Update 11/11/13 Owner contacted me based on review (see below) and here's the message: "I am so sorry about your experience at Local. I have really been trying to coach the staff about breaking up the employee huddle and get out and make connections with the guests, this proves my point! I also apologize about the cold Bretzelwurst :( Do you live in Denver or NM? I would love to send you a gift certificate so you can give us another shot...? If that is of interest please send me your address so I can mail you a certificate. Thank you for your feedback." As we're not in Co very often I did not take up on the GC offer but do appreciate the business reaching out. We would give them another chance based on their mentioned efforts with the staff and of course the cool beer garden. __ Original Review 9/13 Could be a good neighborhood bar, and possibly the beer garden would make it better (raining hard when we were there so we skipped it), but the inside is a bit tired and sad. While the staff were friendly, they spent more time speaking with each other than tending to the few patrons in the joint. I have the impression they change the drink specials regularly. The "food" choices were pretty limited (frozen pizza or pretzel) and the pretzel dog my husband ordered was still frozen when delivered.

they no longer allow dogs! oh well...

OK Niya you win! We went back for the debut of the Biker Jim truck for dinner, and ended up hanging and drinking for a few hours at Local 46, the well booze they stock actually isn't too bad and the service was really great! I thoroughly enjoyed the hot pretzels and the little snacks on the table, we'll definitely be back, and not just because we can walk home. Also, the girls bathrooms are super fun, you can write all sorts of grafitti in chalk on the walls!

You have to check this place out! Cozy inside, and an AMAZING biergrarten! They have a few snacks on the menu, but they allow you to order food to be delivered from a variety of places! Brilliant way to include more of the neighborhood if you ask me. The staff are ALWAYS super friendly and welcoming, and most of the time, we don't even have to place our order. They know what we want before we can say it, and we don't waste any time waiting for beverages! Do yourself a favor and order a Moscow Mule from Drew... Delicious!!! Oh and, this is a great place for nightly entertainment. Seems like they always have something fun going on. They take good care of us, and that is why we will be forever fans of Local 46! Keep up the good work!!!

Staff yay! Friendly, quick service and no pretentious attitude. New patio yay! Music whether live or piped in, yay! Drinks yeh. Good array behind the bar, a little pricey for the neighborhood location. Food feh. They have pretzels = salt and gluten = increases your thirst and doesn't fill you up. Frozen pizza = the kind only to be had if you are desperately drunk and uber hungry. The "you can order in from other places" menu doesn't cut it in my opinion. The only thing that keeps us going there sometimes is the lack of food on sight. Other than that, a great local place. Oh and the Pump and Dump night is a must! Even if you don't have kids, it is a kick in the pants.

Needed a spot for As quick drink just before event at El Jebel. This spot was perfect. Super friendly service, good drinks, cozy atmosphere. I will return.

Really like this place. Huge improvement over the music bar - which even as a dive bar sucked. If you're in need of a nosh, i recommend the soft pretzel. Great big windows so i suggest checking it out during the day. Also, they allow dogs which is a big plus for us. In fact, i've only been there a couple of times without my dog. It makes for a laid back, cozy, friendly atmosphere. I recommend Local 46 highly One downside, we were hoping that activity wise they would have more than just pool tables (a couple of pinball games would go great in here) but nothing so far. Thankfully Rosa Mias down the street on 44th just re-opened with pinball and a couple of video games.

Pretentious staff, customers, and overpriced drinks. Wonder why I didn't stop going here sooner. I feel bad for the only good bartender here Drew, who know how to treat people. Abercrombie zombies welcomed....

This place has so much potential but it's a bit on the pricey side for the neighborhood - especially without having food. I would go back for happy hour, it looks like things are a little more reasonable at that point. But like another review said, $8 for a white russian is a bit much. The first time I was there I paid $9. It's a great addition to the neighborhood, and we'll definitely go back. Another pet peeve, I really HATE drink menus with no prices. As someone who likes to have more than 2 cocktails in any given night, I like to make sure I know how much I'm paying so as not to be surprised when I get my check. And it's really pretty awkward to have to ask how much cocktails/beers/wine cost each time you order a round. I will go back, but most likely only for happy hour. Or if there's a really great food truck there.

  • Jacqueline A.

Cool laid back vibe here. Checked out this place with a friend and liked the ambiance a lot. Dark retro interior with bartenders who are on top of things. Catch their eye and they're all over it to make sure your glass is filled or you've got your check if you're ready to head out. Will come back here again when in the 'hood.

Don't be fooled. Dirty, dingy, no food until 4:00.. Is that even legal?? Full of screaming kids running about.

This used to be my old stomping ground of music bar back in college. My friends had me meet here one night (I was like that corner sounds familiar). This place rocks, big windows, some new renovations-but the same bar/bar top which rocks. A lot of character from its formative years. Good music, people in a great mood and some cold beer-does a night just right. I'll be back again to relive the earlier years, with water in between and taxi....

  • Brad H.

Great outdoor space, cool concept. Drinks aren't the cheapest but there is usually something cool going on at night and you can't beat the patio when it's a nice day/night

27APR2013 The new beer garden patio is going to be GREAT! (It opens 10MAY) These purveyors are committed to the neighborhood and we thank them. 28APR 2012 What a change (from the previous inhabitant--The Music Bar). Windows to let in the afternoon sunshine. A brand new wood floor. Very friendly owners. The place was packed tonight (this afternoon) for their "soft" opening during Totally Tennyson.

This place got a great facelift years back. The music bar had its own appeal but the current management just improved upon and made it a little more friendly. The staff has always been pleasant. Yes, as others have mentioned, this is a dark bar. The patio is bright and inviting and huge so if you're not into the dark side you can mall walk right outside. There's ping pong, bocce, cornhole to keep you and your friends busy. The beer menu is decent and changes from time to time from what I remember. The food is dogs/burgers and finger foods on an outdoor grill. All around just fine. The only thing that really chaps me about this place is the damn kids. It's not all the time but occasionally there are so many children running amuck that you'd swear you're drinking at a McDonalds play land. That constant sound of high pitched screams mixed with tiny Velcro shoes smashing through deep gravel. I'm pretty sure the grand scheme was to make the place inviting to people with offspring and that's fine but in general these people start to not pay attention to what their kids are doing once they've had a few. I grew up going to the pool hall with my old man and I was allowed to play with cards at the bar. In a chair. Different time and place I guess.

Came here last night to celebrate the hubs dirty thirty. We arrived around 9 and there was ample parking out front and in the parking lot which was surprising because last time I came here it was a full house! I agree that it can feel a little divey but there are windows and the custom decor is a nice touch. We all got our drinks and headed out to the beer garden. Loooooved it! The ambience is perfect outside. There are games, fire pits, and plenty of seating outside. They also serve BBQ which smelled amazing. Can't wait to come back and enjoy the beer garden now that it's finally warm outside!

I fell in love with that back patio. It's so perfect for summer lounging. Prices are a little high for some of the cocktails ($12 for a Manhattan with Peach St. Bourbon? Really?), they seem to think that an Old Fashioned is made in a shaker (an Old Fashioned is never, ever shaken) and the draught beer selection is surprisingly thin (though still quite good) but I don't really care! Everything tasted delicious, the patio is incredible, the servers and bartenders are good folks, and the Local46 grill out back is churning out some unexpectedly tasty vittles for the "shack" it seems to be. The pulled pork tacos were nothing extra special, but somehow tasted grand. I really dug them. The sliders were unassuming on the plate but danced in my mouth. They were absolutely delicious, and I didn't expect it at all. I'm a Local46 believer without question. What a wonderful place to come and hang out and socialize, such a phenomenal backyard atmosphere. I already can't wait to go back.

Best patio in denver for sure, good food as well. They have crawfish boils a few times in the summer which is nice. Good for kids on their family Sunday's or anytime really. They have no smoking on the patio which is great I only wish everyone followed it. They have some local brewery selections always available on tap. Great spot, karaoke and bands often. Inside could be better but I like it still!

I feel like I need to go here and take some photos to update those on Yelp! ha! This is definitely a local hang out with a good vibe. We went on a Thursday night so we got to enjoy all the karaoke. Pool was free so we ended up playing a bit while hanging out. Being a dive bar (I think), it was sort of dead or half empty, however you want to look at it. I don't question that if you want to meet people here it is pretty easy to do. In fact, it seemed like everyone knew everyone else except us. If you live in the area and you're into that scene then it's a place you should absolutely look into. For me personally, if I'm on Tennyson then I will come here but I won't come to Tennyson for this place alone.

This is my new favorite spot in the Berkley hood! Awesome outdoor patio complete with ping pong, fire pits, shuffle board and a huge play area to drop your little ones if needed. They have live music quite a bit, which from my experience was great :) I'm sure I'll be back quite a bit this summer!

  • Erin B.

Worst bartenders in Denver, we went in for early drinks and our poor cocktail waitress seemed to be doing all the work, bussing, taking orders, even making drinks because the bartenders seemed useless. Love the patio but when the seasons over who would come here? Also, strollers taking up the pathway, babies everywhere, is this a bar or daycare? Good happy hour prices for sure but no unique beers, nothing hip or cool unless you have 4 kids and need to get drunk.

Local 46 is a small bar set apart from the main street area of Tennyson (in Denver's Berkeley neighborhood). I would not put it into the dive bar category... it's definitely too clean and has great decor. Plus... The beer garden is well thought out and a great place for outdoor drinking! The bartenders do a great job with the drinks and the prices are not as high as other places in the area. The service is very consistent: Glasses are cleared, servers check in to make sure that your needs are met and all is done with a smile. I'm a big fan of karaoke (watching and participating) which makes Thursday one of the best nights at Local 46!! Thank you Niya for your commitment to the neighborhood... We are so lucky to have you and Local 46 as staples!!

Awesome local bar with 80's cover bands that frequent on the weekends. The back patio is great in the summer with firepit a ping pong table and lots of seating. Bartenders are always friendly. Great local neighborhood joint to see live music and have drinks with friends.

After a fantastic day networking at a library conference, what can one possibly do to celebrate other than enjoy a pint with colleagues? Not a whole lot I say! And since Local 46 was new to our group, and within close proximity, we headed over to relax. Upon walking in for the first time, I immediately thought of the Skylark: a bit dark with a long bar top, several cozy spots throughout, and even a little stage. But that's about where the similarities end. Local 46 also has a huge patio: outdoor bar, picnic tables, fire pit, ping pong tables, and bocce ball! Sadly it was raining during our visit, but I was in love with the space. Aside from the cool space, indoors and out, Local 46 has a reasonably respectable small tap list. During our visit, I had an Upslope Lager, but I was tempted by Lone Tree's amber, which my coworker tried and loved. So hey, they had at least a half dozen local brews gracing the tap lines, so I'm a fan right there. After spending a few solid hours chatting and sipping beers, we noticed all types of people popping in: twentysomethings, thirtysomethings with kids, cyclists, and even a rough looking biker who insisted on singing songs to all the beautiful ladies. I had such a blast at Local 46! I so wish it were closer because I would be slinging back pints here way too frequently! So in short: awesome space, friendly service, cheap drinks, Colorado beer, badass patio! I'll be back as soon as humanly possible. Pro tip 1! Chalk and chalkboards in the bathrooms. So freaken' sweet. Pro tip 2! The 2014 Denver Passport can be used here! Boom!

Service is spotty. On a slow afternoon, I was basically ignored at the bar...ridiculous. This is in a great location with potential...the staff needs to get over their attitudes and 'coolness' and understand that the establishment is ultimately there to make money, through selling beverages, not being hipster snobs. Try being friendly and acknowledge patrons, even if you are busy!

Saw this place whilst walking down the street and decided to check it out. They have some cool drink specials (or did when we were there) and the staff were very friendly. The beer garden looked great, but it was raining and so we decided to stay inside.

  • Jason S.

The name says it all. Definitely a cool locals spot with a friendly staff and great happy hour specials. They also host different music and comedy events and have a lovely Biergarten out back. Watch for the Pump and Dump.

I've only been here for 20 minutes and I'm already impressed. Great beer selection, clean restrooms, cool bartenders. Kind of a hipster place - but I'm cool with that. Unique decor (totally awesome 70s style hanging lamps/ chandeliers), the seating is different and funky- super stoked they have a saison on tap. I will definitely be back. Great local watering hole- hoping for some live music tonight!! Did I mention the red-felted pool table? Kick ass.

This is my favorite bar in Denver. It is the most comfortable place to go by far! I would drive an hour just to hang out here. They have done a really beautiful job with it too. Last time I was there, they had a crawfish boil and it was amazing. The patio outside is unbeatable and the staff is as good as it gets!

    (5)
  • Melissa H.

While there might have been a hipster or two in here on our visit, we had a great time. This is a great spot to go if you're just looking for a drink and a no frills attitude. If karaoke is your thing, it was going on Thursday night during our visit. Thankfully it wasn't too loud :)

  • Kyla S.

Awesome local bar, with a really friendly staff. Also great back yard patio with great grilled food (not sure if they have food all the time- but we went on a Friday night and tried a little bit of everything, and it was all good).

  • Shannon D.

Really like this place. Great night life, and has a very diverse group of people within the bar. From older folks to 20's they are all here. I like that dogs are welcome in the bar. Though it sort of creeped me out seeing a chihuahua on the bar getting petted by the bar tender, who then started opening beers without washing their hands. Consider me a clean freak when it comes to people messing with the top of the beer bottles and cans. I show that food was not offered when the bar reopened. It is now--Though it is a thin crust frozen pizza. I say it works in a pinch, and it really isn't that bad. Overall it was a good night, with okay music. We look to go back in the future just to check out the music.

This is my new favorite bar. I have a problem going to a bar and just sitting and drinking. I like to talk, but when I'm out, I can't sit still. Local 46 solves that problem with pool, ping pong, and cornholing. All the activities are free, you just have to provide an ID to get the equipment. The outdoor patio closes at 10pm due to noise ordinances, so get there early if you want to hang out outside. I recommend checking out the patio - it's set up really well, and they have a couple cool fire pits. After the patio closes, they have live music or a DJ or karaoke. They seriously thought of everything. Also, they have a good craft beer selection and the cocktails I've tried have all been on point. Not to mention the bartenders are super friendly, and on slow nights they're down to chat. The food that we've tried has all been stellar. If they still have it, try the bison burger with blue cheese, and top it with the works. My friends and I were planning on sharing one burger, but ended up ordering one each. So good. That blue cheese. We'll definitely be back, especially since it's a bike ride away! (Plenty of parking and bike racks to boot!)

I have been here a few times and continue to like was I see. The last time I was there the band playing was a little to loud for the area inside, but luckily there is an amazing outside area for you to play in. Some of the best features are the back, you have so many activities; Bags, Flip Cup, Ping Pong, or good old fashion hanging out by a fire. The old down side last time was because only 2 bags on each color didn't leak like sieve. One other thing to note is there outside does have to close by 11pm because of how close they are to the neighbors, but no problem go inside or bike home for more enjoyment.

If service is a part of drinking, then they do a disservice to the liver, CNS, and veins! Bad service, horrid drinks from the swine of Fleet Street London, 1856. Worst Bloody Mary my lips have ever sneered at.

    (1)
  • Kelly L.

The Biergarten here is an absolutely amazing place to hang out on a sunny Denver day. I enjoyed two cocktails made with local whiskeys and my husband enjoyed the craft beer selection. They also have corn hole and (I think) ping pong in the Biergarten. The service was good and the bartenders were helpful, but the live band was too loud and the inside was too warm.

    (4)
  • Michelle P.

Fun. I love the Biergarten (beer garden) - it is huge and set up with lots of seating, fire pits & shuffleboard and games. A great time with friends. Usually have live music.

  • Lindy L.

Great atmosphere and a neighborhood kind of place with a pool table. Full, but not too crowded on a Saturday night. There was also a band and no cover. I wish that they served food, but I've often seen a food truck parked out front. No food truck when I was there, but I did see a menu from a nearby restaurant. They also had a variety of Chex mixes to snack on, including a spicy one, so maybe I shouldn't focus so much on the no food. Very friendly owner's mom. I really like this place.

This place is great for kids on Sundays! They have kid music, face painting and adult beverages.

I loved this place. The patio was so nice, people friendly not overly hipster. Honestly I just had beer and one of their pretzels, which was perfect for the laid back night we were looking for.

Diggin Local 46. It's a bars bar and don't get it twisted. Go in and order a beer, listen to live music and enjoy the toilet seat art work.

I live in the neighborhood yet barely even noticed this place had changed from Music Bar. Now, as Local 46, like other reviews noted here, has new flooring and big windows at the front to let some light in. The owners are super nice--used an ATM on site that screwed up and he went out of his way to make sure I wasn't doubly charged and that I was happy with my visit. Didn't eat, but enjoyed the bar. They have a variety of Local 46 recently hosted the Sunnyside Music Festival Battle of the Bands in their corner parking lot. The crowd was fun and good service from Local 46 staff. They host karaoke nights, frequently have live music, and boast happy hour specials. Seems like a locals spot, but with so many Denverites flocking to live in the Highlands/Berkeley/Sunnyside areas, it's sure to become a popular locale. Check it out!

  • Steve M.

Wonderful community watering hole! From the unique decor inside to the remarkable, one-of-a-kind Biergarten, the ambiance alone kills it here. The staff is conversational, attentive, and have been known to take drink building to a level of alchemy. You want an Aviation? Ask. Flaming Homer? Perhaps... The spirits run the gamut of oft-enjoyed blue collar well liquor and beer, to mindfully chosen higher end offerings, including a wealth of locally produced libations. This is a definite end point for First Friday art walks, as well as the bar stool you amble up to after mowing the lawn, still sporting grass stains and a faint odor of gasoline. The music varies depending on the day or night, but often helps galvanize the mood of the moment - each barkeep deftly dj-ing their shift with an essence of personal flair. There are community potlucks, nights for both karaoke and open mic, and they love well-behaved dogs (during the week): They ply your pooch with water that originated as the dew from angels' breasts, and serve it in a jewel-encrusted bowl. Okay, I totally fabricated the dog treatment, but the service IS regal without being stuffy for both humans and canines. Oh, and DRINK SPECIALS... Get your drink on the cheap every night. Single-digit, multiple drink bar tabs are always a possibility. This is the point where you actually go there and experience it for yourself. Non pretentious, socio-economically equalizing fun!

Love this place. Fun vibe, clean, good service and drinks. Live music was good, and the patio is awesome!

I didn't think much of the indoor space, but loved the outdoor space, the fact that they had wine tasting the night we were there, and they made us some nice strong drinks!

Overall I can't wait to go back to Local 46. The outside patio is amazing! Beautifully lit at night, spacious, and a great location. However, I won't be sitting inside. I don't think I could eat or drink as the interior of this place smells like moldy dish rag. So, my recommendation is to go and sit outside, get their "gutter" special (5 beers for $8) play some bocce ball and order some food in!

  • Tracie B.

I never visited the original Music Bar pre-Local 46 because you could fairly accurately see what it had to offer from the outside and frankly I'm not a big dark bar kinda gal. Local 46 post renovation is a huge improvement over its predecessor but still have the big dark bar vibe with a much nicer atmosphere. The great news is that the large outdoor patio is is terrific. On a warm day, the patio is a great place for a frosty beer. The staff are very friendly. Also, I recently attended a baby shower at Local 46 - yup, a baby shower. Best baby shower ever!
