I got a BYO Sundae, and it took me quite a while to pick 2 toppings because they had so many good choices! They only have two kinds of custard, chocolate or vanilla, which is all you need :) If you like frozen custard, or have never tried it, go to Cloud 9! Warning: very limited parking, but I went on a Thursday at 6, so it was no problem.

Who knew custard could be so delicious! As a huge lover of ice cream/froyo/gelato I had to give this a try, yet I didn't expect this to be so tasty. They may only have two flavors, vanilla and chocolate, but the vanilla was soo flavorful that nothing else was needed. They have tons of toppings to pick from. I went ahead and ordered a "sundae" which meant I could add two toppings. I was excited to see they carried toasted coconut and added that plus some M&M's to satisfy my chocolate craving. The custard was delicious and the best part about this place was the super nice employee (owner?) who attended to me. Will def be back!

This place is more than amazing. This custard is absolutely the best custard I have ever eaten. They only have two flavors, but they do them extraordinarily well. The vanilla was so good that it didn't need toppings. That's never happened to me before!! The owners are very humble and kind. I will be back.

Very quality and classic frozen custard experience. You know the place is authentic when they only serve chocolate and vanilla. However, that doesn't mean there isn't variety at Cloud 9. They have sundaes and toppings up the wazoo. I prefer classic and just went with chocolate and vanilla on a cone. What keeps this from a five star review? Many small ice chunks throughout made the custard less than smooth. I'm comparing this to Original Frozen Custard in Lafayette, IN, which is the taste of my childhood. Yes, a frozen custard snob here. That said, Cloud 9 will satisfy my craving locally.

I've always associated frozen custard with the obnoxious fast food commercials. Little did I know that frozen custard is a culinary delight that I've been ignorant to. My co-worker and I came here to test out the product to see if it would pass muster to give out gift cards to our customers. Hoy boy, did this meet all of our criteria. Friendly customer service - check. Delicious frozen treat - check. Local small owner feel - check. You have two options - chocolate or vanilla. From there you have toppings and combinations galore. I opted for peppermint patties and my co-worker went for snickers. They don't skimp on the toppings that's for sure. In fact, we had pretty healthy scoops of custard too.

The custard was so smooth and creamy absolutely delicious. The owners are super sweet and gave us two cherries since we were sharing. I love that they sell lactaid along with their custard since I'm a lactose intolerant person. Tons of toppings selection to choose from and butterscotch marshmallow cream and caramel. So yummy!!!!!!

Very nice local shop with great ice cream and friendly service. Not a huge set of flavors but they offset that with a variety of mix-ins and toppings. This strip of 8th is about to undergo a lot of changes with many new apartments opening.

I've enjoyed my infrequent experiences here ever since they opened and I lived two blocks away. It's simple - vanilla. A good price for a cup. My allergies barely kicks in. And it makes my custard snob fi happy.

My hubby and I found Cloud 9 on accident and keep going back! They have plenty of toppings and options, and their Chocolate is the best! I tell everyone I can about Cloud 9 because they are just so much fun, and wonderful friendly people. Great little spot that I hope to go to for years to come! *seriously... try the chocolate.

I finally made the time to visit Cloud 9 and I'm really sorry I hadn't made it in sooner! The place is pretty tiny and has only a couple of bar seats and two benches, one inside and one outside. But it's super cute and the owners are friendly. Chocolate and vanilla are the only flavors available but you can fancy them up with a large selection of toppings or turn your scoops into a sundae. All the usual cone varieties are offered, including one of my favorites, waffle bowls. I decided to keep it simple and opted for a small scoop of half chocolate and half vanilla in a cup. If I remember correctly, the price was $3.35 for a pretty big portion. The custard has such a wonderful creamy, velvety texture. The vanilla tastes so pure and the chocolate has a unique flavor I couldn't quite place. Maybe a hint of cinnamon? I think the shop is closed during the winter months so you'll have make it in before the snow starts to fly. Also, don't forget your cash because that's the only way you'll get any custard. Plastic not accepted. Congratulations to Cloud 9 on your ten year anniversary and here's to ten more!

If you've ever had frozen custard you know why you must come here. If you've never had frozen custard you must come here to find out why you must come here. Excellent date night idea !! Excellent "I'm lonely and want dessert" idea !! Excellent place to take your mom.

  • William M.

Adorable mom &a pop shop! Lots of flavors to choose from. Custard is borderline exquisite. The place is very cute, very good, and worth every penny!

  • Melissa C.

Absolutely the best custard!! Can't wait to come back and have the Choco. So many great menu options. Given this is my first frozen custard experience I am a believer.

Sweetest couple with the best sweet place in town!! Love their custard and their hospitality!

  • Elizabeth K.

Wonderful little spot!! Delicious custards and options. Had one of their ice cream sandwiches, was really good and rich. Great customer service, family/local business. Small space so not really any room to eat there, better to take to go. Wish it has better hours; often is closed already when I want to go. Wish it was open till at least 9 on week nights! Would definitely recommend and will be back:) NOTE: it is cash only!!

This is an adorable neighborhood custard joint that seems to be doin it all right. Heads up CASH ONLY. All sorts of sundaes and options to choose from and a selection of fancy high end bottled sodas. We tried Yertle's delight with caramel, hot fudge, and toffee candy covered pecans! Great combo. Nothing better on a warm day than some cool custard!

  • Lisa Y.

Cute little shop owned by a warm and friendly couple. Just a word of warning, there are only TWO flavors- chocolate and vanilla. Also, during the winter months they close up shop and fly south for the winter! Ok, maybe they don't fly south, but they tend to take a vacay during the colder parts of winter. They offer a variety of candies, cookies, sauce and syrups to mix in, but why ruin a good thing?? The chocolate and vanilla are delish on their own! The first time I tried this place, I was torn between getting the chocolate or vanilla. The owner suggested half a scoop of chocolate and half a scoop of vanilla. Their half scoops are practically a regular size scoop so it's like getting two scoops for the price of one! I've been hooked on this combo ever since! The favor, consistency and texture are always amazing! I'm in Denver every few months and I always make sure to patronize Cloud 9!

Smooth and creamy frozen custard. This is an old school shop with only 2 flavors. Chocolate and vanilla. The vanilla is really good. They also had a sorbet flavor (watermelon) which was decent. They make up for the lack of flavors with a bunch of topping choices. They also make sundaes to spice up your custard. The shop itself is in the middle of nowhere on construction ridden 8th Avenue next to a Subway. They have minimal space inside (a few chairs along a countertop) and a really old tv hanging from the wall. The outdoors area or parking lot however has a few benches. You can sit by your car and enjoy some old fashioned custard. There are also a few wire benches along the side of the store which are a little unsteady and a dog bowl full of water for your pooch.

  • Haley H.

Delicious, creamy-as-it gets custard in a low-key atmosphere. Not a zoo like some of the more trendy ice cream shops in Denver. Owners are extremely friendly and take pride in what they do. My new favorite frozen treat spot!

  • Steph G.

Decided to take a short walk over to Cloud 9 for some ice cream...It's a small little place and owned by a sweet older couple. So it's not really ice cream, it's custard. I love me some custard because it's really smooth and really creamy. Kind of a different mouthfeel than ice cream. They have a menu of sundaes, toppings, and sauces to choose from. I got a vanilla with hot fudge and caramel. My love got a double scoop of chocolate and vanilla, topped with hot fudge and almonds. Yum, it really hit the spot. We sat outside of the shop in the window devouring our frozen treats. I also swept up a Cloud 9 card, so if you get 10 servings of ice cream, you get a free cone! Since it's locally-owned and within walking distance for me, I think I'll be frequenting this place often. Glad to have found this charming little custard shop.

Cloud Nine gets as close to Wisconsin custard as just about anything!!! The owners are terrific and the custard so delicious!

Pretty decent custard, but who cares so does Good Times. The owners of this place need to READ THE BOOK on customer service. End of story

  • David T.

Well, after a couple of years trying to sample their wares but always finding them closed I nailed it today. Believe all the rave reviews this frozen custard is the real deal. True they only have vanilla and chocolate but they have about a zillion different toppings for the topping inclined. I am purest though - give me a cup full of frozen custard and a spoon and I'm a happy boy. Creamy, smooth, unctuous, heaven in a cup. Place is cute, prices reasonable, owners delightful, and a nice break from the wallet unfriendly gourmet ice cream shops. If you find yourself in the neighborhood you should give them a try. I am already envisioning combining a trip to Trader Joe's, if it ever gets built, with a trip to Cloud Nine.

  • Chad N.

This place is a must! My wife and I have become regulars (unfortunately for my waist size). There is noting "healthy" about custard, but in my mind if you're getting desert, get desert. Cloud 9 is great. I generally get vanilla with a topping mixed in, but the the Polar Eclipse is also great. The owners couldn't be nicer and are always there working. A fun small business to support! Note - this isn't your everyday ice cream or frozen yogurt place. (Which is a plus in my mind) but worth knowing before you go. Also, its CASH ONLY!

Finally a 5 star joint in Denver! I knew it was going to be a good one as soon as I saw my first People Love us on Yelp decal in the window. We walked in and were greeted with such a warm friendly welcome. We were not bothered on bit as we took forever to decide on what we wanted. When we had questions they were answered and then we were let be again to decide. Only serving two frozen custard flavors is probably the best idea ever. Chocolate and Vanilla simply delicious and super straight forward. Their set sundae menu was filled with incredible creations and their build your own toppings selection made the possibilities endless. We went for the HomeRun Peanut Sundae in a waffle bowl with both vanilla and chocolate custard. Our perfect custard was topped with butterscotch sauce, chocolate syrup, peanuts and a cherry. Two cherries actually as there was two of us sharing it. They hooked me for the next 5 weeks right there. Our HomeRun Peanut Sunday really was a homerun. I can not wait to go back to try other creations. The inside is small so there is not a lot of space to enjoy your frozen custard there. One window counter with 3 chairs and a bench seat against the other wall. There is a small parking lot with designated Cloud 9 spaces. They take both card and cash and if you pay cash you get a 5% discount. Lactaid tablets are also available for purchase for 50 cents. That made me laugh. Don't forget to get a punch card! I hope to fill mine up over the next 4 weeks and enjoy a free one.

Super good and creamy custard... Not shy about giving you plenty of toppings either! We will definitely add this to the "favorites" list! - Heather.

Oh.Man. This place is GOOD! If you like/love custard (check and check), like lots of topping options (check), friendly people (check), good prices (check), cleanliness (check) then this is THE place to go. One word - concretes. Soooooo good - introduced my friend to them for the first time yesterday and she is hooked!! Beats a blizzard hands down. They are incredibly generous with their toppings too! They also had some custard cookie sandwiches that look amazing (and by amazing, I mean sandwiches the size of a baseball that were so tempting I literally had to go stand at the other end of the counter to keep myself from ripping the door off the freezer). And FYI - if you bring cash, they take 8% off your bill.

Everyone else has got it right. Cloud 9 has great custard and very friendly staff (couple). It's a small shop and if you didn't know it was there you'd probably miss it. The subway sandwich shop which it shares a parking lot with definitely has the brighter/bigger sign. Their custard is extremely creamy and smooth. Just really good custard! If you're in the mood for a sweet cold treat I'd have no problems recommending this place. Hell, even if you're not in the mood you'd probably be pretty happy.

  • Tiffany L.

The couple running this place is adorable. They ride motorcycles, and are as nice as can be. The custard is delicious. Every time I go there, the toppings/sundaes tempt me, but I've only gotten the chocolate custard in a cup...bc it's SO good that even though there are other options, that rich chocolaty goodness is just too tasty to trade for anything else.

    (5)
  • Michelle S.

Yum! I've driven by here a million times and something tonight made me stop in. I'm so glad I did! It was delicious! I love that it's a locally owned little place, the couple who owns it is great. Super friendly and you can just tell that they love what they do. I got a concrete mixer (or something like that) which resembled a blizzard. I grew up eating custard and while this doesn't exactly compare to the amazingness of that custard shop it was great. Next time I need a treat like this I know where to go!

The frozen custard is delicious, the shop is clean, the service is excellent, and the owners are friendly. I highly recommend Cloud 9. This place will be a stop for me every time I am in the Denver area.

Wonderful frozen custard! I had planned to get a Polar Eclipse but when I got there the plain old hot fudge sundae called out to me. Frankly this stuff would be just as decadent served plain in a cup. The custard was the perfect texture of smooth and thick and had the perfect rich vanilla custard flavor. This "mom and pop" place has something very special going on here and I plan to return. Perhaps the only thing they could do to improve is have more seating than the counter space inside. A couple of bistro tables would be nice. That said, I'm not sure how crowded it gets. If you haven't checked it out, it's definitely worth a visit. Oh and bring cash. They prefer it and provide a 5% discount when you use it.

  • Diana W.

So glad I found this place. It's a small custard shop near the VA hospital. You get two custard flavors of the day then add any mixing you want or have the custard in some sort of parfait or sundae or concrete or banana split. We ended up getting the vanilla custard with marshmallow creme, peanut butter cup, and oreo. Amazing. The custard was so thick, creamy, and cold that every bite was just enhanced by the toppings! The marshmallow creme added a subtle sweetness at the bottom of the sundae. So good. It's something different to enjoy in the summer heat. Ice-cream melts way too fast, froyo can be "too light" but custard is a great treat if you are craving something satisfyingly hearty.

  • Justin A.

Cloud 9 is a really good place with an incredibly friendly staff. It is always nice to support a local business versus going to Pink Berry or the like. Anyway, both the chocolate and vanilla custard flavors are delicious. Those are the only flavors they serve, though. However, that is not a bad thing as they both taste really good. Also, there is a plethora of mixins that you can choice from to make your perfect summer treat.

  • Cintya P.

Sometimes you just have a craving for some frozen custard on a blizzardy day in Denver. This place is truly a gem for that. I got a vanilla custard with hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts and a cherry in top. Ah,what a treat! The pricing was not bad either! Down right more tasty than your typical Baskin Robbins or Cold Stone. I wish I had some Cloud 9 over here in LA :O.

If you are looking for icecream, please stop reading this review and look elsewhere. Best custard I have ever had in Colorado. Let me start by saying I've been all around the east coast where I think its easy to argue is where the best custard when looking for true custard is a staple. Leaving the east coast, Im instantly a skeptic anytime someone claims they have real custard. Colorado? Yes, Cloud 9 is where you need to get true custard and indulge in it. The staff were really friendly, and personable. Stop by this spot when looking for a diamond in the ruff for the true custard lovers out there.

Always wanted to try this place, but they were closed for the winter season. When I found out that they were open again, I was stoked! The couple who owns it is super nice. When I asked about their sorbets, they came out with a list of all the different ones they will have soon. Super sweet people. A lot of toppings for their custard.

Great business! They are friendly, provide great customer service and have the most delicious frozen custard in town! YUM!

  • Erin J.

Hmmm, I don't get the 5 star reviews AT ALL. Sure, it was good. Was it the best I've ever had? Not a chance. Service was friendly enough but S-L-O-W as all get out. There was lots of tinkering about and taking their time to ask what we wanted to order. I was a little disappointed that there was only chocolate and vanilla. We ordered the Yertle Sundae and it was okay. I was hoping for regular pecans on it, not candy covered ones. In short - Cloud 9 is good. Not amazing, not out of this world, not cheap and certainly not 5 star worthy.

  • Jacquee P.

This is a cute little spot off of Colorado. And the frozen custard is delish! So good that the dentists from the old medical school would come out to eat it. WHOA! If a dentist is willing to get cavities for some golly good frozen custard, then it has to be worth it.

    (5)
  • Ava K.

This was my first time trying frozen custard. It was great. Like others had posted, there are only 2 flavors: vanilla & chocolate. I tried the Yertle sundae, which had hot fudge, hot caramel, pecans, and a cherry. It tasted really good. If you pay in cash, you get a 5% discount. The service was good. But, there wasn't much of an area to sit. I will definitely be going back here whenever I have a frozen custard craving :)

This is a very dangerous place to live around the corner from. We are ADDICTED to their creamy custard and will continue to ONLY go there when we get a sweet tooth to support the small business. If you're one to complain about them only having 2 flavors of ice cream, then I don't think you are getting what they are about. Simplicity and knowing how to perfect something while not making it too complicated with a hundred flavor choices. If you want crazy flavor choices, head on over to sweet action on broadway or little man in the highlands and stand there for 10 minutes with a look of panic in your eyes while trying to decide between 'green tea something something' and 'salted caramel chocolate cheesecake surprise'. And then enjoy eating the ice cream you finally chose while wishing you had picked the 'peanut butter banana chunk'. This never happens at cloud nine. I order the vanilla custard on a cone and its the same friggin mind blowing decadence every single time. If I'm feeling really special, I'll get a hot fudge sunday. And we always have quarts of each flavor (chocolate and vanilla) in our freezer. Worth every. Single. Penny.

  • Conor M.

Best frozen custard I've ever had. We're regulars. Steve & Anna are the nicest people and remember us by name. Always have a good visit when we're there. I love to get vanilla custard with gummy bears mixed in. Also, their "Sorbet of the day" during the summer is incredible. I'm trying to get them to tweet the flavor of the day so I can always be there when they're serving lemon!

  • Andrew W.

Having a want for ice cream, Cloud 9 filled my need and satisfaction. My girlfriend and I thought long and hard about what to order as their menu board has almost too many options. We settled on a couple Polar Eclipses. Both with chocolate frozen custard, mine mixed with brownies and hers mixed with Heath bar pieces. Yum, yum, yum. I have never really had a craving for frozen custard before, but when I do next, Cloud 9 is going to be there for me.

There's a reason I've been walking four blocks on solid ice in blistering February weather to eat something frozen--Cloud 9. Having just moved into the neighborhood, I think it's safe to say that I'm already addicted to this sweet, sweet gem of a shop. Frozen custard so good it's been compared to crack in our house, plus hot fudge I'd punch a kitten for. That good. Plus, they make a great cup of coffee from local Pablo's roast. Best thing ever: Hot Fudge Sundae. Eat it.

I was introduced to this fine establishment while on an outing while I was at the veteran's hospital and i return every time I go back to the VA. The extensive menu has something for everyone. The friendly and helpful service make every visit a pleasure. i would recommend Cloud 9 Frozen custard to anyone who appreciates down home quality ice cream and a friendly accommodating atmosphere.

What a wonderful find! I am a true fan of frozen custard and am unable to get it in AZ. The shop is nicely done with good prices (take cash and you get an 8% discount!) and high standard of cleanliness. The people were fantastic and chatted with us about frozen custard places from my home town along with the origination of frozen custard. The custard itself is dense, flavorful, and delicious. While I am a sucker for ice cream it is nothing like my pure sense of devotion to good frozen custard. There were lots of mix in choices for the concretes and also suggestions for those more unfamiliar to the frozen custard sect. Overall a MUST TRY! I will be back when I come to Denver for sure!

    (4)
  • Ali F.

My husband & I both love this place. I do agree with the other Yelpers about the seating. On a hot day, I don't really like having to go sit in my hot car to eat the custard. But the custard is so good, we will keep going back for sure. Love it!

    (4)
  • Andrea M.

I've had a lot of frozen custard in my day, and this is the BEST you will find in Denver, HANDS DOWN! Good Times frozen custard is an abomination compared to Anna and Steve's magical creations. Anna and Steve run a meticulous shop, and make each creation with an artisan's touch. They take Visa, but cash is always appreciated, as more money can go in their pocket. I usually don't carry cash, but like to pay with it when I visit Cloud 9. Support local small business, and visit Anna and Steve! You will get super friendly service, and a high quality dessert that will have you coming back again and again.

Never even heard of frozen custard until a good friend of mine living in Colorado told me about it. Let me tell you, it's different from ice cream, different from frozen yogurt and it was so, so GOOD! There was only 2 flavors, vanilla and chocolate and the consistency was silky smooth and something I'll never forget. It's a very small place and sigh outside says "Stressed spelled backward, spells DESSERT!" Never realized that! Thank you, Cloud 9!

As a recent transplant to the East Side of town, I had to give this place a try. Short and sweet? It's gooood and totally reminds me of home (the midwest). I've only been twice now and have only had the vanilla custard, once with a chocolate/butterscotch/peanut sundae, and once with hot carmel and pecans. soooo good. The owners are super nice too!!! They have a punch card..buy 10 of something get a free cone. I'm almost halfway there already. They also have doggy-sized servings too and both my fur-kids loved the treat. The only negative is that it is a little pricey for custard.. although, i keep splurging on sundae's - their cones are probably much more reasonable. But it is quality and homemade and the service is fantastic. So it's totally worth the price. Just sayin'

This is the best custard place I have been to. No I have not been to Kopps frozen custard in Wisconsin, but I have tried custard places here in Colorado and Arizona. Cloud 9 out performs any of those places by miles! I am telling you I would take Cloud 9 over Culver's and Good Times any day. --anyone who thinks Good Times has great custard should be punched in the face! In addition to ueber-tasty custard, they have a huge assortment of add-ons that will make you happy. Create your own situations are awesome! And finally - this is locally owned and those two in there run the whole place on their own! They are great to talk to and you will get that neighborhood feel when you walk in and they are chatting it up with the locals. TRY IT! NO EXCUSES! TRY IT!

Cool authentic neighborhood place with custom sundaes on the chalkboard and seemingly long-time staff and regulars with character. Custard probably is not my favorite style as I like the lighter ice creams and froyo more but this is good custard. Since it's not quite my style of ice cream I probably won't be in a rush to return but if you want a rich decadent sundae from a cool neighborhood place this is for you.

Delicious frozen custard, with only two good-old-fashioned flavors- vanilla and chocolate. The custard is very rich, creamy, flavorful, and not overly sweetened. Much better than franchised operations such as Good Times. The owners are friendly and nice and they provide a discount if paying with cash. I first enjoyed their frozen custard in 2004 when I lived nearby, now I live in Lakewood, and still make the drive to enjoy the custard on occasion.

I love Cloud 9! They have great custard with tons of toppings to choose from, my most recent purchase (last night hehe) was vanilla custard with coconut, strawberries and caramel. They blend everything really nicely too.

  • Lisa O.

I won't argue that Cloud 9's custard is really really good. It is close to what I have eaten back in the polar North of the Midwest. But the lack of flavor choices made me shed a little tear as I ate the cool creamy goodness.

If you could only have one of the following, which one would it be: frozen yogurt, ice cream, gelato, or custard. That's one of the more difficult food-related hypotheticals out there. If you choose frozen custard, Cloud 9 should be your destination. An abundance of toppings met with simply great custard is about all you need to know. Friendly staff, too.

  • Adam A.

The vanilla frozen custard is a freaking good! Their waffle cones are yummy too, but oh that vanilla custard. The owners are sweet as can be and the place is a pleasure to walk into. Very happy to have them in my new neighborhood.

  • Christine Z.

This little place is soooooooo good. My favorite is vanilla frozen custard with just a little caramel and just a few pralines. Oh man it is good. The owners are so nice. I've had frozen custard other places but others taste like cool whip...too much air. They told me once that if a place serves custard from a similar Dairy Queen machine, it puts too much air in it. They have the true authentic custard machine that you have to hand dip. It is out of this world...as a matter of fact...it is on Cloud 9.

As always the custard is great and if you're not sure about what to get for dinner, just have desert. Ask for the Apple Caramel Surprise. No it's not on the menu. :)

  • Farrah L.

Go just because the owners are the sweetest, nicest people ever and the only people that work there. It's feels good to support a locally-owned and operated business that also makes fantastic frozen custard that will kick Good Times' butt any day of the week. My fave is Yertle's Turtle with these huge, to die for praline pecans in it. Yummmmmm....

Best Custard I have had in Denver. Easily tops Good Times and the others in the area. I rank it up there with Anderson's (Buffalo, NY) and East Coast Custard (Cleveland, OH)

Recently moved into the neighborhood and wandered into this place on a lark. At first I was disappointed that there were only two flavors: vanilla and chocolate. However, they had pretty much every topping under the sun (and quality stuff!), and turns out the custard is so amazingly good, even plain vanilla is outstanding. Love this place!
