A Chicago style dog with fries here costs less than a hot dog by itself at Steve's Snappin Dogs (I'm sorry, but $3.65 for JUST a hotdog?). And they're nicer here! I used to be a 2 hot dogs with fries kinda guy but here I go for the hot dog, fries, and junior italian beef combo here. The beefs are just like they are in Chi-town. Great place! Will be back!

Welcome to town, Guys. I'm glad you finally made it to being open. I watched as that cool little building went from a nondescript vacant storefront, to a sign announcing your opening. I know it took you a lot longer than you hoped, with Denver's insane codes, inspections, health regulations, etc. Yep, pretty tough to get open in this market. I think you picked a good spot, you have plenty of street visibility, good parking, and a night life that will probably support the food too. Your food is good! I like your dogs OK. I love your hot Italian beef sandwich. I also love the Maxwell Street smoked polish sausage with spicy mustard! Wait, we had to go back for some food for a working crew, a 6-Pk chi-style dogs and fries for $15!!!! That's great!! Niko, from the windy town, says" Yep, not bad for outta the city" The guys are great here folks, go give em some love!

Great chili and Chicago dogs with crispy shoestring fries. Can't get any better than that. Limited seating with concrete floors tin walls, and a plywood counter. My kind of place. Great before or after a game!

  • Kat J.

Wow! I had the combo (Italian beef sandwich with an italian sausage on it) and it was DELICIOUS!!! The prices are great and the staff is excellent! I love the fact that they steam their buns and offer sweet peppers rather than only Vienna Beef hot giardinera. They must use Gonnella bread or they have a good bakery as a supplier, because I had my sandwich dipped and the roll held up It is the closest thing I have had to real Chicago food in Denver. I will be back time and time again!

We're glad this spot opened in our neighborhood! Very clean with friendly staff. While my husband still prefers Steve's Snappin' Dogs, and I can't say I "approve" of hot dogs for dinner (being a dietitian and all)- I can tell this will be a regular spot when we're not feeling like cooking. Mainly because its cheap and easy. And tasty too! I saw some very happy customers leaving with a hot dog 6-pack which comes in a cardboard holder just like bottled beer. Ha!

I have been here so many times and cant say enough how polite the girl thats always working the front register is or how fresh and delicious thier food always is. Whether its a chili dog or and italian beef, its always consitent and comes with fresh hot fries. I recommend the combo #9, chicago dog and a jr italian beef, youll get best of both worlds.

Fantastic $2 dog 'n fry happy hours. Pitch-perfect Chicago-style dogs and satisfying Italian beef sandwiches. A lot of food to be had for not a lot of dough. Always hit the 'stand up on weekends before going to the dog park.. reminds us of a little place called 'Windy City Red Hots' we used to frequent back on the East Coast. Friendly staff, nostalgic decor, convenient location to our place on Irvington. Well done, Mile High! We always leave with our tummies full and enough money left over to grab a latte at our favorite coffee joint.

This is THE spot for dogs and Italian beef. Chili cheese dog superb--great value--with fries and drink under $6 with tax. Hit the gym before you go and get the Italian beef--Chicago dog combo--you could spend $50 and not get a lunch that good. 2 locations Coors field and south Sante Fe--both clean, fast and cool.

Went to the one on 21st, just one block from Coors field. Had the Maxwell polish, and the chicago dog. Came with a good portion of fries. Both dogs were very good, and the price was right, especially for its location. A little hard to find though, because there really is no signage on the outside of the building. I will try this place out before going to a game and paying twice as much in the stadium.

  • David S.

Went by again tonight and got a combo beef, Italian sausage and Italian beef with giardenera. Perfectly edible and I am still dreaming about the giardinera.

When you're in the mood for a regular old hotdog, this is the spot! Delicious and simple. Also, Italian Beef is best around (per hubby) and the fries with celery salt are addicting!

  • Sarah G.

Simply delicious. Simple. Authentic. Colorful. Friendly. A good amount of choices. Great prices. It is what it is and does not try to be more. Period. If you want a dog, Mile High Vienna Stand gets the J-O-B done.

Anytime I get near Mile High Vienna Stand I am there. Great dogs, fries are the way I like them. The beef is awesome, get it spicy. Staff is friendly. I heard they are opening a another location by Coors Field - great move, that area needs a quick great place to eat cheap on the way to the game that's not a bar. Can't wait until they open, it will beat the dogs inside Coors in a second.

  • Megan C.

Best Chicago hot dog in Denver! The 3-5 happy hour special is hard to beat with a chicago hot dog and fries for only $2.

A co-worker brought me a "double dog" from Mile High Vienna Stand w/ all the fixins. Not too bad...actually pretty darn good.

It's all about the fries for me...I'm giving this place 4 stars because I received freshly fried french fries. Their fries do not have ANY shelf life so if they won't make them fresh for you don't even bother - they get soggy after just a few minutes of sitting in their kitchen. I noticed that they usually make their fries in advance when things are busier. It's such a shame because it's so easy to make them "to order" and I'm sure their customers wouldn't mind waiting a couple extra minutes for those very, very, tasty fresh fries. Oh ya...the dog. Very good selection and the dogs have very good taste and toppings. They have a very good "snap" when you bite into them. I usually go to this place around 3:30pm and at that time they have a "Happy Hour" dog and fries for about $3.50. Regular hours....Their prices are on the high side. It's hard to justify spending $7-$10 for a dog, order of fries, and a drink when a dog really isn't that filling. I'll keep going as long as I get fresh fried fries and a "Happy Hour" dog - if that leaves so do I.

This place is like 2 or 3 blocks from my place and it's O.k I could do a better dog myself. But who can mess up a dog. I tried the chilli dog and to be honest you can get a similar dog at 7-11 at least the chilli is very similar to 7's chilli and the fries kinda suck. There those little shoe string fries. What really bugged me is that the lady in there didn't speak english and had to run out back to get the person who takes the orders. She's cute but not real caring about what she's doing. Must be a part timer. I was expecting somthing different.

    (2)
  • Abby P.

This is a fun little place. I love the Chicago posters and pictures on the wall. Nothing beats Sweetness and the Super Bowl Shuffle poster. The hot dogs are great (ask them to split it open and grill it), and with a clip-a fries, it's a good deal.

  • Mark O.

Visited this place a week after vacationing in Chicago. It's pretty darn good. My significant other (who is a chi-town native), got a proper dog and I had a beef. This is about as authentic as it gets in Denver (aside from the lady on west colfax who runs the other authentic place). My only beef (hehe) is individual customers will sit at 4-chair tables, completely ignoring the 2-person tables. Kinda blows since, depending on the time of day you go, seating is limited (location on Santa Fe).

    (5)
  • Matt F.

All right, I'm throwing down a 5***** on this one. Why? It's clean and they are nice people, that's why! You want an Italian Beef or a ChiDog, they have it. Not like that other place on Colfax that I don't think has been cleaned since 1973 and with their pretend to be mean Chicago act. Back to Mile High Vienna Stand, great ChiDogs, they nailed it. The Italian's are just a tad on the sweet side, just a little. I can't figure it out, maybe a Rose wine in the marinade, but get the hot Giardiniera and you won't care at all. Also, their Widespread Panic fans, who doesn't love that here in Denver. Regardless, this place is a hit, it's great, you are quickly served, and they have a happy hour. Ka-Pow! That just happened.

    (5)
  • Crystal N.

I loved my Chicago dog without onions or peppers so much that I didn't realize I had no napkin until I was finished scarfing it down and the juice was dripping down my chin. Mmmmmm.... Quick, fresh, delish, and they have a place to sit outside with your lemonade and iced tea (Arnold Palmer). Yippee!

  • Pi L.

Want to love this place. Chill spot. Great for Chicago fans. Hot dogs are on point. Prices are good and the happy hour deal is pretty great. My gripe is with the Yelp Check In offer. Says FREE CUP OF CHEESE with check in. Nope. It cost money. Showed the kid at the register the yelp promo. Said sorry. Then he asked if I even knew what a Chicago dog was.... As if that has anything to do with false advertisement. Also, I do. I have a place on 1445 N State Pkwy in Gold Coast. As I write this the kid is sitting in front of me eating and texting. Literally right in front of me. So yea. Happy Hot Dog Day! Update. Haven't left yet. Just watch this kid get up and go to the back and dig into his butt under his shorts....right after I took that pic. Must have been one hell of an itch. He sits back down right in front of me and continues to eat and text. 2 minutes later he went to refill condiments without washing his hands or putting on gloves. I suggest going to the Ball Park location. Perhaps it has higher standards and service. This was disgusting and disappointing.

  • Kelly R.

We have a few great hot dog choices in Denver, but what I love about MHVS is that they keep it simple and do it right. If you're craving a good ole Chicago dog...this is the place to be!

    (4)
  • Michelle S.

Absolutely disgusting. Avoid this place at all cost. The bread was hot and soggy (they definitely wet the buns), the meat was ice cold and the fries weren't cooked all the way. The pizza rolls also weren't cooked all the way and were doughy. The staff was extremely rude. They were speaking Spanish talking down about my girlfriend and I ... Unfortunately for them I know Spanish even though I'm white! (!!Shocker!!). Get better staff.

5 stars, should be 10. Clean (very), comfortable, plenty of tables, cool shaded outside seating, HUGE parking lot and the food? Outstanding!! Perfect Vienna Hot Dog with a soft authentic bun, and the hot dog is tender with that "snap". We ordered Chicago Dogs, and the person behind the counter ensured that we wanted all the condiments, we did! The peppers, tomatoes and pickle slice were fresh, and totally tasty. Fries arrived fresh, hot and crisp. And there is more, they have a full menu of Dogs, Italian Beef(prepared the classic way) and even meatless selections and more, check Yelp for their Menu. Owner Sonny stopped by to check on us (a terrific pro move that I wish more owners would do) and filled us in on his menu and quality. A fast, easy to get in and out if necessary, great Dog, The Best in Denver, hands down!!!

In the world of hot dog restaurants this place is 5 stars. It is fast, cheap, and delicious. The Chicago style is assembled to perfection. It even has some autographed memorabilia for the Chicago fans who visit.

I came in on a whim after needing something quick and yummy on my way. I pass this place all the time so was surprised at the very good reviews on Yelp! For realz, I am NOT a hot dog person so I surprised myself when I really liked this hot dog. I got the Chicago Style Hot Dog with yellow mustard, chopped onions, relish, spicy pickled peppers and celery salt. Apparently I also came during happy hour so with a "clip" of fries it only came to $4. What a deal! While I was checking out a family that was in the middle of eating suggested I try the beef next time. Apparently they are regulars and they took a friend there from Chi-CAH-go who said it's legit the real deal, so there you go.

This is the most legit Chicago style restaurant I've been to in Denver so far. During my only trip, it was really crowded at lunch so we took it to go. Outside there is a covered patio area so when it gets warmer, it will be nice to eat outside here. I got the Italian beef sandwich. I just had to. I was happy with the amount of beef with all the herbs and seasonings you'd expect like oregano, basil, garlic, pepper, etc. The roll was dipped but kept it's integrity nicely. As for hot and sweet peppers, I always go hot. Giardiniera is a nice blend of hot veggies like peppers, celery and pimentos. By the end of the sandwich, my mouth had a nice burn to it (in a good way) and it reminded me of back home around Chicago. If you're wondering, when the combos come with a "clip" of fries, it's about a handful of fries (that got rolled up in the wax paper when you get it to go). I'll definitely be back here.

  • David T.

I still think this a good place to grab a quick bite. I have to say that I was a little surprised by the prices these days though. Two dogs (no fries or beverage) $9.46 - maybe I'm out of touch but that seems a little pricy. Counter girls are really sweet and they're quick.

  • Brittany S.

This Chicago hot dog spot is as good as they come. It's just what you're craving and just what you're expecting fast, cheap and delicious. The chicago dog and the polish dogs are scrumptious. For a hot dog lover like me, this place does the trick!

  • PJ J.

Ok, fine. I've been compelled to write a new review. Womp x 3, whattayaknow? I'm a born and raised Chicagoan, not from Naperville, or NW Indiana..but an actual city boy. Lawrence and Kedzie approximately. I had a double dose of Maxwell and regulah Chicago style at this place right after landing. Holy dogshit! This place's hot dogs go SO far to be real that it is unreal. I loved everything including the well done skinny fries. This place is a typical good joint you'd find in the city. What puts this place on par with Superdawg, Fluky's, Jim's, Susie's, and East of Edens...(no 'like a Gene n Jude, and Portillo's is too mainstream now).....is that this place is in Denver. Don't get me started on a "Hot Doug's is all hype" rant If you find yourself in the mile high city and hanker for home. This will certainly do the trick. MHVS...let's see some pizza puffs and we can talk 5 stars. At any rate, thank you! Respect! Keep up the good work. Oh, can I get a squeeze bottle for the ketchup? Because, I don't care, I squirt a little ketchup on my dogs and polish.

  • Pixie M.

Pretty close to authentic Chicago dog. My husband it addicted to this and fills up his punch card like it's going out of style. Our boxer dogs are huge fans as well and they probably have earned their own punch cards -- they are fans of the plain Vienna dog. The chili dog was delish - though I would be aghast to have nacho cheese instead of the traditional shredded cheese.

  • Jeff S.

Sometimes a man just craves a hot dog. MHVS came through for me yesterday when that craving hit me. I had a polish sausage Chicago Style, that's onions, relish, sports peppers, mustard, tomato, pickle and celery salt. The pickle was a little rubbery, other than that it was a great dog. I was still hungry afterwards so I grabbed a regular dog. The prices are reasonable, the food is tasty, and the location is convenient. I'm sure I'll find my way back here.

Authentic! Love the decor some wonderful sports memorabilia, nothing like a dog with the hot peppers! Pork chop sandwich and the Chicago style tamales. Easy parking and Sonny the owner is always a blast, Love him always a smile on his face.

I'm from Chicago and the beefs are legit. Not Chicago legit but close enough for Denver and me. If you could open one in the Tech Center it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The Chicago style dog isn't my go-to with hot dogs/wieners/sausages (I actually think the hot dog itself tastes weird), so I ordered a polish dog with sauerkraut. Fortunately, it's cheap. :) There is an outdoor patio that has a roof (yay!) but is not closed in (boo!), so in the summer, it's hot. It IS on Santa Fe, but it has it's own parking. GENDER-FRIENDLINESS: Neutral I imagine. Seems like it would be fine in general. I went at 2pm and it was a lot of seemingly Cisgender men on their lunch breaks, dressed for white-collar & blue-collar jobs. Bathrooms are gender marked, but single-occupancy. DISABILITY-FRIENDLINESS: Wide spaces to move through. Most seats are tables with metal chairs that aren't *too* heavy, as well as a line of backless, spinning bar stools. Entrance to inside is flat. Counter to order at is really high up, but the girl at the counter told me the employees are always happy to help people order or swipe their credit cards. Bathrooms are wheelchair friendly. Sink and door handle are the long-handle style and are easy to use. Bathroom door is weighted to close, but very light. There is 1 designated disability parking spot, though the parking lot is pretty small and flat, so you wouldn't have to go too far.

Mile High is awesome! Coming from Chicago it's like a slice of home. Staff is always very nice, food is quick and tasty. Hot dogs are amazing without question, Vienna beef at its finest, and always with fresh "Chicago Style" toppings. Love the Italian Beef sandwich, tender and SUPER juicy, just like it should be. Great hot peppers too. Love this place! Highly recommended!

    (5)
  • Russ B.

The eye candy when you first walk in should give most people comfort in knowing that hot chicks dig the big vienna sausage. The prices are outstanding and the food is even better. I had the polish sausage meal, includes fries and a drink, what a deal and one of the best polish sausages I have ever eaten. I highly recommend this place even though it is "Chicago" style; nothing good ever came out of Chicago.

  • Casey D.

Love this place. First off, check out the picture on the wall of Jay Cutler!! Hilarious! Worth the trip just for that. The atmosphere is fun. I like that they continue to add to the menu. Even though I always get the same thing. Chili dogs. The fries are good as well. My buddy always gets the Chicago dog and raves about them. It's a small dining room but the carry out option is the way to go if they are packed. The staff is always nice and friendly.

We came for lunch using the last of our $10 Deal Chicken coupons. The coupons were valid for a whole year which was really nice. We finally filled out a punch card and started a new card, so we will be back to get our free Chicago Dog. The internet was not working so the cashier was not able to swipe the credit card. My husband had to pay by cash. My husband ordered the #7 Combo (Jr Beef, Chicago Dog, fries, and a drink). This was the first time he tried the Jr Beef here. He said it was a little salty, but would order it again. I ordered the South-Side Polish Sausage with a clip of fries. It had spicy mustard, sauerkraut, sports peppers and celery salt on a steamed poppy seed bun. I prefer the Original Maxwell Street or the Santa Fe Drive Spicy Polish Sausages better. The fries were in tiny pieces. I think they were from the bottom of the bag. We will be back.

Classic hotdog stand. I usually get Chicago dog with the works and an italian beef sammich. Never busy or a line here, easy access right on Santa fe, reasonable prices.

  • Thor C.

Italian beef, cheese fries and a drink for eleven bucks. What's not to love? The seasoning of the beef. The meat was on the bland side with the only noticeable flavor coming from pepper, not marinade. It wasn't bad, but I've had better. The under-salted fries were cooked just right, and I had mine topped wit Whiz on a recommendation from a friend. Not bad. Portion sizes were the expected huge. I do love me a good Italian beef, so I may return here when I need a Beef fix, but I will keep on trying out other spots as well. I may have complained about the meat, but I ate every last bite. I'm full . . . . . . .

  • John G.

Hell yes! Real Chicago style hotdogs. Best I have found in Denver so far. I used to live right down the street from this place and extremely miss walking over once a week for a Chicago dog.

    (5)
  • Robin P.

A block from the house with free WiFi. Food is as advertised, Chicago style food cart fare. 2 Chicago dogs fries and drink is pushing ten bucks. I'm told to adjust my cheap ass to reality. Nice staff and easy parking. I'd be throwing Chicago sports parties if the place was mine.

What kid (or adult), doesn't get that craving for a hot dog? Me! Me! Did you say you wanted a hot dog? How about one (or more) of the following: Chicago dog, Italian Sausage, Corn dog, Italian beef, Chili cheese dog, Double dog, Vienna Polish Sausage, Santa Fe Spicy Polish Sausage, Elmwood Park Cheesy Beef, 6 Packs, and more! What do you want on that dog: mustard, onions, ketchup, saukerkraut, peppers, relish, tomatoes, pickles, celery salt, cheese, chili, or a combination of one of these. What would you want with that dog: original fries, cheesy fries, homemade green chili and cheese fries, vienna beef chili and cheese fries, beer battered onion rings, pizza puffs, or tamales? You say you have some pint size people with you (children) - no problem! There is a Kid's Special, which includes a hot dog, jucie, pickle, fries, and a surprise! Interior - red and yellow walls, black bar stools, black accents, open, friendly, easy going, clean too! Locations - two: 300 Santa Fe Drive, and 1312 21st Street. We have only been to the location on Santa Fe. At this location, there is a nice parking lot, with plenty of parking spaces. Prices - very affordable. Service - fast We've already been twice, and will be definitely back, because sometimes, you've just got to have that hot dog! See you there!

  • Laura O.

This place is darn good for dogs. The fries are also nice, and the price won't deter you from ditching your brown bag at lunch and heading here. The new location has plenty of parking and the service is quick. I do wish their lemonade and iced tea weren't powdered, because it is just gross. So really the only option to drink is a fountain soda which not everyone wants. I've only tried the dogs, not the beef sandwiches so I can't comment on those. Overall good, and I'll keep going back. Now, to make the Chicago dog experience perfect, may I request the addition of fried cheese curds to the menu? That would be heaven!

  • Jamie D.

This place is very tasty! Happy hour is a great $3 Chicago dog/fries deal! The poppy seed hotdog buns are always so soft and fresh, we have bought a package to go because we love them so much. For a girl that grew up not really liking hotdogs, the combo of the 100% beef frank, poppy seed bun and toppings really make this delicious. I want one right now just thinking about them. I have also tried the Italian beef sandwich, this was quite tasty. I would have preferred the bun to not be soaked in the au jus before it's assembled, but I will just ask for that next time, they always seem so helpful and willing to make things they way you want. They are always really quick on service, and the store is neat and clean.

Price is very reasonable and the food is great. My business partner and I go here for lunch occasionally since it is within walking distance. Everything I've tried has been pretty good and you can't get some awesome specials if you go at the right time. Check this place out if you're in the mood for a good Chicago dog.

After my 2nd visit is the best time to review. Its the Gonnella bread that carries the Vienna Beef all the way back to Chi-town. Almost perfection sans the "the Lakefront". Go for Italian Beef "wet". Double up on the "Chicago Style". Bring your appetite! $$

While I love fancypants hotdogs from Biker Jim's et al., sometimes I just want a good ol' hot dog with some mustard and kraut. MHVS didn't disappoint! Brent N. and I went there last night to use a Voice Daily Deals coupon. It was for $20 worth of food. Let me tell you, $20 could easily feed a family of four at MHVS...we ended up taking a lot home! We ordered 2 meals which included hot dogs, fries and drinks as well as a basket of cheese fries and a basket of onion rings. Our hot dogs were perfect and the buns were fresh and soft. The fries were some of the best fries I've had in a long time: shoestring, fresh, hot and crispy. They were great plain as well as topped with the nacho cheese sauce (a guilty pleasure of mine). The onion rings were also delicious- cut not too thick; not too thin and fried perfectly. I'm not a huge fan of onion rings and I found myself going back for a few more! MHVS is a great spot to get a tasty, inexpensive meal and I definitely plan to return.

  • patty h.

Being a Chicago native, I love MHVS! Come here whenever I'm in the neighborhood. Usually stick with the Chicago Dog, and the fries are just how I like them, thin and crispy. I kinda rate everything to Portillo's...anyone from Chi-town knows about this place, now a chain. I decided to try a chili dog with fries, and I would like you to consider making a big improvement on the chili on top of that great vienna weiner. A homemade chili with real chili beans would be supurb! Just a thought, but in the meantime, it's the chicago dog from now on....

My personal favorite in Denver for Chicago hotdogs and Italian Beef! Both locations have extremely friendly staff anda are kept SUPER clean! Amazing Beef and Hotdogs! Glass Coke, Sprite, Fanta! Fountain aswell!

    (5)
  • Mark S.

Good Chicago dogs and Italian beef, but I feel giving it anything over 3 stars would put that kind of food in too high esteem. It's more expensive than in Chicago somehow, as apparently getting cheap Vienna hot dogs costs more here in Denver. If you are from Chicago or lived there for a while you might love this place for the nostalgia, but please only come here late at night more than a few beers deep (with a DD of course), as that's when this type of food is best enjoyed.

Well Mile high has moved just down the street from their previous location. It is a freshly renovated building that they now have an outdoor patio for the summer as well as double the seating from the previous building. Also the have ADDED fresh brewed unsweet ice tea as well as fresh lemonade. This is by far better than the instant that was there from the soda machine.

Pretty much spent my whole life in Chicago until moving to Denver a few years back. There are quite a few places who promise Chicago style hot dogs. This is the only place I have found that is legit. You cannot go wrong with Vienna beef. A dog fries and drink comes in under 5 bucks which is exactly the way it should be. The inside of the shop is clean and decorated in genuine Chicago stuff. It is a treasure. I am so happy to hear they are opening another location down by Coors Field. If you want the real deal, check this place out.

The raves about the hot dogs are plentiful (and spot on) but what really takes my breath away is the Italian Beef. I grew up in Chicagoland with a family that treats an outing to Pops or Portillos like it is an outing to church, and I still think that the beef at Mile High is better! it's juicy and so soggy that the bread it is served on has the perfect hint of au jus immediately upon first bite. it is seasoned beautifully, not a bit dull and salty without being overdone. The sweet peppers add the perfect flavor and the fries are, as other reviewers mentioned, the perfect compliment in their greasy but not soggy way. If you want to go for extra Chicago-style gluttony, order the beef/sausage sandwich. Let me know what you think after you have woken up from your food coma. And, if you haven't tried one yet, order yourself a Pizza Puff. What is puff you ask?It is the single most popular item in a 1990 Chicagoland school cafeteria where children would line up in droves on Pizza Puff day. More specifically, it is like a cousin of the calzone, only more greasy and deep fried. In a word, heaven and he'll on my diet. If you grew up in Chicagoland you will also appreciate the gritty authenticity of this place. The shade of red only a hot dog stand would attempt, the Chicago sports paraphanelia, including some old-school Chicago sports legends, and even a map where you can place a pin to show from where in Chicagoland you hail. I love and hate that it is so close to my house...a true home away from home.

I'm truly happy this place exists. In Chicago this place would be a dime a dozen but here in Denver, a city lacking in good hotdog places, Mile High Vienna is a godsend. There's a few "Chicago" style joints in Denver but none of them replicate that chicago hot dog stand flavor like this place does. The dogs are standard but classically delicious. The cheese for the cheese fries is on point and they have pizza puff(haven't order this but I will next time). The staff was really nice as well. I believe it was a mother/daughter team and they were sweet.

I wanted to love this place for its Chicago Dog, but it just didn't really come together. The dog, the bun, the fixings, everything seemed...half-hearted. Solid french fries though. The atmosphere was a little odd too -- it felt like there was an attempt to be "homey" that fizzled out.

Even better since the relocate a half block north on Santa Fe @ 3rd. Much nicer new space with plenty of room to spread out and a longer sit down counter. Can't wait until summer gets here so I can try the new outdoor patio and I can't wait for the beer/wine license so I can have a beer here! Plenty more off-street parking at the new location and a nicer decor inside the new digs. Food has consistently remained decent here with the exception of the fries. For some reason they vary with each visit - sometimes they are nice and crisp and other times they are soggy. Probably an issue that Sonny or Jeremy should address sometime since it's the only thing I can think of that could be holding you back. This still remains the #1 Hot Dog shop in Denver after all these years. The others fail in comparison. All the staff is super friendly here and the owners are the same. You'd be a fool to pass this place up. GET IN HERE NOW! They even use Simple to process their credit cards - they swipe on the iPad and you sign with your finger. A true Yelp 5-star business.

I can't claim to be a Chicago Dog connoisseur but, I have had my share of them. Chicago itself included. We happen upon ourselves on Santa Fe headed to a concert and were starving. On the way, we saw Mile High Vienna Stand. The place was dead. We were the only people there. I thought that was weird. The menu was pretty large and I stuck with the Chicago Dog with everything on it. Brian got the Italian Beef and a friend got a chili cheese hot dog and fries. The service was excellent and they run off an ipad with a square. Love how technology has changed. I sat down and bit into the dog. It was mighty tasty, but small. Very small. The bread and fixins overpowered the hot dog by far. After looking at the menu again, I realized that I should have gotten a double dog. Next time Mile High, next time. The rest of the food was okay, but mediocre. Nothing to write home about. It is a good place to stop if you are hungry, but not if you are seeking some great Chicago style food.

I grew up near Chicago, and when I moved here, not much in the way of a good dog or beef. That place over on Colfax is great, but far away and pricey. Then Mile High opened, and everything was OK. The dogs, beef, fries, and even cheese are perfect. The atmosphere and waitstaff miss the mark, because it's hard to find grumpy northsiders in Denver, but it's ok. I go here often, and will keep going.

MHVS is just where you go when you want a great dog! Awesome chili dogs! Awesome prices! They actually have happy hour hot dogs. I think you can get a chili cheese dog and fries for like $3.50 during happy hour. If you are a Rockies fan like me, there is also a location near Coors Field so that is where we pick up our dogs before a game. They are soooo much tastier than the dogs at the stadium.

I've had me plenty of Chicago style dogs in town and this is the one that reminds me most of the motherland. Quick service...check. Poppy seed bun...check. Vienna dog with great snap...check. Neon green relish...check. Diced onions...yup. Sliced tomatoes, indeed. Pickle spear, I'm pretty sure that's what it was. Pepperoncinis were also included, not to mention celery salt. Fries were great as well...nice and thin cut. And a meal costs a measly $5. (dog, drink and fries) But the kicker is...I believe at 3:30 - 5:30 they have happy hour where you get a dog and fries I believe for $2.50. Had I known, I'd have waited another 10 minutes. Doh! One side of the place is decorated in Chicago memorobilia while another, albeit smaller wall is decorated in Denver memorobilia. Great place for some Chicago memories. Overall, a great place worth checking out.

#2, $5.50, chill cheese dog with nacho cheese and fries. BOMB. Gone there two days in a row now, will be going back often.

I think this place is overpriced and it tastes like all the other Vienna beef places. I am going with Mustards Last Stand for the real deal.

I've been trying to get to Mile High Vienna Stand for ages. It is even incredibly close to my friend's house. So I've made excuses to stop by his place more and more lately, and I'm glad I did. Mile High Vienna Stand delivers the best Italian Beef in Colorado, hands down. Their chili dog is also spot on to what I recall from my early years growing up in Chicago. If you eat at the restaurant, they have the bar height counter running across the windows and one of the walls. There are chairs for them, but a true Chicagoan won't use these. They will have developed the required Italian Beef "hunch" and eat their sandwich standing up. Fact: The standing "hunch" position was not invented by Guy Fieri. It was invented by Italian Beef eating Chicagoans. Fact. Do you like french fries? Theirs are thinly cut fries, crispy and ALWAYS hot! Like, so hot that normal people will have to wait to eat them. Not me, though. Here's a secret: Always get your order to go. Then, when you get your order, remove your sandwich(es) and immediately dump your clip of fries into the brown paper bag and toss out the paper they came in. Add a little salt and shake the bag. You now have the best way to eat French Fries in the known galaxy. Yes, MHVS is the real deal. They have an eater friendly menu, too. Great combos, even one with a dog and a half Italian Beef sandwich that is my goto combo. I love you, MHVS!

Love having this place so close to the house! After a long day, when I'm really not up to cooking, I just stop in to MHVS. I usually go with the Chicago dog, exactly as it comes - it doesn't need any additions. I've also tried the polish sausage, which was excellent, and their kraut was incredible! But, my wintertime favorite will surely be the chili-cheese dog. Sooooo good. Sooooo cozy. Yummers. Anyway, the place itself is small - there are a few tables and some counter seating (which faces Santa Fe), but most people seem to pick up to go. Unless there's a long line, you should be in and out in about five minutes. Y U M.

We LOVE this place. It's our favorite date. We go at least once a month and going between 3 and 6 it's happy hour! Dogs are like 2 bucks it doesn't get any frickin better then that. Their fries are the best ever and it's the closest thing to a dog straight from Chicago. Only thing is right now they are kinda small so if there are people there you may not get a table but you can eat a dog anywhere so doesn't bother me!

  • Nicole W.

$2 hot dog happy hour is awesome! They have their own parking lot! Been meaning to stop in here for ages, it is on my way home is the traffic gods align! The chicago style is super fun, lots of goodies and nice little suprise kick from the crazy looking peppers! The workers don't know english so when the "white" guys isn't around they just sort of slink around trying to not make eye contact. Once he arrived and we ordered up our dogs it was fine! We really enjoyed the deal and the dogs. The fries were soso, but hey they came with the dog! Hope my commute brings me past there more often!

Yum! This is one of my favorite spots to hit up when I'm craving a little "Home." I have super high standards when it comes to hot dogs and this place makes me happy! Mile High Vienna Stand only uses Vienna hot dogs which is standard for a good dog. They also have perfect poppy seed buns that are soft and fresh, but don't fall apart when you fully load it "Chicago" style. I love that they have The Michael Jordan book and the No Ketchup on Hot dogs book along with a vast display of Chicago Bears and White Sox memorabilia. These things remind me of home everytime I go, and they even have a picture of my favorite hot dog place in Chicago posted on their wall. This place is legit, and they have a good happy hour deal along with popping up on groupon!

  • Abe M.

This place is great! I just had a great hotdog, fries, and a drink for under $6.00. Go "Michigan Style", and don't even think of adding ketchup to your dog. I'll be back.

  • Meredith G.

I am a fan on their dogs. I get them with just the caramelized onions. One issue I have is with the fries. They wrap them in the same wrapper with the hot dogs and they get soggy. I would pay 5 more cents to have them wrapped separately and not get soggy fries. No fry is better than soggy fries.

Since I'm from Chicago, having a good hot dog and Italian beef fix is important. MHVS does a very good job on the dog, though the bun does at times get a bit soggy. The Italian beef, however, leaves something to be desired. I just got back from a trip to Chicago and was able to have a beef sandwich from Al's and Portillo's. Now those are in the 9 out of 10 range (not sure anything is a 10) for Italian beef. Sadly, MHVS's Italian beef comes in at maybe 2. But since that is all we have here in Denver, I'll settle for the 2. I've tried a couple other places, and they weren't much better. That being said, I love this place. Very friendly staff and since they opened their new place on Santa Fe, the parking is better and the restaurant is a real upgrade. So, until someone else comes up with an Italian beef that really is closer to those you can find in Chicago, I'll stick with MHVS. Here is a Chicago Trib article on the best Italian beef in Chicago. trib.in/1r2RvC6

I was excited to try this place because a good Italian beef is tough to find outside of Chicagoland. I got their combo (Italian beef & Italian sausage) with hot peppers. I'm happy to say this is a passable version of a combo. I'm not gonna sit here and say its not as good as Chicago blah, blah, blah, because no shit... it's Denver. Frankly, I'm happy they even offer this dish as an option. The fries reminded me of McDonalds in a good way. The sandwich itself varied from what you get at the reputable places in chicago in two ways. First, the bread seemed a little different texture-wise from the version of the dish I'm used to. Second, the sausage was boiled I believe and normally it is grilled. Neither of these are huge deals, but worth noting for the purists out there. Pretty no frills and definitely affordable. I would return.

One of the best spots in the area to grab lunch. I have been going here for years and recommend it for several reasons. #1 the price is right #2 the fries are always fresh (add celery salt to them, yum) #3 they have a punch card so your 10th dog is free #4 hot dog happy hour #5 the staff remembers your name #6 the dogs are good #7 off street parking #8 tables are always clean #9 Sunny is the nicest guy Give them a try for lunch it is way better then 7-11 or Santiago's!

i work in the area and sometimes I just crave a dog and fries. their Chicago dog is as good as it gets, I prefer it with all the fixings love the peppers and onions. top it off with killer fries and a fountain coke. I think I just talked myself into lunch their today!

The service is great and the Chicago style hot dog is awesome! The only reason I gave it four starts is their cheese dip stuff is straight out of the can. Personally not a big fan. Go for happy hour it is the best!

Mile High Vienna Stand is still a good place for a dog in Denver, but has lost a bit of what made it great a couple years ago. The prices have gone way up and are a bit crazy for a hot dog and side items (outside happy hour). They moved a half block away into a new location which is bright and shiny and roomy. What was great about the original location is it was small and felt like so many joints in Chicago and NY. A clean, hole in the wall. Also, I came in 2 hours before close and the employees were cleaning the floor with Lysol. Not a great smell while you are eating. The same employee mopping the floor used the same gloves on her hands to fry my french fries.

I Love the Italian Beef! I go once every other week to get it. Everyone who works there is very friendly. The Spicy Giardiniera is so good on the sandwich but so is the sweet. I usually get one of each on the side. They give a baseball card with each kids meal and on the counter you can sometimes buy a pack of old school 1988 Donruss baseball cards. I have been going since they opened just a few years back and feel sure I will continue to frequent this Chicago style hot dog stand. Tony View: mhvs.biz/menu_beef.html Even better in person

Love. I am in love with this place. The dogs are great. The sausages are great. Their beef is great. What else could you want? There are a bunch of other hot dog places in the general vicinity, and while they offer more options, they just don't measure up. These guys keep it simple, and make it work. Go there. Get a Chicago dog. Don't even think about the ketchup. Be happy. Repeat.

This is a great place to go when I want that fix of Chicago Style dogs I remember from my brief time in the Chicago metro area as a kid. Fresh, cheap, and uncomplicated! Seating is a premium, though I have not had a problem anytime I've gone.

What is a clip of fries you may ask? It's what I load my gun with. Right off, this place is dope!! Walked in, greeted right away, menu right in front of me and easy to read. Smells freaking delicious in here! Already drooling..... I ordered the Italian Beef (in Denver) with sweet peppers, extra wet please. I wait in anticipation for what is to come. I watch the cooks work away in the kitchen, which I can see from my front row seat. People continue to walk in the door past me straight to the counter to order. I look around, the place is full, everyone is stuffing their faces with delight! This must be what a heroin addict feels like jones'n for their next fix. Larren! They call my name, I grab my order and speed home with the sweet smell of Italian beef teasing me the whole way. I get home and run straight into the house to devour the goodness that is soaking through the brown paper bag. OMG! Words fail me at first glimpse of this beautiful sandwich. From the first bite to the last, the juicy goodness explodes with flavor, I feel like I was transported to Chicago.

Yum!! I love Chicago style hot dogs and this place makes them really well! Now I've always been complaining about finding a place that does cheese fries well but this place has them!! They also do a really good Maxwell sausage with grilled onions. Overall, I'm so excited to have found a go-to hot dog place. Oh and also, every day from 3-5pm they have "Happy Hour" which means you can get a Chicago style hot dog and fries for $2.50. Amazing!

This place is a great stop if you want a real authentic Chicago dog or hot beef sandwich Can be both reasonably priced or kinda expensive depending on your menu choice I would prefer a cheaper dog with less fries but hey that's just me order the meal and you get a heaping amount of fries I also like looking at all the old sports memorabilia on the walls

Yes, a five star hot dog stand! This place actually delivers on the promise of the *other* Chicago hot dog place, located on Colfax in Lakewood. The place is clean, with just the right amount of Chicago city kitsch... the menu is professionally laminated over the counter, easy to read, and holy crap are the prices reasonable! I had the Chicago dog with a clip of fries for $3.25. The fries were hot and salty and crisp, and my hot dog was not so overloaded with toppings that I couldn't shove it in my mouth... Friendly service and also Mexican cokes and Izzy in the fridge. I can't wait to come back next week - its located on the same block as the Denver Urban Homesteading Indoor Farmers Market (held on Saturdays). I'm gonna get me some Hot Italian Beef.... just don't tell my boyfriend.

Never mind that I saw the book on the counter "Don't put ketchup on a hot dog", after I ordered my hot dog with ketchup. They didn't frown on me. The guy was very nice. The place is pro Chicago, clean, fast, friendly and cheap. They even have hot dog happy hour and parking.

This place is genius. It is up the street from Coors Field. So, you can go in there and get hot dogs, brats, etc for the game instead of having to buy the overpriced and under quality product inside the stadium. Good staff. I also signed up for their txt marketing and they send coupons via txt about 3 times a week.

I like hotdogs a little more than the average person, so I think that might give me an advantage of rating a hotdog stand. Great, addictive, to die for! One of those places that you pass daily and wonder why there are so many cars parked in the lot. Well I found out, it is the hotdog of my youth. You know the ones, all beef, mustard, relish, onions, dill pickle, tomatos and peppers. The "dogs" are made to order with all the good toppings and comes with a yummy clip of french fries. In addition, they serve beef sandwiches and homemade tamales. It's gastric nirvana Great friendly staff! The best is "Happy Hour Hot Dogs" See you there!!

The chili cheese dog with nacho cheese and fries is the best way to go. Plus you can get all this plus a drink for under $7 which is really good since it's downtown. It was a little hard to find but totally worth trying. My only complaint as that you get a free cheese sauce if you check in and I didn't receive this because the lady told me the cheese was free already with my meal but I wouldn't have minded having the extra cheese to dip my friend in.

  • Heidi S.

First off, the guy behind the counter was so stinking nice I thought he was the owner. What a nice guy. Really good hot dogs, with all the fixings and stuff on them. That neon green relish, every time I have it I try not to think about it too much since thousands of Chicagoans eat it daily and don't seem to glow. Love the old "Mile High" stadium trash can. So gotta try the Chicago Beef, I hear it is great! Go get your neon green food on!

Thankfully I remembered Mile High Vienna was on my way downtown today when I needed a quick bite. I just really didn't want to do the whole Taco Bell thing today. Ta da! I'm in, ordering a polish dog (skip the Sauerkraut though, thank you), fries and a cold drink. Quick and delish. Here's how I know for a fact that these folks know what they're doing: steamed buns. Yup. That's what sets the pros apart from the amateurs. No dry, fall-apart-while-you-pick-it-up bun here. I'm starting to get hooked on this place!

  • Jamie K.

I am a Chicago dog snob, and I don't believe you can have a Chicago dog without Vienna beef, but Vienna is in the name, so we are off to a great start! To get a quality lunch for under $5 love it! The only problem was I asked for a couple things off my hot dog and they still put in on it, so I had to pick it off.
