Apple strudel is homemade and so good! They serve Coda coffee and Bhakti Chi.

I live about 30 miles away from this place yet still manage to stop by here whenever I'm near the downtown area. It's a refreshing break from the big corporate chains. Obviously a small family run shop. This place is always filled with the most friendly and interesting people. Staff and patrons. If you need to sit down with a computer and do some work, this simply isn't the place. It's too small. If you want to take a break from the computer and have a real conversation with nearly everyone in the place, this is the place!

Nice homely little cafe. Great prices. Coffee was decent and the spinach quiche was delicious. The owner has a no laptop policy to keep the place from becoming an office. The result is that there's always an open table. I recommend going here if you're in the neighborhood.

The prices here are awesome!! I couldn't believe a single espresso for $1.00. I will be back and very soon. It's a fun idea of no laptops you can tell it is a place to have a nice conversation and not work or surf online.

The other Yelpers covered most of it, but I will second the vote for the apple strudel! The pastries are my favorite, and the staff are friendly. We like the "no laptop" policy...it is their niche...I totally get it...they probably don't want people taking up their small seating area whilst on their computer for hours? Or is it that they would like to see people actually exchange pleasantries? I am all for this throwback communication. That is what we did...over marvelous pastries and iced tea.

I like Cafe Zuri. It's not my favorite, but it's definitely in my frequent rotation. Yes, there is a NO LAPTOP policy. This is of little consequence to me because I usually stop in while walking my dog, but it's something to keep in mind. Judging by other reviews, apparently some people get all bent out of shape about this rule. The way I see it is- there are literally hundreds of other coffee shops in Denver where you can use your computer, and if Cafe Zuri wants no laptops to be their niche, so be it. Anywho, moving on to the coffee aspect- decent variety of drinks that are reasonably priced, and they brew Coda coffee. There's always a selection of ice cream, pastries, and quiches available too. Some of the pastries (croissants, Danishes) are from a local company (don't know which one) and others are made in house. I believe they make the quiches from scratch too. I keep promising myself that I'm going to order a quiche when I go in but that's yet to actually happen, so all I can tell you is that they look amazing! There are usually several varieties available. Overall: this is a nice place to stop in for a to-go drink or meet someone for a cup of coffee. It's not a place to camp out with your laptop. As long as you keep that in mind, I think you will find that Cafe Zuri gets the job done.

Wonderful iced coffee for my husband & I. The service was extremely friendly and quick. We will visit again on our next trip to Denver!

The sign out front says "best coffee in town" but it simply isn't. It is much too acidic. Plus, what's with all the "no cell phone/no laptop" signs everywhere?! Just kinda annoying.

I really really like this place= 4 stars. Their pastries are unmatched by my standards at any coffee shop around, the coffee is good and the owners are personable. To be clear I have never brought in a laptop and gotten the scolding that other patrons have- I am in and out. Here's my interpretation: when you travel to other countries there are quirky things about restaurants that are either refreshing or annoying. Take that international coffee shop and put it smack dab in the Highlands which may work for some but not all. I really really like it and hope it stays around. So why not 5 stars? It is a bit pricey, I wouldn't (couldn't) go everyday as a latte and a pastry runs just under $10, but as a treat I'm glad It's here for now.

I was barely even in the door with my backpack and was rudely told by the guy behind the counter that " there are absolutely no laptops allowed" he then pointed at the "no laptops' sticker as if daring me to challenge him. There was not another person in the place on a Sunday morning, so the policy must not be helping business. I took my money to the place across the street who are very nice and welcoming. I will not be back.

I'm European and I love kaffee klatsch and a good coffee house. A delicious coffee, slice of cake, good conversation, in a nice atmosphere. I've lived in the Highlands for 16 years and support the small local shops. Unfortunately café Zuri is a huge disappointment. I came here with a friend to chat about life and work. Zuri serves the usual coffee drinks, small selection of baked goods, including small savory items. We bought coffees, Linzer torte, bottled water. It was mid-day and the place was nearly empty. We sat in the far back, out of the way. Coffee was ok. I liked the fact that Tomas, the owner had directed us to have our drinks in ceramic mugs instead of paper cups. Slice of cake was served simple. White plate, no whipped cream, no fork, no napkin. Silverware, milk, sugar, stir sticks are available in the self-serve counter, right next to the black clean up bin. Just like any other coffee house would be setup. The décor is simple. Five tables, with dining chairs. It would have served the purpose, though there are more comfy places around. Where it completely breaks down for me was what happened after 30 minutes. The place is still only serving one other lonely soul. During our conversation my friend takes out her laptop to take some notes. It was not a minute and the owner stands over us, telling us "please close your laptop". We are puzzled. He repeats "We have a no laptop policy". We explain it's just to take a few notes. He stands, points to the sticker on the table with the laptop crossed out and waits till we close it. We feel like 5 year olds and are flabbergasted. I understand that a small place like Zuri can't compete with Starbucks and Co. when people camp out for hours drinking one coffee. But we had contributed ok revenue and were still drinking our coffees, talking, jotting down some notes. We were not writing a term paper or surfing the web for hours. There were no other customers waiting to be seated! I want small, local, shops to succeed in our 'hood. Tomas, I hope you read these lines and re-think how you run your coffee place. A little Fingerspitzengefühl goes a long way. Good luck!

Great latte, friendly owners. Not a whole lot of room to sit and enjoy, but still an awesome little coffee shop. Can't wait to try their quiche next time!

If we want to have a good day my husband and I always stop into Cafe Zuri. We love the coffee, chai, pastries and quiche. The owners and the terrific customer service are a big reason why we keep going back. We have met so many delightful people at Cafe Zuri that we now call friends and we always look forward to the next time we get to meet up with them. Give it a try, you won't be sorry!

My last review was suspiciously removed so I'll take one star off for that sketchiness. To sum, the owner is a great guy but the coffee just isn't good. And the plastic sign is fugly.

I love this place! Let me say I was born and raised in Portland OR.... the mecca of coffee shops and this place felt like home! The way the owner makes my coffee is beyond good. It is smooth and creamy, no bitterness or bite. I come in with my son quite a bit and he is so friendly to him and understanding when my little guy gets a bit fussy. I never feel rushed , in fact it does take a bit for your drink to be crafted but I like that he takes his time so I can sit and enjoy it. There is never a "snob" vibe, just good humble people wanting to stop and chat. I also like that it is a no laptop zone, you don't go there to work or to zone out on your computer or phone, come there to engage face to face with people! LOVE IT!

For my personal preferences, this is a two-star but I don't want to deter people that like this type of coffee shop. It has an elements of Seinfeld's Soup Nazi, in that it's no frills, get your coffee and accompanying pastry and get on your way. Laptops are prohibited, so no camping out and tapping into WiFi. There are four tables insides and two or three outside. Nowhere to lock up your bike (ended up locking mine up out back). I'm not sure how they got "$", a drip coffee in my own mug and a blueberry-almond croissant (points for creativity) was $6.16. I can walk out of Starbucks with a cookie and a coffee for under $3. My preference is local coffee shops, and for me, there are plenty of great spots in the neighborhood that will let me tap into their Internet for a few hours. I usually end up spending more than planned when I camp out for a bit. Zuri has decided the laptop campers are bad for business. I disagree, but it's their business. I'll take mine elsewhere.

Small, cute space run by an even cuter family. A line of two-top tables inside, and a few tables outside too, a little exposed brick, a pop of orange, and paintings and photos for sale. Delicious, homemade pastries. So far, I've tried a raspberry linzer bar made by one of the owners and a blueberry cream cheese croissant. The apple streudel and mini quiches are next on my list. Day-old pastries are 40% off. Coda coffee. Bonnie Brae ice cream. And wi-fi.

Nice people, yummy coffee. Great little coffee shop. Support this place! I don't live locally but would totally make this place a regular stop if I did, so you should pick up the slack for me.

Great place, excellent coffee and pastries from Trompeau... the best this side of the atlantic. It's the best place since common grounds moved with perhaps better coffee. Only down side is it's not really big enough to hang out for a long time.

  • Sarah B.

A welcome addition to the neighborhood, Tomas and his wife and business partner Marianne will make you feel right at home while whipping you up an excellent latte. They also stock some great pastries from Trompeau, as well as house-made cakes and quiches. My only complaints - I wish they allowed laptops so I could make this my new work spot. And they are a little pricier than I'd like. All in all a nice little local coffee shop.

Just went to Cafe Zuri for the first time and it was wonderful! The owners (Marianne and Tomas) are delightful. You feel like you're visiting with old friends as soon as you walk in the door! Great if you want to stay and relax...or grab a quick cuppa Joe on your way to work. I had the absolutely wonderful apple strudel-flaky, apple-y, goodness. My husband enjoyed the asparagus quiche and we both though our coffee was excellent! Oh...their ice cream is super-yummy, too! We can't wait to go back on a non-snowy day to sit on the patio and people watch. Go!

Cafe Zuri is the best coffee in the Highlands' Square area. I'm not a coffee snob. I'll give just about any place a chance, but I like a quality, consistent product if I'm going to spend my money on it. I also appreciate good customer service and a pleasant locale. Cafe Zuri has all of this. Choose from a variety of great drinks that owner Tomas [toe-mahsh] carefully crafts - all with excellent ingredients. He makes a mean Iced Americano and Soy Latte and he even has almond milk, if that's your fancy. To complement your drink or if you just want a snack, grab one of their tasty croissants, pastries, quiches, or other treats on hand that day. Some are house-made, while others are brought in from a bakery in town. While seating is limited, it's a quaint, sunny spot that's always enjoyable to walk into. You'll find a few two-tops, which sit right next to those in line to order (i.e. enjoy a conversation with your friend, but maybe don't make it an intimate one...unless you'd like to share it with the rest of the Highlands.) =0) Prices are a touch higher than your average coffee shop, but then again, this is no average coffee shop. They're passionate about what they do here and about their customers, so I've been been alright paying it so far. If anything, I think the mark-up on the food is more than the coffee and that, I can always pass on. What you should take away from this review, is that Cafe Zuri is a great place to get your morning or afternoon coffee fix. Find it on the south side of 32nd Ave between Meade and Newton. You'll be glad you gave it a try.

Been here once. The pastry was wonderful. The owner was super nice and everything you want in a local shop owner. The cappuccino was good enough. A little better than Starbucks. If all I was looking for was a cap, I have a couple of places I prefer but the whole package here is great and I will be returning frequently. Glad it's in my hood!

Sweet owners, awesome pastries! We love this place and it's part of our weekend routine. The owners are incredibly friendly and have a sweet backstory. They are European and their pastry selection reflects this--everything is delicious, especially the apple strudel. The coffee is good, too.

Love this place! Tomas, the owner/barista, is the best -he knows everyone by name and makes you feel right at home from the moment you step foot into his quaint neighborhood spot, whether you're a regular or visitor passing through. AMAZING apple strudel, to boot!

Great apple streudel, mocha, chai tea & friendly welcoming owners. Now serving Bonnie Brae ice cream; try the chocolate grand marnier. A visit here is worth the calories. Walk it off by strolling around the charming W. Highland neighborhood.
