I do love the combination of Dairy Queen and Orange Julius. Even better, I love the fact that I can order custom ice cream cakes for my kids' birthdays and know they will come out perfect and be delicious. I walked in yesterday and ordered something that will need to be drawn free hand, and received friendly, helpful service. It's such a relief to know I don't have to worry about if it will be ready on time or if it will be correct (unlike at my local Safeway).

My now colocated with Orange Julius and I can get my favorite banana cream pie blizzard or an strawberry julius any time I want. Place looks great and they kept the fantastic huge vintage photo on the wall, which made me super happy.

Clean. Sparkling frickin' clean. You could practically eat off any surface in here. Maybe that's every day, maybe that was just the result of a monthly cleaning. But I was impressed enough to mention it first thing. They have a new(?) choco-covered-cheesecake Blizzard treat that I'm sure would send most choco-powered taste buds drooling. I almost fell for that myself. However, I am coming down with a cold or something and my throat hurts...I wanted something as liquid as it was solid, i.e. shake. I settled on a large strawberry/cherry and it was every bit as delicious as I hoped it would be (I had half of it -- that's a lot of sugar -- the rest went in the freezer). Sooooo good. Amusingly, or sadly, as with most things in American culture, the healthier the product, the more it costs. Ice cream shakes are less than "Chillers" are less than "Light Smoothies", which I wanted just as much as the shake, but the shake was around $5 and the smoothie was around $7. Go fig. Thanks for the extra calories!! :p lol. It's close by for me now, and it's a welcome break on tough days for me. Sometime I'll have to try the OJ product, which I haven't had in probably a good 8-10 years, and see if it's as good or better than I remember it.

This location was clean and quiet inside. But they wouldn't put sprinkles on my cone. I'm 28 years old and have never in my life heard of an ice cream shop not putting sprinkles on a cone. That was literally all I wanted, and the cashier was nice enough to offer a cup of sprinkles, but wtf.

It might be hard to differentiate one DQ from another, until the Chill & Grill concept comes to Colorado. That being said, I have to make special mention of this particular DQ because of the awesome gluten free half birthday cake I was able to get. They require 24 hour notice for making cakes, but other than that one requirement they are pretty accepting of all cake requests. They have a list of gluten free candies, in case you don't have your own, as well as using gluten free fudge as filling/topping. I found it daunting to find a gluten free ice cream cake in Denver. It's ice cream, in an ice cream crazy town, but nonetheless. (seriously, you HAVE to add stuff to it to make it non-gluten free.) Thankfully, this DQ was there to hook it up and save the day. It was the ONLY place in town that could fill my request. The woman who answered the phone and took my order was very friendly and had lots of fun suggestions. It was apparent that she enjoyed making cakes and it made placing my order pretty enjoyable. Not all DQ's make their own cakes. Many receive them from a central processing plant, so altering the cakes in any way is impossible. This location actually makes their cakes. If you are looking for a great gluten free ice cream cake, or just a great ice cream cake and you are in central or south Denver, give this place a try.

I love DQ and Orange Julius, but the service here sucks. Maybe because the have a bunch of high school students working there. I waited in drive through for about ten minutes, all while one young man worked the drive through, made the treats, and collected cash. I watched a young girl and guy stand around talking the whole time. Will never be going back again.

DQ is merging with Orange Julius at this location, which is fine by me. Went there this afternoon. It's still my favorite place when I want simple ice cream. Just a cone, a Dilly bar, or an ice cream sandwich.
