Am I reviewing the mission or the coffe house? Hold that thought: it doesnt matter. Fantastic chai, traditional and exquisite cappucino, easy atmosphere that makes both chatting with a friend or concentrating on a paper easy. So it stands on it's own as a coffee shop, and as someone familiar with the org behind it I know for a fact this place tangibly benefits people transitioning out of tough spots in life. I maintain a healthy skeptisism towards any charitable org, and there arent many questions about these guys. Stop reading this and go already!!

My husband and I would like to keep this place our little secret, but Purple Door really does deserve five stars. Did you know that they hire troubled teens - on purpose? We've had nothing but great service. Usually, we will go here halfway through our Saturday morning run. We'll have a latte and share a turnover. The turnovers are OMG delicious. My favorite is the green chili/bacon turnover. They have good pastries too. Very rarely is there a line, and so far there's always a place to sit.

Went here dressed as Matches running a tail on a smuggling lead. Almost blew my cover as I sipped my espresso. It's that good. Note to self : have Alfred switch the beans at the manor to Corvus.

The people are kind. The coffee/tea/baked goods/yoghurt are delicious. There is a lot of natural light. The wifi is fast. I love and require each of those things in an excellent coffee shop. I love PDC!

Service was sub-par. My son and I stood there for a full two minutes before the cashier even acknowledged me and I think it was because I was staring so intently at her she had no choice. The red-headed barista was much friendlier but sadly she was busy making coffee and isn't the 'front man.' Coffee was okay not great. Bacon and pepper pastry pretty good. It's a shame to hire sub-par staff at such a lovely place. Dragged the whole experience down. I must say she was much friendlier to some of the customers she knew but that's no way to get new customers! I'll skip it and head to Cole Craft where they aren't so full of themselves.

For a neighborhood that doesn't have much going on, purple door came to the rescue. It's a very nice and clean atmosphere, a place I was able to get a lot of work done. The coffee was delicious although a bit pricey. I am however looking forward to returning and trying more.

Nice coffee, cool clean layout, great people. I would highly recommend it. For coffee shops in Five Points area, in top 2 in my opinion, with Crema.

This business is amazing on so many levels. Their coffee is great, but they also do some incredible work within their community. They have a work programme that helps the disadvantaged get back onto their feet and walk away with functional job skills. I prefer the pour-over, light-roasted beans. The tea selection is great, too. The place is well-designed and has a light, bright atmosphere. Staff is super friendly. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Wonderful coffee shop! Uses locally roasted coffee beans and even make their own syrups. I ordered a cafe' mocha and was a little worried about too much sugar in the chocolate - oh my word!! It was amazing; not sicky sweet but had a wonderful chocolate flavor. Staff was no nice and attentive. Madison made my drink (thanks!); Kevin greeted me when I came in, explained about their products, was even interested in my latest knitting project - you can see it in the pic I posted with the frothy hearts on my drink! I came here to support the amazing work they do in the community, I'll come back for the amazing ambiance and coffee!

I have to share this info: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Purple Door Coffee shop, celebrated on Yelp for its stellar French espresso and unique house blends, is considered one of Denver's best--and not just because of the beans. Here's the scoop: the shop's owners, Madison Chandler and Mark Smesrud, opened their "royal" purple doors two years ago with the intention of employing and supporting homeless youth. "We believe that every human being has incredible value," says Smesrud in their company video. "And it's not defined by their successes or failures." Once the teens are hired, they are also taught job skills like customer service, financial skills like budgeting, and coping techniques to manage their emotions. Now in their second year serving fair trade coffee at 2962 Welton St., Chandler and Smesrud continue to learn along with their pupils. "The hardest part of this job for me has been how to balance pushing someone to become better and being gracious to them when they fail," Chandler told KUSA-TV in Denver. Their success in creating a nurturing environment has empowered Purple Door employee Jenna Williams, 23, who had been struggling with homelessness and drug abuse since age 15. Thanks to the experience gained at the coffee shop, she's been able to secure a full-time job at Starbucks. "The Purple Door Coffee family gave me a chance no one else would," Williams told KUSA.. "It's all about love. We're not just a business. We're not just a coffee shop. We are a family." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A colleague shared this story, and I think that the heart and soul of this coffee shop alone is worth the trip. I wish more organizations valued people and expressed this compassion.

When I'm around the Five Points neighborhood, I like to pop into this charming coffee spot with free wifi and well-made coffee. If you want to camp out and log in hours of work, there are good spots for it, just few and far between. There is a cozy vignette with trendy furniture and cool antique sewing machines serving as tables. The cortada is smooth and rich and I also noticed they serve cold brew Corvus coffee on hand in a nifty Corvus mini fridge, which I think I just might have to take a return trip for!

Sitting at one of the tables, I couldn't help but notice the detail out into this shop to make it welcoming. Blonde floors, dark brown bar and shelves, and an long open space on the left with exposed brick running floor to ceiling, and a neutral fog blue, paired with Victorian/garden-esque wallpaper on the right. The espresso machine proudly declares "La Marzocco", parked like a Cadillac on top of the bar, while grinders sporting the flags of Corvus and Sweet Bloom site close by. When I ordered my USA, I went with a 12 oz. Carefully pressed and silently made (which I'm starting to appreciate more compared to my home setup which screams at me at 6AM and wakes me up just as much as my coffee), I received the pour in a large bowl cup. I saw the different layers swirling, as the espresso mixed with the hot water. The aroma matched the taste: piney and woodsy with a sharper sour note compared to the chocolate I usually pick up from the Ink (R) I tend to drink. As I and the coffee sat, more flavors also revealed themselves. Quite a cup to sip on! The music is a bit loud, but nothing a pair of headphones won't tone down. And it is good music. If I weren't here to work, I could sit, sip, and enjoy the view with the music in the background. Open windows on 2 of the 4 walls stream plenty of light, letting in views of eclectic 5 Points. While the views from the outside looking in already delight (lightrails passing by, blending of the old houses with the new gentrification), the vision from the inside out is more important for PD, hiring employees who "have been homeless and want to leave homelessness behind" as stated by the founders.

Iced almond milk latte with Corvus coffee - smooth and delicious. I love the history and mission of this quaint coffee shop. I was too late for the daily paleo goods, but will be back again!

If a hungry girl walks through colorful piles of autumn leaves into an adorable coffee shop streaming her favorite music (Currently Polica) and orders a pumpkin croissant with crispy flaky crust and gooey buttery inside along with a maple butterscotch latte perfection and walks through the piles of leaves again to sit in her car all by herself to drive to work in her car all by herself and eat the scrumptious morsel and liquid radness all by herself... does it make a sound? Yes. Yes it does. It sounds like this, "Mmmmmmmmm..." #audibleapproval

This place was adorbs! Seriously, needed a little snack and was in the area and went by. The place is very stylish and clean. I LOVE the tables that used old Singer sewing machines as the base. This place mostly had coffee & drinks, but also had turnovers and coffee cake. I went with the bacon & green chile turnover and it was tasty. A friend got this root beer coffee thing and said it was delicious. I will definitely be back if I'm in the neighborhood.

I judge coffeeshops pretty much based on the quality of the coffee alone. I don't usually order pour-overs when I'm out for coffee, so I pretty much judge based on their espresso, macchiato, cortado, and cappuccino. So everything I've had here has been top quality, some of the best coffee in the city. I love their lighter-roast single origin coffees. The macchiato, unlike at some reputable coffeeshops in town, is a purist macchiato, espresso marked with micro-foam. I think it's probably one of the best macchiatos I've had in Denver. Their business model is awesome too.

  • Mitch M.

Their homemade pop tarts are fantastic! The coffee is stellar as well, very high quality. Great atmosphere, will definitely come back.

Denver has some awesome coffee shops, and Purple Door is definitely one of them! Several months ago, I camped out at this neighborhood joint for several hours while sipping on a strong and steaming Americano and snacking on a flaky and scrumptious bacon and jalapeño croissant. Thankfully, they have have plenty of comfortable seating and the music played at a quiet volume. Some other things that I love about Purple Door is that they have free and solid WiFi, no pretentious hipster vibe, and its mission to provide opportunities for homeless youth to attain job skills. How could you not support a business like this? You really do treat people like royalty, Purple Door! Hope to see you the next time I'm in Denver!

    (4)
  • Jenna N.

Mmmm!!! Purple Door is amazing. Their almond milk lattes (hot or iced) are my favorite. The environment is so friendly and comfortable too. This is a great place to get a cup of coffee with a friend and chat, or sit and read/work/use their fast wifi. Highly recommend as the best coffee shop in northeast Denver. I will be back many times!

Excellent little shop in Denver, the first on my morning coffee crawl today. Best, clean, good seating and bar space. Staff was immediately very friendly and helpful. Gluten free raspberry granola bar and Americano were very good. Definitely worth your time if you're in this area.

  • Belteshazzar D.

Good coffee, super friendly staff, great location! Their baked goods and breakfast burritos never disappoint, and free coffee refills too. I also appreciate that they are assimilating rather than gentrifying the neighborhood, like so many other businesses. I noticed they hire non-traditional staff and baristas to support the community. Its always appreciated to see some diversity at coffee shops. Great environment to work in as well. Wifi is fast and doesn't give any trouble like some other shops' wifis do. Plenty of space and different seating sections, so it's not hard to find somewhere comfortable to lounge or do work.

  • Brianna B.

While I was in the neighborhood, I thought I'd stop in to check it out. The space is bright, friendly, and well put together. There are some tables and a nice couch area too. I love that the atmosphere gets away from the trendy/hipster type coffee bar and instead feels original in concept. I ordered a soy chai and one of their oatmeal bars. The chai was delicious and just the right amount of spice without being too sweet. The oatmeal bar was delicious and had a great chewy texture. And bonus, they have cortados on the menu! The staff was friendly and genuinely happy to see new and old customers walk through the door. Overall very happy with this shop and can't wait to come back to check out the espressos.

  • Rachel R.

After a recent trip to Europe, I'm becoming a tough cookie when it comes to good espresso. Purple Door Coffee is the first shop I've found since returning that's comparable to the perfect French espresso I enjoyed in Paris. Today was my first time there and I loved the whole experience. The staff were really sweet and knowledgable and get 5 stars for being unpretentious, bending the norm of the Denver coffee scene. The WiFi was fast (yeah, these guys haven't covered their plugs yet like other shops coughCremacough), the beverages were all top-notch, the ambiance was soothing, but had a great coffee shop chatter buzz. The decor is comfortable and clean. This is definitely my new spot. The location is so great too.

  • Faris J.

The place has a really cute hipster feel with more than enough seating. Very friendly staff more than happy to create the perfect cup of coffee for their customers. They are really throughout with their orders and make sure you get exactly what you wanted.

  • Darika S.

Nice people, really good coffee and the gluten free oatmeal bar is really good. After a trip from Italy I'm trying to find a similar cappuccino. Purple door has a decent one, though just a tad too much milk comparatively. This is my favorite one in Denver so far though. When I'm in the mood for an espresso I'll have to try it because the coffee in this is high quality. I'll be a regular here. Free wifi, bar with seats, about 4 tables and couches. Some outdoor seating as well.

  • Jade B.

LOVE THIS SPOT. Compared to its brethren in the area, it is by far the most delicious/comfortable and affordable. It also helps that the staff treat you and act like normal, friendly, non-extreme-hipster-we-are-all-too-cool-for-you baristas. I highly recommend a 1/2 soy and 1/2 almond latte - they do it RIGHT here. There is also a ton of natural light, and an almost private back table area that is great for meetings. Seriously, this is one sweet work/chat/read spot.

This is not only a great place to relax with a great cup of coffee and friends, it's a great place that's making a difference in people's lives.

After going a few more times I'm still at three stars. I've tried several other drinks, but just haven't been super impressed by anything as of yet. I will say the staff here is very friendly and the outdoor patio is so great. I also really appreciate that you can get a drink for $2-which is pretty fairly priced compared to their competitors.

  • Matt T.

Seems like the coffee has been getting better the past few months, which only makes me more happy to hang out here! They are carrying more varieties including sweet bloom, and their original Corvus, and may be getting more in the future, I'm liking it more and more!

  • Hanna P.

Amazing coffee!!! After ordering one caramel latte, I couldn't believe how good it was and immediately ordered another one to go! Will be back next time I'm in Denver for sure!

  • Carolyn B.

I'm from Minneapolis, lived in France and rarely go to cafés anymore because I like the price and taste of my own cold brew better. Purple Door, however, was wonderful. I partook in the best mocha I've ever had, authentic chocolate and not too sweet. My friend had a tasty chai tea latte. The atmosphere was friendly, clean, bright with natural light and just simply classy. Who cares if we got a soup spoon with our pastry? It made it memorable and their mission is genius!

  • Amanda L.

First trip based on recommendation and it could not have been a more enjoyable experience. We sat and read and worked here for hours today and loved every second of it. The mission, the kind and efficient staff, the coffee and warm and inviting atmosphere made this one of the most enjoyable Saturday coffee shop days I have had in a long time. I work in the neighborhood and will frequent this place much more often.

  • Rose A.

The interior and atmosphere is clean and well designed. It has a touch of Victorian charm, but not cluttered at all. The coffee they use, Corvas, is delicious. The baristas were extremely friendly and not 'barista snobs,' like you find in so many of these new boutique coffee shops.

    (5)
  • Kelly H.

This has to be the cutest, cleanest and pleasing to the eye coffee shop I have ever visited. From the service, decor, delicious chai and all, this is a little hidden gem! Can't wait to make this a frequent stop-in

  • Isaac B.

Best espresso east of the 25. (And we get around.) Pair that with a great color scheme, neat sewing machine tables, exposed brick, cute little succulents, and super friendly folks. Not to mention wifi, quiet neighborhood, and awesome music choice. Giant win.

    (5)
  • Karen B.

The baristas know what they're doing! His explanation of what would be in my americano (bean-blend wise) was terrific. And it was exactly as promised. Delicious. Charming, hip and welcoming environment.

  • Renee R.

The Purple Door's interior is bright and inviting, however, I hoped to have a better experience because it's in walking distance. I ordered a small latte, which comes in an 8 ounce cup - typically smalls are 12 oz. Then, it came time to pay....$3.50 - whuuuuuutttt?! I think that's a bit over priced for only 8 ounces compared to Thump and even Starbucks-it's in Five Points let me remind you. Now it came time to drink up. The latte's surface design and temperature looked/felt fab but a bit disappointed in the espresso- it was just a bit tangy and bitter. The furniture and color go well with the rest of shop and I sat in a chair along the windows with tables (vintage sewing machines) looking toward 30th. That seating arrangement was not comfortable as you cannot place your legs/feet right under the table. You're literally sitting on the side of a table which just doesn't physically work and discomforting.

This shop is right at the end of my street and I always end up coming here if I need a good coffee/work space. Everyone is super nice and the atmosphere is great. They even sell bottled cold coffee, which my roommate is addicted to.

This place is great and I almost hate leaving a good review in hopes to keep this little hidden gem to myself. It is a great mission, the staff is great, and the coffee is fantastic!

  • Lauren S.

This is out new favorite place!!! They have the BEST croissants, made fresh daily with multiple flavors and a seasonal special. Fun atmosphere and great barista-the large hot chocolate was beautifully done and the large was enough for two to split! We will definitely be back!!

  • Allison B.

I love this quaint, friendly local coffee shop just down the street from me. Other people that live in my building go here a lot, too. The turnovers are yummy and come from a local bakery. I'm sure the tea is good, but I have only had coffee. Madison, one of the owners is warm and welcoming. I try to support local businesses whenever possible, and this one tops my list.

  • Natalie A.

I love the concept behind this special place. The service is always prompt and friendly. They have a very tasty chai latte. Atmosphere is cozy, yet clean. Side patio is a great option. The owners seem like they have the best interest of the customer and the employees in mind. Overall, a gem!

    (5)
  • Ed B.

Super nice comfy space. Probably some of the nicest furniture of any coffee shop in town. It has a pretty swanky feel. . The coffee lives up to the quality of the space. If we lived closer, I would certainly be a regular. They don't tout it much it seems, but this is a social enterprise as well. We need more like them.

  • Ian K.

Great service, offerings and decor. Savory turnovers from Wooden Spoon and chai is a great way to start the day. Upscale decor that was very well styled. Another great addition to an ever-improving Curtis Park.

  • Maggie D.

We dropped in on a rainy morning for something hot to drink. What a delight! My friend had lattes, and I had a cup of tea. Both were great. But most especially, they sure know how to do tea! They preheated the cup, and the water was HOT. They even gave me a timer that let me know when it had steeped enough!!!

    (5)
  • Jonathan S.

So many kinds of chai. This is the best problem I've had in years. It's a little hard to find for a non 5 Points resident. But that may just add to their local charm.

  • Katie V.

Purple Door Coffee is absolutely adorable inside! Very comfortable, bright, lots of seating. Their mission is to employ youth who need a hand getting back on their feet. Ask them more about it, support them, love them. What better place to get coffee than a place where you get to give back a little too?

    (5)
  • Adam F.

Wow. I heard about this place from a friend so I wanted to check it out. I pictured a kind of run down coffee shop in a bad neighborhood... But for a good cause. Boy was I surprised! This place is super nice, comfortable, clean, etc. Great coffee, great atmosphere, and an excellent cause of helping to rehabilitate those who have spent time on the streets. Seriously, one of the nicest coffee shops I have visited. I will be back for sure.

    (5)
  • David S.

Excellent mission, and Purple Door holds up even without that bonus. Great decor, and it's a comfortable space. I grabbed a spicy iced chai and a chocolate chip cookie today, and both were great. Glad to have it in the neighborhood, and it should be great for this stretch of Welton.

  • Kimberly C.

I went to Purple Door shortly after it opened and then again a few weeks ago. The atmosphere is great with the decor and natural lighting, the coffee is made with care, and the staff are friendly. I typically get either just brewed coffee as their selections are delicious, or I will get a cortado which they have always made spectacularly. All of the treats I have tried have been delicious as well. I wish it was more along my path, but it is definitely worth going out of the way for a good study/work/meeting spot.

i read about this place in the Denver Voice and immediately wanted to check it out - local, coffee, AND they support the community of Denver in a wonderful way? yes please! it's a small and cute little place, coffee was not the best i've ever had, but good enough i will be back. unfortunately it's not in my neighborhood, so i won't be there all the time, but maybe it'll be like a fun little extra long drive once in awhile.

I don't know what is actually different about it compared to other places, but I've been here twice and had the best ice vanilla latte ever both times!

  • matt w.

Friendly & genuine staff. Great vibe. Carefully chosen music. They serve Corvus - a great local roaster. Community focused. Everyone makes you feel welcomed & at home. Everything I've ever had here is excellent. I especially love the chemex brewed coffee & the bacon & chili turnovers. I work near PDC and have now made it my "go to" coffee shop for meetings, caffeine, and community. Not everyone knows this, but you can ask for the back room to be reserved if you need to host a meeting with a few others - no charge or hassle! The community here is incredible and it feels good every time you walk through the door.

    (5)
  • Gretchen M.

I love Purple Door Coffee, not only because its a cozy place with free wi-fi and nice furniture, but it is also a place where I feel so good about buying their products. They are helping the homeless and we the community in Denver and surrounding areas want to see PDC grow and become a household name in the Colorado region. Heck, if we can, I want them to grow so they can open branches in other states, not just Boulder, or C.Springs or Aspen. But, really growing into a huge market for helping the homeless one cup at a time.

Purple Door has everything- delicious, quality coffee, great atmosphere and a wonderful mission to help people who have been living in poverty. I could even take my coffee snob friends here from Portland, Oregon and they would be impressed. This is going to be your new favorite shop. Not a lot of fluffy drinks on the menu, but my little girls liked the hot chocolate...maybe consider having some whipped cream for kids? GO NOW!

    (5)
  • Tiffany N.

I really like Purple Door Coffee. It's a smallish coffee shop with good coffee, friendly people, free Wi-Fi, and a small assortment of snacks so it pretty much meets my basic needs. Beyond all of that they have a pretty good mission so that's nice to know. On a recent visit I had a regular cup of joe and a savory croissant made with bacon and green chiles. I hung around for a few hours after finishing my croissant and no one batted an eye at my working there. I'll definitely be adding Purple Door to my list of places to work and get caffeinated!

    (4)
  • Adam B.

Wowwwww. These guys are the fave in Five Points for sure... Anyone who brews with Sweet Bloom or Corvus coffee knows their material. They pulled me a cortado and my wife a cappuccino, and it tasted just like Corvus' Jackson Select when I had it at Corvus. It's one of the best blends in Colorado. Two ladies were running the bar, super nice and quality conscious, she pulled my shot two or three times before she was happy with it. Make sure u give these lovely ladies a tip with your drink for escalating the Denver coffee scene!
