traditional method of having thinner noodles, which is nice that they are keeping to tradition. 3. The egg was done perfectly. My other friend ordered the miso ramen: 1. Too bland. This should have a bold and strong miso flavor but I'm not sure what happened. Maybe the addition of the bean sprouts watered the base down and changed the flavor or something. 2. The noodles were of the thicker variety, which is accurate. 3. There was just nothing spectacular about this one. Tsukemen: 1. If you didn't know, this is a dipping ramen so the soup should be thicker and on the side so that it may evenly coat the noodles when you dip it and this should be a stronger, saltier flavor since it is a condensed version of the broth. Their version is the chilled version and I think I just personally prefer the hot version. 2. The noodles were decent. These were the thicker, chewier noodles. 3. I liked Uncle's side menu version better. I bumped into another friend who said his curry ramen wasn't bad so if I ever go back, I'll probably try that or their side dishes. The only thing I feel like they really got on point was the egg! The meat was not as fatty, which some people may like but I mean, with ramen, the meat is supposed to be a fattier, no point in cutting back when you've already committed to such a fatty dish itself!

Been here a couple of times for ramen and thought it was just ok if anything but certainly not worth $14 a bowl. Then again could you blame them given the location of this place? The place is nice and they even have a second floor. Their yakitiori was delicious. Chicken liver was very rich and creamy.

Realized that we still hadn't been to a restaurant that opened up last year in our 'hood called "Tokio." Looked it up on Google Translate and it means "the" in Lithuanian. Kind of a weird name but decided that I haven't had any good Lithuanian borscht and rye bread in ages and so this evening we decided to stop on by. Holy Kibinai! 'Tweren't no Lithuanian nothin'. Was a new-style Japanese noodle / sushi / bar / binchotan / eatery / drinkery. Turns out one of the scions of Denver sushi--Mr. Miki Hashimoto who ran Japon sushi house on old South Gaylord for almost 20 years--has gone a little hipster and is now rockin' it out at this very authentic ramen shop. Mixed and matched some charcoal grilled binchotan delicacies with some ultra fresh sushi (will do the noodles the next time), along with a big ol' carafe of sake and very much enjoyed this new neighborhood hot spot. Bottom line: A rare and splendid delicacy: 珍味佳肴 Sign me, David "Daizu-wa hatake-no niku" M

I'm not sure how I missed the boat on this whole ramen thing but I'm in now! Tokio is one of a few places in the area that does ramen very well. Any dish that has the word "spicy" in it gets my full attention, as did the cremoso diablo ramen. It was not overly burn your face off spicy but just enough to make you feel alive. Good balance between spicy and flavor in a HUGE bowl! The Japanese style fried chicken (JFC) was pretty stellar as well. The mayo based sauce that it is served with the dish complemented the fried batter and chicken well. A bit spicy but nothing that is going to make you need milk or even water. The space is pretty hip, there is a sushi bar and a handful of tables downstairs along with a small bar and more seating upstairs. It's deceptively larger than it feels with the open floorplan. Service has been above par ... looking forward to my next bowl of ramen!

Unbelievably good Tuna Tataki appetizer - super fresh tuna with a piquant, but not overbearing yuzu sauce. The Tonkatsu Ramen broth was phenomenal - deep flavors, well balanced. They don't make the noodles in house, but wherever they get them from does a great job. Service was very friendly and the owner even came over to have a glass of sake with us. On that note, their sake menu is great and a relatively good value. Went on a Saturday and it was a little slow. Just moved into the neighborhood and would like to see it do well (but not too well - waiting in a line for ramen is a joke).

I can't say enough about this place. Absolutely the best sushi place in Denver - hands down. Normally I don't like tofu but their Miso soup is SO good. I can't get enough of it. I haven't gotten the ramen because the sushi is too good. I get take out from here at least once a week and came in and sat at the bar for the first time this week. The waitress was perfect and the chefs were really friendly. When I get take out I almost always order 4 rolls : spicy yellowtail, California, Diablo and rock n rolla. When I came in the other night I tried the sashimi (amazing) and 2 other rolls that I can't remember (1 was a hip hop maybe? And the other one was warm with spicy mayo on it) but seriously - best sushi ever. It is so dangerous living so close.. I really don't understand why this place isn't packed every night but I'm not going to complain :)

The first time I went I had the curry ramen. I hated it. The broth is incredibly thick, almost like beef stew or something. But I live across the street, the environment is great and it had good reviews. Second time around I had the tonkotsu ramen, which was really good. The broth was great and the noodles were perfect. I wasn't crazy about the pork in it though. It was sorta grey and dry but I don't really like pork to begin with. We also tried the cremoso diablo which has great flavor but a gritty texture towards the bottom of the bowl. And again, hate hate hate the pork. It's grey and dry and gross.

My first experience with Japanese food was very positive here. Our waitress was delightful and directed us to the best items on the menu. Our kids really enjoyed the saki and sushi. I ordered a noodle bowl that was fabulous. Call for reservations as their online system doesn't work. You can park in the parking garage behind Whiskey Tango if you are a customer.

Superb RAMEN finally comes to Denver!!! Hands down the best ramen outside of L.A. Sure there are other ramen joints in Denver but none can compare. You must try the "tonkatsu" broth based soup, it rivals anything you could get in Socal. An added bonus....they have an authentic "robata" grill, featuring yummy hardwood grilled meats and vegetables.

On the hunt for good Ramen in Denver? I found a place I think you'll like. Nestled in next to Coors field, this joint is sure to please your palette. The space is small and there seems to be upstairs seating. The cool part is there is a lot of seating around kitchen, so you can watch them prep food as you wine and dine. We sat right in front of the meats getting grilled away to perfection. The service was fantastic. Waters were filled several times throughout the meal. A man who might have been the owner also stopped and asked us how we were doing and how we were liking our food. My friend and I both ordered ramen bowls- the ramen air and the spicy shoyu. I tasted the broth of the ramen air and it definitely contained more flavor than you would imagine. I had the whole bowl of the spicy shoyu and it was awesome. It had a nice kick without being overwhelming. There was also a good amount of pork and veggies. The noodles were definitely cooked to my liking. If my tastebuds tell me correctly, I think they were fresh noodles. I will definitely return. Still a bit more pricey than I'd like a bowl of noodles to be but in this case it's worth it.

Experience was good. Staff was very polite and service was good. We sat at the sushi bar which was fun to see sushi, ramen, and yakitori being prepared. Would not recommend this place for sushi though. We had some unagi which was mediocre. We tried the yakitori since it seemed to be a staple here. It was mediocre. Most pieces were dry. The best was the chicken thigh which had a nice smoky flavor and wasn't as dry as everything else. Tried 2 of the ramen bowls. The noodles were good. Had a nice, chewy bite too them which I like. I enjoyed the miso ramen a lot. The broth was flavorful and not too heavy. The egg in it was perfectly cooked. The pork wasn't chewy. Good experience overall. Also tried the spicy shoyu which was a little salty for me, which is saying something because I love salt.

Had a great experience at Tokio! I ordered the teriyaki chicken and my boyfriend had the curry ramen. The chef also made us an appetizer that wasn't on the menu that was to die for! The chicken was good, but I wish I would have ordered something different because their version of ramen is different and better than anything I've had before. I'll definitely order a ramen next time I come in, which will be very soon! We also had the tiramisu which was incredible. I'm really impressed with not only the food but the great service as well.

For being outside of Japan their miso ramen was excellent. It had a super flavorful broth and the pork tasted great. We also tried the Age Kara and the Hip Hop roll. Both were super yummy. The place is a bit small but has a great atmosphere. Definitely a place a plan to return to.

I liked this place over all. Shoyu Ramen was tasty. Waitresses were polite. But there were some pieces of strings from the braised pork in my soup. Told them about the incident but nothing was done. So make sure to check what you eat before you actually eat your food.

Tokio probably has only been around for about 3 to 4 months but the owner chef Miki-San has been in the Denver restaurant scene for many years. He used to own Japon and sold the business, went back to Japan to perfect his ramen skills, and brought himself and his skills back to Denver, lucky us. For those people who wrote that their miso ramen is not good, I'm sorry you have an American-ized taste buds. Their miso ramen is actually pretty authentic. I personally like a little lighter taste on the salt so I thought it was a tad too salty for my taste on all of their ramens (I have tried the curry, the tonkatsu and the miso). I really love the squid and the grilled skewer stuff like - chicken breast, chicken liver, kobe beef, pork, chicken wings.... Also had their pork and onion katsu, that was delicious with the mustard. As well as their sushi. I LOVE their hamachi sashimi, so tender and so tasty! Their agedashi tofu was also authentic, I love the mochiko powder on the outside... with delicious hot broth.... yum! Apparently the last few Fridays we have made this the Friday spot for us, love the fact that they have covered parking behind their restaurant. It will come handy during snowy days. They are open from 5 PM to 1 AM everyday so this will be an amazing late night spot with late night Happy Hour that is really a great deal!!!! Thank you Miki-San and Edgar! The wait staff are really nice as well. Thanks Tokio!!!!

Been dying to try this place ever I saw my friends photos on Facebook. The place is a bit hard to find, maybe because there was construction when we went, but once you're inside, it has a great welcoming atmosphere. The staff was super friendly and made recommendations from the apps down to the ramen. We got this really good sake which was cool and refreshing. Got the chef's choices for the yakitori. Can't go wrong with bacon wrapped meat on a stick! The sashimi was also very fresh, love salmon and tuna! When it came to the ramen, I got the tsukemen and my boyfriend got the Cremoso Diablo. My tsukemen is a dipping noodle where you dip the noodles in a concentrated broth. They only serve it cold there which I was a bit disappointed with. My bf's ramen had a blend of cheese in it which actually really works and was surprisingly good! I liked it better than mine anyway. Was going to try their green tea tiramisu but I was so full so I definitely must go back for that!

I am not sure if I will be able to try anything new for a couple more visits. Gorgeous inside and friendly service. Tonkotsu: the bestest Yakitori combo: tasty, nice char Gyoza: WOW Service: A Ambiance: A PARKING: A

AMAZING Ramen!!! I usually get their ramen to go, so I very rarely eat in their restaurant which is two levels but feels very cramped and loud. I ordered 2 Spicy Shoyu ramen to-go and asked for extra broth, which they charged me $6, for extra broth! Not cool. But it's so good I'll keep coming back, I just won't get extra next time. Staff is friendly.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! It's a cute little ramen place. It has some seating on the second level and a sushi/yakitori bar. As mentioned it's a small place so if you have a big group, I'd suggest doing an earlier dinner time, otherwise you might run into issues with having a table even if you make reservations. Our group of 6 made reservations at 7:30 but was seated much later than that since the 4 tops were still hanging out and they couldn't fit us into anywhere else. They're super apologetic and comp-ed us some stuff for the super long wait, plus we were having drinks while waiting so we didn't mind too much. I've had their tonkatsu ramen and had a taste of my bf's ramen air and they're both good. It's one of the few legit ramen places in Colorado. It's a cozy place, exactly how I'd want my ramen place to me. Ramen and yakitori are food you enjoy with close friends over beer or sake, so I like the warm and open decor and friendly atmosphere. You see people having fun with their group or just chatting with strangers sitting next to them at the bar. I tried their chicken breast yakitori as well and liked the charcoal flavor with the chicken. I've also tried some of their other appetizers like grilled squid, pork cutlet, potstickers and shu mai, all great. I haven't tried their sushi but my friends had and they said it was good as well. $14 might seem a bit high for ramen, but for the amount of work that is involved into making good soup bases and using good ramen, I think it's well worth it. It's like asking why would an Italian place charge $14 for spaghetti with meat sauce when a jar of marinara is $3. All in all, I love this place, and would definitely bring friends there for a fun night of hanging out. Tip: there is parking behind the restaurant.

I have to disagree a bit with the prevailing reviews. As a whole, we didn't love Tokio. My friends, who eat a lot of Japanese food, thought the hand rolls and the ramen were not as good as at some other places. In other words, they said it was "good" but didn't rave about it. I definitely didn't love the curry ramen. Only one of us, my husband, really liked what he had. Based on that, we can recommend the cremoso diablo (made spicy). The atmosphere and service were both GREAT!!

Congratulations! You found this place! When we made our trip down here, the entire area was under construction and surround by the skeletal start of apartment complexes. Setting aside the fear of parking in five points amid a darken construction site, we raced inside. Ok maybe I'm the only person led astray by this, and it's totally my fault, but when someone talks up awesome noodle soup, I think PHO! Ramen, is not Pho. It is not pho made with ramen noodles. Pho and ramen are nothing alike. This was bitterly disappointing to find out. Again, my bad. I know. But... Come on.. Who doesn't love pho?! So with that unfair biased chiseled in my brain, I got my ramen - which again, not pho. The service was amazing! The appetizers were amazing! The ramen... Was not pho. I ordered the wrong thing because while everyone else was raving about their bowls, I couldn't get over how bland mine was :( So again. Great amazing place if you know ramen, love ramen and aren't thinking pho. D'oh.

Thank you Tokio for an amazing birthday dinner (well thanks to my friend but thanks Tokio for providing the delicious food & the beautiful space). I'm from the bay where we hyphy & go dumb but more importantly, where ramen is a-PLENTY & the competition is fierce. Denver ramen scene? Lacking. So, when Tokio opened I was psyched but also very skeptical. My one MAIN critique for the ramen is that the pork is not as flavorful, tender or beautifully cut as maybe 5-6 other ramen places I have tried in the bay. You do not see the marble effect of the meat with the fat and the flavor is much blander compared with traditional chashu meat. With the negative being said, let me talk about what I did love about this place and why I am giving the 5 stars: 1. interior decor - It's hard not to enjoy yourself in such a cool space. The ambience really makes this place a cute date spot despite ramen being a much less date-like menu item. There is an upstairs area with a small bar and a downstairs area with a giant raw wood table & the sushi bar 2. texture & flavor of ramen noodle; the noodle was shiny and had just the right amount of chewiness to it 3. broth that wasn't too salty (though traditionally the Japanese eat the broth much saltier); I actually drank all of my broth which is usually difficult for me to do given the saltiness of more ramen broths 4. cool red soup spoons that were the perfect size for slurping some soup 5. deliciously marinated agedashi tofu appetizer - this is a top contender for "what would you want your last meal to be"; it was flavor packed and texturally interesting; it had an elastic consistency on the outside that prevented the tofu from degrading & falling apart; I would absolutely order this again 6. music- they played a lot of Frou Frou, Imogen Heap, Lana del Rey & other similar artists (though I didn't like that you could also hear the Pandora commercials- upgrade to Pandora 1 you guys!) I also tried the sparking peach sake 250ml for $12 & the green tea tiramisu (A+ for creativity). This is only my 2nd time having ramen in Denver (I have had ramen countless times in the bay area). That being said, I concur with other reviewers about this being the best ramen place in Denver (the only other place I tried it at was the modern Vietnamese restaurant next to Olive & Finch-cannot remember the name). Don't trust Ramen from a Vietnamese spot. But you can trust the Ramen here @ Tokio's.

First time. Really liked it. PROS: * The Diablo roll is crazy good. * Sashimi very fresh and tasty. * Very friendly service. CONS * Crazy small, and parking in that neighborhood is a nightmare. * The gyoza were burnt on one side, but they served it to us anyway. That's always disappointing. Overall, though, that diablo roll will bring me back!

All of their ramen is great. All of it. And the sushi is great. All of it. It's very fortunate that they're open past midnight if you're getting late night munchies. The yakitori from the charcoal grill is also delicious. I really look forward to coming back many times and actually trying most of their menu.

What an experience, a super great experience! I have been anticipating dining here since it opened in early August, and I just couldn't wait any longer. This place feels like it's been open for years instead of just 2 months, the service is fantastic and watching the chefs in the open kitchen from the bar was mind blowing-it is truly like watching performance art-that you get to eat! We stopped in during happy hour (5pm-6pm everyday, and a late night one as well) and started off by ordering from that menu. We ordered sashimi ($2 each), shoshito peppers (good portion for $5), and small hot sake carafes (only $2 each during happy hour). The sashimi were delicious, all cut and arranged artfully in front of us. The peppers were really good, the sauce was perfect. I really wanted to get down with some yakitori items, but came here for ramen so I needed to leave some room, so glad I did! I ordered the tonkotsu, my friend ordered the curry. DAMN, my bowl was so good, that broth was absolutely sensational and the egg oh so perfectly soft boiled. My friend enjoyed his curry ramen, but was surprised it was like actual japanese curry, thick broth almost like a sauce instead of a soup consistency. He still praised it highly and finished every last drop. At the end of our meal our server brought a beautiful and complimentary plate of delicious ice cream and strawberries. I got a chance to speak with the owner, Chef Miki Hashimoto. He was very nice and humbled by my gushing compliments, he really wanted to let us know that the noodles are made in house and that he had spent a year perfecting his method on making the perfect bowl of ramen. So glad he did. The space is very nice, sleek, and especially comfortable. I have had my fair share of ramen, and I must say this is by far the most authentic in Denver, a bold but true statement. And get this, M-S they are open from 5pm-1am, Sunday 6pm-12am. Late night ramen! The prices are completely reasonable for what you receive, perfection. Our bill was only $55, and that included 5 small carafes of hot sake. Totally a deal in my pocketbook. Oh Tokio, you are going to be so popular.

This place is wonderful. If you go, sit at the bar, in front of the grill. Its the perfect place to be if you want to be a fly on the wall and observe. Its not the best ramen i've had, but its great nonetheless. The staff is also very friendly.

So happy there's decent ramen in Denver. Everything was delicious here. Only thing I thought was unusual was that the California roll was particularly mushy. Also, their Gyoza was very loose. The karaage was made with dark meat, which I've usually had with white meat, but it was still good. I'd come back for sure.

After watching this restaurant get ready to open over the course of a few months, I'm very pleased to find out that it's a ramen joint! They also serve yakitori and other assorted Japanese small plates, but I'm mostly excited about having ramen within walking distance and away from the LoDo crowds. Tokio is a little out of the way from the main LoDo/Ballpark area, and the seating area is fairly small. There doesn't seem to be a wait to be seated just yet. I tried the miso ramen and my husband had the tonkatsu ramen. The broth was very flavorful with the miso ramen - a little sweet, a little sour, and a bit creamy. The soft-boiled egg in the ramen was very nice too, and a little cool in the middle, which I liked. I can't wait to come back and try the yakitori!

This place is cute. I enjoyed the setup and its new so there wasnt much of a wait. We were seated onto the second floor outlooking the dinning area. My boyfriend and I tried a variety of their different menu items. We expecially liked the japanese pickles that were served. I had to get a second order! The fried tofu was pretty bland. Nothing really amazing about the flavor. Pretty plain. The ramen was pretty average. I enjoyed the plating of it and it came in a pretty large sized bowl. It is a little overly priced too since the broth is the main showman of any ramen. The whole chicken plate I would pass on. They grilled different parts of the chicken, but it got kinda dry and one dimentional when I got to the chicken breast. They had a tiny amount of sauce at the bottom and I definitly, needed more of that to add to the chicken. Plus, I wish they gave me a bowl of rice to go with the chicken instead of just the roasted chicken parts alone. Sadly, I was a little annoyed at the end when the chef came out with the table next to us. He started pouring drinks and shots with the entire table. They were watching a game and it got too loud. It felt a bit disrespectful to my boyfriend and I because we were trying to have an intimate romantic dinner. We could of gone to a sports bar if we wanted to be around drunk noisy people. The setup is cute, but I doubt I will be coming back here again.

Tonkotsu Ramen was tasty and perhaps a little heavy on sesame but I'd go back for that, too bad it's $14 and not $9.50, but I suppose we all have to help pay for the hipster rent. I think they could focus on the noodles a little bit more and include more without having to pay for extra, this is what ramen is all about, isn't it? You can't even see any noodles when it's served. I'd like to see what a Japanese person would say about the Curry Ramen, it tasted one-noted with heavy curry flavor that I didn't enjoy at all, and seemed to have some thickener in it. Didn't try anything else. I think $9 for a glass of wine is also unfortunately common now too. Sushi in the case looked fresh.

Sad to see my rating for this place go down.. I visited Tokio four times and nothing beats my first experience here. The ramen and everything was spot on! Since then, every time we went the ramen got saltier and saltier! Tonight, even the appetizer was salty! After dinner, I needed to get a gallon of water because of all the sodium and dehydration! The main difference between all my visits is the chef. The first time I ever visited Tokio, the owner was the one cooking our ramen. The second, third and fourth time we went, other chefs were cooking our food. Thus, this is my tip: If you know the owner will be in, I would recommend this place for their ramen! If the owner is not in, I would recommend the sushi. Although the sushi is ok here; however, for the price of sushi, I would rather go to my favorite spot. So, if the owner is in, go ahead! Enjoy. If not, get ready to drink a gallon of water after your meal!

I think this place can be really great in six months. I came here for dinner with a friend. We split gyoza and the yakitori sampler (which included bacon-wrapped asparagus, chicken thigh, chicken breast, chicken wing, and chicken liver skewers) for appetizers. And for our main courses, we ordered tsukemen (me) and shoyu ramen (her). What worked: -First of all, great concept and great menu. Personally, I'd like to see some expanded varieties of yakitori in the future -- especially chicken skin, hearts, and gizzards -- but I'll take what I can get. The fact that this place takes yakitori seriously is awesome in and of itself. -The noodles, at least in the tsukemen, were great. Springy and just a bit al dente. -The bacon-wrapped asparagus and chicken wing were standouts. Really exceptional. -The ambiance was quite nice, and the decor was tasteful. I especially enjoyed that the bar was made out of marble with a solid wood extension. -I tried some of the shoyu broth. Tasty and complex. -Great service. Everything came out quickly, and we even got some free ice cream. Sweet. What could use some improvement: -I was unimpressed by the chashu, which was bland and dry. If I had to guess, I would say they roasted an unseasoned (or lightly-seasoned), un-marinated pork loin in the oven for about an hour, and then sliced it for the chashu. Note to Tokio: pork belly is much tastier. -It would be nice to choose between salt or teriyaki seasoning for yakitori. -The gyoza were kind of soggy, and, at $7, way overpriced. Aoba Sushi gets it right and for half the price. -In general, the prices were a little high. I know we live in a world of $15 bowls of ramen, but come on, this is supposed to be a casual, drunk food sort of place. Maybe I'm wrong. Overall, I was quite impressed, and I'm excited to see this place blossom in the coming months and years.

I came tonight with my friends and family to try it out because they open late which is a plus since we all work until late. I was told here was pretty good ramen. So I drove here round 30 minutes and excited. The place was easy to find and was a great place. I like the quick service at first when we walked in and to ordering. But it went down hill from there. Our waters were not refilled even before dinner but refilled near the end even though we have appraisers, sushi and then their ramen. I thought the once piece chicken wings don't have any flavor they just put it on the grill for a while and then took it out. We asked for bowls and it took him two different times and the. It was sat on the plate with soy sauce in it. My friends order two spicy ramen and there was not a kick of spiciness. Curry noodles was nothing amazing about.

Hey Denver! Miki-San is back!!! "Bringing the culture of Ramen to Denver". The Bincho grilled meats were fantastic, the sushi and sashimi was fresh, fresh, fresh, and the ramen was amazing!!! They haven't opened officially, I don't think, but we lucked out by walking into a soft opening of some kind. Watch out for the shoyu (soy sauce) vessel, as it shoots out too far if you pour fast!

I've been eating a lot of ramen most of my life. Although, I've never had ramen here in Colorado. Been here 24 years and never had ramen at a restaurant. I was somewhat disappointed. The service was average. The food was average. Nothing was bad, but at the same time nothing was good. I had the tonkotsu ramen, which I thought was the best out of the 3 ramens we tried. We had the tonkotsu, spicy shoyu, and curry. Tonkotsu had the best broth and full flavors, while the other 2 fell a bit flat. We also had some happy hour foods, which consisted of some sashimi and chicken kara age (was like a deepfried chicken with a spicy mayo sauce) I can suggest a lot of different places for sushi, so I did not find it anything more than mediocre here.

Great food! The closest thing I can get to for authentic ramen (pride myself on being a ramen snob as being from Orange County) the staff is amazing and extremely polite. I got the curry ramen, and it was delicious. Big ass bowl of amazing Japanese noodles with a really good broth. One of the waiters was hella rude when we walked in but luckily he wasn't our server. I'm telling you: get the curry ramen.

Such a cute restaurant! I love the decor! Food was good as well. My friends and I got the agedashi tofu, edamame, spicy shoyu, and the cremoso diablo. Everything was good. Be careful of the edamame-it's spicy! The spicy shoyu was very flavorful spicy though. I especially liked the bamboo that was in there. Parking is horrible! Very few spots so we had to park behind an apartment complex a couple blocks down.

It was our first time in Denver and we got there after luggage and car pick up after 11. We were about to find this nice looking restaurant to have ramen. They seriously do an excellent job there. The creamy Diablo is unbelievable great ( it is a spicy miso ramen w cheese). It is one of my best spicy miso I tasted. Loving this place. Wish they open one in LA. Great seat, nice looking restaurant and opens to 1am!

This place is a hidden gem. Coming from CA, I've been looking for a really good ramen place. This is not even comparable to your store bought ramen cups and definitely different from vietnamese pho. We ordered the miso ramen, curry ramen, grilled squid, gyoza, kobe beef yakitori and sapporo beer. Grilled squid came out first. Tasty and not chewy (definitely fresh squid). You have the option to dip into the sriracha sauce or the dried chili powder for some added kick. The gyoza is next. This gyoza is really moist. Definitely not frozen. Just based on the size, you could tell that it was made fresh. Both ramens came out flavorful. The noodles are not soggy. The amount of meat is proportional to the size of the bowl. The kobe beef yakitori is so tender and juicy. Not overcooked. Service was prompt. Our server took the time to explain the concept of the place. Definitely a must try. Highly recommended. Additional point is for the parking space at the back.

I've been there several times. It is literally one of the best ramen I've ever had. Being as asian, i can understand why some of the comments are negative. Because the flavor and taste of their ramen is actually very authentic. So some local residents may not be able to enjoy the different tastes. Also, order their "tonkotsu ramen", dont' get "Miso ramen", this one is a little bit weird in tastes. The owner and staff work there are very friendly, my boyfriend and I went there once a week and sat at the same spot, every time the owner would gave us some extra food such as ginger ice cream, shumai and so on...even free shot. I highly recommend this restaurant!

I liked the vibe, the service was great, but the one thing I was hoping would be amazing was unfortunately far from it. I knew from the moment I looked at the salmon sushi that it was not fresh - it was rubbery, flavorless, light pink. Sushi is supposed to melt in your mouth. The end. If it doesn't, it does not meet my sushi standards. The yellowtail sushi (which says yellowrail on the menu...giggle) was superb. The pot stickers were also delicious. Rumor has it Tokio's specialty is ramen; should have ordered that, but I wanted sushi! Not sure I'll be back???

We went here the other night and it was absolutely delicious. We got a summer special and the cremoso Diablo and they were both really flavorful and great portion size. We sat at the bar and watch them make the food, sushi looked delicious although we didn't try it. We'll also come back to try their grilled food. Service was really friendly, highly recommend.

My boyfriend and I went for the first time last night for Valentines Day dinner and it was amazing. I had been really wanting sushi and Valentines Day was the perfect excuse, no regrets! We came in the back entrance so we could utilize the handicapped parking since my boyfriend is in a wheelchair. We called ahead to ask if it was accessible and they were very accommodating-big bonus for us! We went in and were immediately impressed. The sushi bar is the perfect height, the chairs are comfortable, the place is clean and pleasant and inviting. The prices are reasonable and because we went for Valentines Day they had a very nice menu of specials-including a really good martini I had. We will definitely be back! New favorite sushi place. P.S: Our favorite sushi we had was the spider legs with soft shell crab.

Short review: Bland broth, no spicy option, overcooked egg, untraditional toppings, OVERPRICED FOR VALUE. Go to UNCLE for a $14 bowl of ramen & be extremely satisfied (especially for spice lovers). I will not return to Tokio. Long review: I was really really looking forward to trying this place. I love ramen and frequently go to Uncle. I have had ramen many times at many places, including Denver, LA, Shanghai & Tokyo. I used to live near the owners previous restaurant, which was called Japon and mainly featured Sushi. I used to love that restaurant. After the owner closed it to open Tokio, I stayed on their email list and stayed up to date on Tokio. I love ramen and was really looking forward to trying Tokio. I finally had a chance to try it out and I was just so disappointed. I took friends who were in town for their last night in Denver here, and boy did I regret that. I tried the tonkotsu ramen, which is a pork broth with pork meat. This is the type of ramen I usually get and my favorite. I shared a bowl with my boyfriend and we didn't even finish it! The portion wasn't huge either, neither of us cared for it. The broth was bland for ramen broth. There was no richness and no spice, it was just meh. Ramen should have a killer broth, thats the best part! The noodles were really soft, I prefer medium or hard noodles. I do not like when they are big and soft like udon noodles. The veggie toppings were not traditional and included bok choy and carrots. I am used to eating ramen that is topped with lots of green onions, enoki mushrooms, and maybe some bamboo shoots. The egg was also hard boiled, not soft boiled. The meat was good, but everything else in my opinion was lacking. My biggest diapointment was that they didn't offer anything to make the broth spicy other than sriracha. I love sriracha, but really? No chili paste? No option for spicy broth? No homemade spicy anything? My appetizers were good. The japanese pickles were pretty gross, but the grilled shishito peppers were amazing (kinda hard to mess that up though...). I also had a fried onion dish that was excellent as well. Beer and saki were good, as it should be. Total check for 4 bowls of ramen, 3 appetizers, 1 large saki, 4 beers, and 2 hot teas was over $150 with tip! Thats expensive for a so-so meal for 5. Overall, I was very disappointed with my meal and will not be back. If I am going to spend $14 on a single bowl of ramen and over $150 on the total check, I will go to Uncle.

First, a brief background on me: I lived in Sapporo, Hokkaido which is the capitol city if the northernmost island in Japan for about a year in mid 20s. I am not Japanese and am by no means an expert on Japanese food, but can be a bit of a snob about it sometimes since the food in Hokkaido was soooo good. One of the regional specialties of Hokkaido is miso ramen, and I am happy and shocked to report that the miso ramen I had here was comparable. It wasn't AS good, no, but it was close. And I actually liked the pork better than a lot of the ramen I had in Japan because it wasn't as fatty. It was some of the best ramen I've had in the states, but to be fair I don't go out for ramen much since it all tends to be disappointing. We also got some decent gyoza and my friend had the curry ramen which he seemed to really like. We shared an excellent tiramisu for dessert which the waiter said is the only dessert they make in house. Not giving the place 5 stars cuz I did think it was a bit overpriced and I didn't love the location (atmosphere once inside is great, though), but I'll definitely go back here!

Went here with a date and sat at the bar. The atmosphere is modern and attractive and the wait staff were friendly and attentive. This is a place where you can really feel comfortable and taken care of! We shared yakitori as an appetizer and had a bottle of chilled sake. Then I had shoyu ramen and my date had miso ramen. Ramen is tricky under the best circumstances and especially at altitude, but the stock had a lot of flavor and complexity and the noodles were just right! This is the best ramen and yakitori I've had in Colorado and completely on par with what you get in a better ramen-ya Japan!

Very disappointing. Really wanted to like it, because Denver doesn't have much to choose from in the way of ramen. Very literally everything apart from the decor was a letdown. Spending $50 for ramen for two with 2 cheap beers and a fried appetizer is pretty steep for Denver, especially when the broth is bland, vegetables and pork are STILL COLD in the ramen, and the Japenese fried chicken appetizer actually took longer to prepare then the ramen itself (I shit you not, we were served the fried chicken appetizer AFTER the ramen). Bottom line: worst ramen in Denver, a hard mark to achieve in a place known for it's low standards when it comes to ramen. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Food was reasonably good, nothing special for pho, ambiance/style isn't bad. Service was terrible: My fiance loves seaweed salad and there are apparently different types of seaweed used in seaweed salads which, I didn't know, but she knows because she works at an asian noodle place. So, the server doesn't know what type of seaweed it is, that's nice, but then says he's never been asked that before and there's only one type of seaweed that he knows of.. Lo and behold, seaweed salad comes out...two different types of seaweed. More importantly, in the meantime we overhear the server telling his coworker about the exchange with my fiance and they both have a good laugh about it. Lastly, my fiance asks how the vegetarian noodle dish is and the server replies "I don't know because I eat meat." that kind of a dumb answer is that? From one server to another: know the menu. Pretty simple. And don't make fun of customers within ear-shot.

Went with a group of 9 people and shared some apps and we each got a bowl of ramen as well. We all agreed that the karaage, agedashi tofu, and shishito peppers apps were all pretty good. I got the Tokotsu ramen and thought it might be the best bowl I've had in Denver (of course this is going to require me re-visiting all the other ramen shops since it's been a while... ugh). The stock was rich with pork and the overused word "unctuous" was actually the right word for this soup. It was just a little too salty to call it perfect but it was full flavored and yes I drank it to the bottom of the bowl. The noodles had a nice "bite" to them that only alkaline noodles seem to have and they were cooked to my liking. The toppings (menma, baby bok choy, carrot, beni shoga, shoyu tamago, and nicely cooked charsiu) complemented the bowl rather well. I'll definitely be back to try some of the other dishes and probably in the not too distant future. Noodle brained indeed.

Trying this out after Oshima closed. Although good it was not "good enough" for this family of diehard Oshima fans. The noodles were a little too thick and we missed the whole pickled egg. I'm sure it will do well in this super busy neighborhood but we won't be coming back. Good luck Tokio.

Meh. Super meh. Sushi was Whole Foods quality, I guess, but we came for the ramen. Tonkatsu ramen was not great. The pork itself was not good. Broth was not flavorful. I had read such great things about Tokio. Super disappointed.

We had an excellent experience here! I have been wanting to try this place for awhile, and actually attempted to once but turned around due to parking issues (hint: there is parking in the back!), and finally got to last night (Saturday) around 9:30pm. Aside from going just because I wanted to try it, it's the only ramen restaurant downtown open past 10:00 on the weekends. Since we were arriving at the tail end of the dinner crowd we were able to get lots of attention from our amazing server. She is 100% what made this dinner next level. Incredibly friendly, polite, kind, helpful, and genuinely passionate about the food and her recommendations. I took the receipt just so that I could mention her by name because she deserved some recognition (it's Dana Shin!). Having been in the service industry for a long time I appreciate good service more than anything- it's half the reason we leave the house to eat out! We definitely felt well cared for here. Next up, the food. We started with some sashimi, salmon for me and eel for the boyfriend. I always judge a place that serves sushi by their salmon. If the fish is quality it will be soft and almost buttery. This place passed the test. I could have eaten 20 orders of their salmon sashimi and left happy BUT we came here just for the ramen so I restrained. We both had the spicy shoyu ramen and I have to say, the spice level was perfect. The flavors were intense and balanced and it just combined perfectly with the noodles and vegetables. Egg cooked perfectly, as well. I am not a huge fan of pork, so I imagine next time I will substitute it, but easy fix. I am actually going to have to end here because writing about it so much made me realize I have to heat up and eat the leftovers like NOW. By the way, they automatically separate the ramen for leftovers, which is a detail I greatly appreciate and will make this taste even better!

Well, we went in with high expectations since we had heard that the chef had a place before and was pretty successful. First off, the service was outstanding. Friendly, attentive, informative wait staff made that part of the visit very pleasant. The food, however, was very disappointing. The place just opened, so maybe they're working through the kinks, and what we had wasn't a good example of what they will be producing later, I don't know. The Hashimoto Sashimi was supposedly seared with olive oil and sesame oil, but we couldn't taste it at all. The overall thinness and small size of the sashimi was extremely annoying. Yes, this is a restaurant close to the downtown area, but this is still way too overpriced for what we got. The Miso Ramen was, well, terrible. The flavor was unpleasant, the quality of the pork was low, and the whole bowl was massively salty. They don't actually add any additional salt in the preparation, as they told us, but man it came from somewhere. I only ate a portion of the Miso Ramen, and took the rest home in hopes that I could salvage the udon noodles. The next day, the entire thing had congealed into a very solid lump, making me wonder just how much fat was in there. Ultimately, we just threw it away. The Seaweed salad tasted okay, but again the price vs. amount ratio was way out of whack, even for downtown. The little Yakitori chicken skewer was nice, but in reality you put chicken on a skewer and grill if for a few minutes. It's not hard. And, there was no added flavor, it was just your basic chicken meat that had been grilled. Overall, unimpressed. mytokio.com/menu-food.htm

Super solid. Not only for ramen (which I currently regard as best overall in Denver (having eaten at all the places in and around Denver, and finding most not worthy of repeating, except for maybe one oter), but overall quality is very high. Insanely delicious pickled veg, peppers, mushrooms, and sake. Cool and calm atmosphere. Haven't tried sushi, so don't known about that. This has been a go-to for me since its opening, and it is consistently great. Staff has always been pleasant and pro, and food comes out as it should. 4 stars because it's always so danged cold in there (some kind of air always blowing on me, wearing the hood on my hoody breezy)--I almost want to just eat and get out of there as fast as I can.

I was very excited to try this establishment. We had a large group and made a reservation for 8 PM. It was initially crowded and we were told to wait a few mins, next we were told our best bet was to have a drink next door. After a drink we check in at 9 PM and were told to wait another 15 - 20 mins. At this point it was unacceptable and we were rather annoyed. In asking to speak to a manager, we were told our reservation was made later in the evening and was not honored. No amends were offered and we chose to go elsewhere. I'm still hangry in writing this review.

I really like the food here, but it's a bit pricey. I've also come with my wife and been asked to sit at the big long log table. I'm not a stickler for personal space, but it's just too tight. I don't want to sit so close to another couple that I'm going to get confused about whose water is whose, or even worse, have someone sip off my beer. I sat down and gave it a try, but ended up feeling really uncomfortable. I like this place, and I'm stoked about having more ramen in Denver. I've had ramen in Japan and California though, and the ramen here isn't all that amazing. I wouldn't care if it was cheaper, but at this price range, I don't think it's a very good value.

We were regulars at Japon, the restaurant that the owner of Tokio, Miki, had for more than a decade. We had great respect for the quality of the sushi and cooked food there. We were happy that Miki opened a new place, and were delighted with our visit here. In addition to a limited but very high quality sushi selection, Tokio specializes in Ramen and grill items. Because the quality is high and the portions were very large, we felt things were very fairly priced. For example, for $3.50 we had grilled chicken that was at least half a thigh, maybe more. As for parking--we had no trouble, but who really expects free parking downtown anyway?

Absolutely fantastic! Beautiful ambiance, friendly staff and most importantly; PHENOMINAL food. The Mahi Mahi is amazing as is the Ramen ( I had the spicy shoyu)

Ive enjoyed popping in here for some apps and a beer, its right in my neighborhood so i walk over and i love that they are open so late. staff is kinda weird - but i think they get worn down running up and down stairs all night since there are two levels in this place i havent tried the ramen yet at the behest of other reports on here... frankly i feel like id be more interested in the grilled meat and save the ramen. the gyoza is great, theres also a berkshire pork appetizer thats fire, tuna rolls were on point i think they still have some work to do here though... will update down the road as i try more and things get better or worse ---------- Everything here is amazing and perfect now!

Miki Hashimoto, Owner has done it again! The "Shoyu" is off the hook...best ramen in town. In addition, the sushi is fresh - fresh - fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant for a truly exceptional Japanese dining experience.

Very swanky atmosphere and chique layout of the restaurant...definitely seems like a gem hidden in the Five Points area (then again there was a lot of construction nearby when we went). Staff was friendly and the service was good...the ramen is delicious! Although somewhat pricey, the portions are generous. Perhaps the only thing I would change is the sliced pork in the ramen...not that great. But overall, I will definitely be back!

i know this might sound like heresy, but I think the broth here is better than Uncle's--and I love Uncle. And the fact that they served whole charcoal-grilled squid doesn't hurt, either. Any self-respecting ramen fiend ought to check this place out!

TO THE OWNER: Very very upset tonight. This is my first review because my ramen just wasn't ramen! From first taste the noodles were spaghetti like, clumped together (no joke!) and when slurping up broth with it I couldn't taste anything but blah! It wasn't the bouncy alkaline noodles I had been craving and expecting. After asking my server for spice, the ramen had created a little more flavor in my mouth. Still, THE NOODLES!! After the first bite I figured they weren't fresh, so I asked my server, he informed me that this establishment cannot afford a noodle maker. WHAT?!?! I'm making this short and to the point... IF YOU CANT AFFORD TO MAKE NOODLES IN HOUSE YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE A RAMEN RESTAURANT! I will not come back or even recommend this establishment until broth is more flavorful and they have fresh noodles (no matter the cost) those are the two things should be a requirement to opening a ramen restaurant. Period.

This place was so good! It's a hidden gem and i am definitely a fan. We sat at the sushi bar and the sushi chef Manuel was so friendly. The ramen was so good and perfect. It hit the spot on the cold day we went in. SO good! Hard to find good ramen in Denver. Definitely recommend this place!

Sat at the bar after a day of skiing. We made it just in time for happy hour. The agadashi tofu was amazing! and the pork ramen was definitely on point. It was so fun to watch them work in the kitchen. The older gray-haired japanese cook is amazing, and slings ramen around like crazy good.

Of the new ramen spots popping up in Denver, Tokio takes first place: better food, better ambiance, and better service than its competitors. If you're game for squid, theirs is exceptional. (And yes, every Ramen option is amazing.)

Every thing was super fresh and delicious. Good happy hour menu. Although they don't have a kid menu the chicken skewers ($3.50), dumplings and Japanese fried chicken are perfect for kids (although my kids also gobbled down maguro which was ok since it was $2 a piece during happy hour). The ramen was super yummy and enough to share. Our server was very attentive to our kids and offered a fun Japanese soda and little tool to help them use chopsticks. This is a part of Denver that is very young in it's gentrification; I support it entirely and will return.

We had reservations for 5 and arrived a little early, it wasn't a problem and we were seated right away. Great atmosphere, it was busy and everyone liked happy. We ordered off all sections on the menu and it was almost great. We tried some new things, like sea urchin and whole grilled squid. The sushi was amazing as was the Ramen and ginger ice cream. Our server, Jessica was a delight. We traveled from NoCo and it was worth it.

Like others have mentioned, the decor is nice and staff is friendly, hence the two stars. I really wanted to like this place, to believe that we might have something more authentic to look forward to. Ignoring all of my friends comments on this place, we went and reserved a table for 5 on Saturday at 7pm. The whole "there is a secret garage to park in the back" wasn't working. Had some valet guys post up at the entrance and 5-6 spots were blocked off with cones. Walked into the restaurant and told the host, and he was surprised as heck that some guy was the "Valet" in the back, but insisted the valet was up front. Showed up at 7, the rest of our party arrived a couple minutes after, but were still made to wait for 10-15 minutes, even though out table was right up front, ready and empty. No rhyme nor reason on why this happened. Started dinner off with a nigori and a couple of beers. Shishito peppers were good, gyoza was good, but lacking that starchy webbing crust that real japanese restaurants master. Kara Age was lacking the salt in the flour dredge. Kushi Katsu, I'd save your money. Next we tried the Yakitori combo. Was served a skewer of liver, chicken thighs, aspara bacon and a teba. Liver was cooked great, same with the bacon. Chicken thighs were dry, chicken wing was blood red next to the bone. Ordered a couple more beers (Passed on another bottle of sake, much better variety then the snow beauty they served), and out came the ramen. The bowls looks nice, but I see now what my friends meant by very little broth. First thing I noticed on my fiancee's ramen was the amount of bean sprouts. I don't recall bean sprouts being part of ramen, especially more bean sprouts then noodles. Spicy Shoyu was neither spicy nor had Shoyu flavor. Broth was water down and very basic tasting. The 3 pieces of pork was dry, not melt in your mouth. The egg was a touch below hard boiled, but definitely not soft boiled. One of the things with ramen is presentation, presentation was lacking here. Wasn't feeling the mood for ramen, so just ordered a side of the Aspara bacon and liver plus a side of rice. Liver and bacon was cooked no where near the first order. Liver was burnt and dried on the outside, still raw on the inside. Bacon was burnt on the outside, white and boiled on the inside. Seemed that they rushed it. I did hear the tuna tataki and kobe stick was good from my friend. So not all was lost. 1 sake, 5 beers, 5 appetizers, yakitori combo, 3 additional skewers, 3 ramens and a mochi. Grand total $230 without tip. Needless to say, won't be going back again. Not sure what all the reviewers were talking about best ramen, and all the raves. But the noodle costs 50 cents, I know, cause I buy the same noodle Tokio and the other dozen or so ramen joints buy as well. You are paying the bucks for the assembly of your ramen and also the labor involved with creating the broth. That wasn't there

Ramen Air was sooo good. I am already looking forward to going back. I am excited to bring some friends there to check it out as well. I know where to go when I am in the mood for Ramen. It isn't super cheap but also not super pricey. I think the quality of ingredients deserve the price tag. The flavor was delicious and keeping me wanting more!

This is, without question, the best ramen in Denver. Nothing else even comes close. As far as American ramen places go, Tokio is comparable to Ippudo in NYC or Ramen Tatsu-ya in Austin. Superb. Amazing staff, too. Very, very highly recommended. Great space, too. Nice date spot. And I absolutely love that it's open until 1am every night (except Sundays, when it's open until Midnight). So good.

Service was a little slow, but very friendly and helpful! The chef behind the Sushi bar/grill was friendly and talked to me a lot. The food is superb and the happy hour specials are amazing! I am a big fan of the Shoyu Ramen. I look forward to going back again.
