3Kings is amazing. My first review is about it as a music venue. But, as a bar, it's top notch. I just sat and talked about Greece austerity, the reasonableness of the euro, and the importance of child protective services. All over some nice gin and tonics served by MF Ruckus's lead singer. We wrapped up the discussion with a real amazing comparison on the importance of community. As I drove home, I realized how much 3Kings itself is about community. Pretty rad.

Hoppin place. This was the very first place I came to after flying into Denver. Met up with a buddy here. There was a comedy show happening and (I think only once before) have been to a comedy show. I hate laughing and fun upsets me. But, I figured it would be nice to meet him here and have a drink and listen to some funny (and unfunny) people. Man, one guy was just terrible and just yelled the whole time. But I did get a sense that most of the comics were of the post GenX era, as a lot of references seemed quite specific to my teenhood. There were many pool tables there, the space is pretty large and is able to accommodate for shows nicely. The bar is big too, with a good selection on the tap. It was pretty crowded, and I don't feel as though it would be the sort of place I would like to frequent or come in on a regular basis. If there's a show of some kind I think I would be content to go.

I have only been for the burlesque night a couple times, which is five dollars and features amateur and professional performers. The five dollar entry does not tip them, so when they bring around the hat, throw some money in, those costumes are expensive. I have never seen a show here, but they do have music, so no word on the sound. I would classify this as a dive bar, and a cool place to lurk. The burlesque happens every Monday night, and is a great distraction from boredom, this event has been going on for many years. The bartenders here are entertaining, and awesome. The crowd at the burlesque events are chatty, and you might even make a new acquaintance, they also sell posters during burlesque night. Me likey!

Three kings is a great bar to stop into if you are hopping around Broadway. They have a stage for live music, friendly staff, and a good selections of food and drinks. No rooftop unfortunately so not my favorite place for the summer.

I've been mixed on 3 Kings for years now, it's not that I'm the oldest bastard in there (I never cared) or that the goings-on tend to be noisy (it's a bar, get over it), it just boils down to a few things: Pros: Location - awesome place and within walking distance of a dozen other great watering holes with tons of character. Beers - great selection of awesome libations, I expect nothing else from Denver SoBo. Interior - divey, yes. But arthouse cinema on the screens behind the bar? YES PLEASE!. Cons: Sometimes the clientele. Yeah I know this is a horrid thing to say, but a few of you regulars know EXACTLY what and whom I am talking about. The aggro "I wanna fight" morons, the drunk rockabilly "someone take me seriously please" loudmouths, all the stereotypes that made SoBo mildly interesting ten years ago and just irritating as all hell now seem drawn to 3 Kings like moths to a bugzapper. I do dig this place, I have no real quarrels. I will be back to soak in the vibe, but it doesn't take much these days to annoy me into moving on, and there are plenty of sublimely cool options very very nearby.

I have been here over the years so many times, yet haven't reviewed it as a place to hangout... DUH, I have enjoyed myself everytime.. It's not the place to go if you aren't interested in interesting crowds or loud music! This place has an interesting rock ambiance, but it's drowning at the deep end... I mean, this place is a dive bar! Enter at your own risk!

Great small venue to see a show. The always have good bands playing and the bartenders are awesome. Highly recommend stopping in to catch a show or just to hang out.

This place is dead on a Saturday night. I came here to see a band and I won't be coming back. I have been in a lot of sketchy bathrooms in my music-hunting days, and this is the absolute WORST. Filthy, broken, missing parts- I wish I hadn't drank anything all day. Bartenders are rude. Band was well over an hour late. Water is served in a plastic jug which makes me wonder how many people have spit in it. Nasty. Must miss.

On Friday night I was sitting at the bar buying a older gentleman that frequents several other s Broadway haunts a beer It must have been shift change as the blond waitress that served us walked towards the back a laid a big wet one on the male bartender coming on It was Open mic night n the poor comic completing his set bombed and I casually commented to my fellow patron that the comic wasn't funny the bartender coming on went into a rant at me and displayed he has no business being in the so called "Hospitality" business I would justly categorize him as possibly the biggest dick I've encountered in many years I've been to this bar on several occasions and had great service and comradely. That being said I will not patronize this establishment again as there are way too many neighboring options who employ cordial servers

Sucks that I'm writing this review, but I just want to express the poor treatment I was dealt as I was trying to help a sick friend tonight. She wasn't even drunk, she was just out in the sun all day and needed water. I went to purchase her a bottled water as she sat onto the curb but was told they were out and was informed that there was a water station. I went and filled her and myself a plastic cup of water and tried to exit the place, only to be harassed by the doorman for taking out open containers. I tried to explain to him that it was water and that they were out of bottles so it was my only option, to which he aggressively and rudely responded with, "try telling that to the cops when they get you with an open container." But it's not an open container? Am I confused by this? He might have been stressed out...

Don't get me wrong, I'm just as at home in the sh*ttiest dive as I am at the Hotel Teatro but this place was odd. Really odd vibe. Like, "We should blow a few lines then go to the Three Kings" odd. My company and I had shown up for the open mic comedy.. but there was nothing going on and no music playing. Huh? They had pinball and I'm a fan of all arcade games so that was fun. The bartender was normal, nothing bad here. Bathroom was a rock bar bathroom. I mean, what else do you expect. Left after a couple drinks. I guess I'd have to go again on a "good" night to really see what it's all about.

This is literally my favorite bar in town. I go here regularly with friends. They have great music, an awesome old school punk vibe, a gallery down stairs, and a very helpful and friendly bar staff. The lighting is great, not too dark, not too bright. They have a bunch of arcade games, a really great stage setup, and pay-per-game pool tables with quarter slots. I've seen a ton of fantastic local metal bands play here, though lately they've been branching out into more hipster friendly bands(bleck). The bathrooms are always terrifying, but it's a hole in the wall bar, so what do you expect? Go here to enjoy atmosphere, badass people, and great music and art.

Visited this classic south Broadway dive bar last Saturday, for some ear piercing live music. This bar has character, but the beer is lukewarm, and they may be out of your favorite locally brewed beer The bar is spacious. There is a couple of pool tables and a mixture of pinball and arcade games. No ambiance, just dive. Great stage and dance floor. Great place for live music. After reading other reviews and hearing a comment from another patron, I was afraid of the bathroom, so I avoided it. Good place to go for live performances, and warm beer, but don't expect anything else.

Chill, free pool. I will admit I've only been to three kings for one reason, pub crawls on Broadway. That being said, I've been several times for this purpose. If you go during the day, it is quiet; there are usually some regulars at the bar and maybe a few people playing pool so its a great place for a quiet drink or with groups who have plenty of room to spread out. The pool is free (at least during the day it is). There a bunch of pin ball machines; they even have tetris! The bar tenders have always been really patient with my pub crawl scavenger hunts and are always really chill.

This is just a grab ass good time folks, saw a chick kung fu jump kick up off her stool and knocked a guy's drink out of his hand. She didn't get booted. Then I saw Batman at the bar ... in January. Finally, I nearly split my jeans dancing like a fool to some good old Rock and Roll. Three Kings Tavern is like a strange dream, then again I was drinking. Solid... Cheers

Three Kings just fires up the punk rocker in me. Even if there's no band playing, the urge to mo-hawk my head and throw on a Misfits shirt just gets harder and harder to resist each time I walk in. I really enjoy any chance I have to come down here. there isn't much to say about it, it's got a big stage, a big pit, and a big pool table area. It's also got a BIG row of draft beers, and some pretty friendly staff. There's always good music, and the art gallery in the basement makes for a nice place to check out from the crowd and noise if it gets too much. It's a punk rock haven nestled in with the eclectic bars, restaurants and shops that line this stretch of Broadway. If you have an inkling of underground in your persona, you will feel right at home here. The crowd won't judge ya!

  • Crys A.

This place is definitely different. Dark, oddly decorated, hot on a cool night. Strong drinks, 24 ounce PBRs, tats everywhere and interesting burlesque shows. A band called Panties On The Bar. Three pool tables and metal in the background. All in, quite the experience.

Fun! All I have to say. Hahaha. Been here a bunch and still a fun music joint.

  • Tiffany N.

Sometimes Three Kings is dirty. Sometimes it's loud. Sometimes it's quiet. Sometimes it's calm. Sometimes it rocks your panties off and leaves them in the green room because it's so rock and roll. For live music in a small venue, Three Kings has some of the best sound around. They don't always have the best bands for my musical tastes though. So, that's unfortunate. But, when the bands I like are playing there you can bet your collection of vintage LPs I'll be there watching.

Love, forever. Even when it's dead it's still fun. Bartenders rule, specials rule, they have fun shit going on all the time. Amazing burlesque every Monday. Pool, pinball, Big Buck Hunter! Haha.

Out of all of the venues for UMS, I probably found myself at Three Kings the most, which was a good thing. The stage setup made for a good time whether you wanted to be up-close-and-personal or hang out in the back. Drink prices were very reasonable, and bar staff made some mean drinks. No shows going on? Would still be a cool place to hang out with pool tables and arcade games.

This has to been my favorite bar on Broadway for awhile. They have great space so the possibilities are endless, art shows, bands, Monday panties night! They have a punk rock garage sale once a month or so, you can really get some cool things at. They have a wonderful happy hour with really good specials. They also have old school pinball which is a ton of fun. They can charge a cover on nights where they have a band playing and sometimes to be at least it seems silly to charge a $7 cover on a Sunday night for a band no one has heard of, but if you get in before they charge cover, they won't come hunt you down for your $7. So words to the wise always show up before 7:30 or 8 to save.

I've only been here a handful of times and still can't make up my mind about this place. positives (+) ~large space for bands, drinking and dancing, and even a little pool. ~a decent selection of beers on tap, all pretty cheap. ~cool/fun vibe that keeps me coming back. negatives (-) ~cover charge on show nights. lame. ~the bands booked...are well amateur and after a few drinks, they get even worse. sorry :( ~slightly trashy and dirty. never once have i seen the bathroom clean. despite my love/hate relationship with three kings, i'm sure i'll continue to go and support my local broadway bar :)

I normally don't frequent these type of bars but decided to check out a show with a friend. The bar isn't huge but still has lots of space to play their selection of entertainment such as pool or pinball, as well as some other games or just dance (it is a rock bar) to a live band. We were there on a concert night with some local bands, so there was a cover (7.00) but was still very low key and not crowded at all. The music played through the speakers was soft, which is nice so you can actually hear yourself in a conversation. I found the bar staff to be friendly and quick to offer another drink as the last was finished, then again I was sitting at the bar right in front of the tap line, which also has quite the selection of beers to choose from, the beers were 3 dollars when we were there. I would suggest bringing a bottle of hand cleansar along with you in the case you have to use the restroom. I'm sure its just the rocker atmosphere they are trying to accomplish but the restroom was just too much for this guy.

3 Kings is a great bar! Great place to have some drinks. Went on a weekday and they had a pretty good band playing. We played some pool and hit up the pinball machines. The place has a lot going on. Everyone was having a blast! Awesome bartenders! Sara, my new crush, is so cool and hilarious. Hope she reads this... Jessica was also great. She was talking about some vinegar-watermelon thing she puts in cocktails, sounds crazy, but good. They were getting slammed, but held down the fort. I love the ambiance, the staff, and the good times. 4 stars

Another awesome dive bar with a stage for live bands to add to my list. Been here for a few punk shows and once on a Monday night for the Burlesque show which was quite entertaining :o) The sound system is actually half way decent tho sometimes its hard to tell depending on who's playing. The Bartenders are always attentive so you don't have to wait too long at the bar which always seems to be crowded and the toilets in typical dive bar style are a dump!

  • Taryn N.

great people who dont care if your punk or not you can dress any way and people here are always friendly. Clean bathrooms for a smaller bar. Great bartenders with good looking faces. Monday nights are the best. Always a lot of hot bi girls. Cheap drinks. A lot of cool stuff to look at. A lot of great bands!

I still love you 3 Kings!!! You are truly the greatest Rock and Roll bar in Denver!!! Nothing can compare and if you think anything can, you have something wrong with your head (IMO). If you've been there, then you know. If you haven't, then you don't. My one and only complaint is they could make the bathrooms much nicer.

Perfect for those looking for decent drinks, dark corners, sticky floors and live music. U gotta be in the mood for it to go there.

Fun times at Three Kings Tavern. I would always go with a bunch of friends on Monday nights to watch burlesque. The summer of 2009 there was a lot of good talent. I've gone recently and I feel they have lost their sparkle. There are still a couple of girls from that summer that are really good. The show is really late, it starts usually at 11:30pm. There is like a $4 cover and they have super cheap tall boy PBRs. The place is usually pretty crowded for a Monday night. The bathrooms are pretty disgusting and the place is pretty dingy. But its always a good hipster time.

  • David S.

Has just about everything I look for in a late night bar, but I do kind of wish that I didn't have to pay cover so often. I do any way though, this place rocks. Let me count the ways: PBR tall boys, perfect cross-section of Denver subcultures as the crowd, stiff-as-hell mixed drinks, the staff has a lot of fun just about every time a band isn't playing (I've seen 70s exploitation flicks projected on the walls while Easy Rider played on the TV), I've challenged a lot of people to the suspiciously well-kept pinball machine collection...plus it's centrally located. If you do a Broadway pub crawl of any sort, this had better be one of your stops. It'll probably be your last.

OK, for being pretty well known as a punk rock venue/bar in Denver, this place is pretty focking clean! I went and saw a band play here over the weekend and really enjoyed not only the performance, but the way I got to experience the performance. Now, I have horrible hearing, so I couldn't tell you if the sound system is good. All I know is it was loud. And that is good. They had two bar areas up that night and it made getting a beer super easy. Also, I'm going to say here and now that I may be in love with their lady bartender with the awesome red hair. It could be love, or it could be the fact that she was one of the fastest, nicest bartenders I've ever seen in a crowded concert setting like that. Sometime I'm going to go and play some of those pinball machines they have on one wall. And by play, I mean put a lot of money in and lose it very, very quickly. Also uncharacteristic of a punk bar, the bathroom is insanely nice. I mean, like, Macy's nice. Like if Macy's decided to go punk nice. God, I love a good, clean bathroom. As several other people have stated, the unfortunate thing is that this place rarely has bands that I want to see, so I don't get to go here as often as I might like. And with a cover charge on most nights, I tend to choose places where I am guaranteed that the entertainment will suit me.

  • Peter M.

I am torn. I like to stop in to the Three Kings, because you can almost always find a cheap draft beer there. Nevertheless, it is kinda scummy, and the last time I was in there I kept getting harassed by some jackass trying to sell me on his crappy CD or some such shit. I don't care how divey a bar is. If some random street vagrant comes into your establishment and starts bugging your customers, KICK THEM OUT or tell them to sit down and mind their P's & Q's. Other than that, they do have a good line up of live entertainment for very reasonable covers on a regular basis, and it's in a fun stretch of Broadway.

Cool interior. Lots of awesome artwork on the wall and cases full of collectibles. Nice Big Daddy Roth paraphernalia hanging around the place. Got a $2 PBR on draft and played a couple rounds of Last Action pinball.

Personally I find the space a little slick for the otherwise modest location amidst boutiques and antique stores...and some of the servers a bit snobby. But it does create some vibrancy in the rebirth of SoBo so hey, I'm good with that. The beer was cold and the partrons hot.

Got nothing to do on a Tuesday night? How about free pinball at 3 Kings? That's right, I said FREE motha'fn Pinball! I've been to some of the best shows of my life at this bar. I've also been to some of the worst shows of my life here. It's hit or miss at this place, but always an adventure.

Not a dive bar. Just going to go right out and say it. If you want Dive, go a few doors down to Brown Barrel. 3 Kings always has a cool, damp atmosphere that has the lingering smell of a bad decision or two. When the bands get going, it gets loud- LOUD! I have fallen in love with a band or three here just because they have played this venue. For the most part, the bands they book tend to be on the rock and roll, punk, rockabilly side of things. Pick the right night and you'll either cozy up next to a bunch of scrawny punk kids or a group of burly biker guys. Monday nights are billed as "Panties At The Bar" night. I've been to a few of these, infrequently, and I'm not even sure what it means anymore. Hang around long enough and you see burlesque performers take off their clothes on the stage (well, down to pasties and panties). Depending on your tastes this will either be a fantastic sight or a horrifying one. After the show the Pawn Tucket Trio plays out the night. They aren't bad at all, but they also aren't a trio anymore (last time I saw them they were a six, maybe seven piece band). 3 Kings. See it. It's a gem.

  • Colin M.

The fun is here on Monday nights. We went this past Monday night and had a great time. There was a jazz band playing before the Burlesque show. Monday nights are "Panties at the Bar" night where the brave and uninhibited are rewarded with a free shot. The Burlesque show is done by the girls from Oh La La, their gigs are entertaining. One of the bartenders, Fanny, did a hilarious act. She was awesome. They have a display case that is full of all sorts of interesting conversation starters. There are all these random figurines in there. Next time I am going to check them out after the night of drinking is through and see if I have a different take on their figurine collection. Three Kings Tavern is part venue, part dive bar, and full fun. The experience was worth a repeat visit.

Denver's best rock bar hands down. Make sure to attend monday night panties at the bar. good "clean" fun. sometimes the bands are crap, then we do a shot and head down the street to hi-dive.

I liked this place a lot. Large venue with a dance floor. Pool tables, yeaaa! The bartenders were cool and they had a large selection of beers on tap and in bottles. I wasn't a fan of the particular band that was screaming that night, but I'm a big fan of local bands and the bars that support them. Live music yeah!

    (4)
  • Josh Y.

People at this bar all looked like they were out to have a good time. The crowd was with all 3 bands that played that night. The layout allows for good movement of people. Which is good because I wouldn't want to be squeezing by a lot of the folks I saw there.

There are a lot of cool bars in Denver. In fact, there are a lot of cool bars in this five block stretch of South Broadway. But if you're looking to do some serious, no-holds barred drinking, Three Kings is your place. I guess if you had to pigeonhole Three Kings into some sort of genre, you could call it a Metal/Hard Rock bar. But that's not really it. Unlike "certain other South Broadway bars," you don't have to conform to a particular clique to feel welcome at Three Kings. They take all kinds. They're an Equal Opportunity Drunk Factory. Granted, if you aren't into scary, screamy, gutteral music... the live acts probably aren't going to be your cup of tea. No matter though... just hang out on the bar side and leave the stage show to the fans. Just be prepared to fork over a cover charge (usually no more than $5), even if you're not there for the live show. And who knows? You might actually like the band! Or you might actually not. Here's an Insider Secret: make your way to the bar and, when you have the attention of one of the friendly, easygoing bartenders, hold your index and middle fingers together and tap them against your chin twice. Then hold up your fingers indicating how many you want. You've just ordered a BlackBall (or two... or three... or four...), the bar's secret shot for those "in the know." Hand your keys over to your designated driver and try to hang in there, champ. Oh... and good luck.

I love Three Kings. There are a few reasons why. 1. They treat bands really well. Any and all of my friends who have played there always make comments about how they love to do it. They seriously hook the bands up, and I love to support a venue that is good to local bands. 2. They have Mickeys bottles. 40oz. That's pretty rad, and very cheap. 3. The bartenders are efficient and nice. 4. The area out front is always interesting. 5. The sound is good and the booking agent or whoever books the bands is good at picking great bands. 6. Pinball! Now, let me warn you, don't go to Three Kings if you're all uptight about clean bathrooms, crowds, or noise. It's effing loud, and the doors on the women's bathrooms don't always shut. Another downfall is that the door guy is almost always an a-hole, and the last time I went the show was supposed to be 15 but Three Kings decided to raise it to 20. When I pointed that out to them, they only charged me 15, but they were overcharging a lot of other people. That in itself is the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars. enjoy!

Currently the best punk rock dive bar in Denver. They have great live shows, a good beer and liquor selection, reasonable prices and a good wait staff. Pool tables, a lot of room, and the kind of environment you expect from a good dive-y bar.

3 kings has been a awesome spot since they opened their doors a few years back. I can't say I've ever really had any problems here, although one thing that I wish would become a staple for all venues... and this is just my personal preference is if cover charges can be paid with a credit card. I don't have an atm card and since I only use Credit cards.... no debit cards... I have never known my "pin" and I've had to leave 3 kings cause I only had my card, which was lame. But overall... awesome venue, great staff, Jim - one of the owners- is super cool and always treated me like VIP, which is probably one of the reasons I keep going back. Also, they have a art gallery in the basement... no one knows about this... but it's pretty awesome and when pbr or camel throws an event at 3 kings then I've seen the gallery host food, photos and of course art. My only recommendation... is check their schedule of bands, cause depending on the night... you will see a crowd you may not have expected. And I saw someone else mentioned the "Punk Rock Garage Sale"... whcih is awesome! Attend!

  • Jeremy H.

I am not a fan of this bar and here are the reasons: the bathrooms are disgusting, there are sometimes more bartenders than customers, and it is expensive (3 dollars for a PBR...really?). The customers are an assortment of smelly South Broadway bum mixed with smelly wanna be punk rock. The only redeeming quality that this bar has is that they get a variety of bands and the sound is good. I think as a venue, Benders or even the Hi-dive is a better choice.

  • Jesse K.

It's a great punk rock dive bar. If cheap beer, pinball, loud punk music and hanging out with fellow enthusiasts of those are your thing, you'll love this place. If you like your beers microbrewed and overpriced and your music top 40/dave matthews, you'll hate this place. They also have a monthly punk rock garage sale with all kinds of cool used records, artwork and collectibles for sale. It's also free to set up a table.

I love me sum 3 Kings. Well, at least most of the time. It's not really my type of music 99% of the time, but that remaining 1% has lead to some very dear discoveries. Also, the sound here is spot-on. The first non-metal/non-punk/non-rockabilly band I saw here was Red Orange Yellow (now defunct, but whatever - you can still listen to em online). The second band along the shoegazey line was The Overcasters, who I was *really* impressed by. And thankful to the 3 Kings for having a wide array of bands even though they seem like a niche venue at a glance. And yes, the bathrooms are scary and should be avoided if at all possible. But it's worth a trip for the Burlesque and Boylesque shows, Panties at the Bar nights, fun pinball machines, pool tables, and good strong drinks. They also have a small art gallery downstairs where I've seen some good if not interesting stuff by local and national arteests.

Service,service,service....may only be tailored for the clean looking folk!!! Not for the B-Boy business owner's or people of color. What I mean by this is, because I don't dress like, act like, vibe like your everyday client?!! You may be completely overlooked as a client. This may not be the opinion of the ownership but as captain of your ship...you must groom or hire the best in the field. Enough can not be said for other establishment's that understand this protocol. We too are in the service industry and are in contact with thousands of people in the course of a month and believe you me, we are spreading the word of this bullocks!!! We don't need this food, we choose it. But not anymore. On the flipside. The wings were fire!

I rarely go other than Sunday afternoon, but, as far as I can tell, this is the best day drinking bar in Denver. Cheap, free pool, no attitude, and scratch-offs! Actually, damn you 3 kings! That scratch-off machine keeps eating all my tips from Saturday night! Down side...3 K almost always charge a cover at night because of the bands. That said, most of the bands are really good and worth paying for, but they WILL make you pay, even if you're just there to drink and couldn't care less about the band.

Added to the list of dive bars I wouldn't mind visiting again... in that I have the ability to take the good with the bad. See below examples for further information: The decor is Ed Hardy meets the guy living in mom's basement who just can't let go of his rock and roll days. The bathrooms were... as expected for a dive bar with the aforementioned decor. The service was decent in that we rolled in after a concert, ordered drinks and got them. It was not packed shoulder to shoulder It had a fun feel to it, and is on Broadway close to some other cool dives (which helped when contemplating star number three to award the A-OK rating.)

I really enjoy this place. Is it because of the pinball? Yes Because of the great music they bring in? Yes Because of the 40oz Mickeys that make me feel a inch taller after I drink one? Yes I think this is probably one of the best bars in Denver for a guys night out.

Great hang out, and big supporters of the local music scene. Panties at the bar, Mark Star karaoke, DJ nights, and good live music, you cant go wrong. Staff is friendly and prices are good.

  • Joe D.

I definitely enjoy this bar. Everytime I stop in, the staff takes great care of me...possibly too well sometimes because they don't have a problem cutting me off, haha. The drinks are cheap and the shows are always reliable. I saw Velvet Elvis there and was blown away! With Arms Raised was a great punk show but I was too drunk to give it a good listen. All the patrons are very cool, people are always open for conversation and they don't have that "clicky" mentality like a club. I like Monday nights there since it is a little slow and the whole theme night is pretty fun. During the day, it's a great place to stop in for a beer or 10 and at night there is usually some great entertainment. This place gets packed on Friday and Saturday nights so be prepared to bump shoulders. This place is has a very rockabilly vibe but is enjoyable for anyone whether or whether not your wardrobe is influenced by the rockabilly scene.

The 3 Kings is quickly becoming my favorite music venue in Denver. Why? Here's a list: - Great layout. Large bar in the front, adjacent to another large area with pool tables, chairs, etc. and a good sized stage and floor area in the back. Why is this important? Because I hate going to a show where, when I'm watching the band play, I'm having to deal with the people that are interested in doing anything but being quiet and listening to the music. The 3 Kings is set up in such a way where everyone can do their thing, and not step on the toes of others. - Awesome staff. Everyone that I've ever dealt with their has been top notch. The peeps behind the bar are always friendly and super efficient. - Great sound that is almost always spot-on, regardless of what kind of music the band is playing. - 2 BARS FOR BUSY NIGHTS! Nothing worse than missing half a band's set cause you're waiting in a line 5 people deep at the bar for a drink. - Retro pinball machines. - A display case full of rock paraphernalia and other assorted toys and goodies. - The wall covered with comic book covers. Really, it makes me happy. Seriously, the place kicks ass, and I'm super stoked to have it as part of Denver's already killer set of independent venues. I humbly bow down to the 3 Kings. Cheers!

Not a ton to say, I really like the place, it's a great dive bar (which I like). Good prices, good service, good music.... All around it's a great place to hang out and have some good times.

This place is just cool!..came with some friends visiting from LA thinking it was just another spot on Broadway. 3 Kings exceeded those expectations...not sure if the '3 kings' in Miami will even be able to do that!! A custom Kings 'Red' Ale on tap brewed with a little help from Breck Brew doesn't hurt. The music and decor are all original...including pool tables and art in the basement not sure that you could pack much more into the joint. Will definitely be back to have my 3 beers fit for royalty. There was a small cover, but think of that as collateral to make you to stay for a bit and keeps the crowd thinned out.

I would give one more star if they had AC. I love this place, but i sweat my balls off each time i enter. Great musical talent combined with the eclecticism of South Broadway. Love it.

I have never had a bad time here (although a buddy and I had an incident just after leaving we would like to forget, but that was unrelated... welcome to S. Broadway I guess). It's kinda hard not to enjoy yourself here if you like good eclectic music. They have a great bar, pool tables, a stage with a dance floor, pinball, comfy booths and almost always a good crowd. I might give it 4 stars, but I have to give extra credit to the owners for turning a very ho-hum bar into Denver's best small live venue (and that whole "as good as it gets" thing... in this town, it is). In the top 3 of my list to look when I'm trying to find something to do in this godforsaken town.

The best Rock Bar in Denver....a jukebox that has ONLY good music in it, Shiner on tap, great bands, great feel, art gallery downstairs, Panties At The Bar and a vending machine with Murder Ranks tapes for sale!

The population of Colorado is basically comprised of people you'd expect to see at a Third Eye Blind concert, so I was pretty excited when I found a little watering hole that was right up my alley. It had pretty ridiculous vintage art framed and hanging all around, it looked pretty crusty, there was a juke box, I was stoked. Because of the ambiance, I'll give the place an extra star, albeit begrudgingly. That star is for the owner, who I really hope reads this and fires his Tuesday night bartender. I am not sure if it's because I am an "out of towner" or because I am a girl, but I was treated like a piece of shit wiped off of the bottom of the bartender's shoe. I got into an altercation (ok I had a few drinks) with a gentleman who later explained that he ended up in colorado in '92 after throwing a dart at a map while he was high on meth. He looked the part, and prior to hearing the story I was pretty sure that his history was something along those lines. The altercation was over a pool cue that I threw on the ground after "jokingly" being called a not-nice word. When the bartender came up to handle the situation I was relieved that someone would put this buffoon in his place, but no. That is not what happened at all. The bartender basically told me to shut the fuck up or get the fuck out. I was baffled. The way he spoke to me was as if I was a 6 year old who had drawn all over the walls, rather than a grown woman who was being harassed by a looming meth head! Unfortunately we had a tab, or I would've walked out right there. As we left, though, I heard Insane Clown Posse playing and I realized that maybe these people weren't the chic kind of rock and roll trash that I am used to, they were simply put...just trash. boring old smelly white trash and this bar embraces it. Denver is a perfect example of how stupid white people can be when they don't have any brown people to intimidate them into behaving themselves. Fuck you, Denver, Fuck you, Three Kings Tavern.

Free pool during the day, live music at night, bar tenders who are on a mission, and even an art gallery downstairs. What else to you really look for in a bar? This is one of the jewels of the Baker District.

Has pretty much all you want in a dirty bar: Cheap strong as hell drinks. Great stage set-up. Free pool til 7 each day and all day Sunday. Cool bands and cool jukebox. Great location.

  • Kelsey C.

It has the atmosphere I expected, all rock n roll. There is a nice little stage set-up and good sound in the bar, I would like to go there for a show. But I wouldnt go there again to just hang out or if it was a band i didnt LOVE. I consider it to have little seating compared to space, there's nowhere to sit when a band is playing. The noise level is obviously a problem if your'e hanging out with friends and plan on talking at all. That combined with a fucked up pool table that has the wrong balls and swallows the cue is enough to keep from going there just to hang out. But like I said, going for the purpose of attending a show is appealing to me.

Ah, 3 Kings, my home away from home! You know you may drink too much when every bartender, doorman, and barback knows you by name...oh well! The "3 Kings" who run the place (Jeff, Jim, and Marty) are so friendly and helpful. They make sure their bar is clean, inviting, and staffed by great folks at all times. 3 Kings consistently books great local bands, and occasionally awesome national acts. I saw an incredible High on Fire concert there, and I met my kick-ass boyfriend at an Iron Maidens show at this bar! Even love can bloom in the warm embrace of 3 Kings. Awww. The crowd here varies depending on the entertainment of the day, and ranges from neighborhood locals to punks to metalheads to burlesque girls to guys who just want to watch the football game. Whatever the crowd, though, the vibe is always welcoming and chill. After banking hours, you can park in the bank's parking lot across the street for free. Hooray for no parallel parking! The only downside to the 3 Kings is that the sanitary integrity of the ladies' room tends to deteriorate very quickly on busy nights, and it seems like the worst warm-up bands are always cranked up the loudest. All in all, 3 Kings is the place to be on Broadway!

  • Steven M.

Great little rock bar. Good selection of beers on tap, three pool tables that you can actually play (when I was there it was FREE!), looks to be a mellow crowd. Felt like my kind of place.

    (3)
  • David S.

Three Kings is more than just a bar to me. Three Kings is a place that my motorcycle brothers and I can get together and just chill over a beer and talk. We have only been to one concert, and it was purely by accident since we were there before the band even came in to set-up. I like the feel of Three Kings. The bartenders are all pretty relaxed and the other clients are all pretty mellow too. This is not a fancy bar, a fern bar or a place to bring your parents when they come from out of town and want to take you out for umbrella drinks. Three Kings is gritty, with hard-pounding music and lots of ink showing.

    (4)
  • Carl P.

only popped in for a beer or two, but it was pretty busy in here...definitely a locals fav. beer wasn't too cold and the waitresses need to pretend to be a little happier about working here. a little dirty but it is, for the most part, a divey kinda bar.

I remember this place from my punk rock phase. Ahh... those were the days. It was called The Cherry Pit. Then there was the fire that changed it all. No more Cherry Pit. It was changed into Three Kings Tavern. Still love it. Last night I went to see a show there and the sound was great, the drinks were cheap and strong. Plus, the staff was SUPER friendly. I also love the crowd that the Three Kings draws. Friendly, not creepy. Helpfull and funny, and almost always rock-a-billy. SWOON!

Great place, and it's nice to see familiar faces when I go home. Seems like everyone I grew up with goes here. Also, I've ran into a few people that I met at this bar at Red 7 here in Austin, TX!

  • Gene X.

Love this spot - totally laid back bartenders who are attentive but without attitude. I kinda felt like I was in Seattle in this place and it was refreshingly not overly-hipsterized. They even have a pinball tournament on Sunday nights which I participated in and realized just how sucky I am at pinball compared to the regulars who were getting free games galore. I had the 90 shilling beer there for the first time and I dunno if it was the altitude, the time change, or just that I hadn't eaten anything but Attune bars all day but I got a buzz off two of these. Great spot that I totally felt at home at!

Great place! I've gone out for the night without any plans or people to meet and have had a great evening on the spur of the moment. highly recommended. Also, if you are a musician, it's the best place to play in town besides red rocks.

3 Kings is host to much more than she boasts in my lifetime in Denver. The venue changed names 3 times that I can remember in the past decade (60 South, Cherry Pit and South Park Tavern?) and I am sure there is a lot of history from there. Downstairs and backstage has always been epic and I have seen many a great show since it has been 3 Kings from Burlesque/Boylesque to Nebula 2 weeks ago myself and the pictures on the wall indicate much more. Perhaps its a little tattered because its a great place in which a variety of greatness takes place. This Friday there is an art show with 4 bands, followed by the annual punk rock garage sale in September, and I am sure much more to come from this one.

  • Carbona N.

OK, if you think 3 Kings is a dive bar, then you don't belong there. It's just a punk hangout, that's all. Bad art in the basement, good songs on the juke or satellite or whatever it is now, and cheap cover when there are live bands. And free soda for your designated driver and/or 12-stepper! What could be better? Well, as someone else said, a better sound engineer, for one thing. But hey, professionalism takes a lot of the fun out.

    (3)
  • Amanda D.

love the beer, love the bands, love the art, although i havent made it to the gallery downstairs yet, and i love the atmosphere. Just be prepared to take a cab, because no one make it out alive, i mean sober.

I go here a lot - mostly for the awesome pinball games and the bowling video game. The owners look tough but they are all truly nice guys and the service is good too. Bloody Mary's are generally quite tasty and good jukebox. It's even cooler now that they have the glass garage door on the front. If you need to use the potty though, choose your stall carefully. Drinks are cheap. Come on your scooter/bike b/c it can be tough to park during prime time, but isn't that always the case in Denver?

  • matt h.

Its a dark bar with live music. Sometimes the music is good, sometimes not, even in the same night. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting, but you got to give anyplace that allows you to purchase 40s four stars. I just wish would have known that was an option before I got my PBR tall boys.

punk dive bar. strong drinks, loud local/touring bands, grubby but cool folks. some nights it's elbow to elbow while others it's like a ghost town. likewise, sometimes the hipster jerkoff army prevails while other times there are the coolest folks ever. if you are in Denver & want to drink, people watch or see a noisy band who doesn't give a shit about how popular they are you know where to go...

  • Everett S.

Three Kings has one of the best Juke Boxes in town. If you go on a weeknight when they don't have some death-metal band playing you can actually use it. This is probably my favorite bar in Denver, but you also have to check out some others nearby, like Skylark Lounge and Cafe Ceros.

  • Veronica W.

Fun! Fun! Fun! The bartenders are friendly and the other patrons take this cue. From listening to the bands, watching burlesque girls on the dance floor to shooting pool with my guy this is a great little bar to spend some time. The drinks are reasonably priced and cold.

    (4)
  • Becky S.

Yay for a bar that is suiting to all kinds! The decor is laid-back, the couches are convenient (as are the booths in the front window), and the bartenders are smart, friendly, and prompt. Not to mention the live bands they host tend to be a bit on the different side. And tasteful.

on the right night, the outside of this dive bar looks like a vintage scooter parking lot. pros: on the broadway drag, 2 pool tables, arcades, good-ish DJs (depending on the night), and clean bathrooms. cons: no photobooth, no coke blak, and creepy stage.

oooh, a new sparklingly beautiful dive-ass rock club. right across from the hi-dive, the three kings is a welcome addition to the burgeoning rock scene. killer music. a juke that slays anything else in town.

  • Nat S.

  • Tim S.

  • John F.

  • Gretchen G.

    (4)

The Bartenders are always attentive so you don't have to wait too long at the bar which always seems to be crowded and the toilets in typical dive bar style are a dump!

great people who dont care if your punk or not you can dress any way and people here are always friendly.

3 Kings. See it. It's a gem.

Attend!

    (4)

Bartender with bright pink/red hair - awesome. Drink prices - cheap Entertainment - plenty of it, dance floor and all I don't think I can ask for more.

Cheers!

Three Kings is gritty, with hard-pounding music and lots of ink showing.

only popped in for a beer or two, but it was pretty busy in here...definitely a locals fav. beer wasn't too cold and the waitresses need to pretend to be a little happier about working here. a little dirty but it is, for the most part, a divey kinda bar.

SWOON!

Great place, and it's nice to see familiar faces when I go home. Seems like everyone I grew up with goes here. Also, I've ran into a few people that I met at this bar at Red 7 here in Austin, TX!

I love 3Kings. I have a friend that does burlesque there & I always have a blast going down there. Drinks are cheap. Music is always great. Personally, I love the atmosphere. Its a good punk rock bar.

Great place! I've gone out for the night without any plans or people to meet and have had a great evening on the spur of the moment. highly recommended. Also, if you are a musician, it's the best place to play in town besides red rocks.

I've had many a good time in this fine establishment. Bars like this are always painted red and black inside. I like bars like this...

Da kings is one of the best places for live rock music in this town! If you have ended up at 3 kings you must have had a great night! Rock out with your pinballs out!

Awesome joint for the rockabilly set. Punk rock, PBR and hot tattooed chicks (and guys I suppose)... What more could you want for a night of hopps inspires angst and rebellion?

OK, if you think 3 Kings is a dive bar, then you don't belong there. It's just a punk hangout, that's all. Bad art in the basement, good songs on the juke or satellite or whatever it is now, and cheap cover when there are live bands. And free soda for your designated driver and/or 12-stepper! What could be better? Well, as someone else said, a better sound engineer, for one thing. But hey, professionalism takes a lot of the fun out.

love the beer, love the bands, love the art, although i havent made it to the gallery downstairs yet, and i love the atmosphere.

Its a dark bar with live music. Sometimes the music is good, sometimes not, even in the same night. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting, but you got to give anyplace that allows you to purchase 40s four stars. I just wish would have known that was an option before I got my PBR tall boys.

This bar is rock n' roll. Cheap drinks. Usually a cheap cover. Local bands and underground touring bands. I should go there more often.

I heart ROCKABILLIES!!! I have been known to grab a couple asses at this establishment. Sorry to all the men out there that have fallen victim to my iron grasp, it was the Espresso flavored Van Gogh shots that were forced upon me!!

Definitely an edgier crowd that Sputnik, and the Burlesque shows are always fun. Reminds me of Bar-B-Q Bar in Orlando, FL. Without the smokescreen.

punk dive bar. strong drinks, loud local/touring bands, grubby but cool folks. some nights it's elbow to elbow while others it's like a ghost town. likewise, sometimes the hipster jerkoff army prevails while other times there are the coolest folks ever. if you are in Denver & want to drink, people watch or see a noisy band who doesn't give a shit about how popular they are you know where to go...

Three Kings has one of the best Juke Boxes in town. If you go on a weeknight when they don't have some death-metal band playing you can actually use it. This is probably my favorite bar in Denver, but you also have to check out some others nearby, like Skylark Lounge and Cafe Ceros.

Fun! Fun! Fun! The bartenders are friendly and the other patrons take this cue. From listening to the bands, watching burlesque girls on the dance floor to shooting pool with my guy this is a great little bar to spend some time. The drinks are reasonably priced and cold.

Yay for a bar that is suiting to all kinds! The decor is laid-back, the couches are convenient (as are the booths in the front window), and the bartenders are smart, friendly, and prompt. Not to mention the live bands they host tend to be a bit on the different side. And tasteful.

best of denver, music, atmosphere, dive, drinking, crowd, etc .....also punk rock flea market 2nd Saturday of each month. there's a reason for all these 5 stars...

on the right night, the outside of this dive bar looks like a vintage scooter parking lot. pros: on the broadway drag, 2 pool tables, arcades, good-ish DJs (depending on the night), and clean bathrooms. cons: no photobooth, no coke blak, and creepy stage.

I usually go during happy hour. Friendly service, a juke-box with a gnarly selection, and they have 4 well-maintained pinball machines!

oooh, a new sparklingly beautiful dive-ass rock club. right across from the hi-dive, the three kings is a welcome addition to the burgeoning rock scene. killer music. a juke that slays anything else in town. (r.i.p. wesley willis.) killer drinks. and a super-comfortable room with lots of pool and attitude and good vibes.
