Decent, but the service is always hit or miss. Usually way understaffed. Food is decent, but pricey for a college bar. Have watched it go through so many different owners over 4 years of grad school... And I hope that they can revive it against

I have never been a fan. Several lame experiences. I came here for Halloween a year or two ago and was disgusted with how many people in there clearly were underage, and belligerent. Took so long to get a drink that we just left. Once we came here on a busy night and a friend of mine was standing in line at the ladies restroom. A girl in front of her dropped her id, so my friend picked it up for her and said "Excuse me, I think you dropped this." The girl went, "UGH!" and snatched it out of her hand. I have gone on an awful tinder date here once. The salad was plain and expensive. The guy was crappy enough. And he wouldn't pay for it. Bummer. I came here in the summer to meet a friend attending the law school nearby. All of the waitstaff were wearing very revealing clothing. I was told they were pressured by management to dress in this attire. Old creepy men were gawking at them. I felt very bad for these girls, granted they picked the job, but this is not a location that should require that kind of dress code. Come on, it is a small college bar with the schools colors literally in the name of the establishment, giving DU a trashing rep to hockey fans and average patrons like myself who do not come here to see that. Happy hour prices have been hit or miss. They always change the specials so no telling if they are going to be decent or not before walking in. It's a bummer, because I lived a block away and this could have been my local hangout if it was more legit. This entire street needs some improving, but I guess at least there are cheaper drinks across the street at Merchants but the employees over there are all on drugs. But at least they have a pool table.

I need to start off by saying that I LOVE dive bars...but this place is GROSS. First of all it smells like a fart (literally). And the owner said that smell happens when they turn the heat on...um,what? Secondly, the food is overpriced. We paid $7 for FIVE jalapeño poppers and another $7 for the worst fried pickles we have ever had. The beer is warm and just doesn't taste right. Now here comes the best part...my fiancé and I went on New Years Eve just to play some pool and drink cheap drinks. Like I said, the beer was gross and our drinks were WAY too strong. Now, we wanted to get a couple shots to take when the clock struck midnight so we ordered 2 shots and 2 mini bottles of champagne around 11:45. The bartender acknowledged us but apparently forgot about our drinks because of the huge group of frat guys at the end of the bar. (I should add that they were all flashing cash and getting their drinks almost immediately) I guess it's more important to flirt with young rich kids than to accommodate ALL customers. Two out of the three bartenders they had that night would not leave that end of the bar. And to top it off, they DID pour two glasses of champagne...and they drank them themselves!! When the other bartender came over and asked if we needed anything she was VERY rude and was making hand motions as for me to "hurry up" and tell her what we wanted. As if it's MY fault that I'm confused by their disorganization. (I was confused because the other girl forgot to make our drinks). Seriously wtf. We left our bartender a 50 cent tip and got the hell out of there. And ps, hiring only three bartenders on one of the busiest nights of the year is just dumb.

TERRIBLE customer service at the bar. Unfortunately, we weren't even given an opportunity to try their food or drink. A girlfriend and I decided to visit C&G the evening of Friday, April 4th. We sat at the bar for at least 15 minutes before a tall, handsome black bartender finally approached us (The place was moderately busy; by no means so slammed as to justify the wait). However, rather than ask us to order, he rudely informed us that we were in someone else's seats as two men approach us from behind to order drinks. Confused, I respond "Excuse me?!" While the gentlemen behind us apologetically assure we are not in their seats, the bartender once again says we are in their seats and stands there, waiting for us to get up. Completely offended, and given no option to order food or drinks, we leave. Granted, this place is a college bar, where exceptional customer service can't be expected to land high on the list. However, having visited every other bar in the area with sufficiently courteous staff and service, that C&G is a college bar is no excuse for this bartender's conduct. The manner in which we were treated was unfortunate and totally unacceptable.

Meh. This is a university spot, and as not-a-student, I don't recommend it. Basic bar food, uninteresting drinks.

I was looking for something to do on a Thursday night and this was definitely the place to be! The music was great! A great mix of music and a great DJ. The service was outstanding! The drinks were not that expensive at all. Easy to meet people here and make friends! Their patio in the back is pretty sweet. I loved that they had free Wi-Fi too. Only thing is that it is mad crowded when you are there on a poppin night. Other than that I had a great time.

I absolutely love this place!! I'm here way too often because they are the best bar in town!! Such amazing service and the bartenders are pretty hot ;)

I just moved to the area to start a masters program and find the selection of bars around DU terribly sad. I come from a big ten college town and can appreciate a good college-y bar, but this area really lacks one. The only time I've been into the C&G was when a few sober friends and I walked in at 1:20 am to get a late drink and the bar tender just looks at us and says, "Last Call". The bar closes in 40 minutes, so I thought that was rude and weird. At 1:50 am, 10 min before close, they kicked everyone out and threatened to pour out our drinks if we couldn't finish them in 30 seconds. I'm sure I'll be back seeing as the bar scene close to my house is dismal, but the C&G is nothing special with rude bartenders. If you have to go even a second out of your way to get here, it's not worth it.

Firstly, the pork wings are delicious... but aside from that, come here during the day when it's chill and the staff is good. However, if you're over the age of 22 don't come after 5pm. Service dramatically declines, and so does the crowd.

    (2)
  • Vincent P.

The kitchen screams mediocrity, but hey, it's a college bar! Would be great to see a better selection of brews, but then again, there is the Renegade just two doors down. Friendly staff more than make up for the lack of creativity happening kitchen-side!

  • Sarah B.

I don't understand all the negative reviews. I was in this place on a Friday night for a late dinner and felt that the service was very friendly, accommodating, and fast! I ordered the Philly, and it was one of the best I've had in Colorado. The televisions are well placed, showing all the right sporting events. C&G's is the epitome of a college bar--and yes, I did sense that I was older than about 50% of the guests. But unlike college bars that I used to frequent in my hey day, this place doesn't smell like stale beer and vomit. I'll be back for sure!

Thought this place was bad under the seemingly desperate previous owner(s). New management strategy for improvement seems to have been to fire everyone who has worked a bar job before. Been here many times, with low expectations, and somehow they maintain a downward trajectory in terms of both customer service and food quality. Last time: watched food come out and sit next to the bartender (1 of 2) as she rang out checks for (yes, literally) 5 minutes. This visit: I can see 4 employees from my vantage and nobody has tried to sell me a beer in 20 minutes. Oh but 2 servers did manage to come by as they asked every table in the dining room if they had ordered a basket of chips. Those chips got more attention in this place than our table. And to the owner: if you're going to hover awkwardly by the back booth, start managing. If you aren't going to, please hire a GM to do so.

  • J. Todd F.

I'm definitely a fan of C&G (Crimson and Gold). I'm there all the time to catch the latest sporting event, and have gotten to know the staff well. Lenny and the kitchen staff have done an excellent job making the food better, and the bar staff is great. As an older student, I do stay away from C&G on Thursday nights (as that seems to be a big party night for the undergrads), and after DU sporting events as it gets crowded quickly; but, it's a great little community bar!! Come on Tuesday nights for trivia, or just to hang out!!

Cool little college bar. Average service. BAD food! NOTHING special about anything we ate there. Tasted like a microwavable meal.

Amazing HOMEMADE food, friendly servers and bartenders and prime location especially if you are heading to a DU game. Bonus...cozy back porch,

Apparently I wrote a review a couple of years ago, but they've gone through changes since then. So my guy and I tried it out again. We thought it would be a great day to try their "$5 lunch specials," as advertised on the front page of their website. Our visit went like this. Server: Do you know what you want? Me: We were wondering what your lunch specials are. *pointed to menu where it said $5 daily/weekly lunch specials available* Server: Let me go check. (A minute later) The lunch specials are ___, ___, and ____. And oh, does the menu say $5? They're actually $11. Um, what? We scooted out after that because, um, that's a ridiculous discrepancy. We were also the only ones there in the noon hour, and I can see why.

  • Alex B.

The C&G, I usually find myself here because my girlfriend goes to DU for grad school. The beers are standard and so is the food. It's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just a college bar for...(wait for it).....yes, college students. I wouldn't necessarily make this a destination location to eat or grab a beer.

    (2)
  • Brian S.

Went here for lunch and before a DU hockey game. Took the fam, 2 kids. Food was very good, unique selctions and choices. Beer ice cold. One neat thing was my 3 yr old daughter wanted some chocolate milk and the kitchen did not have any, so they went and bought some at a nearby store. The manager came by and made sure we were happy. You do not see that much at a college bar. Cool place for better than average bar food!

    (4)
  • Riley C.

Overall, Crimson and Gold offers a great environment--mostly students out having a good time. The food is great too, but a bit pricey for the portions you get, especially the appetizers.

    (4)
  • Becca R.

I love this place. Seriously. They have great service, cheap and cold beer, and a HUGE patio! Also catch any of the games you want here or play some pool. Sometimes you just want a classic, cheap bar to drink at without having to deal with bad service or dirt. This place is it!

  • Tyler S.

Crimson & Gold is a middle of the road college bar for me. It is close to campus and offers a wide selection of drinks and food. This last time I stopped in, I ordered some martini with vodka, St. Germaine, and lavender, and was complimented by about three waitstaff and both bartenders that I was the first person to order the drink! Usually I just order a G&T or a beer on tap, but the summery potent martini sounded decent to me, and it was actually pretty tasty. For food, I ordered this ridiculous gut bomb of cheese and bacon topped tater tots! It was a new addition to their menu, and I am happy to have tried it out. It is by no means a health food option and was delicious in every way! If you are a student, definitely don't hesitate on checking out C&G. Parking could be a bit of a headache so keep that in mind when wanting to drive over here on a whim. (street parking in front or maybe the garage in the law school may be your best bets).

  • Emilee D.

Pros: Close to my house for the drunk stumble home, serves Strongbow Cider Cons: Full of DU students (in case the name didn't give it away), no servers, crappy DJ, loser Denver Cop checking IDs at the door who also thinks he's cool, kitchen closes early, and crappy salsa

    (2)
  • Aviva S.

New management = new C & G. This joint really stepped it up. Food has drastically improved as well as the service. New faces and a new attitude have done a lot for this place!

I would give this 2.5 stars if I could. Honestly, I feel like the hype is a little overblown. I'm a DU alum so I've been to all the bars around the area, and I have to say this place is actually pretty disappointing. For one thing, they seem to always have a DJ or some sort of live even that is wayyyyyyy too loud, to the point where you're yelling to your friend on the other side of the booth to have a conversation and you end up leaving the place hoarse. The bar service has been quite slow each time I've been in here, so if you wanna order a drink it's almost better to just sit down. That wouldn't be a problem ordinarily, but if you're a bar, you'd better have good bar service! The real strike and the thing keeping me from going back is pricing. Sure, they have specials for $1.50 Bud Light...but I think Bud Light tastes like piss, and if you're gonna set yourself up to be a nice bar, offer some real specials! A Guiness here will cost you $6 when you get one for $3 cheaper just up the street at The Pioneer. So I guess my bottom line is...if you're looking for a place to drink in the DU area, whether it's before a hockey game or whatever, you could do better at Jordan's or The Pioneer.

It took me until I graduated for me to actually go here. I will always see this spot as the shady hookah bar that was Pita Jungle! C&G has really cleaned the place up and made it a good spot for college students. My friend and I went here on a quiet Tuesday night and found out that is was karaoke night. The only two people singing karaoke were the guy who brought the equipment and his friend, and both took it very seriously. C&G gets three stars as the service was terrible. Our server was very clearly drunk and spilled our beers all over the table when she set them down. It was a bit of a mess. I prefer Jordan's down the street but C&G is an okay alternative, just be prepared for "interesting" karaoke on Tuesdays.

  • Will H.

Ho hum... Average, maybe it was the server, kinda jaded, but forced friendly.. the apps were Sysco or Shamrock foods frozen crap... Beer selection was atypical Nothing here that stands out. They could have a decent patio if they did something with it...but haven't Overall it looks cheaply done and has a 'frat boy hang out' vibe to it. Manager Dave? was the only bright spot, friendly and seemed earnest.

    (2)
  • Brooke B.

Service is always super slow!!! But it's hard not to go back for their food, love there burgers and sweet potato fries!! Good beer selection and great games always on!

  • Kristen P.

Been here a few times. Every time the service is slow and terrible. Last time I was there, we tried to get the female bartender's attention and she rolled her eyes at us and said she was too busy when in reality there was only about ten people in the entire bar. I will never go back; bad customer service is unacceptable in the restaurant business.

I haven't really explored too many of the DU bars, but found this one to be A-ok. here's why... positives: -located right next to campus. we were able to walk from the ice arena without having to search for parking...or lack thereof. -decently large venue. our group usually consists of 8 or more and the bar easily accommodates us all. -happy hour & daily specials are pretty good deals. sundays just happen to be wing day so for $.50 a wing, you can get as much or little as you want. -service is always decent. our waitress was slammed due to the world cup, but took great care of us :) negatives: -for being a college bar, it's pricier than most bars [$8 for a happy hour pitcher of bud light...um.]...well i guess it's in DU after all. other than that, we'll return :)

Crimson and Gold, named after the University of Denver school colors, bills itself as a college bar. However, there is one characteristic that separates C&G from most college bars in general... it's clean. Very clean. The floors aren't sticky or have nasty carpet you ignore, the bathrooms are normal (a big plus), and so far I haven't seen any drinks or food make a return trip in or around this place. Drinks prices are on par with most bars in town (i.e. a bit expensive), but the service is pretty good. The food, especially the burgers are worth the trip down if you aren't a DU student - especially when it is on deal. For DU students it is extremely convenient to campus, and on the weekends there is always street parking close by. The staff and the clientele seem to be very friendly, and the DJ on the weekends makes you feel at least five years younger than you are...

Not a bad college bar -- in fact, I would have loved this place if it was around while i was in school. Lots of TV's to watch sports and room to sit down and shoot the shit with friends. Didn't try the food, but I have a feeling that's not why people go to this place -- not saying the food isn't good, but all I saw were brews, bros, brunettes (some blonds), and cocktails.

Went yesterday for late lunch. We have been before, but it's been at least six months since our last visit. Mainly because they have a sewer gas problem that makes the entire place smell like an out house. We know why they are having the problem and informed the manager over the summer. We didn't even stay and eat that visit because of the horrible smell. He didn't seem to care and just blew us off. I gave in and agreed to go yesterday, because the smell has to do with the AC and that wouldn't have been running during the snow storm so felt it would be ok to go since my husband has always liked their burgers. The smell is still a problem, even the manager and waitress agreed it has been a problem. They are trying to cover up the smell problem with air freshener, which is really gross to smell while you are eating. Smelled like a bathroom. My husband talked to the mgr again, to give him some advice on the problem. This manager was appreciative of the help & said they are trying to fix the problem. Back to the food and service.... Was glad to see some of the prices changed and you now get fries with the burgers. The food was good, however the service is always poor. Always way to lax. I get it's mostly a college bar serving beer and burgers but you still need to provide professional service. The girl even walked up to our table still chewing her food and had the nerve to ck on us mid bite. Gross!! Said they were under new management, but I still haven't seen a big change for the better.

I feel like they should lose a star or having so many fake Yelpers write reviews....but I won't be that mean. I'll judge them solely on their restaurantical merits. I dropped in with The Cousin before a recent DU Hockey game. Given its proximity to Magness Arena and another bar that is the tradition to go to before the game, we figured C&G was a no brainer. A new place, it needs checking out. I got there earlier than he did, and had time to soak up the decor. It's a pretty decent interior. Fairly average, but has good space, plenty of exposed brick and a long, well-arranged bar. The server approached, and said hi and brought a menu and all that fun stuff. it's rare for a server to ask the patrons name and actually act friendly, but Annalise (sp?) did & was quite cool. Cute too.... but I digress. She also remembered the names of both Me and The Cousin and used them regularly. Some people don't like that, but I do. She was quick with service, friendly, knew the menu well, and generally a pretty good server. Food prices were average for a pub, but they did have a seemingly great special for HH, $5 BYO (that's build, not bring) burgers. I wasn't terribly hungry, so didn't partake, but it seemed a pretty good deal that I'll most likely check out sometime in the near future if I happen to be in that part of town again. Overall it seemed like a decent joint. I'm eager to try the food so I can let everyone know (you know, for real, instead of a fake review.) It seemed reasonably average, hence the three stars instead of more, but it definitely wasn't a bad stop, and I definitely recommend stopping by when you're in the neighborhood.

How about a real review amongst an array of phonie 501's! It's always nice to have more options for happy hour around work and the DU campus. Crimson and Gold does an adequate job on presenting themselves to be a Pioneer's bar, however, I imagine their work isn't done completely. With a few images of DU sports teams decorating the walls, the furnishings are still rather bare. Acting to be a sports bar, they could also use a few more flat screen TVs. Multiple areas of the bar are absent of a viewing screen leaving some sports enthusiasts either searching for a new seat, or staring at a blank wall. Having just opened, one would assume that they would be rocking a pretty decent happy hour to bring in the masses, however, the hh was a bit lacking in my opinion. Running 3-6 daily, they offer $3 wells, typical, and $2 Coors and PBRs as the only happy hour beer selections. I personally find $2 to be a bit much for both Coors and PBR. Don't most places offer $1 PBRs now a days? Either way, our group took them up on a few of the wells and opted to pay full price for a few better quality beers. The food selection is a bit confined and consists of primarily burgers. Their food happy hour special involved only a $5 build your own burger. The burgers turned out to be no more than adequate, and certainly nothing we would go back for. The highlight of C&G was our server, who was consistently checking in, refilling drinks, and insisted on breaking up the tab between the 9 of us as if it was no problem. Overall, despite being open for a little over a week, they proved themselves to have potential. I can see them being a great bar to check out the Pioneers once hockey season rolls around.

Unfortunately the food is mediocre, not consistent and the service is horrible. I've been several times hoping this neighborhood spot would get better. Can't wait for new owners! Stay away.

2 years after graduating from DU it's nice to have more options when I head back around the area with my friends. First and foremost the space is huge. I mean there's lost of room for everyone which is nice. The atmosphere is nice, somewhere you wouldn't mind taking your parents too. Drinks are cheap...well for HH After they are still reasonable. The menu is pretty small and easy things to cook, nothing too crazy or special. I'd rather just drink here and relax and eat the food. I tired to green chili. Wow...major mistake. It was really watery and tasted like ummm...a bowl of ingredients. I think if it sat longer to cook it would have been a tad more manageable. Finally the service. We sat at the bar and when we came it there was literally no one there. The two ladies were great, really attentive. As it got to about 5ish, the crowd started to come in the 2 dudes were behind the bar. Not bad or mean, but just not as attentive as the ladies before.

I really enjoyed this bar. The nachos were amazing. I really liked the pickle chips as well. Our server, Steph, was wonderful. I could tell she was very busy, and the only server working (that I saw anyway) however, she was prompt with our drinks and food, and very friendly. I will definitely return.

  • Angela A.

Nice place to stop in and have a beer if you are just in the area and want to meet with your girlfriend, which is exactly what we did. Parking is tough, I will say that. Our service was a bit slow even at a pretty empty bar. There are a few patio seats out front we took advantage of. We each had a taco from the happy hour menu. They were 2 bucks and pretty good for that. And they kindly fed me a black bean taco with some sauteed peppers and onions because I there were no veg options to choose from. I'd go back again, if my friend ever calls me up and wants to meet on a minutes notice.

#607 I've only been here once since I moved to Denver three weeks ago, but I can see myself popping in often enough. It's a mere two minutes' walk from my apartment and law school students know how to drink. Not to mention, student organizations seem to really love the happy hour deals here. Aside from all of that, I can't say that C&G blows me away in any regard. Instead, it's simply a great place to drop by and grab a drink from time to time. Without happy hour though, the drinks tend toward the more expensive side, so I would stick to a round here and maybe hop over to somewhere else cheaper afterward. Or, of course, you could do the opposite and load up on drinks somewhere else and come back here to enjoy its spaciousness and outside patio. All in all, A-OK sounds right to me.

We ordered mac n cheese which was okay, but we also got sweet potatoe fries...I DON'T reccomend that. They were dry and overcooked. The only thing good about this place is Wednesday night trivia, and when you're there don't expect good service if you're a college-aged person. Our server was probably the rudest one I've ever had. Example: we spilt water on our table and floor, she mopped up the floor water and left the table mess there for us to deal with. That was only the start. This place also has super expensive drinks. IN A NUTSHELL: service was awful, food was awful, drink prices were awful.

Really is an alright bar. Pretty good ambiance. Plenty of TVs. Decent tap. The food isn't stellar, yet it surely isn't bad. The staff is where this bar struggles. They aren't always on point and make plenty of mistakes. All in all, it is a decent college bar.

Decent food and good drink specials for college students. A must for those taking classes at DU. Otherwise, not a place you would go out of your way for.

This place has great specials like a bimonthly pig roast (IE. free swine n' dine), Sunday wing specials, decent happy hour... Service is spotty and follows the basic rule of whom ever tips the most, soonest gets their drinks/food first. Having a lame rent-a-cop to give face-time and check IDs of patrons totally harshes my mellow. The place has been spotless at the times I have visited and the tasty food offerings are prepared to spec.. putting away fears of food born illness of their kitchen offerings. Musical selections run the gamut and is often cooler than it sucks... With an small attitude adjustment and spit polish, this place could be really cool, it already has a perfect location for its cause.

Trivia Night? Yes Please! Good friends, friendly waitstaff, sweet potatoe fries, and wednesday trivia make for a great night at C&G

  • Homer S.

It's a basic bar. So why the high rating? Because it has a great location (between Asbury and Evans), is clean (particularly for a college area bar), and has plenty of space (had no problem getting a booth for a group of 7). Overall I'd definitely recommend this to any alumni who visits the University area and is interested in a post game drink or two. GO DU!!! Cheers.

  • Matt P.

This place has pretty good burgers, I'd say best burger south of Alameda. I've had the Boone twice and both times it came out cooked perfectly, the toppings actually stay in between the bun and the chipolte aioli has quite a kick. Good shoestring sweet potato fries. Its basically a burger bar, I wish they had a bigger menu. $4 Molson Canadian tallboys! Parking sucks in that whole area.

Walked into the Crimson & Gold on their first day and the burgers and fries where very tasty, but it took 1 1/2 hours to get through lunch! Went a second time, burgers and fries still tasty and the food service was better! Yahoo. I think that this place has a chance of making it in the DU community. Only bad thing, no parking.

  • Tonya F.

Fantastic new bar and local hangout near DU! The menu is not your typical bar food- since the chef has Del Frisco on his resume...the apps such as wings, homemade chips/fries and sweet potato fries are not only delicious but surely have some 'magical' ingredient- you can't stop eating them! The sandwiches are big portions and a good variety- from burgers to chicken; even 'chicken of the sea'! All very tasty with exceptionally delish sides piled on. Only sounds of cheering from patrons watching any given sports game on their multiple flat screens will remind you that you are in a 'bar atmosphere'- the food will make you (happily) think twice!

Considering we live so close (within walking distance), we come here often. The food is amazing and they make great drinks. The bartenders and staff are super friendly and attentive. It is a little pricey for a typical "college bar", but we love it!

For a touch of college, come to crimson and gold for a pitcher of beer or the mediterranean chicken sandwich. This place is poppin on the weekends with a college crew but any day before 11pm, it's a great place to catch a game with friends

First and foremost, I have to say, most Yelpers are idiots... I read every review on this place and it's hilarious to me that all these "3 star" reviewers think that because they watch the Food Network they are somehow qualified to slam this place. I graduated from DU in 07' and I would've given my left arm to have this place when I was in school. First, the location is perfect. Yes there is limited parking but the same is true for every other bar in the area... FYI You're on a college campus... People walk. this is the closest bar to hit up before a DU hockey or lacrosse game. Second, the decor is fine. It's simple, DU colors, and nothing drunk college kids can break or steal. Third, the menu is perfect for a bar. It's simple and well executed. It's mainly burgers, a few good apps and a few higher end offerings. For those of you who expect a full menu in a sports bar, go to ESPN Zone where the food and service suck. Fourth, drinks. I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I read one reviewer complain about a $2 beer! GTFO of Denver sometime and try to find a Coors Light for less than $5... God forbid any of these reviewers make it to NY or LA where a glass of anything is $10. The drinks are priced the same as the Border, Stadium an Campus in and the pours are better at C&G. Fifth, and most importantly, this place is CLEAN. Anyone who has been to any of the aforementioned bars knows they smell like puke and sour beer... And the bathrooms are disgusting. C&G gets major bonus points here. Sixth, and lastly, this place crushes the competition. Like I said before, best location, good cheap eats, cheap drinks... And BY FAR the best service. For a DU sports bar, 5 Stars easy. The best you'll find. For those of you looking for James Beard award winning food for $6, in a college bar, with $1 beers... Show us all how it's done and open your own place.

Food is typical. Service is detestable. Had to walk up to the bar several times to get our drinks refilled (waitress was watching Son's of Anarchy and giggling with the other waitress-all freakin' night!). When my friend brought to her attention that the beer he ordered was taken on happy hour (nicely) she made some adjustments at the register and nonchalantly dropped the tab off again saying something about incorrect price was charged originally and walked off in a rush. The tab was $15.00 more!!! ??? Lame

You can purchase a wrist band here for $10 USD which will allow you to get all you can drink well drinks and domestics. This reviewer can attest to the fact that you can easily become inhebrieated.

Considering all the wonderful things that this space could have been, the fact that it ended up like this is soooo sad. Sure, I know this is a DU place, but for the love of all that is decent, couldn't they serve more craft beer? This is COLORADO, after all. And when we asked the server about it, she mentioned oh yeah, well, I think we're getting F(l)at Tire soon. Great. Get a microbrew and it's the worst one made in the state. it's pretty obvious this is Coors country and too bad, since the space is great! I don't care if it costs $2, it's carbonated yellow water and I wouldn't pay .50 for it. Nice bar space, lots of room. Food is okay, but certainly nothing to rave about. If your tastes run in the pedestrian direction for both beer and food, or if you're a student who's #1 goal in life is to get drunk for $10, you'll love Crimson & Gold.

The first time I went to the Crimson and Gold, it was the week after finals and the place was packed. Great music, great vibe, dancing up on the upper level area... perfect college scene. That being said, when my out-of-town friend said she wanted something classier than On the Border but close enough to walk to, I immediately suggested the C&G. What. A. Bummer. First, the pros: The bartenders were efficient and friendly, and got us our drinks and checks in no time. We could also have a conversation, which was a bonus. The cons: I was really surprised by a $4.25 Blue Moon. I mean, really? It's made in Golden. It's not like it's an "import" beer. On the other hand, $4.25 is pretty reasonable for a mixed drink. I'm just surprised they didn't have ANY drink specials... this is a college area, you know. There wasn't any toilet paper ANYWHERE in the women's bathroom when I went. Anywhere. In either stall. Ummm.... luckily it was replaced when I checked an hour later, but that was really strange. The music! I'm a fan of old school 90s just as much as anyone, but in the 2 hours my friend and I were there, they played "Push it", some MC Hammer song, and the "Tonto jump on it" song each TWICE. Twice?? In 2 hours? Is your DJ MIA? Finally, it never got crowded or hoppin', which was a huge let down. I wouldn't have minded better music and not being able to hold a conversation if by 12:30 am, the bar was packed and people were dancing. But the bar stayed only about 1/4th full the entire night, and no one was trying to play any good music or start a dance party. I was really disappointed in the C&G. I guess it is more fun after finals, when everyone can relax, but I definitely expected more.

Time for another 3.5 star review! I go by this place all the time whenever I go to the DU campus, and when I've been in there I've enjoyed it. Something to note: they seem to do 90% of their business on game nights, so if you want that crowded sports bar feel, go before or after a DU game. If you just want to go to a place that has plenty of TVs and decent food and beer, come on a random other night. Parking is tough because it's right on University Boulevard near the Ritchie Center, so be aware of that. The menu is fairly small, featuring the usual burgers and nachos, and the beer list isn't huge but covers the basics. Prices are what you'd expect for a sports bar. I like the feel of the place, though when I stopped in after a hockey game, there was also a DJ set up, which made the place really unnecessarily loud. There were already more than enough people there to raise the volume without having random music going on, and honestly there were very few people paying attention to it, so I'd vote that they skip that and stick to being a sports bar. They've got a lot of good things going here, so just focus on those and it will work.
