Freakin Love this place. Just yesterday morning I walk by after a number of days in town. The fellow that met me, I told him that I just wanted to take a look. He gives me a sample of their tomato bisque, the soup of the day. Whoa!, that was really good! I came back later for lunch and was impressed by the friendly staff, great homemade food (great healthy selection), and really interesting place overall. If you are interested in a low key place for great food and no disappointments, this is the place.

If you're seeking out deli with amazing food and an friendly atmosphere reminiscent of a hobbit hole, this is the spot for you (Also great late night spot for any various restaurant/cafe needs, open 24/7 most days a week). Located on Pearl Street's west end, the yellow deli is somewhat hidden between a pet boutique and the Wet End Tavern, with only a small sign hanging above to indicate its's place -- It took me far too long to step inside this establishment. The restaurant boasts a near %100 level of in house preparation, where everything from the wrapped matte bars (delicious energy bars consisting of matte? nuts, and peanut butter, among other things) to the various breads are cooked, baked, and created in their kitchen Sandwich-wise: I would suggest the Deli-Rose, a delicious roast beef concoction accompanied by their secret sauce (ketchup based), or the Spring chicken. They're also known for their rueben which also happens to be very good - only wish it was bigger. If anything else stands out, it's their pecan salad, but more importantly the bread that is served on the side. A rich, buttery, flavorful piece of bread, of which I have no clues as to what it's called, comes default with any salad order, and when dipped in the salad's vinegary sauce, is outstanding. Service can be slow and non-responsive at times, but it's hard to feel rushed in the peaceful and warm atmosphere, especially after said dishes.

I'd probably give Yellow Deli 3 stars for being comfy and good food but I'm docking them a star for lackluster service today. It's a cute, comfortable place with a hippy vibe. The menu is limited - sandwiches, salads, some desserts. That's fine because we wanted a quick, light lunch. The service was not too good. Our waitress didn't ask us for our choices for optional items on the menu, e.g. whether we wanted chips or veggies with a sandwich, salad dressing. I could understand them not asking If there was a default choice on the menu but that wasn't the case. We waited a long time for a turkey sandwich and a chef salad, probably 15 minutes, and the restaurant wasn't particularly crowded. The waitress never came to refill drinks or give a food update. Another person, possibly the manager, came by and refilled our teas. The food was fine. Just wish the service was better.

We returned to the Yellow Deli, having had a good experience when we were in Boulder a year ago. Unfortunately, the food was not as good. One of us had a sandwich, which was good, but two of us ordered salads which were disappointing. I ordered a Cobb salad with turkey. The salad was primarily greens with 3 slices of pre-packaged turkey sandwich meat on top. For the price, the size of the salad was small. The other salad was equally disappointing. We won't be in a hurry to come back

The "chicken on the ranch" was delicious! If you're looking for a slow-paced, home-grown (literally) sandwich shop, then this place is for you. Enjoy!

Thank heavens for The Yellow Deli! Not only was the food delicious and filling, but they offer FRESH BAKED gluten free bread! Thank you!! Service was wonderful and friendly. The atmosphere was beautiful - lots to look at! I felt like I was dining in my grandmother's kitchen, which is nothing but a compliment! Thank you again for the wonderful experience!

Text a friend you are going and your expected return time because this place feels like it might have a trap door to a scary basement. The Reuben is delicious. Open late. If you dare.

Food was good. Service not so much. I was forth table in the joint, solo, and it took 15 minutes for first wait staff pass, and over 30 for my sandwich (which was good....). Nice enough place, just not quick. I also still prefer the Ruben at Lindsie's Deli down the street...

I don't prefer to eat here... I take my food to go. It's just a little too cozy for me! That being said the atmosphere is incredibly unique and one of a kind! Everything is ornate and made out of twisted wood. The chicken ranch sandwich is really good for lunch... I don't even no how to explain it. The cold teas are great too. You wouldn't find this type of restaurant in most towns... Just go and you will understand. I always forget this place is open 24hrs too...might need to take advantage of that in the near future!

Hidden gem of Boulder! Quaint, authentic, memorable, delicious - everything I'm looking for in a special place to enjoy with friends and for out of town guests. The food is always extremely fresh (the bread and bakery items are made in-house) & it's really refreshing to meet people that are truly passionate about the food they are making. Every time I go I find something new I am absolutely wild for. My favorite sandwich at the moment is the Deli Rose: warm corned beef (I didn't even know I liked corned beef), hot pepper jack cheese, provolone, onions, tomato, mayo, mustard, special sauce on an onion roll. I actually crave this for days after I eat there it is just so incredible. The soups are also quite good and the artisan bread it is served with is hearty and unforgettable. The full body buzz mate tea is also a must have. My favorite beverages are the peach mate, and green chai latte. The mate is also sold at the restaurant. Definitely don't forget to pick up some banana bread (deluxe banana bread is not only heated up for you but served with slices of fresh fruit on top). Be sure to check the hours before you head over.

This place fell off. Three to four years ago it was outstanding. There was a guy and his wife who used to work here and run it. Once he left to California this place started to suck. The only thing that's good here now are drinks. The people that work here think that there better then you, besides like two to three guys in the back making food and There's a real loser who works the phone and cash register that's a younger guy that's the rudest person I've ever meet. I hope this place leaves boulder. The cult (12 tribes)that they are in believes in hard punishments on children, like extreme abuse. The Yellow deli can rot in hell.

One of the worst meals I've had in a while. A sandwich I could have made better at home and a cup of thin, bland soup. I thought the staff were very friendly, but ridiculously slow, inattentive and inattentive- don't expect your water to be filled or your check to come in a reasonable time, but they are very nice. Come to find out this isn't a restaurant with professional staff, but rather a front for a cult trying to meet new potential converts- not making this up! This is a terrible "restaurant" and a sneaky scam. Unbelievable!

I went to yellow deli for lunch, and immediately found that their menu was not allergy friendly. Nearly their entire menu had items with either wheat, dairy or nuts. Only their basic salad and one smoothie had no allergy ingredients. I found the hostess an older hippy lady to be oddly friendly, as she sat next to me lazily on the bench and tried to accommodate our allergies while in the same breath telling us in the future they won't be able to adjust their menu. It just annoys me when a place only includes an allergy side without options, and then the pretentious hippies don't even offer proper health food, but yet think they are so enlightened.

One of my favorite places in Boulder simply because its the only place of its kind open almost 24/7. The food is good, the smoothies and juices are great. Although the service isn't as prompt as I would like it to be, everyone there is very friendly and the place has a very relaxed vibe. Perfect for doing some work, or winding down with friends after a night out.

I'm giving this 3 stars because when I first started coming here a couple years ago it was outstanding and lately it's been really lacking. To start on the positive note, the Reuben is hands down my favorite Reuben I've ever had. No thousand island and has classic yellow mustard on it. Their breads are absolutely incredible and I still can't figure out how everything at this place is so flavorful. Soups, salads, sandwiches, you name it, it's all so rich and full of that comfort food goodness that you can't put it down. Seriously. Now comes to the negative portion. The last 3 times I've come here the service has gotten progressively worse. They are always friendly but wait times are now about a half hour too long to go there for lunch during work, even when no ones there. The servers have gotten very weird. I know they're all part of this weird cult thing and that never bothered me. To each his own you know? But recently they have become a little too chatty Kathy and will spend so much time talking to us that they forget our order. They have proven completely incapable of splitting a check. On one occasion, we actually had to wait on our check because the girl who was our waitress was hitting on my friend! She actually sat down at the table when I was in the bathroom and took my spot so that she could talk to him and when I got back I was just standing there while she was sitting in my seat! Honestly though, their food is actually worth it. It's incredible and I still recommend this place to people regardless.

The sandwiches are great, not too spendy, the place is original, service is beyond nice. Yeah, it's a little "hippie" but at least it's not boring white rich west pearl boring. It actually has some character.

So glad I made the visit here. After some yelping decided to stop by after a run/hike through the flats and working up an appetite. Wanted something fresh and wholesome. Saw great reviews for the yellow deli and FRESH squeezed juice. After days of traveling and horrible food choices, I needed something fresh. When I went in I wasn't sure if I was to seat myself or wait. Was awkward just standing there so I went up to the to-go counter and got service there and was seated after that. This place reminds me of a hidden cottage underground that only local regs are suppose to know about. (My FAV type of places) Dim, all wood paneling with artistic murals and fixtures on the walls. Offers table/booth seating with small bar seating as well. The environment was cozy and the staff was extremely friendly. After explaining I had never been before they offered many suggestions. I decided on their cranberry cashew salad with their "everything" juice. The moment the juice hit the taste buds I could hear my body saying "thank you". Wasn't great flavor but a healthy choice. The salad was delicious. The house dressing was fantastic, the cut cubes of cheese in the salad make it perfect combo with the house dressing. Salad came with the house-made warm, soft and sweet pumpernickel bread. SO good. The owner/manager came by to introduce himself and shake my hand, which was an awesome touch. Ensured I was enjoying the meal and initiated conversation. Really appreciate the personal touch. All around great experience! Atmosphere is fun yet casual and relaxing, staff is friendly and meals are yummy!

To my surprise, I still haven't put a review up for this place, considering I eat here all the time. To preface by actual review, I will start with one statement: I don't like hippies. Patchouli was invented by satan. Jam bands are terrible. A lot of hippie food is terrible, and is really just compost disguised as food. (Funny, considering I work in Boulder, and did live here briefly in the 90's/00's) So, knowing that, I was a little terrified the first time I stepped foot inside the Yellow Deli. The decorations, the music, the crowd, the menu. I was overwhelmed. My inner hillbilly was telling me to run, but I continued on. That attitude last for about ten minutes. Until I tried the chilli and reuben sammich. Just perfection. I'm always satisfied with my meal there. I get the same thing every time. Everyone there is nice, and I've gotten to know them a little. So, I love this place. And it's on the same block as my work, so it's convenient.

Feels like you've at a café in the Shire, but with murals of smiling workers in agricultural settings.... Staff here are SERIOUSLY friendly, and it always smells like home-made soup on the sidewalk out front. I had the best waffle of my life, the syrup was made by reducing berries down to a hot beautiful mess. It was incredible. My husband got the egg sandwich - egg and cheese on egg bread. Don't order that. Feel like this restaurant is very Boulder.. Everything is as local and organic as possible, and they will offer you like 14 varieties of Yerba Mate. It has a really cozy feeling, open ALL the time, like maybe 24 hrs a day but closed on Saturday for the "Sabbath". This restaurant may be run by a cult....it's hard to say.Worth noting that these very kind people would take care of any weary traveler. Just go to feel like you are in another time and place.

The Yellow Deli has a calm, peaceful atmosphere to it. It's a good place to go with a friendly staff. Service has been really great every time I've gone. The Chicken on the Ranch is absolutely delicious. Really flavorful and fulfilling. Try the Peach Mate drink, really good and satisfying.

This is one of my very favorite lunch spots in boulder. I highly recommend the deli rose and a hibiscus iced tea. The service is friendly, the menu is simple but VERY fresh and flavorful, and fantastic ambiance. Feels like a hobbit house mixed with Little House on the Prarie, but with WiFi.

I got a coffee and the spinwich to go. The place is cute and the people nice, but the coffee was only okay, and the sandwich disappointing. I really like eggs and spinach, so I do not know why the heart of the sandwich did not come together. I am generally a fan of baked goods, but I didn't find the bun very tasty. I wound of tossing most of it.

I have visited here several times in the last couple of months. I got the "spring chicken" sandwich (I ordered mine hot because it was cold outside). Seriously, one of the best sandwiches I have had in a very long time. Fresh baked bread, quality ingredients, & speedy service. They will not let you change up the breads, sauces on the sandwiches because they are their "signature sandwiches" and that is how they are supposed to be eaten. I respect that & think it's pretty cool. Another reviewer mentioned the workers looking for "converts" for their religious practices. I have never once encountered this, and like I mentioned at the beginning of my review, I have been here several times. The workers were always very friendly & accommodating, & never once even brought up religion to me. I look forward to my next visit to Yellow Deli!

Love this space, the staff and the food! Outstanding fresh bread selections everyday. Save room for the cheesecake, it's my favorite dessert in Boulder ! Open late night if you're hungry for fresh, homemade food.

The most hippie place I've ever eaten at. Super chill and very New Age. That led to sub par service as they didn't check in to see how the food was and we sat a long time before we just asked someone else for our check. But the food was good (my picky husband even liked it) and the place got really busy around lunch so you know it's decent.

  • Clayton A.

I liked this place, my wife loved it, and my cousins had no complaints. Se dice winning in espanyol. The sandwiches here are truly great; I recommend the Reuben, but my wife's sandwich---whose name I forget--- was superb as well. We also shared a bowl of their tomato soup and loved that a mini-loaf of bread with a side of butter accompanied it. The soup was creamy, bursting with flavor and came in a sizable portion. I think it important to mention the reasonable prices for what felt like very healthy and nutritious foods as Pearl Street, where this restaurant lies, has a lot of high end establishment. This place certainly qualifies as a cheap eats spot.

Shared a bathroom with them for a while in the same building. Have caught workers there quite a few time not washing their hands after being in the bathroom.

This deli had healthy sandwiches and yummy smoothies. The ornate yet earthy decor with dim lighting and medieval music put me in a scene from the Robinhood. This is a great place to relax and calm your soul. I highly recommend.

Wow! Took a day trip to Boulder and found this place on Yelp for lunch. There was tables for 8 in a cozy atmosphere. We each ordered something different from the menu with Mate teas. Wow (again), everything was awesome! I had the Deli Rose sandwich and it was terrific! We each had to share a bit of the others. The iced Mate tea was the perfect compliment. Highly recommend this place when you're in Boulder! A+++++ Thank you!! We will be back!

Food was great, however our service was not. Our waitress left half way through our meal- assuming this because we never saw her again and had to ask someone else for water refills and our check.

wow. wow. wow. i ordered the Deli Rose and the Peach Mate. both were exceptional. Deli Rose is a roast beef and corned beef sandwich with a lot of tasty fixins including steamed onions all on a fresh onion roll. the peach mate was so much more than i was expecting ! so refreshing and flavorful. i would order both over and over again. the interior is so cozy ! it's fashioned from reclaimed barn wood and other trees. each table / seating area is different and fun. i came in on a Sunday evening. it was slow-ish when i arrived around 7:30p, but more people rolled in for food and studying. the staff seem to have a good time together - lots of friendly banter between them which makes it fun to eavesdrop between presses on the keyboard.

Things are always a-changin' on Pearl, but maybe The Yellow Deli has always been here and I just didn't know it. It's nestled in between two establishments in a way that reminds me of a tiny person sandwiched between two much larger people. (Think: tiny person sitting on the middle seat of a plane....) I went here during my lunch hour. I made it clear that I needed to leave by a certain time: would I be able to get - and consume - my sandwich in time? Yes, I would, I was assured. My sandwich (the Spring Chicken) was great. My companion's berry smoothie tasted great, I'm sure, but it was $5.50 for a glass. Wait, what? That's pretty much the cost of my sandwich. What does this smoothie do? Give me an extra brain? 20/19 vision? Sadly, the price of pricey smoothie wasn't on menu so there was no going back by the time the receipt came. Then the server, a very nice gentleman, had a problem ringing up our order. Like, he brought us the wrong card that my companion signed, then realized wasn't his. And then he brought over the correct card with the wrong receipt. And then.... and then, I was late getting back to work. But the sandwich was tasty... and so... that was that.

I just want to know that the customer service was amazing! I want to try the type of their chai and they told me let me sample it and it seems like they make everything there in it was just delicious and I had a very warm atmosphere.

i've been coming to the yellow deli for about five years, and today i decided on not returning. i have a service dog and as i walked in i was immediately harassed by a man working there. he told me most dogs lay under the table (i had my dog sit beside me), then he asked me how long my dog had been in training for (he's not in training), and he proceeded to ask inappropriate questions about me including what was wrong with me, why do i have him, and if he "was just my best friend i like to take everywhere." i told him he was being rude and asking inappropriate questions and i decided to get my food to go. the service took forever and i was so uncomfortable the entire time, i definitely do not recommend going there.

I love this place. A little strange but in a fun way. The food has always been good. It's worth going just to check out the vibe. A little cultish, prairie dresses and ponytails worn by the staff add to the atmosphere.

  • Isaac S.

Interesting place. I'm glad Yelpers recommended it, and I will definitely go back. Service was extremely friendly, and the food (cheese sandwich) was above average for the price. Good combination. The waitress knew it was my first time there, and she brought me a mango matte no charge. Very good. The only negative reviews I see on Yelp are from people who disagree with the politics / religion of the place. I didn't notice this. The only thing "in your face" is the very hippie writing on the wall, no literally, they have hippie stories painted on the wall to read. I found it entertaining more than anything. I'll be going back, and I'll bring friends if they want to see something extra-Bouldery.

So I was trying to yelp places to eat and I happened to walk by this eclectic shop and wandered in. I was instantly drawn to the uniquely hand crafted wooden tables and a cow hide covered solo bar throne which was perfect because I was traveling alone. The lamb sandwich was fantastic delicious and the Yerba matté chai iced latté was perfect for a hot summer day. Stopping by is a must I swear I was transported to froto baggins twist on a café

The first time I came here, I really didn't know what to expect. Certainly not your typical deli, but once I settled in it was a good experience. Menu is not overwhelming but has a good variety. The chili was pretty great. If it is your first time just be aware of the atmosphere you're walking into; not a place to take a loud group for some late night drunk food. My only complaint is the staff I encountered was either a little short with me or rather timid. A smile and a friendly hello could go a long way.

I've been here multiple times and will likely go here again. The food is delicious, I love their gluten free bread, the atmosphere is unique, cozy and warm, and they're open at odd hours when other restaurants are not. Their service, however, has always been slow and lacking in finesse. Don't go here when you are in a hurry on your lunch hour.

This was the first place I ended up visiting in Boulder, as my friend attending Naropa said she is sure to take all visitors here. I immediately loved it-- from the twisted, woody decor and the all handmade macrame to the dim, golden lighting and sort-of-creepy-yet-still-soothing instrumental music always playing. And then: I saw the yerba mate menu. I LOVE mate and I realized I'd found my personal heaven. The music was no longer so creepy. Wait-- and free refills too?? I could stay here for a very long time. I was all ready to join the Twelve Tribes cult that runs this place! My hubbie tried the banana bread the next morning when we went back. It was toasted and moist, almost like French toast. I picked up a mate energy bar, which I snacked on later in the week. I was trying to squeeze a third visit in but never made it back. :( My friend said there are other ones around the country and that the Twelve Tribes people go on pilgrimages to open new ones around the country...I sure hope Austin is the new destination-! I can't get a mate latte to save my life around here!

I stumbled upon the Yellow Deli while looking for another place. I never did find the other place nor did I care. My visit didn't start off very promising. A waiter acknowledged me after I'd sat down but after about 10 minutes I finally decided to inquire when I might be able to place my order. After his profuse apologies--everyone's entitled to a bad day once in awhile--he took my order. I found the ambiance to be soothing with warm low lighting and lots of curved, rustic wooden surfaces throughout the restaurant. The place is eminently cozy while also offering free high-speed WiFi. I hung out there at least a couple of hours and felt welcome to spend as much time as I liked there. Now if that were the end of the story I wouldn't give them 5 stars. Probably just 4 stars. But, when it came time to pay my bill, I learned the whole meal was being comped on account of their negligence! That more than made up for that that momentary lapse of attention. On a subsequent visit I had prompt service and another delicious meal. I can't recommend the Yellow Deli highly enough.

Amazing! Very delicious, fresh food at reasonable prices. The decor is very unique and awesome. We had a pina colada smoothie, fresh papaya juice, a cranberry cashew salad (which came with warm raisin bread), and the turkey pesto sandwich. Everything was delicious. Wish there was one in San Diego!

This is one of my favorite places in Boulder. Not only for their delicious sandwiches (try the Deli Rose or Spring Chicken), but also for the atmosphere. The wooden booths and tables, friendly service, warm lighting, and free wi-fi are so welcoming you'll just want to stay and hang out...and you can, 24/7. Ingredients in everything are top notch. If you are in the mood for a salad, the Cranberry Cashew Salad will not disappoint. I also brought one of their Gluten-Free apple muffins home once and it was awesome warmed up in the oven! Oh man...the more I write about the more I wish I was there right now! The Yellow Deli, I love you.

One of my Boulder pals dragged me to the Yellow Deli awhile back. Other than the fact that the facade belies what this really is, the sandwiches are decent and prices are reasonable for a Pearl Street address. Just don't let 'em shove their brand of religion down your throat.

Dropped in for a late night work session since Wi-Fi was down at home and I had to finish. I ordered a matte which the waiter kept filled for me throughout the night. I ordered the Rose Sandwitch and it was absolutely delicious. Super friendly service. I feel like I just spent the night in an inn in the shire. Top notch late night spot in boulder.

I like the wood decor and the food is great. But I became very uncomfortable when I read a tract near my table entitled " When the Spanking Stopped all Hell Broke Loose." Reading more about this "religion" i will no longer return. I feel hoodwinked that I have supported this deli in the past.

This place is a solid 4 stars, so I'm giving it 5 in hopes of bringing it up from 3-1/2. The food was priced well and delightful. The carrot juice was amazing. Atmosphere is as cozy as it gets. My only complaint would be that they don't carry beer or wine, but I'll live. I'll be back next time I visit Boulderl.

The Yellow Deli is a breath of fresh air in a town saturated with trendy, over-priced restaurants. The food is great. The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable. The Yellow Deli makes its own breads and rolls. The ingredients are fresh. Some things are healthy and some things are heart-stoppingly decadent (Lambwich..... lamb, egg, cheese, sauce on homemade Kaiser roll.....yuuuuuuum, but my cholesterol levels go up just looking at it!) They specialize in Mate teas. The servers are chill and super accommodating. Want separate checks for everyone at the table? No problem? Need something made a certain way? No problem. Decor/ambiance. Give this place five stars for being funky. Low light, carved wood tables, murals, macrame hangings. There is no place like it in Boulder. Plus, outside of being closed for their Sabbath (Friday afternoon to Sunday noon), this place is open 24 hours! I word about the religion thing..... I don't know why folks get so bent out of shape about the fact that the folks who run the Yellow Deli are part of a Christian commune. The Nepalese restaurant I go to has statues of Genesh in the entry and paintings of Krishna all over the walls. The Pho restaurant I go to has statues of the Virgin Mary everywhere. Are we so fragile that we are threatened by other people's belief systems? I've never felt like the Yellow Deli folks have pushed religion on me in any way. They are just living their lives like the rest of us.

The Yellow Deli might be a little off-putting to some because of its soothing instrumental music and cult origins, but once you settle in with a hot cup of tea and one of their fantastic sandwiches you'll feel like you never want to leave--and why would you, since you can get a bottomless cup of mate for a few bucks and free wifi?? This is also one of Boulder's ONLY places that is open 24 hours (most days, at least). I describe the Yellow Deli as "very Boulder" and love to take visitors here.

Really nice people. I love the atmosphere: padded wooden seats and benches that are like little nooks. They also have a "bar" where you can eat or drink non-alcoholic drinks. Apple cider was great. They have some kind of hibiscus drink that is really good too. The flatiron burger is vegan. They do have some kind of religious thing going on, but if that's what makes them put love into their food and atmosphere...I really like it. They will not try to convert you, or even mention anything of the sort. They might make you feel like you've stumbled into some kind of lovely, peacuful family picnic with delicious homemade food. Bottom line: Super sweet people working there, and delicious, real food. Love it.

I have nothing bad to say about the Yellow Deli. Instead, I'll just point out: -amazing fresh, healthy food -delicious (/interesting at times) beverages from maté to tea to coffee -unbelievably friendly staff -warm, inviting atmosphere and quiet instrumental bluegrass music (perfect for studying) -free wifi -outlets at every table (seriously!) -open 24 hrs (except for the sabbath) I can't imagine regretting coming here for a quiet lunch or study session.

The fiance wanted to try this place out, so we dropped in for lunch yesterday. We split the Reuben and Deli Rose- Both were tasty, but nothing super extraordinary. Service was quick & friendly. Overall- Didn't regret going by any means, but probably won't be running back any time soon.

Love this place! This was the first place I ate in Boulder after moving here. Last night. Had the fruit / yogurt / granola parfait thingy, and it was delicious and filling. If you don't like coconut, ask for it without that. Great atmosphere and food, I plan to go back tonight and make this a regular spot!

Sandwich was okay. Sort of a weird vibe that was off putting.

What a sweet place. And the only 24 hour diner worth going to in Boulder. You can get yummy, healthy food at 3am? Sign me up! You can eat said food in a totally unique, cozy environment? I'll take two! You can get free wi-fi, and outlets to plug into? Yes, yes and yes! Just don't try going anytime between Friday at 3pm and Sunday at noon, because they observe the sabbath and are closed that whole time.

We arrived in Boulder late at night and were looking for a 24/7 cafe or diner with internet and fell across the Yellow Deli. It was the perfect place! Our waiter was the friendliest waiter i've ever had. All the staff are open, cheerful, and personable too. The environment is warm and inviting -- rustic, earthy, and well-loved. I ordered a Peach Mate and the Spring Chicken sandwich and both were delightfully delicious. Ohh and the sandwiches come with what I believe are Cape Cod potato chips -- sooo awesome! The other reviews talk about this place being run by weird Christians of some sort, but nothing about our experience there reflected this. Christian or not, its simply run by a bunch of good-natured, unassuming, hippie folk that want to make you feel at home. If I lived in Boulder, i would soooo be a regular here!

The drink specialty here seems to be mate, and they serve it in a little French press. The food was quite good and the portions, quality and prices all lined up pretty nicely in my opinion. The staff are friendly, and it's open 24 hours most days of the week, which is a huge bonus. Also it has good wifi and outlets galore. I'm mixed about the atmosphere, which is very hippy/Boulder, and a little goofy but seems innocuous. UPDATE: maybe not so innocuous, the place is run by these guys: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tw… I don't know what their deal is, but this place is somewhat stranger than I thought at first. I like this place and I'm pretty disappointed to find out that it's actually a cottage business of what may or may not be a Christian cult. I'm letting my 4 star rating stand based on the quality of the business and regardless of their agenda, but read and/or visit and make up your own minds.

I don't know whether to feel sorry for them because they're trying, or just call it that the place is weird. The food is pretty good, but the people are dressed like they just stepped off the Mayflower. Maybe that's cool in Boulder though, I don't know.

This deli is not at all like Boulder. Boulder is fake hippie and pretentious and this deli was a breath of fresh air. I do not consider myself a hippie, but I am from Durango, CO and this was so typical commune style, hippie hangout. I went for the first time last night and it was bomb. The carrot cake was different- it had pineapples in it- but it was delicious, and the frosting, to die for. My boyfriend is insanely bored when it comes to sandwiches in this town and he just about married the Deli Rose sandwich and their homemade bread. The deli itself is almost totally carved out of wood, so it kind of feels like you're at a pub in Lord of the Rings, and they play sort of celtic piano music. Celtic piano music is obviously not my music of choice, but it is calming music to study to. Overall, this place is fantastically original and will transport you to a hippie haven.

This is a little gem - but of course, just about all the restaurants in Boulder are little gems! The Yellow Deli is small, cozy and nestled between a pet rescue shop and The West End Tavern. It is run by The Twelve Tribes, but don't worry about trying to be converted. If you like Bluegrass and country/folk, you'll enjoy their music as well. all their breads, muffins, cookies, etc. are made from scratch and are delicious. A recent vegetarian, I chose the Yellow Submarine, a vegetarian sub. I added avocado and havarti cheese to my sandwich. I also ordered their wonderful hibiscus cooler. The sandwich was huge and DELICIOUS, filled with sprouts, peppers, onions, greens and black olives and served with their spread of the week - a yummy sundried tomato spread. Hubby ordered a turkey and pastrami sub, equally good he said. We split a raspberry/coconut macaroon muffin that was sinfully delectable! I also ended up purchasing two boxes of their special Yerba Mate tea. The Yellow Deli is open 24 hrs. Sunday afternoon - Friday noon. Don't miss this for a casual, yummy, inexpensive lunch or dinner - as late as you want.

Eternity is a long long time. My recent visit was spurred because I bribed a friend into working with me for a lambwich. She had been lusting over this mystical creation for a while. This lambwich is less mystical than the restaurant where it originates, the Yellow Deli, a miniature hobbit town replete with bearded men (except 1) and ponytails. We thus ordered two lambwiches and hibiscus tea. The hibiscus tea had faint hibiscus flavor due to the overpowering sugar of its other flavor agents. The lambwich, while tasty, was overpowered by the secret sauce (1000 island??). I also wish the pretzel bun was made of firmer stuff. It fell apart easily and therefore demanded knife and fork for eating. Take two was a Deli Rose. Again, those sandwich innards are slippery things. I just want a sandwich that stays together so I can taste the entire flavor combination. If you're looking for a chocolate substitute, they make carob chip cookies. I didn't try one, but might later since I'm always looking for carob products. Cheap parking can be found outside Happy also.

Walking in I felt like I was in a time warp and transported to the 1970's. It's really cool! I especially like how their booths are set in these little, private nooks. The food was tasty. The white bean/kale/Parmesan soup was soooo good. It's a very unique little spot.

Yum. The Yellow Deli fits a niche that is missing in Boulder: affordable, delish, fresh eats in a down-to-earth atmosphere. When I first came here, I got the spring chicken sandwich and the banana almond milk, and they are both so good, I can't bring myself to branch out. I even dig the unique atmosphere, its such a refreshing change from all the places on Pearl where the waiter has tight pants and a mustache and looks over your head when he talks to you. I was hoping this would become a regular lunch spot for me. However, I now come with a baby. And I got the feeling, multiple times, that I was not welcome here with my baby. So sadly, I doubt I'll be back. Spring chicken, I miss you already.

Green iced mattes are best in town!! However atmosphere is kind of creepy, the people are a bit reserved which is okay but just to warn you don't be offended by their stand off attitude. Their mattes are AMAZING and 2.98 for a large one. I go almost every morning :)

I like the unique atmosphere ( like a cozy hobbit home). It feels very peaceful and the staff never makes you feel like you are staying too long, when coming with a book or to study . The fruit, granola & yogurt parfait is amazing and the veggie burger awesome (with lots of avocado and sprouts). The roibos latte and mate latte are unique and delicious. The staff seems very genuine. I am a fan of this place.

I loved it. The staff was SO friendly and it literally feels like you've walked into "The Hobbit." It is BEAUTIFUL inside!! And the Egg and Cheese on the pretzel roll-- an AMAZING combo with a little ketchup. An they are open 24 hours 5 days a week! Sure, there is a little bit of weird religious conversation going on behind the sandwich bar-- but its America, and freedom of speech and religion makes us what we are. They don't try to push their beliefs on you.

When I heard that this place was run by religious dudes with matching beards, I had to try it. I was missing one of my favorite bars: Bloodhound in SF, with all the beardy men and flannels. I had a veggie burger, which came piled high with sprouts, a ton of avocado, the chewy delicious fresh bread, and some sort of thin sliced onion spread on the bottom. I chose lentil soup as my side; it was more like minestrone with lentils instead of pasta, and it was delicious. The bf got some sandwich with many meats, and he wolfed it down. I believe he said that discovering this place was "dangerous" meaning he could eat many sandwiches. I decided to have dessert, since I was impressed and wanted to sample more things on the menu. We got the date bar, which had a cobbler sort of outside, and date spread on the inside. I've been thinking a lot about what I ate there, and how many other delicious things I want to try, so that's a good sign. When our bearded waiter came to take our money, he was carrying a baby, so that was pretty cute. This will probably become a regular lunch spot. For those of us that work downtown, in the service industry, we need variety, and I'm glad the Deli came to town.

I got a kick out of my first Yellow Deli experience. The place has a completely unusual feel inside, almost like you're in a tropical forest restaurant. The staff is totally bananas and not committed to schmoozing like most places, but somehow it just worked. My food was pretty good and I'll definitely go back sometime. It could not be more "Boulder-y"

Great sandwich place. Their creations are always delicious if not a little over sauced. The interior finishes are incredible. Lots of well crafted woodwork make it feel homey.

Awesome sandwhich shop. Really neat, smoky mountain feel to the interior design. Bluegrass music playing. The prices are average+ as the sandwhiches are around $8 and the salads are a little less. Pretty standard but the food was really good. I got the deli lamb sandwhich and my girlfriend got the cranberry cashew salad and we both loved it. The people were a little amish/hippie-esque but it wasn't anything obnoxious. Wish they had more outdoor seating. If you like sandwhiches and feeling like your in disneyworlds frontier land, I reccomend the yellow deli.

Love this place! Everything is home made from the bread to the restaurant. They specialize in Maté tea which they grow and harvest themselves from a farm in Brazil. Got the Mocha Mint Maté as well as the egg and lamb breakfast sandwich and everything was delicious. This place has a quirky relaxing atmosphere and I would recommend it to anyone.

Yellow Deli kicks ass. Recently I moved from LA to Boulder due to a job transition. I'm a coffee shop person, and I could never seem to find a coffee shop with everything I needed: - Free Wifi - Friendly Staff - Good, cheap food - 24 hours - Chill atmosphere - Not jam packed with tourists, college kids, homeless people, etc. Ladies and Gentlemen, I have found my haven. The Yellow Deli is my favorite place in Boulder and I would give a resounding recommendation for anyone in the area to come by for a Mate and hot Spring Chicken sandwich as soon as possible. As an entrepreneur, I give these guys serious credit. They are always happy, friendly, warm, and welcoming, regardless of whether it's 4:00AM or 4:00PM. I have set up shop for as many as 12 hours at a time with no hint of annoyance. It reminds me of a few places back in Vermont that I used to study at during college. Drink: Cold Peach Mate Lunch: Spring Chicken (hot) Dessert: Cream Cheese Pie with Strawberries (BOMB)

The lambwich was the bomb! My son loved the yogurt parfait and the granola was fantastic. The staff were very nice and made you feel comfortable and relaxed update 9-3-11, had granola at 2 other well profiled breakfast spots and yellow deli was by far the best

Two other people I know had similar experiences with this store. I once asked for pumpernickel bread on a simple sandwich (they carry pumpernickel) and they refused to do that since the menu for their only vegetarian sandwich did not include pumpernickel. They were extremely rude about it. Furthermore another time I was having a meeting with friends in the store, who were involved in Occupy and insisted we eat there, the management was very rude to them. The store is run by a group of fundamental cult like religious fanatics. I know one person who is Christian and from Kansas who when he arrived in boulder due to his beliefs they let him stay with them at their place. He is a guitar player. At first he said they were nice to him, but they asked him only to play Christian songs on his guitar and then said he could not own the guitar or play the guitar. These people are uptight and not friendly and do not understand their own religion. It would be ok if like most Americans businesses they did not impose their views on others or at least have good customer service and treat people equally, however they have no view of equality, but instead look down on other people based on trivial things like the way one dresses or not being just like them. If you read the magazines outside the front of the store you can see they really do not like anyone the least bit different from themselves and are very hateful and bigoted people. Read the other reviews carefully, considering all the people who have experienced similar things as me, one can tell these people are really isolated and out of touch.

eek! creepy mccreepballs. you can prob make anything they have here at home in your own kitchen for 1/3 of the price, and not subject yourself to the same song on repeat for 40 mins. also, they warm up - not toast - sandwiches...ewww. had to pack up 1/2 and give it to a homeless dude just to get outta there fast. creepy mccreepballs.

I like the vegetable juice and the mate at yellow deli. However, I wish the room wasn't as long and narrow. It makes me feel cramped. I liked the food and smoothies at the Mate Factor in Ithaca, NY better (run by same group). I wish they served more of the same food.
