Why so many bad reviews! My boyfriend loves Popeyes, so we stop by here every couple of months. Last night, we got the Tuesday special (leg and a thigh for 99 cents), crawfish, and some fries. The food was piping hot! The only minor complaint I have is that the inside just feels really icky.

So... Yea... I am embarrassed to say that Popeye's is a guilty, fat kid, pleasure of mine... They've got tasty chicken... Unfortunately, everything else is the same in every location I've been in... I've never been into a Popeye's and said to myself "Oh, this Popeye's has a clean bathroom" or "Oh! this Popeye's cashier is actually friendly" or "Oh! I don't feel like I'm not risking my short term, and long health by eating here" I hate that I love it, but love that I hate it. I cry every time I step into one of these establishments and order the 3 piece spicy mean, with the Red Beans and Rice, OR Mashed and Gravy. I cry because I hate myself so much for enjoying it so much... Also, with this location... Don't expect friendly service. Or fast service. Or, hygienic service. Something about the employees at this one... Yeeuck... [And now I shiver from the thoughts]

Went here last week because it was still open after 11:00pm and was bringing home dinner. First of all, drive through attendant was rude, when I asked for a 5 piece tender meal, and she gave me attitude about them only having 3 tenders left and it would take too long to fry more, so being tired and hungry, I agreed and ordered a few more things for my family. Then at the window, I did end up waiting a long time anyways...thinking that's completely fine if they are frying fresh chicken for me. Got home and we opened up the boxes. DISGUSTING excuse for fried chicken, completely inedible and we threw it out. At the time I had a feeling it was done on purpose because of the way I was treated when ordering. Recently moved to Denver from the south, and was looking forward to the Popeye's I'm used to...am extremely disappointed that I now have no appetite to come close to a Popeye's again. :(

I love eating chicken and didnt know that this place would ruined my appetite that day. When you walk inside, you can see a lot of trash on the floor, the tables where not cleaned thoroughly. When you are ordering on the counter, you will notice that they are untrained to converse with the customer. No customer service, NO IDEA on what they are doing. And I wonder wht this place didnt close a long time a go.

    (1)
  • Aly G.

This place is just bad. Dirty tables. Trash can was full. No napkins out. Bad service. I was so irritated with them that I left before even half my meal was done. I tried to go to the counter to get pepper for my tasteless corn and was ignored. Never going back. Also calling corporate.

This chain has always captivated my taste buds but this location left a bad taste in my mouth. After 25 minutes we got food that was not what I've come to expect from Popeyes after eating here at different locations for 10 years. I will not be going back to this one

    (1)
  • Kim B.

oh dear lord, noooo! Don't go here. This was the single worst dining experience of my life. Just wanted a snack with a friend and the place is just as dirty as can be. I was given sugar packs that had soaked up some unknown liquid and were solidified. I honestly almost lost my appetite. I just ordered a coleslaw because they didn't have salad and the coleslaw was old. : / The floors were filthy and someone was sweeping around our table and i had to cover our food. Yes it's on Colfax, what should I expect!? A window was broken out. The trash was overflowing. I'm not sure what we were thinking when we chose to go here to eat!

    (1)
  • Matthew C.

Honestly, I wish I knew a better place to get spicy fried chicken (not buffalo style either). I could make it myself, but that takes work - so that's out. Popeye's on Colfax does do the trick during the day, but who knows how they stay open - the place was empty at lunch time. But, service was fast, the food was good - and I could have a nice quiet uninterrupted lunch. It was like eating in a poorly funded library.

The food is good, but the kids here really have no idea what they're doing. They can't run the register. They can't count change. They can't process orders efficiently. They don't know the menu. You'll be charged some random amount of money that'll vary inexplicably (one time some idiot kid tried to charge me $14 for 5 pieces of chicken). The food is great. But you should expect to wait up to 20 minutes for it at times, to argue for the correct price, and you must absolutely check everything is right before leaving. It's pretty much one of the worst-run fast food places I've ever seen.

  • Adam M.

Got to the drive thru at lunch time, left by dinner time. Nothing fast or positive about my experience.

Bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad, worst restaurant I have ever been to. They did not respond at the drive thru, so I went inside and the lone employee that could be seen was scrambling to find the one worker that could speak english. He did not speak english on any legitimate level to even understand a number 3 with tea and fries, I had to repeat myself several times. 15 minutes later when I got my food it was soggy and old.

    (1)
  • Daniel C.

My favorite fast food fried chicken. By far. I honestly don't know why anyone who lives in a city with a Popeye's would ever eat at KFC. In addition, this location is great for some people watching after you're through animal watching at the nearby Zoo.

  • Alyson A.

It pains me to give any restaurant two stars or less, especially a Popeye's. In the five or six visits I've had to this location, they have gotten it right once! Once it was the entire box of biscuits they forgot. Another time it was an incorrect amount of chicken. But every single time they always give us spicy instead of mild when it's asked for. This makes me crazy because my husband likes spicy and I prefer mild--why have a choice if you're never going to actually give me my preference??

    (2)
  • Nikki P.

I use to love coming to this location, however my recent visits have left me quite disappointed, and this will be my last visit for sure. The person taking my order was having difficulty speaking and understanding english. After repeating my order 3 times, she finally asked me to come to the front window. I gave her my order, and to no surprise it was wrong. I ordered mac and cheese with the kids meal as I always have. I was then told that it would be an additional .30, even though the menu states a regular side with the kids meal, not fries. My fries that we had just handled were taken out and put right back in the basket being served! I was then charged $1.08?? Apparently math is a difficulty as well. The receipt I was handed, I was charged for sauce, because there is no button for the side upgrade ( obviously because this is fictitious). I left with the mac and cheese, my order still wrong, and cold food. I was the only one in the drive thru at 12:30, so I'm probably not the only one to experience this rude and incapable staff. To bad.

Just want everyone to CHECK the ingredients list before eating ANYTHING from Popeyes. Its FULL of MSG. In this day and age, its unbelievable that anyone would add MSG to their food. So sad. Never ever again.

If you feel like you haven't seen the street people of Colfax enough lately, make a point to drop by this Popeye's chicken on a Tuesday. With their Tuesday special of two pieces of dark meat for 99 cents, the place is bustling with some of the best (and worst) Colfax people watching anybody could hope to see. I had a craving for fried chicken, until I tasted the fried chicken I got from Popeye's. This was the weirdest fried chicken I'd ever seen, with an armor of crust surrounding very dry and tasteless meat. I would only assume they're always busy on Tuesdays, due to the street cred with the people of Colfax, but they certainly don't prepare for it. Fast food? No. If anything, time itself stopped, while I waited for a meal I could tell almost instantly upon ordering wouldn't be worth torturing my body to ingest. But hey, there's bound to be a cat who goes through my dumpster tonight that will be very, very happy. Don't forget to bring spare change. The other patrons will be asking you for some.

Popeye's chicken...I was really not all that impressed. The biscuits are bland and boring as hell. I tried the mild chicken with the expectation of there being a tiny bit of spice and flavor, since this is supposed to be how chicken is done in Louisiana. But there was no spice to it at all. The saving grace for me was the mashed potatoes and gravy, but more so the gravy itself. A little different but a nice taste. The mac and cheese is decent, but nothing more than what Kraft produces. Of course we all know if you want mac & cheese to literally die for, you should head over to Dazzle. Popeye's chicken was not "strong to the finish, so I'll eats me spinach", instead.

    (2)
  • Dan K.

Popeye's is a guilty pleasure of mine and this popeye's in particular is my favorite. The people working there are friendly & attentive, the chicken will always be on the "fresher" side (it is fast food btw) and if you can stand the neighborhood you might see some interesting shit go down.

One word: Fuckups! When I lived in Colorado Springs, I would always order my number 5, catfish meal, and received the best service in the world! These people even knew me and my order by heart. I moved up to Denver and had to find another Popeyes and ran into this sorry excuse of a place. I went through the drive-thru, had to wait for someone to talk to me (it wasn't busy and there was no line) then ordered 2 catfish dinners. Stupid me should've done a meal check before leaving the place but on my way home I discovered that they had given me chicken! Turned around and went inside this time to encounter a line that was moving slower than ketchup out of a cold bottle. I gave the guy my reciept and the chicken and told him that the drive-thru screwed up my order. So the two women in the back, one that doesn't speak good english to save her life and the other that was either busy texting in the back and obviously NOT paying attention to orders was giving me an attitude. Seriously. So the one that couldn't speak good english had to void out the order and while she was doing that, get this, she was making a call on her cell phone! I was like "Ugh you might want to PAY ATTENTION to what you're doing!" From the time I was attended to to the time I left, it took 30 minutes to fix this shit! So while I was waiting for this fuckup, I looked at my Popeyes cup and saw a toll free number to call and did just that! I filed a complaint and spoke to a live person. People when places like this fuck up royally, DO call the number on the cup and file a complaint! I did it before with a subway and got a free meal and a letter of apology but that is another story where I was able to put a nosey bitchy woman in her place. But anyways, I'll be getting a free meal out of this and hopefully some sort of change. Until then, it's time to find another Popeyes.

I was looking forward to the Jambalaya, good but not great. Same as others, the mild chicken was not spiced at all. Kinda boring actually, but OK as chicken goes-- just looking forward to the cajun flavor. If you want Cajun, don't get mild.
