Did I order for a family!!! However, even the quality pairs up to the quantity you will get. The General Tso and pan fried noodle dishes were some of the best I have had with certainly an attention to those savory chinese flavors we crave. Even during off peak times this place gets crowded so be prepared.

Some of the absolute best Chinese food I've had in a long time. The egg drop soup was amazing!

Best Chinese in Denver! My wife and I often order one of there dinner specials to go with soup and the pupu platter; it is more than enough for two. We usually use this for take out and it's always ready and waiting on us.

We drive across town for the hot and sour soup. He loves the chicken fried rice. I really like the curry. This is our favorite Chinese food take out.

My SIL brought me here for a quick bite while out getting last minute Christmas gifts. In what looks like a slightly dodgy strip mall next to a liquor store, I was wondering what we might be in for. What we got was a wonderful lunch! This was some of the best Hot and Sour soup I have ever had. The heat and the flavor were perfect compliments of one another. For my entree, I had the Kung Pao Triple Delight, which was also absolutely delicious. The sauce was perfect - a little heat and a lot of flavor. The service was terrific as well, attentive but not intrusive. This place is worth the trip!

Best Chinese food I've ever had in my life! I recommend getting the Sesame Shrimp Dinner Special with the Pupu Platter and Egg Drop Soup. You get a great amount of food for a great price =]

Wonderful! The hot and sour soup has medicinal qualities! I live across town and will make the drive to this place!

I'm so sad to have to update my review but something had changed and I'm no longer Szechuans biggest fan. Last 2 meals were very different and I was ill both times. Everything was super greasy and just didn't taste the same and most of the familiar staff was not there. I'm thinking maybe they have changed chefs or owners. I'm pretty sad that i can no longer can rave about this place :(

We always order from here for our work party in celebration of Chinese New Year, and they always get our orders correct! I like that their food taste the same dine in or take out. Believe me I've been to my share of Chinese buffet restaurants where the dine in was fine but the take out tasted like left over from the previous night! I recommend Szechuan's pot stickers as they're huge and meaty, with thick skins, everything that reminds me of the northern Chinese style, and the dipping sauce is delicious too. I also tell my American friends to try the Scallion Pancakes and so far, everybody raved about it! Lastly, this may or may not be on the menu but if you like curry and you like tofu, by all means, ask for their Curry Tofu! I think it's more yummy than the other tofu dishes with meat. The staff is "hen ke qi", meaning very polite. Most of them are bilingual, they smile, and they offered to take my boxes of take out food out to my car for me. Kind of sweet don't you think?

I have been searching high and low for authentic szechuan food. The kind that burns your tongue and is jam packed with flavor, REAL szechuan. Unfortunately, this place doesn't serve it. By the name, I had thought I finally found my place but when I tried to order the Mapo Tofu I asked if they made it the traditional way amd my server said it's the Amercanized version. I almost started crying, I was so disappointed. So, instead I ordered there Hunan chicken, which was by far the best version I've had in Denver. Food is amazing, best Chinese food I've had in CO, but it is not real Szechuan.

  • Michael P.

Never a disappointment. The food is above average. I have coming here for years and there is a noticeable drop off in service. The newer staff are not as friendly and may be spread too thin. I'll be a regular, I just hope the staff gets better!

We have been here a couple of times & have always enjoyed the great food. One of the best in town.

I really enjoy the food at this little "hole in the wall" place hidden in a shoppette off 6th Ave and Garrison. I've been coming here since I moved nearby 7 years ago, and the food has never disappointed. My favorite dish is the beef with garlic sauce - they get a little bit of char on the beef so it doesn't have that leathery quality you get at other Chinese places. I also really like their potstickers, hot and sour soup, double fried noodles, crabcheese wantons, and lo mein. I have never had or seen anything here that didn't look great, and the portions are huge, so you always get to take home leftovers. Hot tea is served upon arrival, which is nice, and we have gotten complimentary plum wine on occasion as well. They have really cheap and good cocktails too.

Tried so many different places. Only two Chinese food restaurants make the grade. This one--Nothing compares. Especially the fried dumplings and egg drop soup. The other one was torn down by a wal-mart. So this is it baby!

Best Chinese in Denver. Food is amazing, service was great. Nice sized restaurant. Well def bee back.

  • Devon O.

Absolutely delicious. The place itself doesn't provide the best lighting for those with poor eyesight, but the food makes up for it! I suggest either their happy family (the sauce itself is to die for!) Or the honey shrimp (absolutely huge shrimp!) The staff is always extremely friendly and happy to accomadate any special requests you might have concerning your order. DEFINITELY a hidden diamond of Denver!

Always a good meal!! Best Chinese in lakewood. Crispy duck is my favor! Half duck bone in, with a duck sauce to die for. The service is good never a empty water glass and are plates were taken away just after we where done. They fill up fast on Friday night but service remained good. I will always go back!

I am a creature if habit but I went outside of my usual. I tried the triple garlic delight. To my surprise it was actually spicy without me having to emphasize that I wanted it spicy. You can definitely taste the garlic. It was a freat combination of meats s and veggies with a "delightful" sauce.

The adventure for quality Chinese food continues. The good news is, this restaurant does Americanized Chinese food, and they do it well. I would have loved to find a good authentic restaurant here after reading all the reviews, but if you live in America, expect American things. They go a little heavy on the garlic on some of the dishes, especially the vegetable dishes, and some of the chicken dishes verge on soupy rather than saucy. Otherwise, the tofus, the pork dishes, and the eggplants are all good and have hit the spot for my chinese food cravings.

  • Steve M.

Rock solid and dependable food every time for the last twenty years I've eaten there. I've had better "authentic" and some interesting new school joints in California but I always come back for pan fried dumplings and pork lo mein. Good portions good value.

So far so good :) hot and sour soup is great. Sesame chicken is delish. My boyfriend loves the szechuan beef. I will be back.

For what this is, it is great. This is a strip mall restaurant, not the least bit fancy. The food is very tasty, portions generous and prices reasonable. My husband and I loved it and will be back. The Pu-Pu platter includes a yummy egg roll, delicious crab cheese wonton (better than PF Changs), tender beef on a skewer and tasty fried shrimp. The baby shrimp on the skewer was a miss and the chicken wing was just okay. My husband loved his hot and sour soup and his entree of Szechuan Beef with fried rice. I loved my Chef's Special Kung Pao Triple Delight and the beef, shrimp and chicken were perfect in the dish and the peanuts were fresh with a great crunch. My husband and I both prefer are food very spicy and next time we will let our server know to notch up the heat. The service was friendly and attentive but did not hover. We are planning on returning within the week.

The absolute best authentic Chinese restaurant in Denver. You will not be disappointed! From huge portions and affordable pricing to fast and accommodating service, Szechuan Restaurant is the total package. My girlfriend and I can't get enough of this place, and it's by far one of the best values in food. Their cashew chicken and sesame shrimp are incredible!

  • Alberto S.

The best Chinese restaurant in Lakewood. Simple, genuine, great service and the best dishes. It could possibly be one of the best in Denver. The portions are ridiculous and there's always something new to try. I always come back for more. My reco, go for the House Delicacies with wine sauce and crab wontons. Try the lemon chicken and the spicy soup is worth the trip from San Antonio.

Tucked away hole in the wall with fab food. I'll go back!

Don't be fooled by the strip mall, this place is legit. Mongolian beef for lunch was straight out of the wok and one of the best I've had, the hot and sour soup is very good. Not expensive and fast service. Great lunch spot

  • D H.

The food is absolutely delicious! I'm a vegetarian, and many of their dishes can be substituted with tofu, only the tofu is cooked so crisp and well that you don't even realize you're eating tofu. After our first visit, we couldn't wait to return!

I love this restaurant! I grew up eating here as a child and still come regularly twenty+ years later. We do not have any great Chinese restaurants in our neighborhood, so we make the trek over to Lakewood at least once or twice a month. If you go expecting typical Americanized Chinese food, you will probably enjoy this place since they execute on that kind of menu very well. Their soups are so very good, especially the wonton and the hot and sour. The soups are reason enough to visit and are almost always my favorite part of the meal. The main courses are also reliably good. Some favorites include the eggplant dish, mu shu chicken, shrimp lo mein, and General Tso's chicken. I do wish they would use a slightly higher quality of chicken or remove more of the fatty pieces, which in addition to the health reasons is one reason why I do not regularly order their fried chicken options (like orange chicken, for example). Their appetizers, especially the dumplings, are good, as well. This restaurant delivers reliable, yummy, affordable Americanized Chinese food and their staff is generally friendly (but often rushed). They do quite a business, so expect to wait for a table on a busy weekend night. I wish they would bring back the almond cookies they used to serve instead of the dry horrible fortune cookies they offer now, but that is a tiny complaint.

Rating: 5.0/5.0 It is rare that I leave a restaurant and immediately wonder when I will return again. Szechuan is one of those places - I honestly enjoyed my meal so much that I wanted to return for lunch the next day! No, it is not authentic. Yes, it is Americanized Chinese food. However, it is delicious, well-prepared Americanized Chinese food! M'lady and I went on a Tuesday night around 7:00pm. There were only a handful of tables occupied, but staff were all very friendly and attentive. No wait for a table, water and hot tea was brought to the table immediately (Lipton black tea but whatever, it was exactly what we wanted on a cold night). Our server was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. My hot and sour soup was thick and tasty, even had MEAT in it! Huzzah! M'lady's wonton soup was piping hot and hearty. The pu-pu platter that comes with the Dinner option ($15.99 per person) was almost a meal unto itself, and everything tasted fresh and properly prepared. Fried items were crisp, and it was obvious cooked in fresh oil at the proper temperature. My Sesame Chicken entree was one of the best I have had in the Denver metroplex. To me, this is the dish that sets the standard at most Americanized Chinese places, and this example did not disappoint. Perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, just the right amount of tart and sour and sweet. M'lady tried the boneless duck with an amazing hoisin sauce accompaniment. Tender and tasty - and a really ample portion. We both had plenty of food to take home for lunch the next day. Mine did not make it to the morning - midnight munchies! I really enjoyed eating at Szechuan, and I am sure we will be back to delve into some more authentic fare in the near future.

I recently went to Szechuan with a group of ~10 people. The service was great and the food was even better! This was the best General Tso's chicken I have ever had. I will definitely be back!

Probably one of the best spots I've ever eaten for Chinese food. Standard order for me is the steamed dumplings (very generous portion) and the Beef Lo Mein (minus the mushrooms). They are beyond consistent with the quality of food and I find myself craving it often. Highly recommend you give them a try!

Not the best Chinese food that I have ever had, but it is good enough if you are in the area. Don't let the exterior scare you away. The interior is much better and the staff was pleasant.

  • Nicole S.

By far the best Chinese food I've ever had. Savory hot and sour soup, crispy crab wantons, and expertly sauteed eggplant and mushrooms in a spicy garlic sauce. Also, we couldn't have asked for better service. Complimentary green tea, frequent water refills, and to-go boxes without even having to ask. A great place not just to grab a bite to eat, but to have an experience.

Szechuan is one of the best Chinese Restaurants in Denver. Never fails.

    (5)
  • Ryan H.

They have really great Szechuan style food here. One of my favorite places on the west side of the Denver metro. Also dinning in is probably the best. You get complimentary hot tea! Also with the dinners you get an egg roll and crab ragoon and a soup! No extra charge for their great fried rice either. However, I wish the egg drop soup didn't have tofu in it! Sometimes the tofu is too much too! If you like tofu, you'll love their egg drop.

So I dragged another friend over here for lunch today (is twice in one week considered excessive?), just so I could try the pan-fried dumplings. Oh, they're delicious all right, but has anyone addressed the sheer SIZE of these mo' fo's? Okay, imagine your papa toe. Now imagine your papa toe getting stomped on by an elephant and swelling up to 4 times its normal size. THAT'S how big these dumplings are! And you get 8 of them for like $6.99! WHAT?!?!

Little hole in the wall restaurant with fantastic food, fantastic service, and fantastic ambiance. We have been back several times in the 6 months we've lived in Lakewood and I've been happy with all 3 every time. I won't be getting chinese anywhere else!

This is now our "Go-to" for Chinese food. We have always enjoyed the food and the service. The hot spicy chicken is a favorite of mine. Plenty of seating so we've never had to wait for a table.

  • Elayne G.

Great family style, big portions, good food at great prices. And once you come and become a regular the staff is almost like family. Like won ton soup, hot and sour. Shrimp w/veggies or in garlic sauce or the wine sauce. Their lo mein is the best I've ever had. Not mushy noodles with no other veggies. They put in large pieces of cabbage, mushrooms, green onion, bean sprouts, and the chicken gets a browned taste.

  • Mylee K.

Among the best Americanized Chinese food in Denver. All ingredients are as fresh as we have tasted in any restaurant anywhere. My husband is partial to their Lo Meins and the Beef and Broccoli. I love their tofu dishes...all of them. Finally, a restaurant that knows how to marinate, slice and serve tofu! Degrees of spiciness are accurate. The sauces are incredible! Slightly oily. But otherwise great. And the service is graceful, informed, prompt and unobtrusive. We used to live closer and SO miss that. But, we do take all friends and family to the restaurant at least once. Don't miss!

I dined at Szechuan the afternoon of April 12, 2014. I ordered crab-cheese wontons and then had their lunch special in which I ate their egg drop soup but was too full to eat my main meal, chicken fried rice. I had it boxed and went home and put it right in the fridge. The next day I microwaved my left overs, consumed them, and by 7pm on April 13, 2014 I was in the midst of the worse food poisoning episode that I have ever been through. A trip to the ER and $6,394.00 later I was back to normal but left with "a terrible taste in my mouth". I do not recommend dining here unless you'd like to lose weight the unhealthy way.

BEST Hot and Sour Soup ever! I have been to many Chinese restaurants all over, no one beats their soup! My other favorites are their Lo Mein and Sesame Scallops! I have been coming years and years. Always great service. This place is a Lakewood treasure!!

  • Kun L.

I have to say this Chinese resturant not for Chinese. How does Mapo tofu become sweet? Curry chicken is sweet. There is no other flavor other than sweet! Not recommend at all!

  • Jenny C.

I've been here many times over the years. If I'm dining in, I love getting the pu-pu (?) platter. It's a fun name and I like putting food over the little grill thing that comes with it. I've had to be the 'go-fer' to get lunch orders from here more times than I can count. The employees make it quick and easy, and sometimes they'll throw in a soup for sympathy and thanks. I recently tried their Honey Walnut shrimp (my new favorite dish) and it was amazing. They use the bigger shrimp, instead of the tiny ones at other places. I think I will be eating here more often until my Chinese food phase has passed. Just wanted to add, they use MSG. If you're sensitive to it, beware!

As a Chinese person I went there tonight with my mother. We were looking for authentic Szechuan cuisine from China and thought this place might offer it, especially considering the amount of positive reviews. We got there and looked through the menu. There were no authentic Szechuan dishes from China. Even inquiring with the waitress did not help clarify. I asked if they had a separate Chinese menu as some establishments do to cater to the American and Chinese crowds. They did not. The best analogy I have to the name of this restaurant would be if an American restaurant opened in China and said the cuisine was Cajun. In actuality the only relation to Cajun would be that some of the dishes are spicy and Cajun food is often spicy (See the Szechuan correlation here?). The dishes are all standard American Chinese cuisine: orange chicken, moo-goo pans, etc. These dishes don't actually exist in China and if they do, they do not taste anything like their American counterparts. I did not try the food as we went elsewhere. I do believe the food is awesome if I wanted to have standard American Chinese food. But do not come here if you're looking for water boiled beef or fish in spicy oil, for numb and spicy Szechuan appetizers, or things spicy enough to make you cry, sweat, and blow your nose on multiple tissues. This is not it.

The restaurant was very busy so initially I was very excited to try the food from such a popular place (Friday night). We had takeout of the scallion pancakes, the pan fried dumplings, soup and the garlic pork. The potstickers were not very good? The soup and pancakes were OK, but the main dish was terrible. We ate what we could and threw the rest out. I'm not sure why they are this popular with such poor tasting food.

This place came highly recommended by some fellow Yelpers, so on my way up for an afternoon of snowshoeing, I stopped in and gave it a try. The hot and sour soup is great. Probably the best I've had. The steamed dumplings are so big and yummy. The dipping sauce is awesome. Ginger, garlic, red pepper flakes. Yum. And the Sesame Chicken is so good. Crispy and just enough sweet. Reminded me a lot of the great chinese delivery place that I would order from when I lived in NYC. Good memories. The hostess is so friendly and funny. Our server was a little quiet, but I know it was more of a language barrier than an attitude thing. Will definitely be back for more of those dumplings!

2012 Review #127: I have wanted to try Szechuan for several years, and finally had the opportunity. Unfortunately, all the hype didn't pay off. We came at 5:15 on a Sunday, and sat right away. They took our order very hurriedly within 5 minutes, which was a good sign, but then the waiting began. We waited about 15 minutes for our dumplings to arrive. We ordered them fried and I was just not impressed. These are supposed to be the best in Denver? Have you people never been to Federal? They were huge, about the size of a fist, and literally impossible to eat without the filling completely separating from the wonton skin. They tasted pretty average to me and were difficult to eat. We then waited 45 minutes for our 3 main dishes. In the meantime, a family of 7 who came in 20 minutes after us, received their food 10-15 minutes before we did. It finally arrived, staggered, and we started eating. My kung pao vegetables were pretty good, though not spicy enough for me. My mother in law's curry was pretty tasty, although again not spicy even though we were asked if spicy was ok. The best dish was my husband's sesame chicken. I liked it very much, and he did too, though he said it isn't his favorite out of our other local options. By the time we left, about 6-8 parties had come in, eaten, paid and left, just in our half of the restaurant. It took us an hour and forty-five minutes to eat arguably one of the fastest prepared meals available. It seemed pretty clear that our order got lost or misplaced; I saw the big tables around us receive some of the same dishes we ordered, so I wonder if ours got pushed back to send out the big tickets. We didn't get much apology either. Although the food was pretty good, I just can't justify spending the length of an Adam Sandler movie just trying to eat what was essentially take-out quality food.

By far the best place in town for hot and sour soup! Everything else is great as well. The staff always seem a little rushed but the food is so amazing I don't even care. I wish they delivered!

  • Sara D.

Yummy! Best Chinese food in Lakewood for sure! Wonton soup and sesame shrimp is the best! I can say though that sometimes the chicken can be a little dry and the shrimp fried rice or vegetable fried rice can have a little too much onion.

  • Crys A.

Service wasn't very warm or attentive. We both had lunch specials: he ordered the twice cooked pork with egg drop soup and I had the lemon chicken with won ton soup. My soup was good but my lemon chicken was almost inedible, it was so dry and hard. Seemed like it was sitting around for awhile before being served --- lame. His egg drop soup seemed like a potential ad for MSG but his pork was decent, certainly way better than my chicken. He's been here a lot over the years and claims it's changed quite a bit; food used to be better, along with the service. I cannot comment as this was my only time there, but I wasn't very impressed. Best thing about the meal were the egg rolls, which were crispy and tasty. Egg rolls do not a good Chinese restaurant make, however.

    (2)
  • Kris K.

Seriously? All these positive reviews... So much salt in EVERYTHING! I mean, super high levels of extra sodium in all 7 dishes at my table. I'm surprised they didn't salt the tea. In a word: Inedible.

I really like this place, although some sauces are too sweet for us (one star off, though it should really be only a half). Now that we know this, we ask them not to bring their dipping sauce for their lovely big fried dumplings but instead to bring us vinegar and crushed chile in oil so we can mix our own with a touch of soy sauce. With the pressed duck, I'm asking for hoisin sauce from now on instead of the big bowl of sweet brown sauce they make. Putting that aside, one cannot fault the cheerful, prompt, and accurate service or the pleasant decor. Wonton and hot-and-sour soup are stellar. Sizzling scallops with beef are fantastic, as is the crispy duck (which comes with hoisin sauce, so no need to modify that order). We look forward to many more delicious meals here. The restaurant is in a strip mall just east of Garrison on the service road on the south side of Sixth Avenue.

Great service with attentive waitresses who would hardly let you take two swallows before they topped it off. Clean and good patronage by several regulars; they know what you like. Hot n sour was near the best I've had. Steamed vegs w/tofu was fresh. Asked for curry sauce on the side, and they brought a BOWL of it. Good flavor. Brown rice.

I have been to Szechuan a few times and each time have never left disappointed. My thing about people and their ragging on "pseudo-Chinese / American-Chinese"... well, duh. What do you expect? It's DENVER. Colorado, even, not China Town San Fran or NYC. I haven't had "proper" Chinese food since I spent the holidays with my grandparents when I was but a wee young girl. What's more, if this place DID try and unload the authentic cuisine, then every other person would be crying about fish eyeballs and other worldly delicacies. That being said, for what it is, AMERICAN-Chinese food, it is quite good. They have a great lunch menu, both by variety and price standards. I had the Kung Pao Tofu and for $6.50 received a whopping plateful of the stuff (including soup and an eggroll that I couldn't eat [word to the wisevegetarian: ask to sub a veggie eggroll at lunch]). It didn't seem overly greasy or sickly sweet with sauce. The fried rice left something to be desired, but as I usually ask for brown rice (forgot this time), I know it's a problem that can be fixed next time I'm in the area. The service is the kind of all-business-from-the-family you'd expect from a place like this: friendly no more than it has to be, but damned if you don't get your soup at lunch within 2 minutes after placing your order. Plus hot tea is served at no additional cost, during lunch and dinner. I once had a nifty little cocktail that wasn't noteworthy beyond it being blue. A blue cocktail in a Chinese restaurant... seemed as though the only thing missing from it was a little umbrella. I think it was reasonably priced and I would probably go that route again (something fruity/pineapple-y) if the mood struck. Overall, despite its location being somewhat inaccessible (unless you already know where you're going), the price paid for service and products rendered makes Szechuan a worthy stop.

In my humble opinion (can you say that on Yelp? is that ironic?), this place is a cut above. Recommended by a friend, I made a point of checking it out when I was in the neighborhood, and it's a great place. As recorded by others, the people are very friendly. I enjoyed all the dishes I've tried in a few visits (mostly takeout) and will work my way through more of the menu. The dumplings are great, and the portion is huge. Enjoyed the "Two Kinds Mead" (sic) last time, with a bit of a smokey chili sauce. You can tell they use good ingredients, and I'll be back.

I moved to Colorado from New Jersey at the end of 1992 and had been seeking good Chinese food for years - sure, I've eaten at the Asian Center (Alameda and Federal area) and dealt with menus that are so poorly made you can't tell what it is until it comes out, and I've eaten some unique food, but so far, few places in the Denver area come even close to the quality eats that I've gotten at the Szechuan restaurant. I was led there in 1996 by friends, and the family has been going there when we have the hankering for Chinese food ever since. This isn't the place you go to where you expect sweet and gooey - any crappy Chinese restaurant can do that. What these folks do with food is some kind of arcane magical thing where they start the same ingredients as everyone else, but then somehow yummier things come out of it. Maybe it's their oil, or their heat, or perhaps they use just better quality salt that most folks - I have no idea. All I know is, I've tried and succeeded to cook some Chinese food dishes, however, the folks running this place know how to cook, and they have the ancient Chinese secrets of how to do it right. So first thing, if you come here for lunch, just order the sweet and sour chicken - I mean, it's the most basic food staple at any Chinese restaurant right? Well, let me tell you this - every sweet and source Chinese chicken dish you've had was done WRONG. These guys somehow make it crunchier, not doughy, and with the right amount of sweet and tart to make it awesome!! The beef and broc is awesome too - the sauce can drag any cowboy by their teeth and leave them licking the dish at the end - and they'll eat their veggies too. Note that they don't cut the meat so thin that it's barely there, but it's no so thick that you need more than a lite bite to get through it. The lo mein is hand made on site - no bought noodles here - is always awesome. The sesame tofu is crunchy and sweet, but done in ways that nobody else can duplicate - note that this is probably the sweetest dish in the place too. Kids love this. On the appetizer menu they have scallion pancakes too - and these are something that not all restaurants make - and these folks do a great job with them - tasty, crunchy, and the sauce they come with is also excellent - it's a dark ginger sauce, but the dark is simply made from soy sauce, but rather has element of sweet as well as tart, and is a perfect mix. This place has a specials board on the way into the restaurant - read it. If it says mango then you should order mango - mango beef, mango chicken, mango shrimp - these guys could make mango phone book and I'd eat it! When Mango is in season it makes for one of the best sweet and sour dishes I've ever had - however, when they do mango beef, the sauce has a little sweet, but it's also carrying their signature szechwan sauce with it, and the combination is delectable. If you're an East coaster like me, or used to be, and you need your Chinese food fix, this is the place to hit. The only thing they don't have is the noodles and duck sauce on the tables, but hey, they don't need that junk here to blow your socks off.

This used to be my favorite Chinese place, but their service seems to have dipped in quality recently. Sad face. Sometimes I think they're so busy that they've just gotten lazy about it...or maybe they're so busy that they don't have to work that hard to get return customers. The food is most excellent, after all. I just think good service should count for something. Complacent attitudes and rude reach overs by servers should not be acceptable. And whatever happened to prebusing?? Come on! Take the dirty plates and don't reach across me forcing me to actually move to avoid being struck by your arm so you can refill someone else's water. Okay, thanks. Rant over. But seriously, even if the service blows lately, they do have a good history and the food is worth it....for now.

Great service and food. Has the sesame chicken, chicken lo mein and mango chicken on the recommendation of the person who took my order. Even with a busy take out line I was in and out in under 5 minutes. It's easy to find as long as you stay on the frontage road and not 6th. If you get on 6th you will drive right past.

Awful. Awful. Awful. I stopped there to get lunch for my wife and me. I got her Sesame Beef. The beef was dry and tough. My wife wouldn't eat it. Then we went to the soup. The egg drop soup was boring and didn't taste much like egg drop soup. Had a lot of tofu in it. Stirke 2. Then, we went to the egg roll. Not good. On the good side, ourt dogs enjoyed lunch leftovers.

My family moved down to Lakewood about two years ago, and sadly we have been traveling back to Arvada to get palatable Chinese food. There's a couple spots pretty close to us, but we have found them to be very lackluster, greasy and run-of-the-mill. So after seeing tons of positive Yelper reviews I figured we should try it out. Results are that it is super awesome, Lo Mein was some of the best I ever had, and I love me some Lo Mein The Sweet and Sour Chicken was really a shock, not greasy or soggy and to my elation, wasn't a corn starch infused sticky sauce. The only down point was that we didn't really like the egg rolls. weren't bad at all, just after having a preference on your egg rolls when you get one that isn't how you like them you ....well you don't like them. Glad we found this gem. Can't wait to dine in.

Brent N. had a hankering for Chinese food on Saturday and I needed to break my Yom Kippur fast so we went went to the usual Chinese spot. A year and a half later after my initial review and I still love this place! The food is super yummy. Their dumplings are perfectly pan fried, their dishes are delish, they have girly drinks if you are thus inclined (like B), AND to top it all off the staff is super friendly...they get to know their customers and are always happy to see them. B has has a special dish that's not on the menu that he gets every time, and he doesn't even have to order it now...they just know. How's that for great service?! As I said before, I don't even really like Chinese food (except Dim Sum), but I LOVE theirs, crave it even!

Does Szechuan Restaurant have the best Chinese in Denver? Let's see....it definitely has the best dumplings. Eight delicious pork-filled wontons the size of your knuckles, made fresh and served with a savory and sweet soy/ginger sauce. One of the best bites of food I've ever had. And how about service? Not like many Chinese restaurants whose servers almost treat you with contempt rather than gratitude. If you're a regular at Szechuan, they recognize you and say things like "You sure love our sweet and sour shrimp, huh?" And you get your appetizers when you think you should and the main course right when you're finishing off your last dumping. And the water glass is always full, and the tea and cookies are always free. And the quality of service is maintained whether there are two or 10 people with you. And the food? Filling and delicious. Some of the most generous portions of anyplace in Denver. That $9 for the shrimp lo-mein is like paying for dinner and lunch the next day. The vegetables and meat always taste fresh and the sauces are savory and full-flavored and never leave me with an MSG headache. The location? Yeah, not the most obvious, but super convenient right off the highway exit. And it holds true to the maxim that sometimes the best things are in the most inconspicuous packages. Maybe it's because I am in a haze from having just eaten some of their delicious food tonight, but I truly think this place has the best Chinese food in town. And the people that work here are so nice and do their best to please. They are truly deserving of the success this restaurant has had over the years.

I will admit right up front that my Chinese food literacy is lacking. Until my late 30's I swore I didn't even like the stuff. Szechuan is my wife's favorite and after years of her bullying me into going against my will, I have developed the taste. It has, right or wrong, become the standard by which I compare other Chinese restaurants. I do think that they are heavy on the MSG (at least I think that's what causes my insanely unquenchable thirst after eating there). But the flavors are great. The Lo Mein is awesome, and I love me some Egg Foo Yong. My wife swears the hot and sour soup is the best ever, but I'm partial to their eggdrop.

Being an urban dweller and recently relocating to the burbs (oh, the horror!) I was skeptical about finding good food within pedaling distance of my new spread. All the real restaurants with good food are in the city, right? WRONG! I couldn't believe it when I "discovered" this restaurant. I immediately raved about it to my family who had been telling me to burbs are where it's at. They casually said, "Oh yeah, that place is the best Chinese in the Denver area" playing it off like I had just announced that Prince William got married several months too late. I had to swallow my pride on that one - it almost makes up for the suck of traffic that chokes up 6th on the way home. Thankfully, I can veer off at my exit and head straight for heavenly moo shu! I'm such a huge fan of customer service and have to say that hands down, this is the friendliest place I've ever eaten. After just two visits, the owner (I'm assuming) knows my daughter by name and always jokes with her and spoils her with dinner mints.

Wow.... I won't EVER eat here. Ever. I have ordered food from here to go before. I've been rather disappointed with the flavor in general and to be honest felt a little bit sick after eating it. I didn't think too much of it.. I just assumed that it was your dime a dozen mediocre 1.99 a scoop kind of chinese restaurant. I called the other day to ask some questions as a group of my friends were ordering to go for lunch. I wanted to know if they could tell me the ingredients they used in the sauce of one of their vegetarian dishes. The woman told me there was CHICKEN STOCK in a vegetarian dish!? I asked her if I had heard her right because the dish was listed under the 'Vegetables' section of their menu. She actually said to me "most vegetarian dont mind little bit of chicken stock in the sauce because is not meat, just sauce' I told her that I very much minded having chicken anything in my food because I dont eat any kind of animal product, not even milk or eggs. She told me that If I were going to be that picky I should just cook for myself at home. Nice.... Definitely WONT EVER go here. They also use MSG in almost everything. The food that I had here before I was aware that they used chicken stock in the vegetarian dishes - really was not anything special at all and was honestly... kind of gross - not just because it had chicken stock, but because it was low quality. Oh and the friends that wound up ordering from here had their soup lids smashed in - they did a terrible job packing the food up to go - so the food leaked everywhere.

I really think this place is top notch for Chinese food. I'm always a little cautious, especially because Chinese restaurants have a repuation for not scoring the highest on Health Department scorecards. At Szechuan, the employees genuinely cared, the food was delicious and fresh, and the portions were huge! I will return here and probably not go to any other Chinese restaurants in the area again.

I used to rave about this place, but to be honest, it's no nearly as special as it used to be. The food tastes pretty good, but the portion sizes have been reduced, it seems. Also, they now charge extra for things that used to be part of the choices. Brown rice and Wonton soup are now an additional charge. The service is still pretty good, but I'm just not as wowed as I was in the past. With the surge of good Thai, Vietnamese and other Asian food options in the area, I have many other excellent options to consider now. There's no shortage of outstanding, less expensive lunch options in this part of the city.

Hokay, the steamed dumplings are worth the drive and my new rave fave is the Sizzling Shrimp. Oh. My. Gosh. If you like spicy, ask for hot Szechuan oil on the side. Wish it had a better wine list, but other than that, nom nom nom. I've looked for a good Chinese place in Denver for years and finally found it. Caveat: The joint jumps on a Friday night. They packed four of us into a two-top booth and THAT was interesting...

This is one of our favorite restaurants to pick up an order. The people that run this place are some of the nicest people. They are very friendly and courteous, even when they are at their busiest. I recommend dining-in, or take-out. The items I personally recommend are any type of lo-mein, hot & sour soup, sesame chicken. Any of your basic americanized Chinese staples are great. I just need to learn to venture around the menu more and try different things.

After moving back to Denver, my friends got tired of my whining about Denver's lack of good, affordable, late-night Chinese restaurants. There are evenings when you NEED pan-fried dumplings, pork lo-mein, and Szechuan chicken at 1am. Szechuan Chinese Restaurant came highly recommended by a friend who used to live in the SF Bay Area. The restaurant delivers on quality and affordability, but they stubbornly refuse to stay open later than 10pm on weekends. I won't rehash what the other reviewers have said except to say that their pan fried dumplings are as good as everyone says. A lot of the menu items lack any description, but the servers are happy to answer any questions. My partner is allergic to mushrooms, and the staff is great about letting us know if a dish could send him to the emergency room. They have great Tiki-kitch cocktails (Scorpion, Stinger, Mai-Tai, etc...) that are affordable and pack a decent punch. I feel selfish complaining that they close at 9:30 on weeknights and 10 on weekends because so many other places in Denver roll up their carpets at 8:30pm. Not to mention that most of Lakewood shuts down hours before Szechuan does. But there are the occasional late evenings when I want nothing more than to sit down to a plate plied high with their fried dumplings.

Tasty, high quality Chinese food. They greeted me nicely at the door. Sat me quickly. Took my order right away and food was brought out fast. Filled my water quickly. Great service! Good choice of regular Chinese entrées and some special dishes. Daily specials and drink specials.

Food was good. They don't have honey chicken which I thought was odd because it is a Chinese place. The service was a little lacking. The bus boy did a better job than the server. Hopefully he'll move up. We'll probably do take out next time.

Ing. Great lunch deals, friendly staff, and easily worth any drive as it's easily in the top 5 Asian restaurants in the area. I had out-of-town friends take carryout to a sick friend and they ALL raved about the food! For a shoppette, the atmosphere is better than I expected, too. Aaaaaaand now I'm craving. PWNED!

I joined Yelp just now because I felt so compelled to write this review! What an awesome experience, and that was just for take out! I just moved into the Belmar neighborhood and had one of those nights last night with a craving for Chinese so badly nothing else would do. I actually got on Yelp to see if there was anything close by with good reviews. I couldn't find an online menu so I got in the car and drove down the street. It's tucked back in the corner of the strip mall, so good thing I kept driving to find it. When I walked in, there was the little 5-foot-tall owner lady everyone talks about. She provided me with a chair and hot tea while I looked over the menu! My order came pretty quickly, and while I waited I sat and talked to a very pleasant hostess about how Ashton and Demi had been in not too long ago! They must be doing something right if they've heard about it! I had ordered a cup of hot and sour soup along with my entree, and the owner handed me my order and told me she gave me the large one instead of the small one, just because! When I got home I couldn't believe it...I expected a bowl maybe twice the size...it was probably 4 times the size! And the best hot and sour soup I have ever had. I also ordered the Shrimp with Hot Garlic sauce, and it was fantastic. The shrimp and vegetables seemed so fresh and cooked just perfectly. I have a thing with mushy mushrooms, but they were seared to perfection and one of my favorite parts of the dish. The sauce had a great flavor. I ordered it medium hot and it was right on. I cannot wait to go back and keep trying new dishes, especially the dumplings everyone raves about. I am SO impressed with their service and food quality.

I grew up just a few blocks away from this diamond in the rough.. It has had birthday parties, first dates, break up dates, ditch days from school, sick day cravings.. So I may be a little bit biased. However. I truly enjoy this place. Yes, the location leaves a bit to be desired.. But considering it's right off of 6th Ave, I guess it's not THAT bad. Always friendly service, big portions, reliable favorites, reasonable prices. What more could you want? Hot and sour soup is one of my top 10 favorites. I am a soup fan, and a hot and sour soup fan, and this is one of the best versions of that. Crab meat cream cheese wontons are just how I like them--crispy and delicious. Common favorites in the past have been chicken lo mein (ginormous proportions), kung pao chicken (I like to get it a little more than regular spicy, mm), sweet and sour shrimp, and broccoli & beef. Haven't tried the dumplings, but after reading all of these reviews, now I guess I hafta! Moral of the story: good for groups, individuals, families, take out (There's a really cool metaphysical store a few doors down where you can peruse while you wait for your order to come up), good prices, good service, plenty of parking.. Good times :)

My family has been going here for as long as I can remember and it never disappoints. The staple for us is the hot & sour soup: it has the right mixture of spice with sour, good blend of vegetables to proteins and very comforting on a cold day. The sesame chicken is fantastic, nice and crunchy but never greasy. You really can't go wrong with any of the food here and the service is always courteous and fast. We now live in South Denver, but if we have a craving for Chinese food, we always make time for the drive to Szechuan.

If it were 1956, then I would be wearing pearls, have a baby on my hip, and I would be giving Szechuan five stars, but it is 2011, and when I see Szechuan, I expect big flavors and bold spice. Here, they serve up respectable American Chinese dishes, and yes, American Chinese is a distinct cuisine. It isn't just a Chinese food served in America. The restaurant is definitely an unexpected find tucked away in the corner of a nondescript strip mall. The inside is warm and cozy, and we were greeted promptly and warmly. However, our server was a teeny bit abrupt. Her brusque nature made my hubbie afraid to ask her for chili sauce, and when she saw him ask someone else, she marched over to the table and demanded, "May I help you?" Just a little scary, but she was efficient. We ordered from the lunch special menu. I went with a tofu in hot garlic sauce after confirming there were no water chestnuts or baby corn, and my husband got a triple delight, which he requested extra spicy. The lunch special came with soup, and we both got hot and sour. The soup was good, but spiced heavily with white pepper, not my favorite, and it was pretty thick. Now, I have eaten a good bit of Chinese food, and I have never seen dishes come out so dark. Both the tofu and the triple delight were a dark, dark brown, and I thought perhaps the color was indicative of a rich flavor. However, the taste ended up being sweet, but not much else. I detected very little garlic. The spice level was less than mild. Even my husband's "extra spicy" was mild at best. The egg roll was homemade and solid, which leads me to believe the dumplings are probably great as well. However, we didn't try the dumplings. The food was good, but not exciting Chinese. Oh, and some water chestnuts did appear in our dishes! Two of my favorite things were the option to get brown rice and their hot tea. The hot tea they serve reminds me of the hot tea I drank in Chinese restaurants when I was a child growing up in small town Georgia. Black with a sweetness. We used to pour packets of sugar into the pot, and I distinctly remember being told by a Chinese proprietor that we shouldn't add the sugar. He was right. Sipping on that tea made me a bit sentimental. And, drinking it with an almond cookie was a bonus treat as well. So, it is possible that perhaps I don't have a true appreciation for American Chinese cuisine, but I think if you are a true lover of Chinese, you may be a bit disappointed if you go out of your way thinking you are going to have a Szechuan experience.

Good American Chinese food, HUGE portions, but well prepared (not just big chunks of veggies in chunky sauce)..... I was impressed by the tenderness of the meats and freshness of the veggies, good sauces also. It's not JJ's and doesn't try to be, it doesn't have an exotic menu but they do a good job with what they serve.

Hands down the best chinese restaurant in Lakewood. It says Denver, but I'm pretty damn sure its Lakewood. Anyways, the hot and sour soup is delicious, I could eat just that and be satisfied as a meal. I ordered Mongolian beef which is usually mediocre at other places and it really stood out here, the food wasn't overly greasy or soaked in sauce and you could really taste the onions in the mongolian beef. Highly recommended, my whole family loves this place.

I was a little nervous when we pulled up to the place. My friends and I all shared the same sentiment when we drove into the parking lot of a strip mall and saw this place sandwiched in between the Dollar Store and liquor mart: "are you effing kidding me?" And we were ready to hurt our friend's friend, who'd recommended the place and insisted we eat here on NYE. Never judge a book by its cover, right? The food was pretty good (frankly, not a big fan of Chinese), but the service is what really impressed me. Our hostess and waitress (I believe her name was Lin) were incredibly friendly, prompt and attentive. What really stood out was how our waitress took the time to tell me which dishes had meat (I'd informed her I was a vegetarian; we were sharing pupu platters and apps) every time she brought something out. The portions are huge & the rates are incredibly reasonable. For $16, I had 2 beers, shared in a pupu platter, had a bowl of egg drop soup, AND an entree. AND we had soooo much left over. Definitely worth trying out -- don't let the location scare you off!

My husband and I have been dining here every since Jason Sheehan's rave review a couple years ago. The main reason to try this place? FRIED DUMPLINGS. So delicious! Crispy outside, with hot and juicy pork inside. Yum! You can order them steamed if you like, but they are the best fried. The actual dumpling, and the order, is huge....for only around $5.00. My husband and I always end up taking 3 or 4 home. They won the Best of Westword Fried Dumplings in 2006 and 2007. This year they won Best American Chinese Restaurant. Here are a few other reasons that I love this place: 1. Great Service, and food comes out quick 2. Lunch specials are such a great deal, for tons of food! 3. Free hot tea when you dine in 4. Egg drop soup 5. I love their egg rolls! No onions! Of if they're in there, you can't taste them. 6. Hot 'n Spicy Chicken: breaded chicken in a spicy sauce with veggies. So good! 7. Lo Mein. Delicious! 8. Fried Rice is very good 9. Free almond cookies for dessert 10. Leftovers galore! We were stuffed and had enough food leftover for 2 more meals, each! Last time we were there the owner asked my husband and I to switch tables to a smaller one, because they had a big group walk in. We had no problem doing so, of course, and she handed my husband a bag of almond cookies on our way out as a token of her appreciation!

I'll risk crowding this place further by helping get the word out. You can actually come most times of the day and be seated immediately, but during peak dinner times, i.e. non-school nights it draws a huge crowd. Fast and friendly service and the hot & sour soup is the finest thing I've had at any Chinese restaurant. The perfect dish for any meal during the winter months. Nondescript location but plenty of parking and I trust whatever you decide on from their menu you'll find a winner. Strong cocktails too!

I'd say the food here is pretty average. Their prices are pretty average. But the service is what makes it. I've never sat around wondering when the next course will come, because before I have time to think about it, it's there! They use real crab meat which is a plus for me, coming from the east coast. I hate immitation crab meat. Their drinks are pretty delicious, although a bit weak. Their Egg Foo Young is definitely not for the experienced, it leaves something to be desired. But the rest of their food - Szechuan Beef especially - is pretty good. I like that they put tofu in their egg drop soup, too.

Everytime I walk into this place, I look for the owner, a 5' tall Chinese woman, who usually stands near the front register. Her friendly demeanor and warm greetings welcome you to the restaurant. Being a regular, she knows my name and always takes time to talk to me, chit chatting about work, my GF, life......Do I know her name?? NO. Why?? Because I call her "Momma", and she calls me "Son". Many times during lunch, other customers over hear the two of us greeting each other as "Momma and Son" that they mistake us for being family. "Momma" goes out of her way to pay attention and listen to her patrons. Service for me never seems lacking, but I am more tolerant since the restaurant always seems full to me, so the servers cover more tables then they should. But I go there for the food. As long as the servers are nice, which they are, I can accept delays. Going at lunch time, or Fri/Sat., expect some delays, but even when I had to wait, the always brought me out a free egg roll or a few chicken wings to tide me over. Now to the food: Though I yet to try every single item on the menu, I look forward to doing so for as long as the place stays open. :-). Here I list some of my favs: The egg drop soup sports a nice mild broth, intermingled with egg whites, tofu, and green peas. Not too salty or bland, but a perfect balance of flavor allowing you to add whatever condiments you want to enhance taste. I opt for black pepper, with a dash of soy sauce. The hot and sour soup holds the perfect amount of spiciness and sourness for me. Just enough to tickle the taste buds. Finding the perfect mix of sour and spicy can prove difficult, but they found a recipe that works. Once again, it allows patrons to adjust according to personal likes. I again choose black pepper, and a bit of the spicy chili to, in the words of Emeril, kick it up a notch. For an appetizer, I go with the Salt and Pepper Spicy chicken wings. This dish comes garnished with diced onions and julienned cabbage. The wings come in ample sizes, with a 50/50 drums to wings distribution. They taste more like nice fried chicken dish, with a hint of salt and pepper. I am suspecting a dry rub before the fryer, and hence you see no sauce unlike a Buffalo wing order. For main courses, I enjoy the General Tso's chicken, the Beef Basil dish, and the lo mein combination. All three dishes offer a wide variety for a variety of pallates. The GTC tends to lean a bit on the sweet side, mixed in with large sections of peppers for a spicy bite. Deep fried first, then sauteed again with the sauce and veggies. Yum. The Beef Basil hints at a Thai influence, however, the use of the fresh basil comes across distinctly chinese. The dish juggles together soy sauce, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, cauliflower, and large cut sections of jalapeno peppers with large tender sections of beef. The basil only adds to the flavor, but does not overwhelm. A surprising dish, and a constant staple when I eat there. The lo mein uses nice thick noodles, which I LOVE. The cook it up in a wok, add the necessary condiments soy sauce, meat of choice, and your veggies, and this offers a filing and tasty carbo loaded meal. Greasy, of course, but it is Chinese food. I noticed dumplings in previous yelp reviews. I guess I know what I need to order next. :-)

After transplanting from NYC and it's plethora of great counter and takeout chinese food, it took me a full three years of hits and (mostly) misses in Denver until I found Szechuan. Now my wife and I don't go anywhere else. You really have to have an inside tip to even find this place - it's well-tucked in the elbow of a highway-side strip mall, sandwiched between a dollar store and a cabinet shop. Nonetheless, we've never been there when it's anything less than 90% full. The service is excellent, and it's amazing the memory these waitresses have. We go in every three or four months, and they always recognize us. As mentioned on other reviews, the dumplings are the star, as my wife insists we get a second order to take home. These aren't the petite, Japenese-style gyoza that I grew up on; rather, these chinese monsters are meaty and hearty. I like them pan-fried. Main dishes are not the treacly sweet American versions of Chinese classics. They are deeply flavored, some spicy, with lots of veggies. We never come home disappointed, and neither will you.

I have been on the search for good Chinese food in this city since I can remember!!! I've finally found it!! So far only three places (this being one of them) have exceptional food!! The hot & sour soup is great, the egg drop awesome, dumplings OMG!!! And the garlic sauce is fabulous!! I've tried tons of food here and have never been disappointed, and for those like me who like it spicy they'll change the spice intensity at your request. Only down part is no delivery!!

Wow... only 3 reviews so far? This place is super popular so I thought this page would be swimming with critical babble. Food: The meal starts off with your choice of soup; I ordered the wonton ( yelp.com/biz_photos/W3dN… ). The broth is fairly light and contains one deliciously large wonton. As for the entrees, they offer a broad variety of mango dishes: mango chicken, mango beef, mango mango... you name it. Unfortunately, I bucked the trend and made the mistake of trying too many fried foods. The pancake appetizer ( yelp.com/biz_photos/W3dN… ) was very thick and chewy and didn't have much inside of it except for some scallions. The soy dipping sauce was pretty good, but it couldn't make up for the lack of ingredients inside the fried shell. I guess my disappointment stemmed from my expecting something soft like a Korean pancake. I also tried the potstickers ( yelp.com/biz_photos/W3dN… ) which had great tasting pork filling, but, again, had a tooth smashing thickness to the wrapping. The upside of the appetizers is the quantity of food. However, the amount of chewing you have to endure really curbs your appetite. I did get to taste my co-worker's mango meat dish. That was infinitely better than the fried stuff. If you come here, go mango. They also have a good selection of exotic drinks for cheap. This might help you forget your stupidity if you order all appetizers. Service: Fast even though the place was packed during lunch on a Friday. Atmosphere: I don't really know what a Szechuan restaurant is supposed to look like, but this looked more like a Thai restaurant than a Chinese one from the interior. Seems like a good place to have a party, especially with the bar in the back. Synopsis: I'll have to come back and try this place again. Don't get the appetizers.

Excellent food! It was our fist visit in the Denver area and was looking for a chinese restaurant to eat. This place had the highest ratings and decided to try it. And it was true. Service was good and the food was really EXCELLENT!

Oh, what would I do without you, Szechuan? Szechuan is a little Chinese joint tucked away in a tiny strip mall on 6th and Garrison. Basically, it's in one of the worst possible locations you could imagine for a restaurant. But once you get beyond the location, you realize why this place is almost always packed. The food, service and prices are both great. My favorite things on the menu are their hot and sour soup, dumplings, and sesame tofu. In fact, they have a decent selection of vegetarian dishes for you non-meat eaters out there. Also, they make some killer mango chicken when mangoes are in season. Also, the customer service is excellent. The wait staff never forgets a face and they know how to turn a table around quickly. I've also received some free soup for being a loyal customer, so I am a little biased when it comes to service, hahaha. And to top it all off, their lunch menu is just absurdly cheap for how much good food you get. Hell, I get out of Szechuan cheaper than I do at Chipotle for lunch. Basically, if you're a fan of American styled Chinese food, you owe it to yourself to try out Szechuan.

Best Chinese place I've been to in Denver. Chinese food is generally sweeter and less fresh than Thai food, which is much better in my opinion. But some nights simply demand Chinese Take Out. Anyway, Szechuan delivered with friendly staff and delicious food (when it comes to Chinese). We decided to check it out after reading positive reviews here, and it was totally worth it. We'll be going back.

If you get a hankering for typical takeout fare in a sit-down setting, head for Szechuan Chinese. The food is, with a few exceptions, nothing you can't get delivered- but the atmosphere is nice for a quick, casual lunch, and there's something much more satisfying about paying for food in a restaurant and relaxing with someone refilling your drinks and serving you than paying the same price to eat it out of little cardboard boxes at home. I recommend stopping by for lunch; lunch specials are between $5 and $7 and include a soup, egg roll, fried rice, entre, and a fortune cookie to finish it all off. I got the Mongolian Beef, and it was a little too sweet but quite nice. Don't bite the peppers, but the rest of the dish was only mildly spicy. Portions are huge- I took more than half of my meal home. The wonton soup was delicious, but I have a known weakness for wonton soup of all shapes and sizes. The most surprising items offered are a few French-style dessert selections, which are not made in house, but ordered out from a supplier. If you don't mind knowing that it wasn't made just for you, try one of the four varieties of desserts on the dessert menu- I had a chocolate creation that really satisfied a serious sugar craving. Overall, nothing super special, but a nice cozy Chinese restaurant with friendly service, yummy food, and a convenient location if you work near 6th Avenue.

I've been eating here for 20 years and it's by far the best Chinese I've ever had. Once, a year or two ago, they forgot to include rice in a takeout order, but they were very apologetic & hooked us up the next time we went. That was the only flaw or inconsistency in all those years. As for the authenticity, well, I've never been to China. But in my opinion, it's of much better quality than all the Chinese food I ate in South East Asia (authentic doesn't always mean better). Some of my favorite items: Hunan beef, cashew chicken, kung pow triple delight, pan fried dumplings, warsue duck...I'd suggest going for the lunch menu for starters. The atmosphere is cozy as well. Easily among my top five favorite places to eat.

First off let me just say that the crux of this review stems over an order I placed around 6:30 P.M. on a Saturday night. I called in a pick-up order. They told me that the wait time was an hour, which was acceptable on a Saturday night in the middle of a dinner rush. So I patiently waited and strolled in about five minutes before an hour had gone by only to wait another fifteen minutes. As I left they said, we put and extra soup in there for you, as if that would console my waiting guests. I paid the order signing it with no tip of course since it was pickup and I had to drive over to get it, but while paying bills on Sunday only to check my bank account to find that they added five more dollars. Seriously as if people will not notice!!! The worst of all of it is the food was semi-warm and a little mushy like it had been sitting under a heat lamp. The only plus is that after re-heating it, this place does know how to whip up some fried American-Chinese food. This restaurant according to my parents has been around for about twenty years so much of their clientele is simply because they have been in business so long and is the only decent Chinese between Golden and west Lakewood. I will also down grade them for not moving beyond their twenty year patrons and offering some authentic Chinese to some of us who have broadened our horizons and have enjoyed authentic Chinese food. For this you will still have to make the trip down to south Federal!

I went because of the reviews. The food was flavorful and portion sizes are generous. They must have been short handed tonight, though, because service was slow.

There are as many Chinese Restaurants in Denver as there are sunny days. Well, not that many, but there seem to be a lot. Most serve the standard fare with an occasional decent dish. Szechuan is different. Yes, it has a similar menu that almost looks photocopied from every other Chinese Restaurant in town, but that is where the similarities end. Szechuan, despite it's common-sounding name, serves quality food with exceptional portions. Trust this ravenous eater, you will get a few days worth of meals out of one entree. The dishes themselves are of quality. I've tried many dishes and each one seemed to be prepared with care. The Sesame Chicken (of the crispy variety) is an American staple, but here they do it well. It is sweet, yet crispy, as I believe it should be. A new dish I have chosen (or did it choose me?), was the curried beef. Yes, I know curry at first seems Indian, at least to my ethnocentric, western-raised mind, but it is delectably Chinese. I could go on about each dish, but this is a very good, standard-fare, Chinese Restaurant which I am so infatuated with that it caused me to create an account on Yelp. On to more reviews!

This is MCM's favorite hometown Chinese restaurant. We had lunch there on a recent trip and I have to say it was pretty darn good for not being in SF. The lunch specials are a total deal. Great potstickers and hot'n'sour soup. The staff was friendly and indulgent of our friend's frisky 2 year old.

I always order the Spicy Chicken, because it's the best in the city. It's flavorful and crispy, not bland and soggy. Sometimes, when I'm not in the mood for sesame chicken, I'll order a kung pao dish loaded with fresh vegetables. Then I can show off my chop stick skill by popping peanuts in my mouth with a Miagiesque precision. But regardless of which dish I order, you can bet I'll complement it with a cup of delicious won ton or hot and sour soup, and a couple award-winning crab cheese won tons.

Ambience: 5 star Lights not too bright, soft easy glow over each table or booth There was no overbearing music, but lots people having their own private conversations. Energy was calm n relaxing.. Comfortable like home Service:5 We walked in to meet taker outters eagerly waiting Warm welcoming smiles at the register Waitress- who we have had many times before. Absolutely the friendliest woman I've met.. Very much motherly and made us feel like we were at families home. Food:5 Now this is coming from me who absolutely dislikes your "typical" Chinese restaurant... Appetizer- plump huge pan fried dumplings with sauce that wasn't too sweet and wasn't too salty Our entrees- beef with hot garlic sauce Sauce so delicious the meat perfectly cooked not a second over cooked.. Now my man pushed over the mushrooms (he doesn't like) and added this would be perfect with broccoli and carrots for more crunch of course I said gimme some more heat! Next Old Sesame Chicken- which was freshly cooked. The coating of the chicken was just Caramelized golden... Perfect Now you could definitely share one plate we have a ton left over and honestly cheaper than ALOT of places! My favorite: hot n sour soup and the complimentary hot tea. This truly deserves a line out the door but love the best kept secret tucked away!!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
