BBQ pork banh mi for $3 is pretty hard to beat

I came to the southwestern part of the city which is also known for being a beacon for Chinese, Mexican, and Vietnamese cuisines. There seems to be an abundance of reviewers who swear by this banh mi joint, so I decided to drop in to get a couple of sandwiches for the afternoon. The layout was clean, spacious and well lit. It started with a counter selling pre-packaged spring rolls and snacks with photo menu in the background listing a nice selection of banh mi and fresh juices. Adding to the array of knickknacks are fresh coconut milk waffles that looked delicious and a few froyo dispensers stacked across the counter. Even though Lollicup is only next door, this seemed to be the go-to place for sweets and fast food that many argued carries a legit banh mi in Denver. I order a Combination Banh Mi ($2.75) that came with a skimpy mix of cold cuts with pate unevenly distributed across the warm flaky baguette. The baguette was very impressive as it had just the right thickness and crisp when served warm but soft without becoming chewy once the temperature dwindles. The mix of cold cuts was rather limiting and could be more robust; and the pate could be more generous in exchange for the mayo which made it unexpectedly creamy. The pickled radishes and carrots were very good, and the added jalapeno peppers and cilantro made it a decent fresh sandwich which I still prefer over a footlong. I also ordered a Chicken Banh Mi ($2.75) for a friend who said the sandwich really hit the spot. Service was fast, friendly, and efficient. Value-wise, their banh mi could have been excellent if they were to drastically improve on the fillings. I'd be interested in coming back to try their other sandwiches and grab a cup of fresh squeezed sugar cane juice along the way. The experience was authentic, but not worth the hype.

I absolutely love this place! I have had my fair share of Banh Mi sandwiches in LA and in Viet nam. These might be the best I've had... love the bread, warm, fresh, crunchy crust. The ingredients are top quality and the taste is awesome- the right combination of everything inside the sandwich. The people are nice, the sandwich is $3, and you wait only a minute or two. Quick, easy, and DELICIOUS!!

I love Denver. I can get all my "quick hits" from Bam Mi, or Tortas, or really strong Pho. I don't have to drive 1hr30minutes for all this great food (yeah, I moved from Connecticut. . .NY great, but its a drive from CT) Coming from the Denver Tech Center area and heading to the Children's museum (you could exchange that destination for Aquarium, Zoo, or whatever). We picked up the Ban Mi's at about 9:30am on a Sunday (love Asian store hours). The two items (Vietnamese BBQ Pork, and Vietnamese BBQ Beef) were $3.00 each. Tell you the truth, I could of had a little more food (maybe a side dish or something next time?). . . but the sandwiches were the perfect size (and we ended up splitting the sandwiches 3-ways). The sandwiches tasted great nearly 2hrs later, and a lot better food than anything available at the museum. Tasty Ban Mi goodness. Is it the best? I dunno. . .I'll try more places. Almost as good as 163 in Boston (my only comparison) On a side note, sandwiches can be slightly spicy on some bites - but not so much that it would scare a 2year old. Cucumber, fish sauce, cilantro, french Baguette type of sandwich with a 2.5 year old toddler. The little guy has more adventure on his palette by the time he hit 3 than I had until college (or past college). . . and he loves Ban Mi! Oh, and he loved the Mango yogurt drink, but it was a little sweet for my tastes. . .

Try the green waffles!! They are made with rice flour, which lends it subtle differences from american waffles. The inside is more glutenous and contrasts sharply with the extra crispy exterior. I forget the name of the flavoring (phan duong?? phan dan??). The banh mi is great too.

If I were only rating on value this would be an easy 5. The french baguette was very fresh (still warm from the oven), crispy outside, soft inside. They used like 6 veggies and herbs, all fresh. The price was 3.25 for a bahn mi sandwich. I'd pay 5 for that any day. There are two perhaps unfair reasons I give it 4 stars. 1-Location...in "Vietnamtown" Denver. Aka, a ghetto local on the fringe of town in a beat down strip mall. 2-Poor ambiance, Viet-pop on the tv and a run down decor. But at 3 bucks 25 per delicious (sizable) sandwich I'm getting picky.

  • Anthony N.

Cheap is good, especially in this day in age, but even at a mere $3 for a sandwich, I expect a little more than a couple scrimpy pieces of meat slapped on to a boring French bun. I don't consider myself a connoisseur of banh mi sandwiches by any means (even though I grew up eating them almost every other day back in California), but I can definitely recognize cheap toppings when I taste it. If someone can bite into a sandwich and taste nothing but bread, that's another big red flag. You can easily get by with a $5 lunch, but sadly, you can probably still get more bang for the buck at McD's.

I love places like this! Small, hole in the wall places where you are guaranteed a solid meal. My hubs and I went with friends and we each tried a different sandwich. I tried the Vietnamese pork and the hubs tried the chicken. One friend tried the Korean pork and the other the meatball. We all agreed that the sandwich was well worth the $3 per but we all agreed we'd pay a little more for more protein!

Denver is so lucky to have Ba Le Sandwiches!!! For only $3 you can get the best bahn mi around and it's always fresh and simply perfect! Get the #2.

  • Kathleen A.

Best $3 one can spend on a lunch. Bahn mi is very intriguing. It's vietnamese food. On French bread. And it works...very well. Decided to stop in with Hans after a day at the pool. I let him order for me, so we got the grilled pork sandwich. They need to be a bit bigger since I was still starving or maybe next time just order 2. This is a grab n go kinda place. No tables to eat or anything. We went next door to Lollicup for a boba tea and ate them there.

More than likely, there is a better place in Denver to get your banh mi. I've patronized this place a few times, and each time I have never been pleased with the service. The sandwiches are ok but in fact I feel like they never are happy to serve me-- granted i understand that they aren't selling smiles, but it isnt pleasant to purchase items from scowling people behind the counter who assume I do not speak Vietnamese.

Umm, yeah. $2.75 for a sandwich? I'm there. There were 15 different kinds of sandwiches. I got the sardine, since fish is the only kind of meat I eat. It was actually the right amount of sardines for me, since sardines have a strong flavor. All sandwiches come with their veggie "salad" a mix of onions, carrots, etc in a vinegar base with slight spice. The veggies add the right texture and flavor to the sandwich. The baguette was so good! Crusty on the outside, chewy in the center, so fresh. I got him the the BBQ pork, he enjoyed it. Though not very much meat. He called it a good "snack." I say bring them home and make a salad and you have a filling meal. They also have some Vietnamese drinks, some ice cream priced by the ounce and some canned beverages. No tables, just chairs against the window. For less than $3, there's not much to complain about. Another hit with a restaurant in a strip mall on Federal! I think it was a $5 min on credit card.

After just returning from a trip to Cali, I was determined to find a place in CO that served these type of sandwiches. Of course, I turned to Yelp. So I took a little hour drive down there today for a sandwich. I could only justify driving an hour for a sandwich if I bought lots of them...you know, to stalk up for my two days off. I decided on four different ones, the special and three different type of bbq ones. Oh was I disappointed. I took a few bites out of each and decided I did not like this place. The bread was good, hence the two stars. But everything else was not appetizing. One of the so called bbq pork ones looked like ground up taco meat. My fellow Yelpers...please help me find another place that sells these type of sandwiches!

  • Mike L.

I guess it's hard to complain about a three dollar sandwich, but I think I'm over this place. It's sort of the subway of Bahn Mi for me (no pun intended). Aloof service, not very flavorful ingredients is my main gripe. I had the pate and a grilled pork and they just fell flat for me. I prefer Vinh Xuong, one because the lady is super nice and helpful, and the sandwiches don't feel like they have been made on an assembly line. But like I stated it's 3 bucks so whatever.

Just wanted to give you all a readable menu: #1 Sour Pork #2 Vietnemese BBQ Pork #3 Special Combo #4 Grilled Chicken #5 Pork Meatloaf (Pork Roll) #6 Meatball #7 Shredded Pork Skin #8 BBQ Meatball #9 Grilled Beef #10 Chinese BBQ Pork #11 Pate #12 Grilled Shrimp Paste (they are always out of this) #13 Ham #14 Chicken #15 Sardine This place is amazing... #2 and #3 are our personal favorites!

Excellent Vietnamese sandwiches. The French bread tastes fresh. I like both the BBQ pork sandwich and the meatball sandwich. And the sandwiches are phenomenally cheap! The neighbourhood is shady, but I'm not afraid of driving there in the daytime.

This is not a restaurant ~ you get your sandwiches To-Go OR... they have a row of chairs by the windows ~ you can sit there and eat your sandwich like I do lol. All sandwiches $2.75 ~ $3! There's a variety of meat to choose from. I just really dig the price. Be careful tho, the pickle stuff they put in the sandwich... something in there is super spicy ~ it always catches me off guard and I just dont know what the spicy part is (if I did I'd pick it out and save myself from a few spicy tears). They also have Asian style frozen yogurt. When I say Asian style fro-yo, I mean the equivalent to Pink Berry and Yogurtland in the west coast. The icy and not too sweet type of frozen yogurt with toppings to choose from. The Fro-yo here is alright. It's the best that I can find in Denver. It's kinda expensive tho ~ 45 cents/ounce. I always get just a little bit and it would cost me $3-4. What is up with that when a tiny bit of fro-yo cost more than your long warm Vietnamese sandwich??? Moreover, the fro-yo shops in California dont include the weight of the container cup when they charge you. It's mandated by the law because that cost should be included in your price per ounce already. I think this place does include the weight of the containers when they charge you tho. Moreover, they always put the spoon and the lid onto your fro-yo before they type into the register... this seems shady!! You're charging the weight of the cup + the lid + the spoon onto the already expensive fro-yo... hmmm... if the sandwiches werent so good, I'd deduct to 3 stars because of the fro-yo experience. lol PS: No vegetarian sandwiches here! The Vietnamese sandwich shops in California would have soy meat for the vegetarians... not this place tho! :(

With apologies to Martyn Bates, "Ba Le is a curl to the lips of a / Hardened heart / Emptied out of warmth". A day without a Vietnamese sandwich is truly a bummer, so what better way to scratch the itch than a trip down Federal to this standing-room-only shop? On my last visit, I got away cheaply (still $3 or less each!) but amply, with one smoky, salty Sardine (Ca Moi, option 15) and one charmingly-titled Sour Pork (Nem, option 1) which in fact is nowhere near as astringent as its name might suggest, and is instead lustrous and luscious. Enjoy the crunchy, tangy daikon and carrot slaw on top, but watch for those peppers - they'll sneak up on you! (Or am I just old?) Don't forget the cooler full of Che (umbrella term for a myriad of Vietnamese desserts). If you are new to these, I suggest starting with Che Ba Mau (three-color [red bean/yellow mung bean/green jelly] pudding) and working your way down the shelves! Oh yea, as my LOLcats would say, they haz yogurt too.

Sunday morning is my favorite time to pick up breakfast and lunch at Ba Le Sandwiches. One reason is because one of the most beautiful ladies in the city works Sunday morning. I really love the Banh Mi too. The number 2 Vietnamese pork is my favorite. FOR A BUCK MORE YOU CAN GET EXTRA MEAT AND IT'S WORTH IT! However, some of the items may not suite the American palate. However, the Vietnamese beef, chicken, meatball sandwiches are all great. The bread is the best french bread in the city. It would make a good poboy if used for one back home. I eat here 2-3 times a week and always will even if the stunningly beautiful young lady is no longer there to make my Sunday start so well. P.S. Another reviewer stated that the staff is "rude". That is pure bullshit. I respond very aggressively to rude restaurant service staff. I have never felt the need to do so at Ba Le.

So Dan and I decide to go on a bus adventure from Boulder to S. Federal to see what we can see. Really, we're aiming for Ba Le Sandwiches, because my bahn mi craving is getting way out of hand and it needs satiating now! I'm looking out the bus window though, and, I swear, as far as I can tell, pretty much every restaurant Yelpers rave about is sitting there on the same street! Pho 95, Star Kitchen, a smattering of taco stands... the only thing S. Federal needs is Biker Jim's hot dogs and it'd be swarming with Yelpers constantly. After a short conference we decide that we can't pass up this opportunity to hit as many restaurants on this golden street as possible. We decide to split a Ba Le sandwich, then head over to Star Kitchen for a few choice offerings, then to Pho 95 for some hopefully yummy pho. Even though we split just one sandwich (#2, Vietnamese BBQ Pork), that was enough for me to lament the fact that there's isn't a Ba Le right next door to my house. For $2.75, you can bet I'd be going next door all the time to make one of their delicious sandwiches a meal. Even though, by my standards, I'd normally call Ba Le skimpy on the fillings and heavy on the bread, I actually have to say that with the strong Vietnamese vegetables and herbs, it works that way. If there were less bread, I think the flavor would be overwhelming. There's so much cilantro and these huge pieces of jalapeño, plus the pickled daikon and the carrots and the strong spiced flavor of the pork... I think less bread would set your mouth on fire. I do, however, wish that there was more meat, and that they put that mayonnaissy spread on the sandwiches. But how can I really complain at that price? These sandwiches are a perfect representation of what I love about the Vietnamese way of flavoring. All of the vegetables they choose are strong, yet they don't overwhelm or overpower each other. They exist as a delineated whole, a complementary mass whose tastes linger in your mouth completely independent of one another. That's what makes me crave bahn mi above and beyond all other sandwiches. Even though bahn mi are nothing more than subs with wholly familiar vegetables and meats, they have something when you put them all together that isn't quite familiar or quite replicable.

Today I visited Ba Le and it was so delicious ! On a 100* day a sandwich was the way to go for lunch. I ordered the #2 BBQ pork, #3 special combo and #4 chicken with coconut juice and soybean drink. I enjoyed portions from all three sandwiches and followed it up by refreshing coconut juice. The rest I will enjoy later! The service was fast and accurate. And the portions were ample and tasted very traditional like my Mom would make it. Definitely recommend it to all... Enjoy !!! Cheers :-)

It's pretty hard to find fault with a sandwich made on a fresh, hot baguette, filled with fresh veggies and chicken, for $2.75. Not to mention that they don't slather the thing in mayo or cheese; they let the ingredients speak for themselves. And let me tell you, they had a lot to say. Definitely come here hungry- you will leave very happy. I know they don't have vegetarian alternatives- but as a previous vegetarian for 6 years, that's the kind of thing that we Coloradans are jaded about.

I've been here 3 or 4 times now and don't think I'm going to stop anytime soon. This is a repeat of what a lot of reviews have said already, but it's true and what's important to me when getting bahn mi: -$3 for a sandwhich -delicious French bread -fast service The staff might not ask you how your day was, but they have never been rude to me. Purely efficient and I have no problem with that, especially when the food put out is delicious. As for the size, no the sandwiches aren't huge, but they are a decent size. I get 2 and pay, wait for it (2 x$3, carry the 7...), $6! If that's too expensive for a tasty meal, it's probably time to try cooking something at home, in my opinion. Can't wait to make it back out there...

Ordered a meatball banh mi and a thit nuong banh mi. I think they're just slightly better than Vinh Xuong's. I think I'll eventually have to do a side to side comparison.

Had my first Ba Le experience last Sunday. I had my hopes pretty high after having a number of delicious banh mi in New York City. I enjoyed it (but not up to my previous banh mi experiences, I am sad to note) and the price cannot be beat. I tried two sandwiches based on reviews - the BBQ pork and the pate. The BBQ pork was very good and when I bit into it in the parking lot, the baguette was crispy and warm. Definitely added to the enjoyment. I tried the pate one later - when the baguette was cool - and did not enjoy it as much. Would go again, but with a little bit of a lowered expectation. It's very good, but I think you always remember your first Banh Mi and that's a hard memory to live up to.

I haven't stopped thinking about Ba Le Sandwiches since we grabbed a bite there last week. Today we split a Sour Pork Meat ($3. Not bad but not very much flavor. Very mild generic "meaty" taste. Dunno what was sour about it), a Grilled Shrimp Paste ($3.50. Not a paste at all - more of a firm, slightly fishy-tasting mystery meat (or, as Doug Y. more accurately described it, "shrimp baloney.") I thought it was pretty ok but not something I would ever crave), and a BBQ Pork ($2.75. Super chewy, fatty meat. Again, not much flavor. My least favorite of everything I've tried so far). I enjoyed everything well enough (especially the pickled carrots and radish. Oh my god, those suckers are delicious!) but the pate is definitely the way to go imo. I bought just less than a pound of their house pate for $6.25!

Since a Vietnamese friend introduced me to his people's sandwiches 15 years ago, I have loved them ever since. I've tried many Vietnamese sandwiches from many places, but this place left me slightly disappointed. First of all, the sandwiches are pretty small. I'm a petite gal, and I had to eat 2 of them to feel remotely full. The meat fillings are unnecessarily small, too. For the meatball sandwich, it was like only 1/2 a meatball was used to spread around the entire sandwich. The deli pork sandwich only had 1 thin slice of pork meat. Maybe I should be thankful that they gave me 2, and not 1, sprigs of cilantro in my sandwich. Wow, the generosity. Their baguettes do have a nice crispy crust, which curb a carb craving beautifully. Ba Le Sandwiches, please give me more substance. This girl is hungry. 1 star off: their sandwiches are for midgets 1 star off: Geez, do I have to twist someone's arm...or those cilantro sprigs...to get a little more fillin' in my sandwich?

  • Caroline F.

Mmmm.... the bahn mi sandwich. Possibly my favorite in the sandwich universe. I got the #3- a delicious combination of pork, pate, mayo, and an array of pickled vegetables, jalapenos, and cilantro on fresh baguette. YUM. This place doesn't have the best bahn mi I've ever eaten, but they're still very good. And at $3 per sandwich, you really can't go wrong. My only complaint is that it wasn't spicy enough for me- I had to apply quite a bit of siracha when I got home. Next time I'll ask for extra jalapenos!

I love Banh Mi sandwiches, and Ba Le is one of the best in Colorado. Their bread, meat, and fresh vegetables rival my East Coast Banh Mi shops in NYC, DC/Nova, and Philly! Good services, quick and freshly made sandwiches at affordable prices are always a welcoming site there!

The BBQ-Pork sandwich is to die for. Rude Staff, but typical for a good Vietnamese shop.

Ordered the Viet Pork, the Chinese Pork, and the Beef. Perfect baguettes, great mix of radish, carrot, cilantro, and meats, I just would have liked a little more Pate spread on the bread. Super hot inside the store, but they had a little a/c unit blasting near one of the doors. Their Fro-Yo machines were off for the season according to the sign, but it was at least 80 degrees outside. The price is just right at 2.75-3.50 depending on the sandwich. I could eat two if I was really hungry, but I split the third sandwich with a friend so we didn't feel like piggies. Eat lots of the sandwiches. Take them home by the bagful.

I went on a quest for the best Banh Mi in Denver, and tried at least a dozen different places over the course of 2 months before coming to the conclusion that Ba Le is by far the best Banh Mi in the city. They bake their own bread, which is so good I'll go out of my way to get some when I make prime rib or meatball sandwiches at home. The staff is always friendly and the prices are ridiculously reasonable. I always get the #2, Viet BBQ pork and the g/f (who doesn't eat red meat) gets the sardine. While there make sure to try the spring rolls as well. They recently got rid of the froyo machines and put some bistro tables in, so now you won't have to sit in your car while enjoying your sandwich. The only thing I would suggest is that they stock some diet soda, for some reason they only have the unleaded stuff in the cooler, although their selection of iced tea is good.

This is one of those places you keep coming back to after the first time of trying it. Though it may not be as popular but I do like how everything is rather cheap. Those sandwiches are rather scrumptious when looking for something appetizing. Seems like you could make these at home. I think people who don't follow the menu and get upset at obscure requests shouldn't have the privilege of eating here. Just shut up and eat your sandwich. I would recommend this to all who are open to new foods.

  • Alex C.

Oh Ba Le, what would I do without you? Screw Subway $5 footlongs, come here, order two sandwiches for $6 or under and marvel at the awesomeness. Just don't get the chicken... as another reviewer said it looks canned which is probably enough to scare most away. I, ever the intrepid trooper, tried the chicken. It reminds me of the Thai tubes of meat, except sliced thin. I was expecting some breast strips grilled. It wasn't bad, but there are much better options. The other fillings are awesome, I especially love the generous helping of sliced jalapeno. Try getting these fillings at Quiznos. And then there is the bread. Yes, it will demolish both the roof and floor of your mouth. However, this is the initiation ritual into the glory that is Ba Le bahn mi. Call it... sandwich hazing. Trust me, it's worth it. And, eat enough of them and you will hardly notice anymore. Go here, unless you're going to complain that your mouth hurts, then keep going to Subway... Ba Le doesn't need you.

Normally I've been quite fond of Ba Le Sandwiches; however my past experience has led me to never come back here. First I'll say their sandwiches are pretty tasty but if a tasty sandwich is at the expense of an awful experience I'd prefer elsewhere. I recently visited this sandwich shop just a few days ago. We arrived at 7:30PM and took note that they did not close until 8PM. It was the beau's 2nd time here and wanting to try something different we took a little longer to peruse the options and therefore allowed the family behind us to order. While the family ahead of us was ordering and chatting with the staff; I became utterly put off when I overheard the cashier ask her co-worker (or sandwich maker for lack of a better term) to announce to me and my boyfriend that they had "run out of sandwiches" (all of this talk had been spoken in Vietnamese). When the sandwich maker told me in English that they "were out of sandwiches" I quickly responded, "Are you really out of sandwiches or did she just ask you to say that?". She then very begrudgingly asked me, "Well how many sandwiches do you need?" as if I were posing an inconvenience to your business for wanting five sandwiches??? She began taking my order and in the process blatantly walked away. I could continue with how they're service was below mediocre at best but the significance of this post is to note that not only did I feel discriminated against, but so did my boyfriend. The fact that they planned to lie to me about not having sandwiches AND did actually lie to my face is inexcusable, hurtful and unfair. I'm lucky I speak and understand Vietnamese! Imagine what they're lying about to you, my non-Vietnamese friend...

I came here looking for a great banh mi sandwich and was sadly disappointed. Perhaps that's what I should expect for $3. I ordered the chicken bahh mi and had to actually lift the bread of the sandwich to verify whether or not meat had been added. It looked like they scrapped what was left of some canned chicken (or, God forbid, a can of cat food) and through it onto the bun. Chicken aside, the rest of the sandwich was actually pretty decent. Good bread, nice kim chi and a dash of cliantro. But when the centerpiece of the sandwich looks like something which should be fed to a dog, it doesn't matter how nice the accompaniments are. I think next time I'll just buy some kim chi here and make my own sandwich at home.

I can't imagine finding a better bahn mi or Vietnamese iced coffee in Denver. The bread is so fresh, sometimes tastes like it came out of the oven 30 seconds ago. At $3, the sardine bahn mi is my favorite cheap eat in the city. Just watch out in the parking lot. Witnessed one accident and I could very easily foresee being part of one. But for this food I will take the risk.

Awwww Man! I can't believe I was disappointed! How the heck? Everyone gives them such good reviews, all the yelpers I follow and respect. I found the sandwiches on the puny side, with not enough filling. When I can't see the meat and veg busting out the side, it's not enough, It was warm. But I don't know if the bread was warm from being fresh, or heated. someone says they buy they bread from another place, so I'm guessing it was heated. I had to ask about the sammys, I was craving pate and head cheese, but I don't think my #3 special combo had any head cheese. The minimum order on a debit card was $5 so I also ordered a #10 Chinese BBQ pork for my husband. I wish I had looked around first, I wanted to order some of the food on the trays as you walked in, but the girl at the counter seemed impatient, and other customers started walking in. I got flustered and only ordered the sandwiches. The warmth of the sandwich was a turn off, and there just didn't seem to be enough "taste". But you know me..... I ate the whole thing anyway. I kept waiting for the "taste" to kick in. Then I stole a bite from my hubby's sandwich to see if it was any better. It wasn't. (he ate the whole thing though, proclaiming "not bad" after grilling me on the ingredients--he thinks I'll feed him weird stuff if he doesn't check it out. He's right though, I will.) ***Now here is where the review becomes one about POM--Pacific Ocean Market. I was heading up to Broomfield anyway, so I debated stopping at POM for ANOTHER Banh Mi. Yes, No, Yes, No.... I can be such a stubborn piggy sometimes. I justified it by needing rice noodles. I got the #11. It was brimming with meat, and daikon, and cilantro, along with all the other good stuff. Full and bursting, it was. Finally satisfied with the best banh mi. I'll stick with Vinh Xuong Bakery when I'm down by Ba Le.

Bang for your buck! This place is consistent about what they serve, from Vietnamese sandwiches, sugar cane juice, Vietnamese cold meats and even fro-yo! I've tried their bahn mi sandwiches, grilled beef and char siu, both pretty good, what makes it for me it's the bread, crispy on the outside and soft in the inside, filled with flavor, a nice base of pate, pickled veggies (daicon and carrots), fresh bunches of cilantro, sliced jalapeño, choice of meat, and a hint of fish sauce, very nice sandwich, and for $3 even better! I'm not crazy about their fro-yo, had Taro and the flavor was a bit of for me, not sweet enough and a slight bitter taste to it; although their toppings were super good, mostly Asian favorites, from water chestnuts, mochi, longans, through preserved fruits... Service is super friendly, menu is layout very good with nice big pictures, and this place is very clean!

great sandwiches. My favorite is the combination with an assortment of meats and pate. So delicious and so cheap. The coffee is also really good, but a bit more expensive. Tiny little spot, but great for taking the sandwiches to go.

Wow, I found myself coming back to this place since my habitual banh mi and sugar cane juice place was closed Mondays. Should have never came back. You people are rude and extremely cheap. I stopped here before I went to go pick up my son from school; so I usually get my sugar cane drink with ice on the side because my son loves sugar cane juice and I didn't want the ice to water down the sugar cane. You know what she snobbishly said? "We don't do that" so I asked her to just put it in a little plastic bag, again, "no!" .... At this point I decided to offer to pay for ice ( my son has practice after school so I couldn't just go home and add ice, in case you're wondering) ok I know you measure out how many ounce per cup, so keep it like that without ice, it's not rocket science. So after I offered to pay then she uncomfortably agreed. Honestly at this point I dont want it anymore. I wouldn't be so angry if she had been nice about it, but she was rude from the moment I walked in. So at this point they had already made my banh mi and sugar cane, but I didn't want it. So I paid and gave it to the homeless man out front. I had no appetite for such stupidity. And don't worry my son still got food and a drink , but from Panera Bread instead =P. As for Ba Le, GOODBYE.

This place smelled weird-like rotten food-but we still got a couple sandwiches because of all the good reviews. Now I'm at home & I can't bring myself to eat either (Pork & Chicken) because they both smell like rotten food. Too bad.

Would someone please tell me what Yum Yum flavored frozen yogurt is? I'm curious. Other than the mysteriously named yogurt flavor, Ba Le hits you with some pretty straight foward offerings of banh mi and fro-yo. The banh mi is standard, cheap and delicious. Good bread really does the trick. With plenty of options plus a picture menu board, this is a great place to start if you are new to banh mi. Ba Le's selection of fro-yo is worth a visit on its own. The plain fro-yo comes with a potent tanginess that was previously associated with regular yogurt, but is now becoming in vogue across new fro-yo shops. For something a little different, hit up the taro flavor. In fact, if you can get anything taro flavored - try it! I must advise to watch out. The fro-yo is charged by weight and an unsuspecting rookie could get hit with a heavy tab.

After reading the past reviews, I was excited to give this place a try...a new passion in life is finding the ultimate Banh Mi sandwich. Be Le has perhaps the best bread I've had on a sandwich ever...so good! I went with the Chinese BBQ Banh Mi and was very impressed...by far the best I have had in Colorado! The service was perfect...very nice and quick...I live in Colorado Springs and I've been tempted to drive up to Denver just to get a few Banh Mi's from Be Le...don't miss out! Great place!

Always a great place to re-visit. Wasn't rocked by the chicken or shrimp paste like I'm rocked by the bbq pork, but ya know what . . . even their fillings that aren't your favorites deserve 5 stars. Still the best lunch deal in Denver.

I was watching Food Network's Great Food Truck Race a couple years back and was intrigued by the Nom Nom truck's bahn mi sandwiches. After looking at a few reviews, we decided to try this place. The sandwiches are great! Many people complain that they have less meat, and while I agree they are not necessarily packed like another place we tried, the flavors are all there and they come through nicely. We usually get either the combination or grilled beef bahn mis. The other location that we tried the sandwiches was at Baker's Palace down on Federal, and I still seem to like this place better for some reason!

Best damn 3 dollar sandwich I have ever had. It's like a Vietnamese Subway! Picture menu and all! I asked them what was on the Special Sandwich. I didn't understand everything she said, but I heard "head cheese" and went for it. I'm glad I did. It was... Well, you know. I picked up two more sandwiches to go, because mine was fantastic and I wanted my wife to try one. I split the barbecued pork with her later than afternoon and it was awesome too. My wife had the meatball for dinner and she said it was just as good. I can't wait to go back and try the pork pate and many of the other offerings... I'm curious about the shrimp paste and even the sardine sandwich... "Enjoy every sandwich." -Warren Zevon-

Picked up a few sandwiches to bring to the Rockies game. Perfectly sized for me to eat three (I was starving) but two would have been plenty. Had the pate, shrimp paste and vietnamese pork. All were good, but if I only have two next time, it will be the pork and pate unless I try some other flavors. With all of the great places to eat in Denver, why are they still opening Subway and Quizno's shops? Come on people, time to venture out and try some new places. For my money Ba Le is authentic Vietnamese sandwiches, with good and fresh ingredients served by nice people. It was funny to see the two ladies watch me as I pulled up to the front on my Harley and leathers and walk in. We all got a good laugh out of that. And the best part? The sandwich is perfectly sized so that you can hold it in your right hand while catching a Todd Helton foul ball in your left hand without dropping your sandwich. How do I know? I just do.

I've been in here once, ironically immediately after eating at Pho 95 since they're in the same strip mall. I ordered the BBQ Pork to go, which I didn't realize until way too late that it was redundant to order anything to go. After all, they don't have any tables or wait staff. The sandwiches are tasty and inexpensive, although in the sandwich the ratio of everything else to bread is a little low and it makes me wonder if you should order 2 sandwiches and just eat a lot of bread or have one and have it be a kind of big snack. I like the self-serve frozen yogurt setup so I am determined that once I'm actually warm again and in the mood for frozen yogurt I'll have this place at the top of my list to stop in.

Had never tried banh mi before but have been reading about it everywhere, and this seemed to be the place to go. It's obviously not a place you go to for the atmosphere but it was very good and incredibly cheap. The baguettes have the perfect combination of crunch outside and pillowy softness inside and are always warm. They have so many options and you order by number/picture on the menu. I wasn't that adventurous my first time I got the barbecue pork and the I think the sliced beef? The barbecue pork was excellent, faintly sweetish with the spicy pickled vegetables, cilantro, and jalapenos. I loved it but I kind of wanted it spicier, like with a huge dash of Sriracha on it. The beef one was....weird, and not in a good way. It had a gelatinous texture and a weird aftertaste that was really artificial. I wouldn't get it again. I didn't try the frozen yogurt but I definitely will next time, if I can ever get a friend to drive all the way out there with me.

I really like this place, it's open early which makes it a good pit-stop to pick up food to-go before I start my day. Some people get coffee for breakfast, I go and get my Banh-Mi. Sometimes I also go to the Lollicup nearby and get my Milk Tea Latte. I pretty much order every sandwich on the menu and I am satisfied with it. A couple things that prevents me from giving them a 5 out of 5 stars is that my boyfriend got food poisoning from them once. Being as how I have a stomach of steel, I didn't get food poisoning, so I still come back for more... but he avoids that place completely now. Also, the prices are a little expensive. $3 versus the $2.50 back from where I'm from.. but oh well. And the customer service isn't that great... but hey, it's Vietnamese people, I wouldn't expect any better anyways. Oh and the parking lot could be a torture..... be careful on your way in and out...

    (4)
  • Heidi S.

Step on the gas and drive right by Subway or Quiznos or Bob's Big Belly Busters and stop here. For $2.50 a sandwich you get a perfectly baked baguette with various meats and super fresh veggies - not a lot of either but hey, it is $2.50. The BBQ pork was good, the meatball was very good, the Shrimp was interesting. I was bummed because I had ordered the pate and got the shrimp - maybe I said the wrong number, no worries, now I have an excuse to go back.

I'm moving soon, and I usually bribe friends or family to help with the promise of pizza and beer. But this time, I'm giving them a bag full of Ba Le's sandwiches! My friends may have no idea what they are, but I'm positive it won't stop them from helping themselves to seconds. Ba Le is your answer to a cheap, delicious and quick meal. All of the ingredients are so fresh and the flavors are truly unique. I love the grilled steak and the meatball sandwiches, the BBQ pork ones are kind of bland in comparison. I had a bottle of Sriracha on hand in case I hit blandsville (and who am I kidding, I usually dump it on everything anyway), but these delicious little suckers didn't need it (okay, I may have put a squirt or two on, just in case). I look forward to grabbing a bunch of these for summer picnics or bribing my friends into moving heavy objects for me.

    (4)
  • Cindy C.

I'm not too crazy about this place. The sandwiches that they make aren't even authentic. I came here looking for a Vietnamese Sandwich! The meats they use in their sandwiches are completely different! The sandwiches next door at Lollicup are wayyyyy better. Trust me!

    (2)
  • Lacey M.

Yes, the sandwiches here are super cheap, making this a really great lunch spot. I stopped by one Saturday afternoon and grabbed 4 different ones for a picnic with my hubby and his friend. We tried both of the BBQ pork ones, meatball, and grilled steak. Overall, I thought they were just okay. A couple of them had a fishy taste (possibly fish sauce?) which i didn't care for. The meatball had a rubbery texture, but the steak was very good. The bread was perfect, and I loved the jalapeno's! A couple of them did have a little too much cilantro. I will probably be back at some point, because I definitely want to try their frozen yogurt! There was like 8 different flavors, and lots of yummy toppings. However, if I choose to get a sandwich, I will just stick with the steak.

  • Sally M.

I went here because I had cravings for banh mi during a trip to Denver. I tried the barbeque pork and grilled chicken sandwiches. The bread and veggies were tasty, but the meat was too little and blander than expected. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't sell much else, like Vietnamese desserts and baguettes.

    (3)
  • Kyla A.

Delicious sandwiches for sooo cheap! My personal favorite is the grilled pork. I often get my sandwiches there to go, and I would recommend asking to get the veggies on the side. The bread is warm and delicious, and the meat is so flavorful, and nothing makes me happier than adding cilantro to that. Such a good deal and pretty darn tasty. Ba Le sandwiches are a steal!

  • Tran L.

One star for yummmmmmmy and cheap sandwiches. Second star for convenience. Driving wise, it's much safer to get in and out versus Baker's Palace. Third star for the Pate. Less saltier and my type than Baker's Palace. Two stars deducted for each of the workers there. They seem to treat the younger generation of Vietnamese like we're crap. I'm self-conscious about speaking Vietnamese with strangers right off the bat and when I do, it's kind of butchered. But I try my best. Multiple times I go in there, I'm NEVER greeted with a "Hi"- just a rude look. Either I look cheap (at $3.00 a sandwich for lunch, really? I'm not going to feed my whole office), or I'm bothering them with my service by speaking English. And the funny thing is, I don't think they know I'm Vietnamese and that I can understand it. Anyways, same thing happened to my cousins and sister. Just treated rudely.

I have had the Special Combo, the Meatball, and both of the barbecue pork Bahn Mi, and let me tell you: they are all stellar! Each of the meats is tasty and delicious and every time the pickled veggies have been perfect. The whole thing is a near perfect representation of what food should be. The baguette is crispy on the outside, and pillowy tender inside, and fresh as... well, it's really fresh. The meat is fresh and flavorful, and the veggies tie everything together with a subtly sweet yet tangy taste. Each time that I've been, I've gone in hungry, thinking that I could eat a dozen of these tasty morsels. Each time I've left having eaten just one, and left perfectly satisfied. The perfect portion for $2.75- it just can't be beat!

Delicious, fresh, wonderful. Wish they had more seating though.

  • Arlyn C.

Not really sure what all the hype is about. Ordered the #3, 9, and 10. It's a good portion, but the flavor's are nothing special. The meat wasn't authentic, nor was the pickled veggies I always look forward to. (In fact, gave the boyfriend the runs...) I mean, for the price, it's great, and if you've never had real vietnamese sandwhiches before, it's fine. Just expected alot more considering I was going to an "authentic" neighborhood.

Had a chance to try the sandwiches @ Ba Le several times now ... The BBQ Pork (#2 Vietnamese style) is my favorite... My friends like the Steak (#9). I think these are actually better than Bakers Palace up the street... (550 S Federal Boulevard).... This place rocks! By the way, this place is in a DINGY strip center. It would be easy to miss it.

  • Annette R.

Fantastic. Went there for dinner tonight after reading the reviews here. I am used to bahn mi being really small so my boyfriend and I got two each. We each got the #2 (vietnamese pork) and he got the #10 (chinese style pork) and I picked up a #14 (sliced chicken and pate, I believe). They were both wonderful although we agreed that the #2 was far superior to our other choices. The sweet smoky pork contrasted with the spicy jalapenos is just out of this world delicious. As it turns out, the sandwiches here at Ba Le are not nearly as small as what I am used to, but they were SO delicious (and neither one of us had eat yet today) that we gorged ourselves and finished them anyway! 4 sandwiches, a red bull and a soda was a whopping $15, seriously, what a fantastic deal. I do wish this place had a few tables so we could enjoy our bahn mi as hot and fresh as possible, but whatever helps keep the prices down is a-ok by me! So in closing, if you like amazing bread baked on site and a vast assortment of delicious fillings in said bread, head to Ba Le and never look back.

Cheap, good & unique! These are real Banh Mi's, not some $8 bullshit take on a Banh Mi! The #1 & #2 are my personal faves.

  • Nicky B.

Went to this place on the strength of Westword's designation as the best place for Vietnamese sandwiches. I'm no aficionado of the craft, but those were some danged tasty eats. The sardine & the pate sandwiches were my husband's and my favorites, and the green waffle we noshed on for dessert was a light, not-too-sweet dessert. And my dog, who is not a beggar at all, wouldn't leave us alone as we chowed down at our dining room table--a ringing endorsement!

  • Tsun T.

If you want the best Vietnamese sandwich in Denver, this is the place. Although, I usually only order the special combination. I think if you order 10, you get 1 free. There is also a bubble tea place (lollicup's) next door to help you wash it all down.

  • Liz S.

WTF is a vietnamese sandwich? Heaven my friends, heaven. A vietnamese sandwich at Ba Le starts with an crusty foot-long French baguette. They slit it down the middle, and fill it with meat, cucumbers, some cilantro, and some vietnamese carrot pickles. And they charge $2.75 for it. The result is the most unexpectedly wonderful sandwich you could ever wish for. Now, I was concerned about cilantro on my sandwich as well. But I'm a believer now.

A friend of mine brought me here when she found out that I didn't know what bahn mi was. If you know me, you know that I'm bouts me some pho... but the few times that I'd had bahn mi I just hadn't fallen in love. This place changed everything for me. Bahn mi is delicious. I never imagined that I'd get all fanboy for two staples of an ethnic cuisine, but what's not to love about this stuff!?!? It reminds me alot of pho. Herby, meaty, delicious, hearwarming, inexpensive, and a regular staple of my diet. I can't really say much for the service- my friend handled all of that and it was all in Vietnamese, but everything that I had was delicious and addictive. I'll be back. Like... maybe tomorrow. Mmmmm. Sammiches.

i used to live off of these sandwiches & coffees on Oahu. One day i decided to try and find a recipe on-line and was surprised to find a sandwich shop here in Denco. Not the best i've had, but i'm not about to put them down and compare them to the amazing sandwich i had in a "better, hipper city. Where an angel pulled it out of a Unicorn's ass and served it to me on a rainbow. Trust me Denver - it'll hit here after we're bored with it". You know those reviews, right..? Shoot, i may have inadvertently written a few like...okay, end side-bar - i'm just happy they're here. Anyway, i usually waddle over there after a bowl of goodness at Pho 95, and take home a couple Banh Mi's for "next meal". My car astray is so full of their colored rubber bands that i wished they'd take them back in exchange for a sandwich. Ditch the 5 dollar footies (damn, i hate that jingle) and try one of these. i think you'd never go back to the chain-wiches again.

oh man you guys. i love bahn mi. the last time i had one (like from a legit Vietnamese deli) was a hungover rainy sunday in january in brooklyn. and it was HEAVEN. the bread! the meat! the veggies! mostly the bread though. thats whats important. crusty but not to the point of being inedible. and man does this place do it up right. for a measly three bucks you walk away with a mad filling sammich that outshines the one that i got in brooklyn that one time i fell in love. make sure you get there early though! they have these CRAZY early hours that make it impossible to just STOP BY on your way home from work. boo.

Really the best Vietnamese sandwiches in town. I also stop in for ice coffees and che ba mau to go.

This was real good but not nearly as good as the place I ate at in San Fran. There is a shortage of meat on these sandwiches, I mean it is $2.75 i guess but so was the one in San Fran for double the meat. I'll definitely be back until I find better...

After dim sum at Kingsland, I always stop by Ba Le. I've tried the other banh mi places in Denver, and as far as I'm concerned, this is the place to get it. Do yourself a favor and order a couple of the pandan waffles. Don't be scared by the green batter - it's really quite a treat. If you're feeling a little more adventurous, try one of the drinks (che thai is a good one) or the little pork skin rolls in the refrigerator (nem something). Cheap and tasty!

Came here Saturday afternoon during our Memorial Day weekend trip to load up on some sandwiches before making our way to Estes Park. Good selections, decent prices, buy 5 get 1 free and the bread was delicious though could have had a bit more crunch to it.

I just split a #2 and #3. Took about 2 minutes to eat but savored every crumb. The #2 is tight. BTW, fellow raters, the sandwiches are $2.75. Don't be a cheap-ass and give them less than 3 stars because it's not packed with meat. Reach between your seat cushions and buy another sandwich!

    (4)
  • Sam D.

Damn straight - these are sooo good. I love the vietnamese bbq, the balance of lemongrass and fish sauce is unreal. Super consistent, really cheap and the french bread is always super fresh, crispy on the outside and soft and delic on the inside!

  • Joe P.

I don't know exactly what the magic is here. Maybe it's just the fresh bread and fresh ingredients. I'm no Vietnamese sandwich expert, but I declare these to be a great sandwiches in the grand scheme of sandwiches. And they are so inexpensive. A couple times I bought a couple just to take for my Monday and Tuesday lunches. That's value. So much value, so much flavor.

Chef Matt Selby says this is his favorite and I can't disagree. The toppings are classic Vietnam and Asia, but the bread makes it worth the trip alone. Who knew that the Vietnamese had cornered the market on soft, delicious, perfectly baked French bread. Get the pate--a divine bit of fusion that surprises at every bite.

  • Justin S.

Been here a few times and sandwiches are tasty. Have had the pork, pate, and sardine options. Was my favorite until I tried Vinh Xuong Bakery 2. VX sandwiches were much bigger and tasted a bit more fresh to me. Ba Le does have more options to choose from (which is nice). I also grabbed a Boba once which was good, but pretty sweet. Nice staff and sandwiches are cheap so a good option for a quick bite.

  • Noah N.

Ok Ba Le Sandwiches is not a place where you sit. So don't expect that. You order you take it with you. The prices are LOW. The quality however is really high. For 3 dollars I get a foot long sandwich made from a fresh hard roll. Its filled with veggies and fresh jalapeños slices. I really LOVE the BBQ Vietnamese pork. But don't be afraid to try anything on the menu. Even the Pate' is really good too. I know when I go in there I can not help but order 3 sandwiches and eat the others later. Why bother going to subway when this place is unique and way cheaper.

    (4)
  • Mike L.

For the price Ba Le is tough to beat. The baguettes are consistently fresh, crunchy and delicious. So far, I've had the #2 Vietnamese roast pork and the pate, which were both very good and flavorful. The service is also very quick.

    (4)
  • Veronica B.

I really love this place. Great sandwiches at a low, low price. Today I got the #10 (barbeque pork). It was as good as always except it did seem a little dry and there was only 1 slice of jalepeno on it. Bread was awesome!

    (4)
  • Sara G.

Wow! I must add my $0.02 and say that I'm now in love with Ba Le and the deliciousness that is bahn mi. What amazing sandwiches that explode with flavor. My favorite was the #2 (bbq pork, I think Chinese style). We also tried #10 (bbq pork, Vietnamese style), and #9 (bbq beef also Vietnamese style). Hubby and I were starving so we also tried the #11 (pate) but couldn't finish it. The pate was good, but not my favorite. Why, oh why would I stop at a fast food place when I can stop at Ba Le and have a bag of warm, delicious little sandwiches to go? A must try! Do yourself a favor and check this place out.

    (4)
  • Philip K.

Still good, but sandwiches are $3 now. The rate of inflation is crazy!

  • Jenni J.

So, I walked into Ba Le today for a delicious #2 sandwich, and to my delight, they put in FIVE self serve frozen yogurt machines (5 machines with 2 different fro-yo flavors per machine = 10 different flavors!). I've been on a fro-yo kick and I love this stuff! Original w/ strawberries and mochi is my treat of choice. (Just like Pinkberry, or locally Kuulture). You can't beat the #2 bbq pork sandwich and a frozen yogurt with toppings... all for under $6! Ba Le = Heaven!

Pretty good bahn mi sandwiches, for Denver that is. We've only tried them at one other location (and I'm talking the authentic kind not the ones that higher end restaurants around town claim to be true bahn mi which they're not), the little deli in the Far East Plaza on Alameda & Federal which also was good, not great. One of us got the combo - usual stuff, head cheese, pork sausage, and pate which in my mind is the best thing about these sandwiches aside from the butter, and the other got ham. They looked small when we got them so ordered the BBQ Pork as well, based on reviews listed here. All three were good but I liked the combo best. We eat these routinely whenever we got back for visits to the OC so we're pretty spoiled about choices and meat options. As chainy as they are, I think Lee's Sandwich Shop is still one of the best, even the locations in the Bay Area are good. Their bread is what makes it - so soft on the inside and crisp but not hard on the outside. I think that's what we missed about our Ba Le experience - the bread was good and fresh but a little to hard and dense for this type of sandwich. However, in a bind and when we're feeling the urge to eat bahn mi while in Denver, we'll be going to Ba Le...that is, until Lee's opens an outlet in town!

4 Sandwiches and a hefty cup of tangy fro-yo for $15, not bad at all. I really enjoyed the chewy crunchy baguettes they use. We had the two different types of Barbecued Pork as well as a Steak sandwich. My husband and I loved the sandwiches we tried. I also loved their not too sweet frozen yogurt. I put lychee and mango on mine. I will be back for sure.

I'm eating bbq pork sandwich now. Too much cilantro. Everything else pretty good but not great. The marinated veggies add a nice flavor and make it so no sauce is needed. The white bread is crunchy outside and soft inside. The key here is for $2.75 you can get a filling sandwich.

umm I must say i don't think yelpers got it right on this one, i ordered the chicken, bi and combo sandwich and they where all bland!! I had high hopes for this place base on reviews but sadly i was disappointed the only thing i liked was the sugarcane drink so there is my one star, and the girls behind the counters not so friendly...oh well its not like i'm going back

I had heard a lot about these sandwiches so I decided to drive down to South Federal all the way from Westminster. It turned out to be a great decision. The store was empty when I got there, but filled up pretty quicky within the next few minutes. The store itself is quite big but there are no tables for patrons. There is a row of chairs along the west wall for customers waiting for their orders. The girl behind the counter patiently answered all my questions. The menu on the wall does not state that the sandwiches in the top row are vietnamese-style while those in the bottom row are Chinese-style. I had the number 2 sandwich - the BBQ pork. It was delicious. The bread was awesome and the mix of fresh veggies and Pork was perfect. I did feel that the quantity of meat was not enough, but for $2.75, the sandwich on the whole was fabulous. If you like small portions, one sandwich is just right for you. If not, you might want to get at least two. Highly recommended :-)

I am spoiled by living a large part of my life in Houston. After tasting some of the most delicious (and affordable) sandwiches in my life, I always hope to find an equivalent bahn mi sandwich. Alas, I was definitely let down. However, I've had worse before as well, and it does stack up fairly well with the sandwiches I had in Washington D.C.

This place rules. I just ordered 4 different sandwiches and broght them home to share. They were all awesome, but I think the standout was the BBQ Pork (#2, I think). This was my first Vietnamese sandwich experience, and I can't wait to go back. Cheap and delicious...my 2 favorite words.

  • Joey T.

sandwiches are good. customer service is horrible. the lady over the counter seemed really angry and annoyed at my existence. she was so fumed at my very being, she didn't blend my yogurt slush, so i was left with 90% ice cubes, and 10% sugary syrup. The only words she uttered was "NO CREDIT CARD UNDER 5 DOLLARS". no hi, no "how may i take your order", no thank you, no goodbye.

I don't review too many chain restaurants unless they're really good. This place is really good! I usually go for the combo which is ham and pate. If you've never tried vietnamese style pate. this is a good place to give it a try. Think liverwurst meets bologne meets salami. I like the way the pickled veggies cut the richness of the meat in this sandwich. The bread is also very good, better than at other locations of Ba Le. If I were going to have people over for wine and cheese, would definitely drive all the way over here to get some french bread. Price is right... but If I were really hungry, I could eat two of these. Under normal circumstances, I get one sandwich with a side of boiled peanuts. Not the best Bahn Mi I've ever had but pretty close. Wish they would open up more locations in Denver. Would have given it a 5 if they had some sort of seating....They have these chairs that surround the perimeter of the store but no tables.

great bread, good ratio of meat to veggies and spicy stuff, perfect. if they were 5 bucks i would agree about the meat being skimpy, but at less that 3 u cant really complain. i like the chinese pork and the vietnamese pork. the pate was pretty good too but i dont eat a lot of liver (unless its fois) so i usually stick with one each of the two types of pork. i love how the vietnamese pork has just the slightest taste of fish sauce in there. love love love the bread. im gonna try one of those green waffles next time too. its in the same mall as my favorite pho and the little viet market i like. that mkt. had these amazingly fresh oysters in the shell for 69 cents each and their noodle selection is amazing. be careful if u buy fish in there though. i bought a red snapper in there that i tried to take back cuz it was rotten, and they werent having it. i guess i should have been suspect of a whole red snapper that cost 7 bucks. tri ocean market on the other side of the street just slightly south is a better option for fish. i got some beautiful yellow eye and some grouper in there, and they have some good looking tanks in there with fish and lobster, for way better prices than somewhere like whole foods. quail eggs too for 1.25 a dozen. best kept secret...the asian and hispanic markets on federal. we live near fed and union so we just eat all up and down federal.

Nice little sandwich shop. Good, quick, cheap food. Cleaner and nicer than you might expect for a strip mall hole in the wall, although still nothing amazing. Meat and veggies are both excellent, although maybe a little scant (for a 3.50 sandwich, though, it's plenty.) My one complaint is the bread--it was crisper and tougher than I would have liked, not entirely unexpected for a baguette, but most banh mi places I've been to serve them a little softer. My wife likes this style of bread just fine and thought it was excellent, though.

When to this place today to satisfy my craving for Bahn Mi. I usually go to New Saigon Cafe but wanted to give someone else a stab at impressing my taste buds. I ordered a sardine, a pork BBQ, and a beef Bahn mi as well as some spring rolls and a mango boba. Overall yummy and for $18, not a bad deal. The boba was slammin' and the spring rolls were on point too and served with a tasty little peanut dipping sauce. My gripes were that these sammies are 1) considerably smaller than say New Saigon and 2) the bread was not up to par. I would liken it to a grocery store bakery. The crumb of the bread was not there at all. No chewy goodness that so compliments a well put together bahn mi. The roll looked good, just didn't taste good. 3) value - they skimped on the innards big time. I mean for $3.5, I don't expect a Carnegie deli sandwich but I was left in want. But, the workers were very sweet and fast and the place was clean. I would go back if I didn't feel like waiting at another establishment but please, up your bread game!!!!! Please!!!

Asked for a #3 with no bread. "How? What? No bread? What." Why do they ask me? I tell them just put it on a plate... The response was sad "We Can't Do That." Sandwiches look good sadly they can't make them carb less

I was excited to try this place. I thought about going for the BBQ pork but was recommended the combination banh mi instead which is my go to. The banh mi tasted very fresh and had good ingredients. My only complaint was that the bread was kind of hard but still had a nice chew. I look forward to coming back and trying some of their other banh mi as well as their pandan waffles.

I tend to swing by Ba Le after first grabbing dim sum brunch over at Star Kitchen (same strip mall, just around the corner). My favorite is to grab an iced coffee and then get one of the green pandan waffles. Seriously, get a hot waffle and fresh coffee. It's so good. I mean yes, they good sandwiches, but get the waffle and coffee first and then see if you're still in the mood for a sandwich. The best part it's all very affordable!

Easily the best bahn mi in Denver (easily as good or better than any bahn mi I've had in Vietnam). As any bahn mi fan knows, the baguette can make or break a good bahn mi and the bread here is amazing - the perfect balance between a crisp crust and perfectly textured bread inside. The #2 BBQ pork is my stand-by favorite quickly followed by the #3 Combination. Totally different flavors and both are incredible. The rest of the toppings are perfect - crisp vegetables, fresh sprigs of cilantro, everything you need to create that magical balance that is bahn mi. Don't expect much for atmosphere or congeniality and I'm more tempted to take my orders to go but seriously, these are the best in town. Value? $3.00 each. Incredible.

Come back again and again and this time my sandwich was just meh. Had pate and bbq pork like usual but no heat... all sweet. :( veggies were very light this time too. I'm sad to say I was not satisfied this go around. I'll give them maybe one more shot but probably won't be craving it like I used to. :(

#2 BBQ pork was fabulous. Boyfriend had the #3 combination also very good. Also has the Mango yogurt drink. It was pictured with blended mango, and came with chunks in it. Still good. Total was under 10$ for all three items. No mayo on the Bahn mi.'s. They also had several flavors of sticky rice. They sell the pickles to go, I recommend. Bread was a little crustier than some, flavors were very good though. For a 3$ sandwich - what more do you want. They also sell, high heels, and various hair and skin treatments- one stop shopping! We got to watch some Asian music videos while we ate- Love that.

I know I like their #2 and the sardine one. The only thing is how far it is from me. I don't remember at all how the yogurt drinks taste so I kind of just stopped at lollicup. I also like how fast they get you your food.

I'm impressed. I'm eating a nem (sour pork) banh mi at this very moment and enjoying it greatly. Nem means sausage. This particular nem is fermented pork sausage, which is the reason it's referred to as sour, but its taste is not particularly sour. It is tender, bright pink, and really good. The vegetables tend to overwhelm the subtle taste of the nem. No matter; they are faultless, fresh, and plentiful. The bread is a warm and crusty baguette. Good stuff. And what bliss is the number 3 combo! It is loaded with different meats and offers an entirely different taste. Wow. Now I see I'm going to have to work my way through the menu instead of sticking with my usual choices. Oh, what a task ahead! I only wish this place were open 24/7.

Awesome bahn minh Vietnamese baguette sandwiches. At $3.50 to $3.75 they're also an excellent value. Plus the cooks are fast and the shop is clean. Be sure to order two sandwiches each not only are they slightly small you're going to want more later because they're so good.

Awesome prices for tasty sandwiches. I never thought of putting Vietnamese food in french bread, but now that i discovered this place i can see why they have great feedback and reviews. Ill most definitely be stopping by here again.

Sandwiches were good, not great. Pate #11 was best. Little meat on #2 BBQ pork and very very little veggies on either sandwich. Saigon Sandwich in San Francisco is still my favorite for bahn mi in the states. BBQ pork spring roll was good. Waffle was really dry, needed a sharp knife. I really wanted to like this place. Now I'm on a mission to find a better bahn mi in denver.

Rude people and not good sandwiches, Am surprised at these reviews.... New Saigon Bakery puts this place to shame. I would go there instead, which is also on Federal Boulevard.

Every time I come here with the intention of eating one tasty sandwich and sneaking one into a movie theater. Every time I end up eating both in one sitting, before I even leave the shop. Atmosphere is pretty much non-existent, but it's quiet. The bread is perfect. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. My favorites are the grilled beef and BBQ pork versions. Their jelly drinks are super yummy too. You can't beat this value.

It's been awhile since I've eaten Vietnamese sandwiches. I ordered the number 2, and I was not let down. The pickled vegetables, barbecue, and spice made for a perfect sandwich. Two sandwiches for 6 bucks is a great deal, and the sandwiches are made pretty quickly. It is sure to be a frequent stop for a quick lunch now.

Best Banh Mi I've had in a while. In fact, why try anywhere else. Banh Mi should be simple and fresh. I enjoyed an Americanized version somewhere downtown recently, but this reminded me of the roots. It should not be a massive sandwich and should be reasonably priced. Ba Le offers this. As well as several versions of Banh Mi, they also offer all of the ingredients in case you want to stock up at home. DT

I have come back here several times and they still skimp on the protein ingredients but I really like the BBQ Pork. It is only 3 dollars and is delicious. The sour pork was good too. They made me a fan, I learned to just buy 2 and eat half the 2nd one and save the other half for later....

I wish I was a little more adventurous when it comes to bahn mi but after my first time trying the pork tripe sandwich here, I've kind of lost my carefree attitude. Honestly, I only come here because it's the only place I can remember to spell correctly in the GPS and I'm just that lazy. This is an awful place to go to and the girl behind the register is ALWAYS on the phone with someone arguing about some really petty topic. How do I know this? The other girl behind the counter (the sandwich maker) is usually giggling and hiding her mouth behind her hand. I usually have to mouth my order, write it on a piece of paper and give my cash over without uttering a word less get the daggers of death from the cashier. I ordered a shredded pork and the aforementioned tripe sandwich thinking there was no way there could ever be such a thing as a bad Vietnamese sandwich. I think I've been spoiled by the little shops in San Francisco 'cause I got a reality check with this place. The bread was hard, not crusty-HARD, the meat was pretty scarcely scattered around the middle and there was a weird carrot to cilantro to meat ratio going on here for both sandwiches. So if I were to write an ingredients list it would read: Ingredients: Rock disguised as hoagie roll, Carrots, Cilantro, Daikon, Pickles, Cold and Dry Pork Shredded, Mayonnaise, and Jalapeno. I made quite the mess trying to eat one of these suckers in the car, cut the side of my mouth with one of the edges, and got the hiccups choking the first bite down. The only reason I'm giving this place 3 stars is because they also make a banh bao that I can't get out of my head. A bahn bao is basically a huge white steamed dumpling with pork meat, some veggies, a piece of sausage and half an egg. You'll see many variations of this great breakfast food at Chinese dim sum places and it's quite easy to make as well. redkitchenrecipes.com/20… One of these day, when I finally make the effort to make my own bahn bao, I'll stop coming here. But until then, I'll be back every other week to wipe them out for every dumpling in their case as always. At $2.25 a piece, I really should save myself the drive and nip my laziness in the butt.

Note to self, to GET WAFFLES, do come early NOT late in the day. That was what happened to me, when I want to get Waffles from Ba Le Sandwiches sometime ago before this review. Hence, the next time I went to Ba Le Sandwiches, I went early as early like 09:50hrs early. So many times, I pass by this area, so many times I forgot Ba Le Sandwiches exists in my RADAR-NA-NU list. What?? Until now I got the chance to go to this Heavenly Goodness Err, Asian Sandwich Shop err for this time was the GREEN PANDAN FLAVORED WAFFLES... Ba Le Sandwiches, I cant deny, I have a MAJOR CRUSHED with you in this case more like a MAJOR CRAVING, for what else WAFFLES... Yes, its just WAFFLES that you can make @ home. But since I DO NOT HAVE A WAFFLE Maker @ home, to this Ba Le Sandwiches I went to satisfy those cravings... Was here with A.W, before our Dim Sum Brunch just a few down doors aka Star Kitchen, SUNDAY May 6th 2012. We ordered the Green Pandan Flavored Waffles, since we are not craving for any Sandwiches as yet. If I could recall correctly, each Waffle cost $1.50. I ordered 3 Waffles. We waited for our order to be ready. Once our order was ready, I cant resists to have a bite on those GREEN Pandan Flavored Waffles. My oh my, it just melt in my mouth... tickled me Green... Yet satisfy my long awaited cravings of Waffles, that reminds me of Home aka in this matter where I was born and raised. Ate one waffle there and the rest I brought home, to be devoured at my own time at my own pace. For this Ba Le Sandwiches, you get 3 Stars in my books. Among other things, at least the ladies behind the counter are helpful to tell you what's this and that if you are not sure of your purchase of those bakery goods both sweet or savory. Hence this helps you what to decide for your next purchase at Ba Le Sandwiches. @81/2012

Excellent bahn mi. I work about 2 miles from this place and only get 30 minutes for lunch. I ran over the other day at a friend's recommendation, and got the #2 BBQ pork and #4 chicken. The sandwiches were ready in about 3 minutes, and were very affordable ($3-$4 each). My friend had told me that the sandwiches would be little and he'd had 3 or 4 for lunch one day. I actually did not find that to be true. I was really full after 2, and they were both absolutely delicious. Incredible flavor, hearty, and soulful. My job is a little bit mind-numbing and tends toward the daily soul-suck- this meal put me in such a good mood to finish the rest of the work day with a good attitude. Even though I kind of had to eat my food in the car on the way back to work, I made it back in plenty of time to sit and enjoy the last few bites and clock in on time. I would highly recommend based on this experience, and I can't wait to go back next time I'm feeling fussy.

I ordered the #4, grilled chicken and it was DELICIOUS! we had a group of 45 come through and they were super fast and efficient. The cashier even remembered everyone's faces and matched it up with everyones order. The cafe sua da is good as well, we would definitely come back!

This place has the best Bahn Mi and at a very good price. I always get the special combination with extra pate. The dessert with red bean and mung bean is also delicious. Nice way to end a meal. This place is designed for you to order and go, only a couple of tables for you to sit.

Have been craving some bahn mi for a good while now and decided to give Ba Le a try. Based on other reviews I read, two seemed like a good idea, since more than a few said these are skimpy, tiny sandwiches. Those people must be able to pack away the groceries hella better than I can, because now I am in a food coma! After unwrapping these tasty treats I vowed to eat only half of each one--the #4 grilled chicken, and the #7 shredded pork skin. I ended up eating 99.9% (left one bite so I wouldn't feel like a total glutton.) Both were quite good, a perfect balance of meat and flavorful veggies and herbs. But had I known their size I would have gone with the just the #7 because you can never, ever go wrong with pork skin. The swine was combined with those stretchy rubber band-like rice noodles and the combo is heaven. The sandwich bread is perfection--crackly crunchy on the outside, chewy soft on the inside. This is not your eat-all-the-meat-you-can kind of sandwich. Each element is meant to pair nicely with all the others inhabiting the same bun. So far, the two I tried did that nicely. I plan to work my way through the entire menu, only from now on, one sandwich at a time. And the service? Fast and friendly. All this for a $3-3.75 a sandwich. Awesome!

This was my first time here. The place is pretty clean. The ladies were sweet and nice. They have a lot of snacks that I usually can't get near downtown at all which is cool. So for their sandwiches, they have a lot of options. I got a bunch of different filled sandwiches: grilled pork, chicken, the special, meatballs, sweet/bbq pork, and Vietnamese "meatloaf." People rave about this place on yelp as well as the people that I've met and I am not sure why. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions (obviously) and I am honestly a little disappointed. The fillings of the sandwiches are good but they were set in small and stale bread. Many places that I have been to have larger sandwiches that are flaky, crispy, fresh, and and are stuffed with fillings! This place, however, is the opposite. I think I would only come back for their sugar cane juice and snacks but not for their sandwiches.

This may be my new favorite banh mi in Denver. Bakers Palace and Vinh Xuong being my other faves. Baguette was perfect texture, crispy with just enough bite. Veggies etc were super fresh tasting. Meats were good, maybe just a little less than Bakers Palace, but fine. They also sell pate separately if you want. I'm eager to try their grilled shrimp paste --- I ordered it but they mistakenly gave me a different sandwich, which was still quite yummy.

Banh mi always hits the spot. The baguette is crunchy yet light and fluffy on the inside. I always order the combination with has a variety of meats. The pickled carrots and daikons adds a sweet and crunchy texture. The cilantro is fragrant and fresh. Everything combined simply just goes well together. Everything tastes fresh as they assemble your sandwich after ordering. Cheap too. $3 can't really get a delicious sammich for that price now can you?

Classic ethnic take out style, random items like BBQ pork spring rolls wrapped in plastic on styrofoam containers. Dried fish with sesame in sandwich bags.. Fascinating albeit a bit wierd.. The service is also your classic ethnic take out style- complacent but talented. Order double meat to get the maximum effects!

Visiting town, Ba Le was one of the joints we bookmarked to try out. But to be honest, I was rather disappointed in Ba Le. I've had plenty of traditional Banh mi in NYC and was really craving a Banh mi that day. We got to the BBQ pork and the special. First off , the cashier looked extremely bored and I couldn't understand her when she was collecting the money. Now comes the food, the bread was very good but it stops there - there was very little picked carrots, radish, cilantro, and meat. It felt like I was eating just the bread. I thought to myself , "Okay, it's just this one sandwich which may be an outlier...try the other one..." To my dismay, both lacked in ingredients. Quite a disappointment for something I was soo looking forward to.

Holy YUM, Ba Le! These are some LEGIT Banh Mi! The Bread is crusty yet chewey and HOT, as it should be. The pickled radish and carrots (Which can be purchased in their coolers, too) compliment well without overwhelming. The jalapenos are de-seeded enough for a wimp like me to love. What have I tried: The Special Combination. All sorts of meat goodness. The Pate: HOLY COW that was amazing. The Sardine: Nom. Nom. Nom. The Vietnamese Green Waffle... Not-Too-Sweet Treat. Made in front of me, too. Like everyone else has said, it's too easy to polish off 2 of these babies. At less than $3 each, what's the excuse not to? I like to bring a group of friends so we each get something different and sample off each other. Show me the Banh Mi Love, Ba Le. And keep 'em coming.

  • Deb S.

They have awesome banh mi! They are made fresh to order and are only $3 each. The fresh bread they use to make the sandwiches is so good and the ingredients are nice and fresh. We get vegetarian ones but they have lots of different kinds to fit everyone's taste!

  • Denver B.

The Banh Mi are good here but the ratings and reputation are very over rated. The bread is firm and has a whole wheat texture to it. The baguette should be lighter, crisper with more of a rice flour crunch to it. The insides of the sandwich are ok but lacks the complexity of ingredients common to better Banh Mi's. I'll take New Saigon's Banh Mi's any day over Ba Le's.

Says 7 days a week, 8am-8pm. I came at 7pm on a wed, no one there, doors locked, no sign with any explanation. Edit: after going back a few times and trying their food when open, I'm fairly happy with this place. Bread is soft, slightly crispy: there's a crunch when u bite, but it's not so hard that it hurts the top of your mouth when you eat. I always get the pork one and it's a light meal, really cheap. Sometimes I need 2 to fill me.
