We went here to celebrate an anniversary and the service was fantastic. The food was delicious and it was the perfect place to celebrate a special event. The food was unique but well prepared. Thanks to all for the great experience.

Originally had reservations for dinner but opted to come earlier for happy hour. We were the only people in the restaurant at 4pm. We sat and the bar and got a bottle of water right away. That is pretty much the quickest thing that came, the water refills. Everyone was nice enough, but it was so slow. I couldn't believe that it took us over three hours for happy hours drinks and food. The kicker when we left at 7pm there were only two tables seated for dinner. So, the service was slow and pretty much annoying. On to the food. We started with the meat and cheese plate and wine. Both delicious. The next up was the mussels. Good broth and the mussels were good, had to ask for extra bread for the broth though. Next we had the hangar steak. We asked for medium rare, it came out well done and was cold. It was edible, but definitely not the best steak I have ever had. All in all, it is a cool spot for the neighborhood and good decor, however, the food and service need some help, especially since no one was even there. I have seen rave reviews for brunch so I will give them another chance an maybe come for that.

Amazing breakfast - nice selection, lovely atmosphere. Also excellent for dinner. The chef is creative, and the choices are interesting and a little unusual (for breakfast you can choose between pork belly or bacon). It has become a favorite!

Glad I came back here. I have enjoyed 2 really nice, fresh, healthy lunches with superb service. I have yet to make it for the dinner menu- it looks superb (particularly the cauliflower steak). Do yourself a favor and give this place a spin.

A beautiful restaurant with out of this world food. I have been to Atticus several times now and have never been less than impressed with the food or the service!

Friend and I ordered eggs benedict. I won't go back and now I'm wishing I'd returned the meal or asked for comp. First the good: remodel; poached eggs; everything else-way too salty, biscuit-ick, long wait for coffee refills, noisy. Pricey $24 for 2 w/coffee. I have a bad taste and diarrhea. No thank you. Surely the Tavern can do better than this.

Went for early breakfast around 7:30am. The ambiance was great and I loved the decor. Looks like a great place to have cocktails after work. The service was also wonderful with both the server and manager being very friendly. I ordered the gouda croissant with bacon which was wonderful! It came with a side of potato wedges which were pretty standard. My husband ordered the pork belly biscuit with his egg cooked over medium. We were confused when it arrived as it looked like it had bacon on it. But we asked the waitress and she said it was indeed pork belly. It was cut very thin. So that was odd. We overheard another table ask about the pork belly as well... they thought it was bacon. The biscuit was dry but flaky, and the egg over cooked so he didn't get that "yolky" taste he wanted. We will definitely return, but probably not for breakfast.

BEST business lunch in a long time. Charming decor. Parking in back. Knowledgeable, helpful, friendly staff. (Thank you Connor!!) Outdoor seating. And then there's the food - glorious food! BLT sandwich ordered without bread. Pork belly, candied (!) bacon, perfectly ripe tomatoes, arugula, fresh sweet peas, crunchy fried chickpeas, spring mix of greens. AND lightly pickled sweet onions! And that was just my dish. My only regret was that as a business lunch I couldn't sample the lovely artisanal cocktails I observed being served to others. (Did someone say "Sidecar"?) I'll be back for sure. Do yourself a favor and try it out. Corner of Evans and Downing.

We went on a Monday, when many restaurants are closed, and they were uncharacteristically busy. Right off our server warned us that it was just he and the bartender serving the whole place and things would probably be slow coming out. They were - but not egregiously so - and along the way we were comped a round of drinks AND scallops, which were delicious! Everything we got was great. My husband is picky about his burgers, but his was cooked to perfection. No complaints. The chef's board was excellent. The drinks were unique. The venue was the right combo of spacious and cosy. The atmosphere was just hipster enough without being annoying. There's even an old painted name on the wall from back when the place was Fagan's, for those who remember the old days.

Had a very pleasant experience though there is room for some tweaks with the food. Drinks are apothecary style (which I don't care for) but the wine list was adequate. I went here with a girlfriend and received a very warm genuine welcome. Service was extremely attentive and responsive. We asked to be seated near to the fireplace which was really charming. We ordered the brie pot which was nice but brie was super runny and hot, frisee salad which was over-dressed, brussell sprouts with aoli which were delicious but heavy on the aoli. Has a warm tasteful decor. Not super vegetarian-friendly but definitely worth checking out.

Meh probably summarizes my experience at Atticus best. The Positive. - Super cute, rustic-y environment with nice decor and lots of bright, natural light (we went for lunch). - Our server/bartender (same person, as there was 1 person working...which I'll get to) was super sweet and responsive. The Negative - Slow. Slow. Slow. As noted above, there was 1 person working both the bar and the 4-5 tables over the course of our lunch. We sat down at 11:45 and it took a solid 15 minutes to get our drinks ordered/delivered, 30+ to get our appetizers (which we ordered immediately upon sitting down because we were starving), 75+ to get our mains. At one point, we thought maybe our server had forgotten to put in our order. We had planned on a leisurely lunch but were a bit shocked that we didn't leave until 1:45. - Inconsistent, Underwhelming Food. Appetizers: We started with the Brussel sprouts (which were delicious) and the smoked trout platter. The trout didn't have a smoked flavor to it (at all) and the blue cheese/caramelized onion spread/dip that came with it was missing blue cheese. It was very bland tasting. Mains: When we asked what the "Flatbread of the Day" was our waitress said "Let me go ask, I don't know if they've decided yet." Note, it's well past noon at this point. When it came out, the crust was completely undercooked/doughy and very sparsely topped. The Caprese Sandwich was more a platter of a few pieces of toast with mozzarella/tomato on top. The Porkbelly Tacos had some weird refried bean base to it and the arugula on top was wilted. The three wins for us were the Tuna Tartare, Shrimp & Grits - a super flavorful, large portion - and the Frittes...which I proceeded to dip in the Shrimp & Grits out of hunger from not eating much of the other items.

Oh where to start on this one. Let me start with the good. Our waitress was super sweet and gave us a lovely customer service experience. The hubs burrito was very good with lots of chorizo, fried potatoes and delicious green chili, however the cheese wasn't completely melted on top. My shrimp on my shrimp and grits was perfectly poached and the initial flavors were tasty. Now on to the rest of the experience. The place was half full and it took almost 20 minutes to get our drinks and a full 40 minutes to get our meals. We were told a 6 top table's order went in right before ours causing the extreme delay. It is a little alarming that a restaurant advertising weekend brunch isn't able to stay on their game and gets into the weeds with a six top. This isn't the restaurants fault but our experience was punctuated by a table of four braying donkeys, whoops, loud girls that were unaware of the space. Other tables around us were also commentating. As I mentioned my shrimp and grits was good initially. About halfway through it became a greasy mess. There was so much butter/oil floating on top I couldn't finish it. The grits were super smooth which only heightened the greasy quality. Our waitress did offer to buy our second drinks on the house but we passed. A quick trip to the restroom had watered down hand soap in the ladies. We had to ask for our check and an hour after we walked in we were finally released! I think there is a lot of potential but it felt like opening day of a brand new restaurant.

Dear Atticus Finch, I just love your new restaurant. I have lived in the neighborhood for 15 years and have always avoided that corner. I once even formed a school parent coalition so they would not put a bus stop at that corner because it was so damn sketchy. It was the reviews Atticus, that brought me in. I was skeptical, but now that I have made it in, sat by the fire, enjoyed a snazzy Sidecar with a giant chiseled ice cube, sampled the Happy Hour Menu, chatted with the servers and staff.... now you should be seeing me on a regular basis! A sincere thanks for IMPROVING the corner of Evans and Downing, bringing some class and a really world class little restaurant there! THANKS!!! A friend and I stopped in for Happy Hour early on a Friday- We were too early for the dinner menu, but were quite delighted by everything anyway. We tried two versions of a sidecar, and it was evident that Atticus has a fine mixologist back behind the bar. I highly appreciated the square chiseled ice cube in my drink clinking around! NICE TOUCH!!! We noticed that wines were half off at Happy Hour, and the wine-by-the-glass menu was excellent and half off is quite the bargain! You can't go wrong. From the bites menu, we tried the chicken tacos (amazing and succulent), the smoked ribs (wow!), and the half order of the moules frites (mussels with fries, and they were delish!). Can't wait to come back for dinner, See you soon, Alice.

Really enjoyed this place. It's walking distance from my friend's house and a great little spot. The ambiance is perfect for date-night or nicer dinner out with friends. Price is really reasonable as well (or maybe I'm just used to Chicago prices). The old fashioned was perfect with a nice oversized ice block. Had the special filet for the evening and it was cooked perfectly. The brussel sprouts were nice and crispy and I love me some beets. Only knock I have here is the presentation. I enjoyed the plating, but wasn't as much of a fan of it being served on a wooden block. Maybe I'm being a little neurotic, but wood makes me think bacteria :( Ended the night with a sazerac which was holy batman strong. It was well-made, but a little much after the old fashioned and bottle of wine we split.

*LOVE LOVE LOVE* their new executive chef, Matt Mine. His dishes are both delicious and beautiful. Don't pass up the Brussels sprouts with the garlic aioli!! I've been for both brunch and lunch and each time had a hard time deciding what the try. At brunch we had the Brussels sprouts, pork belly benedict (!!!) and shrimp and grits -- all spectacular choices. At lunch, I had the skirt steak tacos and, of course, some Brussels sprouts. The skirt steak was unbelievably tender. The décor is so warm and inviting. I love the fireplace and there is plenty of room for medium sized groups. The service was outstanding and we were having such a great time that mid-day brunch with girlfriends turned into a couple hours of fun. The best part for me is that they are close by for lunch during the work week and was able to get in and out during my lunch hour!

This just might be my new favorite place! The hubby and I wandered over on a Friday night around 8 pm. We had not really planned on anything in particular for dinner, and we weren't really trying for a "date night" or a "fancy meal" or anything. We just happened to be feeling lazy, not up for cooking, and needing to get out of the house (because we both work from home.) Upon first entering, the space is small and warm, with a great "rustic" style that isn't too predictable or overdone. I really love the color blue they used on their accent wall! There was a sign that said "check in at the bar" so we asked, and were advised to wait. In a couple minutes, someone came over and asked if we had been helped, and we said "no, not yet." Suddenly, it was a whirlwind of service and awesomeness, because that someone was actually Justin, the GM for the restaurant. Justin and his staff made sure we were well fed! The service was spectacular and had a definite air of the "friendly neighborhood restaurant" - a great feeling when you are so close to DU, and most of the "neighborhood" spots are a bit louder/younger. Not to say I am an old fuddy-duddy, but it was more mellow, and right in line with what I wanted for the evening. Hubby had the "butcher's choice" - a hunk of lamb and a hunk of beef, on a hunk of wood, with parsnips, broccolini, and chorizo, with a whiskey demi-glace. I went with a vegetarian ravioli that was so good, they brought me some extra bread to clean up the sauce to avoid me licking the plate. (Seriously, I was considering it.) The custom cocktails tend toward the bitter/brown drinks, but this isn't a bad thing, and they aren't the *only* options. My first glass was the "Jem & Scout" - mezcal, something spicy, and something else....and it was awesome. It also had *quite* a kick, which made it a good sipping drink. My second round after dinner was a variant on the French 75, since I don't like pear....and it was also delicious. "Fun" was the word my hubby used to describe it. We started our meal off with a Brie Hot Pot - and it was amazing. We ended it with a Raspberry Shortcake. That was also amazing. Surprisingly delicate in flavor, yet still warm and comforting. The service was great, the food, the drinks, the atmosphere were great, and a night that started off as "meh, might as well go out" turned into a lovely, romantic, intimate date night - pretty much our first "fancy" night out since getting married in June. It was a much needed evening, and the great people at Atticus had a lot to do with it! GO HERE NOW. Unless you are loud, obnoxious, or cheap. I will say our meal was over $100, but worth every penny.

Alright I have to update my review because I had another great night here thanks to the bar staff. Great drinks, great conversation; the bartenders can do no wrong in my book. If the rest of the restaurant was up to the caliber of the bartenders, this would be a 5 star place hands down. I want this place to survive off of the merits of their drinks and bartenders alone. So do come here, but seriously, only sit in the bar area.

There's aren't many restaurants too focused on exceptional customer service anymore. Most places rely on their showy food or cliche decor. Some places truly do have amazing food but seem to forget that the time between you sitting down and actually receiving that food is important as well. Atticus blew us away tonight! We arrived half an hour early to our scheduled reservation (on a very busy Friday night) and decided we could check and see if the hostess could sit us early (we knew the chances were slim since they were so busy). Within about 15 minutes, they had cleared a table and had us sat. We ordered our drinks and app (the Hot Pot) both things came out quickly. We then ordered our main courses (the lamb and burger). Before the food came out, our waiter came out and apologized profusely for the wait and advised us that because we had waited for longer than what they wanted us to that they would be taking care of our entire bill! We seriously didn't wait that long, though. We could see they were busy and honestly thought the wait time was decent. The food came out and it was perfectly cooked and both entrees were packed full of flavor. This place will definitely get our business again.

Stopped into Atticus on Friday night for some drinks with friends. First off, the service was INCREDIBLE! The bartenders, the host, the manager, everyone was so awesome! Their crafted drinks (specifically the whiskey ones) were really really awesome! Note: Definitely try the Brie Appetizer. I have never had a fondue appetizer quite this good!

What a great name for a restaurant! So many of us grew up inspired to practice law by Gregory Peck's depiction of Atticus Finch in "To Kill A Mockingbird" that it's a surprise the name hasn't become more popular. But maybe this newest incarnation will prove to be as long-lasting a business as it's predecessor at that Evans and Downing Streets corner: Fagan's Restaurant from the 70's. At the time, Fagan's was just as au courant as Atticus now is, with its small plates and food service set out on planks, along with its homey fireplace. Atticus did a great job last night. I met a business associate at the bar for a drink and then stayed for dinner with my honey who came on by later. We remained at the bar to eat and were treated well by the cool bartender. Really liked the butcher plate special which included perfectly cooked medium rare squares of lamb and succulent--but too fatty--pork belly (hint to the kitchen: a square of pork belly should at least have some meat on it and not be 100% fat; hence 4 and not 5 stars:). That meat combination was sautéed with baby carrots and Brussels sprouts in a delectable demi-glace. My sweetheart absolutely loved her shrimp and grits, and the Malbec at $8 was reasonably priced and a perfect fit with the lamb. No time for dessert since we were running late for a movie; but looking forward to catching a rerun of Atticus real soon. Sign me, David "Scout" M

Yummy brunch! I'm not sure who said this place was inexpensive in their review but that's not quite how I would describe it. That being said, I'm happy to pay for a good brunch when its really good. We've been twice now and both times we had a happy table. I had steak frittes and while it was a bit salty, I like that and really enjoyed every last bite. If I had it to do again, the shrimp and grits were outstanding and I had plate envy after ordering. So good! Nice place to take the family or a date. Its a good alternative to the student focused restaurants in that neighborhood.

We had a great night out at Atticus. I was surprised at first by how small it is, but I like the quiet, intimate feel. We ordered the brie pot and salmon flatbread for starters. The brie pot was peppery and creamy. There was a lot in there, and four of us didn't finish it off. The flatbread had salmon, prosciutto, and a creamy herb spread. I think I liked it, but my piece was so tiny that I was still deciding by the time it was gone. I ordered the skirt steak for the main course. It was cooked perfectly, and I loved the marinade. It was a good sized portion of meat, but one piece of broccoli does not make me feel like a ate my veggies. I've heard they have phenomenal brunches as well, so I can't wait to get back.

3.5 stars would be more like it. I'll start out by saying that my biggest disappointments were the main dishes. We order the fishmonger plate, the butchers plate, the duck duck and the skirt steak. The skirt steak given was an extremely small portion - it just didn't make sense for the price. I was particularly disappointed by the fishmonger dish. It's given to you on a wooden slab which doesn't make for easy eating. The fish was bland - pretty much salt and pepper on trout. The scallops were nothing special. The veggies were boiled and in very short supply. It was really a lackluster plate. On the positive side the "beginnings" we had were good. I highly recommend the brussels sprouts. The dessert we shared was my favorite. It was some ice cream surrounded by divine custard and blueberries. It really hit the spot. Our server was kind and thoughtful. She was always there when we needed her. The ambiance was quirky. It was a comfortable place to dine at. I could see myself suggesting this place only for a light bite or happy hour (I hear they offer great deals and their libations list was great). However, I'll pass on a full meal here.

Went for a second visit last night and had a mixed experience. Overall, the food was very good as was the service, but had a really annoying experience that will prevent from going again. After ordering, the server and manager returned a while later to tell us that they were out of three of the 4 entrees we ordered. We did come in later and that happens. The manager, however, apologized profusely and said he was going to take care of us and make things right. Evidently, his view of taking care of us was to take our order after implying he'd buy a drink, etc. Bill came and nothing and the manager was nowhere to be found. Had he not said anything, I wouldn't have thought anything of it, but after he opened his mouth, we had a different expectation. Further, the entree menu is limited and I couldn't find anything (I think there were three red meat options, but I wanted something else not vegetarian and there was really nothing else). Since we had appetizers I got a salad which was blah. So I left hungry after paying $70 for two of us and not much food. Not what I was expecting after the first visit and a huge disappointment.

From the fabulous chefs/owners behind table 6 comes atticus. Located near DU, it's not an area I would usually explore for brunch on a weekend but the reviews had me intrigued. First of all they accept reservations, second of all they have their own parking area. Hallelujah brunch heaven. Of course bottomless mimosas are available. The menu took me by surprise because there is only one sweet dish: the waffles. But god almighty the chorizo French toast was amazing. Savory French toast? With a poblano pepper, cheese, egg, and chorizo?!! Yes. Dear Jesus yes. Can't wait to be back for drinks and the dinner menu.

OMG. I've been a devoted Atticus fan since its opening. The space is gorgeous, parking is easy to get, service is (mostly) attentive and perfect and it's been a great location to take clients for business lunches. PLUS, the menu has been great, tasty and unique. Until... We went yesterday for lunch to find that the menu has changed (almost entirely) and it's NOT what it used to be. Gone are the yummy sandwiches (like the chicken breast or the portabella mushroom) the pepparadelle pasta and the steak tacos. In place are a variety of "new items" that seem to actually be the same ingredients used in several different ways. -Three items with smoked chicken-- salad, chicken salad, and enchilladas -Three "BLT" items-- a sandwich, tacos and a salad And a Steak and Kale salad (which I regrettably ordered). While it sounded good, we were served a bowl of undressed kale hiding a few slices of steak, some caramelized onions, four cherry tomato halves and a dusting of blue cheese. Akin to eating rabbit food, I requested a side of vinaigrette just to make the kale less dry and more edible. While I know it's a trend-- for restaurants to kick the good things off the menu, I was hoping this wouldn't happen with Atticus. Bring back the oldies (and goodies)!

I love my new 'hood but one of my few gripes has been the lack of nicer dining options. Apparently Table to Tavern (the folks who own Table 6) agreed and created Atticus. While I had driven by Atticus several times, I had no idea what it was and honestly, I didn't really care. It wasn't until I was watching 9news last week and they featured them and their Denver Restaurant Week (DRW) menu. I was impressed and decided to make a reservation and went with a friend last night. The interior of Atticus is lovely. Warm and inviting with a fire place in the corner of the dining room, which was really welcome on yesterday's chilly, snowy night! We were welcomed by our wonderful server Jeff and he explained the DRW menu: included was a shared Charcuterie board, choice of salad, entree and a dessert to share. We both decided on the roasted beet salad, the Corriander and Coffee Crusted Lamb Loin and the Salted Caramel Flan for dessert. The Charcuterie board was a wonderful start: lovely meats, cheese, tapenades and nuts. The Roasted Beet Salad was the perfect blend of sweet roasted beets and creamy goat cheese and the lamb was cooked a perfect medium rare. I loved the blackberry sauce it was garnished with and I enjoyed the polenta that was on the side. However, I did find the zucchini and summer squash a bit overcooked for my liking but don't get me wrong, I still ate it! By the time dessert came out we were pretty full, but we still had a few bites of the Salted Caramel Flan. I love flan and I love salted caramel and this didn't disappoint. This flan was less dense than I'm used to which was nice after such a filling meal. And it had just the right ratio of salty to sweet. This is what DRW is about, folks! Sampling from the actual menu to discover a new place and hopefully like it enough to return. And in this case it paid off! I'm looking forward to coming back and checking out their breakfast/brunch, their happy hour as well as coming back for dinner and enjoying other items on their menu. Welcome to the neighborhood, Atticus!

We ended up here for Denver Restaurant Week (not realizing that it was in fact DRW), and we will have to come back to try some of the other menu options that weren't available during this time. Based on their menu online (and the full one our kind server showed us), they have a few vegetarian options for each meal. I was sad to miss out on the Cauliflower Steak, which is supposed to be amazing, but I got the Eggplant Hot Pot (without the egg, as I don't eat eggs). It was ok, but felt overly salty to me, and like not enough food. However, my corn flan starter was fantastic. My partner had the salad to begin - it was good, but nothing too special or different. For the main course, he had the fish, which again, was good, but nothing so fancy or unique. Desserts were both amazing, and the iced tea, though not frequently refilled, was clearly brewed there and was a delicious blend. I am still not quite sure what the theme is here; reclaim rustic? Fancy schmancy mining tavern? Add to that the fact that you have to go through a grungy/loud college bar to get to the bathrooms (again, miner rustic fancy outhouse themed?) that were out of cheap dollar pump soap. Odd, but not a deal breaker. However, the wait staff were phenomenal, the food, while pricey, as reliable and the main menu had some really creative choices. We'll be back for a special celebration night to try out the exciting items we missed.

Went to Atticus last night with two other couples. None of us had been before, and we all agreed that the service was impeccable. We were greeted by a friendly host and seated right away. The waiter, Roman, was amazing! He was attentive without being overbearing and knowledgeable about the menu and wines/drinks. Along with a great bottle of wine, one member of our party had a Moscow Mule. Not usually my favorite drink, but holy Lord, it was awesome!! Another person ordered the Vieux Carre, which is a Rye version of an old fashioned. Again, the bartender sure knew what he was doing. The Brussels Sprouts appetizer was delicious and came out quickly. I and another person each had the cauliflower steak (vegetarian meal) and it was really good. I can't eat quinoa so they made exceptions for that. The accompanying veggies - asparagus and carrots - were perfectly seasoned and crisp tender. Yum! A couple of other people ordered the hanger steak which was the special for the night. This got glowing reviews from those that tried it. Another person ordered the burger. It was gone so quickly, I'm assuming that was delicious since none of us got a chance to try it. :( The desserts...oh, the desserts. Roman brought out a couple of desserts for us to try and share. We couldn't decide so we ordered another round of both. One was a rhubard cobbler with pecan ice cream. The other was a chocolate cup with ice cream and berries. We will be back again, maybe try their tempting brunch? I just cannot say enough about Roman. If you get him as your waiter, you're in for a treat! He's funny, charming, knowledgeable and generous. We all had a blast!

Wow! I love this cozy little neighborhood eatery. Both of my visits to Atticus thus far have been rock and roll good. On the first visit, my husband and I shared the Chef's plate. Interesting and delicious artisan nibblin's. On our second visit, we had dinner. The salad was light and wonderful, and the skirt steak was heavenly - a must-try for any fan of the red meat. Service is attentive but not overly so. Thank you Atticus! Tables and waiting space are limited, so reservations are recommended. You can actually reserve a table right here on Yelp!

Loved the first time when I went with girlfriends on a Thursday night. Took my husband and in laws and had a rez for a Fri night few weeks later. (Mothers day was Sun so this was the Fri before it to give you a date of when this was) Totally different experience unfortunately. We sat forever unnoticed, had to have the hubs get up and ask the hostess if we could get drinks, sorry they forgot about us! No big deal, it happens. But then it was just all downhill from there. Was given wrong main dish/ ordered cauliflower steak- came as small crumble in pot. Food was not that great all around and we ordered all the desserts hoping that'd be better but one of the deserts, a root beer float with stout and vodka was so disgusting I don't get how anyone could drink it. Just a bad experience all together. Our waiter was apologetic at the end but still, a mAnager should've come out and apologized. We ordered a lot! Apps drinks, entrees and all the desserts. A good $300 price tag. And we were in good spirits, laughed everything off and were gracious about everything that kept happening. I later found out my father in law was so ticked that he wrote management an email later and even never got a response. That's unacceptable to me. Write your customers back, even if they are upset- let them know you at least care. Geez! I felt awful because it was my recommendation too! So it was good one time/ awful the next. Not worth a third try - too many other places out there.

The food was good and the ambiance was cool, but for whatever reason, the night we went to Atticus they must have been understaffed. There were a few other groups in the restaurant, but plenty of open tables...however, it took forever. 20 minutes for a drink, 50 minutes for food...just unacceptable in terms of timeliness. But again, we liked our food. It just doesn't help that I'm an impatient (sometimes to a fault) person. Will I go back? Sure! I'd have given them 4 stars if the service were better, and I'm holding out hope it was an off night or a server didn't show up.

We had a nice lunch here. Lemonade was not from the CocaCola machine--Yea! Steak tacos were very interesting and reasonably priced with tender skirt steak and pickled jalapeños. Nice to sit by the fire on a cold day. Remarkable redo of the former space and quite a change from the biker bar theme to classy restaurant. I want to come back for a dinner service.

This has become one of my go-tos for lunch or breakfast meetings. The interior is cozy and the staff is really sweet. The food is solid and portions are very fair. It's a nice option around DU when you need something a little more grown up.

We stumbled upon this place on a Sunday morning, and were shocked that there wasn't a long wait for brunch. Especially given that our experience was 2nd to none! The brussels sprouts with egg and prosciutto was amazing! We also had the short ribs - which was equally good. As they say, presentation is everything, and judging by the way our food looked when it arrived, Atticus definitely has this buttoned down! The service was also great, and the decor of the restaurant was beautiful. Not pretentious, high-brown, or over-priced, but swanky nonetheless. We'll be back for certain!

I was intrigued by the name of this place and decided to give it a try with my fellow foodie friend a few weeks ago for an early dinner. I love the spot and the decor is really great. They have held true to the "To Kill a Mockingbird" origins of the name and decorated to befit the story-old-timey industrial, farm-ish, with a bit of bookish thrown in for good measure. I think Atticus has a fighting chance to really standout in the Denver restaurant scene, but there are some kinks to iron out (as there are with any newcomer). The service was...interesting. I was greeted by a very courteous server in a timely fashion and we talked about wine while waiting for my friend. Once she arrived, we decided on a bottle on Zinfandel to share. The server again goes into his wine spiel and goes "at your age I doubt you have tried enough wines to really know what you like and want but I think you did well in choosing this bottle" My girl friend and I laughed and I said "Actually we are studying for our level one sommelier exam right now so you're talking to some people who actually know a thing or two about wine" (said in a very friendly way!) The server goes "Oh, well in that case I guess you don't even need me then" and turns around haughtily. My friend and I looked at each other in disbelief! We didn't mean to crush his ego, we were merely trying to make conversation! After that, the service was just weird. It was blatantly efficient and it was very apparent that we had offended our server, which was completely unintentional. Having been a server I can understand having a bad day but it was like night and day after the "wine incident". However, the food was good, I especially liked the French onion soup; its size was perfect for a starter and the flavors were nicely balanced. I also loved the bruschetta and the flourless chocolate cake is a must for dessert! Our server was nice enough to give us dessert on the house, not sure if he felt bad or if he learned that we knew some people who work there. Whatever the case it was a nice gesture and was much appreciated. I hope Atticus can get a solid team together and really take the city by storm as its atmosphere and food are moving it towards a great place in the mile high restaurant scene. Can't wait to see what the group (Table to Tavern) does with the remodel of their other spot, Handlebar!

"Growing pains..." yes. Aesthetically, I could sit in a corner and gaze out at the walls, ceiling, bar, and genuine details for hours. Otherwise, we have some work to do. We went with a group of 6 and ordered a variety of drinks and dishes. The cocktails as a whole were great. The wine - a disaster with two flawed bottles. The food - decent but nothing to write home about, save for the tuna salad and meat & cheese board. We thought the other dishes were good attempts but lacked finesse. All that said, I have high hopes for this place if the management makes some critical changes people have already addressed in their reviews. I'll be back in several months to see how it's going.

My wife & I went for brunch today; and like the previous visits, we waited. We waited to order, waited for our coffee, And waited over a 1/2 hour for our food. My wife`s waffles obviously were not cooked to order, and were room temp. My english muffin didn`t know the toaster, almost raw. We like to support local independent places, but they don`t seem to want us to come back because we see the same service/food issues. They did comp our food, but, I do feel its important to let others know the good & bad about places. We will reconsider going back.

First, the moscow mule was all gin, hardly any ginger beer, that was remedied rather quickly. Fusion plate was amazing, lots of interesting choices of meats / cheeses, service was absolutely atrocious, after we waited literally 20 minutes for additional bread for said fusion plate, it finally arrived, a tiny little bit of bread. Normally, I wouldn't think to leave zero tip, however, the bartender/manager came over and asked us 'how is everything' and we said 'we're still waiting for our bread'. She just fluttered around not really listening to us on this concern. I guess if someone usually walks around to ask how everything is, I expect that they will actually remedy the concern we have, not just walk around and ask people like a mindless automaton. The real zinger for why this is 1/5 stars is the same manager/bar person comes over later and tells us that my entree order never got put in, and that it's the girl's first day. Really, no sorry, you blame your new staff on the problem? At the time she was telling us this, she didn't even apologize or say sorry, just put blame on the new person, that is entirely what put me off about this situation. She did come over later in the evening and apologize and give us a free drink, but at that point, I'm sorry, a free drink doesn't really make up for the multitude of problems we experienced. All in all, great birthday dinner, we made the best of a bad situation, but I would honestly say, don't expect to be wowed here by the service!

Unfortunately more cons than pros. Pros: Doughnut bites, cheese board, and mussels. Friendly service. Cons: EVERYTHING TOOK FOREVER. There were also out of seemingly a lot of items on the menu. My eggs were overcooked on my benedict. My husbands burger was overcooked. My friend said her brie and apple sandwich was bland. After being there for almost an hour we were informed that they were out of what my friend ordered. I forced them to give her a free drink for the silliness. My friend announced it was the worst brunch he'd ever had. We won't be going back as there are far too many places to try to even flirt with disappointment.

Very disappointed with the food I got for the price at brunch today. None of us a finished our plates even though we all love to eat. Everyone liberally applied salt and pepper to the under seasoned and uninspired food. I got the pork belly Benedict and it was extremely bland. There was barely any "chili" hollandaise on top and the flavors of everything were covered by the rich egg yolk (I put chili in quotes because I'm almost 100% there was no kind of chili at all in there). I might as well have just eaten poached eggs and toast. I would have been happy with it for half the price, but for $13, this dish should have tasted better. My uncle got French toast that came with chopped up pork belly sprinkles on top. It was a good pairing of flavors, but a terrible execution. Who wants to eat sweet meat-toast? I gave 2 stars because the potatoes were delicious and crispy.

We had a good time, but not a great time. The atmosphere is really relaxing, we were able to get a same day table for 6 at 6:30 which was a win for us. We also have a 15 month old, and while Atticus isn't geared for kids, they have all the necessary items - chair, kids menu, etc. - and they really loved having our daughter there. We weren't the only folks with kids either. The thing that kept me from giving more than three stars was the food. My wife and I ordered the jumbo prawns and pork belly, which looked amazing on the plate when it arrived. The prawns were undercooked and underseasoned. When I say undercooked, I mean ama-ebi shushi style undercooked. I love me some sushi...just not what I ordered. They also looked to be coated in some sort of seasoning which was mysteriously non-falvorful. Not spicy, not salty, not...anything. I pointed this out to our server, who was wonderful and offered to re-fire our order. What that meant was taking the cut up chucks of prawns (we cut them all apart to make sure they were all undercooked) and re-cooking those same chunks and bringing them back to us. On the few occasions I've been unhappy enough with a dish to say something, I've ended up getting a new order entirely. What happened at Atticus just seemed strange...maybe it was the last order of prawns? The house comped us a couple deserts and drinks, which was all anyone can ask. The other diners all finished their food. They weren't overly impressed, but didn't have any stark criticism either. Just seemed like the food didn't live up to the price tag or expectations given the great atmosphere and friendly staff. I'd go back for lunch or a drink (wonderful cocktails!!!), but I'd be hard pressed to drop $100 for dinner for two again.

Great service! We reserved on Open Table and they even put our name on a chalk board on the table. The atmosphere is cozy and honey, if a little stuffy at times. The menu is diverse and American, though pricey. For starters, we had the meat and cheese plate (delicious) and the baked Brie (Brie hot pot). Delicious. Then for a meal, I had the burger which was amazing. Our friend had the skirt steak which she also loved. Unfortunately, my husband and other friend got the seafood pasta mix. The mussels and clams weren't open or cooked well. The sauce was bland and the pasta was overlooked. Though the waitress was awesome and brought the chef out, they were out of clans to re-cook. Rather than take more gross mussels, the men decided to just deal. However, surprisingly, both still appeared on our bill. Luckily for the chef, the waitress and other two meals made it a good experience overall.

Nice people, decent food. They just clearly have a lack of Mexicans in the kitchen = The food takes too long. My pancakes and french toast took over 15 minutes when there were only two other tables in the place...really? As former industry that should take less than like 10 minimum- don't you prep anything? Its a new place and hopefully they get themselves together because it has great potential. If you're not in a hurry give it a shot. I loved the creative mexi french toast, it could be a bit moister though, as in soak it longer than 30 seconds so its not just dry bread. Cute quaint lil spot that could do great as a neighborhood bar etc...Ill go back and check it out again. Oh park at Walgreens or good luck...

So glad this restaurant took over what was once a sports bar/kind of a dive hangout tavern. The chef knows what's up and the food was incredible. Portions are the perfect size. the Waiter was attentive but not hovering. My only complaint about this place is, the tables for two are soclose to the next table, it's impossible to have an intimate conversation. The couple next to you will be involved with your conversation. No way around it. The room is small so I do not see this changing anytime soon. I would be hard pressed to say this was an intimate place since some of the tables are way to close together, but if you get a table by the fireplace, or away from the four two-seaters that are close to each other, I think this would qualify as a romantic evening. There's another part of this restaurant that is equally nice. I wouldn't say its a sports bar, but very casual and I'm sure on a friday night,, being so close to DU, the atmosphere will get loud. But the food was great. I had the spare ribs and it was nothing less than perfect. The burgers are good size portions and tasty. It's our go-to place..until it get's to popular which I'm afraid will happen sooner than later.

My husband and I were really excited when we saw Atticus was coming to our neighborhood.. The DU area desperately needed something other than fast food and college bars so we had high hopes. Took them a couple of tries to work out all the kinks, but I think they've found their stride. The dinner menu is ever-changing and eclectic.. You should try the Butcher's Block, the Eggplant Hot Pot, the fish tacos and the oven roasted chicken. The portions are a bit on the smaller side, especially for the price point, so if you have a big appetite you may need more than one dish, but everything we've tried so far has been good. Wine list is also pretty extensive and after 9pm they do half priced bottles. Definitely worth checking out for dinner and drinks if you're in the area!

I took too long to update the review cannot remember what we all had. After looking at the menu I had the short ribs which sounded awesome and flavorful. It was pretty boring. Bunch of us went for my daughters birthday dinner. We all hoped we would have enjoyed it just as much as we did their lunch, but we did not. Everything was just ok to good.

Atticus offered one of the best meals I've had in recent memory. Inside has a cool and masculine lodge-meets-bistro vibe. The cocktails are superb. I enjoyed a vieux carre to start the evening and was lucky enough to end the night with a taste Atticus' own barrel-aged Manhattan, which the owner, Rob, was kind enough to let me sample, right after trying it for the first time, himself. While the drinks were great, the food was the real star here. Not being a huge lamb fan, it was a leap of faith to order the Colorado Lamb after the waiter suggested it. Not only was it PERFECTLY cooked, it was so tender and flavorful! We also shared the Butcher's Choice, which I can only assume changes from night to night. This night, there were no complaints. It allowed us to try the pineapple-ginger marinated flank steak which was phenomenal. The lamb slider was incredibly flavorful topped with the best tzatziki sauce I've ever had. Finally, the smoked rib was fall-off-the-bone tender. The roasted cauliflower that accompanied it was stellar as well. Atticus was wonderful. I can't wait to go back and try their brunch.

Wow we came in for brunch/lunch and we were so impressed. The food was amazing I had the grill chicken sandwich with goat cheese and my husband had the breakfast burrito. Both were amazing the green chili in the burrito Was great flavors. My chicken sandwich was wonderful and I had the simple side salad with blood orange vinaigrette. We can't wait to come back for dinner.

Before dinner at Atticus, I read a long, even-handed but candid review citing some "growing pains." Still, I went in as tabula rasa as I could, determined to form my own opinions. You know when people describe something as "solid" and you're like, "What does that even mean?" I think now I know what it means. It means adequate. Good. Food that's tasty but not mind-blowing. Service that's friendly but just a touch passive aggressive. Acoustics that work but not if the place is too crowded. Solid. I do think Atticus will improve with some time and effort, but in the meantime I'll wait.

So, I have been here 3 times in the last two months and I would have to say I love the food, drinks and its close to my home. The bartender was awesome at suggesting drinks, food, and very friendly. The first time we went the food took a little longer due to them making a mistake in the kitchen cooking the pasta, so they gave us a few free drinks and were very apologetic. Needless to say the food was soooo worth the wait! The duck will change your life! Ok so the only reason for the four stars is I went for brunch one day and the short ribs were a little salty side. The drinks were amazing as always. I will keep going here for sure! Price is great.

I wanted to love this place...oh, it is so needed in the area. But alas..... The mussels were the size of a whale. I can't get something that big in my mouth, let alone enjoy one. Disgusting. The fish tacos...I'm not sure what Jack fish is, but it isn't yellow tail tuna and thus shouldn't be served raw. French fries shouldn't need Viagra..these are limp limp limp. And amazing....they have one of the top of the line expresso machines that somehow manages to spit out almost cold expresso...how do you do that? This is a bar....not a restaurant. Have a beer, have a vodka.....but if they have to cook it, don't eat it.

A group of seven non-planners landed here after deciding to do a birthday dinner on short notice. They were able to accommodate us on a Saturday night at a reasonable time. Some were tentative going in, expecting it to be Boone's, but it turned out to be a perfect pick. The decor is warm and inviting - cozy enough for an intimate date but also workable for groups or those who are passing by for a drink. It's small, so I'm glad we had a reservation and could be seated right away. The drinks were perfect. My boyfriend decided it was the best Manhattan he has had, and others enjoyed their cocktails too. As the birthday girl, I was gifted a drink of the bartender's homemade Amaro - something I was unfamiliar with until that night. It was delicious and a real treat considering the source! Also, if you do not see a drink on the menu, the bartender is able to create something fun and interesting based on your preferences. Really hard to go wrong here. The food was good. The standouts were the chef's board, skirt steak and lamb sirloin. The scallops were pretty standard (still good), as were most of the appetizers. The butcher's choice was great - except the diner didn't get an option on how well he wanted his steak so it was a little more done than he preferred. The mussels were good, but tiny (not sure if that was intentional or just the nature of mussels right now). Dessert was tasty, having gone with the peach panna cotta and chocolate cake. Service was good - a few times the waiter had to check on questions, but we appreciated his diligence in making sure we were correctly informed. The bartender and executive chef both checked in on our table to ensure everything was to our liking, which illustrated their pride and desire to serve their guests. I would definitely return, as it's a nice alternative to some of the more popular spots in uptown or downtown.

I went with a party of 6 for brunch. The space is hip, and a little loud. The service was slow, especially considering how many empty tables they had. A few of us tried their pork belly, but found it tasted like a bland pork chop. My benedict had chili hollandaise, but there was so little of it I couldn't taste it through the egg yolks. I borrowed the salt and pepper from a neighboring table and everyone at our table jumped on them like vultures. All our dishes lacked seasoning, and portion sizes were tiny for the price. My husband got the steak & eggs, the priciest thing on the brunch menu, and the piece of steak couldn't have been more than 3oz. Very underwhelmed, especially considering all of the great reviews. Maybe dinner is better.

We went the Friday of the 4th of July weekend and it was (as expected given the holiday) pretty quiet! That just meant we got really nice service, tasty apps, well prepared entrees, and some delicious cocktails. While I can't say I'd go out of my way to come back if I lived far away, I'd definitely hit it up again if we were in the neighborhood. A good neighborhood joint in an area really needing it. So long as they keep it up this place should build in it's popularly in no time.

The neighborhood surrounding the university of denver has a new player in the dining scene game, three week old atticus. This neighborhood spot, on the corner of evans and downing, is serving up their take on american cuisine with a comfort twist in a cozy dining space. Atticus' menu has a bevy of craft cocktails (try the razzle dazzle), small plates, seasonal salads and hearty entrees. The prosciutto wrapped prawns are definitely worth ordering on your next visit to atticus. Crispy prosciutto is wrapped around sweet prawns and sauteed in a fabulous sauce until cooked through. Served on top of a crispy jasmine rice cake and a fresh bok choy salad, the dish has balance of both flavor and texture. I will admit the service is a bit slow but I am guessing that atticus is still working out the flow between front and back of the house. Regardless, the prawns are a great way to start your next meal and I know I will be back soon to see what else atticus is producing in the kitchen.

DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! My husband and I went to Atticus for Sunday brunch a few weeks ago (on 6/14/15). Due to issues in the kitchen, we waited 2 hours to get our food. 2 hours!!! The manager was understood our frustration and comped our food as well as extended an additional compensation for a dinner later that week. We believe in giving second chances so we happily made reservations for the following Saturday with the special "note" he had told us to put in. Last Saturday was our reservation and we left extremely disappointed. The server nor the general manager knew about this special "note" for a dinner that was supposed to be free to us. We were given a discount, but not at all what was promised to us. The response when my husband pushed them on not following through with what we were originally promised was "That manager has a lot of anxiety. He overreacted." Not apologizing about them not following through with their end of the deal, not asking if they could look into it....simply throwing their own manager under the bus. Since then, my husband has repeatedly tried to call the original manager and no one has returned our call. We were extremely disappointed and will not be returning.

Not the worst place in the world, and certainly a refreshing new environment for the DU area, but I doubt I will be back. I've now been here a couple times and found it disappointing. The drinks were not particularly good, the food overpriced and small in portion. I feel that this place is trying to do "too much." I can appreciate what Atticus is going for, with being local and all that, and In no way were these fully negative experiences, just disappointing. The kitchen and bar were both "backed up" and so we waited for 15 minutes for our less-than-mediocre drinks, at 8 and 9 dollars a pop, and then another half hour for our cheese plate. The waiter was very nice and well-intentioned, thought he forgot part of our order. I would too if I had to remember 1,000,000 different "creative" items and specials for the day. Simplify and get good at something, and this place would be successful in the area. It's a neat looking place on the inside and a refreshingly different vibe than anything else in the area. I've heard the happy hour is good, but haven't been myself, maybe this would change my opinion somewhat.

We checked this place out because of the high rating on opentable. We made our reservation for 2 and when we got there, they showed us to an 2 person table in the corner that you couldn't even get to because the adjoining table's chair was flush against it. The waiter even was embarrassed and offered us the option to eat at the bar or at a high top bar table which is what we opted for. So first impression with seating was not that great. Decor of restaurant was definitely very hipster. We ordered the chef's board which came with 2 meats, soppressata and proscuitto, and a medley of 3 cheeses: a yellow rind cheese that was like brie, a cubed blue cheese, and crumbled blue cheese, olives, pickled onions/red and green chiles, crusty bread, salted almonds, and honey. I was just sad that they didn't make any meats themselves...other places have homemade pate or pressed meats like the french are so found of. my husband had the lamb which cost $26 and was very small...almost medallion like in size. I had the clams, mussel, and chorizo fettucine and must say it was tiny. The pasta was small and the sauce was more a broth than a sauce. After we paid our bill which was almost $100 for 2 people (and I was still hungry), the manager did come by with some free drink tickets to make up for the crappy table experience but that would have been better to give us at the start of our experience. Not sure if we would come back to use the drink tickets since were were not completely sold on the food. Fancy but I don't think they pulled the flavors off.

New restaurants fail as fast as they appear.. One if the signs of a good restaurant is that they have the food readily available on their menu and that it's good. It's the 2nd time that they didn't have the Green vegetable drink so I asked for the orange carrot drink. The large quart sized container of pre-made carrot drink went sour so I opted for the less desirable red beet drink. Note: when you're drinks go bad, and there's plenty left, you can FILL it to the Brim and not an inch below it. I was told that this is policy, but when you're "freshly" made drinks go sour on you, I don't think you have to worry about scraping an inch off the top of the cup for profit?! For a high cost of $5 and change, I think you can live with filling it up... Suggestions: Maybe make the juice as it is ordered and fill it to the brim... You will have happier customers! :D ps... I dint know about the rest if the menu, but last time when I got the biscuit w/ egg & bacon, the biscuit was meH. I ordered the greens with it but had to ask for it in place if the potatoes when my plate came. This place needs to Step it Up more then a few notches! ------------------------- see below------ REDEEMED!!! 3/29

So glad I gave Atticus another try! Yum! Patrick makes a mean bloody mary and was great about finding a dish I could eat without meat. So delicious. The Pico is awesome!! The other server, Jenn, has such a sweet presence and was very attentive. If you haven't tried Atticus yet, do it. It's a great little neighborhood restaurant with awesome decor and a cool, comfortable vibe. I will definitely be back.

I have been to this new DU spot 6 times now. The more I learn about this place, the more I think it has what it takes to become a staple in Denver. My first visit was for a quick lunch and chance to check out what this new place was up to. 2nd best french onion soup I have ever had, some awesome cold pressed juice, and a promising wine and cocktail list. Take 2, dinner out with the parents visiting. They accomodated a last minute change to the reservation time, had our name on chalkboard with a table set aside, and delivered on every aspect of dinner. Corey displayed some really good attention to detail, and little things like refilled water and hot coffee were spot on. Take 3, dinner with girlfriend's parents....eeek! Coincidentally, same table, same little chalkboard, same server....interesting. The mussels, the bruschetta, the lamb, and french onion, all as good as the time before. Corey did a great job again, this time while handling ( in my opinion ), a tough customer in my girlfriend's dad. Take 4, I am sucker for a good breakfast burrito, and have always thought Gaia bistro had best in town, well this burrito gives it a run for the money, and it's all in the green chili, just be careful of the 'hot' setting on this bad boy, it gets really hot. Take 5, Kentucky Derby party. I heard about their party through the Bridge Project (a local non-profit) at DU. They closed the entire place and the bar next door to host about 100 people. They offered up a solid buffet, had a horse racing game, and some blind draw 'gambling' and a live auction that all benefited the charity. And finally, yesterday for lunch, and to my pleasant surprise, they had recently changed their menu! I thought the opening menu was good, but this menu takes it to another level. The hanger blue sandwich was a perfect lunch for a carnivore like myself, and my lunch date found her portobello salad to be a great lunch option. I appreciated the way our server was quick and had our check ready as soon as we finished, but didn't over do it. She also was nice enough to show us the new dinner menu, which I cannot wait to try. I will update this review when I've had a chance to try the new stuff

Love this place! We stopped by for coffee and ended up ordering breakfast. It was a chilly morning so I ordered hot chocolate. Its made with Ghiradelli cocoa and was fabulous. The breakfast burrito was delicious and substantial - I took half home and enjoyed it again the next day. The staff is extremely friendly and outgoing. We really felt at home and thoroughly enjoyed our time at Atticus. Looking forward to going back for lunch soon.

Went here for brunch on Sunday and the food was great. Unfortunately, we had to wait for an hour to get it as the head chef and sous chef didn't show up for work that day. Despite it not being her fault, our waitress was beyond apologetic and did everything in her power to make our dining experience memorable. Great service and would absolutely go back.

As a veteran of the restaurant industry of over ten years and a diner all my life this was the poorest execution of a menu I have ever experienced. The service was great. The atmosphere even better, and the cocktails delicious. The food was honestly the worst experience I have had. The pork belly was served in two pieces, one was as tough as a shoe and the other was still a little raw. The tacos were served with jalapeños you grab at the grocery store. Also got the hot pot of "Brie". Not sure what that was suppose to be, but it came out looking like porridge. Finally to top it all off the short rib came out and before I even put a utensil to it I knew it was under cooked. Sure enough i stick a fork in it and I proceed to saw it apart. By the way I don't just have yelp muscles, I totally let my server know how terrible the food was. I would never recommend this restaurant until they get a new "chef".

We arrived at 6:30ish on a weeknight and the restaurant was half full, we were asked if we had a reservation and when we said "No", the Host gave us a rude look and just walked away? That was weird. A few seconds later a waitress came up and greeted us/sat us down. Following that the service was good so no complaints there. -We ordered the calamari bruschetta. It was soggy and lacked flavor although the basil/tomato/balsamic mixture on top was decent -I ordered the spaetzle and had quail added to it. While the quail was cooked well and decent tasting, the spaetzel was bland. When I say bland, I mean blander than I thought possible in life. I didn't want to send it back because I was really hungry when we arrived and didn't want to wait for another dish to be prepared so I asked for some pepper-which they brought but it didn't help. -Our waitress did offer to comp me a dessert but I was really in the mood for a good, warm dinner, wasn't in a dessert kind of mood. She did give me a free drink which was appreciated -I will spare you the details but my cohort got the hanger steak and it was nothing special either. I'm hoping they are working the kinks out.

My husband is a graduate student at DU, so we were excited to try this new spot out for brunch with a group of his grad school friends. While the atmosphere is lovely, and the menu lists some great sounding options, the execution is lacking from delivery to your table, to taste. As others have mentioned, the wait time for your food is rather long, we waiting about 30-40 minutes. Once we got the food, everything was pretty much just ok. I got the smoked salmon salad and it was fine, nothing to write home about. For the record, an ingredient was missing (cucumber). A few of our friends go the Chorizo french toast and I was able to taste it. It was good, but not outstanding, and a little limp. Finally, my husband had the pork belly biscuit, which I have to say was pretty terrible. The biscuit was very dry, the "pork belly" was one piece of bacon, the scrambled eggs were terribly under-seasoned. The potatoes it came with were LITERALLY french fries that had been tossed with some seasoning and red peppers to make a "hash browns". French fries for hash browns = lazy. Based on other yelp reviews, it sounds like this place generally has a problem with consistency and service. Both are very fixable and could be simply growing pains. With a great location, decor, and menu, they've got the foundation to turn things around. We'll see if Atticus can deliver.

Our experience was good. The atmosphere was perfect, it was sophisticated yet artistic and laid back. Their menu had nice options and the waiter was friendly. The food was the let down however. I ordered the Quail which came with butternut squash purée, yellow squash pieces, and black berry sauce. That basically that's all it was with little flavor and the plating wasn't very appealing. My group (5) ordered, the steak, Ciopinno, and spaetzle and all said it tasted good but no one was overly impressed. We had their two desserts of lemon curd and berries as well as the root beer float and they weren't very great. The lemon was grainy and too thick. So if you go don't order dessert. We had a great time meeting together as a group and the atmosphere was good but the food wasn't very impressive.

Excellent food, terrible service. Sat at bar, it was dirty and took 15 minutes to order the first drink. Have had much better seafood pastas, way overpriced for such a small serving.

Adorable little spot, and a great addition to this area! Service was fantastic. The drinks from the bar were fantastic. We only stopped in for drinks and dessert. They had nothing gluten-free on the menu (being Celiac, it's not a choice, it's a necessity), but they offered to make me a special dessert using their house-made Earl Grey ice cream, which was fantastic. Haven't had a chance to eat there for dinner yet but it looked wonderful. Can't wait to see more from them!

I really really want to like this place, but after our 4th try we've given up. While the food is good, the service as been awful. Whether for brunch or dinner, you're always trying to track down someone. Our most recent dinner took 20 minutes to get cocktails on the table. We were offered free coffee cards after our $180 dinner for 4. No thanks. When the service matches the food, we'll give it another shot.

They are really figuring things out at atticus. After a few ok brunches or dinners, we have had back to back awesome meals. The staff and food was great and they make or recommend the perfect beverage. We are heading back soon.

The food was delicious... They have a great happy hour but don't be fooled when the happy hour menu says "any wine over $10 is half off" does not mean a bottle. Our waitress up sold us to a bottle saying it was cheaper but when we got out bill it Was the full price! No where on the menu did it specify glass verse bottle.

Wow, the cauliflower steak was amazing and so was the pea flan! I find it hard to find good vegetarian dishes at the farm to table resturants here in Denver, but this has a nice variety ! Owner was extremely kind and the bartender made us a few really great drinks . Will be back !

Food was just OK and half of the service was good. My husband and baby went with me for breakfast. We got there an hour after it opened and were one of two tables. Our first server was not friendly and did not seem to know anything about the menu. We ordered the waffle of the week and it was nothing special. I realized they never gave us the bacon that should have come with it. Second server was much nicer. Croissant sandwich was good but waited a long time for our food. Much better breakfast places in Denver.

Another nice neighborhood spot, along the lines of the Plimoth or Table 6, but not really sure of what it wants to be yet. I was confused pretty much from the moment I walked in. Atticus is attached to its sister restaurant Boone's Tavern, but there's not much to distinguish the two. Matching bars? Check. TVs with sports on? Check. High top tables in the bar area? Check. Long drink menus? Check. It's only when you begin to read the menu that you get a sense that they are trying to do something a little different at Atticus. The food is elevated from standard bar food. There's a cheese and charcuterie board, and much of the menu describes house-smoked meats and fishes. A special spaetzel of the day is intriguing. There's a farm-to-table vibe to the food offerings. We ordered light because we there to have a drink after a long day, and the food they sent out was overall disappointing. We had the calamari and bruschetta starter, and it had an almost chemical tasted to it that was barely masked by the tomato of the bruschetta. My wife still liked it, until it got cold and soggy. Also, the plate presentation of entrees is pretty appalling, almost like a tray of hospital food. I ordered the hangar steak, and it came out with soggy lukewarm vegetables on one side and plain roast potatoes on the other side of a meager portion of meat. (I didn't take a picture but you can look at the pictures on Yelp and see what I mean.) It must have been no more than 5 ounces of hangar steak sliced thin on the plate to make it look like a larger portion and there was a huge blob of herbed butter on top which wouldn't melt because the steak was so cold. The pork belly brussel sprouts that were described on the menu were missing and no explanation for their absence was forthcoming from the server. I had asked to have pomme frites (which I saw were offered with other dishes) instead of roast potatoes, but the server declined, saying it was Restaurant Week and there were no substitutions unless I wanted the french fries from Boone's Tavern. What??? And what's with the attitude? She never even told us that there was a Restaurant Week offering at the restaurant, so if she was pissed off at us for walking in off the street and ordering off the menu, it was her fault because that's all she ever told us about. And isn't that the point of a neighborhood restaurant, that you can walk in at the spur of the moment and get a warm friendly meal? Anyway, she walked away from us mid-question a couple of times just to really show us she was ticked off but we never really had any idea what we had done to get that reaction from her. By the end of the meal, she was perfectly nice so maybe it had nothing to do with us, but we were the ones who had to ride the roller coaster of her emotions. We'll give it another try, but if this was Atticus's idea of being a neighborhood restaurant, they're going to have to go back to the drawing board.

This place has bottomless mimosas for $13. That's the main reason for the 4 stars. Service is so-so along with the food. The atmosphere is strange but you get used to it I suppose.

Love this place! Gourmet, 17th ave food at neighborhood prices. The food at Atticus is fresh and well prepared. VERY good wine selection both by the glass and bottle. Neither the menu nor the wine list is extensive but they've done a great job in presenting you with quality, varied and delicious options.

I have been curious about this place b/c I drive by nearly every day. When I read that it was from the same guy that does Table 6, I decided to try it out. I made a reservation for 6 at 6:30 and had a nice table all set up and waiting for us. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, jokey and knowledgeable. Food was good. I only had the calamari and bruschetta (delish!) but the rest of my table had a mix of appetizers and entrees and everyone was pleased with their food. We went for happy hour, which was maybe a little bit of a mistake because they didn't seem to have great happy hour specials or drink specials (but we arrived at 6:30 - so we may have missed those). Fairly pricey overall, but I enjoyed it. Atmosphere was lovely! They have extra parking available after 6:15 at the bank across the street, which is nice.

Decent place to go if you're on a date or wanting a semi classy evening with friends. That's the general vibe of this restaurant. If you're really into bourbon, this also may be the place for you. The whiskey is delicious and there are several interesting cocktail options involving it. Otherwise, the beer selection is small, the wine selection is expensive but longer than the beer list. The food itself is nothing to write home about. The service was fine, but it took a while for our order to come out (even our drinks). Overall this place looks much nicer than it actually is. I remember just feeling not comfortable here....not easily able to just relax, as one might hope to do when grabbing drinks or small bites with friends.

so happy to say i had a much better brunch experience at atticus this time, primarily because of the service, which was less than good on a former visit. alex was awesome! I love to strike up some rapport with anyone i interact with (like atticus finch) and alex was game. attentive, fun and engaging. the menu has changed slightly since my last visit. I had pork belly benediction with a chile hollandaise which was flavorful and delicious. my companion had the breakfast burrito smothered in a tasty green chili with just the right amount of heat. the bottomless mimosas are generous but a little spendy. the muffin bites delightfully presented. I'm now excited about this spot in my 'hood and looking forward to returning for dinner!

I have been 3 times and continue to have exception experiences. The ambience is warm and cozy, the staff is friendly and very on the ball, and most importantly, the food is delicious, fresh, inspired. I'm so happy this place exists.

We just tried this place for lunch. We split the apple and brie sandwich and the chicken curry sandwich. Both were amazing, but I've been dreaming about that brie and apple sandwich! The decor was lovely and the prices were very reasonable. It's so nice to have a nice, inexpensive place for lunch within walking distance of DU!

We have been here for both brunch and dinner. Both times we had incredible, friendly service. The manager overheard us commenting on one of the many drinks they had on the menu and gave us one free of charge to try out. The food is very tasty, fresh ingredients, and well proportioned. Atmosphere is comfortable yet also classy and has a barn wood rustic feel to it. Overall I couldn't be happier with our experiences here. The food is great and the service much appreciated. I'd recommend for food or just a drink at the cool bar.

I'm shocked by the low reviews on this restaurant! It's clean, unique, creative, and friendly. The food is fresh and tastes delicious. I've tried several things on the menu and they've all been great. I especially love the Apple and brie ciabatta. The manager and wait staff strive to know you by name and go above and beyond to make your experience enjoyable. I would recommend this place if you're looking for a down to earth atmosphere and a great meal...there's something for everyone.

Had to stop, since my son shares the restaurant name. Very pretty place. Came on Sunday afternoon. Nice lunch/brunch menu with unusual choices. When I got here they asked me if I had a reservation, which struck me as odd since the place was nearly empty. Food took a while considering there were only a few tables seated. Son had the special waffle, which he liked a lot. I had Colorado Benedict, which was yummy, though the tomatoey stuff on it had a mushy consistency that put me off, but it tasted good. Nice and bright with a cute full bar and a patio. A rustic fireplace that would be super cozy in the winter. Very new and with new chef. We look forward to trying it again! Maybe an evening on the patio :)

Oh Atticus. We wanted to love you. So much so that we braved you twice. But alas, it's not meant to be. We went for brunch during their first week so cut them significant slack. However, the food came out like warm and missing key ingredients like bacon on a bacon and egg sandwich. The service was spotty and the waitress made us feel like we were inconveniencing her by being there. And there were only two other people in the restaurant at the time! However, since we were so looking forward to a nice restaurant in our hood full of college bars we decided to make a reservation for dinner for four during restaurant week. Dear lord what a mess. We were seated 30 minutes late for our reservation and not provided Denver restaurant week menus. Our waiter was so rude when we asked for them it seemed like a joke. After finally ordering, it took another 35 minutes for the first course, a pre made cheese board... It just kept going downhill from there. I've never had such a bad waiter in my life. Every thing we asked for was met with resistance and extremely rude behavior. We ordered a bottle of wine that they were out of and so he tried to up sell us to the $80 bottle and then rolled his eyes when we ordered a bottle in the $30 range. After we finished that bottle, we were never offered more wine and our water was never refilled. We finally spoke to the manager and he did his best with free wine and a drink he made the mistake of calling a mood enhancer but the damage was done. The food was nothing spectacular either. I understand in restaurant week, portions are smaller but wasn't that the whole reason they raised the prices this year? The beet salad was literally two pieces of beet. And the beet salad, lamb and chocolate raspberry cake all had the same raspberry gravy sauce. It was ok on the first two but it was way to savory for the cake. My husband ordered the spaetzle and it was so bland and disgusting he sent it back after one bite. It tasted like dish water. We really wanted to love Atticus but we will certainly never be back. I'd advise anyone to save their pennies and go somewhere with good food and good service, like tag or humboldt farm. Atticus is a waste of money, time and energy.

My husband and I went there with a friend from out of town last Saturday night. We finally were using our wedding gift gift card. We spent an ample amount of money in addition to the gift card. The meal was fine and we had an enjoyable time. The waitress was attentive; we had great service and tipped well. My complaint is about being charged for refills of tea. We were not made aware of this policy beforehand and it came as a shock. We are not cheap people as evidenced by the amount we spent but it kinda ruined the whole appetizer, main course, dessert experience. Now this is how I remember our great neighborhood restaurant. The waitress did remove the refill tea charge but SERIOUSLY!

I was hoping for a fab new neighborhood spot, but this is not it. The food is trying to be high end, but the menu shows how little the cooks (def not chefs) know about food and pairings, for example, the charcuterie plate consisted of mismatched olive tapenades, mortadella (aka bologna), grocery store salami and basic cheeses. Our waiter was a someone out of a David Lynch movie and our neighbors kept trying to talk to us. I'm not a fan of Boone's, and unfortunately, this is not making my list either.

I haaaate tomatoes. The raw kind. They're gross usually, unless they're at a perfect level of ripeness and the texture doesn't get too mushy and goopy. I ordered the Caprese Sandwich and it was pretty much the most delicious thing I've had in weeks. The Colorado Peaches were a great touch & really meshed with the balsamic reduction, fresh mozzarella, and yes, the horror upon horror, tomatoes. Really everything tasted fresh. Hubby had to guard his homemade potato chips jealously as I kept sneaking them off his plate. His Chicken Sandwich, also featuring the fabulous peach was also super tasty. I liked the whole shabby chic vibe & the music and everyone working there was super friendly and on top of it, although we were there around 2:30, so we missed any sort of rush. Overall a delightful surprise, and a much better choice than the Einstein Bagel right next to it I was initially planning on stopping at.

Went in for lunch one afternoon. I was sad to see how empty it was. Personally, I don't think this is a great location for what they offer here. The food was excellent. French onion soup, salmon salad, completed with a fresh juice. Decor is super cute and service was excellent. Again, I don't think they'll get the foot traffic they deserve. Anyway, I hope they do well, I know I'll be back!

My husband and I went here for brunch this past weekend and LOVED it. The food was delicious and the service was great too. I'm notorious for being one of those people who always ask for substitutions and accommodations for my meal, and I was so happy that the waitress rolled with my silly requests. And then it turned out perfect! We loved the waffle and breakfast burrito. Their spicy bloody mary was perfect!

Really like everything but the food. All the folks were real nice. The atmosphere was really fun. Even the menu although limited sounded good. We had four people. Two said the meal was moderate and two were very disappointed. We told the manager the food was tired felt very tired and neglected. He truly seemed concerned. So much so we are definitely going to come back and try again. Will update review then. Looking forward to see what other say. Hopefully our experience was just an oddity.

I'm not a major foodie so take this with a sip of the extremely well made cocktails at Atticus. I rate bars based on whether they do something extremely well. Be that a great beer selection, excellent wine list, or very well done cocktails. Atticus has a fairly good wine list but I understand they are new and will be refining that. The beer selection is very good for a non-beer bar and I anticipate that will rotate as time goes on. The cocktails basically stole my heart though. Fantastic old fashion (mandatory bar staple if you're from Wisconsin) and the specialty cocktails were excellent as well. My wife didn't realize old gin tastes more okay than the newer juniper taste gin has taken on. The bartender saw her make a face and even after she protested that she ordered it and would drink it he refused and got her a free drink on the house. I though the food was excellent when we had dinner there. The three meat selections when I was in were very tasty. I have been in 4-5 times for drinks and overall I think they are starting to get into the swing of things as a new restaurant. I am very excited to have a neighborhood bar with great drinks, amazing bartenders, and damn good food. I'll definitely be back here many times, most likely tonight.

I'm very surprised at the overall rating of this place on Yelp. One of the reviews gave 3 stars, but when reading it, it doesn't sound like it deserved even one (like mine). But, to each his (or her) own! Without diving into too much detail, I can assure you that this place is not worth the time or money it takes to eat there. I've been there twice now: once for brunch and once for dinner. Both times, the food was bland and overpriced, and the service ranged from absolutely horrible, to just "meh." The timing was waaaaay off (ridiculous amount of time between courses), and it tasted like the chef had never even heard of salt. Anyway, since other people seem to enjoy it, give it a shot if you'd like. But don't come back to me complaining when you're completely disappointed. PS - If you want a REAL and TASTY beet salad, go ahead and visit Kaos on Pearl. At least a billion times better. PPS - If you want a nice dinner out, save your money and head to Tag on Larimer downtown. This place has never disappointed us in any way.

Wonderful ambiance, fantastic service, an eclectic menu, and of course, the food was impeccable. We started off with the calamari con bruschetta, which.was delightfully crisp, clean and scrumptious. Then, for our entrees, we had the smoked trout and the coffee coriander lamb shanks. Both were beautifully done, and the sides were fresh, both in physical terms, and in originality. A+ in my book! Can't wait to get back here to try the rest of the menu!

I went to Atticus recently with a group for a working dinner. We realized as soon as we got there that it was restaurant week and that we were a bit out of our price range. We decided to stay for a round of drinks and then go next door to Boone's. The server and the manager were supremely classy and gracious about this, even presenting us with some appetizers on the house(corn flan was amazingly good--I'm a vegetarian so didn't try the seviche or the mussels but was informed they were also excellent). I was so impressed that although we didn't spend more than the cost of a round of drinks and took of a large central table for an hour, we were treated with generosity and class. Next time I go out to dinner, this is where I plan to go.

I was so impressed. Sunday brunch with 6 in your party (one of them 3 years old) can be tricky. Rave reviews from all of us. The service, the decor, the food - we loved it all. Especially the bacon - thick cut and cooked to perfection, I was smitten. We lingered for 2 hours - we were not rushed. We rode our bikes, there is plenty of bike parking right in front. Delicious latte, too. My husband loved his breakfast burrito, and he is quite the connoisseur! I will be back for certain. Eclectic menu, fun atmosphere and servers. A great brunch experience. Thank you, Atticus! Don't go changin'!

I really wanted to like Atticus. Our Observatory Park neighborhood is filled with restaurants that cater to college students. We were thrilled to see Atticus move in within walking distance of the Park. I pictured a place more like Bolera or even a place that serves small plates like Root Down. My husband and I went for lunch. It was virtually empty except for a beer drinker at the bar--bad sign on a Thursday at 2:00. My husband ordered chicken salad. I ordered what I thought was a reuben but was really a hamburger. I even told the waitress I loved reubens! My bad for not reading the whole menu. She was very nice though and the service was very good. I'm afraid it's just an above-average bar food place that focuses on alcohol like all the other restaurants in that area, but I want the chef to prove me wrong on that. I'd like to give it another chance. It has the credentials and a great location. Please Dear Chef Owners, those of us who live in Observatory Park and can afford to eat at nice restaurants are jonesing for a nice restaurant in our own 'hood. We'll pay! Give us some good food and ambience. Please stop making us drive to Sushi Den and Linger! Please! You've got the stuff!

This place is fantastic, from the service by Sara to the food. We almost didn't come because of the mediocre reviews, but are really glad we did! We had the Butchers & Fishmongers choices, among other selections recommended by Sara. All were delicious. Sara even took the time to make our pregnant sister a special not-boring drink. The icing on the cake was that the owner and the manager came by multiple times to check on everything. True neighborhood feeling with amazing food.

Atticus was a very pleasant surprise. My husband and I happened to drive by it and stopped in for lunch. The food was very inventive and fresh - had the gazpacho and summer peach salad with a delicious lemony, perfectly emulsified dressing. My husband had the chicken tacos, which were also excellent. The service was super friendly and professional. One of the best parts of the experience is the space - reminded me of an old Boston or NY tavern feel with a super charming decor.

Five stars for food...one star for service. Waited 15 minutes just to have our drink order taken. Then 10 minutes after we put our food order in, the server came back to ask me what I had ordered! Finally got our food (after a table that was seated well after us already had their food) which was awesome, but when I asked for some mayonnaise for my sandwich the server said "gross!" Really, dude?! I'm not paying you for your opinion of mayo...that was tolerable even...but when he dropped off the mayo & said, "here's your side order of fat," that was totally unacceptable! I didn't go there to be insulted! The group at the table next to us seemed to know the manager/server or both, and they hung out at that table talking a good amount of time, which is fine but we felt ignored, especially when we finally got our check, sat there for a good 10 minutes + with a card out waiting to pay, then finally had to ask a girl busing a table next to us to take the check cause our server couldn't be bothered to. Would go back for the food but if we got the same server we'd definitely ask for a new one!
