4 stars for having lots of character: longtime joint, frequented by locals, everyone has character 2 stars for food I was looking for a place to grab a bite after stopping by the nearby DMV. At 11:15am, this place was already hopping - looked like a lot of locals and regulars. I ordered the #7 chicken burrito with beans, cheese, and lettuce. Order first, wait for food, pay when your food is ready. With a half dozen people ahead of me, I still had to wait 15 minutes for my order to be ready. I'm not sure where the slow down is, as I could see all the orders lined up and waiting to be packaged. Unfortunately, my burrito was lukewarm and the flavors uninspiring. I'll go there again if I'm in the neighborhood, so I can try their breakfast burrito (get there before 11am).

The Creamery is the best in the area, has been family owned for over 30 yrs & still delicious. # 7 is one of my favs all the combos are great & for the price you can feast like a family of 10 in Mexico does.

Delicious! I love their beef and bean burrito smothered with half and half chile. They put lettuce and cheese in the inside, which is different, but I don't mind it. You gotta loce a nice sized burrito for under $4. They do take credit cards, but make sure you bring your ID too, otherwise, you have to pay cash.

So if I'm ever in the area I always have to come here for a quick bite it is a fast place with no seating but so good! !! And the prices are great

I had no idea this place was a Mexican restaurant until a fellow yelper checked in here. What a great find!!! It obviously is a well established place been around forever but I think they like to keep it undercover by calling it a creamery. Prices are reasonable and chile is flavorful. I ordered the hot and next time I might need to get half and half. Bit I'll be back for sure.

Food is great tasting BUT I've been going here for years and today I ordered asada FRIES and got asada onions there were like 6 fries smothered in onion and a bloop of chili. Come on guys your chili is good but it's called smothered not wet with chili. Keep your portions consistent.

I had high hopes for this place... so many good reviews, I even overheard one of my co-workers saying how great this place was. Boy was I disappointed. The place is small and it's take-out only. The cashier guy was funny & nice. I had the #15, 2 cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. I really want to give this place more stars, but honestly... the Spanish rice was awful, and the beans were only slightly better. Do people not know Spanish rice is not supposed to be crunchy?? It's supposed to be fluffy. It was not. I took one bite and was done with it. The beans were average, with some burnt areas on the top. My cheese enchiladas were pretty decent (best part of the meal) and covered in red sauce. However, the sauce just seemed kind of bland. My bf was excited for a carne asada/steak taco... however they don't make those I guess. Just ground beef. Ground beef taco with hard shell = white people taco. So I guess my conclusion is that this is a White People Mexican food place. If you like that type of Mexican food you will like this place... obviously some people love that type of mexican food since this place has so many good reviews. I don't. I won't be back.

Holy hangover heaven! This is the perfect place for some homemade Mexican food on the go. The Creamery is nestled in a Five Points neighborhood, and their menu includes the typical staple Mexican items. I would recommend one of their combo plates so you can try a variety of items. Make sure you get it smothered in their mild green chile or hot red chile! The wait time is minimal, and their prices are on point. Grab some lunch and walk across the street to enjoy your food at Curtis Park!

Love this place for what it is a hole in the wall Mexican fast food place with great food and great prices . Love the chile relleno smothered. Years ago there was a place called Lorenzo's on south federal that sold similar ones although they used fresh roasted hot chiles I wish the creamery would consider this. The chile is a red flake garlic chile which us amazing. Beef always needs salt and the beans are great.

When I first moved to Denver it reminded me of Oz: everything was all shiny and new, full of promise and vigor, a beautiful place no doubt, with a spectacular snow-capped backdrop. Where the sun's radiance is omnipresent, and the inhabitants conceal their individuality behind mirrored shades as they chase their wants, and where their dreams do indeed come true. I also thought that maybe this was a bit of an illusion; there had to be a little grit behind all those reflective glass clad skyscrapers, where the wide concrete freeways give way to neighborhood streets with timeworn houses based on human scale and a different kind of vitality. Where the pace is less hurried and whose inhabitants occasionally reveal their soul, but most importantly share in their secret places for good, cheap, and thoroughly satisfying food. I was not wrong. Denver does have grit, you just have to work for it, seek it out a bit, and just ask. You will be rewarded more than you know. The Curtis Park Creamery is a local kind of place and has been for a while. This restaurant is not only a place that is locally owned, it has a funky history, and serves up some mighty tasty and cheap Mexican food. I am not an authority of this type of food, but I do know what I like and that usually involves some kind of cheese. No problem finding that here. And when that cheese comes encased in smoky poblanos, is deep fried, and then is 'smothered' in an amazing red chile, then you have definitely reached my soul. I ordered the #17 combo which consisted of two of the aforementioned smothered (smo. on the menu) rellenos and a side of beans and rice that were also both smo., all for only $6.99. Wow. The sauce had a warming heat which is perfect for a cold Denver day, heck it's great for a hot Denver day. The side of refried beans is not your usual chain version but a slightly soupy rendition and had a depth of flavor which could never be mistaken for anything remotely resembling 'fast casual'. And the rice, again surprisingly flavored with more of that wonderful smo. Mmmm. I think that smo. really means "give me some mo'!" In addition to the combo plates, there are burritos (all for less than $5, with a smo. bean and cheese, $3.35), enchiladas, menudo (yup!), tacos, etc. Oh, there is also Frito Pie on the menu board. Frito Pie! The Curtis Park Creamery is strictly a carry out place, you will need to get in line with everyone else, and when it is your turn to place your order you better know what you want from the menu board because this place gets busy. Definitely worth a trip for a quick lunch if you are anywhere near Curtis Park, i.e. 20 miles. 003.13

Curtis Park Creamery - great place: * Know what you want _before_ you're placing your order * Hot means hot * No seating, but there's a park right out in front * Know what you want before... (ok, that's a repeat)

Despite it's name there is no ice cream here.... but awesome breakfast burritos... unsmothered and good lunch & dinner.

Love this place! Get the hot smothered chicken burrito and add their Pico and a little sour cream on top. So good!

Not ice cream as originally thought, but Mexican food in my neighborhood?! Awesome! Went and loved it even more: great service, really friendly staff, delicious food! You can't really ask for more! Had the green chili tamale, bean burrito and chili rellano and they were filling, extremely cheap and I felt like I was part of a cool club of people who actually knew what this place was. Of course, if you're looking for a fancy joint, I can imagine you've already figured out that you should go elsewhere - this place is the real deal. It's a great place to just grab and go, as a lot of the other reviews mention, it doesn't have a place inside to sit, but there is Curtis Park right across the street, so you can just grab a spot to eat on a nice day. It's filling and tasty - I'd go here the morning following a fun night out, or just for a nice afternoon of delsh Mexican food! Highly recommended.

Hello hole in the wall with a name that sounds like an ice cream shop... This place is amazing - sorta like "the soup natzi" know what you want, order all at once and then move to the far size of the cash register and pay! The sauces are great, the burritos are great - breakfast or lunch - and the meat choices... Yummy and cheap!! Definitely not as scary as the neighborhood appears! Give it a try!

YAY Mexican food! Not sure where the creamery name comes from, but I like mexican food WAY better than ice cream, and milk, so... Yay!

As a out of towner looking for cheap eats, this was the perfect spot. The staff was super nice and I guess I look like I am NOT from Denver. the food was tasty. Cinnamon chips are the bomb!! get them!

This is the best place to order tamales for large groups. They are reasonably priced, and if you call ahead they will have them hot and ready for you to pick up within an hour. This is DenMex at its best. During the summer, go to the Curtis Park outdoor pool, work up a giant appetite and then get filled with spicy chile and delicious burritos.

  • Lindy L.

It's not ice cream--it's tasty, bargain, fast Mexican food. Tiny, to-go only place with a long line that moves really quickly thanks to the efficient service, that was quite friendly, just make sure that you follow the rules--order to the left, no substitutions, and move to the right to pay. Better to pay with cash. I got the #14: bean and cheese burrito, tamale with choice of red or green chili (got green), and chile relleno, smothered in hot chile. A delicious red chile, which was a happy surprise. I'm used to everything being smothered in green chili. All that and a can of Diet Coke for under $7. They have a huge soda selection, which tempted me to veer from my usual Mexican food beverage of choice. I liked the chile relleno best.

THE RED CHILE HERE IS amazing! there is something to that damn stuff that will hook even the largest 'spice-wuss"

Chicano style Mexican food.....americanized, modified....come on peeps, don't expect something the same, this place is different. Before ya'll gabachos started moving into the E, this place was and still is a hit with the true "locals". I've since moved from the E, but still take the extra time to drive down here just for this. Yummmm, smothered chile relleno and #4 smothered were on my mind today....after being deathly ill for the past week, something other than liquid lunch popped into my mind and here is where I ended up. Today's chile was hot, hotter than I recall and hit the spot right on. Nothing like a little heartburn and irritable bowl syndrome after a week of liquid lunch!

This place is ol skool when it comes to Mexican food. The staff are friendly and eager to strike up a conversation and have a great sense of humor. Cant go wrong with the smothered burrito and frito pie. But they did forget my Crispy sticks. But i shall be back, long as the sun is up. Not sure id frequent the neighborhood at night.

I love this confusing little place. Curtis Park Creamery? No ice cream? Whaaa? I walked in on a busy afternoon, got in line, ordered 3 smothered tamales for a whopping $4 and drank up the awesome 'hole in the wall' atmosphere. These ladies mean business so take your time and choose what you want before you hem and haw in line with them because they MAY kick your ass out of line. No bullshit here. Love that. You wait in line after you order and they'll call out your number. Don't pass up those delightful chicharrones while you wait. The guy behind the register is beyond friendly and there isn't a credit card minimum which I was thankful for when my whole order cost under five bucks. A word of warning - the hot chili is NO JOKE. I have successfully dulled my spicy taste buds and it had my nose running and my mouth on fire. Awesome.

  • Tim H.

It's ok. They didn't get my order right. They have cheap Mexican food that's pretty quick. The only thing holding up the line was the speed of the credit card machine. It is a hole in the wall place. Service was fine. You can get a lot of food for little money. I was actually impressed by the variety of cold drinks and sodas they had on hand. I may try it again some time. Maybe.

Went there not knowing what to expect, but the "anti-nit-picky" signage by the menu and the simplicity of the menu left something to the imagination. Expected short and snappy remarks judging from the vibe and signage, (think Chubby's do's and dont's signs everywhere) as they took our order, but they were incredibly friendly (albeit slow at the time). Simple, good and cheap. We got two combo plates and each was better than the last. Chili was good (got the mix of mild and hot, going to get hot next time), Tamales and Rellenos were FANTASTIC. FYI: Its called the Curtis Park Creamery because the name was grandfathered in when they took over the space 42 years ago and they just never changed the name. So if your going for ice cream you'll be disappointed but pleasantly surprise with great Mexican food! Also it's very small, no dine in, walk through only (Think Subway or Chipotle type ordering)

The food is good, I've been eating the Chile Rellenos, and other mexican food for over 20 years! The Chile Rellenos are great if you like it hot.

Ain't nothing bad about my neighborhood Mexican takeout joint. Its fast, its cheap and it tastes good. So I can't complain. I haven't eaten here more than once so this review is purely based on the tasty not smothered burrito I ordered. It was hot and delicious. The (i think) mild green chilli sauce wasn't too spicy, but had just enough kick to flavor up the basic base of meat, beans, tomato, lettuce and cheese. Service was fast and friendly. Food was good and cheap. No complaints here!

I would like to start by saying that I'm extremely and I mean very surprised that many of the reviewers on Yelp haven't rated this place yet. Perhaps its the location or some factor I don't know about. However, this place is yummy and can hold its own against the North Denver famous Chubbys Mexican food on 38th and Lipan. From the outside this place doesn't seem to promising, but open the door and see how quickly you change your mind. Even though the interior is small the service is very quick. As soon as you order your burrito, tostada, or chile relleno you will be at the cash register paying with a ten dollar bill. One thing to note is that the beans, green chile or red chile salsa is extremely runny. There is a reason why they give you the food in a paper bag turned sideways. If you hold it the other way you will be eaten alive. Now you may start to wonder where the heck am I going to eat. Well, there's a park right in front of you. Or you can take the food home. So take this into account when visiting.

  • Chloe W.

So good. So so good! This place has the best tamales that I have found in Denver. The red chile that is used to smother them is like nothing I have had before. The hot is definitely hot, but no so much so that you do not appreciate the flavor. This is my new favorite food spot! Puts many other Mexican places in town to shame!

So this is a walk-thru order as you move mexican joint. The food is decent, not amazing. Tamales and burritos are good. Avoid the chili rellenos.

It's great to have a mexican restaurant in walking distance in te Five Points neighborhood and I was excited when I saw a couple good reviews about Curtis Park Creamery. I finally stopped in and wow, I was disappointed. The service was fast but unfriendly (0ther than the gentleman at the cash register, he was very nice), my order was wrong and was missing the extras that I paid for, and the food turned out to be very average...even the green chili was disappointing.

I have never actually been here, but several freinds have brought me burritos from here, and the red and green chillie with beef and been is soooo good. I just wanted to make sure that everyone else knew that . But so far, my co-workers love this place, and so far they keep bringing me great burritos.

Savory, spicy, delicious! I got 2 tamales smothered in green chili and a soda. At $1.95 per tamal and 75 cents for the soda it was good deals all around. My biggest pet peeve with tamales is when they are dry and over-steamed. These were perfectly moist and delicious. The surprisingly spicy green chili made my eyes water and my nose run, but that didn't stop me from slurping every last delicious bit! Just for this week, I'm working less than a block away from the Creamery and if I had more cash in my wallet I would go back for seconds right now!

Great food, and just around the corner. I can't believe it took me over a year to find this place. It's take out only, but they do take credit cards. A combo plate (I'd recommend #14 or the Green Chile plate), will run you about $6 smothered in fresh green or red chile. Their tamales seem to be their calling card. They're 6 for $5.75 or 12 for $10. The food was plenty spicy for everyone in my group without needing to bust out any additional hot sauce. A great value.

OK I'm a harsh critic on restaurants so bear with me. Yes this place is a hole in the wall. Yes it is in a neighborhood that you might get shot in for your shoe's. So why 5 stars? I'll tell you the food is so frickin good I've never had its equal in Mexican cuisine! I gained 10 pounds from this crazy addiction! from the spicy red sauce to the exquisite tamales nothing wasn't scrumptious! And after only 3 visits the boss man who runs the register at the end of this long gravy train knew my face and was happy to see me return! He even gave me Free drinks sometimes. That equals awesome in my book!

I'm not really surprised to find that this hidden gem has not been reviewed before. It isn't a destination. You don't wake up and excitedly pronounce "Honey! It's Creamery Time!!" Nope, you are going here because you are in the hood, you are traveling into downtown from the northside backroads, uhh, well, or you know how good the food is, and don't mind going out of the way for it. Good burritos, solid green chile, and consistently decent food run by a great family, in an ancient environment. the Creamery doesn't feel like it's changed EVER. I have been digging this place for over 20 years, quietly savoring it like coming home for a quick lunch at your grandmother's house (If my Grammy was Mexican-American, cooked like that instead of frozen Stouffer's , and was still pumping it out after this long at the stove!) If you find yourself in the hood and hungry for a cheap, yummy burrito not made by mecho-burritorobot from giantcompanysvillle then you should stop in and say hi!

I've been here a couple times now, and it's soon becoming my favorite to-go breakfast burrito place, but mostly based on price and location (near me.) And yes everyone needs a to-go breakfast burrito place. I wouldn't recommend their much advertised "Green Chile plate" though. This is essentially green chile stew, but not served in a bowl. Sound problematic? It was. The flavor was great, but it was served in one of those square styrofoam divided containers! By the time I got home 2 blocks away, the green chile, healthy portion of refried beans, and rice had all settled and caused a serious overflow problem. Good thing they sent me home with a couple tortillas to soak it up with. The real reason not to recommend this dish was the chunks of BONE I kept fishing out. This freaked me out. I'd really avoid anything with green chile if you want to save your dental work. Second time was much better, when I got a vegetarian breakfast burrito smothered in hot red chile salsa. Great price ($3), great taste, but beware vegetarians, they snuck a couple pieces of pork into my burrito! Not sure how they got there... All I have to say is eater beware...

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
