First of all, our service was pretty good. We were fortunate not to encounter the "owner experience" that you may have read about in the other reviews :D The atmosphere is pretty hipster which makes the owner's attitude even more surprising. In any case, we stopped by here to have some desert on a weekend. The deserts were good and are limited to what they have made for the day. Lots and lots of different teas to choose from, many italian sodas and teas are also available. We also saw others having sandwiches but for the price they looked pretty puny. I would come back here for some tea and dessert but probably not for lunch.

This is a charming little tea house and I came due to a special promotional coupon that I had. I didn't realize until I got to the front door that I would have to make reservations so I asked when I came in. There was no one else in the dining room so I asked if I could have a table. She agreed with some reluctance saying that due to the special so many had purchased the special offer. I felt a rather cool response from the owner but enjoyed the lunch with my friend and the great tea. The deserts were grand also. It is too bad our experience was tainted by one person's attitude but I would love to come back again. I also agreed to upgrade my tea pot to a large for an extra dollar but instead they charged me $5. Just little things to be mindful of that can make a big difference in return customers.

Great tea house with a wonderful, knowledgable and friendly owner. The food is really good, quite simple, but in my opinion, that helps you focus on the tea. I wouldn't recommend using this as a neighborhood coffee shop that you frequent to surf the net or write a paper, it is much more for enjoying an afternoon cuppa with a friend or two.

The concept of this restaurant is great. Unfortunately the attitude of the owner leaves a real bad taste in your mouth. The sandwiches are nice, not great. The side salad is disappointing. The tea is enjoyable as well as the desserts. But when there is not a friendly greeting to start the meal, it is all down hill from there. I wouldn't spend my extra cash where my business is not appreciated. Denver has way too many wonderful choices where they value and welcome your business.

found this cozy tea house by accident. nice place for a perfect cup of tea...planning on going back and meeting up with my gurly-gurlfriends. The egg-salad was divine on a brioche type bread that melted in my mouth.

I had lunch with a friend here today and was delighted to be in such a serene tea house on an otherwise busy block filled with furniture and antique stores. We shared two pots of tea, the Yun Wu organic with our sandwiches, and then afterward we had the Tangerine Green, which was perfect as "dessert". Both teas were delicious. The only thing that was a negative was when the waitress asked if we wanted our sandwiches grilled - I ordered the smoked salmon and marinated cucumber, and my friend had the curried tuna, and the idea of serving those warm struck us as outright heresy. So, be sure when you order a sandwich to specify that it not be grilled (unless it is the grilled cheese, which should be).

stopped by for afternoon tea on Monday, but they were closed. It looked cute but was disappointed to see very small tables very crowded together. Will try again on another visit. There are tones of antique stores around it.

I had tea here today with a friend and a stuffed animal. The tea was amazing, probably the best earl grey that I've had. The stuffed animal was a cross dressing bear, Bryan, who frequents the place. AMAZING.

So happy to have found this little gem. The girl at the counter was very sweet an informative, she definitely knows what she's talking about. I had a hot chai with some milk and a fantastic breakfast panini with red pepper. It was delicious! I couldn't help myself and also had a molasses cookie sandwich with lemon icing. Too tasty and everything was priced on the fair or low side for this type of brunchy nook. I also really enjoyed the atmosphere, so quiet with classical music playing. I will definitely be back to drink some more tea and read a book.

I have been searching for a place like this in Denver for a while. Nestled in Antique Row, Capital Tea is a locally owned, friendly and charming establishment. I have grown up drinking English Breakfast tea, and I am very particular about how it is served. It was served in a warm tea pot and the tea leaves were carefully removed after the perfect steep ensuring the tea would not become bitter after the first cup. The sandwich selection is classic - egg salad and curried tuna, both wonderful. I also had an almond shortbread, which was lovely. The atmosphere is also charming. I will certainly be back!

My friends and I have been on a mission to go to all the tea places in Denver. This one ranks in the top 3 so far. Though it doesn't appear to serve the traditional high tea, it does have a delicious assortment of sandwiches, salads, and pastries. They serve high quality, loose leaf teas, and the atmosphere is casual and relaxing. I liked that I was able to eat a tasty grilled turkey and avocado sandwich, side salad, 2 pastry items, and drink a large pot of tea for the same price as many high teas. My friends enjoyed having the option to eat less and pay less. They got the small pot of tea, a sandwich, and one pastry which came out to $16--a pretty good deal for a filling meal at a tea shop. All in all, the three of us really enjoyed the tea, food, desserts, and atmosphere.

A nice little tea shop tucked in amongst many furniture and antique shops on S. Broadway. There are 9 tables for seating plus 3 seats at the counter/bar and a few love seats for the layout. The ambience is warm with fairy lights overhead and a cool wood light fixture with different stones. They offer multiple types of tea drinks (hot or cold) along with sandwiches, soups and salads. They bake their desserts in house on a daily basis. I tried the Yunnan black tea and the egg salad sandwich made with lapsang tea. Locally owned and somewhere for all tea enthusiasts to try and buy from.

Capital Tea is the perfect place for a peaceful afternoon tea. My hubby and I sat here reading while classical music played on a Saturday afternoon. The decor is cozy but has a contemporary flare, and the lighting is natural coming from the two prominent front windows. They have an expansive selection of tea to choose from, of all varieties: black, green, herbal, mixed. The pastries looked delicious and very "food-y" with complex complementary flavors happening. The salad and sandwich were fresh and colorful. We bought a few ounces of tea to go!!

I don't know how this place is getting such a low rating. I went here after being in the area to look for a dress down the street. I love tea mostly just a nice black straight up. The front counter girl was SUPER sweet and seemed to know what's on the up and up about tea. They have organic teas which I believe some people prefer. It is a cute little space kinda reminds me of these little cafes in France where you can just sit and relax and drink tea, much more slow paced than a national known coffee/ tea places. I also had a chance to enjoy some lunch here just a sandwich which was good. A little steep for a sandwich but good. I will defiantly come back here for some good tea talk time.

Updating my Capital Tea review because I've been going here for over a year now. My experience has gotten better so I've been back many times. I patron Capital Tea monthly for my book club and the staff are always nice. Once I forgot to make a reservation and they managed to accommodate us. I'm glad they split our checks and don't make a fuss like other places I know. We always order tea and most of us also order sandwiches or salad. They sometimes have a special for the day, such as quiche, and that goes quickly. I like the tea selection and have drank all of their oolong and white teas. The place also has a variety of desserts like macaroons, cakes, and cookies. It's a great central location for those of us coming from all over Denver metro. It's funny that I start noticing regulars. Great place. I definitely recommend!

What a disappointment. A friend was visiting from abroad and wanted to meet at a place with a good tea selection. Great. I'm a serious tea drinker, was looking for food as well, and Capital Tea was conveniently located for both of us. We decided to give it a try. The place is pretty centrally located, though a little hard to find, tucked into all the storefronts on Broadway. Parking is metered, out front, and there were plenty of spaces. The space is cute and comfortable. I think there was music, but we were able to enjoy a nice conversation. We were a little confused at first, expecting full table service, and the girl at the counter didn't let us know we had to walk up to order. She just waited for us to approach and ask. I asked if one of the teas had chamomile, and she didn't know, (I am allergic to chamomile, a ragweed, so this is an important question for me), so my friend and I ended up sharing a pot of lavender Earl Grey. I ordered the Lapsang Souchong Egg Salad Sandwich, and my friend ordered two GF macaroons. The tea smelled great, but the taste was nothing special. The regular Early Grey I buy in bulk at Whole Foods is a better cup of tea. The egg salad was fine - the subtle scent of the Lapsang Souching was enjoyable, but didn't make the taste of the egg salad anything special. The white bread was good, but the egg salad itself was a bit dry, and it was SO skimpily portioned that it was almost laughable. The side salad was nice enough, but again skimpily portioned and dry, so I went up to the counter to ask for a side of dressing (and I usually like my salads on the drier side, folks). The cook's attitude, when she told me it would be a couple of minutes before either she or the counter girl could get to me (there were two other customers), was almost that of "putting me in [my] place". It was very bizarre. The side of dressing was also scant. You'd have thought I'd requested a free side of liquid gold or something. The macaroons were fine, nothing special. We had to go to the counter to request our check. The place doesn't accept AMEX and my friend didn't have any other form of payment, so I ended up spending something like $28 dollars on a dry egg salad sandwich, and pot of tea, and two cookies. If the food had been spectacular, ok, but aside from the macaroons, I could have done all of our meal better at home. I would perhaps go back here for a cuppa, but definitely not for food.

went in sunday 3-9-14 Very nice guy working the counter and a very nice girl took over for him later. Both very nice, friendly and chatted while we chose tea to try in the store then took some tea to go. Just tea this time but will be back to try food at some point due to the friendly staff.

On a recent trip to Denver for a hockey game and family dinner, we needed a place to hang out for an hour. I Googled tea shops and found Capital Tea on South Broadway. It's a very pleasant tea shop to meet friends. Kevin, Perry, and I sat on couches in the corner. A small table in front of the couches held a large tray filled with tea in sixteen ounce teapots, honey, cream, and baked goodies. I drank an excellent Peach Vanilla with peach pieces. It wasn't bitter and had a vanilla after flavor. Perry and Kevin enjoyed Earl Grey Windermere with a strong bouquet. Perry ate a tasty black currant lemon scone with rich lemon curd. Kevin and I had melt-in-your-mouth apricot bars covered with a lot of crunchy almonds. Lisa, the owner, gave us excellent, friendly service. It's marked for return visits to Denver!

I was in Denver visiting friends and had run out of tea (I drink a lot of it). I purposely went out in search of a great loose leaf tea place and stumbled across this one via Yelp when the first place was not open (and in a psychic bookstore w/ tons of incense). I was very impressed with the selection and price of the loose leaf teas. I bought 1/2 pound of Vanilla Coconut (have been looking for something like this for a year) and 2 oz of the Immortalitea and one other one that was really good but already consumed (can't remember the name). The prices are well below what I pay at the chains (Teavana and Lupica), and I was very happy with the quality. In addition to the pot of Vanilla Coconut, we were impressed with the food. We had a blackberry lemon scone that was unbelievably moist and had just the right crumble (i.e. butter to flour ratio). The nut caramel bar was so good that I had a hard time sharing. I was sad that we had a big breakfast and could not try more of their food. I loved the vibe (less teahouse more coffeebar feel), and the staff was extremely helpful. I am so sad that I live halfway across the country and cannot go more often!

It's extremely anti-coffee shop in all of the ways you'd expect. There is internet, but don't expect denizens of daytime to be there with their laptops surfing the web for gigs, because this isn't the place for that. It's an older crowd, mostly folks there to eat and drink with other people. I found that interesting, but admittedly felt a bit out of a place as a result. Nonethless, the staff are extremely courteous and you'll be well attended to. Their desserts and tea are top-notch too.

Nope. Didn't really like it. I had the same unhappy response when I tried to use my Living Social Deal without having made a reservation. The lady very rudely said "Uh, its printed right on the coupon" Yea, well when you access your coupon on your phone, it isnt right on the front. I get that I messed up but I didnt deserve to be treated like and idiot. I waited a few months before going back, until I was over my first experience. I took a friend and we ordered our tea, sandwich and desert. The sandwiches were nothing special. Kind of like one I would make at home. The tea was really good, but the desert treat was like something I would get out of a bag at a grocery store. I had the cupcake but didnt bother finishing it. Overall, just not a good experience and it seems I never really did get over how I was treated the first time. When I came back there was a big sign on the door saying that people who had the deal had to make reservations and the whole time I was there, most of the tables were empty.

I stopped in on a Sunday while antiquing with some friends. I had never been there before and wanted to look at the loose tea selection. The tea is way behind the counter up on high shelves so I asked to see the menu. Before I had a chance to look at it, the owner/manager was asking me what I wanted. I was looking for a Green-White tea blend. They looked at me like I had asked for something exotic, told me they didn't have anything like that and then asked me where I had had it before. I told them Daz Bog, which is a coffee house and they just dismissed me like I didn't know what I was talking about. I will never be back. I don't know if they were overwhelmed by the Gingerbread party that was going on, or if this is the type of service they give potential customers but I thought they were pretty rude. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

I went back a couple of days ago for lunch. I ordered the egg salad sandwich, a pot of tea...I think it was called Yunnan (?) and then finished up with a slice of chocolate cake with peppermint frosting. I could pretty much go back at least twice a week for that meal for the rest of my life. My son loves their curried tuna sandwich and wanted some of my cake, but I said no, so he ordered the cupcake version of my cake. I have been going here since it has opened and have never had any problems with unfriendly people, and I'm not sure what that's all about. I think this is a great little relaxing tea room for good food and...tea.

I love Capital Tea. The tea selection is amazing and the staff very knowledgeable about them. I've had lunch here three times and enjoyed it each time. It's a calming, friendly place to relax and recharge.
