We got a chicken burrito, enchilada, and tamale, with chicken nachos. The beans were tasteless, rice gummy, the chile inedible, and the enchilada had American cheese in it. The nachos were chips with a can of cheap, liquid nacho cheese sauce to dump on it. The worst Mexican food we have ever had, and we have both eaten at Casa Bonita. Go to Gordita's right down Federal if you want good, authentic Mexican for just a bit more $.

Don't expect anything fancy. It's basically a Mexican diner. Good food (tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc) cheap. I stop here whenever I'm in the neighborhood, because it's consistently good and not expensive.

Great food! Low price! Great service! I have never had a bad meal at this Taco House!

  • Robin M.

My son's order varies, but the only thing I have eaten here for the last 30 years is the plate of three tostadas -- one each of tasty queso, decent refried beans, and good guacamole -- with three cheese enchiladas. They always ask, "Do you want onions on the enchiladas?" Why, yes, I do, thank you. it's a tasty meal. The only thing that's changed is that the price has crept upwards, but only to keep up with inflation. Divey and homey and old but not a bad place, especially if you're in the mood for it. You can order the three tostadas without the enchiladas if you want, but it's called something weird so you may not recognize it. Guacamole there is surprisingly good.

If you look at the reviews I give, I am SO not stingy with the stars. If a place is awesome, I'll say so... this place? Not. Even. Close. I am dumbfounded how this place is even allowed to operate. We ate here a month or so ago while in Denver, and the food is as nasty as food can possible be this side of a trash can. Everything tastes like it came out of a can, nothing is fresh, and the enchiladas (or so they were called) were so nuked, they stuck to the plate. This is as far away from Mexican food as it gets. Casa Bonita has more authentic food. The taco "meat" was pure mush, the "chili" was, I don't even KNOW what the hell it was. We stopped in because of the sign in the window for .75 cent tacos, but that was only if you took them to go; we decided to stay and try it, and it was a waste of money. I can't believe ANYone would leave a positive review of this place, and it makes me wonder if they're connected to it somehow, or maybe they just smoked so much crack it killed their taste buds. Don't know, don't care. My review for this place is just STAY AWAY. GROSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

My first time here! The service was great! The food was not that great with little or no real taste. I had the cheese enchilada plate that included beans and rice. Just very bland tasting.

I've been coming to this place since I was very little. The food is SUPER cheap. It is it's own special brand of Mexican food. It's like a greasy spoon Mexican food place. I almost always order the same thing here since I was little: Three cheese enchiladas and smothered bean burrito with green chilli.

As much as people will deny their love for this place, I just can't. Cheap, fast food. Friendly people. The bathroom is awkward, but so what! Go "potty" before you go to the Taco House! The rest is great!

I wish yelp would let me give less than one star. As someone who grew up close to Mexico, I can assure you this IS NOT Mexican food. It is an insult to Mexican culture to call this slop Mexican food. It is an insult to food to call this food. Tasteless, flavorless, low quality, dog-food-grade nastiness. I took two bites. The first I thought to myself "this is not what I'm used to, but maybe it is from a different part of Mexico". The second bite i thought "nope! it's just crappy, crappy food". Taco house is to Mexican food as Chef Boyardee (in the can) is to Italian food. Any one who says the food is decent and the price is reasonable has poor tastebuds and is paying too much since Taco Bell is far superior. This place was offensive to all five of my senses.

I have to be completely honest I was a little leery about coming here but one of my friends come here all the time and she is always posting pics of her food and I used to come here 30 years ago and I used to love it so we decided to come they have exactly the same menu I was so excited to see that I ordered tosadas with enchiladas it was absolutely delicious I must say the restaurant was very very clean

I really don't like writing negative reviews, but the food here is abysmal. The server was nice, and the prices are very cheap. The bill was under 10$, but on Federal you can get actual good food for the same price point. I had a tamale, and a beef taco,my friend had the bean and beef burrito on special. I took a bite of each and stopped. How does a place stay in business for 50 years with food that bad? How can you call yourself the Taco House when all you have is crappy slimy beef tacos, and the chicken ones are not even on the menu. A place called taco house should have at the minimum 5 kinds of tacos. Salsa was edible, but the chips were super thick. Do yourself a favor and get taco bell instead-that seems gourmet compared to this.

Don't let the looks fool you. This place prepares everything fresh daily--real cheese, homemade salsa, and fresh avocados in the guacamole. The owner takes pride in his perfect health department scores. This place has its own version of Mexican food. Their enchiladas sauce is unique. My favorite is the #4. Give it a try.

Our Dad used to treat us here in the 60s - different owners now but still the same fresh food at a premium price. This is very Americanized Mexican food - but still tasty and terrific on the wallet - want to treat the family without breaking the bank? Here is the place. Staff is always friendly and food is delivered fast. You can tell the beans and meat are fresh made - not refrigerated.

Can be hard to find good food and good service in one place unless you pay a heavy price. This taco house had both along with great prices. And if you have room for dessert. The Apple enchiladas are really good.

Every time I visit Denver I always tell myself I need to go to the Taco House. I would go to the old building when I was a kid, and I remembered the food being great!! I finally made it to the taco house when I went to Denver back in aug. the new building is very run down compared to the old building, but I wanted to see if the food was still good, so I went in and sat down the waitress was very nice and answered any question I had. She made sure our drink never ran dry and the food arrived fast and hot It smelled so good and looked even better, but the size of the meal looked smaller to me or it looks smaller because I am bigger then I was back in the day when I was 10-13 years old. Any way the food tasted the same, and I even got a plate to go for later. I am planning another visit to Denver in about a month, and I am going there as soon as I arrive in Denver.. I can't wait.

Great food for the money. We do not go that often, but our waitress always remember what we like and and what we drink.

This place has been a family favorite for generations! Such a perfect hole in the wall! I prefer getting the food Togo (its pretty small inside).. they are also super fast and orders are always perfect. The cheese enchiladas are my favorite! I love the enchiladas sauce plain but jazz it up with the green salsa.. its perfection! Being a vegetarian its hard to find beans not made with lard.. so I love when I can come here.. super clean tasty beans with no animal product! Try a sloppy burrada or the bean tostadas ( again perfect with the green salsa).. as a kid I would get the sloppy tacos, which are great! Besides those people say the reg tacos, chicken and rice aren't so great..

I tried Taco House today for lunch, simply looking for a good mexican restaurant with super cheap tacos. I found just that! I think the most expensive thing on the menu as a combo for $5.25, that included 2 enchilada's, beans, rice, and a drink! That's stupid cheap! I ordered a beef taco ($0.99) and a green chile and cheese smothered chicken burrito (about 4 bucks). The taco was great, and really good size for the money. The burrito on the other hand...well, it was decent size, but one of the worst burritos I have ever had. Trust me, I'm not much of a complainer, but when I could only stomach about 3 bites of the diced chicken filling, you know it's BAD! The chips and salsa were not all that impressive either. Tasted like Tostito's and Pace Picante. Eck! This was a place I tried on a whim. Not going to stop my random dining ways, but did make me appreciate all the good stuff out there. If you go, stick with the name sake. Taco's on the cheap!

I am giving Taco House 4 stars simply based on their (green) salsa. I have been to literally tons of Mexican restaurants in the Denver metro area and this Taco House has the very best salsa in Denver!!! If you stop in make sure you ask for the "green salsa", which is actually red, but made with "green" chillies. I always stop in just to pick up a quart....

My friends and I hit up the Taco House as part of our Taco Crawl last Thursday. I'm so glad that we visited the Taco House as we were super impressed my the food and service. Don't let the bright Taco House sign outside scare you as this is one of the most welcoming restaurants I have ever been to. I was lucky enough to meet Chef Greg aka Chef Rico who has been working there for 35 of the 50 years that it has been opened. He is one of the most passionate chefs I have ever met. As he wakes up every morning at 5am to prepare the beans and shreds the cheese himself with his own hands. The menu here is not complex, tacos come with either chicken or beef. We tried both. The chicken tacos were lovely as the chicken meat is shredded with care. We ordered a plate of 3 chicken tacos and then a sampler plate which inculded a chile con queso tostada, a beef taco and their homemade guac. Um no joke, this guacamole is AMAZING. Obviously, you can thank Chef Rico for this creamy concotion. The chef was so excited to see the 3 of chow down his ffod that he treated us to one his unique dessert creations. A Mexican style Apple Pie which is warm apples (not to sweet) wrapped in a tortilla sprinkled with some cinammon and a touch of buttter. Better than any apple pie I have ever tasted. Truly a unique masterpiece. So we get the bill and the 3 of us almost fell out of the booth, our meal which fed 3 girls who love to eat and a Dr. Pepper for $10...? Simply amazing and I would recommend this place for lunch and dinner anyday. Thanks Chef Rico for a wonderful experience. I wish there were more chefs out there that are half as passionate as you are. Yu and your staff made our dining experience truly memorable.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
