I love this place! The beef Patties are awesome and yes they can jerk up a chicken. I have taken many of my family members here from Trinidad and Grenada and they always says its the only place they would ever come back to, after facing a cold Colorado winter...The best and only Caribbean place in Denver! And my whole family can vouch for em!

Where else can you get a little taste of the islands this close to home? Right on East Colfax is this gem hiding right in the open. I can't believe that it has been off my radar for so many years, but thanks to yelp, now it's all irie!

I love the Caribbean Bakery, or whatever its really called... Its not just a bakery, Lance will make you a whole mess of things that may or may not actually be on the rinky-dink laminate that makes due for a menu. Just go in, open sign or not... and talk to Lance. It will take an hour and a half, but you will come out full of something delicious, you will have a great story, a new friend, and a new favorite place to go in East Colfax.

I was sitting at my desk. It was 2:34 AM. Stomach empty, I started to crave a dish I ate quite frequently in my childhood. I rushed to open google.com and typed in "J A M A I C A N B E E F P A T T Y." To my disappointment, no results found near Denver, CO. For the next few months, I was on a mission. A mission to somehow obtain a steady stream of Jamaican beef patties. The first thing I did was look at the cost to ship the patties here from NY. The cost ended up being something like $4 per patty. It was a cost I was willing to taste..I mean take. I ended up trying to make my own. However, I knew it wouldn't be the same without the scotch bonnet peppers that gives the beef filling the kick. Luckily, I was able to go up to Manhattan in January. I spent 3 days, with no success to find the patties. The closest I got, after numerous "out of stocks" from the food carts, was a beef pie from some Aussie nook called "Tuck Stop." I came back to Denver defeated. I would never get to eat a beef patty as long as I was here. Then came May. I was back in Manhattan but this time, I did more research. GOLDEN KRUST. Hallelujah. I ate close to 10 beef patties in the few short days I was there. But then I was back. Beef patties a distant memory. --THE REVIEW OF CARIBBEAN BAKERY STARTS HERE-- After hearing about this place on Yelp, I was on a mission to find this elusive bakery. The first time I tried looking for it, I couldn't find it. I ended up eating at some ice cream shop. Yesterday, I was absolutely determined to find this place. (It's right across the street from Rock Bar) I ended up finding it and when I went in, it felt like home. The owner welcomed my friend and me and asked what he could get us. We ended up getting 4 beef patties, jerk chicken, and 2 DG Jamaican soda! The first two beef patties were a little dry but they were very tasty. The crust had a kind of cinnamon taste to it which was very good. The jerk chicken was also good. Not as tasty as the beef patties but still good. Next times, I think I'll just get 3 beef patties and a soda. Awesome, awesome place. The owner is really nice and friendly, the food and atmosphere is great.

Yay I love this place. During the times for the world cup, I would come here and watch soccer with the owner. He is such a nice guy and loves to chat. His roti is wonderful, all the homemade drinks he makes are super tasty, and everything else I have tried is great too. It is too good for Denver, but we are lucky enough to have it here and should be thankful and grateful. Seriously, take advantage of something that only really exists in New York or the Caribbean.

With gathering excitement for the new Scotch Pie shop opening up, I went back to eat a few of my other favorite savory hand pies available in the area. My first stop has always been the Caribbean Bakery. I love the beef patties. They are seasoned with clove, allspice, black pepper, white pepper, and a little curry powder. The pastry holding this delish filling is the flakiest crust you can imagine. OK, honestly, once or twice they have been a touch dry from being in the hot case, but not so'd that you'd really mind. He also makes some of the butteriest pound cake I've ever had, and the Southern gentleman in me adores a good buttercake. I know you've wondered when driving by, so next time don't. Stop, go in, and enjoy!

One of my favorite spots in Denver, hands down. I love stopping by to pick up some patties (so delicious, especially the lentil patty!) and chat with the owner. Super friendly owner, amazing food, and I couldn't be a happier supporter of this place. Stop in and see why this long standing restaurant is one of the best spots in Denver.

The Goat Curry Roti was amazing... be prepared to wait, but the wait is worth it. I will be coming back soon. The owner is super nice, too.

I want to like this bakery but for now its 2.5 stars in my books due to this reasons... Arrived at this Bakery, slightly early say about 10:30hrs ish... was wondering if the Bakery is open to begin with... An elderly man, came to open the door in which I thought this bakery was closed at that time. Was here on Friday September 14th 2012 with N. From the display, it seems there arent anything to be sold, all look so pale, cold but I decide to order these : * Guava Sugar Candy Of Some Kind * Raisin "cookie" of somekind aka Raisin Rolls or Caribbean Currant Rolls While N decide to opt for somekind of Patties... From N's feedback, the Patties she purchased was A-OKAY. For the Guava Candy, I think I might have these when growing up. Similiar/Familiar taste to boot. I like this Guava Candy. As for the Raisin "cookie", too complex to describe about this Raisin Rolls aka Caribbean Currant Rolls. Not too sweet for my personal taste bud. It tasted like baked phyllo dough rolled with raisins or currants. Maybe I should call my fellow Caribbean Foodie friend/cook about this "cookie" aka "pastry" and perhaps from there can confirm the real name about this "cookie". Both of my loot cost say about $5. We wanted to order lunch or something but we decide to have Lunch some where else. Hmm, to return a maybe, unless I can get hold of that "someone".. *BIG HINT* to that Someone, you know who you are... then maybe we should get a UYE Lunch or UYE Dinner at Caribbean Bakery. @135/2012

My Caribbean friends & their plantains drove me to find a place as delicious as their home cooking. With the roti, the delicious curry, & the plantains that were perfection, I called my friends asking them why they had not introduced me to such good food! I can't wait to return & try more great combinations & tasty treats including the ginger beer:)

First time at a Caribean bakery, delicious treats and reasonable prices. I was pleasently suprised and will be back again to show my friends or for takeout!

I love coming here. I used to live in Trinidad, and haven't had roti since I left. We stopped by on a whim and once I saw he made roti (Saturdays only), we've been coming ever since. (think if roti as a curry burrito.) So take this review with a dash of chutney. I lived in Trinidad. I love this guy and I love my roti and it tastes just like it did when I lived there. Regardless, if you love curry, and love to try new things, stop in.

This is my favorite place to eat in Denver. A one-man operation, Lance does everything himself by hand with carefully chosen ingredients. His patties are out of this world and not greasy like in most of the places. His rotis are amazing, so are the sweets he makes, and he also makes his own drinks. If you want Caribbean food in Denver, this is the place to go. And he does not play the hipster game of advertising it but he does not cut corner. Old time recipes with natural ingredients. Go, and enjoy!

Ahh, I feel bad for the low rating, but I am a harsh critic when it comes to my beloved beef patties and jerk chicken. I love eating these foods because they bring me back to beautiful Jamaica where I embarked on the most outrageous flavor journey of my life. I have such fond memories of eating jerk chicken on the gorgeous beaches and eating beef patties with the locals. There is nothing I love more than deliciously spicy, flavorful jerk chicken and a warm, beefy, fresh beef patty. Sadly, Caribbean Bakery's jerk chicken was pathetic. The flavor was lacking dimension and spice. While you could definitely taste the Allspice, that is all you could taste. I didn't pick up on any Scotch Bonnets and did not even feel an ounce of heat that those delicious peppers usually create. This chicken was too bland to be referred to as 'jerk chicken.' There wasn't much chicken either. I was not impressed. Beef patties are one of my comfort foods. So, I was very excited to visit Caribbean Bakery after reading the reviews praising theirs. Unfortunately, I was displeased. While the beef had a nice flavor to it, there was just not much of it. They were extremely thin patties. Also, the pastry was very crumbly and not the right consistency. Maybe I got an old batch? I tried the chicken patties as well. They were gross. The chicken had a funky, unpleasant flavor. I would not recommend them. I have picked up better patties in the freezer section at Costco. Sadly, Caribbean Bakery didn't bring me on a mini-vacation to Jamaica with their food. I was underwhelmed with the food and won't be returning.

This is an interesting place that offers more than what appears. I woke up with a craving for foods that I remembered from Jamaica. Jerk chicken, rice and peas, fried plantains. Yelp brought me here. The modest sign out front reads Caribbean Bakery and Catering. I couldn't really tell if the place was open. I walked to the door and a man on the inside opened the door for me. It was about 11:15 am. Perhaps he was unlocking for the day? Or perhaps he tries to open the door any time he sees a customer. There's a small area to stand in front of a nearly-empty display case. To the right, there's a modest dining room with about five tables. He asked what I wanted and I told him a little bit of everything. He didn't show me a menu and I had no idea the price of anything. I got a beef pattie, jerk chicken, rice and peas, fried plantains. The beef pattie was quite good. Crispy, flaky fresh crust with a spicy meat filling. This one had more flavor than the ones I remembered. He seemed to be the only one back there and I was the only customer. The jerk chicken was good. It had decent flavor although not as fantastic as the memory in my head. The rice and peas evoked a similar reaction. All those years ago, they were never my absolute favorite, but grew on me over time. The fried plantains were amazing and even better than the my memories. The food is absolutely worth eating. But even more so, the service and friendliness of the owner make this a place worth coming back to.

People! No wonder I could not find this place. It was listed in Yelp as a bakery. Not searchable under Caribbean. It was not until a helpful Yelp Talk conversation that I found out about pretty much the only Caribbean Restaurant in town....what? Even so this place is not easy to see. Driving down Colfax I have made it a point to pop in, but have driven past it multiple times. Once there, you'll realize that this is more than a bakery. Yes, they have a deli style bakery case. but it is also a full seating restaurant with a daily menu. Anyway, probably some of the best Jamaican patties I've ever had. The curried goat was pretty good too. Lance the owner is extremely friendly. I would suggest calling ahead for him to prepare your dish to be ready when you arrive. ,,,,the ONLY Caribbean place in town....prove me wrong. Dave

Since the early 1990s (even the loquacious Trinidadian owner himself isn't sure of the exact date!) this tiny, seemingly nondescript spot at Colfax and Fillmore has been wowing the public with its flavorful goodies. Yes, yes, they have quite the range of baked goods spanning across "the islands", but I go there for the more savory stuff. I have tasted each of the five types of Jamaican-style pies known as Patties, and cannot decide on my favorite. Turkey? Lentil? Veggie? Hmm, Chicken. No, Beef. Well, darn, looks like I'll have to shove another one in my piehole. On my last visit I very much enjoyed the Ackee and Saltfish, which weds flaky, assertive fish with the soft, eggy vegetable (yes, you heard me) called Ackee. This latter item is usually available canned in the US, as it is well-nigh impossible to obtain fresh over here (for reasons I had probably better not get into). On Saturdays, you can also consume the stuffed Trinidadian/Guyanese flatbreads called Roti (based upon a bread originally from India) with a wide variety of fillings. If you really want to tickle the proprietor, ask him about "buss-up-shut"! Libations? Oh no, don't just have a plain old pop. Try Sorrel (no, not *that* sorrel - actually a hibiscus drink which will remind you a lot of Mexico's Jamaica (?!)). Or maybe a Sea Moss (the thick, milky-white beverage made from Carrageen, the seaweed known for restoring, um, [ahem] "vitality"). Perhaps a Mauby is more your speed. No, no, no - not the bald guy who has the pretty lady singer - this Mauby is the kissing-cousin to our root-beer. For an incredibly Irie time, head down Colfax until you reach Caribbean Bakery.

Patties and Roti are great, but there's much more. I know it's called a "bakery" but they have food and more than just the portable or sweet variety. For instance the oxtails and rice are just right. If I hadn't known any better I would've never known this place sold anything other than patties based on some of the reviews. Going to a Caribbean restaurant and only eating patties is like assuming the best that Mexican food has to offer are burritos. For shame! They have Jerk Chicken, Brown Stew Chicken and other things you probably love too (you may have to call ahead though). And they are good to go. So for the record Caribbean food fans, this is a real option not just a quick stop for snacks of the breaded variety. Stop in, holler at Lance, get some food, some real good food!

I was searching for some Jamaican Patties (chicken not beef) in Denver since it had been 2 year that I had not had any. In my research, I came surprisingly across the only place I could find that served Jamaican chicken patties; the Carribean Bakery. So I called this place up to see if they were even open on a sunny yet cold Sunday morning. I spoke to the owner Lance and he told me that he not only has patties but also curry goat, curry chicken, jerk chicken and many other items. This got me excited! So I drove down to his bakery located close to the infamous City Park (an urban park and neighborhood in Denver, Colorado). The place was tiny but well worth the trip for a couple of reasons; one being the owner was super nice and down to earth kind of guy and the other reason being the food was delicious. Lance prepared my order fresh for me while I watched him prepare it. I took my daughter with me and he offered us both fresh mango and ginger/coconut drops (sold on the streets in Jamaica). We talked about the Carribean islands and little did we know that 2 hours had gone by. Our favorite items were curry goat roti (roti had dal/lentils inside and was wrapped in a fair portion of goat, pumpkin, and potatoes). The jerk chicken with red beans and rice, green peas, corn and fried plantains was also very delicious. The homemade chicken patties were mouth watering. Overall, my trip down memory lane (the time when I lived in Jamaica), in conversation with Lance (a true islander), and the delicious freshly prepared food are all hard to find in the Western United States today.
