Seriously convenient if you need to grab a quick bite before a show at DPAC! There is coffee, pastries, calzones, alcoholic beverages and tons of seating but I was in the mood for something pretty substantial so I chose the hot turkey sandwich with garlic fries. The fries were SO good! I had to buy a pack of gum before I left because I'm pretty sure that I was exuding garlic fumes in every direction. The turkey sandwich was tasty and very filling - lots of cheese and turkey - I would have loved some slaw on it! That would have been awesome. We were able to scarf down our food in fifteen minutes and run over to the Buell just in time for opening curtain. It doesn't get more convenient than that. Not to mention that all the servers were very helpful especially since we were in a rush and they were backed up. Looking forward to trying the coffee there next time!

Honestly this place was pretty good but their pastries seemed way overpriced. I enjoyed my coffee and the friendly staff. Nothing too special. Didn't blow my mind. But I enjoyed it. Better than starbucks.

Pros: Right next to the theater Quick turn around on orders Super pleasant staff Tasty options Giant cups of tea Cons: Cost is a bit high - but honestly for the convenience, location it's worth it. I met a girl friend here before a show, i got a giant cup of earl grey tea - mmmm, nice to warm my hands around that big mug! We split the red pepper and goat cheese croissant - and yes it was microwaved, but i thought it was still great and since it wasn't crispy i didn't cover myself in crumbs - bonus for me! We also split the cherry croissant - woah! Lovely! The wine was also costly, but honestly it matches the area. If i don't have a ton of time, i'll pop in here to get a snack before the theater.

This was a great find! Located in one of the touristiest areas of town, you'd think this one would be overpriced bad quality drinks. Instead it offered me a delicious chai latte (no, seriously worth trying) for a great price in an environment that feels completely separate from the craziness outside. You can't even get most coffee shops and LA and Boston to feel like this. If I lived in this town, I'd be here all the time. The shape of this place is peculiar in that it is really loooooong. There's the general area on the left when you walk in. But there's also a large long space and a private area in the back for more quiet and far away from the drafty door.

Good for pre-show coffee, tea, beer wine or mixed drinks. Better food options than I expected. I had a croissant with turkey bacon, chicken and cheese. It came with a side salad with avocado, goat cheese, tomatoes, cucumber and a poppy seed dressing. Has some gluten free options Staff is friendly.

A bit expensive, but the coffee was very good. Also the croissants were airy and buttery even though we went right before the evening show at the Buell. The prime location makes it the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat before the show.

I popped into this place because I was really tired after a long day of work. I'm not one to drink coffee for anything but the taste but, in this case, it was needed. I was impressed at how good the food looked but it was coffee I was after and if my coffee reflects the service, care and taste of their food then I absolutely want to come back. I found the staff friendly and knowledgable and I was glad to see they made great lattes!

I want to give this 3 stars because of the prices, but I give it four because it is what it is being next to the theatres. Yes, it's near a touristy area of Denver, but yes, you can find cheaper places over on 16th or around there. I bought a cranberry orange scone today and it cost $3+ (wow...) and a small latte $3.80. Total was $7+ That seems a bit pricey to me. However, scone was pretty delicious (I like mine a little drier), and the latte was made for the right temperature and it's strong. There's lovely art all around the building, plenty of places to sit and gaze out the window or work on your laptop.

The coffee was mediocre. Resteamed old milk. No real style to the cup. The space is big with lots of seats so it looks a good place to hang out and study for a while. But I'd go somewhere else if I want a really good cup of coffee, which I never found in this part of town.

Note: This is only a review for the coffee. We came in here in the morning for a cup of joe. Awful... We tried the dark roast coffee and the backstage latte. Both were equally bland or simply tasteless. The coffee was shown as "Dark" but it was so watered-down. The backstage latte was milked-down comparatively. We had gotten Voodoo Doughnuts and wanted some coffee to pair with it.. Argh what a terrible decision to come to this coffee shop!

Nice little place to come to before the theater. They have a nice selection of sugar free syrups to choose from. I ordered the the white chocolate raspberry latte and my husband ordered an Americano. For some reason, my drink was cold. As in it seemed to have just come out of the refrigerator cold. However, they were happy to remake it. Once my drink was hot, it was delicious.

Excellent place to grab some great local coffee. They have varieties of pastries and food options that they bake In house. Baristas are very nice in the mornings especially when they need to wake up in the morning very early (assuming). I love that they use Monin gourmet syrup, it beats that nasty Torani crap. Right next to the Performing arts Complex. Very spacious inside of the coffee shop. It is also very nice that the owners are in everyday. Very cool family business with excellent food and drinks!

Limited choices and standard types. Stale chocolate chip muffin. Plenty of other choices in the area unless you just want coffee.

"I'd like a hot chocolate extra sweet." "I'll give you a regular hot chocolate. You can put some sugar in it."

Corporate paelet at best and unfortunately I walked in and out. There was a creative and funky vibe do I was hopeful but it failed to deliver in every way I desired.

Swell little coffee joint in the heart of downtown. Love how close it is to campus, the backstage latte has gotten me through many cram sessions.

Locally owned with great tea and pastry options. The little one loved her hot chocolate. The owners are super friendly. There is a lot of space, lots of tables and window bar seats as well as a couch and arm chairs. A great place to go before or after a show.

Haven't been here in a long time, but my daughter and I stopped in for a warm drink before heading to the Buell for "Mamma Mia" (sigh...so so overdue with this update!). We were so happy, I felt maybe it was time to revisit my review for Backstage Coffee. We had a half hour to waste before heading in for the show, so we ducked into the warm, inviting interior of Backstage. They've *really* spruced up the place since my last visit in 2012. The entire back room has been converted into an art gallery, featuring several high-top tables, standard four-tops, and beautiful paintings throughout the room. We were greeted immediately by two friendly baristas as we got in line to order, and those two had things *hopping* - as fast as orders were being placed, food and drinks were popping up on the counter for pickup. We ordered two simple hot chocolates, but there was nothing simple about the taste. Perfect temperature, absolutely creamy and delicious. Definitely worth the stop! This was a complete 180 from my last review in 2012. I love Backstage!

Calm and cool shop with a good amount of space. Enjoyed my spicy iced chai with almond milk, though the vegan muffin was not the best. Would recommend and return.

Dateline "Theatre Day": 1) You're excited you got tickets to see a show at DPAC! 2) You have to work the whole day of the show. 3) Lunch scarfed down around 12:30 PM. 4) No time for a snack break due to back-to-back-to-back-to-back work phone calls. 5) Curtain is at 7:30 PM. 6) Your GF is meeting you at your place since it's on the way. 7) Your GF is always running late, you can set your watch to it...well maybe not. 8) Rush hour traffic bites. 9) Parking downtown is a P.I.T.A. so you pay the $10 to park in the DPAC garage. 10) You pick up tickets at will call. 11) Your stomach is growling so loudly that others look at you with a mix of disgust and pity. 12) You have exactly 17 minutes and 43 seconds to eat something before the show. So that's how I ended up at Backstage Coffee. Theatregoers ("re" because it's classy :p) have several options for pre-show food around the DPAC, most of those options require some planning however, but Backstage Coffee doesn't. You just show up, get in line, order, pay at the register, wait for your order to be barked out (hate that, how about out a number?), find a table, consume your food, and make a mad dash for the show. The coffee drinks are fine; in fact they are scalding hot so watch out. The food, eh, not so much. Tried a croissant with roasted red peppers, tomatoes and goat cheese for ~ $8 and you get some salad greens on the side too. Sounds yummy right? The taste was ok, but the croissant was mushy because...it's microwaved. Boo! Seriously, who microwaves a croissant? No. No. No. Backstage Coffee did what I needed them to do: stop my stomach from offending everyone and allow me to get in and out in a hurry, I just wasn't expecting that much of a QSR experience. I guess I need to plan better when I have a show at DPAC.

Backstage coffee is truly wonderful place. There is a wide variety of very exceptional drinks, and the espresso is wonderful. The food is delicious, and well prepared. The staff is very friendly. There is tons of space with many different style seating arrangements. The shop is filled from top to bottom with interesting paintings and other pieces of art, a cool environment. It's everything you could ask for in a coffee shop, and a place you will be happy to give your business to.

I love how everyone starts their review with "I was going to the theater". That should be the name of this coffee shop. In any event, we were going to the theater and needed a quick nibble so we didn't eat the other theater goers during the show. Backstage coffee fit the bill, located on the corner of Curtis and 14th right next to all the theaters. I bet next to convenience in the dictionary, Backstage Coffee is listed. The line was long, but was fast moving. We opted for a Sun-dried tomato and Goat cheese croissant with a little side salad, a bottle of water and a cup of coffee. The wait for the food seemed longer then the wait in line to order. We grabbed our warm croissant and sat outside with a group of friends. I was pleasantly surprised at how wonderful the croissant tasted, there was just enough Goat cheese to provide that creaminess and the Sun-dried tomato gave that sweet tangy flavor that complimented the cheese nicely. The location is perfect for some interesting people watching. You can see the theater goers cross right in front of you as they walk or run to their show for the evening. Another show and potentially another stop at Backstage Coffee. Convenience and lack of other quick options close make this the go to place when you're coming to the theater.

Stopped in after seeing Cirque Dreams Holidaze at the Buell and was greeted by a very warm and friendly lady with tons of cheer. She made me a wonderful Chai Latte made with my favorite Bhakti Chai, and we had a great little chat about chai and the different variations. It was a quick stop but I also noticed some amazing looking snacks in their case so when I roll through again I'll defiantly give them a try.

What a great find! I know it is right there in front of the Denver Center for Performing Arts...hard to miss, but I just assumed it was a coffee spot. Actually, it is much more. We enjoyed a delicious quick bite of dinner there last night as we were pressed for time prior to opening curtian for our show. We sat outside at a little bistro table and enjoyed sundried tomato and goat cheese croissants accompainied by house salads and a glass of Malbec for about $12 a person!!! Our table was situated along the sidewalk which allowed great people watching on a beautiful Colorado evening. Despite our rush, we were able to sit down and catch our breath at this little spot. Nice!! The food was really tasty and bargain priced! I would not hesitate to return for lunch, a laid back bite of dinner or dessert. With a full line of coffee drinks, wine list, and fairly complete bar, it makes a great stop before or after a show!

Order the Brownie, its a hidden secret. With Having some time to kill before a show. Came in here to order a Chai Tea and a Brownie. It just looked to good to pass up. And she asked If I wanted a corner or Edge piece. Wow Really? I wish more places would ask. Edge piece all the way. This is a nice little gem. Be sure to stop in.

Yelp saved me from the chaos, long lines and mediocre food of the Convention Center by suggesting a short walk to Backstage Coffee. I'm so glad I listened! As I waited for my breakfast, the friendly barista gave me several recommendations of places to see art in the city. He then invited me to sit and brought the food to my table. Very courteous and professional. I was thrilled to see almond milk was an option here; the latte they made was delicious, creamy and just the right amount of sweet (I ordered almond flavoring as well -- or maybe vanilla? Can't remember, but I loved it!) The star of the show, though, was the homemade ham and Swiss croissant: thin, smoky ham, buttery pastry, and rich melting cheese, warmed in a panini press and served with fresh fruit. I was transported and lingered after it was long gone, enjoying the memory of such a beautiful breakfast. My meal was a little pricey ($13) but rich, filling and worth every penny. I would go back in a heartbeat.

If you are going to the theater and you are pressed for time, you can swing by and get some soup or a quick sandwich to fill you up so that you can make it through the show. The prices are high, the gumbo is thin and not gumbo-y at all, but overall the food is really good. We have had the Croissants before and they were really good! The employees are really friendly all the time and they don't make you feel stupid for asking questions or having a special request. There is an art gallery in the back area, you can sit back there and enjoy the art while you snack or drink your coffee. They should sell gum and mints so that you can take them to the theater, that's my only problem with this place! You are on the corner, with no gas stations or convenience stores around, sell some gum!

Convenient coffee. That's my purpose here. I came for the convenient coffee. It was coffee, it was convenient, and it was served up with a smile. That rates A-OK in my book. It looks like there's a lot more to this place than just coffee, though. There is a whole food menu, adult beverages, art, and all sorts of other stuff going on. While not in the market for that, I can appreciate that it exists here. The location is obviously very convenient for the performing arts center (or whatever you call this huge arts complex right in downtown), and was also convenient to hotel Teatro, my crash pad while in Denver. Can't say I was huge on the coffee. Definitely serviceable, and they have lots of fancy drink options. But my coffee-black was okay. I'd go back if I needed to, and definitely would pick this spot over the 'bux.

I was running behind last night on my way to see American Idiot at DCPA and I needed a really quick snack before heading in to see the show. I took a peek inside Backstage Coffee not really knowing if they'd have anything that I would want to eat for my equivalent of dinner. Lo and behold though, they did! If you are in the same boat, or even have more time than I do, but don't want to go to a regular restaurant or eat a big meal you can swing into Backstage and pick up treats like a slice of pizza, a calzone, savory pastries, or a cheese plate (not with fancy cheeses, but with fruit, veggies, bread, and your standard cheddar/jack cubes) to fill you up. Plus they have mini bags of fun candies like swedish fish or nonpareils. Best of all, even though there was a line, I was in and out of there in no time at all and even had enough time to spare pre-show to meander to my seat instead of rushing. So good to have options like this around the theater center!

Very convenient for DPAC!!! Long lines but they move fast. The have a wide variety of food and snacks. It is a great place to grab a bite before or after a show. They need more seating. The desserts are to die for......really nice

  • Nicole S.

Super crowded prior to the start of Peter and the Starcatcher, but not so bad. The wait time between entering the line to place an order and actually scrounging up some seats was minimal. The spinach and feta croissant was good--crispy, flaky, and not too greasy--but the price should have been more conspicuously posted. We were in for a shock when they served it with a side of salad for a whopping $10 combo! At any rate, we enjoyed the surrounding art and atmosphere. Much better than milling about the foyer of the Ellie Caulkins Opera House! I'd be more than willing to give this place another shot, especially to try one of their delectable desserts! They all looked so tasty in the display case...

Great place in the middle of downtown--I had the cherry croissant and a white chocolate mocha. The attached art gallery space is beautiful too. I wish there were parking around, but hey, this is downtown Denver, and street/garage parking is the best you can do. I was staying at the Curtis across the street, so it was pretty convenient for me to hit up Backstage. I spent a little under $10 for my haul, which includes tax and tip, so plan appropriately.

I come here all the time. Coffee is cheap but great (lattes like most places are a little more expensive). The food is also a little more expensive but not bad; it's all made fresh in House by their chef and is always delicious. The staff is great and very personal. It always has free Wi-Fi like most places these days. Clearly, I'll be back since I'm here a couple times a week.

  • Dale Z.

Nice cup of coffee . . . okay, large, iced, breve, latte with splenda. Despite there being a somewhat lengthy line, it moved rather quickly. The coffee had nice, deep, dark flavor without tasting burnt. The price was reasonable. My only complaint would be they did not have any splenda behind the counter, nor did they have any at the station. They finally located a splenda shaker, but it was severely clumped from moisture and really hard to get anything out of. I know, "first world problem", but is was a needless annoyance in an otherwise near perfect drink and painless purchasing experience.

Kind of disappointing that with the cold weather, indie hipster culture, and all around coffee friendly vibe that Denver has... One cannot find a quality shot of espresso. Ink! Is about the best there is here. That said, Abby Q., Evan B., and Julia D. all decided we needed a cup of joe to fill out the time until The Book of Mormon started. Abby got a cappucino and I must say, her foam was nice and dry. Quite spoonable. Julia got an ice tea. Easy. Evan got some frou-frou latte. Sweet. Now comes mine.... Solo Ristretto Con Panna. Any actual barista should understand all 3 of those terms seperately AND combined. Apparenty they didn't, and the cashier blamed it on an automatic espresso machine. CLUELESS. Lemme break this down: Solo = single Ristretto = restrained (a very popular way to order an espresso. Its cuts the bitter finish.) Con Panna = w/ whipped cream Basically I wanted a single shot of espresso, ristretto, with whipped cream. They still didn't understand what ristretto meant, so I explained and got a deer in the headlights look. So ink! Is where I will stay. I KNOW Herbie trains his crew on ristretto technique quite well. He's the owner and he likes a double ristretto for his espresso drinks. I would know, I worked there 3 years ago. :P

This is the place to go ! A chilly spring evening, a steaming latte and a lovely spinach and feta croissant...with a salad. The bustle and hum add to the ambiance. I found it friendly and it had a great energy. I did not feel awkward eating alone at all. Great place for a quick dinner before a show or a play....or the opera. Ill definitely be back !

So, you've just seen a show at the DCPA... you're not ready to head for home, but you don't really want to hit a bar in LoDo, either. What to do? Well, try meandering about 50 feet over to Backstage Coffee, which is in the performing arts complex right on 14th Street. In Backstage, you'll find wonderful coffee, hot chocolate, wine, beer, and food - way more food than I imagined! They've got a couple sandwich options, calzones, and tons of pastries - including three kinds of shortbread. Yum! Backstage expanded pretty recently, and if you head towards the back of the restaurant you'll find a more open space, with more tables, a leather couch, and two leather chairs. The people watching here is definitely fun - I love that people go to the DCPA in everything from jeans and a t-shirt (hey, it's Denver!) to full on evening gowns. The windows along 14th make this a great place to sit back, sip on your favorite beverage, and check it all out... hey, just tell yourself you're waiting for the parking garage to empty out. Better to sit at Backstage than to sit in your car, fuming!

We stumbled on this place as we were walking back to our hotel room and it was SO GOOD! Such a great coffee shop to sit and enjoy a "for here" coffee. Try the encore latte with espresso whipped cream.. YUM!

Waiting for Dixie's Tupperware Party next door we decided to pop in and grab a bite at Backstage Coffee. They do have more than just coffee and baked goods. I had the ham and Swiss croissant which comes with either a salad or fruit, I choose the salad. My dinner friend had a cup of their tomato bisque soup. It was all tasty and the prices were very reasonable.

This place is totally deserted during the afternoon on weekdays. A great quiet place to work or have a meeting. I only had a tea, but the service was great. I'll be back if I'm in the area!

I got the Backstage Latte and it just tastes like milk. I can't taste the coffee at all. And I paid $5. That's what makes me really wary of trusting independent coffee shops...

We stopped by this little coffee shop in the late afternoon, so there was not many other people and we received great coffee and quick service. The barista did mention that they are always slammed before and after a show (since they are right in the DCPA complex), so try to go when there isn't a show to get quick service.

Was in Denver a year and a half ago and I LOVE this coffee shop! Wish that we had one like it in Kansas City! The service was fast and friendly, prices reasonable and great Irish and Italian coffees. They're even open to suggestions to change recipes. Since I was there a few summers ago a friend of mine wanted an Irish coffee but didn't want the hot drink. They turned it into an Iced Irish Coffee for him then started serving it to others after! #awesome

What a great little coffee shop to be able to stop into before going to a show at the DCPA! I ordered a cappuccino that totally hit the spot. The shop was clean and had a nice variety of baked goods, teas, and coffee drinks. While the barista didn't know how to make Courtney B.'s drink, this didn't seem like the place where the employees live and breathe coffee. If you can excuse that, this is the perfect place to stop and kill some time if you're early for your show.

Before heading over to the Stage Theatre to see To Kill A Mockingbird, I stopped into Backstage Coffee for a cup of tea. I was fairly impressed with their tea selection... take a look at the selection, tell them which you'd like and what size you want, and they'll take care of it. The staff that I interacted with seemed friendly and moderately knowledgeable, though I overheard a customer asking one of the more seasoned baristas about what "amaretto tastes like", and the response was that it was sweet, but beyond that, they didn't remember. Hmm. Sitting at a table nearest the Performing Arts Complex, I had a fantastic opportunity for prime people-watching. The location was great if you are on your way to a show. I actually had one of the actresses from the very show I was on my way to see in line in front of me. I got to hear all about the tarter build-up problems she'd spent hours and hundreds of dollars at the dentist to fix. Ugh. TMI people. No one needs to hear that. The one main disappointment are the prices. My small tea was $2.00. I realize the location calls for an increase in prices, but that was a little steep for a tea that I was unable to replenish... in my opinion. Happy Drinking

This is the best place! Location & hours are awesome. Every time I come in it smells so good! It reminds me of when I was little and my mom made coffee cake for breakfast. That is what you are going to get here. Tasty, high quality food & pastries are the speciality here. From the soups , to the ham & cheese croissants , to the home made short bread its all warm, sweet ooey gooey made with love yummy-ness . Also the staff is fantastic. Jan is a delight. and Tyler will make sure you get the friendliest service with the best smile. The other employees are friendly , and helpful with great energy. This place is not to be missed. A good way to support local business and the best darn food.

You guys. I've found my favorite latte in all of Denver. The Encore Latte: caramel and vanilla latte topped with house made espresso whipped cream and caramel sauce. It's TO DIE FOR. Plus I really like how spacious this spot it. I will be back here for SURE!

So much better to go in here and feel welcomed in a large city. The people are great here and so is the coffee. They use Pablos coffee (my personal favorite local roaster) and are a nice level of friendly. You don't get the early morning fake bubbly bouncy in your face rushed worker (que face punch), but someone who knows that you are there to procure something to help you get going before work (or wherever you are going). They also have adult beverages, so if you are toting sover sally along to a show at the performing arts center, both of you can find something to enjoy pre or post curtain call. The food though, enh. Works if you are starving, or lazy, or don't go there frequently, but nothing to jump for joy for. I really liked when they had select pastries from Buffalo Doughboy (another local fav) but they are doing it all in house now. They do usually have a small selection of gluten free breads and treats which is nice and fruit comes with practically everything they serve, which is a nice touch. Skip the big chain and stop in and give them a shot, I think you'll be pleased.

An amazing place: delicious savory croissants and sweet (but not too sweet) danishes, muffins, and shortbread. Their coffee is great and their service is very friendly. My favourite was the roasted veggie croissant.

A coffee shop in the DCPA! I have been going to Backstage coffee for over a decade, all the way back to when I had to wait for my parents following a school field trip. It is a great coffee shop with all of the standard selections, great baked goods, and ice cream. The seating is plentiful and comfortable, while the service is friendly. One added benefit that I have just discovered, is any drink purchased at Backstage coffee can be taken into the theaters to be enjoyed during your show (assuming they allow food and drink into whichever venue you're going to.) Definitely a place to frequent as often as you frequent the DCPA.

Had the spinach-feta croissant which was absolutely divine. I still dream of it! *sigh* The line was crazy long pre-show so I swung by after when the line was much calmer. I also had the zucchini cake which was also delicious. Will definitely stop by when I am in town.

The food and drinks here are delicious. The savory pastries come with a really delicious salad, which justifies their price if you are eating in. Wifi is available, but you'll have to ask for the password. The art gallery section is a great place to chill with your lunch/brunch/dinner, and they are pretty good about not rushing you out the door!

I stopped here before Dixie's Tupperwear Party and had just as much fun there as I did at the show. The person behind the counter was cracking jokes with us as well as the patrons that were there. It was a party before the actual party.

The people who work here are really friendly. And I love being right against the Denver Center of Performing Arts (one of the most beautiful blocks of Denver). But please get a heater. It was probably 60-65 degrees inside the coffee shop. I was shaking and actually had to leave to find somewhere warmer. I know this is a costly addition, but heat is a basic. Love the rest!

I nice little coffee shop, right in the heart of the DCPA complex. The drinks were cool,(it was a very hot day), and the employees were fast and friendly. And one of the best things about this location is the varied people you can watch, heading in or out of the Theater complex. Always something going on in there, it looks like a nice place to while away some time.

This is our go to spot when we're seeing a show and our schedule is such that we can't get downtown early enough before curtain to hit our other favorites on the 16th Street Mall, or the weather is too bad to wander around.. Good coffee and a nice selection of teas. Over the years we've tried just about all their different food choices. Not the absolute best in any category, but it's all very good. They do the best they can, but service can be a bit slow if they get busy.

We stopped in to kill time before heading to a burlesque show downtown. I am from Detroit, and am a bit of a coffee snob. I was SO excited to know that they served coconut lattes here. Delicious! Not a super fancy cafe, but definitely a nice place to relax while downtown.

For starters, I have always been warmly greeted here. During opera production I am here a lot. Very friendly. And I like the coffee. But the absolute best thing about Backstage is the fact that they serve this amazingly delicious vegan breakfast burrito. Definitely one of the best I have ever had. Warmed up on a plate just hand me a fork and stand back! YUM! I highly recommend this. Convenient, downtown location right at the Denver Performing Arts Center.

One Sunday morning after I had been partying all night in downtown, I craved for my daily coffee. Hangover miracle fix? No. I am just a coffee drinker that turns into a walking zombie without my daily caffeinated drink. I got my usual vanilla latte. I am always a little skeptical on how sweet coffee shops make my drink since it varies from one place to another. I raised my concern that I like my latte only with a hint of vanilla flavor rather than overpowered by vanilla syrup *cough* Starbucks *cough*. They quickly took notice. As my coffee was handed over, I was told that they will fix my coffee to match my taste. My half-awake consciousness registered. I took my first sip, and I was in heaven. I would give their coffee a 3/5 stars (since it didn't quite match the best I have had) but the service was unmatched by any other coffee shops I have been to. For that, I am giving Backstage Coffee a 4/5 for their incredible service and coffee.

I think if I were a local and spent more time here, I would probably really enjoy this place. We came here for a quick bite before our play started and apparently that was everyone else's idea. It's a small business that you have to pray and wrangle for a seat, but that's how the good places are right? Soup, sandwich and coffee for two for $20 not bad. The soup was really tasty, a vegan barley mushroom. And their coffee was really good. As a quick lunch grab it did the trick and we were pleased.

Floor to ceiling windows give this place lots of light! A few tables on an outdoor patio, this place is your basic cafe. I was fairly impressed with my pre-made saran-wrapped sandwich. It amazingly had some flavor which can't be said of most of its type... Friendly staff, clean, lots of selections. A quick fix if you are in the downtown area.

Stopped by on our way out of Comic Con this past Saturday afternoon. Left 3 passes with the two guys running the shop for my employee who had been anxiously waiting to get off work to go on her one and only day off. I couldn't stick around to give them to her myself, so I figured a place next door to The Performing Arts complex would probably be a common place for people to leave and pick up tickets. The event sold out at 12pm, so those passes where only ticket in. When she arrived they were gone and the two employees were gone as well. ...I even left them a tip! Bad, Bad Business Practice

This was an accidental find and so good! I wandered in while waiting for Matt to finish up at an interview. I ordered a small cappuccino and a raspberry pistachio biscotti. Both were delish! The foam was perfect and thick and creamy and the biscotti was soft enough to bite into without breaking teath and the flavor was a perfect sweetness. I wish i lived close enough to walk to this place because I think it would make a great place to read or surf the internet. It was good vibe and I'd like to go back if I'm down there again and have time to kill.

Tried this place for the first time today since I started my job just across the street. The coffee smells heavenly when you walk in the door. Had a ham and swiss croissant which was melt in your mouth yummy and came with a great side salad. Will be back and probably often! Everything looked so delicious - can't wait to try the scones. Very great friendly service as well. Anyone visiting the DCPA (Denver Center for Performing Arts) and needs a quick bite should try this place!

Yeah, I have been in Denver how for 3 1/2 weeks - have stopped here many mornings - though very warmly greeted - most of the time the cook is not there when they open - somethimes the coffee is not made and MANY times they are out of most items in the case to eat.

It is a wonderful little coffee shop! It is a great place to spot by before a show. They have a few beers and fun cocktails! I also love going there on my way to work to get my coffee fix! The ceiling to floor windows are fantastic not only because it's nice to be able to enjoy natural light once in a while but you can zone out and people watch. The crowd in late morning are typically people typing away on their laptop or chatting with a friend, and it is nice change from other coffee shops where people are barking on their phones.

One of Denver's best coffee houses. Now that they have expanded it's almost always possible to get a table, even if you're here on a show night. All baked goods are made on the premises, and man does it smell good in the morning.

This place serves up a good cup of joe. I think it's better than Ink, actually. The foam on my latte was perfectly done, and it was nice and hot. Lots of drinks options to choose from, and the staff is nice. Cool vibe and good downtown location.
