Perfect combo of food, wine and excellent books - oh, and cozy chairs! Whoever buys the books has GREAT taste!! Go and support them!

I walked in and felt like home. If you love books, coffee, beer and wine, this is YOUR PLACE! They also have poetry readings on Friday nights, which is also right up my alley. Not to mention, the music is pretty damn good. I think Bookbar was made just for me ;)

We have stopped by a couple of times for dessert and coffee. We have always ordered the french press and the coffee is wonderful. The dessert selection is not so great. They do sell other food and wine, but we have only gotten coffee and dessert. The atmosphere is nice. You can sit at the bar or on the couch to relax.

Perfect balance of book & bar. In style like coffee at Tattered Cover but so much classier - but with wine and tasty appetizers.

I spent a good deal of time trying to find a place where i could get a good beer, a quiet atmosphere and the perfect place to get some work done. And not a TV in site. Book Bar is it! Unique in its approach and while they always seem to be buzzing with people the atmosphere is quiet and laid back and there is always a table. The staff is both knowledgeable about books and food alike. I cant say enough about this place.

Loved this place. Great atmosphere in a great neighborhood. Staff was super friendly and the menu is great for small plates. I'll be back for sure....maybe even read next time!

E-readers are great, but I will always prefer paper books. In my ideal world, every neighborhood has a bookstore. This is the ultimate neighborhood bookstore: beautiful, unique space; outstanding book selection; friendly people; comfy seating; and tasty bites and drinks. The space is inviting and quirky in a good way. I especially love the back counter made of books, and the bar top made of book pages. The food items are cleverly named, and even the menus are tastefully cute. The snacks and many of the drinks are locally sourced and include Corvus Coffee. The store is small, but the book selection is mighty. You can order any book they don't have. The cozy seating area is great for groups, and the bar area and smaller tables are great for two or three people or solo readers or writers. Usually, there's a mix of people talking and reading, and working; BookBar has free wifi. Sometimes it might be hard to find a seat, but when that happens, you can take your book to a nearby park. You can also donate books to their Little Free Library out front, and pick up books too. I could go on and on. So many things to love about BookBar--definitely a place worth exploring again and again.

While working from home today I decided to check out this cool coffee/wine shop. Literally a minute after getting my coffee I knocked it off the table all over the floor. (Mind you, no wine was consumed..) Instead of making fun of me (which they should have) the staff helped me clean up the mess and made me a new coffee, free of charge. To top it off they said that now people will come in and smell the coffee I dropped, which will make them all want to buy some hahah. New favorite place in Denver. Plus my nutella soy latte tasted even better the second time around. Awesome people, yummy drinks/food, cool vibe and the perfect music playlist-- what more could you ask for?

I really wanted to like the Book Bar. I love books. I like wine. A social place that combines both? Great! Except that it has a teeny-tiny selection of books and isn't that social. I was walking down Tennyson one evening and decided to stop in. It wasn't overly full, but everything about it gave me the vibe that this was not a place for one person, only for groups. It is probably ideal for book clubs and such. I took a short turn around the book shelves and realized they probably have less than 1000 books in the store. Which is NOTHING for a book store. If you're looking for anything beyond the most recent/most popular it probably isn't here. After a couple of minutes of looking I felt so out of place enough that I left without even trying to order a drink at the bar. It looks comfortable, and I'd imagine it is a wonderful place to go with a a couple other people or meet a book club.

I love this place! All the employees are so friendly and inviting. Great sandwiches! I would recommend people go here to relax, have a cup of coffee, glass of wine, work on their lap top or read a book.

This place is a book lover's dream. Cozy, adorable little book store with a WINE and COFFEE bar... Basically I could live here. They also do small plates (tea sandwiches, mini pizzas, desserts, etc) if you're hungry. They offer a kids story time type thing on Saturdays I believe, and also do a pretty great little happy hour from 4-6 for the adults ;) Definitely my favorite place to grab a drink, curl up, and devour books in Denver.

Love, love, love Bookbar! I don't know why I've never seen a place like this before - really, it seems like a good business model. Provide alcohol for your customers and they'll be more prone to buy books from you. Well, at least that's how it seams to work for me... This place has a decent selection of books - I've been able to find all but one of my books here, and I'm willing to dish out full price after a refreshing beer or glass of wine. Not to mention I get warm fuzzies when I know I'm helping out a local business. I've been here twice now, and I've tried food both times. I have to say, it's worth it despite the small portions. I've had two of the tea sandwiches and one of the crostini. They were all simple in design, but perfect in execution. I'd definitely order again. Not only that, but the service is great, and all the employees I've interacted with (whether it be for food/drinks or books) have been friendly and helpful. They also have free wifi. I'll be back to hang out and also for any of my reading needs.

The friendliest staff, a wide variety of food and drink choices where can you go wrong??!! Love this place whether to pop in for a latte, sit down to return emails and enjoy a drink or have the staff help me locate the next management book to read. L-O-V-E it here!

I had a great time at the Book Bar Friday night - my first time to visit and certainly not my last. A great vibe, a great staff, great feeling from the customers - wine, coffee, books, great people ---- who could ask for more? We got to hear the end of what felt like a really great open mic reading. Very classy environment while still feeling welcoming and casual. Also very community oriented - so happy to have the Bookbar in our neighborhood. And hooray for independent booksellers!

Just great. A really nice place to spend an hour browsing their stock with a good cup of coffee. Had it been later in the day I'd have definitely had a glass of wine, what a great idea! Highly recommend.

This is an awesome place for a casual drink with a friend, a little bit of study time, or a glass of wine and a book. The servers are very friendly and inviting. I've yet to be disappointed when visiting here, regardless of what I was visiting for. Overall, I really enjoy the environment here and they make a really good Chai Latte. More than likely, I will continue to make visits here on a regular basis.

01JUN2013 Both the Cheese Plate and the Charcuterie Plate are awesome. Meats and cheeses from The Truffle. A lazy Saturday afternoon very late lunch. Super service. Just a great atmosphere AND the south from window is going to be replaced with an accordion window. 31MAY2013 I have been looking forward to the grand opening and here it is. A great new addition to the neighborhood. I had a glass of Bonacquisti [d] RED which was reasonably priced and quite tasty. It went perfectly with my Mario Puzzo pizzetta. + Free Wi-Fi. + Hefty paper napkins. + Atmosphere. Books and booze. Always a good combo. + Very friendly staff and owner. - The crust on the pizza was somewhat undercooked. I would crank up the oven temperature and leave in slightly longer. Overall. Highly recommended.

I've been here 3 times now and each visit has been better than the last. A serious must-see for anyone who loves books and wine like I do. I first heard about this place in the spring/summer of 2013 on the Internet. There was a list of the "coolest bookstores in the country" or some such and I was expecting the Tattered Cover to be listed, but instead the site mentioned this place called the BookBar. Huh? Upon further investigation (re: subscribing to their online newsletter), I found out that it had *just* opened and they were doing a community book club thing and the first selection was Neil Gaiman's latest The Ocean at the End of the Lane. So a friend and I decided to read the book and go to the evening meeting. The book was good, the discussion with strangers was lively, the wine was tasty, the appetizers were yummy, and my delight at finding a place that had my two loves (books & wine) accessible in one place cannot be overestimated. The next visit wasn't until the winter of 2014 because I live over half an hour away. I found myself at Regis University and made a special visit to the Bookbar for an afternoon of reading, writing, and drinking iced coffee. It was a truly lovely way to spend the day. The third time was June 2014 when I took my book club there for a special field trip to participate in Book Trivia at the bar. I failed to win the coveted "Nerd of the Week" title (my friend beat me by one point!), but they still let me have a consolation prize: a paperback from their ARC reject pile and a free glass of wine. Yay! Needless to say, my girlfriends and I had a blast. The outside view of the establishment is very cute and fits in with the trendy up-and-coming neighborhood on Tennyson. I love their sign and the free lending library (they gladly took my donations for it too). Inside, the left side of the store has the books and cozy couches, perfect for individuals or a group to read and relax. The right side is a long bar where you'll find a clever appetizer menu, a wine list, and various coffee drinks. Service is just okay, but the quality of the food and drinks is above average. Nicole Sullivan deserves a special mention. She's the owner and has been working the cash register there all 3 times I visited. She's really friendly and will talk books with you at the drop of a hat, a quality I value. I complimented her selection and she thanked me and explained that she had to keep inventory low which led to only ordering spectacular titles for the stores. Then she asked for new recommendations. It's not a large store by any means, but ANY BOOK you buy here will be phenomenal. That's no easy feat. In addition, I know from their newsletter that they have many author events, they support local authors, they have a kids' storytime and a Happier Hour and special discounts for Book Clubs. What more could you want? It's such a fun and welcoming place that I hope they're around for a long time. The BookBar is a wonderful addition to the Denver scene and I can't wait to go again.

Coffee. Beer. Wine. But don't come if you ain't got no literary prowess. If you're worried about the environment, they recycle. The counters are pages of books, which makes you feel scholarly. If Michelle Obama had to go to a coffee shop to get caught up on her recent novel, it would be this one.

Cozy and comfy. It's WAY better than your standard Starbucks. Go, have a glass of wine or their great hot chocolate, chill.

I stopped in here for a couple of hours with Jennie T. before our flight back to Chicago. The concept is so obvious, but makes so much sense. Book lovers and cafe patrons alike simple crave venues like this. You can paw through the formidable selection of books inside Bookbar's store, read at your own comfort (the employees [owners?] were very hospitable and welcomed us to read books at our own leisure), drink a glass of wine or coffee/espresso, or just get some work done as Bookbar provides fast (e.g., 30Mbps) and free wi-fi. We ordered an inexpensive glass of Rose ($6) and an Americano ($3.50) and both were on point. They also offer a variety of cute hors d'oeuvres and confection at reasonable prices. The thing I most take away from my visit here is that Chicago has to open up some places like Bookbar.

Everything you desire in the comfort of your own home without all the distractions of projects, dishes, or cleaning. It's comfy, cozy, and welcoming. Intimate for dates. Quiet for studying. Space for small meetings. The prices are great and the bar staff knows their drinks and how to make them right. I'll be back for sure.

I went here for a book club and had a great time. We went on a Saturday night and there was plenty of space for us to spread out on the couches. We shared some bottles of wine and some appetizers which were delicious. The staff that helped us was very friendly and gave us book recommendations. The place was very clean and had a unique atmosphere. I love bookstores and am glad to find a local one to support. I haven't been to any of their events but it seems like they've got some fun activities to check out.

I like this concept of a book themed bar with a selection of books to skim through and ample seating. This is not that. Half the space is an over priced book store leaving seating for maybe 20 people max and only 5 comfy chairs/couch. The mark up on drinks/food is far greater than books, so why waste precious retail space on something that almost unilaterally cannot succeed like a book store? Idk, anywho, the little munchies they served were delicious, drinks were really good and service was friendly. One star off for no where to sit and relax when there is more than 5 people here

  • Jolene C.

I love this place for a cozy happy hour with just one or two other people, but it's also a great date spot or comfy place to browse for a new book. Once you find the right book, there's a large couch by the window where you can read and even order a glass of wine and a snack. The service is good - they don't keep you waiting for your food or drink - and the prices are reasonable. Unlike many places in the highlands, parking isn't a complete pain in the neck, either. Oh, and did I mention they have trivia night?

Stopped by the Bookbar while my better half was getting her hair done. This place totally rocks to kill a couple of hours in. The inside is half book store, half café serving wine, beer, coffee and other local treats. Free internet, AMAZING basil infused water combined with a crostini and mini pesto pizzetta made my day. All items were served at a great price point. Coming from Boulder, I am used to having some relaxed places to hang out, but Bookbar takes the cake. I could have spent the whole day here and been totally content.

Bad to indifferent service, but good wine selection. Haven't tried the food yet since I've only been in for drinks at the bar. The pastries are cute and look good though.

Great books and a nice wine selection make this an awesome place. Its upscale, relaxing and the food is very nice. The service was great and everyone was nice. I was here with my wife to check it out and we managed to pass a good hour in here.

I first found the Bookbar with my stepson last summer when we stumbled upon their Where's Waldo festivities for the month of July. The Bookbar got a chunk of the local business to hide Waldo for the kids to find. My stepson LOVED it and I enjoyed exploring the other stores on Tennyson that I may have not otherwise visited. At each store the kids got a signature when they found Waldo and then when they turned in their passport they got a button, a coupon and entered into the grand-prize drawing. This year they did the same thing for the month of July and we were able to attend the Waldo Party. What a fun time and a great community store. Bookbar's commitment to Tennyson street has made me a real fan! I try to come back as often as possible!

  • Inayah V.

An independent bookstore and bar serving local beer, wine, pastries and small plates to compliment the literary experience? Count me in! Bookbar executes this wonderful concept flawlessly in a beautiful space on Tennyson, a stretch of street already packed with unique businesses. Do yourself a favor and pop in, order something from the book-themed menu or eclectic wine list, and enjoy a great read from well stocked shelves. Bookbar has many seating options; high top tables near full windows, the bar itself, lounge, or soon to be built patio! If all of this isn't enough to draw you in, Bookbar hosts plenty of event, including local author book signings. This is definitely a place to spend some quality time.

I sat down, drank beer and ate a book. I think I'm just parroting what everyone else is saying, so I'll be brief. This it a great concept, the food is good, the wine as well. Perfect place to kick back, whether you're being dragged along by a bookworm type who insists on perusing every aisle, or just want to browse a book or two over a nice chianti. With fava beans.

  • Salina C.

I don't know what to say that hasn't already been said. I'm not the type to hang out (comfortably) for hours in a book store, but I can spend hours on end here without batting an eyelash. Tommy and the other employees are just awesome and make the environment super cozy. Did you go to FSU? If so, you're in good company here!!! Best. Place. Ever. Just read the plethora of amazing reviews.

  • Karina K.

I love this place! It was my first time here and I didn't expect a lot because it's harder to be disappointed that way. Then I got the champagne jelly and I KNEW this was the place for me. My friend and I shared a cheese plate and the only thing wrong with that was the goat cheese, but the lady who brought it out couldn't have known the depth of my disdain for goat cheese so I won't blame her. The atmosphere and decor is basically perfect. Most bookworms would give their right foot to have that in their own homes. What else did I love about it..well. Everything. I love everything about that place. New in town and wanna hang out someplace chill? GO HERE. Need to do homework in public so you don't start sobbing? GO HERE! They can't help you with the homework, but they will make you feel better with wine. Because it fixes everything.

Book bar is a cool concept store where you can go and read, buy or talk about books while you enjoy wine, beer or finger foods. They don't offer utensils for their foods because everything is made so you can read & eat simultaneously. The shop is a smallish size but they're expanding 700 square feet and will soon have an outdoor patio space. Their expansion will also separate the kids area. The book selection is few if you're comparing this book store to places like Barnes & Noble. They have author readings, happy hours, book talks & book launches. They sell games & gifts as well.

  • Frances G.

I'm all about a bar that functions as a bookstore that functions as a coffee shop. Not only that - a bookstore/bar/coffee shop that serves up delicious, locally sourced food and coffee for one to enjoy while working (free wifi :), perusing the books, or simply unwinding from the day. With the clever menu that pays homage to the great writers and novels of our day and days past in a punny way - you can't help but try one of their many menu samplings. I settled on the 'Love in the Time of Hummus' plate and 'One Flew Over the Veggie Plate.' The dish was as delicious and wonderful as the title. Next time, I am definitely going for the 'Mad Hatter': Chorizo and goat cheese stuffed mushrooms. The quaint space is packed from floor to ceiling with books. Don't be fooled by the small size as I have a feeling each shelf is packed to the brim with top sellers, staff recommendations, and local authors. Also hosting events like Literary Game Night, Poetry Series, Bookbar Booknight - there is always something to look forward to...if local wine, food, and coffee at great prices wasn't enough. But the most special aspect is the dedication to various local initiatives, like Colorado Coalition For the Homeless, Bienvenidos Food Bank, Denver Writes, and more. Just check it out for yourself, and you'll see what I am talking about!

So much fun! Who doesn't like a glass of wine while you peruse shelves of books?? The bar has wine and beers, plus some handheld snacks. Prices are decent. The bookstore side has single copies of very popular and unusual books. The staff is really helpful in pointing you in the right direction, especially when you don't know what you're looking for. There's space to hang out, and the owner said they are looking to expand to have a patio. I'll be back!

I met a friend here for a girls night out. I showed up early and saw my opportunity to nestle into one of the overstuffed leather chairs and pull out my book. The space is really well done and I love the stacked books with a counter top in the bookstore area. The bar had pages of a book pasted to the counter top. When my friend showed up we moved over to the bar and ordered. The menu is styled like a book and very thoughtful. I love that everything is finger food so you don't have to put down your book to eat. Clearly a book lover who understands the soul consuming of a great book designed the space. My friend got the hummus and I opted for the nuts and olives. It was the perfect little snack washed down with a local beer. We had a great time and it was my little version of heaven to be surrounded by books, chatting with a good friend and little nibbles with great brew.

Great modern twist on the bookstore: part wine bar, part cafe, part lounge, and part bookstore. The location is clean and the staff are friendly the moment you walk in. Food items are cleverly named after notorious authors, and like minded individuals abound. Great time with my friend here and I highly recommend a visit.

  • S M.

I love this place. They have a great selection of titles and I've never left without finding at least one or two new books. Parking is easy and this is a great place to go if you're feeling a little anti social/withdrawn/depressed because you can just be and read and look at books and chill in a comfortable, classy, clean, warm feeling place. It's not dark and dreary like the tattered covers (caves) and its not musty and dusty like used book stores. The people who work here are upbeat, personable, (and attractive). This place is perfect. 10 stars is they had that many.

This place is pretty cozy. I've been here twice this week since I've been studying for finals. It is quiet but not too quiet and they have a really good "Dirty Chai." They have daily happy hour specials. Coffee, beer, wine, charging stations, what more can a student ask for? The employees are also very friendly. My new go to study place :)

  • Patrick R.

Went to the open mic poetry tonight and was completely let down. No master of ceremonies, no sign up, zero participation, no direction, just an empty microphone stand. The place has great potential for what could be a fun venue for poetry readings but without any one at the helm that ship won't sail.

My book club spent two delightful hours at Bookbar today. We had called to see if someone could meet with our group and review books we might be interested in reading. Carol spent 30 minutes reviewing books and answering our questions. She is very knowledgable, helpful, and made us all feel welcome. As part of our visit we preordered their catering for lunch. I had left it up to them to make the selections. My mouth is still watering from the amazing selection of hor d'oeuvres, tea sandwiches and petit fours. I am looking forward to another visit to this quaint little book store during happy hour to try a little vino from their wine bar and of course a tasty snack.

I am happy to say that the past couple of times I went in, the service was SO MUCH improved. Last night I met a friend there for drinks/snacks, and the ladies were super helpful re: wine, and I was able to pick up a book I've wanted while there too. We had a couple of glasses of red wine, tried the crostini and some tea sandwiches which were perfect for sharing. Go grab a drink, try their small bites menu, or pick up that book you've wanted.

I like the idea of the bookbar. It's a book store with food/drinks served. I like that they have lots of free activities and it's a great meeting place. The food isn't very good. the books are over priced compared to Amazon (which also has more selection). I want to support local businesses, but I also want to not waste my money. I'm torn between a 4 and a 3. The happy hour prices on the food is still too high - there is no kitchen ( i think they just microwave things or they just don't know how to cook). My husband won't go back because of an unfriendly staff person. There was one unfriendly staff person. The rest of the staff are very helpful. I know a lot of people go to the Bookbar for drinks, kids story hour and meet ups. However, I can't justify buying expensive books -- especially children books that my kid will grow out of in a few months/year- I can buy books online or rent at the library.

Friendly people, warm atmosphere, good food and drinks. Love the decor. Comfortable nook, wished I lived closer to be able to drop by frequently. Our children have had lots of experiences with pastries and they really loved theirs. We will be returning here with friends.

If my bookclub were like batman, this would be our batcave. And Carol would be our Alfred. Let me explain. I love this place. The first time I went in here, I think I just ooh'd and ahh'd and smiled for a solid hour. It is warm and inviting, well decorated, quirky in moderation, and perfectly curated. You know how overwhelming B&N or Tattered Cover can be, and how, often, used book stores are very unorganized. But HERE every book on the shelves I either have read or want to read. The selection is not too big, it's not too small, its juuuuuust right. Now, to Carol: she works here and reads an average of 400 pages a day, has probably read your favorite book, as well as your next favorite book, and is the resident book expert. She is a lovely conversationalist and quite possibly the coolest person I've ever met on the other side of a "bar." Personally, I find that people who read are among the most interesting and the ones I most want to be friends with, but reading in itself is a solitary activity, so there is an intrinsic difficulty to meeting people who like to read. But bookbar knows this and so they developed a lovely solution: 1) They select both a book and wine of the month. 2) At the end of the month they have a drop-in bookclub night where you can come and talk about the book with a bunch of strangers! PERFECT! Also, there is a little free book exchange on the exterior of the store front, where you can take a book or leave a book, which I find so thoughtful and beyond adorable. Other things I love; wine, coffee, mini cake cubes, teatulia tea, free wifi, comfortable reading lounge, awesome decor, oh... and pretty much EVERYTHING. I come here quite frequently and I leave smiling every time. Now, THAT is as good as it gets.
