Nothing like partying in a old Church!

Great place to get your groove on. Two floors to choose from... hip hop or techno. This club has a very nice vibe to it... feels holy almost!

This place is hit or miss. When all of the rooms are hopping it can be fun to transcend the staircase from techno to hip hop. I found the crowd to be sweaty and way to eager to grind on strangers. The music can really suck, but is tolerable when inebriated. A unique thing about this place, however, are the go-go girls who dance on platforms and swing from hoops above the dance floor. It is a good place for 18+ night if you're not 21 and want to find a social scene.

The doorman and the guy who put on bracelets were two of the rudest individuals I have ever met. They both did their jobs slowly as well. A poor introduction to a mediocre, at best, venue.

I truly enjoy working with The Church and doing our events there. I have been a promoter and producer in the Denver area for 12 years. I started at Rock Island and have grown into, what I feel is a knowledgeable, dedicated, hard working, and honest part of the Entertainment Industry. There are venues I refuse to work with, and I'll probably share my opinion as time passes. For Now, The Church gets 4 Stars because every venue has it's flaws but The Church has consistently kept up with industry standards and even revamped all of their equipment many times to keep the sound crisp and the atmosphere comfortable and amazing at the same time. If you have not yet been there, I suggest you give it a try. Check the schedule at coclubs.com - There are also other venues owned by the SoCo Nightlife District and they are all on fantastic par with The Church. ie. Bar Standard, MILK, Vinyl, Funky Buddha, City Hall, The Living Room, and maybe more. Not sure I can remember all of them right now. Live music, live DJs (real DJs) Go-Gos, Special events (like with Cirque du Kinque), many different genre's accommodated all in the same building. 4 floors (technically) including the roof top and VIP lounge area. There are all kinds of different rooms and a smoking patio. It's a beautiful venue with original stained glass windows and gothic architecture it stands as beautiful and majestic as it always has. Originally built as a real church it's a great place to take friends who come through town, visit while on vacation, and attend regularly as a local. there's always something new and awesome going on within the SoCo Nightlife District. Check it out! coclubs.com

The church is putting a good effort to try and improve their club, and bring better headliners. It's a unique venue, and offers something for everyone. Some of the security guards are on a power trip and need to work on their attitude. Their job is to keep everyone safe, not bully the patrons. I've also had several issues with credit card tabs, and bartenders losing my credit card. I do have a common last name, but bartenders need to make sure not to give my credit card to other patrons. If you do happen to leave your credit card at the club, I wouldn't expect to get it back within the following week or two, if at all.

I would give no stars if I could. This place has horrible management and customer service!!! People waited in the in the rain for 20 to 30 minutes only to pay a 40$ cover for 21 and up on a Friday night for PVD. FORGET THIS PLACE!!!! Also the girl at the front register has a horrible attitude and should never be allowed speak to customers. Horrible place, over priced for and underwhelming club

I LOVE this club! I've been going here for about three years and whenever I want to go dancing this is where I always go! I've introduced alot of my friends to this club and whenever we're all together that's where we all go! I've never had a bad experience here. In the summer I go every Friday night and in the Winter I try and go as often as I can. The people are great and nice and the music is awesome! The 18+ thing has never really bothered me, mostly because I just go there to dance with my girls and if you don't have a wrist band we won't talk to you lol. The best club in Denver without a doubt. Great people, great atmosphere, strong drinks, and I LOVE the roof! ;)

There is something about being slightly drunk facing this huge stained glass piece of Jesus, bearing down on you, that ruins your night. I'm not really a fan. I just like the resident DJs there enough to not want to maim the crowd. And rumor has it that the Greek guy who runs this place and all of SoCo doesn't like the French-guy who staked his claims in LoDo. Maybe one day I'll see a fight break out that would be worth watching.

The venue is good, not great. I saw some people ejected from the place last night, but that was because as one of the security people stated that the woman was causing problems to which she yelled back that she wasn't. Case in point. I rather go out unless there's a specific talent but I want to see performing. Much of the reason why I went is because the ticket price with fees included was $18 I didn't think it was horrible and its nice venue they can drop the prices to attract more people to see talent whom would probably go to Beta. Although I'm at the age where being pushed around in the club is not fun anymore either by staff (security) or by the patrons. It's a little bit lower end in my opinion and as such the average patron should expect possible rough treatment not anything violent really just kind of being pushed around a little bit more and a less respect. I've noticed a really large difference in the way you're treated at say at place like Beta. I also in my opinion like funktion one much better than whatever they're using in the church. I don't really think that the music has to be that loud for me to be able to enjoy it. Of course anytime I go to a club and I usually prepare before hand I always bring ear plugs regardless of the sound system.

I once loved this place, but my favorite dance floor wreaked of cigar smoke and my asthma couldn't take it.

went there yesterday on 8/28/16. They got spacious dance floor and excellent music, but for some reason the club was completely empty. I just moved to Denver so maybe I'm not aware about any other event going on where the crowd was. Anyway it wasn't a good experience to pay cover for an empty club.

It was not a busy night when we went. It was a special event on a Sunday- kind of Gothy- which I am not. Not sure how the day to day is? I am getting to the point where I have to be on a list to want to go clubbing. I love this venue, lots of nooks and crannies, maybe a few trannies?-at least the night we were there. I am not super freaky, and it did not freak me out. There were Go Go's, and it was a great show. Love the dance area downstairs, go exploring. Maybe it needs an upgrade, but I felt it was adequate, and the space and crowd made up for that.

A couple decades ago this was THE place to club in Denver. The downstairs crypt dance floor with its two bars, the gorgeous upstairs main hall and more bars there, the sushi restaurant in the split level from there, the cigar bar, the roof patio ... You couldn't go wrong just heading to the Church, paying the cover, and making a spectacular evening of it. In recent years this decommissioned and re-purposed Episcopalian church appears to be suffering from a bit of neglect. It seems a bit run down and dirty where it shouldn't be (bathrooms hello) and I've not seen the sushi joint or cigar bar opened for business again. The crowds have altered as the establishment re-targeted its demographic, desperate to reel in waning business. The DJ list occasionally reads like a wish list of entertainers from the 90s that are way cheaper to fly in these days. This seems to augur for the end of a legend, but the nostalgia that stirs in me for the glory days of The Church keep me coming back hoping for a rebirth.

It's pretty obvious most of the church's clientele is Hispanic. Ironically, my friends and I (hard working Latinos) were treated poorly. In fact, we felt discriminated against because of this lady working at the door. She was yelling at everyone and being rude to all customers. I told her she could be nicer and as a result, we ended up being taken out of the place violently and had to enter through another door, just so the lady at the entrance wouldn't see us. If you want a white lady yelling at you and abusing the non existent authority she thinks she has, this is the place to go to.

Friendly Staff including Security. Cheap Beers. And a Good Sound System. Came to See Markus Schulz and bought my ticket online. Had no problem being guided to Will Call or when i gave them my Print at Home receipt. The beers hover around 3 or 4 dollars. Cant comment on the mixed drinks. The Floor space could be bigger. I understand it is in a church but I'm sure theirs more space than that could be freed up than what they had. It gets packed and kinda hard to move especially if you want to start Raving to the music. You only can break out the Glo Sticks early and for a short while. The patrons are great made some new friends and watched people who were way to inebriated acting a fool and some being escorted off by the Non Douchey security. And only one staff of the security was a Douche Canoe Tough Guy and I'M sure if you've been there then you know who he is. A Good Experience all around and reasonable ticket prices. And for the RECORD they Serve Alcohol now and mixed drinks. And if your worried about being Struck By Lightning for Partying in a Church dont be. Im just fine :)

I was on the guest list on a Sunday night and showed up at 11:50pm and was told the list 'shuts down at 11:30'. I decided I would pay the $5 charge only to find out that the cover was $10 for each person (we had 4) at midnight when last call is 1:30. Absolutely ridiculous.

I'm all about dressing great and having a fun evening out with my friends and this place delivers. I love being a total ratchet on the weekends and this place is my playground lol though I wish cocktails wouldn't be 8 bucks I won't complain too much. Music is always great, there's always gonna be creepy guys but I'm not there to meet guys. I just like to get drunk and dance with my friends and we always have fun :)

  • Katina S.

If you're an underage girl or a creepy guy, this is your spot. There is a ton of potential here that is lost on the bad sound, poor atmosphere and lack of organization. After purchasing my tickets ahead of time (including a $4 service fee) I had to wait in a massive line of people who had not purchased their tickets because I did not have a paper ticket and they could only scan tickets at one line. At no time while purchasing my tickets did it say I needed to print them out and it was incredibly frustrating to stand in below freezing temperatures after I had paid more, ahead of time, to get in. What is the point of offering pre-sale tickets if you make those who plan ahead wait anyway?

  • Lisa O.

Strong drinks and friendly club-goers keep me coming back to this place...along with the classy Prog House on Fridays. I was worried about the 18+ feature of this club. It's really not a problem. Even the younger crowd seems pretty nice and responsible. You have to see the trapeze act at this place. What other club in Denver has that?!?!?

It has the potential to be AMAZING. C'mon, grand debauchery in a former church??? How can you go wrong? But The Church does. Very, very wrong. The best and worst part about this place is the all-ages approach. It was terrific when my 18-year-old sister visited and I could take her clubbing with me (there's a 10-year difference between us), but the other times I've been (my friends like this place) have been eh. Getting hit on by a barely legal boy who can't buy me a drink is, frankly, rather annoying. Asking one of them - in front of his boys (and I use this term strongly) - if he's sure he isn't a latent homosexual, however, is highly amusing. But then the Mama Bear in me came out after his boys teased him relentlesly and I proclaimed loudly, "no, no, what the hell am I saying? You look like a man who gets all the bitches!" In retrospect, perhaps I should've given him a pity kiss or something ... to save him from being verbally destroyed by his friends. Ah, such is life. Karma. I'll get mine. But anyway. I like the different themes in the various parts of the Church, especially the hip hop room. I like to climb on stage and shake it -- plus, Im out of reach from all the aforementioned barely legal boys. This place is fantastic if you're 18! Or if you're bringing your 18-year-old sister out ... but, eh, I guess I'm pretty much over it. "Um, wait, you don't have a wrist band. You can't buy me a drink. Why, exactly, are you talking to me?" ;)

This place has an awesome atmosphere and dance music. All of the multi levels and small rooms play different music. Sometimes they get some really great DJ's here as well. Like The Crystal Method for example as well as a host of others. Cover charge may be a bit steep sometimes. My only real complaint is that with such a great atmosphere the attendees don't seem to match the atmosphere that much. This place is probably to expensive for the people that would make great people watching like goths or drag queens and such. Just a lot of social climbers and people wanting to sack someone for the night-but for straight people(but what straight bar is not like this or a gay one for that matter). I hear they serve sushi here, might be worth a try.

I am going to admit that the day I turned 18 two years ago I thought that going to a night club was the most adult thing I could do. Boy have I matured since then. The church is a very interesting venue. I can't help but feel kind of strange as I walk into a former place of worship so that I can do debauchery. I'm actually not that hardcore, but I will say a few things about the church. The main floor is a nice place to dance on since it's wood, making it not as bad on your knees. But the sound and light seem a little old or in need of higher maintenance. I would not be surprised if they've used the same sound system since the days that my parents went as teenagers.

Like the sentence next to the two stars when choosing the two star rating says, "Meh. I've experienced better." After a much anticipated night this past week with Ed Rush + Optical and Frankie Bones and DJ Swamp, I gotta say this place is somewhat disappointing. The sound sucks. Period. Sucks big time, in fact. A previous review said there's no attitude here, but I found it to be somewhat pretentious. And the music could've been better for who the DJs were on this particular night. The place was somewhat empty as well, which is just ore evidence that this city seriously needs an EDM scene. The bartenders were cool, and drinks are actually reasonably priced. I do like the layout as well, with all the different staircases and the outdoor chill areas - outdoor chill areas are always big bonuses. So the venue itself is pretty cool (How could it not be as an old place of worship? There's something deliciously ironic about partying in a church.), but what goes on inside it not so much.

If there is a God, I need to come up with a really good excuse to explain the things I've done in this place. I just don't see that happening.... I'm sorry. I was here when I still lived in Denver almost every Friday and Sunday... ( I worked a kick back job) and we never held back. Just writing this brings a smile to my face remember all the shenanigans we got into here... I've been thrown out more then a few times, not let in, and spent more money and time not knowing what in the world was going on then I wish I had. I enjoyed every last minute of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is an old church... the alter torn out and a bar put in its place. At least they took out the crosses. Cheap strong drinks... long island was my all time favorite here @ $5. Ok, must stop writing... this review is going to turn into a confession soon... whats the statute of limitations on stupidity? Oh, be careful.... the bouncers are good here, (first hand experience) they walk up to you like your buddy and by the time they do, your usually to the point where you can't tell the difference... they ask to talk to you, ask you to walk with them... and BAM before you know what's happened... your standing outside!!!! Sometimes in the snow. DAMNIT. I should of caught on to this trick after the first time.

I wanted to love this place....really wanted to. The atmosphere is cool, it's a church for Christ's sake! However, the crowd is so strange in my opinion. Fresh faced, just turned 18 year olds; and techno dancers....I didn't see much in between. And the cover?!?! $15?! You guys are crazy for paying that. Thank god I'm not under 21 anymore...

Probably not the worst club out there, but easily the worst one I've been to in Denver so far. Let me explain why. Let's start with the good: So many clubs struggle to provide patrons with a unique experience. In terms of the venue, this one does not. The upstairs is nice-I would even say beautiful. As the name implies, it's a former church, with the architecture well preserved and the main floor where rows of pews used to be. Adjacent to the main floor, there is a bar/sushi bar with a nice seating area. The DJ wasn't bad either...I am NOT a fan of dubstep, and this DJ (on a Friday) was playing the good old kind of mix you CAN dance to. The cover was also inexpensive ($5, I believe). But that's about where the good stops. The bad: The place was nearly EMPTY when we went. Initially I thought it was because we went just a few days before Christmas, but several other reviewers also seem to echo this. I don't know how the place stays in business with the sparse crowd and charging the low cover it does, although I hear its Latin night is more popular. While the upstairs is nice, the downstairs is a different story. Ugly and seedy are two words I would use to describe it. In one room I think they were playing hip hop and in another I didn't even know, but it freaked my friend out so we bolted. Bottom line: This club has gone DOWNHILL. I wish I could say it's as good as it probably was when my parents partied here. Supposedly it was even voted one of the best clubs in America years ago. I don't know what happened, but I do know there are enough nice clubs around Denver to avoid this one and not think twice.

Now who would've ever though about buying a old church and turning it into a night club? I guess you can wash away your sins as you party the night away!

I had heard about this place years ago from an old acquaintance of mine so I decided to check it out on my recent trip to Denver. The whole idea of a Church being turned into a night club seemed pretty "edgy" and "cool." So I took one of the trams up to around the Capitol Hill area and walked to The Church. At first I though the line was extremely long as there were tons of people outside, it turned out to be the outdoor patio where all the smokers go or where people go to cool off. There still was a short line, but at most I think I waited a minute or two at most. The whole vibe of place has a grungy, underground-ish feel to it, it almost felt like I was in a warehouse. There are several levels to The Church, the first being the main room (or should I say Cathedral?) where the main act plays (on the night I went it was DJ Micro). Then there's two areas downstairs one seemed a bit more poppy and the other a bit more industrial. On one of the levels there's a sushi bar, which was definitely interesting. Seemed like a cool place, music wasn't as great as I would have liked, but it looks like the place caters to a bunch of different tastes so I'm sure it depends on the night you go.

  • Allie V.

If you're into partying while being surrounded by monuments of historic enlightened beings, you should check out Tao in Las Vegas. Now there's an amazing club. But it wouldn't be fair to the Church to compare the two - it'd be like comparing McDonald's to Z Cuisine, it just ain't ever gonna happen for Micky Ds. After coming here to give it a shot a couple of times with a few friends, what is reminiscent in my mind is the mediocrity of the place. The ok music and creepiness factor of the crowds (every time I went I was followed around by someone, one time it was a guy from Alabama and the other time it was 2 dudes w obvious boners) I understand that's clubbing for you but this place takes the cake in housing creepy dudes. This club would garner 1 star if it weren't for the multiple rooms and floors playing different music for different people and in that respect I find it really cool along with the nights when ladies get in free, and there's a sushi bar, but the last time I came here was last winter and I'm just going to keep it that way. The music being played also isn't even the best for any genre and it feels like everyone in there is a modern, club-hopping reincarnation of the hubris of everyone on the Titanic. Call me a hardened social outdoors(wo)men but I wasn't impressed by the dirty seats, unattractive crowds that are a bland mixture of your average 18 year old excited to be getting grinded on and extras for some third rate music video. I'm gonna have to pass and get my religious satirical kicks and overwhelming need to dance somewhere else.

I'm gonna start this review with a line from a fine Lo-Fidelity All Stars quote: Your construction...smells of corruption. Indeed. I got to the Church, for the 1st time in 15 years, yeah, it's been that long, last Friday. Many people have covered the basics here, a few have talked about their personal experiences, and I will be no different. I had to hustle to get the attention of the person who was in charge of the guest lists...it was nearly 11pm, and people were trying to hustle to get in (who were on the guest list) to beat the cover charge which started promptly at 11pm. I was then hustled by the guest list guy to pay $10 to leap the line and get in. This same person, and others, were charging $15 to some other people who arrived late, to get in ahead of the line which was a block long. Somehow, through mind-numbing application of the Force, I "fuzzed" their minds enough that I got into the tail end of that previous group which had shelled out some moola to desperately get in. But then the actual door person said the line cut off like 3 people before me, and that was it. I told them that the guy at the front said I could go in, and while he was hollering out front as to where he should cut off the line, I squeaked in...the last person to jet in there before the line got slammed with the cover charge. So now I believe it when I hear the line's an hour long (or more) to get in if you get there past 10pm. What else can I tell you? PBRs are $3. The bartendress who looked like Betty Boop was fun. The sound system was average, the lights were average - barely - and not played enough on the floor or the shiny disco ball above in the main dance music room. The dancers hired to gyrate like strippers on the square pedestals near the stage were awesome-looking...aaaand I'm sure they know it, and that's why they're dancers. The DJ's were pretty awesome that night, DJ Proteje was one, and there was another one from Chicago doing his very last set ever that night -- that was really good music, but unfortunately my group had to leave due to curdling altercation action between 1 super-millionaire kid (rolling in oil money) and a group of about 5-6 others he was drunkenly trying to confront. Yikes. Downstairs there was an 80s dance music room, pretty filled, and a hip-hop room, *very* filled. Patio area was packed. The one neat thing I hadn't seen in my last times was frequently there would be circles that would clear out on the floor and let talented young individuals break, pop, lock and spin their goods on the dance floor...including handstands and stuff that would shatter my wrists if I tried it. :) And some of them were very, very good...that was kind of a joy to watch. Unfortunately, we were out of there by about 1:30 onto another venue till dawn... So was it worth it? Yeah...because it was free. I met 2 millionaires that night, 1 of whom was celebrating his birthday, and got completely messed up on vodka and red bulls later that night. The music was fun, the DJ's varied but the last one had his A-game on...although I heard the Church bailed out on plans to get that last guy his own dancers, and lasers, and light show -- they were, per his promoter, supposedly "scared" to put up the lasers. WTfunk? Whatever. I've seen worse, and I've seen better. To close with a line from Lo-Fidelity All Stars, "gotta launder...your karma." Or maybe not - with people desperate enough to pay $10, 15, 20 to "jump in line" and get in...and then get smacked *again* with a cover charge, possibly...you might be able to keep on rolling the way you've been. I'll post a few pics too.

If you want to go to a club you should go to this one. First off, it is a converted church. So the ambiance is amazing. They have four rooms and each room plays a different style of music. I like the main room the best because it is the one that the premier DJ's play in. The music is mostly progressive house, but occasionally there will be a drum and bass show there; and that is when you want to go. I also like the main room a lot because of the stain glass windows. It's cool. Guys, if you get there early enough and bring a lot of girls you can sometimes get in for free. Get your wristband and then come back later when there are more people. That is how I have gotten in for free. But if you do that, make sure you tip the bouncer. If you want a good place to go dancing, hit this club up.

Don't be fooled if you see the hungry kitten here in gothic attire sexily dancing. She's really here for the delicious sushi bar. I love the ambiance and the sushi. Enough said.

I have never been reminded of the middle school dances I attended over a decade ago until I walked into the Church. Holy underage girls, Batman! I swear that some of the "18 year olds" must have been carrying fake IDs, because there were some youngins up in there for real. I did really like the space- the church itself is beautiful, especially lit up by the torches near the pulpit. It is also nice that for the cover you can get into Vinyl for free, which is a very short walk away. Me and my girls had fun dancing (or squirming rather- the place was completely packed), but we went on a Saturday night (which is "Latin Night") and the guys were absolutely SWARMING. All of us have significant others and just came to dance, but between the three of us we probably had to turn away around 20 guys, within the time span of about half an hour. We were baffled because we were not scantily dressed in the least, especially compared to the skin tight mini-dresses, accompanied by stripper heals, that the vast majority of girls were sporting. I think the bro to ho ratio must have been off... I will give this place another chance, maybe if they have 21+ only nights, with a cheaper cover perhaps? We shall see.

The good, the bad, the beautiful--you'll find it all at the Church. I'm not a fan of techno, or clubbing in general, so this isn't the first place I think of going to on a night out. However, this is a really cool place, and I've enjoyed it every time I've been there. What's coolest about this place is the multiple rooms. You're bound to find something you like here. They host big-time acts in the big auditorium room, but my favorite is the Goth room. The down side, of course, is the bloated prices.

A-mazing. I was passing through town and so glad I stayed one more night! A nightlife-loving buddy in Phoenix told me about this place and I've never seen anything like it. I will stop though here any chance I get. Pros: 2 dance floors gave great variety; 80's, EBM, Synthpop & Industrial, Metal Friendly people! I came knowing nobody and made a bunch of friends. Multiple bars for fast service! Incredible venue with unique character, very original Nooks & corners to chat, sip cocktails or flirt Sushi bar- Amg! =D Patio for smoking and socializing Super music selection with lots of old favorites and hot new beats Cons: Inconsistent drinks & prices between 2 bartenders (one charged me $8 for the weakest drink I've ever had) Main sanctuary and all of its spectacularness wasn't open. I had to sneak in for a peek... Outside patio was uncovered and they shut it down when it rained. Where do I go smoke now =/ I loved it and had a great time, but it would have been much better had the sanctuary been open. The architecture and stained glass windows were so beautiful, it was a shame to miss out on dancing up there. I'm totally going back next time I'm in CO!

Big Venue, has Reaaly nice hsows on Friday, Aerial performances and top flite DJ's. There can be a wait to get in when you show up at wrong times, but plenty of space inside, and friendly staff to help you. Loud music, just what you expect, and good crowds. Lots of pretty women, and parking is plentiful and free and close by.

Coolest venue in Denver but poor promotion and rough door staff. Sundays are a blast and friendly staff with dJ slaveone killing it in the larger space. Check it out when it's busy because it too cool to miss. I wish they gave tours!

It has a lot to offer but I only go here if I have pre-gamed cause cover cost is ridiculous so that's what most of my nights spending limit goes to. I like the variety of music choices in one spot. Sometimes a little to crowded on the outside smoking balcony other then that it's ok. I kinda feel like I'm back in high school sometimes cause you can tell there are a lot of people who can't handle them selves and the staff over look that often.

I have been to the Church maybe 5 times in the past 8 years- but l figure I needed to Yelp a review for all of you. Last night was their Global Fridays promotion featuring the Twenty42 Dance Music Collective DJ Proteje and Deejay Brian Howe (Westword Magazine's BEST DJ in Denver 2010) I got there early- and had to try out the Sushi Bar-- that's correct you just read Sushi Bar!! Having great quality sushi and a beer with the DJ's and some friends starts the night off in style. Great quality sushi too! Average$$ but less than the best service. As for the club- it has many rooms each offering a different dance music genre. As you can see from the pictures- this place still looks very much like it did when it was a worshiping venue- not like your typical nightclub. Very Cool The sound system and lighting are great. Not the same quality as Beta Nightclub-- but then not too many clubs can boast about that level of sound. Overall- I like this club. If you enjoy techno/ trance dance music from top-quality DJ talent-check out the Church on a Friday night...and make sure to arrive around 9pm for Sushi!!

Are you kidding me not many places you can go that was a church and now one of the hottest clubs in the country. Staff is great customers are even better a wide range of everyone. If you get a chance take it.

I used to go to The Church every Sunday and really enjoyed myself until an incident opened my eyes to how clique-ish it is. When I was going, they would never open the catacombs (dance floor down below the main dance floor) so it was less appealing. The last time I went they had the catacombs open, another small dance room/floor open, and the sushi bar was hot that night so I really enjoyed myself. They have started to have more live bands play on the main level and leave the DJing to the other two rooms on Sunday. I have yet to visit on one of the other nights. I'll probably stop through a time or two each year for the next couple of years but the crowd seems to be getting younger, and not just because I'm aging, so I won't be spending too much more time there. It is free before 10p for those over 21. It's $10 for those under 21 at all times. $5 for over 21 after 10p.

You ever say to yourself *Damn I would go to church way more often if they served booze, played good dance music, had the occasional live band, had hot go go dancers up on podiums, and there were tons of very friendly attractive scantily dressed girls all over the place!* Well this was the church that luis m attended in Denver for a week while on a business trip about 5 years ago. Highly recommended by a Colorado native co-worker I made my way here on the very first night I arrived in Denver. The cab driver let me know I was going to the right place if I was really into dancing and meeting new people. I didn't know to interpret that as an honest passing along of info or some line that he gave to all the tourists that must ask about the place. Surprisingly enough I came to find out that he was right. I think I came to this club every night but Wednesday (currently I think they are only open Thursday thru Sunday). Everyone I met was really friendly, enjoyed dancing, and enjoyed having good conversation. I did have one surreal experience with a girl running up to me, pulling me in for a big bear hug, and proclaiming *OMG you're Filipino!* Yikes...sorry I'm not... Oh well. Is there much of a Filipino community in Denver? I durno, but this one sure did seem lonely. She was my club buddy for the rest of the week even though I wasn't of her people. It's hard to believe that someone took a high ceiling, stone walled, cathedral style church and turned it into a club...while still leaving much of the church intact. There is still an altar, but instead of communion wafers and the blood of christ it serves shots of patron and training wheels (lime and salt for you rookies). Many of the original church artifacts like statues, the glass stained windows, holy water thingies, and pews are still there making for one interesting night of boozing, dancing, and friendly interaction with the opposite sex. The place has plenty of real estate to explore with several dance floors, several different lounge areas, and enough bars to keep the liquor flowing for everyone. If you find yourself in Denver and you like dancing, flirting, and having a great time then I suggest stopping by this place. Really, getting drunk at church should be enough reason to stop by this place for at least one night. Forgive me father, for I have sinned...and loved every minute of it.

I went here to strictly makeout... The music was lame and God was calling, but I could find him because the 18-year old next to me kept shaking her big booty and I couldn't see past it. My new boyfriend and I at the time went upstairs to a swanky couch and made-out some more and then I whispered that I felt so enlightened and he just stared at me blankly and took that as a sign start break dancing to the tehno DJ... When he was spinning on the floor I escaped to the bathroom. I found him when I came back sitting on the couch and praying... hmmm... The Church is a cool place for a dance club in general, but I think that the shows usually suck and the crowd is usually 16 going on 19.... It can get crowded, but every time I have gone it has been like getting to the school dance right when it begins.... People stand in small groups or by themselves and the dance floor might have one couple and that one weirdo, but no one else. * Star one is for taking a great urban location church and turning it into a dance club....So sexy! ** Star two is for live music.... Gotta groove *** Star three is for letting me shake my tush and feel sexy and I got to makeout... yumm

Sacrilegious! The turned a church into a bar. It's a wonderful space inside with great acoustics. That said, it's big, VERY big. A former very large church is now too stories of drinking, going out fun. They've also embraced that it was a former church, highlighting it rather than hiding it. I've been here for Halloween and a few other times and it was enjoyable. It's a pretty impressive costume party with plenty of people that aren't too young. Drinks weren't cheap (how could they be? it must cost a fortune to run the place) and the music was okay, but not great, trendy dancy with limited variety so not really my thing. I think music that allows you to change moods and think a little bit. I'd say you're really either a very social person or you might want to bring your own group because it's pretty cliquey when I've been and I've gone with friends. It's in a pretty good spot, just aways from downtown so parking is actually not that difficult. Not a great neighborhood at night, so have your wits about you. I found the church more enjoyable the first few times when the novelty of it (the slight sacrilegious feel) hadn't yet worn off and I think the crowd has gotten a little more younger/trendoid rather than more down to earth, slightly older types out to enjoy themselves rather than see and be seen.

Have you seen that movie where those ppl go to this club and then after hours of drinking and dancing the doors are closed and locked. Then all the staff and most of the patrons bear fangs and kill all the tourists who got suckered into going there. WELCOME TO THE CHURCH! Apparently, we were suckered in by some ppl who said they were going to this awesome club off Lincoln. Sunday is goth night. It's not wear a hot pink tank top and do the electric slide. The cover was $5 a head...since I was tipsy already I paid it and dragged my friends down into the dark recess of hell. The music was REM on opium. My heart nearly bassed out of my chest.... This is where all the misunderstood kids from high school meet up. No one gave us any problems, but then again no one talked to us. I was in awe and probably shouldn't have stared as much as I did. This place has a great layout. They have a sushi bar, fun! But alas, no food for me I like to drink my calories. The outside was packed due to everyone getting their nicotine fix. The lower dance floor was jammed pack, there was another area that seemed like it had a larger dance floor. Although it was not open...it also looked like the main part of the church (when it was an actual church.) I don't know if I would consider going again....and wearing black next time around. I'm not sure how to rate this one...the concept is downright awesome. The ambience different. Drink prices...well it's downtown Denver. The staff was ok, nothing special. I'm going to put this one in the middle.

one of the only club in denver that plays more than hip hop and techno. i love the industrial room in the basement. the people are quite nice, beautiful and i get to hear great music. its usually not too crowded but enough for it not to be boring. the downside is the drink prices are pretty pricey but it is free to get in [if you are 21+ and female] and the bartenders arent the best. parking is also a downside.

not a fan of the music (techno-ey) or the crowd (though the place was not crowded). or the church itself. i was imagining something more...majestic, but it turned out to be much ghettoer than expected. perhaps i didn't go on the right night. i don't know. my experience was pretty lame.

Yowza. Do you remember the 90s Nickelodeon show Legends of the Hidden Temple? Imagine that, with blaring LMFAO and stained glass windows, and you have the Church. I normally am more of a dive bar than "club" girl (after all..this is Denver...) but I was roped into going here a few weeks ago and it was quite the experience. First of all, cover is $10 which think is sort of a joke (again, Denver--not Miami) but if I ever go again I'll be pretty well toasted before entering because drinks were about 60% more than any other bar in Denver I've been to including the douchey 1-syllable bars downtown. That said, it is a nice change to listen to mindless pop/hip hop music and dance like an idiot. My caveats would be to go with friends you can stick with because you WILL get lost at some point. This place is a labyrinth. I will go back though, if for no other reason than to navigate my way through to the winner's circle, out together the monkey, and retrieve my grand prize.

Whoa. I went there in 2005 and saw Fat Boy Slim...it was amazing except for the place being packed to the hilt (like fire-marshall-should-be-contacted-packed) and empty glasses all over the floor. Crowded place + random empty glasses = broken ankle city! ANYWHO...went back in 2007 with my then fiance on a Saturday night, paid the 10 dollar cover, and there was NO ONE in there...maybe 10 random guys standing around in the "smoky" main dance area. Lame alert. Avoid this place, unless a big namer comes into town that sells out the joint. If so, watch the floor for debris.

This venue is very large and split on various levels, even including a sushi bar (?). The stain glass windows from its previous use is an amusing touch. We were told that if you get here before 10pm it's free entry. Turns out it's only free for the ladies. It was dead at that time, so we went to a near by bar, only to return about 45 minutes before closing time. It was a Latino music night. Good thing I like this stuff, and it sure was crowded. We were a bit like flies in milk but nevertheless had fun and the ambiance is pretty cool. Not so cool were the bar prices- I mean yes you are in an ex-church and drinking but do you really have to charge all that much for a simple mixer?! I suppose you come here more for the novelty of the venue itself rather than the actual music/bar. Will come back for drum'n'bass though.

Not bad, not bad. Kind of a run-down building. If it weren't for the club lights and energy it would be just plain creepy but there's an appeal to that as well.

I'm not a dancer, not into Techno, not a fan of the under 21 crowd, but I actually enjoyed this place. The atmosphere is amazing, I mean it is located in an old church after all. Theres nothing like taking some E, putting on some slutty clothes and dancing your ass off all while a stained glass potrait of Jesus watches over you. I did find it rather difficult to get around considering everybody dances like they're an epileptic. I think I got smacked in the face numerous times...I even got shoved into a metal pole and bruised my arm pretty bad. I guess I'm getting too old for this kinda stuff (the music was SOOO loud!)...however you can pretty much dance however you want and nobody is going to make fun of you. All the 18 year old girls wearing slutty outfits made my boyfriend extremely happy and me laugh my ass off so I guess it was a win-win situation. Overall I had a good time, and I'll probably come back.... once my hearing returns

I hate the club, any club, in all honesty. I feel like it's always the same crowded, sweaty competition with the soundtrack of either an endless techno loop or hip-hop music I havent heard (because I dont listen to hip-hop much). But I enjoy the church only on one night of the week. I used to religiously go for the gothic/industrial night on Sundays, and always loved the crowd, the music, the atmosphere. Then, it changed to 21+ and I was 19 at the time, so goodbye goth night :( I just moved back from Florida and I've been going on Fridays, when they have a DJ spinning gothic/industrial tunes in half of the basement. Not near the eccentric crowd on fridays, but whatever because they play the music that I want to hear and dance to. I just can't wait until I turn 21 (only a few more months!) so that I can return on sunday nights. It IS a plus that it's 18+ for those of you who arent 21 yet. If you get there before 10 it's $10 and $15 after 10, whilst being free for people 21 and up.

I have gone to the church a few times at this point. After last night, I think I'm totally over it. I'm not impressed by the music at all. The dancing would be cool if only there weren't so many people in there that you can barly wiggle. Yes, there were a lot of people, but there were a lot of guys in there grinding up on you out of nowhere. I don't really like that to much. There's a big creepy-guy population that hangs out there and that doesn't help either. Lots of people on drugs/selling drugs/looking to buy drugs. Not so much my scene. But, I did get in free, so that was nice.

The only reason why I would step into this Church is to see one of my favorite artists. I can't say I'm scared of many things but old churches top my list. The idea is unique, go clubbing in an old church but so not for me and kinda freaks me out. Saying that Moby will be playing there tonight. I would SO go to see him do his thing. I heart Moby. denver2night.com/event/6…

After years of begging me to come here by my Goth friend, my girlfriend and I suited up in our darkest darks and headed into the depths of this former worship site turned club! We arrived shortly after 9, before the cover charges began at 10pm. A note on the covers: if you're under 21 you have to pay $10 to get in. Over 21 is free before 10, and like $5 after! HA!! As we descended into the catacombs, we passed through an extremely loud industrial music room, entering the quieter (yet still loud) second room playing a variety of music. We grabbed a table alongside the recessed walls and proceeded to get some liquor. You ready for this? One rum and coke and one vodka/cranberry=$6.50. YEP. When the bartender told me the price, I could've sworn he said $16.50, which is what I'd expect to pay for two drinks in a club. However, when I signed my receipt, there it was. 6. 5. 0. AMAZING. Of course, the drinks were weak ass, but at least I wasn't paying my blood monies for it! The music that night was terrible, but this seemed to be a one off thing. Pretty much everyone in there was pissed at the DJ. I'd definitely love to come back to check out a different DJ and see what this place can REALLY do!

One of my favorite clubs in Denver, always fun to go to. They have multiple dance floors, a cigar bar, a sushi bar, and a balcony for bottle service. I've been here for multiple shows, and it's always a lot of fun. It can get really packed though, so be prepared for a hot, cramped space. The sushi bar is actually pretty good. I order most times I go there. Sushi rolls are about $10 each, they also have edamame, green tea ice cream, and sake. Bottle service is awesome, the service is fantastic up there. Though they really could use to keep people that aren't paying for it from going up there. There always seems to be someone wandering around that shouldn't be there. Bottles start at $150, and one is good for 4 people.

I had so much fun here last night, but I think it was more about the company I kept than the venue. Grant, the music was fun and the crowd was pretty typical for a "going out" crowd. The drinks were priced like a strip club ($7 for a well, really??), and considering some girls were close to naked it was like a hybrid inside that ...church. Eek. All that being said, I think the key to a successful night ala The Church, is to pre-game as all get-out, head that way, *maybe* buy a drink (or not), and just boogie. Friday is Ladies Night, so cover there. Split the cost with your dude-friend and $5/person ($10 total for males, thanks math!) isn't so unreasonable. I have never been and can't say for sure if I'd ever go there on a regular. I do like that they have three different areas to get one's dance on: techno, hip hop, and Goth. Oooh the Goth room. My favorite of the evening, for when the music was bad (loud, angry, German-style), the people watching was still good. And the bathrooms weren't terrible, but I didn't use them after midnight so I can't say for sure if that's a static assessment. We were there while there was still room to move, so that was fun. In fact, that's the only way I'd do it. The Church was something different for me; a fun place to dance and be silly, and might just draw the Goth right out of me that's been locked away since high school.

I went on a Friday night with a friend, and we arrived at roughly half past ten. Since we're both female and over 21, there was no cover charge, and we were branded by a neon yellow wrist band. Once we got inside, it became painfully obvious how many people were under the age of 21. This may be why our drinks were so inexpensive - perhaps the club is attempting to draw back the over 21 crowd during the weekend, as we have more money to spend and are less likely to spend it on Coke. Anyways, the main floor was intriguing, with its stained glass windows and balcony for those to watch and stand in judgment on the dancers. And as for the dancers, well....the place wasn't very crowded (and remained that way until past one), but I saw my fair share of candy kids (wow, has the glow stick scene evolved), breakdancers (sliding on their heads and doing stalls, but no popping/locking contingency), teen girls wearing 6-inch stilettos (they weren't so big on the dancing, for some odd reason...) and even a furry (who had a good time dancing with one of the candy ravers who had glowsticks built into the fingertips of his gloves). There were also the requisite go-go dancers hired by the club, who gyrated near the DJ booth, and, for whatever reason, there was also an aerial dancer. The aerial dancer, while neat to watch, made it impossible for anyone else to dance, so for me it kind of defeated the purpose of performing at a dance club. The upstairs balcony provided a nice respite from the thump-thump-thump-oh-my-god-my-nose-hairs-are-vibrating style of music, but the smoking made it a less than ideal place to hang out (or my lungs just aren't used to the club atmosphere after all the laws were passed banning smoking inside). In the basement, a DJ was spinning hip-hop, which was fine, but in the room next door, the strains of the Cure could be heard. We wandered into that room (apparently the downstairs area is called the catacombs - aptly named), and were transported to Neo, circa 1999. Cute corset-wearing girls with pixie haircuts sporting stompie boots, overweight goth nerd boys with long ponytails dancing like slow motion martial artists, and the token 50-year old wearing a Hawaiian button down, khaki shorts, white socks pulled up his calves, and white sneakers. It was heaven. I jest, but it is amongst the beautiful rejects that I found happiness in The Church. The DJ happily took requests, and I spent the rest of my time dancing to my own personal industrial playlist. On a totally random note, I feel it necessary to mention that The Church also possesses what have to be the nicest bathrooms ever found in a club. Devoid of graffiti, peep holes or nasty trash (seriously ladies? it's too hard to walk 5 feet to put the tampon in the trash?), at no point did I feel I would exit the bathroom with an STD.

The Church is a good last-stop. Go to a quality bar and get buzzed up beforehand, but don't show up late enough to regret paying $10 to get in. And no, the drinks aren't discounted because of the cover charge. Ahh... I just can't seem to resist the corny, least-crowded room downstairs where they play classic wedding reception songs. I'm talking songs from the archive that I had completely wiped from my memory. I'm pretty sure they played the electric slide. The hip-hop room is aaaalways ridiculously and uncomfortably crowded (though I have elbowed my way to dancing on top of the huge speakers before...) and the upstairs techno area is mostly fun to stand around in and people watch. If the weather's nice, spend your time on the patio, especially close to closing time... there's bound to be some entertaining drama on the streets!

For some reason I used to like this place... I can't figure out why though. I mean when I was underage the place was awesome to me. Now that I have had the honor to club it up all over the city I am kinda like woah... Drinks---uber expensive, unless you know a bartender then its not tooo bad... The crowd... its a little intense. I feel like everyone is on the hunt for their next bad mistake after hours... I feel slightly molested when I come here... at least when I venture to the Hip-Hop room. Shouldn't you ask a girl if she wants to dance instead of attack her? Is chivalry dead? AND for all you guys out there who attempt to swoon me with a free shot..? Save you cash and go talk to the girl with the booty shorts and heels... cause this girl IS NOT GOING TO TAKE IT!... phew.. anyways.... Its loud!!!!! O SO LOUD... I fee like I am getting old or something and I am not old at all. I like seeing my fav djs here and try to swindle my way to VIP cause that is soooo much better than hanging out with the masses. EVERY-TIME I have been here someone asks me to buy some pills or white powder...and quite frankly that kinda drives me nutso!! ehhhh I hate that so... Sometimes they have some pretty interesting entertainment... like a mini vegas show. Watching people break dance is pretty awesome too! All in all----its ok... i have been to better places! Buy a few bottles and watch all the kids you babysat dance and act a fool(this happened to me)... its worth the laugh.

Came here my first week in Denver (just moved here!). Had a great time. The guy that runs it was really friendly, even showing me around the place (I had arrived before the club opened). Crowd is early-to-mid twenties, the beer is averagely priced, the music is great and love the feel of the wooden dance floor in the main room. Only negative was the $20 cover charge.

Yep, it's a big ol' church turned multi-roomed dance/music club. Outstanding. Talked my way into a guided tour without paying cover, hostess 40-yr old latina that's worked there 7 years. The main room is quite powerful/amazing, but downstairs is my favorite - brick-pillared small room with dimly lit booths, tons of acoustic privacy, and plenty of 30-40's people so that it's not a total teeny-bopper scene. Both Prince and Marc Anthony have picked this place to hear music and have drinks, and VIP accessible here.

At the end of the new testement Paul the Apostle talks a lot about how the church (of Jesus Christ) should be a place were are all are accepted for who they are. Well after spending many a sunday morning at church with my family and many saturday night on a dancefloor I can tell you that 'The Church' Nightclub is much closer to Paul the Apostles definition than many a religious establishment I have visited. You will expierence the irony of the last paragraph if you ever spend a night under the laser beams at this discoteque. Being as this is a nightclub you will find a lot of 'Denver's Cool Kids' here, but the pretentious atitude is gone somehow. The gyrating congregation accepts all whether they be wearing striped shirts, 3 sizes to large white tees, pinstriped-suits, glowsticks, leather pants, cowboy hats, cocktail dresses, J's, Sandals or bikini's. Whether you smoke or not I highly recomend venturing out to either of the massive patios the church has just to find out what kind of interesting people you are going to end up meeting. I gotta take address the haters... Electronica, House, Drum & Base, breakbeats, Trance or if you are musically uneducated, 'techno' is THE next evolution of music. Those educated about music know that the cutting edge of music is always criticsized by the older, closed minded members of society. Most of the pop & commercailized hip hop beats you hear on the radio are actaully instrumental, most of them are synthisized, modulated bass heavy, electronic beats very similar to the kind of music that has been rocking rave dancefloors for the past 20 years. Producing Hip Hop or Rock music is incredibly easy compared with what it takes to produce a good electronic piece of music. Your average Hip Hop, Rock, Latino or Jazz song has a maximium of 2 unique beats throughout the song, where as an electronica has between 10-15 beats througout the course of a 6 minute track. When someone does ecstacy at a rave it speeds up their brains ability to process and comprehend the more 'complicated' music they are listening to. This is the reason why electronica is such an 'aquired taste', most people's brains are only used too comprehending simplistic hip hop or rock beats. You don't need to do drugs to 'get' techno, be little open minded and give it a chance. I really can't think of a better place than the church to do that. The Church is a unique nightlife expierence, this is one of the very few clubs at Denver that sometimes has a 'legitimate' line to get in. As you pass through the foyer, saints immortalized in stone and stainglass will stare down at you. Speakers the size of SUVs emit soul rattleing bass across a football field sized dancefloor. Erily illuminated Go Go Dancers gyrate. Far on one side of the cavernous room is a large VIP area elevated high above the the dancerfloor. Convientent lounges and seating areas occupy the corners of the club. In the mood for some Hip Hop or Rock? Venture downstairs and you will find a more 'urban' crowd bump'n grinding away to some of our city's best hip hop DJs. This area is MC'd by and sometimes features club banging performances by local rappers. Thurs - Great night for techno fans as they bring in big name international DJs Fri - The biggest clubnight in Colorado, I actaully don't mind paying cover (when i'm not on guestlist) the Traid Dragons bring in big house & trance DJs, the production of this night is really off the hook, its not unusaul to see gorgeous go go dancers, stilt walkers, lasers & acrobats suspended from the ceiling... get their early on some nights & you can get free tixs to concerts Sat - Latino night on all three dancefloors, bring a date!! Sun - If ur a goth this is the spot to be!! Hip Hop is played on the main floor & it is def hit or miss

The good, the bad, the beautiful--you'll find it all at the Church. I'm not a fan of techno, or clubbing in general, so this isn't the first place I think of going to on a night out. However, this is a really cool place, and I've enjoyed it every time I've been there. What's coolest about this place is the multiple rooms. You're bound to find something you like here. They host big-time acts in the big auditorium room, but my favorite is the Goth room. The down side, of course, is the bloated prices.

Weak, overpriced drinks and a whole lot of attitude. What's the point?

Gotta groove *** Star three is for letting me shake my tush and feel sexy and I got to makeout... yumm

Went back again, wasn't as bad this time.... saw Daedelus, which was very cool. again the scene is too much, bouncers need leather gloves? what they need is to pick up the empty cups.

Check it out! coclubs.com

Of course anytime I go to a club and I usually prepare before hand I always bring ear plugs regardless of the sound system.

went there yesterday on 8/28/16.

DAMNIT. I should of caught on to this trick after the first time.

mother tells me its time to find a new wife. the frist one left 7 years ago so i leave minnesota for denver. this is not the place for me the music was too loud to talk an dmeet with new people. there are other places for drink with less money to spend the boys there liked my clothes.

one of the only club in denver that plays more than hip hop and techno. i love the industrial room in the basement. the people are quite nice, beautiful and i get to hear great music. its usually not too crowded but enough for it not to be boring. the downside is the drink prices are pretty pricey but it is free to get in [if you are 21+ and female] and the bartenders arent the best. parking is also a downside.

not a fan of the music (techno-ey) or the crowd (though the place was not crowded). or the church itself. i was imagining something more...majestic, but it turned out to be much ghettoer than expected. perhaps i didn't go on the right night. i don't know. my experience was pretty lame.
