Great restaurant! The wait is typically pretty short even on busy nights, and service is very fast. The outdoor patio is lovely in good weather. Definitely get the green chile. Veggie fajitas come with soooooo many great veggies - not just the standard onions and bell peppers. I usually order a combo meal so I can get a little of a few things. The burrito, enchilada, relleno combo is my favorite. Margaritas are good, but I've had better. If you order guac as an appetizer, be aware that the serving size is gigantic.

On a Friday you can always expect a short wait but that shouldn't stop you from coming here! The service is always great. The last week the salsa was spicy which I really enjoyed. I didn't remember it being spicy the prior visits. The food came out within five minutes of ordering which I loved. I ordered a cinco. I got the crispy chile relleno because, let's face it, what's not to love about a cheese-stuffed, fried chile? Also, they didn't upcharge me for turning the bean burrito into a beef burrito. Their combos don't come with beans and rice but it's a large enough portion of food you may not need them. Plus afterwards I went to Microcenter to pick something up. Win on the location too!

Pretty good place all in all. The food is tasty, filling, plentiful, and has always been spot on. The drinks are tasty as well, and decently strong margaritas are always a welcome surprise. Price is a BIT on the upper end of things for a Mexican place, but not really an issue, more of an observation. Not my favorite place in town, but it's up there. Been here multiple times, will continue to be back.

We've eaten here the last two weeks after my kids get done playing sports across the street. So far, it's been very consistent with service and food. The place always looks packed but we've never had to wait. The staff seems friendly and not short handed, which makes for speedy service. The salsa is on the hot side, which we like but he kids not so much, and they're generous with refills of both chips and salsa. I've had the Patron Margarita both times and it's very good . Kids meals are generous. We've had the bean/cheese burrito, cheese quesadilla, hot dog, and grilled cheese. Kids were happy. Burritos are generous and good and I had the combination plate last time and really liked it. Price is right, service is good, and food was yummy. We'll be back next week.

Eh Mexican food. Crazy Margarita's. The food isn't anything special. Their "house margarita" is downright gross (in my opinion). But their El Jefe margarita tastes great and will knock you on your a$$.

Margaritas and good Mexican food, what else could this tourist ask for? I stumbled upon this place 2 years ago when I was in town for a Broncos game and have made it a point to visit each time I am in town. They have some of the best Mexican food that I have ever tasted and this is coming from a guy who's family is half Mexican. The salsa and fish tacos are my favorites. They also have a daily happy hour where you can get a 12oz house margarita for $4. And let me tell you, they are delicious. The service here is also excellent and very fast given the amount of people that are here in a continuos basis. I have seen the popularity of this place boom since the last time I visited til now. If you are craving some good authentic Mexican food and margaritas, definitely steer you ship on down to la fogata.

I tried La Fogata for the first time last night with my family and had a great time. They have a great patio although we opted for an indoor table. There are great booths near the back of the restaurant with huge windows so you feel like you're eating outside. Everyone enjoyed the chips and salsa that we're brought to the table and we were all impressed at how attentive the waiters were to refill them when they got low. The food was pretty good overall. Between us we ordered fish tacos, steak fajitas, the grilled burrito, and garlic butter shrimp. The restaurant was very accommodating with dietary restrictions and the food came out super fast! The portions were also huge! It's a solid spot if you're looking for good Mexican food in the area!

I like La Fogata. We went to their Evans location several months ago. Their salsa is delicious, just the right amount of tomato-y spiciness. Our server was friendly and kind. He brought me a delightfully refreshing cucumber martini. I had the beef fajitas. They were a little overcooked, but a good flavor. The portion was quite large, though. Their green chili is good, from the taste I had from my husband's meal. It's the good New Mexican green chili (as opposed to Colorado green chili which has too much tomato for my taste).

I like the chimi changas not but the tamales are great too. Great happy hour. I recommend the margaritas.

3 out of the 4 times we've been here we've ended up with the same rude waiter. As much as I like La Fogata I dread being seated in this guy's section. I think his name is Otheon or something like that but he is not attentive or nice. The fastest service we get from him is when he runs our credit card. But the hostess is sweet, the location is convenient , and the food is semi-tasty. Too bad for this guy. Also, the house margs are a bit inconsistent. Sometimes they're a almost all sweet and sour, other times heavy on the tequila. I prefer it somewhere in the middle.

This is my favorite Mexican food restaurant! I have been going here with my family for years. The chips and salsa are delicious. The salsa is chunky and flavorful. I think that the service is really awesome. My water or soda is never empty and my chip basket is always full! I love the cinco combination. That includes a rellano, cheese enchilada and a burrito. I usually upgrade my burrito to a beef burrito. I also think that the juevos rancheros are really good!

We were so excited to have some good Mexican food, but this restaurant does not live up to the current 4 star rating. The service was great. No issues with the friendly staff. The chips and salsa started off the night. The salsa was quite hot. We couldn't eat it. Granted, we cannot handle our spicy foods, but this salsa was really hot. So, we asked for Pico de gallo. The pico was about two parts onion and one part tomatoes. It didn't taste too bad, but the onion was dry, as was the tomato. My wife ordered Fajitas and I ordered Chicken Mole (I love good mole). The fajitas were brought out with all the sizzling fanfare. The first think we noticed was the thin sliced chicken. I have never seen thin sliced chicken in a Mexican restaurant. The next thing I noticed was not the steam coming off the fajitas, but the smoke coming off the plate. By the time the plate stopped smoking, there was nothing but charred food. We aren't talking lightly charred, we are talking the type of char you get if you bake a dish in your oven and it spills over on the base of the oven so it smokes profusely. So much so that the entire plate of food tastes like it was cooked in a smoke-filled, 5 alarm house fire. The mole was below average. It lacked the zest that other moles have. The food wasn't good. Even Hacienda beats this place. Sorry, I love Mexican food and I have had far better at food carts.

Under-seasoned food, un-imaginative menu, food too fast to be fresh. You must be able to get better Mexican food than this in Denver.

  • Jason W.

The salsa here isn't super flavorful, but it is very spicy and has a nice kick. I had a combination that was ok at best, with a taco, enchilada, and chili rellano. What is really spectacular at this restaurant is the service. Our glasses were never empty, we never had to wait, and everyone was very friendly. If you need a Mexican food fix and appreciate great service, this is the place.

Fun atmosphere and pretty good food. It's not my favorite in the area, but I do stop in often for a good meal.

I have driven past this place for many years - guess it was time to give it a try. Came in around 4pm on a Friday - place was empty. Got seated and waited on in no time flat. The staff was personable and even borderline chipper! They were attentive without being hovering - translation you could tell they were paying attention because when I needed something they were there. I ordered the Burrito Adobada - it was the perfect size for a nice meal - and tasty. The green chili had the right heat for me. Overall a pleasant experience. Kudos!

  • David P.

We love this place! One of the few places the kids don't mind coming either. The chips and salsa rock as do the house margaritas! I have not found anything on the menu that I did not like. The staff has always been very friendly everytime we have been here. Keep up the good work and the amazing food!

I stopped in here on my way to a CPR class. I didn't have a lot of time and was by myself so I sat at the bar. I like the staff here almost as much as at the original on Evans. I had one of my favorites things there... Bean burrito smothered in green chile. I know it sounds simple, but they make great beans. The green chile is vegetarian as well, which I really like.(unless of course you order it as a plate, then they add slow roasted pork carnitas... damn!) I was in and out quickly but I saw the staff recognize at least 3 of the parties that came in while I was there. They called them by name and were very friendly, the sign of a great neighborhood place.

Absolutely delicious. I ordered their carne adobada and it was out of this world. They also have a fun atmosphere and delicious magaritas.

A family favorite of ours! Fresh, delicious Mexican food! Feel free to practice Spanish with the staff, they are always patient! It gets crowded Fri and sat so be ready to wait but always worth it!

My husband and I have been here twice. I'm from Texas and I like to think I am a good judge of Mexican food. I loved both meals I had here, except for the ground beef, which I'm picky about. My husband thought one meal was ok and the other good. Staff is great!

  • Theresa C.

This is our favorite Mexican spot. Food is authentic and prices are reasonable. Strawberry margaritas are so good. Chicken nachos, chicken quesadilla, and pork carnitas are a must try. Good service and not long of a wait. Seems to be around 7:30 for a Friday. But I guess people here go to dinner early. About at our 7th time here, a couple of us got stomach aches. This place is s turn off for us now. We'd probably won't come back. :( we'll venture out more.

    (3)
  • Cindy C.

The margaritas are good. 4 of us were pretty tipsy after one pitcher. The food used to be excellent, and we used to go at least once a week, but it started going downhill a few years back, so we don't eat there anymore.

  • Ankur S.

This is a very good restaurant. Their guacamole is to die for. They do good with the vegetarian dishes as well. Their portions are quite large, hence we typically end with leftovers. Moreover they give a lot of food for the price - no complaints there. This is a very good restaurant. The parking is quite tight on weekend nights.

This is one of my weekly visits. A great friend of mine is vegetarian and this restaurant has a vegetarian chili. How cool is that?! My favorite is the chili relleno. The ambiance is wonderful and the staff is quick and efficient.

This is definitely a friendly neighborhood place. The decor is cute without being corny (I have yet to attempt the patio, but it looks nice), the service is always great (another review mentioned attentive but not hovering) the drinks are good, the salsa and chips flow and the food is decent, heartily portioned and reasonably priced. Good, not excellent food. Worth a stop if you're in the area and looking for Mexican food.

Definitely some of the better margs in town!! Love that they don't over do it with cheese. All very tasty! Good service

Love me some fajitas, and LOOOVE this La Fogata! Unlike its cousin in north Thornton, this La Fogata is an expansive standalone restaurant off Quincy. You're greeted promptly by a friendly hostess in their cozy entry, and when my girlfriends and I arrived for brunch recently, we had our pick of comfy high backed booths and tns of space despite the fact they were busy on that Snday morning. I enjoyed their chips and salsa. Know some folks would prefer salsa that's more traditional, but I like their thick, liquidy, smoky salsa with just enough cilantro. I had steak fajitas which were cooked just right - the steak had a nice char but was still tender and pink on the inside. Veggies were crisp, but the onions had that nice carmelization that I'm such a sucker for. I never hurt for tortillas - our server brought plenty! And, my iced tea glass never went empty. I even took leftovers home!

I received my beverage and chips and salsa pretty timely and my order literally came out within 2 minutes. This is great but my food was not even hot and the cheese in my enchilada was not even melted AT ALL. I took a few bites of my burrito and Chile relleno. My waiter disappeared and never came by to see how things were. Couple of the other staff running around looked at me a few times oblivious that I needed help. 20 minutes flew by and finally had to hunt down the hostess to give me a TO GO box and my check. I calmly told her I was unhappy with my experience and said if I like the other location then I should go to that one from now on.

Love this place and have been going to years. Good happy hour and love the margs. The staff is very friendly. The food is good and the kids love there choice for kids meals. Good portions. Love the fact that they always have fresh jalapenos. (never to spicy!)

  • Jeremy T.

Tried this place once and the service was a little slow but it was a Friday night so we opted to try again on a Tuesday. Very quick seating, chips and hot sauce were excellent but then we started looking at the menu. There is no separate menu for gluten free and the server was only able to point out three options for gluten-free. The chicken, steak, and ground/shredded beef are all marinated in a mixture that contains gluten. Very disappointing since that seems like an optional ingredient. That leaves fish as the only option. The food was still tasty but the severe limitation of gluten free options means that we will probably never come back here.

  • Laura G.

Service was excellent...very attentive wait staff. Our drinks were never empty and food came out fast. Salsa is spicy but good and the house margarita is pretty strong! Would definitely come back here.

Good food, but even better margaritas!!! I had the 901 Margarita - which is Justin Timberlke's tequilla. It is one of my favorite tequilla's and the margarita that La Fogata made with it rocked my world! I got the large size and boy oh boy! Be careful if you are expecting to drink this by yourself and make sure you don't plan on driving afterwards! It was strong and oh so tasty. I can't stand when margaritas are too sweet, I actually like to taste my tequlla - and La Fogata did this PERFECT! One of the best I have ever had in my life! I will go back simply for the margaritas! The food was average. The queso appetizer was slightly on the bland side and needed more texture (i.e. tomatoes, onions, etc.). I ordered the fish tacos. They had good flavor but were a tad greasy. My husband had the mole enchiladas, which he did not enjoy. I tried them and they were very bland. No spice, no chocolate flavor. Very boring. Service was good and prices reasonable.

  • Abby Q.

This is right by my best friend's place, so it's a great location to walk to and get sauced on margaritas without having to drive anywhere. The margs are strong and the food is good, although it did come out scarily fast. I'm pretty sure it was pre-made on a plate and they threw it in a microwave or something. There's really no other explanation for how fast that food came out. The salsa was freaking delicious, though, and the prices weren't bad. I will definitely be back here for some tequila induced shenanigans!

We have eaten at this restaurant (on Quincy) many times, and it never disappoints! It is our go-to for Mexican food, and the service, quality of food, and atmosphere is the best! We decided to use them to cater a party of 40+ people, and again, they did not disappoint! We ordered cheese enchiladas, green chile, rice, beans, and tacos al carbon. Not only was the food incredible, they provided all the serving utensils, and chafing dishes for all of the food (which if you rent cost about 17.00 per chafing dish). They also included salsa, fresh guacamole, and the fresh and grilled onions, tomatoes, and cilantro was all given to us in lovely, ceramic dishes. Most restaurants send the catering in big, white buckets, not La Fogata. This place has won us over. After we picked up the food, we got a call from the restaurant apologizing profusely that they forgot to include the (fresh) corn tortillas, which they delivered to our house.

I'm definitely not a fan. I've been to this location twice and have been underwhelmed by the food as many times. I felt the service was very friendly. On my first visit, it was with a group of friends for Happy Hour. There are decent HH specials and the margaritas were excellent. With drinks flowing, the HH priced food was ok, but I didn't expect much. The second time, I came with coworkers to celebrate a birthday by having lunch here. This was where I was really underwhelmed. I felt the food quality was poor, and lacked any flavor. I enjoy eating and I ate maybe 1/4 of my meal and did not ake the rest home. I won't be back.

I was shocked to walk into this place on Friday night and have to push my way up to the hostess stand. Given the location (in the middle of a strip mall parking lot), I wasn't expecting to see a huge turnout. But I was given a buzzer and told the wait for 3 was 45 minutes. Good thing I really came here for the margaritas... I managed to snag us a couple seats at the bar and proceeded to order some house margs. The hype is accurate - these babies are gooood. I'm a bit of a frozen margarita snob, but looking around it was clear the rocks version was the favorite, so I followed suit. I didn't regret my decision for a second. Two of these guys was more than enough, and at $6 each, that is not a bad deal at all. I am bummed all they had for a salad on the menu was a taco salad. (Hint people, a taco salad is NOT good for you just because it tries to claim salad in its name). I ordered the fish tacos and asked for a side of lettuce, tomato, and black beans in an attempt to make my own salad. It was more like a giant plate of fish with a couple bites of lettuce on top, but the fish was good none the less. I live one minute from here so I'll be a frequent customer. I was scared Texas spoiled me and I wouldn't be able to find a good margarita here, but my worst fear has been alleviated.

Obviously people in this neighborhood either don't know what Mexican food is suppose to taste like or they are more worried about the margaritas than the food. Terrible food and even worse service. I know there aren't many choices for good Mexican food in this area, but it's not worth eating at this place either.

    (1)
  • Sarah K.

Disappointed. Guacamole had strange taste and the pork green chili sauce was not good, was glad I asked for it to be on the side rather than on top of my carnitas. Carnitas were ok. Not planning on going back.

I went to this place on Sunday 21st April and met friends for late lunch. It's around 3 pm and only few tables are occupied. They have a huge seating area inside the restaurant and with excellent patio seating. We ordered house margarita and served in quick time and it's been long time I had the margarita. Chips and salsa are served as soon as we are seated and the portions are good with multiple refills. We ordered Chicken Enchiladas with rice and beans and veggie burrito supreme and chili rellenos. The food is fresh and awful. The portions are in great size and we didn't finish up the veggie burrito and picked the left over's with togo box. The order is fast and no issues with the waitress. The place is friendly and clean and had some Mexican authentic paintings on the walls left to the main door. Enjoyed my lunch!!!!

  • Maya G.

Tasty, hearty food and friendly, attentive service. Despite being crowded on a Friday night, we didn't have a wait to be seated or served. The house salsa is spicy and very good with homemade chips. The chicken nachos were delicious!

  • Jose D.

Its average Mexican Food. Order the chicken fajitas which came out sizzling hot with flour tortillas. They kinda burnt the onions and bell peppers they were burnt and black. Tasted like burnt veggies. The chicken had flavor but dam they burnt my veggies. Friend of mine got the mix chicken and beef and didn't have he's veggies burnt. He said they were average nothing to rave about.. This place does need to upgrade on there refried beans..tasted bland little bit salty.. But this place does smell good inside..

Nicely remodeled, although the old was fine too. Best Margs in Town... hands Down! Best Salsa in town... Hands down! Always busy in here, which I find good.

  • Courtney C.

While the hostess was nice and brought out chips and salsa, that was about it in terms of personable service. The waiter barely said two words to us and left as quickly he came. The food wasn't bad but it could have been better. The chicken mole sauce was too bitter and lacked flavor. Overall disappointed in this place, I won't be back anytime soon.

This has been in our monthly rotation for almost two years now. The food is very consistent and reflects what I consider to be front range Mexican food. Service is always great. They keep the chips and salsa topped which is nice. My wife give it five stars, I would if I saw some menu items change maybe seasonly.

  • Art J.

Ate here on a Thursday night around 7pm. Food was very reasonably priced. Staff service was polite, fast, and attentive. The table salsa was spicy and delicous. Had the shredded beef nacho's as an app which were good. Had the chimichanga entree it was good as well came with a generous portion of sour cream.and guac. There guac is excellent reminds me of Chipotle only better. I would go back next time I am in the area.

This place has the BEST ENCHILADAS in Denver i have had so far. The best enchiladas are the cheese and bean enchiladas with red sauce. Their red sauce is the best sauce ever. La Fogatas chips and salsa are also the best. Their best appetizer item is their bean dip which is amazing also. This restaurant is the best mexican food in Denver and probably in Colorado.

  • Joe J.

Very good food and service was awesome! We had everything from carne asada burritos, flautas, smothered burrito adobada, rice and beans. ALL GOOD!!! Prices, value awesome as well! Only reason for not giving the 5th star, the tortilla chips were way too salty, so not 100% perfect... But other than that, great job. We will be back, our daughter just moved around the corner from here. Happy hour menu looks great too.

I would review the food and service but i never had any. Walked in Sunday October twenty sixth at around 1 pm. no greeting, no service. waited for someone to seat us,... and ...nothing. the bartender saw us sitting waiting to be seated and walked up to the hosts, but instead of letting them know their were guests, he just started having a casual conversation with them. so we walked out. pretty irritating. first time it has happened to me anywhere. don't think il give this place a second chance after that experience.

Felt like Mexican after work in north DTC. La Fogata II fit the bill. Met a friend for happy hour, which runs daily from 4 to 7 p.m.. Can't argue with $3.50 house margaritas, right? We each had a couple margs and Combinacion Tres (bean tostada, smothered ben burrito and cheese enchilada). It was a good dining experience. The location right off I-225 is convenient. It was moderately busy on a Tuesday night. Service was very good. Our table was cleared of plates regularly, water refills were automatic and our dinner was served quickly. I'd be down to meet my happy hour buddy here again sometime.

After a day of failed plans I drive by this place and decied to give it a try. I had been to the Thornton location when they opened several years ago and it wasent good, but a different location and some years I would give it a whirle. I came at 11:15am and was only the 2nd table the whole time I was there. Not sure if that is a good sign. the 1st thing I noticed was how beautiful the furniture was. The dark wood really makes the place seem upscale. The food is pretty good. Big fan of the salsa. It looked different, kind of creamy, but it was spicy and delcious. I ordered the mole` enchaladas. The plate was huge enough for 2 meals. 3 enchalads stuffed to the brim with shreaded chicken and beans and rice. The mole` was good sweet and spicy and not bitter.my only complaint was the over kill of onions they used for the garnish, they were pretty potent. All in all I really want to go back especially in the warmer months... they have a huge patio.

Friday night at 5:30pm and we were seated after waiting only 30 seconds. The chips and salsa arrived in less than a minute. The chips were crispy and fresh-corn tasting. The salsa had almost a creamy consistency and the spice level was a solid medium. After ordering, our food arrived in less than 5 minutes. It was extremely good. The enchilada sauce and cheese used had a great flavor to it. Lots of crisp lettuce and fresh diced tomatoes all over my plate in the right spots. Our overall dining experience was excellent. Plan to go again

We went here on Friday 29MAR13 and met friends for dinner. We love the house margaritas and chips and salsa and the great happy hour deals. The food is good and priced well, but it does come out fairly quick. Lets be honest, Mexican food is fairly simple as much of the items are prepared beforehand. Rice and beans made in large quantities is easy. Many of the meats are simmered and seasoned and takes moments to throw together in tortillas and smother in pre-prepared sauces. So I highly doubt the food sits on plates awaiting the microwave as one Yelper suggested. The grilled items will take a little longer, obviously, and are delicious, if a bit grisly. Especially the pork. I will, however, express my dissatisfaction with a new server named Teresa whose English is abysmal and tried to make me buy their most expensive margarita when I only wanted the house marg. at happy hour prices. She only smiled and nodded while her eyes told me she understood almost nothing we asked of her. Oh boy. Go back to being a cute bobble head on the dash board, por favor. Bottom line: decent food at good prices. NOTE: Do not sit in the west wing of the restaurant around sundown as the waning sunset beams directly into your eyes! Ow. The shades do not help.

Happy Hour is the time to arrive. A little chilly to sit on the patio so we went inside. First of all, amazingly fast service. Water and chips & salsa appear on your table in a blink of the eye. The beer is inexpensive and the happy hour food is sized right for sharing and tastes very good. I need to go back for dinner sometime.

This place is our go-to staple for reasonably priced delicious Mexican food. The staff is always super friendly and the food is great. My daughter goes crazy for the kids nachos. The shrimp fajitas and tacos el carbon are our favorites. The portions are perfect for kids and adults. Do not skip the refried beans. They are the absolute best ever!

The huevos con chorizo are fantastic. I first tried La Fogata a couple months ago and now this place is a staple every time I come to town. It's yummy and very affordable.

Great food for the price. I had the enchilada combo 1 chicken 2 cheese $8. Service is fast. The portions are a great size and usually leave with a togo box. I did have a frozen margarita here before and it was stronger than most places i go to. So strong i had my server put more strawberry mix in to dilute the alcohol (im weak i know) lol. Anyways its usually my place to eat if im out shopping around the DTC area or Micro Center.

We liked the grilled chicken breast salad and pollo asado. Enchilada was never my favoriate so I don't know how well they did it. They are all below $10. Fajita is still my favoriate Mexican (or Americanized Mexican) food and it costs about $15 or $16 at La Fogata. The margarita was also very good. The waitress was a little pushy though.

We went for HH before the Super Bowl. The service is great and the family that owns this are very nice folks. We just ordered a pitcher of Margaritas, the shredded beef nachos plus we ate plenty of chips and salsa. The drinks are not strong but the three of us had a slight buzz. I had mentioned we were celebrating my sons and brothers birthday and low and behold one of the owners dauhters brought out a huge sopapilla with honey for us to share. That was very nice. My family use to go to La Fogata when it was on Evans and Holly. The good old days you know.

The service here is amazing, the food is consistently good. Try the shrimp cocktail or the pork carnitas. Chips and salsa are good. We come here once a month and are constantly surprised by how they keep improving. Staff is driven to succeed--congratulations to management! One of the best service restaurants ever.

Anyone that knows me, will tell you that my life generally consists of yelp, reality tv and MEXICAN food. i'm clearly obsessed :) In meeting a friend for lunch last week, i decided i better use the advice of my trusted yelpers to see what was yummy before stepping foot in, and my tastebuds were drawn to the sound of the chimi's listed in Cindy B's review...and only one word describes them:YUM. -portions=huge. i took so much home after! -margs=to die for. had the traditional marg and left with a buzz and a smile. -service=so nice and friendly. -homemade quac=amazzzzzinngggg. overall, my experience=worthy of a return :)

I used to love this place. The service was great on my last trip but the food was sub par and was Luke warm. It looked and tasted as though it had been nuked in the microwave. I was very disappointed as this used to be a favorite of mine.

Great service makes the food better. But this place has great food and great service to make it that much better. This was my first time visiting here and I will go back. The fajitas are outstanding and they cook it like you ask them to. Go here if you want good Mexican with great service.

Everyone that comes to Colorado expects great mexican food. Thankfully my family has La Fogata to come to. It's reliable, delicious, and impresses the out-of-towners each and every time! Even without visitors, we frequent La Fogata on a weekly basis. My mom loves the Happy Hour specials from 4-7 everyday where you can get an amazing quesadilla at half the price! On other occassions you can find us chowing down sizzling fajitas, Mexican hamburgers, and chili rellenos. In all honestly nothing I ever have had here disappoints. One of my favorite things about La Fogata that sets it apart from other Mexican places is the ambiance. You won't find the cliche adobe art on the wall or mariachis singing at the top of their lungs looking for a good tip. Instead, you get an open and airy space (with excellent patio seating too) that doesn't give off a vibe of trying too hard to appear "authentic." The servers are all very friendly, attentive and want to make sure you're always happy. There's not too many other Mexican places around the area and with this being as good as it is, there is no need!

This place is a favorite of co-workers for a little margarita-with-your-lunch-time on Fridays. Apparently, this is the only day and place that this practice is acceptable. If it's any other restaurant or any other day, drinking at lunchtime is generally frowned upon. I most recently did just this with two other co-workers. They have tasty (by tasty I mean garlicky and cilantroey) salsa for the chips as well as a good variety of combination platters. I went for one with a chili rellano, cheese enchilada, guacamole tostada, and usually a beef taco (but they let me sub rice and beans). We also got a margarita pitcher to share as it was the most economical choice. The margaritas here are pink but have a pretty standard sweet and sour taste. Fine, but they're not super strong (which is probably a good thing). Food is fine for a place like this. The chili rellano isn't overly greasy and the guacomole tostada was also cilantro-loaded....probably my favorite meal component. Beans were pasty. Service was fine. Not my favorite Mexican and margaritas ever, but not the worst....and certainly not the worst thing Friday midday. They have a nice looking patio but get there before 11:30 if you want a seat.

La Fogatas (at the DTC location) is one of our favorite restaurants. The restaurant itself is very clean and inviting, with a large patio perfect for relaxing with friends. Additionally, the service is always friendly and attentive. Our favorite server is Jamie; as he is very knowledgeable about the menu and his suggestions are always spot on. He never forgets to check on how our meal tastes (which are fresh and hot, always!) and our drinks are never empty. After you enjoy the fresh chips and wonderful salsa (we always ask for two servings of salsa because the tangy spiciness is so delicious), try their house Margarita. You won't find one like it anywhere in Denver! My boyfriend is a fan of their Pork Carnitas, and I really like the Steak Fajita Burrito (another one of Jamie's suggestions), but a healthier option is the Grilled Fish Tacos. The fish is always light and tender and the sauce they serve it with is the perfect combination. If you want to stay on the lighter side, they have a fantastic happy hour with great drink and appetizer specials. This place is always consistent and never disappoints, if you haven't been there your missing out!

Good patio, quick service, pretty good salsa, so so food Group team luncheon. We arrived pretty close to high noon and they were still happy seat us at one of the big tables on the patio! Our chips and salad arrived right quick - and 2 baskets for the table with multiple re-fills! Woot! I got the shrimp taquitos - the presentation was nice, but the flavor was lacking. Nothing spectacular. There was a mexican hamburger on the table that looked amazing - nothing i could ever get myself to order - but wow, the cheese, tortilla, hamburg, cheese, cheese, cheese - wow! Quick lunch close to work, but nothing spectacular!

My husband and I love this restaurant. The service is fast and friendly. The margaritas are some of the best in Denver, they have a mix that is delicious and the pitcher is a great deal, it comes with two extra glasses full of margs. Refills of drinks, chips, and salsa come quickly. Their food is served freakishly fast but that's a good thing when you're starving and/or have children with you. We used their catering for a recent event and were very pleased with the service and quality of the food.

Solid 3-star experience. Had a lunch meeting with a colleague, and we needed a place in a mutually convenient location. I live right by La Fogata, but often go to the other outlet on E Evans. This location has a nice, airy environment on the outskirts of a strip mall at the top end of the Tech Center. Chips & Salsa delivered, drink orders taken. We asked for gauc: not the best I've tried. I ordered the shredded burrito supremo, an overstuffed platter smothered with green chili, cheese and a side of sour cream. The beef did not have much seasoning. I felt like it was missing something. My partner had the fried cod tacos. His verdict was "OK, but I should have ordered the grilled Tilapia." Nice space, so so food.

Full disclosure: I'm a gringo. La Fogata has a bunch of good food and great service. We live nearby and frequent it. Some highlights: Sopa de Frijoles is a great comfort food. It's a huge portion of pinto bean soup served with rice inside. We add beef or chicken, avocado and cheese. Definitely puts you back on your feet (or the couch for a nap). I've heard good on their other soups, but need to get around to trying them. Huevos con Chorizo is light on the chorizo and highlights their green chile. Served with rice, beans and tortillas, it's a big meal. Their Especialidades menu section is mostly marinated meats, and I like them all: Carnitas, Carne Asada(!), Carne Adobada, even Barbarcoa which is milder. The refried beans are excellent, and they pass the green chile test (good enough to eat as a meal with tortillas). Their salsa is good also. Quesadilla Supreme is great, we prefer with steak. Not a challenging menu, but tasty food, good portions, great service and a nice place. Incidentally, the location was previously occupied by several restaurants that failed; the difference is La Fogata has GOOD FOOD. A couple lower lights (not awful, but you'd do better to choose differently): Their mole is a bit inconsistent, sometimes too salty. The combinations are ok, but more about quantity and don't really highlight what they do well. I never sit down and prefer a burrito - I just think other things are better here. Overall, definitely a recommendation and we will continue to go.

I've eaten here several times over the past few years and it is consistently good, comfort Mexican food. The salsa is always fresh and the portions are a good size. They have fantastic happy hour margaritas (cheap!) which is also a plus. The servers are always friendly and the food comes out fast. I have only ordered dessert here once (churros) and they were very dry - I wouldn't order them again.

Happy hour is great for decent cheap food. Steak Quesadillas were so tasty for 3 bucks. Pitcher of Margs is 16-18 dollars yet it is enough for 4 people to get toasted. Or really one Marg for 3 dollars and they are strong. I have had all the HH dishes and they are all good. BTW.. Nice park across the street for a stroll after dinner. New paved path is one mile around.

I had to go back and forth between a 4 star and 3 star review. The good naturedness in me had me pick 4. This place is good. I have been twice and the salsa is fresh and tasty with a little kick each time. The first visit I had the carnitas burrito smothered in green chili. It was good but I had to order a side of fresh jalapeños to sprinkle on top because I like my Mexican food spicy and this was not spicy. With the help of the jalapeños I enjoyed the meal. The second time I went I forgot what I had but it was not very good. (I am sure that was just my personal opinion and there are other people who may like it) so I wont get that again...whatever it was. My mom got the tostadas with guacamole and the guacamole was very good. Over all I think this place is pretty tasty, the service is fast and friendly and the place is clean and welcoming.

Just a little while after we moved to the Southmoor area, we saw a closed restaurant undergoing renovation. We were ecstatic when the La Fogata sign went up as we had been going to the original restaurant for years. Eight years later we still enjoy the drinks, food, and staff at this Quincy location. We tend to order the traditional margaritas (a little more tart) and as spring and summer approach, we eagerly anticipate treating ourselves to one or two on the patio. Cinco suave is my favorite dish, although everything on the menu is muy delicioso. Over the years we have grown close to many of the staff and have celebrated many special events here. And talk about soccer? Everyone is a HUGE Barcelona fan!!

  • Alfredo G.

I've become a fan of this place so I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could. The food is good, not great, but consistent. I've had huevos rancheros, enchiladas, and maybe a couple of other plates. The salsa is good and spicy, but the food could use some flavor. What really has made the difference is the service. I always get seated right away, my drink is never empty, and empty dishes are taken right away. I don't think I've ever had to flag down anyone. They still have the Dow discount to boot. So it's cheap and I go here pretty often when I'm hungry and need to study. Nonetheless, the food itself could be better and I probably wouldn't go as often if it wasn't so close.

I have been questioning my feelings for La Fogata II for a while, and did not want to post my comments until I knew exactly how I felt about this place deep down. My conclusion is... I like it. Though I have had multiple bad experiences, including one tonight I will keep on coming back. I won't even indulge you with the bad because it has only to do with service issues, and to go food being packed up, BUT ultimately... if you are looking for good, quick, food that kills that Mexican food craving, this is your place. The positives: * great location, located right down the street from my apartments. So convenient, even close enough for a walk maybe. *awesome patio. It is huge and may very well be the best outdoor patio in the tech center. * the food is delicious! I get the same thing almost every time I come here. The sopa de frijoles! It is so good! It is a soup with pinto or black beans, rice, and its full of a light broth. Then topped with tomatoes, onions, avocado, and cheese upon request. This is never disappointing. *Last but not least, though I have had some bad service experiences, the manager did nothing but the best in fixing that experience for me. I appreciate the owners of this place and think it may one day be just as good as La Fogata I.

I always say that there is nothing like good Mexican food. And this is nothing like good Mexican food. I have driven past it en route from work for several months and finally decided to try it. It was happy hour, so I ordered the house margarita, and refused it because I thought he gave me a strawberry mix. The bartender told me it was their own special blend of juices, basically it was guava juice without the slightest hint of lime, or more importantly, tequila. No wonder it was so cheap. There wasn't any booze in it. The salsa was bland, and the chips were stale. For dinner I had a burrito apodaba. Now, I will sat that the pork was spiced well, but it was so overstuffed with refried beans that I had to pull out individual pieces to find out. The beans and the green chili were just paste, no flavor at all. Sitting at the bar, one usually gets good service, I won't complain about that. But my main gripe is that Mexican food needs some spice and taste, and this was really no better than a microwave lunch plate. All in all, very disappointing. I won't be back.

Went for dinner last week and ate out on the patio. Wonderful waiter and quick, yummy chips and salsa! Two chicken enchiladas for under $6 and not only a great deal, but quite good. The bar got backed up and when we told our waiter we hadn't received our margaritas they came out within minutes and were on the house! Highly recommend and can't wait to go back!

I hadn't been here in quite some time and am happy to report that it's equally if not better than what I remember! I went for lunch the other day and we sat outside on their nicely-decorated patio. The service was great, the chips and salsa were delicious, and I had THE best grilled fish tacos I've ever had. I was happy to find healthy options on their menu in addition to all the traditional faves. I can't wait to go back!

I figure this is more a 3.5 star rating, and giving it a four will help the rating distribution. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised with my experience at La Fogata. I ended up eating here because I had computer needs that required a trip to MicroCenter. I was not expecting much, just your typical gringo Mexican style restaurant. The place was packed and the servers and hostesses were very nice and apologized for our wait. I noticed some reviews knock the salsa. I actually liked it and find that calling it flavorless is uncalled for. It is a thicker, chunky style salsa with plenty of cilantro. Sometimes I dig the thinner really spicy style salsas, but I found that this one is good too. I decided to go with the Yelpers and try the taquitos adobada and my boyfriend tried the carne asada. Definitely very good! The adobada is marinated pork and is spicy and flavorful. The carne asada is good too, and if you prefer a grilled flavor as opposed to a marinated flavor, go with that. The sauce they provide on the side is awesome and it definitely adds some kick to the dish. This place makes these dishes way better than similar places like Las Delicias, Garcias, etc, and if you are in the mood for gringo Mexican food, or simply need food after your trip to MicroCenter, give this place a shot.

  • Cindy S.

This used to be my favorite. Now I'm disappointed every time I go. The service has gone downhill, with the exception of the hostess, and the bartender. The wait staff doesn't seem to care about the customer anymore, and the portions have gotten noticably smaller. Last night, my waitress was trying to clear us out to make the table available, even before I had finished half my food. When I told her I wasn't finished, she disappeared for the rest of our meal. No more water refills or salsa refills. I had to ask the hostess for our check. And the salsa. The salsa used to be the best I found anywhere. Its been watery and flavorless lately. La Fagota, what happened?? You used to be my go to!

    (2)
  • Jeremy S.

Maybe one of the best Mexican restaurants in Denver! Great salsa, and good food. If you are choosing between Fagota I or Fagota II, II has a great patio for the spring/summer. Both have great margaritas...and of course great green chile.

  • Amy G.

This is by far the worst Mexican food I have ever eaten. I would have rather gone to Taco Bell. The beans had the texture of paste, and tasted burnt and just not the way beans should taste. The flautas were tasteless and soggy in the middle. My husband had the tacos, and he said that the meat tasted "funny", and the shells were soggy as well. We are both part Mexican, so we know our Mexican food, and this place was so bad that we wouldn't give it a second try, even if they paid us. If you want good Mexican food, this isn't the place for you.

We love this place. Great food, friendly folks, and the price is reasonable. We get take from here all the time, it's a family favorite. Can't eat here without ordering the chips and salsa. Yum!

  • James S.

One of the better places I've found in Denver. Not bad at all. Good, fast service, nice dishes, decent price. Good bar-tender which is a must for Mexican! Made great Martinis and Margaritas! The food was definitely better than Armadillo and Three Margaritas. Not the best I've ever had (spent a lot of time in southern California). But, not bad at all for Denver. Atmosphere is nice, clean, classy, mostly quite and the outdoor seating is decent.

I was excited to try La Fogata and went to the Quincy location recently. The patio was lovely and the wait staff was fairly attentive and friendly. The food was not great though. My guacamole tostada was inedible-tasted rotten or old. After 1 bite of it, I didn't eat any more of it. The cheese enchilada was average: decent but nothing special. Overall it didn't leave me wanting to go back. It was just average. I think there are much better mexican restaurants in town (Rosa Linda's, Patzcuaro's, Mezcal, Tambien) and I will be visiting those instead.

This was a great little find in southeast denver. I had a nice shrimp soup with a chipotle broth. The fish tacos were very tasty, too. Overall, we were very pleased. Good happy hour special -- $3 strawberry margaritas between 4 - 7 pm M-F.

I was fulfilling my computer geekness at Micro center when I saw La Fogata. I am one of those people who cannot pass up a mexican restaurant I haven't tried, so I ventured in. Very happy I did. Vegetarian green and red chili? Unheard of in these parts, but not at this place. Great service too. I wasn't completely thrilled about the guacamole but the rest was divine, not quite as spicy as I like, but divine anyway.

I generally judge Mexican restaurants by their chimichangas. La Fogata, while not great, has pretty darn good chimis. I usually opt for chicken but La Fogata had shredded beef so I tried that instead. It could use some onions and peppers in it too, but the beef alone was still great. Unfortunately, we walked in mere minutes after happy hour ended and could not snag HH margaritas, but we trudged on nonetheless (and paid full price). I must say - we initially passed this place up several times just because it seems pretty dumpy from outside, but after seeing the huge crowds through the window we gave it a whirl and were not disappointed! Even though they were busy, we were seated right away and service was great. Score! More great food within walking distance...

  • Denver D.

I am always glad to see a good restaurant expand. La Fogata's new location has much better curb appeal over the Evans location. Look's like a third location is being planned as well. The salsa is tops but I try my best not to indulge to allow room for the main course. My favorite of which is the Taquitos de Carne Adobada! I believe that every good mexican restaurant has one or two signature dishes that make the trip worthwhile. I have yet to try every dish on the menu (I'm getting there) but the Adobada sauce here is extraordinary. A second dish worth savoring is the Enchiladas de Mole (or get the Mole de Pollo straight up). Mole is a tough dish to get right - but when done right: nuts, chile and chocolate are great friends.

  • Julia Y.

Totally surprised!! We've tried many mexican food restaurants and have been very disappointed, but we kept truckin' along. La Fogata was actually pretty tasty! I agree w/ Alfredo, I'd give them 3.5 if I could.....3 is too little, but four is too generous. The service is consistent and GREAT! I was amazed at how fast the drinks were refilled & the chips & salsa. Everything could be more spicy, but all in all a mexican food place where we would return and have returned. Overall a decent mexican food experience w/ great service. Not sure about everyone else, but I've had some terrible service these days and it is refreshing to have a restaurant actually care about the customer. Bravo La Fogata!

I love La Fogata. I have been visiting this location, and the original for many years. I love the friendly staff, tasty green chili, flavorful salsa, and the wide variety of options on the menu. For the best Mexican food in South Denver, check out La Fogata.

I used to love this place. The service was great on my last trip but the food was sub par and was Luke warm. It looked and tasted as though it had been nuked in the microwave. I was very disappointed as this used to be a favorite of mine.

Great service makes the food better. But this place has great food and great service to make it that much better. This was my first time visiting here and I will go back. The fajitas are outstanding and they cook it like you ask them to. Go here if you want good Mexican with great service.

Maybe one of the best Mexican restaurants in Denver! Great salsa, and good food. If you are choosing between Fagota I or Fagota II, II has a great patio for the spring/summer. Both have great margaritas...and of course great green chile.

  • Cyndi J.

    (4)
  • Dayna D.

    (4)
  • Josh M.

  • Hannah Y.

  • Roger G.

Kudos!

We love this place! One of the few places the kids don't mind coming either. The chips and salsa rock as do the house margaritas! I have not found anything on the menu that I did not like. The staff has always been very friendly everytime we have been here. Keep up the good work and the amazing food!

My husband and I have been here twice. I'm from Texas and I like to think I am a good judge of Mexican food. I loved both meals I had here, except for the ground beef, which I'm picky about. My husband thought one meal was ok and the other good. Staff is great!

Service was excellent...very attentive wait staff. Our drinks were never empty and food came out fast. Salsa is spicy but good and the house margarita is pretty strong! Would definitely come back here.

Tasty, hearty food and friendly, attentive service. Despite being crowded on a Friday night, we didn't have a wait to be seated or served. The house salsa is spicy and very good with homemade chips. The chicken nachos were delicious!

This has been in our monthly rotation for almost two years now. The food is very consistent and reflects what I consider to be front range Mexican food. Service is always great. They keep the chips and salsa topped which is nice. My wife give it five stars, I would if I saw some menu items change maybe seasonly.

This place has great food. Enchiladas and chips and salsa are unique. Price is great too. I wished they would improve their sopapillas. They always taste dry. Flan is amazing though.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
