This review is for their challah since I'm yet to try their bagels (I know, I know) We ordered a giant challah from here for our wedding and it was awesome and inexpensive. Because we ordered one that was so large everyone was able to enjoy it and I'm glad we went that route. I'll be back to order challahs from here again and to pick up some bagels!

The Bagel Store showed up in my search for paczki. Called to confirm if they did in fact have these polish treats. Initially the woman on the other end was very warm, when I explained what it was I was looking for and if in fact they did have them, I received a cutting "No" and click of the line. The pure rudeness, Ill certainly never be a customer regardless how good the reviews are.

I moved here from NYC. The website says, "New York Style Bagels", but the bagels are not New York style, unless soft-style bagels have invaded and colonized NYC. These are soft-style bagels. The bagels are not like H&H's bagels (or other NYC bagel stores) as another reviewer claimed. Positive point: They have whitefish salad. It is the first time I've had it since moving to Denver, and it was great to have. They also have loaves of bread and pastries which this review does not cover.

By far the best bagels you can get in the Denver area! So fresh and delicious, their salt bagels are my favorite.

No frills bagel shop serving what might be the best bagel I've had in Colorado. While I'm no fine dining expert, I do consider myself very well versed in important topics like pizza, bagels, and beer. And while there's no shortage of good beer in CO, the options for pizza and bagels can be sorely lacking in comparison to my home state of NJ. I found this place thanks to Yelp and knew I had to try it out for myself. I was SO impressed. I was lucky enough to get there right as a fresh batch was coming out and I ordered 2 egg bagels. They don't toast them or prepare them for you, so I got a tub of Rachael's veggie cream cheese to go. The bagel was perfect-- crusty and slightly chewy on the outside, giving way to a warm, soft center. So 5 stars as far as that's concerned. But I have to deduct a star for the cream cheese. It was just not good at all. I'm pretty bummed I bought a tub of it. They also have Philly cream cheese there but I don't consider that much of an alternative. However, the bagels are good enough to be eaten alone so that's what I will do next time!

I just got back from a trip to NYC and must say, I was a little disappointed with my bagel experience, which I chalk up to the bagel store raising the bagel bar! These bagels are great, seriously better than the best I could find in "the city". Unfortunate, I'm not living in Denver, but I make it a point to pick up some of these whenever I'm back, I even try to take some back to SC when I can.

Was expecting authentic NY bagels that were crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Nothing special about the bagels here. Maybe the weekend isn't a good day to get bagels here.

Pay no attention to the scattered bad reviews from people who inexplicably wanted pazckis or Philly cream cheese and couldn't find it here. Go complain about how you couldn't get a chicken nugget at Le Bernadin. Truly: This is the only place to go in Denver for bagels. Maybe the only place in all of Colorado or the West. They do it right --- boil and bake. They end up chewy and flaky and if you arrive to get one while it's still warm, you will sit in your car and eat it and sigh with happiness. They don't sell stupid cinnamon asiago spinach feta crunch bagels. They sell real challah. Real bialys. Real everything. It's like stepping into a Zabars or Murrys or H&H in Manhattan, only their prices are better and there's rarely a line. If only we lived closer.

I have had these bagels, never been in the store though. They are delicious! As others have said its a little crusty on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. My favs are the sesame and blueberry (very subtle). Go support local businesses!

The bagel store was recommended to me as a shop that made good bagels. I went twice and got about 20 assorted bagels total, just to make sure. The recommendation, along with most of these other reviews, was crap. This is no bagel shop. It is a circular bread shop. In the words of my Russian Jewish father, these bagels have "gone the way of all bad bagels." To elaborate, the bagels are too light, too fluffy, too delicate, and don't have any flavor. The pumpernickel tastes like a plain bagel that they artificially colored brown. The cinnamon raisin completely disintegrates and tears apart when you try to shmear it. A bagel that cannot handle a standard shmearing is no bagel at all. The egg bagels, while they actually do taste like egg bagels, are not nearly dense enough. They get crunchy and cracker-like when toasted because they do not have the density to withstand a decent toasting. They retain very little of the chew that a bagel ought to have in the middle. If you cut one of these Bagel Store bagels in half it is obvious that they are over-risen because the holes in the dough are too big. (not the hole in the middle, but the holes in the cut surface of the bagel) Some flavors are better than others, indicating poor quality control, but I use the word flavors cautiously because all the flavors really taste about the same. On a positive note, the staff is friendly and I was helped immediately each time I went into the store. I hate to say it, because I do like supporting local businesses, but Breugger's is better. Breugger's has some issues, but their bagels, sadly, are closer to what I would be willing to call a real bagel. Right now, at this moment, I am eating a pumpernickel bagel from the Bagel Store. It has the right texture, but if I was blindfolded I would not guess pumpernickel. It just doesn't have the taste at all. Not even close. Just tastes like plain. Looks brown... tastes white. If this was the texture of all their bagels I would be relatively happy. Its not. This is the best texture of the bunch. The other flavors are slightly closer to their intended taste profile. Unfortunately, as the flavor goes up, the texture comes down to the fluffy, delicate, tear-apart crap I mentioned above. If they could get a nice texture and an authentic flavor in the same bagel, I would change my mind and go back there. No hard feelings. Alas, I doubt that will happen.

I am not Jewish but "The Bagel Store" is good enough to make me want to convert! Legit bagels that go toe to toe with anything in NYC. All of the pastries are over the top good too. Try *anything* and you won't be disappointed.

Oh my! Bagels! Real, toothy, flavorful Bagels! The salted tops are my new favorite! I sat in the parking lot and ate four of them! Friday seems to be the best day for a full selection... I'll never eat at Einstein's or Brugers again!

The Bagel Store is the place to find fresh bagels, challah, and scrumptious pastries, all strictly Kosher. Conveniently located near Leetsdale on Monaco, The Bagel Store is a Denver institution!

I've been bummed since moving here from NYC because there have been no "legit" bagels. Bummed until today, that is! My friend recommended this place months ago and I'd completely forgotten about it. Mostly because it's tucked away in a shopping plaza in the middle of nowhere (to me, anyway.) I got there 5 minutes before it closed. There was nothing left. There was, however, a cranky Orthodox woman buying a bunch of bread and complaining about the price. That's how I knew I was in a good spot. I bought 4 bagels and a little tub of cream cheese to go. Going back next week!

This is what the sign says. Bagel shop in a strip mall. But the bagels are yum. Chewey.Delish!! I love little gems that are look all divey with treasure inside. THats what this is!!

No frills, just straightforward quality product. Authentic chewy, tender, toothsome Jewish-style NY bagels in a variety of traditional flavors. Also, they have excellent challah, mandel bread and hamentaschen. Be sure to check the hours before heading over - it's best to get there earlier than later for better selected. First come first serve.

My wife is a born and raised new yorker and she was recently lamenting the fact that there are no good bagel options in this part of the world. I was tasked with finding a bagel place that offers egg bagels and bialys. This is the place I decided on. I am happy to report that this place is actually pretty good. I would say it is clearly the best we have found in Denver so far. Even the wife (with her bagel snobbery) seemed relatively pleased. We will be back.

  • Sam U.

Just like the Yelp rating system says,"meh, I've experienced better." The bagel was decent, but I am kind of a bagel snob. No where in Denver has a bagel that gives you that, "this is amazing!" scream in your head, and this place is surely on that list. I am a little offended at all of the comments here that are demeaning the people who don't give this place a rave review saying they know nothing about bagels and claiming their Judaism as proof they know what they are talking about. I'm also Jewish, so I apologize I do not agree with you. In the end I would give this place 3 or 4 stars if they didn't have Philadelphia Light cream cheese. Seriously?! How can you defend a place that sells supermarket cream cheese with no shame. At least if you don't want to take the minimal effort to make your own cream cheese, since you are a bagel shop and that is kind of the second main ingredient and all, at least get your cream cheese from another shop. This is akin to a restaurant having amazing homemade pasta, but only Prego to put on top of it.

My family is obsessed with this place even though it's at least a 30-minute drive each way. Best bagels I've had since moving from NY in 2001. I know my bagels and these are fantastic!! I just read the other reviews and Christopher is clearly an idiot, at least when it comes to bagels (sorry, Christopher, I really hate to trash a fellow Yelper). #1...I do not judge my bagel stores on whether or not they sell eggs or butter. I can get those elsewhere, but I can't get good bagels elsewhere. #1b...these bagels need no embellishments. #2...going to Brooklyn for a good bagel is not an option Saturday morning when I want a good bagel. Give me a break! I don't think that a fair comparison because it's not an option. I go with whatever is hot and everyone in the car eats 1-2, plain, on the way home moaning with delight. My favorites are the everything and salt bagels and my mouth is watering just thinking about them. Sadly, they are always out of bialys but on the last trip I learned that they make only 12 a day. No wonder! Now that I know this, I will take their suggestion and call to put specific things on hold. Yippee, 10 bialys still left today and I'm picking those up. Been a long time since I've had one. Their vanilla mondelbrot are some of my favorite cookies ever. Like biscotti (I don't really like biscotti) but so much better. Funny hours so make sure to call first. Very no-frills with no seats so you just order, pay and go. Also, in case this needs to be said, they will be hard as rocks the next day. Better than nothing is freezing and toasting them...not remotely close to fresh, though.

Being from NY and appreciating a bagel, I think this store is as good as its gets in Denver. I have tried bagels all over the state, and there is only one other almost as good bagel store, and its over an hour away. And this store makes Pletzel too, so it wins hands down! This store reminds me of the little bagel shop on my block in Brooklyn. Opens early, sells nothing but bagels and a few other baked items, and runs out early in the day. Thats how you know its a good bagel store, they do what they do best, and don't try and glamor you with fancy creme cheese. The only thing that would make the bagels better are real NY Water, and a little more humidity in the air. But then I would never need to go home to NY. I find it sad that they got a bad review for being closed on Passover. Silly people, you can't eat bagels during Passover.

So I can't compare these to Moe's. They each are different. At Moe's it's all about what goes in between the bagel halves. At The Bagel Store it's more about just the bagel. I had a sesame bagel for breakfast and a poppyseed bagel for dinner. Both were nice and soft in the middle, not dense at all. Nice and crunchy on the outside. They were out of salt one of my faves. This is a solid bagel. This is just a bakery. Bread, bagels, rolls, rugelach and hamantaschen are available. There is a fridge with philadelphia cream cheese. She will slice the bagels, but don't expect to get them fancied up here. The challah rolls were okay slightly too crispy on the outside but a good flavor. No credit cards, it's really cheap. I bought 3 challah rolls and 6 bagels for less than $7. Close at 2p most days, 6p on Thurs and Fri I think.

There are some sad bagel places outside of NY but this one is actually pretty good. I'd give it a 4 with the advice that it is inflated somewhat bc of the area. That said the bagels are good, didn't taste like they were made that morning but who knows! If you are like me , a misplaced NYer looking for bagel in Denver, this is a pretty good substitute.

  • Christopher C.

I went here based on the reviews and frankly I am shocked that people say how NY this place is. First off this place would be shut down in a week if it was in NY. they should change the sign to bakery not bagels. No fresh cream cheese or butter no eggs no anything not even temp-tee cream cheese, just run of the mill packaged philly cream cheese . I was there at about 1:00 and they barely had any bagels left. I got 1 salt and 1 garlic. They were OK at best nothing great about them, I will say they are better than Einstein's but that is not saying much. Also as others mentioned cash only. Definitely will not be going back. Everyone that says this place is NY style needs to go to Brooklyn to Bergen Bagels and then tell me how good this place is. bergenbagel.com

I'm no New Yorker, but I have had me some darn good New York bagels in my day. This is such a sweet, family business. The bagels are all the classics, and you need to go early, otherwise they sell out! I was pleasantly surprised by their pastries and I look forward to trying more. I can't remember the name, but the triangular scone-like pastries with the jam fillings are very good! They are very light and quite buttery ;).

This is the best bagel I've had in Denver! They put toppings on both sides of the bagel and the consistency of the dough is just right. I will definitely be coming back here!!

  • Topaz A.

Very tasty moist and chewy bagels. I wish they had more variety of flavors. I got there about 30 minutes before closing and they had good bagels still left and they still tasted fresh. The challah is excellent - perhaps the best in town! They do accept credit cards so maybe that is something new. They have other pastries and cakes that I did not try yet but everything looks good. This is not a sit down place and not very fancy, just a good all-around bakery.

  • Felicia F.

I am not sure who has been in this store lately, but they had no really good bagels when i went, the lady was rude because I asked if they had any good gables, not just plain or multi grain crap that no one wants. I was so disappointing I left. They wouldn't even sell me any cookies. They looked gross anyway.

I'm not from the East Coast, but they do make the best bagels....and this is about as good as it gets in Colorado. This is truly the closest thing I've found to a New York bagel since I moved to Denver. Fluffy, fresh, good. Unlike a Moe's bagel (Sorry Coloradans, I think they are pretty tasteless and hard), these are a joy to eat. It's a little hard to find and out of the way, but well worth the effort! Go get some!!

Bagels. They're everywhere in Denver. Good bagels? I had given up on finding a good bagel anywhere West of Buffalo. Then I started my new job and we had a fantastic Challah and bagels brought in. Chewy but soft bagels...that's the best way to describe it sorta... it's hard to explain, but if you have had a real bagel, you get it. Bagels so tasty you don't need cream cheese or lox (but they sure would be tasty on top). I had heard through the Westword that they carried salt bagels, a VERY east coast thing and bialies (also VERY east coast). I had also heard from a co-worker that their pumpernickel bagels are amazing. And with that I knew I'd be making a trip into the shop this weekend. So today was my first actual trip into the bagel store, a very small and unassuming shop. The was helping the people in front of him and I surveyed the case. They had your basic bagels: plain, sesame poppy, garlic, onion, pumpernickel, salt, cinnamon raisin and everything. If one was looking for a walnut cranberry orange bagel or the like, they would be disappointed. But those aren't really bagels. Sadly, I noticed there were no pumpernickel ones or bialies. Shoot. The people in front of me asked if there were any pumpernickel left and he said they were in the oven yay. So when the clerk asked me what I wanted I asked how long it would be till the pumpernickel were done. 10 minutes? Great, I'd come back. Were there going to be more bialies? He then pointed to where he kept those and asked if I wanted to save a few since once those were gone, they were gone. Absolutely, please hold 4. I come back, and there they are, fresh hot, pumpernickel bagels. So I get my baker's dozen + my 4 bialies. As he's putting the salt bagels in a bag, I tell him how jazzed I am about the salt bagels having lived in upstate NY. Come to find out I'm chatting with the owner. Lovely guy. Star 1 is for REAL bagels Star 2 is for the bialies and salt bagels Star 3 is for it being reasonably priced-$8.95 for a baker's dozen?! Shop around. That's cheaper than Moe's or Einsteins...and those aren't very good. Star 4 is for it being a Vegan option (except the egg bagels and challah of course) Star 5 is for amazingly friendly service and the fact the owner is "hands on". *One thing to keep in mind: They do not take credit/debit cards. So bring cash or your checkbook.

Bagel: Grain-based round that is the perfect combination of crunch (outside) and smoosch (inside)... often topped with various spices or seeds to add flavor of variety. Store: Location to facilitate retail transactions. Basically, this is not a place to grab a bite, a coffee, or enjoy your morning bagel. This is a drop-in location to snag some fabulous bagels at a great deal. They are super no frills (i.e. philadelphia cream cheese tubs, nothing homemade or interesting, and like i mentioned above, no coffee). They are VERY reasonably priced ($2.95 for the aforementioned individual cream cheese, everything bagel and 6 mini-bagels).... and they are tasty (i think i downed my bagel before i made it back home... oops!) I would definitely come back (with my cash only!) and pick up some more.

Ok. So I was super excited to try this place because of my dear friend Yelp. Mind you...its tricky to find for one, its in a strip mall...tucked in a corner I believe by a Hobby Lobby??? Anyway, so I walked in and got a blank stare from the counter-boy. He seemed nice, just ....shy. So thankfully I've done this before and I got an everything bagel with cream cheese. He rung me up (and thankfully I had cash----nice note from Matt, Chrissy, and Mark). The bagel was delicious! I don't know if they would have toasted it....I was just hungry so I didn't ask. The shop is very....plain. Its like a plain bagel. Very no-nonsense. Probably will be back when I'm in the neighborhood ....or need a dozen for work or road trip. :D

Geez, you must all be from upstate New York, and not from the city, because while these bagels are fresh and well made, they miss out on 3 key ingredients of a great bagel: crisp outside, chewy inside, and a certain taste that you can only get from New York water (or Montreal). These are a bit bland. Plenty of onion, plenty of sesame seeds, but they just miss for me. On the other hand, if all you know about bagels is Brueggers or Einstein, then this is the place for you to move up a few notches.

GREAT bagels. I'm from NJ and missed authentic East Coast bagels terribly. I'll eat other bagels, but will definitely drive way out of my way for these. They take cc for orders $10+.

As a fellow East Coaster, I have long complained to my coworkers that they don't even know what a good bagel is. This place makes a darn good bagel, but I don't think anyone out here will approach a good EC bagel simply because of the altitude. I also wanted to follow up on Gene W's comment: "FYI - the other 2 bagel shops on my list: New York Bagel on Wadsworth is a great shop The other is off of Hampden & I-25 (by Staples) in a small strip of stores" I believe the other location he is speaking about is Bagel Deli, review will follow. I love this place also, and when I asked if they made their bagels in store, they actually confessed that they buy them from the Bagel Store. yelp.com/biz/the-bagel-d…

I can't claim NYC, Jewish, or Eastern European cred-- I'm Japanese American and a Denver native-- but I know a good bagel when I eat one! The texture of these is perfect, not like those strangely cake-like ones you get at Einstein's and such places. Perfect chew on these, and when you get an onion bagel, the onion bits are all over, not just on top. The place looks really unimpressive, and if your timing is off, your selection is minimal, but it's worth waiting for whatever is finishing in the back. And a fresh everything bagel from this place can't be beat!

Being from the East Coast, I am pretty picky as to what I call a "good" bagel. Out here we are overloaded with Einstein & Brueggers and the people out here have accepted them as good bagels. Used to drive me nuts that whenever someone would bring in bagels to work, they were always from one of these places, yuck. Well, in my opinion, there are only 3 places in town that offer "very good" bagels. This is probably the best. I found out about them after reading in the Westward. Its hidden away in the corner, and when you come in, ahhhh..... it has the smell of a REAL east coast style bagel bakery. You know you are in for a treat when you come in. I was very happy to see that they carry salt bagels everyday. One of the other places on my top 3 list only has them on Fridays. The salt bagel is my favorite, but its not very popular here. I thik its and East Coast thing. The bagels here have a great soft chewy center and a crisp outer shell. So classic. A couple things of note. They do NOT make sandwiches. They wont toast it for you. Nor will they slice it and put your favorite spread on it. You want a bagel? Buy it. Then complete it on your own time. LOL Also, they do NOT take credit / debit cards. Come with cash or check only. By the way, they also sell various breads, donuts and occasionally pretzels. FYI - the other 2 bagel shops on my list: New York Bagel on Wadsworth is a great shop The other is off of Hampden & I-25 (by Staples) in a small strip of stores

I'm no New Yorker, but I know what a great knosh is. As bare bones as can be, tough to find but more than worth the effort. Incredible smells, quick service, no toasting, no splitting, no spreading, just the best bagel I've had in this town by far. Almost ate all of my purchase in the car! Every flavor bagel is a winner, early morning seems to be the best time to be there, nothing like the warm chewy goodness of a fresh properly made bagel.

Oy! Are you meshuge? Don't even try to tell me that thing with onions you're eating is called a bagel. What kind of shlemiel do you take me for... what shtuss. Who can eat such chozzerai? In Baltimore, they could make a bagel to die for. In California they make what, a piece bread with the hole kvetched shut? They ought to call it a kegel! As for Colorado ... Einstein Brothers? Noahs? Feh! Don't get me started. The Bagel Store, now they know how to keep it kosher, and for such a low price, you wouldn't believe. You want a nosh? Get off your tokhes! Monaco & Tennessee ... so, go already!

This is the place I use as a reference when I eat bagels anywhere else. Traditional texture and flavor you won't find with the bagels being sold at most bagel shop/restaurants or even grocers. They have to be the traditional boiled not steamed to have this chewy a texture. If you haven't tried a Bialy yet, then you've been missing out. The best so far.

These bagels are amazing!! Lots of varieties, and they bake all day. I love the salt bagels and the cookies. Bring cash because they don't take credit cards. I never have cash, so my first transaction here ended with an embarassing IOU. The people behind the counter are VERY nice. They close early in the afternoon, so get over there!

I absolutely LOVE these Bagels! I was originally from out east and bagels were a staple of my diet. After moving to Denver I really struggled to find bagels that were up to par. I was SO GLAD when I found this place the bagels are perfect!

If you live in Denver and are looking for a good bagel, look no further; the Bagel Store in Glendale is the real deal. Authentic, NY-style bagels, just like I can get back home. They blow Einstein's, Bruggers, Panera and even Moe's away. The difference is that these guys know that in order to make a bagel really a "bagel", you need to boil before you bake. That's how you get the right consistency and crust. They've got this method down. With reference to the 2-star reviewer whose best alternative was to send all us Denver residents to Brooklyn every time we want to get our bagel-fix satiated, I say the Bagel Store in Glendale is our next best option to booking a flight to JFK every weekend. Maybe compared to Wykagyl Bagels (my hometown bagel place in New Rochelle, NY) or H&H or this guy's favorite in Brooklyn, our place in Glendale isn't quite the same. But for those of us in Denver who crave an authentic NY bagel (and can deal with Philly cream cheese since Temp-tee doesn't want to distribute out here), I say the Bagel Store is where it's at. Now, if only Pablo's would start carrying them, all would be right with my Denver world.

We just moved around the corner from this place. Tried it this morning, and it is SPECTACULAR. I moved out of the northeast in 1996 and I think this is the best bagel I have had since. No frills, just great bagels. We will be frequenting this place for sure. They also have breads and a bunch of other stuff that we will try at some point. Go try this place before you go to Einstein's again. One note...CASH ONLY.

My kids Nana gets her bagels here and surprisingly, these are their favorites. No cheese, no jalapenos, no flavored cream cheese. Just the basics old style bagel the size of your fist, not a frisbee. Take it from Nana -- a Long Island Jewish girl who bravely moved here in the 50's, this is the shizzle.

They're kosher (who knew?) which I was told means 1) they can't toast your bagel and 2) they can't apply spread to the bagel for you. To me, these are two must-haves for a bagel shop. I left disappointed and feeling slightly confused, mainly because I spent over 7 years in the Jewish deli & bagel capital of the country and never heard of such a thing. Two stars for friendly staff, but if you're looking to purchase a bagel for breakfast, I'd advise to look elsewhere.

Finally made it here, albeit late on a Sunday afternoon. Selection was dwindling as it was close to closing, but there were still people in and out the whole time. Friendly staff, we got a half dozen bagels and some small pastries. I LOVED my everything and whole wheat and the pastries were really amazing too, my husband said they were exactly like his (now dearly departed) Grandmother's pastry dough/pie crusts. We will have to come back for more and to try the breads, they looked amazing, we just didn't want to order too much! Well its less than 24 hours later and nothing's left! :D
