I have only had the hummus from this joint with their pita bread and must say it was pretty good. Couple of things that bother me: Employees always seem to not know what they are doing. The place was a mess when I walked in there one time after lunch. Don't they clean up? I'll get the hummus, but I am put off by any other item in there for some reason.

My husband and I both had the falafel platter which came with 6 small falafel balls (tee-hee, I said "balls"!), lots of hummus, a pita and a salad. The salad was nice and fresh. The falafel was average to meh. The hummus I enjoyed. All in all it fullfiled the need for food at the time and if I was in the area and was hungry would probably go again.

Finding one's self hungry while driving on S. Colorado Blvd. shouldn't be a problem, right? In a two-block stretch, one can find a Chipotle, a Spicy Pickle, a Swing Thai, a Heidi's, Tokyo San, Erawan Thai, and some new deli that has a moose in it's title. One can also find a Falafel King... and since something inside me said "mmmm.... falafel...." when my eyeballs scanned that sign, to Falafel King I went. Big. Mistake. What I wanted were hot, steamy balls of Middle Eastern goodness, crunchy on the outside, perfectly textured inside, amid a pile of fresh greens and tahini sauce and rolled in a soft, fresh pita. What I got were mushy, tepid, tasteless balls of grit amid a messy slurry of sauce and reasonably fresh greens, folded into a stale, cardboard, breaking-into-pieces-it-was-so-stiff pita. On the menu it said that the falafel pita sandwich came with my choice of salad. The server gestured to my options (greek salad, babaganouj, tabbouleh, etc...) and I chose marinated eggplant, thinking that it would come on the side. Nope. She dumped that mushy mess right in the center of my pita before I could even protest. So it had THAT going for it... Bad. Really, really bad.

I just can't look at my review for Falafel King and believe I can't give it five stars.....but guess what? I am now! I just couldn't go on without Falafel King. Some may argue and that's fine. But I love this place.

If you need a falafel fix, this is a good stop if you can figure out the parking (north of the building it's housed in) and are already nearby. I grabbed a gyro (lamb) and falafel combo which wasn't too pricey for a big gyro, six falafel balls with sauce and a drink. Good food and nice folks, but not much of a "go out" type place or anything else for that matter. If I'm near and need my fix, I'll go back.

I know it's fast food, but is this the best that we can do? This is not good food. Will it sustain you enough to live? Sure. I'm looking for a bit more. I checked the online menu at Chef Zorba's, which is a great Greek place not far from the F King. The food was less expensive and infinitely better. The falafels, which they should be good at, at least according to the name, were bland and tasteless. If you like this place, my guess is you've never experienced good middle eastern food. This place is an embarrassment to pita's everywhere.

Cause I love Gyros, and I love falafels... Seriously, this place is such a great alternative for fast food. Yes, the servings are humongo, but the great thing about chicks like me is we're cheap, and 2 servings is always better than one. I'm thinking lunch and dinner. The last visit was so great b/c it was the 4th(of July) and nothing else was open. So, the parking lot was empty and I could actually choose a table, I didn't have to sit in the half seats at the window facing the street as if I really wanted to watch people drive up and down Colorado Blvd. My falafel and Tabouli were so fresh and so good. Oh, and Izze sparkling juice....I was in heaven I tell you. (Easy to please too). Even though it has a slow feel like the east coast islands, it's still fast enough to get you through lunch rush. Goodness I tell you - if you're into mediterrean goodness.

2 1/2 stars?!?!?!?! Say it ain't so! I do not think this is the most amazing restaurant I've ever been too, especially since it lacks so much in ambience, but their falafel rocks the house!!! I am a falafel lover, and I think that most falafel is made into patties that are too big and therefore end up too dry. This awful luck with falafel also includes my own attempts at making it at home, but that's all we'll mention of that... I love Falafel King's falafel. You know they have to be good at it if it's their namesake! They make tiny little falafel balls which are like biting into a small nugget of heaven, and then coat them in a yummy yogurt sauce and, if you want it, stick them in their creamy hummus. About their hummus - my favorite hummus used to be Sinbad's, and since that restaurant closed I have been looking for a replacement. Jerusalem's hummus just doesn't cut it. Neither does Ya Hala's or Damascus's. Sad to say, I like Falafel King's better. Prices are okay. Parking is stupid. Ambience is zero. But I go for the hummus and falafel, not the beautiful people or fancy china, so it's all okay with me.

The same two girls have been working on both of my recent trips. Although the food is great, the girls make the experience just terrible! I have never met two people who didn't like their jobs worse than this.Shockingly rude and unhelpful.

Negative Nancys! For what you pay, Falafel King is nice. I take Colorado south to work a few days a week and pick up a quick bite at Falafel King sometimes. The people working there are friendly, the food may not be 100% authentic but is tasty, and it's not nearly as bad as the whiners claim. Whoever the manager is nowadays, they're good, and I'm going to keep going to Falafel King for a quick, non-greasy dinner to eat at work.

Better than your average fast food. Although the falafels are decent, the best thing on the menu, I've found, is the chicken schwarma. The pita is beautiful - different from the falafel pita - thicker, soft and very fresh. The chicken is white meat, not gristly, and seasoned well, and you have your choice of salad toppings. The yogurt sauce they put on top is excellent. Overall a scrumptious meal. I miss having this falafel king across the street!

  • zbenye ..

The Falafel here was forgetable, and the pita that wrapped it could be interchanged with cardboard. The salad that accompanied was OK, nothing more. The fresh-squeezed lemonade was over-diluted. The place is nice and the service is friendly.

  • Craig H.

I have to agree with the other "negative" reviews here. This place just isn't all that great. I've been here maybe 4 times since I live close by and I really don't know why I continue to go. Maybe it's because I love Falafel and it's the closest place to me. The Falafel balls are usually..weird, I don't know. They taste like they were cooked, left sitting out over night, and then placed back in the frier to warm them up. The pita bread is usually terrible as well since 3 of the 4 times I've been there, it was like cardboard and fell apart as I was eating it. Nothing fresh about this place. The hummus is okay, but then again, how can you screw up pre-packaged hummus? Really, avoid this place if you can. Heck, I think that Gyro place at the Cherry Creek Mall is better than this. Bleh.

Too many different owners (at least I think it has been different owners) over the last 5+ years. It is a place that just doesn't care. You have this feeling that the staff would prefer that you go away and not bother them. The portions are good for the price. The food is OK.

    (2)
  • Jeremiah Z.

Really good falafel balls, lamb is pre-cooked but also grilled before your eyes and put onto the freshest pita bread. The eggplant side was so so, especially since I had marinated mushrooms in mind but they were out. Definitely coming back.

if you're gonna call yourself "falafel king" your falafel better be awesome. it's not. it's ok. when i eat ethnic food i prefer to eat ethnic food. not a denverite's interpretation of it.

I'm not generally a fan of the almost buffet style ordering, though with the 4x6 plate, you get to taste quite a few of their offerings, and I have to say everything tasted pretty good. Plenty of vegetarian options, of course, and all around great spot and portions for the price, if you're down with mediterranean fast food!

  • Lauren D.

I didn't think this place was all that bad for what it is. I mean it is fast-food Greekish right? My falafel balls were yummy (that wasn't meant to sound dirty) and my Gryo plate was decent too, I love their roasted red pepper hummus and tzasiki sauce. And their pitas taste really fresh too. There is no ambiance to speak of because the place is way too bright and not very comfy feeling. But overall our food was cheap, delicious, and the staff was very friendly. We'd go back if in the area.

Mixed review here. My food was really good. I got the mixed Jerusalem grill platter. My girl ordered a margherita pita-style pizza meal. My food and salad were up at the same time and my girl's salad was ready before the pizza. We went outside to eat and both finished our salads while we waited for a pizza that was supposed to take 5 minutes. 10 minutes later I walk in with that "what' going on look" and they're like, oops, we burned it. My girlfriend got so pissed she just decided to get it to go because I was practically finished. They made amends by hooking up some free baklavas though. 4 stars for the food. 2 stars for service. I'll probably go back sometime.

my first visit. the food is decent. dont go out of your way to eat here. here is my criticism: they offer gyro/falafel/etc plates which include 2 side dishes. i chose the 6 falafel balls and 4 dolmas. my plate had half as many( 3 falafel balls and 2 dolmas). i politely point this out to cashier. he says my gyro plate is allowed only 3 falafel balls and 2 dolmas. i double check the menu board which clearly lists 6 falafel balls, 4 dolmas as sides. there is absolutely nothing about this on menu board. i politely insist that i get my full allotment of sides. after a bit of resistence the cashier complies. i suggest they make this clear on the menu board. i also point out that various customers must regularly point out this "confusion/misunderstanding." his reply? " no, you are the first." i call b.s. there is absolutely no way that is true. no way. i've become rather unforgiving towards such treatment. i think they are not intentionally trying a bait-and-switch but the end result is the same. this is a perfect example of first impression=bad experience=me not a customer in the future.

I stopped here in a time of hungry desperation. I got the falafel pocket pita with the house eggplant as my salad and hot sauce. The pita was overall okay. It was a bit structurally unstable, as it was stuffed to the max with stuff. This along with my fervent hunger prevented me from taking a photo #yelperfail. The falafel was fresh and tasted fine, but I found it to be pretty run of the mill. I think the sandwich could be improved with a warm pita and maybe chunkier falafel. What really made this pita sing were the nice fresh mix of vegetables, the house eggplant, and the hot sauce. The lettuce green mix was peppery and had a great crunch. The house eggplant was a bit messy but amazing in flavor. I savored each chunk of roasted eggplant and wanted more. I also dropped a bunch on me but luckily I wear dark clothes. The hot sauce had an excellent herbal flavor from the Harissa. Overall, it's not a bad place to grab a quick bite. I would recommend it for a quick lunch in the area.

I came here a few weeks ago to get a side of falafel for $3-- great deal and the falafel tasted great. Therefore, I returned 2 days ago to get an actual meal at Falafel King. I got the gyros plate (gyro meat, salad, 6 falafel, and a pita). I got all the toppings on my salad and chose a wheat pita. Overall, the flavors of everything were good (notably the salad and falafel). The gyro meat was a bit dry and they also gave me the smallest portion. I would hope for a $7.99 GYROS plate that they would give you more gyro meat, but there was a lot more salad. Should have been called a salad plate. The pita was just okay. Service was good. The guys working at the counter were friendly and I got my food rather quickly. I took it to go. All in all, good for a fast and cheap meal, but I wouldn't say this is my go to gyro spot. Definitely great falafel though.

Really like the gyro plate with falafels. Recommend the tabouli, red pepper hummus, gyro, and falafels.

Huge portions here -- I usually get the 4x6 plate which is four salads and six falafel balls. There is certainly better middle eastern food to be had in the area, though this place is quite fast comparatively. The decor is haphazard, chairs are uncomfortable. The bathroom isn't very clean. In short, get it to go.

I just love this place - no frills - nothing fancy - just healthy portions and freshly made. Whenever I'm feeling a little Mediterranean, this is place that comes to mind.

I live in the neighborhood and absolutely love eating here. I have always found the food to be delicious, the service kind, and the restaurant clean. I noticed most of the bad reviews are relatively old, so maybe they're under new ownership or management. Whatever the reason, I think this place has turned a corner. I give it a high recommendation.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place in terms of quality of food and price of this Boulder-based restaurant. I ordered the plain gyro which came out to be around $6 and was a PERFECT portion to fill me up without being overwhelming (READ: carb/grease crash). I must say it contained the BEST tzatziki sauce that I have ever had... nice and tangy! It also came with a pleasant hot sauce inside, and as a New Mexican, "spicy sauce" is practically another food group. I am going to order the sampler plate next time I go in order to try the sides/falafels they have to offer. It was only $2 more and my friend ordered it and it offers a lot more food (did I mention I'm a starving student and love getting the most bang for my buck?) Service was good, atmosphere was charming, and quality was great! Good work guys.

Every time we go here my vegetarian child gets to eat! I'm so excited when I get to eat here because everything is made fresh and taste absolutely warm or gooey and delicious. It is not often my family and I can go to a place in all of us be happy but this would be one of them! We know make it a tradition that when we go to Trader Joe's we go to falafel King. if you were in the mood for Mediterranean whether you're at the taste of Colorado or on Colorado and eighth avenue you've got to go try falafel King it is amazing and delicious and I love the falafel's there I also love the different types of lemonade.finally you get to sit in environment that is relaxing and allows you to focus on the food and enjoy the people walking by or driving on Colorado Boulevard. It's a great location and great food.

It's not bad for fast dining. Enjoyed that they had lemons soaking in the complimentary water. It was fresh too, which was nice. I'm not a expert on what falafel should be like, but this was much more moist than anything I've had- big plus. One negative is the restroom smelled like cigarettes. Not sure if it was a guest or someone working there.

I really enjoyed this quick lunch. After coming down off a stomach bug, it was just what the doctor ordered. I had the 6 times 4 falafel plate, boyfriend had a Donir. I liked everything, except the Dolmas, kind of vinegary.

Great for a quick, healthy meal! I had the falafel plate with tabbouleh and eggplant and thought it was well-seasoned and tasty.

  • Kristin H.

This place is delicious! I ordered the falafel plate and I've never had such fresh, delicious falafel. The salad was crisp, green and fresh. Tabbouleh was flavorful and also delicious. I also chose hummus as a side, and I wasn't disappointed. The only thing that I would've preferred is if the pita were softer/fresher. But maybe that's how it was supposed to be. The service was fast and friendly. I'm just visiting Denver, but would definitely eat here again if ever in the area.

Saw that Chipotle was packed, and heard Felafel King was good. So glad I opted for Felafel King. The service was friendly and helpful (nice after a long day at work), and the food was perfect. The generous portions of salad, chicken and hummus were fresh and tasty. Super cool little gem on Colorado Blvd.

Not a good expereience. We originally were going to the Mexican place next door but after seeing it was closed we decided to try Falafel King. Most of the dishes are about $8.99. Its a little pricey compared to other places like this. (Garbanzos) I ordered the Gyro plate which came with salad on the side. The salad was not fresh looking and very iceberg. Put some green lettuce on the plate! The most annoying part about the whole experience is that they weigh your food prior to cooking it. The lady took the gyro out of a silver tin and put it on a scale and from the scale she put it on the grill. Realizing that it weighed a little much she took it off the grill and back into the silver tin. REALLY?? If youre gonna weigh food on the line, dont do it where the customers can see you! I would not recommend this place!

  • Valerie E.

Ick. Grimy is the best word to describe my first impression. Food did not even register on the likeability scale, especially the wilted tabbouleh salad.

  • Shaun F.

This place is ok but maybe they should rename themselves Falafel Serf? The interior is nicely decorated, although the chairs weight what feels like 50 pounds, so weaked armed people beware! I think they killed 5 trees for the lumber in that place. Anyway, it is a pretty inefficent sent up for ordering. They only had two staff running the front during lunch, which seemed pretty sparse. The food was well flavored but like another reviewer said they were sparse on protein. My friend ordered the tabouli as a side and she said it tasted like Thanksgiving stuffing. I ordered the Gyros plate and it did fill me up, but really wasn't anything to write home about. Your mom has probably eaten better tabouli in Iowa.

I feel like the owner of this place has given up. the downhill slide of the quality, cleanliness, and overall customer experience is horrible. even after paying extra for additional meat, I was still given tiny quantities when compared to garbanzos. the pita was old and dry. bummed, would rather give my money to a local place over a chain, but this place needs a complete revamp. will not be back

Could you provide service to people waiting in line ANY SLOWER?

Pretty decent place! I've driven by it a lot since being at the VA and decided to finally check it out. They have falafels and gyros and different combinations of those and many different salads. I decided to go with the gyro plate. It was full of salad and both lamb and beef. You get to pick 2 salads and I went for the hummus and mushroom ones, both delicious. The service here was great too, nice and fast! A surprisingly good find!

  • Michael M.

I really hate giving bad reviews but if you like a good gyro, do not order one from here. NO GOOD. I'm pretty sure they grabbed some pre-cooked-cut meat out of a box, heated it up in the microwave, and served it up as a gyro. If you're looking for a traditional gyro, run from this place. Charlie Browns kills this place. I truly wish I walked down to GOODTIMES or ordered a sub from one of our local sandwich joints.

  • Beau W.

Should be 3 1/2 stars. I was a little surprised at the bad reviews. Maybe I came on a good day. I liked the atmosphere. Kind of. The staff was very knowledgeable about the products. I really appreciate that. If you don't know Mediterranean food, they are happy to walk you through it. My girlfriend ordered a chicken pita without tzatziki. I know.. She is really picky though. She actually liked it. I was surprised. It looked boring. The chicken was marinated, so I guess that was enough. I had the gyros plate. It was pretty darn good. It came with a mixed greens salad with a nice vinaigrette. Of course, the traditional lamb/beef doner kebab sliced off the log. Those vertical rotisseries are cool. They are made so that when you slice a piece off, it spins around. The exposed area turns crispy. So the meat was good; the salad was good. The red pepper hummus was very good. Not as good as mine, but pretty good. The tzatziki was kind of bland. Most are though. The mushrooms were great. The star was the falafel. As it should be. It is called Falafel King and all. I love a good chickpea fritter... Well okay, lets stick with falafel. It's a bit catchier. It had a great flavor and a great texture. All in all, a good place.

The food here is good, the owner is terrible! I had gone in around a year ago, I don't get in often because it is far from me, I ordered a Falafel without anything on it other than hummus. When I got to the movie theater and went to eat my Falafel it had everything on it, I couldn't eat it at all but it was too late to go back and get a new one so I called the next day and the manager told me that she would put my name down and that I could come in and get a free one whenever I was in the area. I went back in and the owner was there; I explained the situation and he flat out told me that if I didn't know the managers name he wouldn't know if I was telling the truth. I told him that I could easily afford to pay for the Falafel, and asked if he thought I was lying... to which he said yes. I cannot believe how I was treated by the man who told me flat out that he was the owner. I will never return to this location, I would never support the business of someone who thinks it is ok to treat customers that way. *I should add that we were also buying 2 other Falafel at the same time, so it isn't like I walked in and asked for something free without buying something.*

I am like a hound dog for sniffing out smoothies. It's kind of to the point where I just find them accidentally now and that was the case at Falafel King. I was in the mood for a lighter lunch (no meat) and so I thought I'd hop in here quickly and pick up something with hummus or falafel, only to be greeted with a smoothie menu as soon as I walked in. Yes! I still ended up ordering the Falafel Plate which they let me get half and half hummus and falafel (3 balls instead of 6 that come on the regular plate) with two sides. While it was okay I wasn't a huge fan of the falafel balls themselves. They were kind of small and dry. I also ordered the aforementioned smoothie and while it took a long time to make it was quite thick and full of delicious fruits so I enjoyed my fix for the day. If I were in a pinch I might come back to this spot for lunch again, but I'll most likely choose another spot for my smoothie and/or falafel fix.

I love this place! Super helpful and knowledgeable staff. If you are gluten free you can eat almost everything at this place. I had the falafel plate with salad, dolmas and red pepper hummus. They gave me a side of rice instead of a pita. It was very filling and delicious.

I always enjoy this place. Quality food at fast food pricing. The grilled chicken plate with hummus and salad is a great meal with solid portions.

I love falafel, I really do. But this place was a disappointment today. I went there with The Boy - I got the falafel plate and he had a shwarma pita. Both were less than good. My main complaints were; The salad is precut - tomatoes, cukes, lettuce, and sits there all day, so it's all kindof flavorless and mushy. Plus, it seemed as though someone had squirted a lemon, on top of dressing it, so it was weirdly acidic and sour. Too sour to be good. The hummus side had the same problem. Too much lemon. I know you put lemon in hummus but it was actually SOUR - so sour you couldn't taste the nuttiness off the garbanzos or the tahini. I couldn't finish it! My other complaint was - Skimpy on the protein, much? Come on now, everything they serve there has very inexpensive base ingredients. They would do well to give you a little more meat and/or falafel. Especially if you can't eat the sides because they are too sour!! On the plus side, the people were nice and the pita was fresh. But, all in all, I left longing for Damascus and unsatisfied with Falafel King.

Nothing wrong with this fast food falafel joint. $7.50 for 1/2 doz f-balls and a couple of side salads (baba ganoush and Greek salad for me) along with a decent piece o' pita's not a bad lunch deal. Every once and a while when my Semitic side surfaces, I need me some fried chick pea hoohah and the F King does it for me.

I first went to Falafel King in Boulder nearly 15 years ago and fell in love. Was so happy to find one near my new home on Colorado Blvd. This place is by far the best gyro in town. Always has been, always will be. I've tried other gyro places like Garbanzos and they are just terrible. Will always keep coming back here, there is really no comparison. Except the gyro vendors on the street of NYC - they are the only ones who taste just like Falafel King, this place is the real deal. Their staff is also always friendly, I just love everything about this place. It's my go to gyro place, and nothing else comes close to second.

I ordered the supreme greek salad that came with falafels. It came with 3...and they were so small. I'd probably give them 4 stars if those delicious chickpea balls were about double the size! The hummus was great, too!

Great food, staff was helpful, great option for a quick meal. I had the shwarma plate, falfels and salad. Service was great and the food was fresh. Only complaint is they don't have meat roasting in the restaurant. Everything is pre cut.

This is four star when you consider what this is - a Fast Food 'mediterrean' joint on Colorado. During a recent trip, we ordered a falafel pita, a lamb gyro pita, and a side of hummus and grape leaves. While the falafel's were a bit over cooked, everything in combination tasted great and definitely satisfied. I have no problem saying that if you're in the mood for Mediterrean and you want it quick, this joint will certainly satisfy.

I use to like this place years ago. The food was good enough, and the prices were reasonable. However, after eating there today I will not be back. I had the gyros plate, which was definitely sub-par compared to other places around town that have recently opened up. I would rate the mean alone at 3 stars. They were out of normal plates, so even though we wanted to eat inside the establishment, we had to eat out of Styrofoam containers. (we were the only ones in the place) Not a big deal, but a little annoying. I went to wash hands, and the men's sink had no hot water. The bathroom was filthy with grime and obvious stuff that has been there a very long time. When I walked by the kitchen door, it was propped open. The floor was gross and everything in sight looked dirty. I wish I would have washed my hands before I ate, rather than after, because I would have left, whether I had my food or not. Again... I'm not one to leave bad reviews, but this place needs some work to be compettive with other places. All I can say is when a restaurant runs out of plates, there are definitely more serious issues going on.

good food. the felafel is fried to order and is very soft and moist. the sauces are tasty and the pita is fresh. they stayed open for me since i walked in 1 minute before closing. that was very nice!

it's fast food falafel. I love that any "platter" you get (whether it's the gyro, the falafel, or the schwarma platter) you have a choice of two "salads"...greek salad, taboulee, hummus, etc! It's quick and easy! I love their falafels but their gyro meet is way too greasy...but like I said, it's a fast food joint so I can't complain when I get my meal in 3 minutes.

Good option for vegans looking for a quick bite to eat. Their falafel pita is tasty and you can get fries on the side. The staff are all very friendly and the place is usually quiet. They also have some yummy vegan options for dessert!

For a quick, cheap, semi-healthy lunch, Falafel King is a-ok! Not much ambiance or authentic feel with this small sterile looking joint. I ordered the greek salad special which came with an option of one greek "salad." I'm a sucker for grape leaves so I chose those, and they were really good. The entire salad as a whole was not that impressive. But, combined with the wheat pita, it did fill me up! If you want more authentic Greek food, head to Melita's on Lincoln. You won't regret it.

We couldnt decide between Thai or Indian, so we went mediterrean. We both had the falafel ball combo, which comes with 2 salad options, and 1 meat option. So it was a small salad with your meat on it, and your 2 sides, some falafel balls, pita and sauces. Their salad choices vary widely- hummus, grape leaves, tabouli, etc. It was hard to narrow it down to 2. We both chose tabouli and red pepper hummus. I had lamb gyro meat, and my partner had chicken. AMAZING is all I can say. Hearty and filling, yet light and refreshing. The meat was tasty and moist. I wanted more hummus and more hummus. It was creamy and slightly spicy due to the red pepper. The place is hard to get to is my only down fall. The interior is also small and quirky. Semi expensive but well worth it.

stopped in because it's by my credit union and I didn't want to start gnawing on my own wrist... Very happy with my meal! hummus, tabouli and falafel were all delicious. The girls who were serving were awesome, really nice and made good recommendations. I would definitely eat there again!

I'm new to Denver, so I don't know if there was a change in ownership or what, but my trip to Falafel King was great. I got the falafel pita, and everything about it was dank. The pita bread was soft, the falafel was fresh, and the price was right ($5.25 I think). The employees were friendly and helpful, answering my millions of questions without getting annoyed. I'd go back for sure, but after reading these reviews I'm worried that I just got lucky.
