This is the best fish & chips I've ever had. Big pieces of cod, not oily, very crispy and i like it the old fashion way with just viniger. I just get the fish, I'm not a big fries or chips person no matter who makes them. But the fish in both locations is fabulous. The other location is on Sheridan Blvd. across from Sloan's Lake. Just like a UK Pub.

I'd like to give this place 3.5 starts because I really like the atmosphere. It's very laid back, decked out in Brit decor, and picnic-style seating. Seems like people frequent this place quite often and gets pretty packed. The girl working the register totally hooked me up when I ordered the cab. Filled my plastic cup to the top, just the way I like it:) I ordered the combo and my buddy had the cod. Nothing special there. Actually was rather bland and oily. Chips weren't too crispy and very subpar. I'm not complaining, I'll still eat anything fried! So, overall, Eh, it's ok...

Just got back from lunch and my first time here. I love this place. I have been wanting to try it for months after seeing all the great reviews and finally had a day off. I started with the clam chowder which was delicious. Probably the best I have had in Denver...it had clams and potatoes in it and was thick...the end...no bacon or bell peppers or other crap that doesn't belong in clam chowder. I had the half order of fish and chips, which is three large pieces of cod and lots of fries (steak type). The fish was excellent and smoking hot, it was right at lunch time and they were busy, so it was a little bit of a wait, but well worth it. The batter was crispy and good and not too thick and the fish was very moist. The chips were good, but I was so full I could barely eat any of them. The tarter sauce comes in tiny cups, so I asked for more and got plenty. The staff is super friendly and will take care of your needs. I will definitely be coming back next time I need a fish n chips fix.

The only think I liked more than the food was being able to talk Arsenal with the lad behind the counter. Don't get me wrong though, a basket of cod and a Newcastle is about as good as it gets. It's comforting to know that there's a nice chippy nearby.

Batter fried bits of formerly living things? Sign me up! I've been seeing this place for quite some time and finally went in to check it out with a friend. You know what? They have... fish there. And french fries. Also some sausages. And also some beer. The fish sure tasted like fried fish. Plenty good too. Heapa good. Like totally battered. Hadn't been sitting out under a heat lamp. Fries? Sure, hard to screw that up too bad though. They were heapa starchy bro brah. As a matter of fact this place was great. It was clean, staff was friendly, the food for sure as good as one would hope. I just have a hard time mustering more than three stars over fried fish.

I'm from Ireland, my husband's from the UK and we get fish and chips here every Friday. Need I say more? Nope, don't think so. But I will (because I'm Irish, and I talk too much on occasion): the environs are perfectly low key, and the food is simply tasty. Don't expect bells and whistles.

I'd give this place 4 stars but it's a bit pricey...thats my only gripe. Good food and really nice people.

I dig it, but I always need some Alka Seltzer to kill the grease induced nausea that hits me around 8PM after a lunch here. I've tried smaller portions, but it always gets me. Still, the food is delicious, and I must brave it at least two or three times a year. No mushy peas is kind of a bummer, but I doubt many Americans would really dive into them if they did offer them.

Sort of like being in Wisconsin and having their fish and chips... We loved the fish, the fries need some work... Not crispy enough--- I like them crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Would go back though just cuz I don't know where else to get good fish and chips.

Actually 3.5 stars. The fish and chips are great - everything is fried freshly after your order is placed which is actually a good thing. Not four stars because they SERIOUSLY skimped on the tartar sauce (like, obviously so -- were they running out???). Also, the coleslaw was probably from a supermarket or Sysco Food Suppliers. Service was friendly, everything was nice and clean. Happy hour looked really good with good deals on the beer menu. Will definitely be back to try other menu items - they offer several different fish option, bangers, mash and pasties.

Time for the Fish and Chips Happy Dance! I freakin' heart this place more than life, and I have always had bad experiences with fish and chips. Nope, not here! I have seriously been back so many times just so I could try EVERYTHING on the menu. The scallops and the Squid are my personal favs, but honestly, everything is great! Keep in mind I am not even a huge fish lover or eater, but something in the crispy FRESH batter and the thicky, thicky, thick fries makes me want to jump for joy. I normally go on my lunch hour so it's pretty busy, they have long dining tables so most of the time I end up sharing with strangers (which makes it just as interesting :)

(Note - I visited during happy hour on Good Friday) After attempting a home-made version of a fish fry last weekend (mostly a success but sooooo time consuming), my husband and I decided to try out someone else's fried fish. GB Fish and Chips is exactly as others reviewed it - a no frills eatery with a counter for you order and a seat wherever you can find one. The line was to the door when we arrived a little before 6. I managed to grab two stools while my husband ordered. We must have waited at least half an hour, if not more, for our food. We split a full combo with chips, and we also got a PBR and Hoegaarden for $20. The combo is a great deal if you are just trying to figure out if you like this place or not. It comes with two pieces each of tilapia, cod, calamari, shrimp, and four scallops. The tilapia and scallops were pretty good, but everything else was just alright. The fries were very average, and my husband said he watched the whole cooking process while waiting for the food, and the fries are just Sysco fries with Lawry's seasoning (i.e., not anything special). He also said that the batter is a dry dusting then a wet dunk. I felt that the batter came off in chunks once you bit into a bite (leaving bits of batter all over my tartar sauce), which wasn't really that pleasing to me. So in general, the food is OK, but nothing special, and also quite expensive if you aren't intending to share. I'm not willing to wait so long for some mediocre food. I like how it's a very basic set-up with no-frills service. Oh, happy hour is $.75 PBR cans and $.75 off all other beer and wine.

Really really fabulous fish 'n chips. I mean, really good. The curried veg pasty, however, was awful. One of the employees asked about it, and I lied and told her it was fine. I shoulda given some constructive criticism. Strongbow, fried cod, malt vinegar on everything = I will overlook the awful pasty. Oh, and good HH prices. GO!

  • Kendall L.

Best fish n chips outside of Great Britain and Canada. Go there really early on Saturdays and Sunday's and Monday afternoons when they show Premier league soccer. Awesome atmosphere for the games.

OK...I dig that Denver is not exactly a hub of 'foreign' cuisine, but I when I heard about GB's I had some hope that I'd have a spot for that late night fix. I've lived in London and have been fortunate enough to have had some very good fare from chippies in NYC, but I was just hoping for a little bit more. The fish was decent, the bangers were meh, and the chips were just OK. The place gets a major + mark for its beer selection though. Where else here can you find Kronenbourg?

    (2)
  • Zack S.

Excellent food! The batter is light and crisp, and the fish isn't too greasy, considering it is fried. The fries are pretty good as well, and while it's not served on actual newspaper, it is served on wax paper that looks like newspaper.

  • Doug F.

Best I have had in Denver for sure. Batter and fish were perfect, good atmosphere.

    (4)
  • Deana K.

I wanted to like this place, but just didn't. It was too expensive for the portion size for one thing. Also, if your name is going to be fish and 'chips' you may want to have good fries. They didn't even salt them. The fish was good, but there just wasn't enough of it for the price. Big disappointment and I left hungry.

    (2)
  • Scottie T.

I could have sworn I loved meat pies, but after eating the pasty at this place, I may just not have the taste for them. I plan on heading back to try out the fish and chips but for now, I'm gonna rate at 3 stars because the atmosphere was good and the employees were nice.

  • Steve B.

Good fish for Denver. Fish tastes fresh. I don't eat the chips but my wife said they were ok. Cole slaw was typical. Excellent for a quick bite to get a fish craving satisfied. Definitely best fish and chips in Denver that I've tasted so far.

    (4)
  • John M.

Always a solid meal here. Great staff, cold boddingtons and good slaw. The cod and chips rule!

    (5)
  • Jessica N.

Five stars for the fish ... 2 stars for the chips. I really love their yummy fish. I swear it is as good as I had in England (of course I have a Yank's taste, so maybe that's to blame). The lack luster "chips" do not sit well with me but I'm not big on fries anyhow so it's not a huge loss for me.

    (4)
  • Edward T.

On my most recent visit, Cod was good as usual but oysters were disappointing. small, dry and oily. stick to the fish!

    (4)
  • William P.

So, i gave this place a second chance today despite by subpar previous experience there. World of difference. No rancid oily smell when I walked in the door. The fish was crispy, hot and didn't taste of old oil in the least. Instaed, it tasted of fish...and darn good fish at that. The fries sucked. But, who comes here for the fries...really?

  • Andrew W.

Great cod and chips in Denver, oh my! Shepherd's pie was a little bland for my lady's taste - but she also has sodium issues. We'd definitely go back.

    (4)
  • Joe R.

What a great place. The fish and chips are amazing here!!! Crispy, fresh and hot. They always have soccer playing on the tube which is a bonus and you can get a beer. The soup was very good also. You can't go wrong with this place.

Really really good fish and chips.excellent atmosphere, friendly service.

  • steve c.

Sorry, but the fish and chips and experience are better at Breckenridge Brewery. Stupid seating -- split up those huge tables, let people pull them together if needed. Its dumb when six 2-tops fill your entire restaurant. The fish and chips is tasty, but the shepherd's pie is crap, CRAP. The pasties are nothing to get excited about: under seasoned and pasty. A-hole food policy -- If you want to spring for an expensive combo, but don't want tilapia, they absolutely will NOT substitute anything else. It's almost as if their policy should be: "We can't accommodate you." We got up to get our meals when our names were called, the hostess had already stuck her fingers in our drinks and piled our appetizer plates. We were four feet away, can't she look around? Wouldn't two cold 1/2-full beers indicate the possibility that customers are still present? They close too early. Thank gawd for Bistro One across the street!

  • Paula P.

I thought the clam chowder was excellent. I also had the fish and chips. It was definitely good and really crisp, but not the best I've had. If you like tartar sauce, you'll have to buy more, they only give you about two teaspoons. I'll be back for sure, but for the clam chowder.

  • Kate B.

Fish and Chips aren't exactly a staple in my diet, but when the craving tickles my belly, there's no resisting the call. GB makes the best fish and chips in this town, your search ends here. The folks that work here are really nice, always down for some good conversations and a laugh. The food is cooked when you order it, which as we all know is the best way to enjoy fried foods. If you haven't been tapped on your fried food quota for the day, you can always pop into the Winchell's next door and snag a donut or two for the ride home.

    (5)
  • Mark M.

It's all about the chips. Frozen steak fries are not English chips. The chips at GB Fish and Chips don't compare to the worst Fish and Chip shops in all of England. The fish was good but no better than we've had in many area restaurants. If it weren't for the bangers, which were quite good, our 30 minute drive would have been for nothing.

    (2)
  • Valerie M.

I eat here for lunch occasionally. It's great for when I'm craving fried food. They fry your order just before they serve it so everything is crispy and fresh. The cod is moist on the inside and delightfully crisp on the outside. The batter is not too greasy and just the right thickness. A half meal is a bit too much for me to finish, but it might be because I'm not a huge fan of their thick cut fries. If you love freshly fried seafood this is a great place to go. As for steve c.'s complaint about GB's policy, I am in agreement with the restaurant. He was asking them to substitute a more expensive piece of fish for the one he didn't want.

  • Harold M.

Best fish and chips in the Denver area. Two other stores to choose from.

  • liza r.

My husband and I have been coming here pretty much since it opened. While I do find them to be the closest to getting it in England here, I do feel the past couple of times were just too greasy (slip out of my fingers greasy). We will continue to come here, but I may pat mine down with a napkin next time.

Does anyone else think they should change the name to Denver Fish and Chips! These are way better then the crap they serve on the other side of the pond.

Have been back 3 times since. All very consistent. The only problem is it is getting quite popular for lunch. Bad for me, bad for cod, but good for the biz!

I love this place. Excellent batter! The fish has always been fresh tasting, and the outside is golden and crispy. The chips are fried to perfection. I have sampled nearly everything on the menus. I would recommend this to anyone who loves fish & chips.

i was afraid of fish and chips my whole life, until i went to california and had some really good stuff. unfortunately, colorado, not being on the ocean, has a significantly less delicious selection. that's why there's gb's. amazing fish, ok chips, and an endless supply of soccer. 3 stars because even though the fish is to die for, i get sketched out by the cleanliness, and i think the chips could definitely be improved. also i burn my mouth consistently because i'm too excited by the time i get my fish, but that's definitely my fault, not theirs. i'll definitely be back and back and back again though, scalded taste buds or no.

Fish and chips are a tough call. Done right they are fantastic. Mostly, they're done wrong and the eater suffers. Here at GB they are done totally and unequivically RIGHT. Authentic, tasty, nice balance of fish and batter. Order the half order as the full is a TON of fish (though I ate all of them). Great new location near Sloan's lake with nice atmosphere and live "footy"! Think it's a great place and glad they've opened up in my neighborhood.

    (5)
  • Jason R.

The owners a nice guy and he seems to hit the fish and chips nail on the head. Aside from the neighborhood "we all gotta start somewhere" and the rather cold tone the restaurant puts forth, its a decent place to grab a bite.

I was off to find some delicious fried food. No matter the calories or the exercise I would have to endure later on in the day, I was determined to find some incredibly delicious fish and chips, like it was my dying wish. I had spotted GB's months earlier while dining at Pasquini's directly across the street and new that it would be the place for me to try good fried fish. I also just loved driving down Broadway because I get a kick out of seeing the Smart Car dealership. Those little things are precious. When I arrived I felt I had been thrown into England. The flag, football memorabilia and accent of the chef in the back made me feel as if I were in another country for the moment, and I was thrilled because there is nothing better than a man with an accent, accept food of course. While looking at the small menu, I decided to order the Combo plate, which consists of cod, tilapia, prawn, squid, and scallops fried to crispy perfection. The batter was light and very flavorful. It paired well with their delicious tartar sauce, but make sure to ask for more because a small little cup is only enough for two bites. Get four because you will want to eat it without the fish it is so tasty. The Combo plate came with a side, you could choose from chips (fries), baked beans, coleslaw, mash potatoes and crisps (potato chips). This is the only part of the meal I was disappointed in. If a place is going to call itself fish and chips joint it should make those two items specifically in house. Their fish was hand battered and deep fried but there chips were Sysco brand, flavorless and not up to my expectations, which are incredibly high. It might have been more cost effective to buy the chips, but it would have been a better marketing ploy to make their own fresh, especially for taste reasons. The baked beans were okay, but that is because they tasted like Busch's baked beans, and the coleslaw was not bad if you are a mayonnaise lover. Overall the fish was banging, the sides were sub par, and the service was superb. I will now journey down Broadway more often just to have a whole basket of fried fish, catch the next football game, and have a couple of beers from now on.

  • Tara C.

This place has great fried fish and seafood (try the combo) and they have a good selection of British Isles beer although I wish they had a tap. The fries are the only serious flaw this place has in my view, although I haven't tried the pasties. They are cut too thick, obviously frozen, and remind me of something I would get at a chain restaurant, With all the great seafood they are serving, why wouldn't they get good fries, or better yet, cut their own?! Doesn't stop me from coming back, but it does stop me from giving them 5 stars.

  • Kara B.

Overall one of my favorite Denver eateries. Best fish and chips around cheap for a meal and even my fiancé can't finish his whole meal.

    (5)
  • Sara H.

I love this fish and chips. I have had the pasty and was disappointed. However I have had the real thing in Cornwall and my husband has also made them at home, so I am a bit picky. Now when I go to GB I only get the fish. It is fabulous! I agree not enough tartar sauce, but if you ask for more they gladly give it to you. We don't go here often but that is because I watch my waistline, so when we do make it in it is a special treat!

I recently devoured the large meal of mixed fried stuff with reckless abandon. I'm thinking this place is going to make it into regular rotation with the hot boyfriend of Doom and I.

  • Ellen K.

I'm not a fish 'n chips fan, but I was the only one in the group who wanted to go somewhere else. So guess what? I lost and we went to GB Fish and Chips. But guess what? I was the winner as this was a delightful meal. I ordered the 1/2 combo with chips, which was MORE than enough food. The batter was light yet tasty and didn't detract from the fish taste. The only complaint was that you have to eat it quickly before the grease soaks in. I'm a slow eater, so the last few pieces weren't as tasty. The fries were good though I've had better. If you're looking for ambience, don't come here. We sat out back but it was all concrete with a huge billboard looking down on us. But, hey, the place is on Broadway; what are you goin' do?

Ok - So here is the scoop. I have had the real deal in London. This place is close. The food is good, prices are right. Would i bring my kids - perhaps in the daytime. Is it clean? Yes. Is the service Good? Well, the girl that took my order was flurting with a guy and i was hungry. I was a bit short (my bad). Other than that, the food came fast. Bottom line - would i come again and would i reccommend? The answer to both is "Yes". Enjoy!

    (4)
  • Rex H.

I love their Cod and Chips. The food is usually done quite fast (under 5 minutes) and they usually have a good amount of seating. They also have an outdoor seating area in the back on the building for those so inclined. Parking can be tight on busy evenings due to the lot being shared with Winchell's Donut Shop. They also have specially on days when the Rapids play and send out email reminders. They also have traditional bangers and meat pies as well as squid, scallops, oysters, prawns, and tilapia. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys fish and chips.

  • Carbona N.

Because I've never been to England I can't say whether GB is as good as it gets, but damn are their fish and chips good. I had a cod "full meal," which in my opinion is a meal for two: six good-sized fish pieces and a healthy (okay, generous) pile of chips. The batter was perfect, not greasy, not burnt, not stale. Chips warm and just crispy enough. And all this for about fifteen bucks. If only they had an on-site cardiologist, I could eat there every night!

    (4)
  • A J.

Yep, if you like Fish and Chips this is a good place to go. I've eaten in my share of chip shops in England and this has the flavor of some of the good ones. Nice folks and good portions, be hungry for a full order, I normally get a 1/2 order unless I'm feeling really empty. Check it out, I don't think you will be disappointed.

  • Johnny V.

I rarely, ok never give ANYTHING 5 stars...because really what do you need to do to be 5 star??? Perfect right? RIGHT! Ok, so if you like fish and chips then you will love this place. Park in back walk right in get up there and order the cod (half order meal) and prawns if there are 2 of you. You will get a mouth-watering, perfectly fried, set of cod and 5-6 prawns that are shaped into a ring (trust me they are ridiculously good. The tarter sauce is perfect, the chips (fries) are a nice compliment. The amazing thing about this place is the authenticity, taste, and the good people that run it. Soccer or Football if you prefer (not american football) is running as constant as it can and there are jerseys lining the wall. There isn't a ton of seating space and on fridays and weekends it can fill up quickly so be patient or get there early. The prices are a bit steep but #1 you didn't have to fly to London #2 the food is BETTER (yeah I said it) than 99% of those fish and chip shacks in London and we are lucky enough to have it right here in Denver....go figure. If you haven't tried it, stop reading this right now and just go....

I've been searching for 'great'' fish & chips since I arrived in Denver in 1991. FINALLY - my search is over. This place is AMAZING! Hands down, the best fried cod I've ever had. Cooked to perfection and steaming hot when served. No heat lamps here! Fast, frendly service only top off the experience. Do yourself a favor...put this place on your bucket list!

Hit up GB's on a quiet Sunday afternoon. I had heard nothing but good things about this place and since I am a fan of British Fare (Specifically Fish & Chips) I figured I couldn't go wrong. Walking in it looked as I had expected, a no frills joint covered in soccer jerseys and various British decor. The place wasn't packed but there was a good crowd for a small place further south on Broadway than most might care to travel. There were several options on the menu including Shepard's pie and pasties but I opted for the fish and chips. The food was great, portions were great ( I had a half order and just finished it ) and the beer was great but isn't beer always great? Speaking of beer they had several options of domestic or import in cans or bottles. Out the door I think I threw down about 10 bucks for the meal and the beer. Was it the best Fish n Chips in Denver? Possibly. Best I've had ever? Definitely not. If only this place were a tad closer to the S. Broadway and say Ellsworth area, it would make a great late night meal! But don't worry I'll be back.

When I want some fish and chips, I head to GB for lunch. The fish is well done and tasty and the large chips (fries to us Americans) are large and great. I really like the ambiance of the place as a local joint. In addition, soccer is always on the television and I can pick up the latest issue of the Celtic Connection and read about Celtic events. My only complaint is I wish the tartar sauce was served in a larger size. I usually run out before I am finished with the fish.

GO!

  • Scottie T.

I could have sworn I loved meat pies, but after eating the pasty at this place, I may just not have the taste for them. I plan on heading back to try out the fish and chips but for now, I'm gonna rate at 3 stars because the atmosphere was good and the employees were nice.

Good fish for Denver. Fish tastes fresh. I don't eat the chips but my wife said they were ok. Cole slaw was typical. Excellent for a quick bite to get a fish craving satisfied. Definitely best fish and chips in Denver that I've tasted so far.

Always a solid meal here. Great staff, cold boddingtons and good slaw. The cod and chips rule!

Great cod and chips in Denver, oh my! Shepherd's pie was a little bland for my lady's taste - but she also has sodium issues. We'd definitely go back.

What a great place. The fish and chips are amazing here!!! Crispy, fresh and hot. They always have soccer playing on the tube which is a bonus and you can get a beer. The soup was very good also. You can't go wrong with this place.

    (4)
  • Patrick J.

My husband and I have been coming here pretty much since it opened. While I do find them to be the closest to getting it in England here, I do feel the past couple of times were just too greasy (slip out of my fingers greasy). We will continue to come here, but I may pat mine down with a napkin next time.

i was afraid of fish and chips my whole life, until i went to california and had some really good stuff. unfortunately, colorado, not being on the ocean, has a significantly less delicious selection. that's why there's gb's. amazing fish, ok chips, and an endless supply of soccer.

Enjoy!

  • Natalia S.

Always get the Cod. Never stray away from COD! Get the chips too. Very nicely sliced potatoes. Also, they have beer. Best fish and chips all around the area :)

  • Anne C.

Came in to show the hubby some "real" fish and chips, and left very satisfied. The food: I wisely went for the half cod, while the hubby went for the full. That was...a lot of fish for two folks, I'll tell ya that. But it was delicious! Crispy flaky cod in a really tasty batter complimented by tangy coleslaw and crispy chips. The one thing I'd mention is that I feel like they don't make their own chips. I'm not sure why, but I wish they did. They're "alright", but they could be mind blowing. Drinks were solid, service was outstanding--we will be back for sure.

It's been a very long time since we've been here but the woman friend I have lunch with on Thursdays has been bugging me to go for fish and chips so today, despite my phobia for consuming that much grease in one sitting, I acquiesced. Arrived about 1:30 and several tables were occupied by one person so we ended up at the window counter - seating pretty much sucks. Sadly, nothing much has changed except the prices which I think are a little off the charts. I could be wrong about this but I'm pretty sure chips used to be included - not anymore. Sides are extra. So, the greasy cod, which I'm still regretting, with a small side of cole slaw and the extra charge of $1 for enough tartar sauce to go around was over $16. She had a small order of cod and an order of sausage rolls - $14 something. Water to drink and lunch was $30 - um no. She ended up taking most of my order home with her so I'm going to have a salad for dinner and hope for the best. No more fish for her!

Delicious crispy crunchy battered Cod, fried fresh, served hot, and piled high! This was a real late night find, and a score with my very particular British boyfriend. Major points for Alice. Late on a Saturday night, at 2 minutes to closing time, we were welcomed into the very casual and heavily painted, heavily decorated with overtly anglophile paraphernalia (football (Soccer) scarves, jerseys). The token signed Bronco photo seemed out of place. We ordered the half-meals and ate every bite- they were HUGE but we were starving. I couldn't imagine ordering or needing the full order, ever. We rocked out to the Clash, the Cure, the Beatles and Bob Marly while our order was dumped into a giant vat to fry. A few minutes later, we had our dinner piping hot, so hot we couldn't even dig in for a minute or two.. The chips were deemed authentic- big fat chips that satisfied after a night of carousing. Ever the lady, I had coleslaw, and it was fresh, crunchy, and complimentary to my giant chunks of cod, even that late at night. This was a great, tasty find and we will be back! Note from the Brit: No self-respecting Chippie would ever serve their fish-n-chips in a copy of the telegraph.

Not a bad place. I really can't stand fish and chips. I got surprised by my husband and I had no other option but to go. To be honest I wasnt happy and I wasn't planning on eating anything. It isn't a very big place. You get more options of seating when it is a nice day and you can sit on the patio. We had to stand for most of our waiting and almost didn't get a table. You might not get a table when you get in there. Even with the signs that say get cozy you don't see many friendly people who will let you sit with them. In regards to the food I was pleasantly surprised. My husband got a variety basket. It included cod, tilapia, shrimp scallops and something else I dont remember. I would have to say it was the best fish and chips I have ever had. I would definitely go back to have some fish and chips again. My husband also ordered me a sausage basket. There was a spicy mustard and fried beans with it. I really did not like the sausage it was a very unique sausage almost tasted like it was made with bread inside. The mustard was really hot but I really liked it. The baked beans were typical and I think that they were canned. I give it a four stars because of seating and the sausage basket that I didn't like very well. But for being a fish and chips place, it was the best fish and chips I've ever had and I would be okay with going back.

This spot has good fish n' chips. It's not my favorite dish, but I'm pretty sure it IS my fiance's favorite dish. I had the cod and he had the tilapia. We both really enjoyed our meals. It's definitely a laid-back, casual atmosphere. You order at the counter and they call your name when your food is ready. We were there on a Friday evening and there was barely any seating. We ended up sitting at the bar stools near the window, even though it was a pretty chilly spot. They were the only two seats we could find together. Overall, it's a good spot with good fish n' chips. Probably not a great first date venue, but maybe a second or third? :)

Let's start this off with a positive note instead of a negative one as I usually do. I'm giving this place a 3 star out of the 5 based on the quality of the soda .I went through each flavor and tasted it and we ended up with Mountain Dew. It is the best mountain Dew I have ever drank. Now down to the nitty gritty of the greasy fish it wasn't bad like other places but it was still pretty greasy slaw was alright bigger pieces than I'm used to the mashed potatoes that I was surprised that was even on the menu were actually very decent I would say in the future for them to put more butter and to put heavy cream in them .We ordered the tilapia and the squid combo platter I am a squid freak. I was actually pretty pleased with the squid but it was oily as well ,all I can say is what do you expect when you order fried food.... I wish they would left it up a little bit longer so it wouldn't be so greasy and for the price it is definitely a little high almost 17 bucks for one person. And the waitress had a little bit of a snotty attitude didn't like that at all!!! when she was picking up our plastic baskets ,and the sides were extra moolah!! Hmmmm don't know if I would come here again. This is something for everybody to chew on to think about. I have to add one last thing as we were walking out the waitress came and looked at the table to see if we left her a tip ,she did nothing for us the whole time that we were there all she did it take our plastic baskets away from us that I had mentioned earlier and I had said thank you to her for taking the baskets away from us and she didn't even respond to me I am NOT leaving her a tip for doing nothing I will never come back here again I am putting this down to one star.

Walking into this place and hearing Peter Tosh was a nice surprise. Fried cod was excellent and the cod portions were generous. Mashed potatoes had a nice garlic and butter flavor. Tartar sauce was awesome and not too sweet. Sweet tartar sauce is one of my pet peeves and seems to be unavoidable in the South. Tartar here comes in a tiny container. Had to ask for extra tartar twice. Would definitely return. Might try a meat pie next time. Restaurant has a pretty good view of a lake too.

First time visit and was very impressed. Ordered the half meal of Cod Fish-n-Chips, fries, and a soda. I was told beforehand the whole meal will have you taking a nap under your desk at work. Bright soccer jerseys everywhere - check, soccer on TV - check, very polite staff - check, and plenty of seating - check. Our party of 3 hit the front door at high noon. We stood in line for about 3 minutes, ordered, were given our drink cups, made it to the soda machine and found a place to sit. Although it was busy, there was still plenty of places to sit and others are right, when the nice weather really hits, more seating outside. We BSd for about 10 minutes and our food was brought out. The half order was the perfect amount of food. Also, they had tartar sauce and vinegar at each table. I have been to other Fish-n-Chips places where you have to ask for vinegar. Really? I need the vinegar! Greasy? Yep. Healthy? Probably not, but so full of flavor and the damn stuff melts in your mouth. Waitress stopped back several times to check on us and chit chat. For the amount of food you receive, the prices were reasonable. This might be my new favorite place to eat lunch. Well done!

I have traveled the world. This fact is only important regarding this review as during my travels I have had proper exceptional Fish & Chips. American establishments tend to make mistakes regarding presentation, incorrect batter, and they often use previously frozen fish. Not at GB. Bar none GB Fish & Chips in Denver is the best in Colorado and potentially the United States. Perfectly batter fried cod, prawns, oysters, and scallops. On Tuesdays they have dollar fish day, a dollar a piece. They also have a decent bar, tons of TV's with sports on at all times, and other delicious British offerings such as Meat Pies and Sausage Rolls. If you love Fish & Chips then this is the only choice. Forget the others and get to BG Fish & Chips.

No complaints here. Last night my boyfriend and I tried out GBs for the first time, and got there around 8:30pm. It wasn't packed, but that is also because it was snowing and they close at 9pm. The woman at the front taking orders was super cool and helped us out. We ended up sharing a full order of Cod Fish-N-Chips, and the bangers with mashed potatoes & caramelized onions. Both were awesome. The mustard that came with the bangers is intense, but we both liked it. It overpowered the taste of the bangers, but it added a nice kick. I could go with or without the mustard. The Fish-N-Chips was perfect. The fish was perfectly cooked with a nice crisp outer layer. The fries (chips) weren't anything special, but it all went great together. Will totally go back.

We are in town for softball tourney and tuned to yelp for help on where to eat lunch... Reviews sent us here and we had a great lunch. Very friendly staff and food was very good. We got the prawns and chips and the fish and chips. We will be coming back here again for sure next time we are in town‼

Everything at GB is greasy greasy greasy, but that is why it is so amazing. Yours fingers are covered in it, but your taste buds and stomach are very happy. I really don't think you could go wrong with anything that you order here. Friendly staff and they are super quick at making your food. I typically go with the tilapia and Brian gets the squid. With a side order of the sausage rolls, baked beans and a few beers, this meal is complete. They have the best fish and chips I have ever had. I highly recommend visiting sometime.

Ive passed by several GB Fish and Chips locations in the past, but this is my first visit. I ordered the half order of scallops with fries and a Session beer. The food was pretty fast, not incredibly greasy, and pretty decent quality. I also really like the quirkyness of the place. Lots of soccer jerseys hanging from everywhere. Its pretty cool that they have happy hour in the weekends too ($2 Session beers). I wish they would offer a 1/2 and 1/2 side option (to maybe get fries and crisps, instead of having to pick one).

This place was just okay. The service is ok... I assumed since this is a fish and chips place they would have a great variety but they just didn't.

We liked the ambience immediately with the brightly colored futbol jerseys and English decor. The fish and chips basket was recommended to us to try the cod. The cod was good and the batter was crisp. The french fries could have been better, they were nothing special in that they were frozen steak fries. Abetter touch would be fresh cut fries. We tried a cornish pasty which was a little bit of a disappointment when compared to the ones we had in England. The pastry was a bit dry and the filling was ground beef, carrots, potatoes and was very salty. We had pasties before with a rich gray inside. I will say that it was temperature appropriate...hot and steaming when we got it. We had the clam chowder that is made in house but the chowder was a bit watery and a big difference from the Ivar's Clam Chowder we are used to in the West Coast. Good selection of beers.

I enjoy eating foods that make me feel manly. Street tacos and burgers. Fingery, messy, inexpensive, off-the-street type things that aid in my feeling rugged, low maintenance, common, and run-down by the pace of life. Fish and Chips fall into this category. Greasy and simple. Two deep fried objects lying adjacent to each other on waxy paper, or thrown together willy-nilly into a brown paper bag to be consumed by someone wearing work boots and an orange vest. Rudimentary. One greasy step removed from being in their basest form of existence. Potatoes. Fish. Vat of oil. That'll be $6.50. In the past my desire for fish n chips has mostly been based on this desire for baseness and machismo. Because how they ended up tasting was usually a let-down. When biting into the battered fish I could predictably depend on encountering two completely separate levels of texture. One texture for the batter. Crispy. And one for the fish. slightly tough. Always tougher than I was hoping for. But at GB Fish n Chips there was only one uniform sensation. Crispy, tender yumminess with the slight hint of fish scent roaming up through my nasal conchae. I've lived in the UK and i've lived in New Zealand. But I'm most pleased with what I've found here on Colfax. As a side. I'd give anything for them to start using real potatoes for their fries. They would be my first 5 star review. The fries are the only real weekness. Big potatoey by-product type things.

Having moved to Denver from the North Carolina coast, we miss great seafood, and especially fish and chips. GB Fish & Chips did not disappoint! My husband and I cleaned our baskets with haste and eyeballed our family members' leftovers!

This is my happy place. Best fish and chips, tartar and curry sauce. One word for it all...YUM. I need to try other things on the menu...but the fish and chips are soooo good. Wash it down with a beer...happy place.

My Wife LOVES Fish which pretty much means I love fish. This is so NOT true, but I do actually enjoy myself when I come here. Along with Superior Fried Fish (I will actually eat the Tilapia which, is an EPIC accomplishment for any Fish establishment to pull off) they have very nom Meat Pies, Pasties, Shepard Pies and various other non-gill offerings. The Sheperd's Pie is a little sweet and ... worcestershire-y for my taste but the crust is a crust lover's dream. The Meat Pies are absolutely on the mark using the same crust in a different form factor but with a different sauce (think more of a brown gravy and less of a steak sauce in flavor). Food does seem to take a while regardless of how busy the place is but I think the freshness of fried goodies is the result so I mention that as more of a "be ready to wait for noms" than a "GOD THEY SUCK" kind of comment. Also: Strongbow! (in a can... but still!) Tilapia Tuesdays cannot be beat for Fish Addicts on a budget ($1 a Piece no limit!) Their only real peccadillo is the bench seating for most tables is not terribly comfortable and the bathrooms are passable at best (a pet peeve of mine).

Made it back to GB again this last week. Still loving this place. The most authentic Fish and Chips around. You just cannot go wrong here. Lots of choices, friendly staff. Be sure and park in the right place, not at the doughnut shop, I understand they are still towing.

Greasy very overpriced fish and chips establishment that nickels and dimes you. Long John Silvers is a much better deal. Lunch for 2 was $24 for 6 pieces of cod, some fries, coleslaw and 2 drinks. Fish and potatoes from a fryer and drinks from a fountain with no wait service should not be that expensive. Maybe I'd go back for $1 talapia Tuesday...

Authentic British bangers and mash and very tasty Cornish pasties. The is not much seating but you can share tables

I love the Cod Fish and chips. They actually give you some fish and I love the batter they are fried in. Also love the homemade large cut fries. Don't forget to order an extra side of tarter sauce. I will keep coming back So don't change a thing.

    (5)
  • Lance L.

Hands down the best Fish & Chips you will find anywhere! $1 Tilapia Tuesday is pretty awesome, but please note the pieces are truly smaller and may require ordering a few extra to get your fill. There's a spot to put in a tip when paying with credit while ordering. Not sure why unless you're getting bar service. Pretty much walk up, place your order and they will bring it to you. They should put a tip bucket out if your requesting them and if I am getting good service I will tip at the end. If you're a fan of Fish & Chips, this is the place!

Not nearly as good as it used to be :-( Sweetie had visited twice before, both times about 4 years ago. He raved about the place. He being English by birth, and loving good real fish and chips, his praise really meant something. Fast forward four years. We both visited GB. The experience was not very good. One main problem: the exterior of the fried fish was extremely greasy. Grease-logged. So greasy that after a few bites, the stomach turned quesy. Kind of gross. Another main problem: the chip insufficiency (that could be a Big Bang Theory episode title). Sweetie ordered his 1/2 order of cod with a side of chips ($1.65 extra). When he received his basket of food, there was a small quantity of chips beneath the fish strips. Okay. We then noticed something, something that was disturbing to chip lovers. If someone ordered a side of chips apart from anything else, that person received a full basket of chips. If someone ordered a side of chips for the exact same price, but as part of a fish order, the quantity of fries was about 1/3 the other quantity. No kidding. Huge difference. And, really, fries are so darned cheap, it seems odd that a place wouldn't just pile on the fries. Causes people to drink more beer, too. Another main problem: my half Combo meal wasn't good. At all. The half order came with 2 scallops, 2 shrimp, 2 tilapia strips, and 1 cod piece (ha ha). I was expecting sea scallops (as one would get in England), but instead received 2 tiny bay scallops. Each smaller than a little marble. And, oddly, they rattled (yes, rattled) around inside the fried exterior. The shrimp were small and tasteless. The tilapia strips were tiny. Only the cod was decent (after I stripped off the grease-logged exterior). I noticed, looking around at other people's meals, that the fish pieces were far smaller than those given to people who had ordered just fish. At $8.15 for the seafood alone, this was a terrible deal. Would NOT recommend. The only bright spot- the woman behind the counter was very pleasant and helpful. She even came out to wipe off a recently vacated table for us without being asked to do so. Good woman! Sweetie was very disappointed. He had grand plans to visit GB every time we go to Denver. Sadly, not going to happen.

The fish is nice and tender in the middle while the outside is delightfully crunchy! Service is great. Kids eat free on Sunday's and the portions are large.

Good fish...not super-greasy. I can take or leave the chips(fries). I don't like that everything is a la carte. I don't know what the brown sauce supposed to go with. The fish? Or the fries? It tastes like thick brown gravy that would be better with white rice. Last, but not least, Dan K. provided excellent customer service that night. Give him a raise.

First time here and loved it. For $10 I got 3 large pieces of Cod, cup of baked beans and a drink. Can't beat that for some fresh Fish N' Chips! Fish tasted great, batter was nice and crispy. Baked Beans were nothing spectacular but still good. Cup was a little small and really, that's my only complaint for the place. Tried my friends fries and they seemed like typical good tasting steak fries. It's a very basic looking place but I don't need fancy pants stuff to eat. Definitely one of the best Fish N' Chip places in town!

I had been craving Fish & Chips - all the places near my home had closed....when I hit Denver Roni said you have to try GB Fish & Chips it's the BEST! I ordered the combo and I will never forget the sweet buttery taste of the scallops - getting a full order of them next time! Crispy - not greasy - really light beer batter coating! The classic Cod & Chips are an easy recommendation but if you want yummmmmm get the scallops!

  • Jeanette H.

Oh yes! Really great! Proper proportion of batter to fish --fish in every bite & nice & crispy. Frys are good too, chunky & crispy. An earlier post mentioned greasy -- well everything is fried, it's not your low calorie meal. Crispy fried is GOOD! Highly recommend if you're into fish n chips!

After two visits (the latest of which was not long ago after a freezing Broncos game/win) I can honestly admit I'm anxious to return. I absolutely love their cod, their tartar sauce is perfect, and the fries (with vinegar that is readily on any table, of course) hit the spot. I can't give five stars because service leaves a bit to be desired, but that's not what you come for. Also, we tried the Shepards pie and it appeared to be heated in the microwave from a freezer container. Still tasty, and I suppose what you'd expect from a non-upscale place, but skip it for the namesake. (A full order will comfortably feed two, unless one of the two is capable of super-human consumption) Also, I was fortunate enough to try the chowder last time. Fantasticly tasty. Wonderful flavor. I look forward to the bangers and mash at some point... IF I can break away from the hand dipped fish.

Amazing food! This is best fish n chips I have had in Denver, hands down. The traditional cod is great, chips are wonderful. Never soggy or greasy, always crispy breading and tender fish. I love going on Tuesdays for 1$ a piece tilapia. Not as great as the cod, but for $1 who can pass that up? Staff is really great! Super friendly and attentive. I met the owner once and he is really nice! He is from England and has a cool story for every funny picture on the wall :) I can't wait to go back and eat more fish n chip!

  • L L.

Delicious, fresh made food at very reasonable prices. I had the combo (each fish was delicious and fresh) and also got a side of curry sauce to go with my chips. Loved every bite, My pal had the cod and chips and said is was the best fried fish he'd ever had. He kept talking about how fresh and light the fish was. Although the fish is fried, the batter is light enough to allow you to still taste the fish. Our server was helpful and fun, say "hi" to her from me.

Meh is right. As an ex-pat the one thing I crave more than anything after living here for 8 years is decent fish and chips. Authentic this isn't and I left feeling disappointed once again. If your going to surround yourself with union jacks, dart boards and premier league football on the telly at least deliver the real article. The #1 thing any self respecting chippy knows is to get the chips right. The chips here are frozen and straight from a packet. I could have bought these in King Supers. They tasted like oven steak fries. English chips should be fresh made, on-site, fat and soggy. We all know this. Some of my chips were even undercooked which further goes to prove they are frozen. The fish was tasty and the batter nice. But as always with US fish and chip shops the fish is too skinny. This place has great potential. Please go to England and see how it should be done.

Best fish and chips I've found in Denver. Consistently good every time; lunch and dinner. Fried to order; piping hot. The wait is only based on how crowded they are.

Fried food....is there really anything else that needs to be said? The GB is went to is on Central Broadway just before the I 25 intersection. A very popular place with a very crowded parking lot and a little resentment with the Winchell's next door. GB is rather small inside or maybe its all of the people standing shoulder to shoulder with each other waiting for a communal table to share their food with a total stranger. The menu has all sorts of seafood, but because I'm allergic to fishy fish and because it was around St. Patty's day, I went for the bangers and mash. Great carmelized onion and some really strong horse radish mustard. Excellent sausage. I even got to sample my friends fried oysters and they were good. If your into fried foods, GB does it right and even though I'm not a British kind of guy or into soccer, this place has a strong culture for it. All in all a pretty neat spot.

Great spot for Fish n Chips. The first time we went the fish and fries were a bit undercooked, but the most recent time, both had a nice crisp to them. Also, $0.75 PBRs all day Monday's!

  • Thaddius B.

I have eaten at this one and the one on Colfax both are good and I am sure I will eat there again but not my top fish n chips in Denver. The batter just lacks a little flavor to me and I have gotten slightly undercooked Cod one time. That being said they are a good addition to Denver food scene and they do not just do fried fish they have oysters, squid, scallops and prawns and other motherland delights. The fried seafood is not as good as you will get in other parts of the country but it is nice to have a quick reasonable priced option for this type of food in Denver so Kudos for that!! Also the staff has always been great at both locations!!

  • Dominic D.

Stumbled upon this place through some work friends. It's definitely way legit. It's a grease -fest that's for sure. I ordered the cod and it was big pieces and very tender. It comes with steak fries. If I ever find myself near there I could see myself going back.

My husband had the fried Cod with fries, and I had fries and coleslaw. In my opinion the food was just average. It wasn't bad but it wasn't fantastic either. The food was fresh and hot, but lacked any seasoning or flavor. Perhaps that's the way it's meant to be, but it doesn't make me want to necessarily hurry back for more. The staff was super friendly!

I have a blast when I come here. Traditionally I was never a fish and chips fan until these good chippers started showing up. These guys not only do cod, but tilapia as well. Don't like fish? Try the scallops, shrimp, oysters, or squid! This place is addictive I just found out about the curry sauce! Damn, how did I ever get by without it? Try the one on Colfax too...

I feel like I may have had a different experience here than other people. We were still hungry after a Yelp Elite event up the street and decided to give GB Fish and Chips a try. I absolutely loved the GB bar atmosphere. Picnic tables on the inside with a casual vibe. We decided to share an order of Cod Fish and Chips. It looked amazing and piping hot. I was a bit underwhelmed with the fish. Not sure on the reason but the fried outside came off in one big piece when cut or bit into. I know this isn't normal for fish and chips. It was okay, not great. The fries were good. And the size received for the price is definitely a deal if the quality was there. Maybe it was just this visit - I'm trying to be optimistic here. Important to note that you only get like one tablespoon of tartar sauce so make sure to ask for extra up front so it's not a hassle. I will give GB Fish and Chips another try in the future in the hopes of a better experience, this one was just meh!

Would have given 5 stars but the lady that took our order is not warm and friendly. Too up tight, came on Sunday kids eat free which is great. I ordered meals and was strictly told that the beer doesn't count as a drink and you have to order a meal to get the free kids meal. I have no problem with that is the way she came across, like a drill instructor. She needs to be a little warmer. . Great place

Service was great, the food was excellent (I had the cod & chips) and they had malt vinegar at the table in clean bottles. The staff all are happy and talkative and the set up is great. Convenient location, great parking and price! I'll certainly be back.

I have taken many friends here for a taste of home away from the ocean. Fish has been perfect every time with the cod hitting the spot best. Scallops are delicious and curry as a side makes a tasty dipping sauce. I highly recommend this location and splitting a large combination order your first time.

This is a very traditional fish and chips place. The food was really good, although being very traditional means no veggies or anything healthy in the slightest. They do have happy hour on Mondays though, $3 for a small glass of wine. Casual hangout place with long wooden tables and concrete floors. Good staff.

I REALLY liked the fish. The batter was crisp and the fish was delicious. The chips/fries were a complete disappointment. They weren't very fresh, nor were they crisp. If you have Fish AND Chips in your name, then I feel that equal attention needs to be paid to the chips/fries. Before going, I read several reviews. The common theme was the skimpy portion of tartar sauce. Keeping that in mind, I ordered extra tartar sauce, which cost $1. When I got home with it, there was very little tartar sauce. If they forgot to give me extra I'm annoyed since I made such a point to order it and PAID for it. If the amount I ended up with WAS extra, I'm even more annoyed. I ordered FISH. I am accustomed to having tartar sauce to eat with it. Overall, my first (and probably only) visit to GB Fish and Chips, was mostly a disappointment.

Always my go-to place for Fish N Chips. When I go to other places I'm usually disappointed as the fish is raw or the batter is not that great. Not here! Plus the friendly and helpful service is always appreciated. Looking forward to swinging by tonight!

  • Bonny B.

EXCELLENT! Yes, they give a small amount of Tartar Sauce, but that's not what your coming for. Your coming for the FISH! Great customer service, friendly atmosphere, clean and quick. One note!!!! DO NOT PARK IN THE WINCHELL'S PARKING LOT! You will be TOWED! The owner abruptly wanted to double the rent on G&B from 600.00 to allow G&B customer's to park there. Needless to say G&B did the right thing and quit the relationship. Poor business decision by Winchell's I say. I won't be obtaining any donuts from them until they become better neighbors to G&B.

I was about to write a yelp review about something else and GB's popped up when I opened my yelp app. I figured since I'm here right this moment I'd leave a quick review. Good fish and chips. Having spent plenty of time in the UK I can say their fish n chips is as close to authentic British fish n chips that I've had in the states, especially with the addition of mushy peas to their menu. Yum! Service is great too!

Stopped in Sunday on a whim and we are happy to say that it was awesome. Food was fantastic. Service was unexpectedly fast and genuinely friendly. We just had the cod and chips but I will be back to try all the foods on their menu. It hit the spot with our 3 generation family. I told a friend that they have bangers and mash she is coming with us. I had a PBR for 75 cents!

Good Old Fashion English Eats GB Fish and Chips was the first place we went to eat once moving to Denver! It was convenient because it was right in Englewood on Broadway where we were staying. This is their other location in the city. We had just flew in from a layover in LA from Hawaii and we were starving!!!! I whipped out my trusty Yelp App to see what we had going on in the area and this place stood out because I love fish and chips!!!!! :D One thing I loved about this place from the get go was that they are so England, yet so Denver! The best of both worlds! You see a pub style when you walk in to the restaurant, but outside it has beautiful graffiti near the outside dining area! There's an old style dart board if you want something to do after eating, besides watching the game and grabbing another pint ;D And there are jerseys hung all around the place so you know this place is big on sports. Also the staff are friendly and helpful. Now, on to the food!!!! The fish and chips was exactly what I wanted after all that traveling!!! Crisp and flakey batter with a tender, substantial amount of fish in the middle! Definitely one of the best versions I've had :) You may need two cups of tartar sauce, but they won't change you extra. They just ask you conserve and don't waste, which is so Denver!!! Love it!!! The fries or "chips" are like steak fries!!! Another reason to love them! Crunchy and meaty potato sticks, which I shoved in my mouth with two hands!! Yes, they deserve to be known for their fish and chips! *raising the roof* Lol! Another English staple I tried was their shepards pie. This I was not too thrilled about because it just looks pre made in a plastic container and then popped into the micro/oven... The presentation wasn't that appetizing and the taste was just okay. I am sure they probably make it in house but, I've had better at The Cheesecake Factory. Which is funny, but its pretty great there! On top of the food they also serve a variety of beer (American and British). I loved my first eating experience in Denver and this will be my place for fish and chips when I need my fix!

I really like the menu design. You can be a lady or you can be a pig; half/full is 3/6 pieces of fish, or you can half fish/half fried shrimp or clams. Sides are ala carte, but very reasonably priced. I'm a fries and slaw kind of girl. Here's the 5 star holdback: the counter girl is unnecessarily loud, bordering on obnoxious. no booths, just benches- thanks for the thigh chafe. fish is sometimes too greasy (not drained in the basket for a few seconds just dumped straight onto my fries). paper cup slaw- can't stir S&P without making a mess, skimpy cup size tartar (they will give you more at no charge, just give me enough the first time), iced tea is over brewed/too strong. I don't mean to be harsh here, I do like what they do. It's just that fish and chips is very caloric and this place is pricey (about $30 for 2 people) so the expectation is that it knock my socks off. I know that may be unreasonable, but hey- I'm here to tell it how I see it. Most of these kinks are easily fixable, cost nothing and improve the overall dining experience.

Amazing! I absolutely love this place. Go here every Monday cause the happy hour is all day Monday. What beats 75 cent PBR? Anyways I have read through the reviews and a lot of you agree with me. The ones who do not are complaining about grease. All I have to say is " your ordering fried fish and fried potatoes. What do you think they cook it in Smart balance and happy feels?" Sarcasm aside I see your point about the tartar sauce. However , I always ask for extra and have NEVER been charged $1 or any amount for that matter. Lies! If you are going to review a place put your personal feelings aside and be honest please. Anyways! The atmosphere is perfect the fish and chips are not exactly tradition but they are good. The meat pies are awesome! The shepard's pie is good but the container worries me as I do not think they prepare it on the spot. Nice selection of beers! Friendly staff! What more could you want?

GB fish and chips is the best fish and chips in Denver in my opinion. I especially like their prawns/Cod. Tuesdays PBR's are only a dollar, I can get hammered at the mini-bar and watch European Premier league soccer listen to good music which is typically reggae or something mellow. It may take a couple minutes longer than a typical fast food place but it's definitely worth it because they're back battering every order made to order.

The fish is really crisp and fresh. I am very picky about fries ( I don't even see what all the hype is around Thatcher's fries in Ocean City, MD) so I wan't impressed with the fries but I have to say they were fresh and cooked well. Most people would probably like them. I make fish and chips at home sometimes. I have a great beer batter recipe and I don't feel like their fish was any better than mine. But I do stop in when I am really craving fried fish. After reading some of these reviews, I want to go back and try some of the other british fare. It is not a pub but more of a small fast foodish place. They serve beer in case you want to wash down your fish and chips with a cold one. I will continue to come by for lunch when craving fried fish.

This place has kick ass fried seafood and chips, great service and a decent ambiance. GB's is not cheap but the quality is high. If there is a better place to eat fish and chips in Denver, please let me know.

Awesome flaky fish and great options like squid and bangers. Service at this location is always top notch, even when busy. Cant go wrong with .75 cent PBR's!

Came here after a yelp event across the street where they didn't give us enough food! This place can be a smidge confusing! There is a parking lot to the side and door over there - don't go in that door, go in the front door, then you are facing the menu and the cash register where you can order! We went with fried calamari and fried cod - both were very tasty with a large batter to item ratio! Woot! Definitely get the extra tarter sauce - kinda weak for a fish and chip place to charge for extra since what they give you is smaller than a thimble, but it is what it is! 75 cent PBR's mostly made up for it! :) Definitely a good grease laden meal, but good to finish off the day!

I have been going since this place opened. The Calamari is still my favorite but the Cod is to die for. Malt vinegar of course is the only way to go

This was my review for 10.23.2013, but I saw it was filtered! I did more research and found that A LOT of the 1-2 star reviews are filtered... Do business owners sit around flagging bad reviews? ---------- I tried this for the first time and it was okay; I did a takeout. My boyfriend and I shared 3 pieces of cod and 2 sides of fries. The wait was less than 10 minutes. Very casual atmosphere and decor, which I really liked! Anyhoo, the food was really greasy and it came with a tablespoon of tartar sauce. Really? It came in those paper ketchup cups you used to see at McDonald's in the 90's. The fish was beautiful; flaky and moist. However, it lacked serious flavor. I had to douse it in vinegar... I hate to say this, but my boyfriend said that long johns silver is less greasy and has more taste. I will admit I have to agree, but such a bummer that the fish didn't pull through.

good food. share your table. fish and chips good stuff! I raised it to 4 starts because even though I would feel strange sharing table space, the food was good. I usually do not like breaded fish we went there because my husband does. He loved the fish and chips! He might give it 5 stars. : )

Best fish and chips in Denver! Not GB's biggest, or newest location (and they're all good with the same food btw), but the Broadway location has the hole-in-the wall authentic feel that makes it so much fun. The fish is always fresh, the batter flakey and delicious, and the food hot as it is served straight from the fryer to your table- made fresh to order, never pre-made. The cash register girls aren't always the most cheerful (3 1/2 stars- they're never rude, just not consistently Denver first class), but the food is ALWAYS the best. Only thing that could possibly make this fish any better would be to wrap it in a real British newspaper and serve it in England. They even have meat pies! Go try it! You'll go back time and time again.

Blimey! 'At's some tasty fish! We came here Saturday night after much carousing and barhopping in need of some substance that could soak up all the beer pooling in our stomachs. And since fish like to swim.... I remember trying to eat here once last year during Lent on a Friday, and the line was so ridiculously long we decided to move along. I know regret that it took me so long to try it. It was later in the evening this time, so there was no wait. We ordered two baskets, one of the cod and one of the tilapia. The cod was nice and fresh and very flaky, but the tilapia was simply awesome! I loved the batter and it was served up quickly. The chips were not as special, just standard pub-style fries. For as good as the fish was I was hoping for a bit more from the spuds. A little extra seasoning, batter fried, something. Still, no complaints, just a friendly critique. The dining room is simple and small and suited our dine-and-dash needs just fine. Parking isn't phenomenal here, but it's still worth a trip for the taste. Some good looking options of British Isle fare as well, I'm interested in coming back for some of everything! Cheers!

As close as you'll find to an English chippy in Denver. Two kinds of fish (cod and tilapia) and four kinds of shellfish (calamari, oysters, scallops and shrimp) made in a REALLY tasty batter and served hot and freshly-cooked. Lots of sides to choose from if you're not in the mood for chips - crisps, beans, cole slaw, etc. They also have other traditional English chippy food - pasties (meat pies with veggies - either Cornish (beef) or Curry Chicken) and pork pies - ground pork in a pastry shell served with a little dish of scrumptious HP Sauce. Their bangers and mash are particularly good. Try the curry sauce for dipping your chips in - it's very tasty and a bit exotic for Denver.

I usually avoid most types of seafood by any means but once I tried a piece of a co- workers meal, I've been back three times in two weeks. I've only tried the cod but it literally melts in your mouth it's so good. And the tartar sauce...I may have to buy a couple jars of that for personal use! My only complaint are the steak fries, they're mediocre but I just drown them out with tartar sauce anyway. The staff are some of the best employees I've ever seen work at a restaurant. Very friendly and attentive. Five stars all around, props!

Yummy fish and chips! I took my Dad here for a Thursday evening dinner around 7p.m. There was a line and the indoor tables were all taken. I had the cod and chips, my pops tried the tilapia and coleslaw. The open kitchen (read - fryer room) had a couple of guys busy with battering, frying and filling orders. It did take about 20 minutes to get our food, but they were busy. The fish was fresh, cooked to order, Fries were the steak - fry variety. Both were tasty and complimented well by their tartar sauce and malt vinegar. This was my second time here. I may just have to return to try the scallops, or oysters, or prawns, or calimari. Everything on the menu sounded great! Mmmmm, deep fried, beer battered seafood.......

This place is nice and the food is good, but I have to say that the fish is not as good as Yorkshire on Federal. They kick the crap out of Yorkshire on all other fronts except FLAVOR. I had the basket of cod and chips and I thought it was good, just not as good as Yorkshire. The dining room was very clean, and well decorated and the service was fast. Will I eat here again, sure, but if I'm jonesing for fish and chips I'll make the drive to Yorkshire. The cod here was just not as flavorful.

I lived in Scotland for a year, and I'm pretty sure that meat pies are the most underrated thing on the entire planet. So when I found out that there was a place in Denver serving them up, I had to get over to GB Fish and Chips as soon as I could! And it didn't disappoint. Their cornish pasty is freaking DELICIOUS, not to mention gargantuan. Yeah it was $10 for the pasty, chips (steak fries), and a drink, but that's pretty standard for lunch nowadays. This pasty filled me up and was exactly the flavors I knew and loved. The steak-fry chips were just OK, and not very authentic of what you get over in the UK, but they're very good fries and go great with salt and vinegar. I'll definitely be back for some fried fish, but I don't know if I'll be able to pull myself to order anything other than a meat pie or a sausage roll when I go!

Is it just me, or has the quality of the fish here gone down recently? And the parking situation is now just dreadful. This place used to be one of my favorite spots to have a guilty pleasure lunch. The fish was amazing, flaky and prefect, the chips crisp and they serve beer, what's not to love right? Sure it's about double the price for lunch anywhere else, but I'd happily make that my 'splurge' once a month. Now, after 3 mediocre lunches in as many months, I'm done. Don't need to go back. I'm not sure if this is cross GB's everywhere, but the quality of the fish seems to have taken a steep decline. Tough if parts and chewy in others. Sometimes still cold inside, blech. Plus, the parking lot they once shared with Winchells Doughnuts is now off limits to GB customers, meaning you have to navigate the tiny, cramped parking lot in the back, or find one of less than half a dozen street spots in front. This is made worse by the fact that construction workers, working on the new building across the street are taking up most of the parking. Hope they get their act together and fix things, I'll need to hear some raves from friends about improvement before I'll bother trying GB again.

I don't like it - I love it I want some more of it This is a gem LOL Seriously, I had no idea this place was even here - even though I frequent Pasquini's across the street. The steak fries are the ish. And .75 PBR's during HH ...For reals? The staff is amazingly fun and courteous. Hey girls don't miss the poster of Cristiano Ronaldo in the ladies restroom. really!

Personally, my pick for the most grease content per meal in Denver, as well as the most unhealthiest place to eat in Denver is GB Fish & Chips. The GB must stand for the "Grease Box". Thickly battered frozen slabs of questionable fish dripping with grease, glistening pools of grease left on the plate and zero vegetables unless you count soggy, mushy potato wedges as veggies. Frankly I was raised on two bays, Tampa and Chesapeake and therefore I am a true seafood lover. I was taught as a kid that you broil, char-grill, sautéed, blacken or smoke quality fish and that once the whole fish's eyes turn cloudy, you then fillet that fish, fry it in grease to cover the staleness of the fish and then serve it up to the unsuspecting tourists. The locals don't eat fried seafood. At least not like they cook it at GB, drenched in grease. Plus there was always fresh, healthy veggies served with our seafood. In the year 2012 I ate at the B'wy GB twice. The first time I decided to try the pork pastie or pie and chips. I confess that I like my pork! Sausages, bacons, scrapple are things I try to avoid for the most part, though I love them. This pork pie though was something I would not order again. (About one mile down B'wy there's Billy's Gourmet Hot Dogs, which serves some great sausages, even duck!) I thought french fries should be crispy, but these are not french fries here, they a soft, mushy potato wedges or "chips", mostly still white and glistening with grease. Yuk! The GB shops are the perfect example of how unhealthy a restaurant can be and still have customers. Basically I have to think the people that go back there simply do not care about their health. They certainly don't know real seafood and how it should be cooked. There's so many great places for seafood in Denver these days, I don't understand why anyone goes here! Plus for the $$$, they are over-priced for some greasy fish, fries and a soft drink for $10.00+, are you kidding me!?!!? The UK is known throughout the planet as having some of the worst food there is. This is a great example of how bad British food can be! Everything here is fried in grease or microwaved, except the drinks! Go to Long John Silver's, you would be better off, greasy fish for less $. And they probably won't charge a buck for extra tarter sauce. Usually tarter comes in a squeeze bottle like ketchup and you just use as much as you need. I refuse to use tarter sauce on fish, so I didn't know until reading some of the other reviews that they charge $1.00 for extra tarter sauce!!! If you truly want some excellent fried fish go to one of the many Vietnamese (Ca Chien) or Hong Kong Style places not far away or some of the Mexican places known for their Huachinango (red snapper) or majarro (tilapia). Perfectly crispy on the outside, moist, white and flaky on the inside and no detection of grease. But no tarter sauce available. For few places in Denver with excellent seafood available, please see my other reviews. Sooooooo gooooood! I just...cant describe how well the fish is prepared. It's crispy on the outside, but perfectly soft and perfectly cooked on the inside. There's no linger liquid batter, there's no burnt to a crisp edge, there's no fish that's not fried to perfection. And they have Guinness. It's in a can but bloody hell it's a Guinness! The chips leave a bit to be desired, they're pretty average. They also serve pretty tiny portions of tartar sauce (us fat kids like tartar sauce!) but the fish portions are fairly generous. The ladyfriend and I went in on a Saturday evening, and the place was nearly empty. Only a few people hanging around enjoying the deliciousness that is GB's. Service was quick, beer was perfectly just below room temperature (the lady just had some soda) and the fish was just awesome. I had the regular cod, she had Haddock, which was apparently only available for a limited time. It wasn't too greasy, it wasn't too "not-greasy", it was just right. I thought it was a little expensive for what it was, though. Though I suppose when you're buying fish it's never really that cheap -- but I thought $25 for a half meal of haddock, a half meal of cod, a guinness and a soda was a touch steep. That being said, this isn't going to stop me from going back. Service was friendly, and the cooks even threw in an extra cod piece for me. Hm. Let me try that again, they threw an extra piece of cod in for me. No codpieces involved! I dont know why they did -- I presume they saw the size of my gut and figured if I wasn't fed and soon they'd have to call the authorities, but it doesn't matter why. They were nice about it, and more than likely they accidentally dropped an extra piece in there, and the ladyfriend and I were more than happy to have an extra morsel of fried goodness on which we could nibble. One bit of fair warning, the Half Meal is plenty big for one person. So don't go in thinking you'll be able to knock down a whole meal by yourself. I think most people would find the half meal of any fish type quite satisfying. It's definitely a great stop for a quick and delicious meal of fish and chips. Oh, and do have a Guinness while you're there, it's only proper.

On a whim, I stopped by GB Fish and Chips. The fish was fantastic! It was tender and juicy on the inside and perfect golden brown and crispy on the outside. I am not an expert on fish and chips, but this was the best fried fish I have had. Yes, it is true you can pay extra for more tater sauce. However, as a huge sauce fan, I did not need more tater sauce than they gave me. The fish is so good you need not smother it in the tater sauce. The steak fries were good as well and a great compliment to the fish.

Another strategic find. Thanks Yelp. Good food. Probably not healthy, but not greasy which is how this could turn out at other places. Authentic English. Going further than most places who will only feed you the thing you've heard of. Also a grocery section so you can take these items home and try you own hand at it. I had a cornish pasty, the english emapanada, hot pocket, calzone, etc type of thing. Very good, more than I could finish. Just go. Not a pub, but they have darts. Dafe

I went to a fish and chips place and ordered a pasty. That's just how I roll. What's a pasty you may be asking? That's okay, I had to ask, too. I would describe it as a Pot Pie without the liquid meets a calzone. It's shaped sort of like a mini Calzone and full of meat, potatoes, and carrots and served with some sort of sauce on the side. And it was pretty good. Without the sauce it's a little dry so you have to like the sauce or you probably won't like the food. Other than that they have a wide variety of fish for your fish and chips. You can even get calamari. And they have wines and beers. Hooray! The atmosphere here is way casual. There are benches and long tables, a dartboard, reggae music and a patio. Don't come expecting anything fancy or even "pub-like" in the environment and you won't be disappointed. I also thought it was cool how they use wax paper with newspaper design rather than real newspaper. I don't like the way the print rubs off on me and I thought it was just clever.

I'm a California transplant and I've been looking for some great fish 'n chips here in Denver. I've been to the usual Irish and British pubs in LoDo and beyond, but to be honest they have all been passable, but mediocre; in my opinion, nothing special. Enter GB Fish and Chips: the cod tastes fresh, the batter is just right, the food is served piping hot and the prices are reasonable! The staff was friendly and even though I was eating by myself, I didn't feel out of place. Added bonus: they had an LA Galaxy scarf on the wall! For a diehard Galaxy fan like myself, it felt awesome to see that on the wall. Lots of Rapids stuff all around too, in addition to the usual Euro-based teams.

I have spent some time living across the pond amongst the fair and rowdy who would call themselves Brits. The fish and chips spots I ventured into whilst over there were all recognized as both a great value and a cultural institution. In some circles the fish and chips remains the UK's single greatest contribution to human cuisine. GB chips is a damn near perfect re-creation of the food, if not the actual environment of a traditional UK fish and chippery. The fried fish, any variety, are all light and crispy without any of the heaviness or greasy taste one might expect when the words deep fried are uttered. The chips themselves are thick cut chunks similar to a traditional chippery and are equally delicious and non-greasy. The faux newspaper that all the food sits atop inside the plastic little bins is equally reminiscent of a traditional chippery. The fact that this place offers Walker's crisps (potato chips) is only more refreshing and representative of the level of authentic detail the owners of GB have sought to recreate here at mile-high. I am not familiar with any other establishment here in Denver serving stand-alone fish and chips. The availability of a cold lager along with delicious and authentic tasting fish and chips makes GB a wonderful addition to the Denver food-scape. Yum!

I just love this place! The seafood is high quality, the batter is light and crispy, there is always a high fish-to-breading ratio, and the staff is friendly. It's a cozy little place, and it will be busy at peak hours, especially on weekend nights. However, the kitchen is quick, and my wait has never been unreasonable. They also carry the Crunchie bar (Cadbury), a candy bar that I learned to love while living in New Zealand, which is nearly impossible to find in the States. I always go there when I need my fix!

So I've been to Britain a couple of times and love fish and chips. It's a classic. I also grew up in Florida where we know a thing or two about frying up some seafood ("get it poppin like fish grease" is a real expression down there hehe). This place just didnt do too much for me. The fish and chips here aren't bad, but they're nothing amazing either. If I'm gonna pay $12 for this dish, I expect amazing. You can get a comparable meal at captain d's or long johns. In fact, I prefer the meal at either of those 2 places to this establishment's version. And they charge half the price. Also, they give you almost no tartar sauce unless you pay a dollar extra in which case they give you a huge portion of tartar sauce. Huh? They did have soccer on the tv, so hipsters take note that you and your poseur friends can come pretend to be cosmopolitan by watching a little "football on the telly." Haha. Not rushing back here.

This place specializes in fish and chips--meaning, get the fried fish. Don't get the sausages like I did. And you only get about 2 tbsp of tartar sauce, so you might want to ask for extra up front.

"In Cod We Trust" - I think I've found religion! My husband suggested we try GB Fish & Chips since we were on our way to the Mac Outlet (great place to buy/sell Mac stuff). I was enthusiastic as he never suggests a place for lunch unless he's seen good to great reviews. I was a bit apprehensive as, well lets face it, "fish and chips" means fried, greasy and fattening. I'm not prude when it comes to eating tasty high calorie delights but for me fish 'n chips is right up there with KFC - a guilty pleasure that I only allow myself once or twice a year. As soon as we got out of the car we could smell the food awaiting us - not in a bad (burnt oil and fishy fish) way but in a really good way which I'm not sure I can adequately describe. This place is obviously a favorite of many people, given the fact that all tables were full, and it was almost two in the afternoon. Most patrons looked like they do not feel the least bit guilty about eating a basket full of fried fish and french fries. A few actually looked like they had just stepped off a fishing boat (in Denver??). We decided to split the basic meal - Cod and chips. Fried Tilapia, prawns, oysters, squid, scallops or a combination of all of the above are also available however we believed the true test to be how good the Cod is. And it's good...really, really good. Large pieces of moist, flaky fish in a perfect crispy batter. Fried, but not overly greasy (the bottom of the basket had no grease puddles) this was the best fried fish I've had in a very long time. The "chips" were hot and good, but not really very special. I would have preferred a rough-cut, crisper potato, but this did not prevent me from loving this place. The restaurant itself was pleasant and well lit. I loved the fact that the kitchen - clean and within view - a plus when the everything you're eating comes out of a deep fat fryer. The gal who took our order was very friendly - she's obviously very proud of this establishment and she wanted to make sure that we enjoyed our experience - including the "Cheers!" when we left. Although we filled ourselves I never had that "oh my god, I'm stuffed" feeling. Nor did I have that "greasy food" hangover that often occurs several hours later. I wouldn't eat here every week (although I'd be tempted) but I'll definitely be back.

Well I think Bull & Bush just got edged out as my favorite place for fish and chips! I came here for a UYE and had a half order of their Cod Fish & Chips (glad I looked at the pics on yelp before I came) with a Boddington (beer). Very tasty, the batter was light and crispy and the fish was big chunks of fresh (relativey speaking) cod, three big pieces and a generous portion of fries. They have a decent selection of English/Irish beers - not too pricy. Word of advice though, don't put the malt vinegar on till right before you eat that piece - I made the mistake of dousing two of the pieces and before I got to the second it started to fall apart.

GB's Fish and Chips is not the best fish and chips I've had in Denver... They are the best fish and chips I've had ever! The delicious crispy crunch of a perfectly fried cod and steak cut chips combine for a meal of deep fried goodness. Along with their signature fish and chips menu of various fried seafood, they also offer other English specialties such as bangers & mash, pork pies, shepherd's pies, pasties, and more. GB's makes all of these English specialties in-house from scratch - which means they are legit! The food is pretty heavy, so be ready to feel full, sluggish, and satisfied. Not only is the food a delight to the senses, but the atmosphere emulates a real British sports pub. As a big football (soccer) fan, I feel right at home among the vast array of jerseys, soccer themed decor, and current soccer games playing on their HDTV's. I love to stop by GB's with a small group of friends when my Premiership team is playing and enjoy a good meal, good company, and good entertainment. The service is quick and friendly. Be sure to pick up a sticker from the register when you visit - they're wicked cool - and play a game of darts in the back. GB's Fish and Chips are truly top drawer! Go Tottenham Hotspurs and stay hungry my friends!

It's a British Style Pub where sports fans will find Soccer... I mean football and rugby playing throughout the restaurant/bar in the Antique District of Broadway. I ordered a full order of Cod and Chip. The fish was nice and tender. Not overcooked and dry or frozen. I paid about $16 for the full meal that included a drink. It seemed a little steep for what I got, but nevertheless, it was enough food. It came with six pieces of cod and chips and a drink. The chips were thick and nicely cooked. They went great with the tartar sauce, but I have to say two tiny servings of tartar sauce is barely enough. I didn't like the way the menu was written and it took me a while to figure out what I wanted. They seemed to break it down by portions and fish types. But for a fish and chips place seems odd that the chips cost extra unless you buy a meal. It took me a while to figure that out. Do people really order fish no chips??? Nice option, but this seems to confuse the entire menu board. The interior has nice touches of old British Pub Style with with sports memorabilia throughout. Also, the baskets holding the fish look like newspaper the way the British used to serve their fish and chips... Nice touch. Also, if you are looking for Beer they do have a great happy hour.

  • Optimus P.

Optimus has spent much time in England. Years, in fact. One thing I know: the fish in Fish'n'Chips is supposed to be cod. Could be pollock or haddock, but mainly you want cod. The firm yet flaky texture, delicate flavor, alabaster whiteness - it's all in there, baby. That's what you want. And GB does it friggin right. I don't know if GB is the owner's initials or just stands for 'Great Britain' - if it does, then they're certainly fulfilling they're obligation to reputation. The chips are just the right thickness: crisp on the outside and proper mash-like consistency on the inside. And of course, there's malt vinegar, salt, and pepper on every table. However, for those who crave it, they do throw some tartar sauce in each basket; if you're just way too used to American bar food, they also have coleslaw and backyard baked beans, both of which are rather good. For a little more, you can get a delicious warm curry dipping sauce, reminiscent of the Indian and Muslim corner shops in the UK. I have one gripe, though, and I'm not going to take a star off for it because the food they make is consistently phenomenal. The thing is, this place actually serves pasties and bangers'n'mash, yet they don't have British baked beans! Why the hell not? I'd much rather have British baked beans (the green Heinz can is a very popular import at Autobot home base) with my British breakfast, lunch, and dinner than American baked beans! I mean, I like both, but each has its place and shouldn't be inter-changeable. Just like I don't like replacing my refried beans with black beans as a 'healthy' option every Mexican joint seems to offer now. Screw that - give me what your mother intended, not what choice you think I want. Anyway, no points off, because it all really is delicious. (But add British beans, and I'll find a way to rate this place 6 stars - I mean it.) Optimus OI and OUT!

Best comfort food in Denver, bar none. I've had almost everything on the menu, aside from the scallops but I can't imagine they'd be anything less than the rest of what they serve. The squid is my favorite. If you want a super traditional meal, the cod and the chips is the way to go. It won't disappoint. I always get a 1/2 order, and anyone I've ever gone with has always gotten a 1/2 order as well. It's enough food, trust me. More than enough. Unless you really, really think you can eat 12 pieces of fish, AND all your tasty chips. Your call. Most of the complaints I see about pricing on here have to do with the full order sizes, but you don't need all that, really you don't. It's greasy and crispy and melt in your mouth buttery good. The ambiance is right on point, and it's always fun during a game. But there are quiet times too. My only complaints are that I wish they stayed open later, and I wish they gave you more tartar sauce damn it! I HATE having to get up in the middle of my meal to get another ketchup packet sized serving of tartar sauce (which is really good). I don't want to feel like I have to ration my tartar sauce the whole time. I want to just dump it all over my food and be done. GB's is truly great.

What I had? 3 pc. Cod, chips, and curry Food review: A few years ago, I had ventured over to GB Fish and Chips for the first time as it was rated best Fish and Chips in town by Westword that year. I had the cod and chips and really only found the fish to be so-so. I decided to give said fish one more try this past week and I was pleasantly surprised that it had tasted much better. The batter was simply tastier on the cod. Not sure what happened on the first try. Outside of that, I have been visiting GB Fish and Chips through out this past year for their chips and curry. I know that might sound odd to some of you but you have to give it a try sometime. The curry is wayyy tasty. I definitely love that combo. Service? I was a little reluctant to visit this place one more time as there is one person in particular that works there that can make for an awkward experience there. Granted everybody (even the person being mentioned) is quite friendly but I'd say.. if you can help it.. if said person is working there.. don't sit at "the bar" area. Otherwise, you might be in for some awkward conversation. :-s Outside of that, once again, the service is good.

Love GB fish and chips. Great comfort food with a English sports cub type of atmoshere but without the "pub" look. That would've made it 5 stars for me and more authentic. He place looks more like a garage with picnic tables but it is the food that makes the place. The fish was excellent and with a little salt, malt vinegar and a Bonington, I felt I was back in In Londontown. I liked it so much will add it to my list of lunch places and will try the Sloan's lake location next.

Checked out GB Fish and Chips for a late lunch on Friday. Oh yeah, it was Good Friday. That's why it seemed so busy. Ordered the Tilapia & Chips combo & waited. Seemed like it took longer than I thought it should for our order. The batter was hot & crispy, and the fish inside was very tender. Salivating just thinking about it a few days later. Chips were tasty with the right level crispiness. I do believe they know their way around a deep fryer. Malt vinegar, tartar sauce & other condiments rounded out the meal. Good stuff.

I LOVE this place. I am very, very grateful that I don't live any closer to this place or else I'd either have a heart attack or have to be rolled about like Violet Beauregard. Because of my distance, I will freely admit that I have not sampled anything on the menu other than the cod and chips. That being said, I don't really have any deep, burning desire to broaden my culinary horizons here, which is really rare for me! The crust on the cod is always perfectly crunchy and the fish moist and flaky. They are good enough to have malt vinegar for you to douse everything with, too, which makes everything even better. The atmosphere is nice, too - ostensibly, it's common-style seating where you can share tables as needed and it can be an interesting way to meet new people. It's perfectly-fried, terrible-for-you eats. What's not to like?

I cannot BELIEVE I have forgotten to review GB's until now. This place has reached "Institution" status in just a few short years for one reason: the food is AWESOME! Light, crispy, flash-fried top quality fish that is consistently perfect. I can't drive past GB's without getting a hankering for the grub there. I must admit that all I have had is the Cod. It was so good the first time I had it that I can't bring myself to order anything else off the menu. The staff is enthusiastic and friendly and you will get a real sense that they are proud to serve the food that they serve. They KNOW you are going to like it. Atmosphere is important, too. GB's nailed it. I love the park benches but I usually belly up the small bar area. I'm not a soccer guy but, if I were, I would practically live at GB's. They embrace the sport there. Fun, fast and YUMMY!

Very disappointed in this place service was lackluster no real energy. I was more disappointed by the food though we got half mealof scallops ($10) and the shepherds pie meal ($11). There were about 5 or 6 nickle sized scallops and the coleslaw seamed like it was bought off location and came in a small plastic ramequin. The shepherds pie came out with the quality of a microwave dinner. It's been awhile since I've felt so cheated out of my money. Simply put I don't think we will be back.

Every time I eat at GB's I ask myself why I don't eat there more often! Everything is very fresh and cooked when ordered, so your fried delights (I almost always go for the cod) arrive extra crispy and piping hot. I love biting into the crunchy, pillowy coating to find the moist and flaky fish inside. Since they opened several years ago they have changed the cut, so in a half-order you get three finger-like pieces rather than two planks, but that's OK, it's still plenty of food and I always leave satisfied. I've noticed other reviewers comment on the small portions of tarter sauce, so if you're a fan just ask for another cup (which holds about 1 1/2 T.) I should mention their sausage too. I've never ordered it to eat onsite, but I'll take a package home now and then to cook later. They're British in influence, too, with a grain filler added to the meat. The result is a very savory, pate-like texture that makes it awesome in to bite into ... yummy stuff!

Tried to go out on a budget and did a search of some of the most frequented restaurants under 10 bucks and found GB Fish and Chips. Don't let the single $ fool you because I ended up paying 16 bucks for a full meal of fried cod (six pieces) with 'chips' and a soda. IMO, that was a little too much for just a basket of fried food...don't get me wrong, the fish was delicious but was it worth that much? Not really. There's also this menacing sign not to park in the Winchell's parking spots without buying a donut. I kept an eye on my car during the entire meal wondering if I'd be booted or towed.

Communal tables.. I usually eat a half order of crunchy-juicy-battered Cod, with either a Newcastle Brown Ale or a Strongbow Cider to wash it down. I don't bother with the chips anymore they're just so-so and don't rock my world like the fish does.

As I've mentioned in previous reviews I grew up on the CA coast. So there are things I'm a snob about like Mexican food, burgers and fresh fish. That said, growing up in CA there weren't any places around that I could get good fish and chips. My dad was Glaswegian and took his fish and chips rather seriously, so when we had fish and chips at home he would buy the fish and do it himself. And while his were better than any wannabe shop in CA, even he argued it wasn't as good as back in the UK. Anyone who has been to a good chippy knows how the fish should be battered and fried and how the chips should be...someone said they should have more seasoning. Wrong. They are supposed to be just chips you add the salt and vinegar to your liking. GB gets it right. I ordered the cod. Food wise they get it perfectly. This is about as authentic a fish and chips experience one can get outside of the UK. And having spent the majority of my summers and winters visiting my UK family, I know my stuff. I'm pretty sure the used fryer oil from my favorite Glasgow chippy runs through my veins. I was also excited to see bangers (!) on the menu. I will have to try them at some point. I would have given 5 stars except for 2 things. The young lady who wasn't too pleasant, which surprised me since I had heard the staff there is great...but I didn't receive that service so a 1/2 star off there. Another 1/2 star is taken off because I just checked my bank account balance and they actually held an additional 20% on my card for if I wrote in a tip. I didn't, I gave $1 in the jar which is more than the counter service deserved, honestly. I have never seen that done at a fast food type establishment. I have a lot of issues with tipping for someone ringing me up and to assume I'd give a 20% tip for it irritates me. Even though it will drop off in a couple of days, it's annoying. I'll be paying cash there going forward. Other than those minor annoyances, GB is great and I'll certainly be returning.

Fun hole in the wall joint. The food is great- even the next day! You can taste the fish (unlike other places where all you taste is oil). A half portion is plenty ( 3 large pieces of cod and chips). My husband ordered a full portion and almost finished it. Be prepared to share your table with other people, but when the food is good- who cares!

When my wife first told me she that wanted to go try GB's, I whined that I hated fish and that she was only making me go there as a way to penalize me for leaving the toilet seat up TWICE that day. I was wrong! (partly) This place ROCKS! The food is alway piping hot. The fish is fresh with an excellent crunchy outer layer that isn't overly oily. The "chips" are perfect and they aren't "potato chips" or "little dinky french fries". We love GB's!

I love this place. Every time we are in here I wish I lived closer. We drive only a 20-25 min distance to this location but it never disappoints. The batter is amazing, the service is friendly and everything we have tried is very tasty. Tilapia, Cod, Prawns etc. We make this a monthly family trip.

If you want a good taste of fish and chips. This is the place to go. I have only had the cod but it is delicious. One nice thing about this restaurant is that they batter the fish to order so you know that it is going to be nice and crispy. The atmosphere is really cool as well, especially if you are a soccer fan. If there is a soccer game going on you know that it will be on one of the tv's. Also, there is memorabilia adorning the walls and ceiling which I think is cool. It get a little pricy sometimes, for 3 pieces of cod and chips is 10 bucks, but if you feel like having a good meal it is definitely worth the money.

Great fish and chips, which is fortunate since that's the name of the place! You order at the counter, there's a selection of fried fish and beers. The small/medium is big enough for two to share, which is what we did. Food comes up pretty quick and then you seat yourself. Appreciate that the fish is moist, not too oily and not too much breading. The chips were nice and thick. Overall very delicious!

I have been remiss in not posting sooner about GBs. They have the very best fish & chips in Colorado. I've been to all 3 locations and they always exceed my expectations. I always get the full cod meal, and share it with a friend. There's plenty of fish in each basket and more than enough chips ( steak fries ). Yum. Did I mention they have THE BEST fish & chips? All that for around 10 bucks per person, it's a great deal. On a warm spring/summer/fall day their patios are a great place to hang out and enjoy the weather. We'll be going back again and again.

As an English ex-pat since 2003, it never ceases to amaze me/ make me laugh/ piss me off at what is often passed off as "authentic British" in this country. I've eaten a lot of fish and chips in the US and have been mostly disappointed. I've gotta say that while GB's f&c is not the best I've had here, it is definitely pretty damn good. I guess I was expecting more of a pub atmosphere at GB, but it's really more of a greasy spoon-ish place that happens to sell beer. The fish (cod) was good quality, but the pieces were rather small, and imo there was too much batter. The chips were decent - nice and chunky (it annoys the crap out of me when restaurants serve up French fries as chips). Props for the piping hot freshness of the food though - you can watch the guys working in the kitchen, and can see for yourself that the food is cooked to order. The "tartare" sauce was a bit weird; to me it tasted like Big Mac sauce. My only (minor) complaint is with the seating - there isn't nearly enough of it. We got there at 5.30, and the place was already filling up fast. Most tables ended up being shared by different groups, which is ok if you don't mind that kind of thing. Personally, being the anti-social cow I am, I didn't much like it. Oh, and they have Marmite- and Prawn Cocktail-flavored Walker's crisps!!! I'll give them a whole star just for that :)

Let's hear it for fried food! Hooray fried cod! Hooray fried tilapia! Hooray other fried fish! The fish here tastes pretty good, though they don't give enough tartar sauce initially, they are quick to give more upon request. But the little containers are so small and the fish pieces are so big, I find I never get the amount of tartar sauce on each bite that I would like. I've had the Shepherd's Pie as well and I though that was delish. I really like the vibe of this place too. It's very small and somewhat cramped, but instead of making me feel claustrophobic, it makes the place feel more communal. The big thing is their happy hour $.75 PBRs. That's definitely something that makes me happy. This is a great place to go for some good greasy food and and a great drink special.

It was pretty tasty for fish & chips. Pretty quick service too. I thought I read a prior review saying it was not greasy..............it is greasy. It is cod that is breaded and deep fried...........that is what makes it so good I guess. Anyway, I will definitely be back. Next time I might have to try something else just for why not. Oh, 1 point for you future GB goers.............if you are two people or more, get the large order and split it and it will save you a couple of bucks. My friend and I each ordered a half order when we could have gone halfsies. This is where I wish the counter person was thinking and would have made the suggestions as I clearly was not thinking at the time.

I have been to two locations for GB's, the Sloans Lake spot and Broadway. Had a great experience at Sloans Lake, and was a bit disappointed at the Broadway spot. The fish and chips are yummy, but the old grease odor in the place was so overpowering that I left a few times to get fresh air. Would go back to the other locations though.

A great place for fish and chips - I got the sampler platter which if I recall correctly had a piece or two of fried cod, a scallop, a shrimp, and something else I can't recall (all fried). The fries were great, and the ambiance is done correctly for a Fish N' Chips spot. It always drives me nuts to go to a fish n' chips place that isn't even as good as Long John Silvers (ahem, Yorkshire). This place is the real deal. Very delicious, I will be back.

It's not fried haddock in Maine, but the fried fish (cod) is okay. I believe the chips are frozen. They were only okay. My husband didn't love the pork pie.

Oh my cod. I loved their deliciously made cod :]. Not too greasy. I kinda wish it was a little crunchier... Their fries are perfect wedges w just the right amount of seasoning. But more than their famous fish and chips, I enjoyed the oysters. I like things really fried and crunchy and the oysters around the edges were crunchy but where the main part of the oyster lies, it wasn't too crunchy nor was it too soft. Perfect!! Only downside is limited seating on a Friday. But has a very nice at-home feel.

if you like fish and chips, this is the place for you. all of the different options - cod, tilapia, calamari, etc. are a nice way to mix things up. their french fries are good but not anything i would recommend anyone to go out of their way for. they have a variety of other english fare items i haven't tried (bangers and the like) that look appealing from what i've spied in other's baskets. everything was prepared fresh - there's always a short wait for tasty food! the staff is very friendly and helpful here. i have my dogs with me often and they brought a water bowl out to the patio for them. i like this place. i'll be back, but i need to wait for my arteries to recover from my last visit before i plan the next.

I went here with a friend one afternoon when we were feeling peckish... and I was impressed with the fish selection. I've spent plenty of time in the UK eating fish and chips from all points, and I have to say GB's batter rates up there with the real deal. The cod, for me, is the way forward for sure. Their chips are great -- not fried in lard, unfortunately, but nice (I had to leave some in the basket because I was stuffed -- uncomfortably so after two pieces of fish and most of the fries). I don't really go for tartar sauce myself -- being a purist, I'm strictly for the malt vinegar and salt, but that being said, my friend wanted more... she was able to get a free second serving just by asking (you can pay for a side order of about 1/4 c of sauce. Blech)... maybe learn to live without if you're a tartar sauce fan? One thing I'd love to see on the menu is mushy peas. C'mon, guys -- no respectable chippy wouldn't offer them as a side. One of my other favorite F&C stops is A Salt and Battery in NYC -- it would be awesome if GB offered freshly fried desserts, too (AS&B has snickers and some battered fruit... bananas maybe?) -- I mean, once you've started, why not go all the way towards clogging those arteries? I love the beer garden benches inside... and the fact that they serve beer is a major plus. I'll have to try the location on my side of town -- it looks less charming than the b'way location, but I'm dying to have a pork pie.

  • Rachel M.

I felt a bit like Mrs. Lovett whilst selecting my meat pie from the menu, but my search for fingers within was fruitless... No pretension about this small and very basic Broadway jewel where you can get some perfectly prepared cod or a pork pie. My husband opted for the former, I selected the latter, and both of us were totally pleased with our meals. I particularly liked the portion size of the pork pie with a single side and a beverage - it was just enough to be filling without pushing the limit. Husband got a 1/2-full meal of the cod which was more than enough with the fries. In short: do NOT reduce yourself to going to Long John Silver's just because they have paper hats for the kiddos. Take them hear to get some far better fish fare and enjoy a PBR or a Boddingtons while they oooh-aaah over the jerseys hanging from the ceiling.

This place is like walking into another world. It's off Broadway across from a pot shop and a doughnut shop. You walk into this place it feels welcoming and also like a sports bar right out of the UK. Now I lived on a coast for most of my life, so I'm kinda picky about fresh fish. This place did not disappoint. I got fried scallops, which if you haven't had them from a fish and chips place taste like a ball of fat soaked in butter and coated in thick bread...then fried. Which in my book is amazing. I highly recommend them. My friend had shrimp and they were pretty great as well. If you're in the area this is a must try for sure. The menu is simple, the prices are fair when you see how much food you get, soccer is playing in the background and there's a ton of beer on tap.

Great fish and chips! My only complaints are the chips and the fact that I now live 2 blocks from this place. Every lunch/dinner at my house is a struggle to decide between fish and chips or something else. Damn you GB! The chips are kind of inconsistent in my opinion. I've had em soft and soggy or hard and undercooked. But even when they are cooked right they're just not that great. Frankly I'm not a fan of the thick, streak fry size of these chips. I know that's the traditional way to have them but I prefer a thinner version. Or if they served sweet potato chips that was be killer. And the tartar sauce is good but they give you a rain drop sized portion of it that results in leaving everything else covered in vinegar and ketchup. More tartar sauce please!

  • Toni D.

Good fish and chips! Great variety....with different combo meals to choose from. The only downside is the lack of tartar sauce you get with your order. I love tartar sauce and they change extra for any additional sauce. Atmosphere is pretty casual, the seating consists of wooded tables and benches. Closes at around 9pm...

GB has really surpassed any preconceived expectations I had about Fish & Chips. This joint is way cool. Anyone giving anything less than 4 stars is probably on crack or has something up their you know what. Do you guys not see the fish fillets being dipped in fresh batter just before being perfectly deep fried to a nice (but not overdone) external crispness? You get to choose which fish you want (and I choose the Cod). Do you honestly think Long John Silver's could ever compare to its degree of freshness? Some of you could not even recognize fresh fish even if someone threw it on your face. And how about those fries... thick, juicy... only Red Robin's fries are comparable. You sprinkle the fish with lemon, dip in tartar sauce, and then you might even add a little bit of wine vinegar for the perfect fish you will ever eat. GB (which btw stands for Great Britain) is simply the quintessential Fish&Chips. The area it is located may be a little sketchy, but I think the trip is well worth it.

Well, now I've tried the oysters. They're okay as long as the cook pays attention to them and doesn't burn them like my first batch, but they are quite small. I would say they aren't worth the expense. (The coating in some instances is a hollow ball of normal-thickness coating with a tiny piece of oyster rattling around inside.) The other stuff is a better deal. Love the shrimp and the calamari! We've also found that one order of chips is plenty for two of us, though if you love steak fries you may feel differently.

Finally had the chance to try GB's yesterday. So glad I did! Having grown up in England, I have a special place in my heart for the wonderful fried deliciousness that is battered cod. GB's makes it just right; good amount of batter, not too greasy, hearty chunks of fish. My only complaint? The size of the tarter sauce. Who can make it through all those chips with a dime sized dollop of sauce? Although, special bonus that the dude (owner?) frying up the food was British. Or maybe it was an elaborate ruse and a fake accent, either way it made me happy!

I'm gonna go ahead and go for 4 Stars instead of 3 but it was close. Been going to GB for years, this location and others. I must admit that the early years seemed to have a bit more quality but it's still tasty enough for me to go in when the notion strikes me. I always go for the Cod, always. Hit or miss lately, some visits just don't seem to taste quite right but still okay, not great. Other times it's still great. No need for a full order, half order is plenty for one. Prices a little steep but good enough when I'm in on a good day. I'll be here again. Plenty of good games on and always counting on the good flavors.

I spent quite a bit of time in Europe, and had fish and chips in Ireland, London, and all over the place, and these are the best I've had! Absolutely perfect...right out of the fryer. I got the 1/2 order full meal, with cod. It was PLENTY of food...I left there stuffed after three pieces of fish, and a good serving of fries. I'll absolutely be back! Oh...and they were right. The girl behind the counter was adorbs.

I am a sticker slut. If there is free sticker to be had, its new home must be on my fridge in the basement. You are too, if you have a second, out-of-the-way fridge, just admit it. Deep fried fishes and chips. I am not a fan of thick fries...I know, I know, I have spent enough time in the UK to get a taste for them, but just can't. There is a delicate balance those little potato pieces that I believe is difficult to achieve. IMHO. The fishes though, super fresh and hot, hot, hot. The shrimp, crisp and succulent. This really is not all that on the cheap side. But I should give it one more star for the 75 cent PBRs during happy hour and all the proper European football swag. I am convinced that an accent makes up for a whole lotta ugly and I just expect a sweaty, toothless bloke to walk in the door with cleats. Sorry, that was my outside voice.

Before any restaurant is reviewed, you must have a comparison as a basis for the review. I had the Cod Fish and Chips today (1/2 order), and here is how it compared to the following other fish and chip places, on a scale of 1-10 (10 being best): Red Robin: 1 Long John's Silver (gulp): 1 Fish and Chip shops in England (I have traveled to England five times): 1 Epcot Center World Showcase, Yorkshire County Fish Shop "Ramsdens famous Fish and Chips" (this is my all time favorite place for Fish and Chips, and I was there just two weeks ago): 1 Compared to nothing else, just on its own merits: 5 In summary, locally, you are better off to eat at Red Robin or Long John Silver's, their fish and fries are much better. Compared to fish and chips at Epcot Center, and in England, neither their fish or chips hold up at all. I found the fish too thin, the coating not crisp enough, and the batter and fish virtually tasteless. The chips were limp, and tasteless as well, definitely not fresh cut. Come on!! How hard is it to make a crisp batter, hand cut your fries from fresh potatoes, cut the fish a minimum of 1/2" thick, and serve more than a thimble of tartar sauce??!! If you have had fish and chips in England, Red Robin, or Epcot Center, you will be disappointed. If you have never tried fish and chips, you may like it, as long as you add salt, tartar sauce, and vinegar, in order to add some taste. I was surprised how busy they were when I was there for lunch (Sheridan location), there must be a lot of people around with little to compare to, or they tried something other than the cod fish and chips. BTW...their website is horrid..... Norge

If you want to get yourself some deep fried greasy goodness, look no further! The fish fillets are quite large and the price is reasonable. I have only been to the one on Broadway, but I see they opened a new location near Sloan's lake. Definitely going to check that one out, too. Perhaps the best time to go to GB's is happy hour. Who can argue with 75cent PBRs? The only downside to happy hour is its often hard to find a seat. The staff is quite friendly, and I always leave fat and happy. I give 4 stars to the deep fried greasy fishtastic goodness!

I grew up in Wisconsin and our family Friday night ritual was a fish fry -- admittedly a bit different than the British orientation here. No denying the fish was fresh and the batter great, in keeping with their motto, "In Cod We Trust." But aside from that, what else is worth the trip here beyond the medical marijuana shops everywhere on Broadway? Seating is a struggle. Beer choices mildly interesting (aided by Happy Hour). Chips are not worthy. Maybe if you are a soccer fan you will like it more than I did.

Most amazing fish and chips ever. Even though they use a heavier batter, it did not give me the heavy greasy stomach feeling I often get with other fish and chips. The coleslaw was yummy. The atmosphere was like a sports bar, a European sports bar. I liked the tarter sauce. However, there was not enough on the plate. Please stop charging a buck for more tarter sauce. That's dumb... it's tarter sauce. I would like to thank the management for putting a picture of my boyfriend, Cristiano Ronaldo, on the wall in the womens restroom. Would it be possible to remove it from the wall behind the toilet to the wall in front of the toilet? Thanks! ;) I will be back... and with more friends this time.

Eric and I have been hearing about GB for a while- someone even gave us their bumper sticker! We finally made it in and tried the fish and chips. The cod was so juicy and tender, and the batter satisfyingly grease. The chips are big fat steak fries. All in all, between the bright soccer themed decor and fresh hot fish, we were very happy customers. I will need to come back and try out the bangers and mash.

I have visited for lunch several times now and had great experiences every time. I think the fish (cod) is the best thing on the menu however the sampler plates are great too. Unfortunately you can spend a pretty penny on lunch here if you are not careful. They also have some decent beers and a great British pub like environment. But you'd better not be shy as the dinning room only has picnic tables and chances are you are going to be sharing with strangers.

On a friend's recommendation I went to check out the GB Fish and Chips on 22nd. and Sheridan. I ordered the 1/2 sampler, because this was my first trip to GB F & C. It was a little later in the afternoon, well after the lunch rush, and not really close to the dinner hour. What is nice is that they offer a a "happy Hour" special on all drinks. And it starts at 3 o' clock. If PBR is your beer of choice, they offer it at .75 cents during happy hour. The sampler came with "chips" and I liked the cut of fries, or chips. Really long and solid wedges. I will have to say that the battered tillipa in the sampler was my least favorite, which made the battered Cod my most favorite, and a close second being the battered Shrimp. There was also scallops and another battered sea creature of some kinds, not really sure what that was, but it tasted good. I will most defiantly be back, and in the pay-it-forward sense, I will likely tell a new friend to check it out.

Huge fan. First, I love the food. It's pub grub in a town that doesn't have a lot of great pub grub. The fish is good, the prawns are fantastic, and the bangers n mash is worth the trip. Second, it's footie heaven. Lots of screens with lots of soccer. It's a great place to watch international matches, MLS matches, and EPL matches. Finally, the atmospheres right. It's a place where people share tables, and say a few friendly words. It's very neighborly.

I vacillate between having 3 star and 4 star experiences here. I sense the potential for 5 stars though, so I've decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. So far I've just had the fish n' chips, but I'm determined to try their shepherd's pie next time. I've been there three times so far, and each time it gets a little a better. The seating doesn't invite lingering so keep that in mind when planning your outing. The fish is very freshly fried and you might want to wait a moment to bite into it as you may burn your tongue! The fries are wide, like steak fries. They could do with a little extra seasoning, in my opinion. Not salty seasoning, but flavor seasoning. I go ahead and get the extra side of tartar for $1 because I'm pretty much a tartar addict, not because the fish needs it. The full order is HUGE. Starving, I couldn't even finish the HALF order. The first time I had the fish n' chips, I got a bit of a tummyache from the greasiness. Most recently, it was much better, so I'm glad I gave them another shot. I'm must also admit to being a big fan of their 75 cent PBR special all day on Sunday. My first time there, I got drunk for less than $3. I thought I was a cheap drunk before, but now I think I found a whole new level of licentiousness. Thank goodness they are within walking distance!

They are not messing around. This is pretty good fish. You can have beer while you wait. There isn't much seating in the winter but it looks like they have a patio in the summer. It's no nonsense so you can get in and get out. Nice people working there too, come to south broadway and save the attitude... Why put up with or have attitude anyway? You live in Denver.

I went to GB on Sunday evening - it was happy hour so beers were half off! I ordered a half order cod meal (3 pieces of cod, fries, and drink); instead of the fountain soda, I got a Boddingtons. I also got a side of curry for fry dipping. The food took kinda awhile for fish and chips, but it was WELL worth the wait. The fish and fries were crispy perfection. The side of curry was a great addition to the meal. It was a little bit crowded, but my husband and I were able to snag a spot at a table.

~Non Fish Eater Ate Here~ I don't enjoy foods that once had gills or fins, so I was glad to see scallops on the menu. I ordered the 1/2 meal which included a side of chips (fries) and a soda. The meal was about $9 and was enjoyable, but this place isn't in my bubble, so unless someone asked to go there, I probably won't return. Those who did eat the fish & chips seamed to really enjoy their meals just as much as I did mine.

I was having a hard time deciding where my husband and I were going to dinner. We were driving down Broadway and a thought hit me....GB Fish and Chips. Oh yeah, that sounds delicious. My husband and I tried three different "swimmers"; cod, prawns and squid. All of them were crisp and fresh without any stale oil taste that you sometimes get . I like my fish and chips doused with malt vinegar and dipped in tartar or cocktail sauce. We had chips with our entrees and they were quite tasty. All in all, great fresh food and a good selection of imported beers.

Finally made it here Friday evening before a concert at Swallow Hill. Interesting place and we ate on one of the picnic tables in front (Bway), cause inside was full and didn't realize there was some rear shady patio tables out back. Not bad, but it was too greasy for me. I don't think all fried fish has to be THAT greasy. Batter was ok, but moist and greasy underneath, and not the best fish batter I've had on the Front Range. I'd prefer a crisper & crunchier batter. Fish itself was just OK quality and was on greasy side too. They were busy at 6:45, so our fish was fresh, so that wasnt the issue. I'll try them again in a few months and see if it's the same. Also tried fried shrimp, but wouldn't get again. Steak fries weren't exactly tasty "chips". Thought it was a smidge pricey for what we're gettin' here, but 75 cent HH PBR took the edge off that. Oh, and my gut didn't get over the heavy greasy ache until the next morning!

If you have been to England, and had some really good fish, you need to stop in here. Excellent cod and very very good scallops. You will have to ask for extra tartar sauce. I guess they think it is worth it's weight in gold. It is ok. But, the fish is great. If you want to watch a soccer game, this is the place. Randy B.

Good little chippy. Beers are in bottles, served in plastic cups. They have British (and Irish) beers like Bass, Guinness, and Newcastle. The cod was good. Pretty stupid hot when they come out, and they don't come out too quickly; At least you know it's cooked fresh to order, even at their busy times. They give you one little condiment cup of tartar sauce. If you ask, you can get another cup, but if you pay you can get a big fatty cup. And is it sinful that I walked out of this place, saw Winchell's Donuts and really wanted a raised donut?

I am, by no means, an authority on "fish and chips", but I do order them at every restaurant that has it on the menu. I have to say, GB is my favorite. The prices are more than reasonable. Nothing that you wouldn't pay at any late night diner. However, the food is top notch. I believe a common mistake with battered and fried fish is that the balance between fish and batter is ignored. Typically, when you order from an upscale restaurant, you get a large serving of fish. When paying a premium price, I understand that I want a serving that's proportionate to what I pay. However, what you usually get is a few large cuts of fish covered in batter. Because the dish is dependent on the batter for flavor (condiments aside), the serving is usually bland and condiments are almost necessary for taste. The battered and fried fish at GB has a wonderful balance. Without any addition, the dish tastes wonderful straight from the fryer. Just the right amount of fish and batter so that the food can stand on its' own and still have taste. Also, as a bonus, their pricing is much lower than what you would normally pay at some of the pricey chain eateries. Every time I come in, I get friendly service and they're always attentive to my requests. My only suggestion would be... Open another location. It's cozy at GB, and sometimes it's so packed, that you start to see patrons eating their meals while standing. I wouldn't expand because there's a certain charm to the place that I think should remain unaltered, but having another location to set my drink down would be nice.

My boyfriend's truck got broken into the other night, so the next day, when he had a craving for fish and chips, I decided that I was obligated to oblige him. Being new to fish and chips, and a hesitant fan after my previous two experiences (The Cheeky Monk, which was tasty but expensive, and the Bull and Bush, wich was only so-so), I was debating where to go when I remembered that Yelp had a "best of" winner under the category of fish and chips. Voila. Dilemma solved. GB Fish and Chips is right across Broadway from Pasquini's (where E and I went on our first date...Aww :) so I figured that if the original plan didn't work, I could high-tail it across the street for some yummy cheese-walnut ravioli. That was until I walked into the amazing aroma of GB and saw that they were serving...Guinness. I am a big fan of Guiness stout, because I think it tastes like the best chocolate milkshake I've ever had, and I am more than willing to fall in love with a restaurant that serves it. I fell even more in love when I had their fish and chips. Being a minimalist AND a traditionalist, I went for the traditional cod, and oh, I picked well. It was lightly fried in a delicate and very tasty batter and I gobbled it up with a dollop of tartar sauce. So good. E got the combo meal, with fried scallops, squid, cod, and halibut. I had a bite of each and must say they were all good (but I still thought the cod was the best!) The chips were thick and tasty, and the beer tasted delicious. We both started with Guinness but E also had a Boddington's (English beer) that was pretty good too. And the orange-almond cheesecake was TO DIE FOR. I have been thinking about going back since I last ate there - and that was only two days ago! Maybe I will go back for lunch tomorrow. Be careful. Once you are hooked it is a bad, bad thing...Oh, and even though the site says they are only open until 9pm, they are actually open until 10pm on weekends.

I absolutely L O V E this place. By far the best fish and chips I've had in many many years. Everyone here is super friendly and despite there always being a packed house when I go in I never have a problem getting a seat. Last time I was with 3 of my friends and 2 got the combo and then the other 2 of us just got the cod. I love the cod and tend to only get fish instead of an assortment. That being said the shrimp is really good and I had a bite of the calamari and it was awesome. Last time I got coleslaw and it was really yummy. The mashed potatoes are the only down side here, they're really bland and not appetizing. Aside from that I love everything about this place and tend to make it a good place for a special treat now and again :)

Since my first review we've been back probably...oh...20 times. Yes, really! And yes, really it's still as amazing as the first time I had it. I've had almost everything on the menu and it's all tasty. My favorite is still the fish 'n chips but a close second are the bangers and mash. Oh my goodheavensandallthatisrightintheworld they are delicious! Beware though! This place is crowded! So, once you go and become addicted just be prepared to wait for a table or eat your fish standing up. Great...now I'm thinking about the cod and am going to have to go hit this place up for visit number whatever it is now. Like they say, "nom, nom, nom, nom".

So glad this place is a block from my house. I love fish and chips. My husband and I have travelled to London and all over Ireland, partaking of the fish and chips the whole way. I love the feel of GB's, the football on TV and the communal seating. The cod is wonderful, with just enough breading, but not so much it overpowers the fish. The chips are excellent as well. Warning - if you get a full order, it is huge. You will be stuffed before finishing and have to have assistance from your dining campadres. GB's is a welcome addition to the neighborhood and a great place for a casual dinner.

Fresh off a trip to Chip Shop in Brooklyn's Park Slope neighborhood, I found my cravings for fish and chips had grown exponentially. I had seen GB Fish and Chips before and decided that it was about time to stop in and check it out! After finagling my car into the tightly packed parking lot, I went inside to check the place out...it seemed like a pretty chill spot. After getting my food (which is on this awful wax paper that looks like newspaper, oh geez it's pretty bad) I was not three bites into my first piece of cod when I picked up a nice huge chunk of lint nestled in my basket..ugh! I told the woman, who I think was the owner, she offered to have the cooks make me another plate, but it just seemed like such a waste of food, so I continued eating my lint infused meal. All-in-all it was okay, a little too greasy for my taste, but their tartar sauce is pretty good, which is always a plus!! When it comes down to it though, GB Fish and Chips would be the first place I would go when that craving hits!

Can't beat this place for fish and chips in Denver! Perfectly crispy, crunchy and yes greasy fried seafood. The fish is piping hot and tender on the inside of the delicious, thickly battered, fried shell. Yummy, salty fries and cool atmosphere. Guinness in the can too. Soooo excited they are putting in a new location near my 'hood.

UPDATE: I've gone in there twice in the last few months and, later in the day, become sick. In the second instance, I was down with stomach cramps for two days. Can't say for sure it was GB, but I had not eaten anything else in that second instance. And here's the thing. Each time, I only ordered the chips. This makes me sad. I love GB and the folks who work there, but I can't see going back after than last experience. It almost did me in. Prior to those visits... 4 Stars. GB is next to brilliant. First, the ambiance at this location is spot-on comfortable and down-to-earth. It has about seven wooden tables, a wooden bar, and a small mini bar across the front window. You sit on wooden seats or bar seats. I don't think they can fit more than 50 people in the place at a time, and folks share tables like back in the school cafeteria (though the company is far nicer). Darts in the back. Three HDTVs tuned to Setanta for football (soccer). Pictures on the walls of familiar, iconic British scenes. There's even a signed, hand-drawn print of fish. You can't go wrong. Though the interior looks old and shopworn (the kitchen is not old, and it's spotless), it is very clean... in a good way. Not in the mocking tone of the Beatles, a la Hard Day's Night, which means boring. Second, the food is good, but sometimes uneven. The fish are battered, deep-fried, and brilliant. The outside is crisp and the inside is soft and steamy. Perfect. The only quibble is the portion sizes are uneven. One time you'll go in and get big, fat pieces. The next time, you'll get these skinny sticks and leave wondering, "What was that? Did I just pay $10 for air? I'm still hungry. Best get a doughnut at Winchell's next door." The fish selections are cod, tilapia, oysters, prawns, squid, and scallops. From summer until just after Christmas, they had the best salmon I've ever eaten. Hopefully, Alex can bring the salmon back during the same season later this year. You can buy just the fish (a half order is three pieces, a full order is six), or, you can buy a meal. The meal includes the fish (half and full orders), a side (I usually get the chips, which, like the fish, are crispy outside and soft inside), and an all-you-can-sip fountain drinks (Coke products) or iced tea. For the fish, you can also get a combination, which includes 1 cod, 1 tilapia, 1 prawn, 1 squid, and 2 scallops. Next on the menu are English specialtics, which may be ordered a la carte or as a meal (with a side and drink, as with the fish). The choices are Bangers, Shepherd's Pie, Pork Pie, and Pasties. The Bangers are very tasty, indeed, and you get a healthy portion. The Shepherd's Pie is, well, nothing to fly to England about. I can make one at home for a fraction of the price. I've never had the Pork Pie. The Pasties... now, here's a problem. I've had them twice, so it's not quality control. It's the recipe. The filling may be awesome, but I wouldn't know because all I can taste is the pastry. It's thick and dry, and tastes like cardboard. There's no getting past it, and it may be masking something awesome inside. The problem may be that we live at altitude and the dough rises too fast, or it may be the opposite. It may be they use too much flour to keep it from rising too fast. Both are common problems that are easily addressed. But, they must be addressed... especially at $6.50 for one a la cart, $9.00 for the meal, and $17.50 for three (frozen, to cook at home). The sides include chips (perfect), mash potatoes (nothing you can't make at home with a microwave oven, a potato, butter, and a potato masher), crisps (haven't tried them), coleslaw (fairly tasteless, small serving of cabbage with mayo and maybe some salt and pepper), and baked beans (also haven't tried them). GB serves soft drinks, wine, and beer (domestic and imported). They have a happy hour when the Rapids are away and on telly. On those days, it's happy hour all day. They also serve New England Clam Chowder. I must try it. There's a kids meal (fish, side, and drink). And, you can buy frozen bangers, pasties, and pork pies to take and bake at home. Third, the staff are some of the nicest people you will meet. Carrie at the front counter is a lovely person. The guys cooking in the back are, too. Just nice people to talk to. If you give them a chance, they will make you feel like you're one of the family. Overall, I'm a fan. A few things need fixing, but I think they're fairly easy to do. Alex, the owner, has a winner on his hands. Just a few tweaks, and it may be the best fish & chips restaurant this side of San Francisco.

I'll preface this review by saying I am from Toronto and the fish and chips there are arguably the best outside of the UK. I've also traveled in the UK and Ireland and so I am rather picky when it comes to fish and chips. I must say, GB's does it right. I always get the 1/2 order full meal with "combo" which includes cod, tilapia, scallops, prawn, and squid. It's lovely and fresh and hot and with a little bit of tartar sauce and lots of ketchup on the chips...perfection. The service is always friendly and laid-back, as is the atmosphere. It really feels like a bit of England stuck in the middle of Denver. I'm proud to drive around with a GB sticker on my car!

The food is always the best. I've never been here when the owner didn't personally ask us how the food was. I appreciate that. We know when we go to GB's we will leave happy. :)

So after my rave review for that other Fish & Chip shop in North Denver I figured it was only right that I check out GB Fish and Chips. I looked up their website for directions and they have a menu posted with prices so I knew exactly what I wanted before I got there. At 3pm on a Sunday this place was crowded which is a good sign for good food. After reading about the import beers and live soccer on the telly I would of imagined a pub style building but they also have pics online so I knew it was a hole in the wall type joint (sorry to owner!) They only have two TVs that I saw so it ain't no sports bar and the flags and soccer shirts on the ceiling don't do much to hide the industrial looking interior but who cares, I was there for the food! You order your food at a counter like fast food, you get your drinks then they shout out your name when your food is ready. I got the full Cod Fish which comes with a side and a drink. My side was obviously Chips which were cut nice and thick and you get to pour your own soda at the fountain. I noticed that they had Newcastle Brown ale so I added one of them to my order as well, just because :o) All the big picnic tables were full so I had the choice of a little stretch of bar overlooking the cute cashier or a high top table in the back near the dartboard & toilets and er I chose that for some strange reason! They shouted my name and I picked up my food. The fish was seriously piping hot right out of the deep fryer but I doused it pretty good with the malt vinegar. I don't know how much they strain, shake or pat dry the oil off the fish but it wasn't greasy at all. The batter was tasty and I only started picking it off towards the end when I realized that half a plate would of sufficed and I didn't want to waste any of that juicy cod. It came with some sort of tartar sauce but I don't do that so I cant comment on how it was. The place was still busy when I left and even though I preferred Yorkshire's fish, I will definitely eat there again, maybe take out as its only 8 miles from home. The counter girl came by and asked if I wanted another beer so I guess that counts as waiter service and they need them hydraulic spring closers on the toilet doors as I don't find looking at a toilet bowl while I am eating all that appetizing :o) Otherwise, great place!

I found this place one day when I had a craving for fish and chips. I was looking for the best place to go have some and the research I did online pointed me here. I was not disappointed. They make the fish and chips fresh right when you order it so your food is super hot when you get it and you have to let it cool down to eat it. I think the pieces of fish are a good size and meaty. The batter isn't too heavy either. The portions are the right size and maybe it is a tad bit more pricey than I'd like for a simple fish and chips meal, but I don't come here often and since I think everything is made well I'm willing to pay what they ask for it. They have some cheap ass beer specials too (75 cent PBRs) so I don't think you can't complain about a 12 dollar fish meal. If I want some traditional fish and chips I go to this place. My friend knows the owner too, which was a complete coincidence realized later. I think this place is cool. I like to play darts while I wait for my food to come up. I usually have gotten my food to go, but the place is very simple with picnic type tables and decorated with the British flag theme.

I love GB Fish & Chips! Somehow the perfect combination of flaky fish and perfectly fried batter...it almost tastes buttery. I prefer dine-in because I feel that with take-out that some of the crispness is gone by the time I get home, but the place is pretty small, so I either go during off hours or just drive really fast back home. Something you wouldn't want to eat very often, but when it's time to indulge, ohhhh it's so good.

This is what I imagine fish & chips dockside tastes like. They have an excellent batter recipe that ends up really light and crackly. We probably could have ordered one half meal combo and one half all fish meal, the chips were good but didn't need two orders of them. The cod was tender and steamy inside the crisp batter. The calamari really stole the show, however, which turned out to be long strips of calamari deep fried, more like tempura than what you'd expect in TGIF-type places (i.e. calamari rings). The ambiance is very British football centric, which lends an authentic feel. At least it's not cricket. The John Cleese letter to America was perhaps a bit dated, but hilarious reading while you wait for your food. Oh yeah, the tartar sauce was excellent too, but it took a while to find it. They came in tiny paper cups in the boxes.

FINALLY!! I made it to GB's... thanks Yelp! I've been driving by this place for years and my time finally came! Awesome. The atmosphere alone was worth it. Football jerseys all over the ceiling, a really cool inside and a nice cozy patio out back, there's also a patio out front facing Broadway (maybe not as cozy, but much more fun). We must have got there during the lunch rush, because the place was packed (it was on a Sunday around 1330). Seating was limited and they have giant 8 person tables with a high-top or two in the back. But, like I said it was jumping. The staff was helpful and courteous and so were the patrons. Having never been there I asked a nice couple what they recommend and what they got. It made the first time a lot less intimidating. I wanted to try it all having never been there... buuuut, I didn't have 150 bucks to blow on lunch..... So, we decided to get the combo platter with chips, coleslaw and the bangers. That's the way to go if it's your first time there, a nice variety and you'll be stuffed. All the fish was super fresh and super tender. Their chips are awesome, the cole slaw made fresh (from scratch I'm guessing) and the bangers were a nice appetizer, but I would recommend order with extra onions (it seemed skimpy... but I love sautéed onion). The tartar sauce was surprisingly good too, which is nice. It was like a little boost to an already great lunch. Overall, I can't wait to go back and have some more.... cheers!

I go to GB for three reasons: 1. The best battered fish in Denver. They keep their oil fresh and their fryers hot! 2. Cheap beer during happy hour. 3. The sexy chippie who works the counter always greats me with a wink and a smile that gives me the delusion of something more going on behind those pretty english eyes... The only negatives would be the lack of greens on the menu, and that they close too early.

I'm a self-confessed fish and chips nut, even though I've never had them in their "birthplace." So, I can't speak to authenticity or anything like that. One thing I can speak to is deliciousness though. Half order with chips is more than enough even for a hungry, skinny kid like me. The cod was cooked to perfection with a great crispy, well seasoned crust while the inner fish was still nice and moist and delicious. They do go way short on the tartar sauce, so just ask for two containers from the get go. The chips...well, I'm not much of a fan of chips or french fries, so I could have honestly done without them anyway. Overall, the service was quite good, the atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect from a British fish and chips joint with a little foot-y on the TVs, decent music and cool decorations on the wall. It's a bit small, but it'll do if you get there early.

Ok so it's been said that the first time you enter someone's home you are a visitor, the second time you are a friend, and the 3rd time you are family. Well I've checked into this restaurant over 20 times so I figure I'm pretty much in bed, under the sheets, and covered in fish batter. I digress. This is, however, my go to fish and chips place for one good reason Cod is my savior, wait, I mean for the savory cod. Tilapia Tuesdays are also a great deal. Occasionally they get in different fish and I recommend you try them just for the halibut! The tarter sauce is creamy, tangy, and really compliments the fish. The staff is always great (I mean they put up with my sense of humor) Cod bless their souls. The environment is open, family style, and lends itself to meeting new people or just chatting with the regulars like myself. Soccer and boxing are popular sports topics and there's a dart board in the back, which I really need to try since I love to play. I have also tried the Colfax location, which is just as good. Cheers!

I went today to check this place out. Here's what I say: The fish and chips 1/2 order was *almost* too much to eat! The fish was good. I had the cod and it was nicely cooked. Sometimes you get it and the fish is all chewy or the breading is too thick. It was not the case! It was really hot so I checked out Yelp while I waited. The chips were good, nothing really special about them but I liked them. The restaurant itself is pretty cool. There are soccer jerseys all over the place and even an autographed picture of Robert Pattinson on the wall that had some 8 year old girls swooning at the register. They have a really good happy hour .75 cent PBRs if you like or .75 cents off of all of the other beers they have. I didn't see anything over 3.00 so 2.25 for a Bud is a pretty good deal! The happy hour is from 3-7 so you have plenty of time to get your deal on! The parking situation was kind of confusing. Apparently even though there are big signs at the donut place next door you can still park there or you can park in the back in the teeny tiny lot. Oh. There were two ladies that came in before I left in wheelchairs and the staff moved the benches from the tables so they could wheel up to the tables comfortably, which I thought was really cool. I'm sure I'll be back!

I'm a big time fan of fish and chips. I'm also a big time fan of "we do 1 thing but we do it magnificently" eateries. You can get a 3 piece order, a big ol basket of fries, and a drink for 9.99 tax included out the door. Thing is, these fish pieces are delicious. This joint is always busy whenever I ride by and since they're busy, the stuff is always straight from the fryer. The fish was just delightful. Just enough extra breading to give some bites an extra crunch. There's other stuff on the menu, but it's primarily fried seafood fare. The decor is pretty cool, if not a bit stereotypical. I like the counter service style they have, it's efficient and you pick up your food directly adjacent to the condiment station. I wish there was one on the north side of Denver. That would be great. Overall a real delight for a really nice price.

Shall we go BRITISH today? That was what I ask Hubs when we need a "quick fix"? On the failthful day of Monday August 3rd 2009, Hubs, my little cousin and I head down to GB Fish and Chips for a late lunch after running some errands in the neighborhood. My oh my, I am speechless. I am speechless on what to order coz I want everything on my plate since I was starving... that includes Hubs and little cousin. So here was what we ordered if I could recall correctly: Hubs order was : * Half order of Cod and Chips My little cousin and I order these : * Prawns, Oysters, Squid, Scallops and opt for Chips and Crisps. Hubs like what he ordered. Reminds him on what FISH & CHIPS should taste like since, Hubs is French Irish and like his fish this way all the time. Not forgetting the FRIES... Chunky...he likes fries CHUNKY... So its 2 thumbs up from Hubs and he is willing to return again for more Fish and Chips. As for me, personally, this place is OK for the Prawns / Oysters combo, and the Scallops / Squid combo we request. I like the batter. Had some of the Cod that Hubs ordered. I like the Cod too. But somehow, I feel the Oysters were a little let down. The tartar sauce is too little, I think for my personal consumption... But they DO Charge EXTRA if you need extra sauce... So perhaps next time, I might want to try other combos they let us to have. Hehehehe ;) If they provide skinny fries, that would be good too, I hope in the future. Hint, hint : If they could bring Michael Owen, or his full name Michael James Owen that would be FANTASTIC to GB Fish and Chips one day! I'll faint! Thank you GB Fish and Chips!

I've had this bookmarked for my friend for a while. He loves fish and chips. So when I realized where we were, we had to stop. We turned in to the parking lot a little too early I guess... we parked at Winchell's, despite all the signs posted around the lot. Sorry Winchell's, the other lot seemed like a hassle to get to.. We felt bad for 30 seconds, but then we walked into the very British atmosphere and ordered the cod and chips. As we sat at our long picnic table, I watched them hand batter and fry our order and pull out a fresh batch of chips. MMMMMMM!!! This is the best I've had in Denver! Reminiscent of when I was in London. The batter to fish ratio was perfect. And the fish and chunky chips were served hot and fresh. The 6 piece was more than enough, we each had 2, and I took the rest back to the office with me. Due to its location to Performance Cycle, I know GB will become a regular stop and I'm definitely a fan of that!

If you are looking for a fish and chips fix, this is the place. Though I used to do very traditional cod option, I took a risk and tried the Tilapia, and I haven't gone back. With the half meal, you get 3-4 pieces of fish and reasonable portion of 'chips', which is more than enough for 1 person, and the full meal is more than enough to share. The husband and I have started sharing the full Tilapia meal, and getting a bowl of their clam chowder to share, and it's a perfect mix. You can tell that the clam chowder is homemade, since the consistency is a bit different each time we've eaten it, but the one solid is the flavor. Super tasty, full of clams and potatoes, just the thing for a cold day. The only thing that stinks is that lack of parking lot, but that's not the fault of GB's, since the donut shop next door actually owns the parking lot. Street parking isn't terribly hard to find, so I won't complain.

We were driving to eat at a Asian restaurant but fish and chips made me stop. So glad we did. The batter is so light and fluffy. The cod was tasty. They actually have steak fries and malt vinager. The staff is friendly like in a mom and pop place.

Can you say grease overload?! I couldn't even finish my half order. I had a very guilty feeling the whole time I was there eating! They really should use real newspaper to server up the fish & chips, not fake! But what I did eat was pretty good. The cod was nice and crispy, I really liked the batter. There was just enough on the fish too. The cod was tender and flaky, the way it should be. The fries were pretty good too, but I'm not a huge fan of the steak like fry. I wish they would give more tarter too. For the portion of fish you get, I used up all the tarter on 1 piece. My husband had Shepherd's pie. He won't eat fish at all. It was disappointing. It was served in the microwave plastic thing they heat it up in. Boo. I was expecting more of a pub like feel too. I'm glad I finally got to try GB's, I've had it bookmarked forever! If I ever feel the urge to overindulge in a bad for you meal, I know right where to go!

Have lived in the 'hood for 5 years and finally walked over for dinner recently. Great cod, chips/fries were decent too. One of us had the shepherd's pie, very good as well although served in disposable container. Worth the walk!

Drove past several times, noticed the restaurant but kept going... BIG MISTAKE! I didn't want to sully the enjoyable fish and chip meals I've enjoyed whilst traveling around the world. Finally stopped in and had myself a wonderful time. DO NOT PASS UP THE SIDE OF CURRY... This is Mandatory. Add a happy hour Newcastle and you're set. Enjoy! (Very pleasant staff too!)

Having a British husband living here for 3 years we are not quite sure how we have never gone out for Fish and Chips! We remedied that this week at GB. I have to admit I had a "duh moment" as it took me a minute or so to realize what GB stands for. I actually thought it was CB Fish and Chips but realized i was confusing it with CBGB! Anyhoo.... We walked in unsure of what to expect - it is completely casual with long communal tables. We were greeted by a staff who explained all of the selections to us and then laughed when my husband opened his mouth. We each ordered the 3 pieces of cod with the chips to go - it stayed crisp as we got it home - about a 10 minute drive. One note: if you get a to go order be sure to ask for extra vinegar, tartar and lemon as those portions were on the small side. There was a generous helping of chips, the batter was crisp and the fish was moist. I also loved that they have strawberry soda "on tap". Happy Hour includes .75 PBR - can't beat it. There is also a good selection of GB beer and other traditional favorites such as pastys. One disappointing note - the beans are American- try a different side. Pricing is around $10 for each meal so not terribly expensive for the portion size we got. Will definitely be headed back to try some of their other offerings. Look forward to trying the ice cream cone with wafer at their other location as well.

If you love grease this is the place for you ! The portions are good but man talk about swimming in grease.........yuck !! I had hoped for better, but it would seems I got the royal lube job.... Not going back anytime soon.......long John silvers is better and cheaper ...... And the parking sucks... You pull into what you think is parking and all you see are threatening signs saying you will be towed if you park here...... Really ?....... I parked down the street... That really sucked...

If you have a hankering for Fish and Chips, don't bother going anywhere else in Denver. This is the place for your flaky, fresh cod filets! Been going here for a couple of years now, and even though it's now 16 miles away from me, I WILL drive that in rush hour to get my fix. Have tried the cod, tilapia, salmon and halibut (when they have it), but by far will ALWAYS go for my cod fix here. Great relaxed atmosphere, sit next to the pickled eggs and enjoy a beer if you'd like.

Best fish and chips in Denver - HANDS DOWN! I've been a patron of GB Fish and Chips for the past couple years. When I lived downtown, it was worth the drive. Now that I live in Wash Park, I'm happy to be a bit closer! When you walk in the door, the smell of vinegar is almost overpowering. But it's wonderful. The restaurant is always busy, has an upbeat atmosphere, and the food is great. If you have a chance to chat with the staff and the owners, they're fun and conversational. I always get the cod fish and chips - however I've tried the tilapia as well. Your meals are always served seconds from the fryer. They are usually too hot to eat right away, but even this can't stop me from diving in. Getting hungry writing this review - think I may have to stop by again sometime soon!

Now, I'm a Yorkshire girl. I grew up in Harrogate, I've eaten at the Magpie in Whitby, and during school we'd all pop over to the chippie for chips with curry sauce- it's in my blood. GB Fish and Chips was one of the better fish and chip places I've been to in the United States, but I was troubled by a couple of things. First, I asked if they had mushy peas (no) and baked beans (yes), so I ordered baked beans. Imagine my surprise when my fish came accompanied by barbecue (American style) baked beans- not Heinz-style beans in tomato sauce. I was really hoping for a more British style chip shop, but the only British offerings are the actual fish and chips. On to the good- the fish was well cooked. It was flaky, the batter was crisp and similar to good old English chip shop fish. It didn't come in one piece (as you'd be served in the UK), and the chips weren't really chips (just steak fries- I don't think they cut their own chips in house), but they were tasty and I drowned them in vinegar to induce some sogginess. There were football kits on the ceiling, I heard reggae and Oasis on the stereo, and the staff were very friendly. If I were an American who'd maybe been to the UK once or twice, I'm sure I'd be pretty pleased. As a girl from the UK, it's close, but without the real chip shop additions (curry sauce, mushy peas, Heinz baked beans), I'll probably just pick up fish from here to bring home - then make my own chips, curry sauce, and mushy peas. Guess I'll have to wait until my next trip home to fulfill my craving.

Good stuff here! Had a half cod order with chips. Should have ordered another side, I'm not a fan of steak fries, but that's just me. Really good fish and not a lot of breading. I'll be back for sure.

These fish and chips were fabulous! They were made when we ordered them, so super fresh and tasty. My favorite part of the combo was the scallops. The fries were good, even better with malt vinegar. We also ordered shepherd's pie and it was very good too! The beef was seasoned just right, and melded well with the veggies and mashed potatoes. I love the ambiance of this place, not to uppity, and soccer shirts all over the place which was cool. Ice cold Strongbow rounded out the meal! Yum! We will definitely be returning!

Great fish and Chips and $0.75 PBRS! I think this place is great, Best fish and chips in the denver area and you can not beat 75 cent PBR. I have never been charged for extra tartar sauce, maybe that is a new thing. Kids eat free on Sunday. Unfortunately my kid hates fish. We came here last summer and they had live music on the patio, I hope they continue this when it warms up. It was a lot of fun!

Fish and chips in Denver? Really? Yes, really. Get the half cod, half shrimp basket and eat one of the un-healthiest meals of your life. But boy it tastes good.

I can't give it a perfect since I've had fish and chips right off the boat. But for Denver it's the place for fish and chips.
