I want to loooove this coffee shop that's near my house and a convenient stop on a morning dog walk around Berkeley Lake. I actually had a houseguest come here before I did and he raved about this place, especially the live mellow guitarist (I think this is only Saturdays). But after a few visits, I've been disappointed in both the lackluster-bordering-on-snide service and BAD breakfast burrito. I think these used to come from La Casita across the street but it's been razed for a while now so I'm not sure where these faux burritos come from. They were tiny, flat, cold and minus cheese...and thus overpriced as well. I love their apple cider too as mentioned in a previous review, and the coffee is decent. I also think the adjoining library-ish area is a totally cool idea. So I won't write them off, but I won't eat breakfast here again either. PS Thanks for leaving bowls of water out for the pooches passing by :)

Totally dig this place and the DazBog coffee they serve! Staff is super friendly and had live music on a Saturday afternoon to enhance your mellow. Dog friendly patio is thumbs up from me, one of the barista's even ran out to pet my little guy and give him a lil treat! Oh and the banana bread was awesome as well!

This is a great, quiet spot to study or make use of the free wifi or free in-house computers. They have a decent selection of prepackaged sandwiches and buritoes, which you have to unwrap and nuke yourself in the microwave on top of the creamer cart. The Dazbog coffee is good. The staff could be friendlier, but maybe I've just grown accustomed to the hyper-smiley required friendliness of Starbucks employees. I just wish the place was a little cozier and had some comfy chairs to sit in.

So, I'm going to keep going to Tenn Street because it's just so convenient, but I'm not going to be excited about it. Other than one weekday morning dude, the entire staff seems annoyed to have to deal with customers, which, ya know, seems like a bad set-up in a neighborhood that needs its regulars. The coffee is good, and if you need to sit anonymously and get a lot of work done, Tenn Street is generally quiet (when there's not live music) and fits the bill. But it you can split the distance and walk to Cafe Caliente or Taza de Cafe, instead, you'll avoid being glared at.

This is a great neighborhood coffee shop. They make good coffee and lattes and have a good selection of chais and other non-coffee drinks. There's usually some kind of funky jazzy music in the background and the space is clean (not divey, which can be a problem at some local coffee joints) and filled with local art, magazines and books. They even have local musicians come in and play on weekends. On the patio, they have a few tables for you to people watch on Tennyson street, and a dog bowl for Rover. I come here to grab a quick coffee on the way to work. I come here to linger over a latte on a lazy Sunday morning. It's perfect for both.

One of my favorite local coffee houses, with free wifi, live music, built in bookstore, and patio seating, this little coffee house has everything that you could want, though I do like a little more punch in my Americano.

Tenn Street Coffee is a quaint coffee shop in the NW corner of Denver. The area it's located in looks up and coming with several venues and restaurants nearby. I came here on a date to have a cup of coffee and enjoy a live band that was playing gypsy jazz. The jazz was nice, although the space was a bit small to accommodate them. People who came to hear them play were really packed in. I ordered a small cappuccino. To my disappointment, the cup felt completely empty. There were only a few sips of espresso to be had on the bottom. The rest was partially air, and partially foam. I expect to get foam with a cappuccino, but this was like I had paid for a cup of air. However, the barista was nice, the espresso that was at the bottom of my cup was bold, but not too bitter, and I enjoyed relaxing and watching the band play. If I lived in the area, it's likely I'd give Tenn Street Coffee another try, but since it's across the city for me, I probably won't be back.

Great space for coffee, espresso and a quick breakfast bite. Perfect for a quick meeting or to get some work done. Ample parking around the place and other options for an early lunch or dinner. Probably one of my favorite coffee shops in town.

Great coffee and great service! There is always something interesting going on in the cafe- typically great live music! They also have a wonderful front patio. I wish they were open a little later on weeknights but other than that... no complaints!

Such a cute little coffee shop. Staff is friendly and helpful when i walk in and say - my hubby want's the frozen coffee mocha thingy... Gotta love that! It is not the fastest process for anything but straight coffee, but the coffee is hot and full of caffeine! Definitely great to support the local shop!

Cozy cafe with friendly baristas, free wifi, and lots of books. Like a quirky little library!

While I have probably walked by this coffee shop a million times, it was the used book cart outside that finally drew me in. Since I love books and coffee this shop is great! I wish I would have taken the time to stop in sooner. Their used book selection is impressive with unique finds along with plenty of popular reads. I spent about an hour browsing and found five great books - more than I usually find at my other favorite used book haunts. Tenn Street Coffee is a real page turner for book lovers!

I went here prior to work to get a cup of coffee and something for breakfast. This was the nearest, highest rating establishment on the way to work so I decided to stop by and check it out. Since it was early in the morning there wasn't an issue finding street parking for free. The service was great, the guy behind the counter was really nice. I got a latte which ended up being pretty good, nothing out of the world but worth the money. The muffin on the other hand was not that great. I know that there are different methods for cooking pastries and other breakfast treats but I think this particular muffin was older and stale. Sometimes through the way it is baked they naturally come out harder, or have a different textured crust, but I am fairly certain that was not the case with this particular muffin, it just tasted as if it had been there several days and was stale and crumbly. Overall the place wasn't that bad, I would stop there again if I was nearby and needed some coffee, but I wouldn't go out of my way to stop there like I do for other establishments.

The place itself is nice, comfortable and warm. They sell books as well as, coffee and treats. The employees are also personable. BUT, they sell Dazbog coffee. With all the superior independent roasters in Colorado, like Corvus, Conscientious, Novo, and Boxcar, just to name a few, why sell an inferior coffee like Dazbog? If we want Dazbog coffee, we'll go to one of the Dazbog franchises.

We arrived a little early prior to the Chef and Brew Event at the Oriental theater and decided to grab a coffee and chat for a while. This place has such wonderful potential. A cozy atmosphere with book cases and nicely arranged seating gives this place a great coffee bar vibe. Our coffee was piping hot and served correctly. One thing that's holding this place back was the woman waiting on us that night. She shouldn't crack a smile or any emotion other than "I hate my life" vibe. I even attempted to try extra hard to be overly friendly and conversational and still nothing. If you don't want to be in customer service, GET OUT, or do what the rest of us do and fake it until you make it. I will be back to see if this was just an off night, hopefully I will have a chance to update this review and give another star.

A great place wonderful coffee great snacks pastries free Wi-Fi and the money you spend me there stays in Denver doesn't go to Seattle. The staff is friendly and not standoffish great place on Saturday and Sundays for live acoustic music

Some of the better prices of the coffee places on Tennyson. The right food, good baristas, ocasional live music, and in walking distance, my kind of place.

I wish I could like this place... I really do. I have tried. I've filled up 2 whole frequent buyer cards! It's walkable and I love the patio seating. However, my regular order of a small nonfat latte is consistently inconsistent and blah. It's tasted burned on several occasions and half the time it's a cappuccino and the other times it's a LOT of milk with espresso. Not a latte. I was excited when I saw the sandwiches from Udi's and then disappointed when I saw the price - a good $2 more than at Vitamin Cottage. I know I have to pay for convenience but $2 more is unreasonable. The Breggos are similarly overpriced. The service is hit or miss which might also explain the inconsistent coffee prep. Some friendly people though, I just wish they could make a good latte.

  • Leanne G.

This is a nice coffee shop in a very convenient location. I like the coffee. Its nice that they have Udi's sandwiches - a quality local option for a nice snack or lunch! The atmosphere is 'Denver Hipster' with a little psychedelic flare thrown in for good measure!!!

My friend bought a living social deal for cheap books at Tenn Street Coffee. She and I stopped in one Saturday so that she could cash in her coupon. I'm a sucker for used books, so I was pretty pumped. Coffee and books are usually an award winning combination! This place was not at all what I expected. There aren't many books, which is fine. But the books they do have line the walls of the coffee shop. There are tables pushed up against the book cases. So really, you have one of two options: 1.) stand over people who are sitting at a table and browse for books over their shoulder or 2.) lean over and/or climb under empty tables to search for books out of reach. It just shouldn't be that hard. I guess "books" are going out of style, especially with the ebook revolution. With that, I can understand the set up. The coffee shop is a obviously the primary business. However, I'm still a sucker for a good used bookstore...

There's really only one reason for me to come here. That is the blended caramel latte. This thing is so ridiculously good. I'm generally a hot vanilla latte guy, but this blended caramel goodness tastes like a gingerbread house (I don't know why) and it's my guilty pleasure.

This place has a cozy feel without being squished together. There is plenty of space, and the tables are full of people reading and working on their computers. It has free wifi (always important) and offers open computers to use if you don't have your own. Tenn Street is packed on First Fridays, and they have quite a few events, including live music, which has never failed to be good. I haven't tried their food, but their coffee is exactly what to expect. One thing that's great is they offer real authentic English black tea- something that's hard to find here in the states, much less in Denver! So definitely bonus points for that. The 'used books' aspect is different than you would expect. I agree with Rebecca P. when she says it's not conducive to browsing. I find it does add to the atmosphere to be surrounded by books, even if I can't look through them because there are tables in front of the shelves. Plenty of outdoor seating, which is also a huge plus! They also have a program where they give away their coffee grounds for your garden or compost. I know a lot of places do that but it's a bonus in my book.

  • Eve V.

Lovely atmosphere with books, cute areas to sit and drink a cup of coffee/tea and they serve mate lattes...great start, but I've tried their coffee so many times and it's inconsistant at best, burnt tasting at worst. I want so badly to give them a great review they are so close to home and I literally walk past them for work, but due to the coffee not being up to par, sadly I give them a low rating despite their mate and book love.

Tenn Street Coffee sells coffee, books, pastries and reheated warm snacks. They also have a bunch of desktop computers you can use if you happen to be craving Internet access but don't have your computer with you. The place is cozy, the service friendly, and the selection is standard for a local coffeeshop. Unfortunately, Tenn Street serves Dazbog Coffee. Dazbog is like a gourmet coffee roaster, except not as good. Dazbog advertises itself as Russian coffee with clever reuse of Soviet-era propaganda style posters, which sounds about right, because their coffee is what I imagine communist coffee to be like: mediocre. But still, everything else about Tenn Street is awesome, so if you happen to like Dazbog's flavor, go for it.

Such a quaint little coffee shop with live music on the weekends, great patio to work in the sun and a calming atmosphere to get some work done! Killer Caramel Apple Cider!

I like this coffee shop for a couple of reasons. One, they have live music. Two, they have enough tables where I can sit down and work on my projects or papers. Three, they have books that I can either buy or pick up and read when I'm having a nice cup of joe. They also have goodies to buy including burritos, sandwiches and fresh fruit. The staff is friendly and the inside is cozy. Also, in the warmer months you can sit on the patio with your pup.

I want to love Tenn Street Coffee, I really do. I love neighborhood coffee shops, especially those that serve tasty treats, play local music and have wifi. Like I said, I want to love this place but I don't. I will start with the positive: the burritos and tamales from La Casita are delicious, the local musicians playing in the corner are a nice touch and the cheap books could be an added bonus. On the negative: the service is dreadful. No amount of coffee, breakfast burritos or chill music can ever make up for the look of complete disinterest or, as Gitana below described, "sniggering" that one receives from the staff. What can I say, I would like my morning coffee with a smile. I will have to get my coffee and burrito elsewhere... Taza de Cafe, please don't let me down.

Tenn Street often has live music. The ones I've heard so far were great. Coffee is good and expensive - total no-brainer since all coffee shops are quite alike these days. There are no $2 latte's in town :( One half of the shop is covered in bookshelves and you won't need a laptop to keep yourself entertained. Free wifi is solid, in case books won't cut it for you. Maybe bring a splitter, there aren't too many outlets. My favorite thing about the shop is its awesome location right at the Northern end of the Tennyson business district. Always worth a visit.

Don't go on Wednesday night at 8:00 P.M. to buy coffee for your coffee maker. The barista was super unfriendly and makes you feel like a moron if you aren't a coffee expert. In the neighborhood, but we won't go back.

  • Scott S.

I have been to this coffee shop off and on for several years now, and as anything, it waxes and wanes. Right now it seems to be dong pretty good, with speedy service and good coffee and drinks. About the only downside to this joint is the fact it is hard to browse the books when you end up leaning over a laptop user who wants to continue to work on that project that will save the world. More room would help, and if you don't want to have some large hairy man leaning over you and your laptop, well, sit on the side with no books, but then you wouldn't have a reason to bitch, would you?

I'm a regular of Tenn Street so that must mean something is right. The Dazbog coffee is good and I drink mine black, and the food case is filled with grab and go lunch stuff as well as pastries, some good and some not so. I'm a fan of the pumpkin chocolate bread and usually get that. I've had the burritos and the Udi's but wasn't impressed. Books galore and you can always find something to while away your time reading. If you really like it you can purchase it at the counter. Very reasonable used book prices. Not just free wifi, but a wall of computers for you to use. Now that is nice! There is a lot of seating both for individuals or smaller groups and while the chairs aren't cushy soft, they are comfortable enough to spend hours working on. There are two cushy chairs in the back though. The patio outside is nice if nobody is smoking. You can tie up the pooch and enjoy the neighbors as they come by. You might have to adjust the table a bit so your drink doesn't go sloshing away, but the outside seating is nice. Bathroom (singular) is always clean. The wait staff is iffy. I know exactly what the other reviewer was talking about regarding the sniggering redhead. Not sure what's up with that, but I used to live in Manitou Springs and I guess I got used to eccentric behavior from people behind counters. She is nice though, and I prefer or pretend that I'm not the subject of whatever the voices in her head are chuckling about. Other staff are downright neighborly and some make you think you've interrupted something important in their lives. You get to know who's whom after a bit. Overall, one of my favorite places to go. It could be ten times as far away as Starbucks and I'd still prefer to go here. I took a star off because in the summer it can be downright stifling hot inside and because the smokers that do show up make the patio unusable. Also, the food choices could be better. UPDATE: The snotty barista guy is gone. Good! Everybody else is very, very nice.

I love the concept of Tenn Street Coffee & Book. First a coffee shop and second a used book store. Why not combine two things that go so perfectly together? Well - Tenn Street doesn't quite nail it. The space isn't cozy. It is difficult to look for books because there are tables in front of most of the shelves. It is too ridged in there and not comfortable. The atmosphere isn't conducive to browsing, drinking coffee and catching up with friends. The staff is fabulous and they do have some good books. I am not a fan of Dazbog coffee and I would love to see something local and unique to help with the whole feel of the shop.

Cute place on Tennyson. The back area where they have over-sized chairs and a couch is nice. I was looking for more breakfast options but the have basic pastries. I ordered the sun dried tomato and feta croissant, heated it up in the microwave provided, very good... They carry Dazbog coffee, but the caramel macchiato i ordered wasn't that great, i really wanted a smoothie but they were out of all flavors... in addition they do not accept American express.

I am a huge fan of local coffee shops, the occasional cup of coffee, and mainly good tea!! This place let me down Big-Time!! I was checking out a couple spots in the up and coming neighborhood and spotted this joint and wandered in! So there is an awkward feel here--like people checking you, to see if you are part of the neighborhood or coming from the surrounding parts--I dunno, it just felt a tad weird in here. I ordered the African roobios, which is one of my favorite teas and checked the place out while I was waiting. Perks: Comps with free internet, tons of seating, and loads of books to read and chill out. So my tea was up and I grabbed it to go, took the tea bag out about 3mins later and took a sip---EWW, this was the absolute worst tea I can say I have ever tasted!! I was like old moldy water with a hint of nasty..blahhh. You may have better luck with coffee--but stay away from the tea!

Tenn Street has friendly service and decent coffee and tea. The baked goods look ok but I'd probably choose the nearby bakery or restaurants for treats.

Where to begin? I love the decor. Wood floors, great artwork and a plethora of books. Quiet, but had live music on the night we were there - Thursday. If you are looking for one of the best fudge brownies in Denver - this is the place. The presentation wasn't anything exciting (wrapped in saran wrap), but the taste was out of this world. We ordered peppermint chamomile tea which was fantastic (better than the same flavor at Whole Foods). Definitely will be back!

I'm not so much a coffee drinker. In fact, I bought my first coffee a month ago with hopes that it would wake me up a bit...it just made me sick. So when I hit up Tenn Street Coffee I grab something like the Caramel Apple Cider. Really great stuff right there! My bf gets a mocha. DazBog coffee is served along with a choice of free doggie treats, delectable brownies, breads, sandwiches, fresh fruit and burritos/tamales that are made across the street. I hear they are the best in town. The employees are always super cool, along with the patrons that visit this ideal spot to sit outside with their friendly dogs, check their email on the free computers or catch up on some reading. Love this place on a lazy Sunday.

I can't say I know the first thing about how to drink coffee, but the coffee I got was good enough for me. The scone tasted like it had been sitting around for several hours- which even the best scones are wont to do. I don't know of any other coffee shop in the world that has as many as four computers with free internet access (for paying customers), which is awesome. They also support a low-key music scene, with a family friendly show on Fridays and a couple of shows on Saturdays. Ice water is offered self-serve from a water cooler, and they sell the New York Times. In summary, they do everything a good coffee shop should do.

Caught a cup this weekend, and really felt it was worth one of my random Yelps. Let me say I am Not a big Daz Bog fan, (the roast Tenn ST. brews) but I have always said - if ya can find a good barista - you can get a decent latte out of their espresso. Tenn St. not only pulled a good shot... I asked for a frothy medium latte & the gal did a perfect free pour on the milk. I'm just a snob for a latte that keeps the foam right down to the last sip, not just a rushed froth plop on top! Also the shop really is great to stop into if you need a wifi connection or even an in house computer to use. I haven't gotten to spend time in the book section, but it looks first rate and their snacks are pretty darn good too. I live in the hood, but usually brew at home... but Tenn Street is a good reminder to support your local java joint and good place to hang for a cup .

I ran into this cute coffee house after dropping off the foster kittens for a pair of spays at Planned Pethood Plus. PPP dropoff is 7-9 AM, and I don't usually move before noon without an entire fire squad and their hoses (puns all intended) to roust me from my beauty sleep. Of course, that could be because I stay up until 3 AM Yelping. In any case, I needed a coffee, or I wasn't drivin' home without an accident! It was my barrista's first day on the job, and he was a bit confused about the menu and how to process orders, but still managed to make me a nice java chip frappe with extra whipped cream- nom nom! Too bad I had forgotten how pesky java chip is to drink- I spent half the time imitating a goldfish trying to suck out chip fragments lodged in my straw. The attached bookstore is super-duper cute, with limited but intriguing offerings in a variety of subjects. Big plus: comfy chairs, and you can take your drink in to browse! Also loved the free computer use for paying customers- not just free wifi, but free computers there, for you, to use. The only thing I have to recommend against is the food. I had a bacon breakfast burrito, which was bafflingly bland- I also had to heat it in the microwave myself. Am I the only one who thinks that if I pay almost $4 for scrambled eggs and bacon wrapped in a tortilla, I should at least get it warm? With that minor glitch aside, I loved the place and will be making a habit of stopping in anytime the kitties are getting fixed. As I always say, when it comes to pets, if it ain't broke, fix it anyway! Then have coffee.

  • Marie M.

Ample Seating, free wi fi and decent drinks (disappointed their chai comes from a box instead of a tea bag but good selection of hot teas ... also they will give you extra hot water if you re-use your tea bag :). The porch is a plus and location is awesome. Only downside: closes early on weeknights and some of the food in the case is not so tasty. Go across the street to parisi if you want a pastry.

  • Dillon G.

Decent coffee but they charge for refills, lots of seating but not very comfy, they have pricy snacks but no good food to speak of. I'd give it three stars, but it has a certain charm about it that bumps it up a notch. Also, it's just a few blocks from a nice park that's picnic worthy.

  • Josh C.

Like many other reviewers here on Yelp, I found Tenn Street Coffee to be cute and quaint but not at all what I was looking for in a coffee house. The price is not overwhelming, but the complete lack of preparation for the client was something that will delay me from returning in the future. Breakfast burritos were not headed and provided in the wrapping they originally came in, bagels remained untoasted, and I'm certain we were charged some sort of mark up simply due to the fact that they could accommodate me there/then. Much more interested in a coffee shop with full service, and I don't mean a foot massage or a waiter, but I do mean some place where they at least stick the burrito in the microwave for me.

My girlfriend and I were passing through Denver on the way to Pagosa Springs, and found this place by a random google search. What a good find it was! The staff was super friendly, and the atmosphere was really nice. They also have a great patio. We were so lucky to have found the art district! We came back again on our way back home.

  • Kiyono A.

The guys taking orders were really nice, and the space was alright, but I just wasn't in love with this coffee shop. My roommate, my brother, and I ordered bagels, and it isn't a huge deal, but they have you prepare your food yourself. This means that if anyone else is using the toaster or the microwave, you have to wait. We had a line 3 deep for the toaster, so we ended up not even eating together. Maybe invest in a multi-slot toaster or just toast them for your customers. The coffee wasn't bad, but it also wasn't anything to rave about. I wish I could review higher because the employees were great, but everything else about this spot was lackluster to me. If I was in a jam, I'd probably come back, but there are so many other options in the neighborhood that I'd go elsewhere if I had a choice.
