I was in the area dropping a friend off at the airport and asked some friends of mine in the area for a good place to eat: they suggested this place. I mean, don't get me wrong, the food itself was decently good, and it was certainly an authentic Mexican experience, but for a restaurant that poorly taken care of, they sure as heck charged a lot! For small little Mexican joints like this, I'm used to getting an averagely cheap deal, even in San Francisco where I live. This on the other hand, somehow, was not. I have to say, the food was good, the atmosphere was dive-y, but for the lack of actual restrauntal semblance, not really worth my dollar.

After reading a few good reviews, I finally made it in to this little place! The .99 cent carnita tacos I had were definitely small, but very tasty! (I am still missing the cheese on all of these authentic Mexican tacos I keep trying). Look forward to going back and trying the al pastor!

I've lived within a stone's throw of Tacos Tijuana for almost two years, and never bothered to stop in. A couple nights ago, jonesing for some sour cream and greasy Mexican, I convinced a friend to skip Taco Bell with me and head to TT's instead. He obliged. This cozy little place place is the epitome of a few Yelp cliches. The terms 'hangover cure', 'ghetto fabulous' and 'food poisoning' all come to mind. Since none of the above applied directly to my visit, I'll add one more to the heap: 'Middle of the road'. Based on one visit, there is nothing particularly appealing about Taco's Tijuana, nor is there any major infraction preventing future visits. I ordered a trio of carne asada tacos with a side of beans and rice. Alright, alright...I could not POSSIBLY have picked a more bland order, to be fair. And for what it was (no-frills tacos in a 4" softshell corn tortilla), I have no complaints. Except the inexplicable stench that emitted from my beans...but they tasted fine, and stayed down all night, so that mystery remains unsolved. My amigo, certainly the more adventurous type, opted for a full order of lengua (tongue) tacos, and a nice, cool styrofoam cup of horchata to wash it down. He let me try the lengua, which was very tender and surprisingly juicy. I passed on splitting his cinnamon rice milk, but he reassured me it hit the spot. Having been raised on homecooked Mexican food and spent significant visits in Central/South America, I relied on my friend's palette for the authentic flavor verification: he says it passes the test. Next time I visit, I'll have to step outside my own narrow-ass box and try one of the multitude of more interesting dishes on the menu. Although the food itself was nothing average, I will give the owners bonus points for friendly service, late night hours (4am on weekends!) and having the good taste to boast both Street Fighter II AND Galaga arcade games in their lobby. There isn't much else that gives me just cause to pay them a visit again, but something tells me I'll be doing another review before long... Oh, and regrettably, their tacos were so sparse (meat, cilantro, onion, tortilla--fin.) that my sour cream craving went unsatiated. Is it bad that reviewing a nice mom and pop taco hut has me craving a Pepsico-brand chalupa? I think so. No amount of 4th meal dollar menu items will assuage my white guilt!

The $1 tent tacos on soft corn tortillas are super yummy with a great fresh salsa bar, but my favorite thing here is the plain bean and cheese burrito. It is by far the softest, most pillow-y, gooey, melty, cheesy burrito I have ever eaten. The tortilla was delightfully crisped yet fluffy. I love spicy foods and salsa but this was so perfect as is, I couldn't even add a thing to it. Plain, simple, $2, and gooooooooood.

I went for the Menudo and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't the best I've had but it wasn't far off. The portions are decent bigger then some smaller then others. They serve it with the usual basil, onion, cilantro and they have lime available. For the price you can't beat it as I believe it costs around $5.50 for a bowl.

The food is quite good and pretty authentic (from my white boy perspective), but the interior feels a lot more like a cafeteria than a restaurant. If you're looking just for some quick eats, this place is alright, but if you're looking to really 'dine' keep looking. In the summer they also have an outdoor taco bar which is always fun.

Yay! We found a great taco stop. For some reason we wandered into Tacos Tijuana after driving by the place several times and it was great. Their birria, carnitas, carne asada, and al pastor were very tasty. You can't go wrong with 99 cent tacos (although the tortilla is much smaller than the regular small tortillas - these are extra small). One thing I didn't like was their horchata - I think they make it with 'leche condensada' which I don't like at all. I also thought the 'pickup' process was weird; pickup outside for carnitas and pickup inside for asada, etc...

We went here in the fall and they were still cooking the tacos outside at this point. We got about 5 tacos between the two of us, just thinking we would try them out. The food was okay at best and nothing to write home about. The tacos were pretty small and the meat wasn't all that flavorful. We ate inside because it was a little nippy out. The interior was very run down and not at all appealing. I might have to try this place again since the reviews here seem to be higher, but as of now, this place did not impress me at all.

It's tough when rating restaurants because you don't know if people are looking for ambiance (This place has negative), good service (It would probably be better if my Spanish was good enough to not have ordered french fries in my breakfast burrito), and delicious food (Meh, I've had MUCH better). Sometimes though you just want to know if a place is decent because it's 2am and you want real food and you hate chains and you want a burrito that's so spicy you can FEEL the montezumas revenge racing towards your anus with the powerful fury of Mexican revolution. This is that place. This is that place that white people are scared to go to because they are worried that it's going to be a tripa and menudo burrito and it's going to taste awful, and you'll be made to feel a fool as you stumble around, and maybe for good measure the esses inside steal your pants and make you walk back to your car without your wallet. This isn't that place. It's a quiet place which is busy at ALL times of night. The locals (They are local to this restaurant, likely not this country) are SUPER helpful when you are trying to figure out what the Taco Guy outside is trying to tell you;and you will leave full. It's not SUPER cheap, but it's not expensive. The food's not SUPER good but it's decent, and after 1 am it is DEFINITELY 4 stars, and if you're drunk and live in the neighborhood like I often am and do, then it's five stars because where else can you just FEEL that latin vibe all while basking in the glowing neon of Lakeside amusement park? So in conclusion: Food: 3 stars Ambiance: 0 stars Service: 1 star (5 stars from dudes hanging out in their pickups in the parking lot) After 12am (This place is open until 4am Friday and Saturday! Kick ass!): Food: 4 stars Ambiance:3 stars Servoce: 1 star (10 stars from parking lot dudes) After 12 am and you're drunk: COME HERE. You know you want to.

These tacos are great for the price. They are authentic Mexican tacos, not the Tex Mex kind.

Decent tacos, cheap....certainly not much for ambience but I don't really care about that anyway. Not my favorite, but not bad.

  • Jon S.

OK, there is basically no atmosphere here. And at any moment, really loud tejano/polka style music might start blaring out of the jukebox when no one has touched it. For these reasons, I always get my tacos to go. But what tacos! Yes, these tacos are small. But they are cheap , and they are TASTY! This is one of the few places you can get birria (stewed goat) tacos in town. And the cabeza tacos are probably the best I've had anywhere. I'm quite sure they just throw in whatever part of the head seems best at the moment, but it's always awesome. If you go for the most unusual and authentic offerings here, you won't be disappointed. These tacos are so good I've actually been passing up Tacos Jalisco to go here. And I love Tacos Jalisco. However, since the tacos at Tacos Tijuana are so small, I do find I need to order 5 or 6, instead of the usual 3 or 4. But at 99 cents a pop, that isn't a big deal. A handy tip: The wait staff really seems to open up and become more friendly if gringos make any attempt to throw out even a tiny bit of Spanish. Just saying a simple "hola" and "gracias" will make the girl behind the counter change out her stoic straight face for a smile.

I was lured in by the spit of meat grilling out back and the 99 cent taco sign. I ordered a couple tacos at 530 one night, the pastor was not grilling so I got carne asada, I felt the need to open them up and look for roaches, ate them anyway (I don't know why), then spent 24 hours wondering if I was going to come down with food poisoning (perhaps I'll die). Maybe picking up dinner at 530 meant I got the old meat that had been sitting since lunch time. Maybe the tacos are awesome when the pastor is fresh. But I won't be going back.

I went to Tacos Tijuana on Sunday. I found out they have a new location, which is about a block away from the old one. The new 'building' looks nicer than the old one. The parking lot is small, though. Anyway, I've been coming to Tacos Tijuana since 2009, and it kind of sucks that every time I go, the tortilla is smaller and smaller. I love their tacos, but it really doesn't fill my stomach up. A few years back, I would be full with 3 tacos. This Sunday I ordered 5 and I still was left hungry. Besides that, though, they're still as yummy, but I can't really taste the flavor if I'ma eat the whole taco with one bite. Worth trying it out, though, just know that a couple of their tacos will not fill you up, so you might order something else off of their menu :).

Tacos Tijuana has the best authentic street tacos around hands down. Big bonus is they are open until 4am on the weekends! roots food!!

In my quest to find the best taco places in Denver I was intrigued by this place and not disappointed. These are classic street tacos, they're small, but filled with delicious meats and a simple topping of onions and cilantro. No frills or strange modern twists on tacos here. I decided to create my own taco sampler and got the pastor, cabeza, and carnitas. The pastor was delicious, perhaps just a tad greasy, but still wonderful. Cabeza was tender and something I'd love to order again. Nothing too special about the carnitas, but don't be afraid to order it. Salsa bar was a nice touch. Nothing fancy about the place, but service was friendly and there's lots of seating.

  • Leslie C.

Tacos Tijuana has authentic tacos for very cheap. If you come on Tuesdays or Thursdays, then each taco costs only $.69. I think beef is a little more. I always get the shredded chicken tacos and have not tried anything else from the menu. Service has always been friendly and fast. I bring all of my out of town guests here and highly recommend it for quick, cheap, and delicious tacos! Where else can you sit down and eat for less than $3?

  • Jacqueline S.

I got a bacterial infection in my colon from their chicken, it gave me a high fever, painful body aches and chills. I had to be brought to the E.R. the next day. I had only ate eggs and fruit at home before going there and it was the last meal I ate. I wouldn't be surprised if this place failed a health inspection.

Tacos Tijuana. I was very excited about this place because of the outdoor spit roasting pastor. It was, however, rather disappointing as pastor, but still a decent taco. Just to clarify, tacos al pastor without pineapple... well, it's not tacos al pastor. As I say in my recent blog write up, it's like asking for a PB&J without the peanut butter. A jam sandwich is not the same thing. Here, when I asked for the pineapple (should always come when asking "con todo") they looked at me crazy. Bad sign. To be fair, these tacos get bastardized once you leave Mexico City, so people, in say, Tijuana, might not know an authentic pastor taco any more than they would in Denver. Maybe this explains the pineapple-ness-less. Also the meat was not charred well and sliced way to thick, another point not worth arguing about with an authentic pastor taco. It has to be paper thin and crispy. That being said, it was an OK taco of marinated pork, and there are many things right with that. Anyway, the steak alambre was excellent. Gooey and full of goodness. Also the tongue tacos were good, and there are some good salsas at the salsa bar. I would go back, but not for pastor.

Their not bland their Mexican tacos (tortilla, meat, onion, cliantro, salsa) just like it's suppose to be! I get the sopes al pastor their mouth watering if not orgasmic. Fried thick tortilla basically with edges to keep the good stuff where it belongs. beans, meat, lettuce, tomato, cojita cheese I add lime, and the avocado salsa!!! Woo hoo and all for 8 bucks with a side of beans and rice. Follow it with a styrofoam glass of horchata real Mexican not that crap from taco bell that could clean a transmission I crave this place just like I crave taco trucks mmmmm delicious.

After getting out of school yesterday my husband and I were really craving mexican, but didn't want to take forever at a sit down restaurant. So when we drove past Tacos Tijuana, we decided why not! I read a couple of reviews on here before, so I had a general idea of what was good. I got the 3 chorizo taco special, and my husband got the 3 pork taco special (forgive me I do not remember the "spanish" name of the dish) They were both great! Not too small in size, not too big. Just the right amount, and perfect for the price. My biggest suprize was that the chorizo wasn't greasy at all, which is very common with chorizo. They came on corn tortillas, that I do not think were homemade, even still, they were great. But both of our tacos were very flavorful, and have convinced us to return sometime in the future.

Tacos are my second favorite food behind cheeseburgers. In fact I spend long labourious hours deep in my underground lair trying to genetically splice the two foods and thus take over the world. But until then you're all safe. Tacos Tijuana is located right by Lakeside in what I can only assume used to be a Long John Silver's or Skippers or some such thing. It's a really crappy building inside and out, dirty, run down, somewhat sketchy looking, I could go on and on I suppose but you get the idea. But holy crap man, you can't eat a building. I stopped because in the parking lot was a dude cooking food under a tent. I'm a sucker for this. Turns out all the Pastor tacos are grilled in this manner on the weekends. And let me tell you, they were fricking awesome. The marinade was wonderfully spicy and from what I could tell the fellow had about forty pork steaks up on a gyros spinner and was cutting them off and throwing them on the grill. I truly believe that, in a steel cage match, these tacos would be smashing chairs over other tacos like El Taco De Mexico or even my coveted La Abeja. I went back a week later, on a week night. The Pastor tacos were being made inside. They were still quite good, but not good enough to bring tears to my eyes. But there was Musica Romantica on the jukebox and a ton of Mexican families all eating together and laughing and the kids were running amok. Awesome.

Okay, learned my lesson, order anything but the tacos! This is the first place since I moved to Colorado that knows how to make a freaking chile relleno. It wasn't deep fried or made with phyllo dough or any of the many other ridiculous things Mexican places out here want to do to a very simple and delicious dish. Ah, good stuff! My friends raved about the Hangover Bur... I mean Breakfast Burrito and Chicken Burrito. I don't think I'll ever actually eat in this "restaurant" but it's great for takeout.

Explanation of 4 Stars: 1. Tacos al Pastor 2. Coke in bottles, made with real sugar, not corn syrup 3. Get your order To Go - it tastes better when you get home 4. $.99 Tacos I love this place for exactly what it is: perfect late night food after 18 beers and 18 holes of golf. No, I never eat there, and no, I never order anything other than Tacos al Pastor from the guy outside. I don't have to be drunk to eat there, but it tastes so good after a few beers.

.69 cent tacos on Tuesday and Thursday! How can you beat that? Plus the salsa bar is great. Inside can be messy at times but doesn't really bother me.

  • Shaun S.

So we just got 8 tacos with a bottle of water for under $8. On Tues and Thurs they have $0.55 Carnitas, Pastor, and Pollo tacos. I also ordered one Lengua and one Carbon. Were they the best street tacos in the Metro? Probably not. Were they the best $0.55 tacos? Sure. When I am looking for an inexpensive meal on a Tues/Thurs, I will return.

    (3)
  • Andy R.

Okay for the most part. 65 cent tacos each Tuesday that are really good. The horchata could use a little work though, as it seems to be a bit on the over sweetened side.

    (4)
  • Erica A.

Hole in the wall place. Friendly staff and yummy tacos. $.99 Tuesday tacos. Super friendly waitstaff. Have some yummy horchata (sp) with that spicy marinated beef taco. The tongue is very tender and tastey. It's my kids favorite. My kids like this place A LOT.

    (5)
  • John P.

The dollar tacos are small. I ate 5 and feel good. But Damn are they good. I don't think you could go wrong here. If you are the kind of person who is intimidated by hole-on-the-wall joints... well, this place is the reason why I love restaurants like this.

Tacos Tijuana is a place I only tend to hit late nite. As I remember, the 99cent street-like tacos can be pretty tasty. And they have Miss Pac Man. Or is it Ms.?

  • Dan K.

I'd initally only tried this post 1 am. The other day I finally grew a pair and headed in there to pick up a few tacos for dinner and am I glad that I did. The tacos are so much better than anything you'd get at taco bell or Chipotle and on top of that they are cheap! How much did I like it? I ate it 3 nights in a row. Definitley my new favorite taco place!

  • john W.

OMG. Taco Tuesday's or thursday's are awesome. .55/taco Everyone of them was great, plus i couldn't resist and had some non-sale tacos. Delicious. Oh and the Nacho Supreme, is huge!! The picture should have a small baby or hand or something in it for scale. That alone woulda been a meal it's definitely a family run looking place, and if you're in need of tijauna style ceramic crap, you can get it as well. But don't let the looks fool ya. AWESOME tacos!

Can't beat the price on Tuesday and Thursday! Can't believe I've lived a block away for this long without eating here... The staff are nice. The restaurant isn't frilly or fancy.

been going here for street tacos lately, so far i'm digging it. Tacos are $0.99 each, and they're $0.55 each on Tuesdays / Thursdays. They have all the meats you'd expect; al pastor, lengua, cabeza, pollo... Fans of Taco Bell will think these tacos are small, but they're very typical street tacos. I get a few tacos (my fave are al pastor) and a side of rice & beans ($2 total) and a Mexican Coke (Coke in the bottle). pretty good little lunch for around $6. There are pictures of the different plates (about 30 i think) on the wall so that helps. most of the menu is in spanish but the cashiers speak english as well. the building is intimidating but very cozy and comfy once you're inside. not much seating, about 4/5 booths.

Now what the hell happened to my sunglasses... they're on my head? Flock me! I could have sworn I had written a review for these guys at some point along the taco way but I guess I didn't.... is it on my head? err in my head? Doubt it! Well anyway I stopped by there this afternoon after coming from lunch in Aurora with some of the ol' yelp crew and I guess I hadn't eaten enough lettuce to satiate my hunger? Nah, I'm lying. I just wanted a farewell fling with this little nasty northsider. She's supposedly going away soon and I had to see her one more time. Vaya con dios TT. veintiuno.

15MAR2014 They are in a "new" building. The old building was partially demolished as is now a Seven-11. They are now in the building that housed Mercedes Restaurant. Enjoyed 2 tacos for lunch. Perfect examples of street tacos. 05MAR2011 Don't be fooled by the building and miss Tacos Tijuana. The building was, long ago, obviously some sort of fish joint. It has the look of fake New England-style clam shack. But, now it is "no hablo Inglés" at this Mexican restaurant. The atmosphere is very plain, but I did enjoy the Norteño music spilling forth from the jukebox. My Torta Cubana was very tasty. Pork cutlet, hot dog and ham. A huge sandwich for $5.50. That and the diet Coke (¡no free refills!) was a satisfying lunch. I am not "a fan", but I might become one. I need more visits to Tacos Tijuana.

Ummm ...I came here with a friend of mine, she grubbed on some tacos.. said they were pretty good .. but nothing special.. I ordered the chile relleno plate. Gross...it was slimey and tasted old... didn't even finish it. The rice and beans were good... I probably will not be back

Little yummies for my tummy. So good. I had al pastor and carnitas. Both were what they should be. The salsa bar had a few options, and what I slopped on my tacos, I really liked. Little yummies are also good for the wallet too-you can't get anything better for 99 cents.

Neglect all those talking trash on Tacos Tijuanas. If you're looking for legitimate Mexicali cuisine, then look no further. The tacos are on the smaller side, but for $0.99, and $0.50 every Tuesday, it's beyond a deal.

Papusas were good, tortas not. The cornmeal cakes were filled with gooey cheese. Add meat to make even tastier. The bread used for the tortas tasted old and dry and even if they were fresh, probably not great because just not a good bread for tortas. The fillings were subpar as well, lacking in flavor.

99 cent tacos all day every day, served with a baggie of their face melting salsas. GO, JUST GO.

I come in for the 99 cent carne asada tacos they offer. The corn tortilla is a lot smaller than most tacos you see and they beef used is a bit fatty (just pick it out). Apparently 99 cents doesn't go a long way and pretty soon you're left still hungry. The building itself is old and run down, and the bathroom leaves a lot to the imagination. Come by when it's warmer when they cook outside and enjoy your tacos at a picnic table.

More the local spot for the homesick Latino population than the gringos..If you speak the language and like cane-sugar Cokes in glass bottles, give it a whirl. The salsa bar is volcanically hot, stay away.

I wrote my review two years ago and it needs an update.. I loved the old cooks, don't get me wrong, but it was inconsistent in taste. The new ladies that work there are amazing. The taste is consistently good, if not delicious. Each time I go, it gets better and better. Very few of them speak English, but it makes people watching entertaining. The pupusas are great, the enchiladas are AMAZING, basically, everything on the menu has improved. The price on the carne asada tacos was raised to $1.25, but the taste is much better than before. I've seen google reviews that say this is dirty and smelly, but it's not that gross. They fired the chick that doesn't clean(and she always got our order wrong) and the smell, it's just an old building with old pipes. Best Mexican food in Denver, hands down.

Middle of the road. My bolillo was a bit stale and dry which took away form the flavor of the torta. The horchata was by far the best I've had in awhile. Points on for friendly service and great prices. The tacos were average to good. While there are better options in town, worth a stop if your in the area and looking for authentic antojitos.

I finally felt like I was back in San Diego! Super dope $1 street tacos with a killer selection of meats. Ask for the tortilla chips. Salsa bar gets a thumbs up too!

My girlfriend and I ventured out for taco Tuesday last night. Seems the rush ends around 6:45pm, we got there at 6:30. By the time we left just after 7 the parking lot was pretty much empty. The big sign by the road says tacos are 55 cents, but they've increased the price to 65 cents. No biggie for me. 8 tacos and 2 drinks with tax was $17. You can get pastor (marinated pork), pollo (chicken) or carnitas for the sale price. The carnitas were our favorite! The pastor was delicious. The pollo was very tender but not as flavorful. Not much seating inside. Two picnic benches outside. Very friendly service, great drink selection (Jarritos!), food was made to order and worth the short wait.

Who doesn't love street tacos? And who doesn't love paying under a buck for tacos? Especially when they are so good. And finally, who doesn't love a salsa bar where you can get all the spiciness you need to taco that taco to the next level? No one I know, that's for sure. Thrown in Mexican coke and this place is pretty much all you need to have a satisfying meal for under $5 any day of the week.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
