The Dog Bar & Grill is a staple in Cuchara. We love this place!! They have excellent bar food, live bands on the weekends, and a awesome mountain atmosphere!!

Good food. Good atmosphere, good people and good times. Can't go wrong here. You stop in this one horse town you have to grab some grub from the Dog Bar. Beer is cold and food is hot. If life were in black and white you would think you were in an old wester movie. Give it a try you won't be disappointed .

When you are in a one bar in town, hopefully it's the best bar in town. Both technically this town has two bars and both at good and both are staples. The dog bar is must when visiting Cuchara. The people are nice and welcoming especially after a few drinks. The beer is cold and the drinks are just right. Still it's bar food and my body would rather just have a drink they have pizza and anything to keep your typical bar grower satisfied. If you want to get your legs moving stay for the band and get ready to laugh sing along and boogie. Libations optional but recommended to let your crazy side out! ( in a good way )

Hands down one of the most genuinely nice service experiences I have ever had at a restaurant. Extremely friendly service as soon as you walk through the door. It is a nice cosy place. Nice bar decor and atmosphere with a very large size deck. The food was also very good as well. You have a nice selection of bar food from good appetizers then burgers, sandwiches, and pizza. If you are in the area you have to stop by The Dog Bar!

We sat outside with the dogs and had a wonderful meal during a nice rainstorm. The burgers were great. I had the Chipotle burger and sweet potato waffle fries. The chipotle was not at all spicy, my only complaint. The burger was cooked to a perfect medium, the bun fresh, veggies crisp, cheese melted. The fries were crisp. My wife had the Mexican burger, also not spicy, with garlic fries. The garlic fries were quite good as well. We rounded out the meal with mud pie. It isn't made on site, but it was delicious. We loved our trip to the Dog Bar and will be back for sure!

Food gets a 3. Typical bar food. They added sweet potato nachos to the menu. They're interesting (waffle cut, with bacon and blue cheese). Pizza is okay, crust too thick, not enough sauce. Burgers are good. Fish and chips are good. Atmosphere is a 5. Sitting in the mountains, in a quaint old Colorado town, on the patio, slight breeze, blue skies, fluffy white clouds, drinking a beer. It doesn't get any better than this! Yes, and you can bring your (nice) dog to sit with you on the patio! You can leave your vicious pittbull-wolf-mutt at home. No dogfighting at the Dog Bar!

This is a great place to have pizza and beer and people watch. A band was setting up as we left, and a lot of people were staying to watch them, so it probably would have been a good time. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We had a pizza, which was light on the sauce and had a really nice, crispy crust. An order of garlic fries is huge, homemade, and yummy. We ordered the mud pie for dessert and it was really good. You don't really come here for the food, though, it's for the experience of hanging out on the patio and relaxing in a funky mountain town, and the Dog Bar and Grill is perfect for that. I will definitely return next time I am in the area.

This is the bar I grew up in, although it's much different than it was back when I was underage. The new owners, Cal and Karen, really got this place into shape with some revamping of the interior and the menu. The beer is your standard bar fare of domestics and Mexican lagers, and the food is burgers and pizza, plus a few other things. The pizza is a local favorite. There is usually live music on the weekends and a horseshoe pit along the side of the huge patio. Occasionally, I have seen bands preform on the patio as well as inside. It's a bar, but a family friendly bar, although you may want to leave the kids at home on a Friday or Saturday night. Locals and tourists alike come here as it's the only watering hole in the area. Due to this, I saw some some wicked bar fights back in the day, but Cal won't stand for any brawls. Therefore, if you're lookin' for a fight, you better take your arse to another bar. Dog Bar Beer Tip: this is some high altitude drinking, folks. The elevation in Cuchara is over 9,000 feet. I have had some absolutely side-splitting beer vomits here, in the parking lot, and on the stumble home. Shot-taker beware. Not only does puking suck, but regurgitated beer and bar food may attract bears.

I liked this place mostly because of where it was. Awesome area! Interesting because it doesn't look like anywhere I've ever been, looks like it's from a movie or something. I ordered a hamburger and it was pretty delicious. And everyone at my table seemed pleased. So I recommend it overall! Nice theme going on inside and large bar.

Driving from Texas to North Colorado and drove to Cuchara for 1 reason: The Best Burger I've ever had. No kidding. I'd heard the drive to Cuchara was one of the most beautiful in Colorado but I really had no idea. Spectacular! Suddenly you're in Cuchara and the Dog Bar is the center of the coolest little Colorado town. Rustic and so has that Colorado Mountain Cool vibe. Great Bar, great good and even gluten-free pizza ( which my wife said was really really good). We went next door to the gift shop and could've spent an hour. If you close your eyes and imagine a Rocky Mountain rustic Bar...this is it. Well worth the drive... Awesome. Checkout the deep fried pickles....you can eat way too many.

Sometimes the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The 2010 San Francisco Giants and the Dog Bar are two great examples. Sure one won the World Series without a bonafide superstar and the other has a cute dog on its patio but really they I think the analogy holds. I went a couple of times and always got the pizza,. It was delicious each time and sitting on the patio listening to the band and talking it up with everyone was just fantastic! We got the nachos once, which after pitchin horse shoes and drinking beer they really hit the spot. I like this place so much I bought a hoodie to remind me of it all year round. The Dog Bar might not work in Denver or Springs but nestled in the mountains in the lovely little town of Cuchara its a home run, even without any one thing that sets it apart from any other restaurant. The Dog Bar is a Champion in my book.

So cute! This little restaurant has delicious food and a nice, comfortable atmosphere :) All the waiters seem really nice, and ready to serve you, and there's a pool table in the middle of the room (only costs like a dollar!) It's a refreshing little place in the middle of an adorable small town. The food though, it's amazing! Hot, fresh food (they fry the onion rings beer-batter! best kind :) Really, if you're up there for some reason, go eat here! And then go to the gift shop next door!

Four of us went for lunch. Quesadilla was excellent, hamburgers cooked to perfection and French fries were nicely seasoned with garlic. Katrina provided prompt, friendly service. Our orders were served up within a very short time. Very nice ambiance. We'd definitely return.

This is almost the only place to eat right now in town but the service seems to be better as the prices rise. I like eating outside and always get a half shade half sun table to eat with my friend. The wine is reasonable and nice but nothing fancy about the dog bar. Dogs are still allowed but they need to be on a leash. The variety of food is good considering we are miles from anything and they always come up with a couple of new twists each year. I like fish and chips and not so much the pizza anymore as the crust can be not so good. The atmosphere is fun and you always see some locals that you know. Once and awhile the cowboys come into town and it reminds you of what it was like 50 years ago. They always have live music on the weekends so come and party if you don't want a meal. It's the only place in town so enjoy.

This is the best little bar and grill west of I-25 in Colorado. It doesn't get more authentic than the Dog Bar and Grill, in Cuchara, Colorado. The owners, Cal and Karen couldn't be more kind and it is obvious how much they love what they do. The bar is beautiful and the food divine. Try the wings for sure! Also the fried pickles. We are from Austin, so we know great food. I didn't get a chance to compliment the chef, but I know after you try the food, you will want to also. Don't miss this stop on your trip through the Cuchara Valley. So much fun! Sure wish I could run up there just for Super Bowl Sunday! Maybe I will. (Note to Yelp: This establishment is not in La Veta which is down the road, east of Cuchara.)

We spent last week in Cuchara. Beautiful Valley and very relaxing. Not much to chose from between Walsenberg, La Veta and Cuchara in the way of fine dining. Something that blows my mind given the volume of people there during the warmer months. We ate at the Dog Bar and the food, drinks and service were terrible. Most people in our party had burgers, chicken, sandwiches. No one enjoyed their meal. It was all way overcooked and just did not have any quality to the ingredients. The mixed drinks had good alchohol volume but were not good. Not enough ice. The beer on tap was good. Cold. Pizza was about the best thing. I can see why. Most of the patrons were ordering and eating Pizza. My advice to anyone eating here is to stick to Pizza and Beer and if your renting cabins make sure they have or bring a BBQ and plan and pack some meals. There is a pretty good Safeway in Walsenberg. Charlies in La Veta has groceries but way overpriced. Cuchara is awesome so don't let the lack of good food keep you away.
