    We wanted to take the college freshman to a nice dinner before the college career starts and The Greenbriar Inn was a nice place to celebrate and we had never been there before and wanted to try it out. Everything we had was awesome. Starting with the duck crepes for the appetizer. I had the salmon with butternut squash hash and it was perfectly cooked. D had the seafood special was a bouillabaisse with loads of fresh seafood all done wonderfully. J had the duck breast but it was gone from his plate before we could ask for a taste. He had worked very hard earlier in the day and needed the calories. We ordered the bananas foster for dessert mainly to have the show for the kiddo. This was the best bananas foster I have ever had !! As far as dress code - we dressed up but I think you can go biz casual and be fine.

    My fiance and I went to brunch there the Sunday after Thanksgiving and we could not have been happier. Food was great, service terrific, pretty surroundings. We loved it so much we decided to have our fall outdoor wedding there.

    The Greenbrier is just a cafeteria...nothing special. They get the food from a Sysco truck out the back door, defrost it, heat it and then serve it to you. Just think of them as a big microwave oven. Best of all, twenty dollars for a carafe of orange juice when you have a special event there... Don't waste your time... A pretty place with prefab food... The only thing they actually make there, in house, is money.

    this place could be so good if they updated the decor!! it's just too outdated for my style. the food is just okay. when you're paying flagstaff house prices, you want flagstaff house service and food!! it's a cool location north of boulder, but it's just not on top of it anymore. i hear the brunch is good, but haven't tried it

    Easily the worst fine dining meal I have had in a decade. The service was terrible, including forgetting to pour wine for the guest of honor, kicking over the wine stand and ice all over the feet of half of our party of 9, taking 30 mins to take an initial drink order (so we went to the bar for our 1st drinks), not providing the amuse buche or palate cleanser throughout the meal, going to the kitchen 5x to make the Caesar salad, delivering half the tables food and then 10+mins later the other half, but besides the ineptitude of the wait staff the food had soooo much salt in it that several of us couldn't eat half our meal. We used to love this place, but it is definitely a shell of its former self.

    I first met Kevin and Bo at a fine wine tasting event at a Coors field suite during a game. (we won, by the way) the two extended me an invitation to the restaurant they call home, located just west of Boulder on Route 36 and Canyon Rd. as I was heading eastward from the mountains, I passed their beautiful garden and screeched my brakes in order to pull into the parking lot. every step was a pleasure. on my way into the establishment, I walked past a garden which hosted the kitchen's herbs and basic veggies. there is a fantastic patio that wraps around the building and its well landscaped surroundings. obviously a chef influences the restaurant's intention... the bar's low ceilings only begin to express the age and antiquity; a walk into the main area allows a view into the marvelous open seating in the enclosed patio and dining room, sun shining and everything! the menu boasts a traditional British style; Beef Wellington, Frog's Legs, Escargot, etc, and also explores the modern Americana ideals that entice our palates. I did not explore the food; Jameson shots were followed by wine, and that's where we stopped. the winelist was mouthwatering; the cellar was impressive. the property was beautiful. the next time I will plan a more lengthy stop.

    I agree with the other posters who say that the brunch is very poor- the food and the service. We paid a ton of money to eat here and we're happy to pay the price for yummy food. This wasn't yummy. Not even close. The only thing close to yummy was the coffee (which we waited a long time for and then had to ask for refills!) and creme brulee. But the coffee and creme brulee weren't worth the close to $40 we paid per person for brunch. The food was cold. Yeah, I guess I shouldn't be surprised, it is a buffet, but I was hoping that this place was different than Old Country Buffet. I have had the (unfortunate) opportunity to go to Old Country Buffet about 10 years ago for their breakfast and I kid you not, it was better than Greenbriar. I feel really bad saying that but at least the food was hot and edible. 75% of the food at Greenbriar wasn't edible. I'm not kidding. We couldn't cut through the eggs benedict. It must have sat there for awhile or something. I couldn't bite or cut through the english muffin. The prime rib was cold. COLD! The other breakfast basics were just that - basic. Nothing special at all. The french toast was bleh. Bacon overly greasy- which I know is funny to say as bacon is fat but since every other offering was dry as hell, you'd think maybe the bacon wouldn't be dripping with fat. The chicken was so dry you could barely chew it. It wasn't busy and that should have clued me in. I wanted to like this place and wanted to have a nice place for my family to go to for special occasions. We drove quite a distance and we were all very disappointed. There wasn't one thing enjoyable about our brunch. In fact signing the bill was difficult for me. I felt ripped off. Over $100 for cold, dry, inedible food, asking for coffee and water refills...HUGE disappointment.

    A great place for a small, intimate wedding! After spending at least 6 hours at this lovely little inn for my cousin's wedding, I would love to come back as a paying customer:) With great views of the foothills and yummy food, I would definitely recommend it for some sort of gathering...whether it be a wedding, graduation party, reunion, Sunday brunch or just happy hour with good friends. Right off the road, which can be kind of annoying when you're trying to hear wedding vows spoken, this place has the feeling of a hunting lodge but you don't have to hunt for it at all. Try it out!

    I think it's a beautiful restaurant in a beautiful location with good food, but somehow it's just never on my list of places to eat. There is something generic about it, so I tend to forget about its existence for years at a time. We were there recently and I had an outstanding grilled tofu dish. But will I be going back any time soon? Probably not. I don't even know why. The place just doesn't inspire my loyalty. I should give it more stars, because it's probably much better than how I feel about it.

    The greenbriar is fantastic every-time we go! Brought another couple for restaurant week this time and we all were impressed as always. The service is fantastic, wine list very extensive and the reasonable priced wines are great! The presentation of the food is fantastic and everything tasted great. Always a great place to go!

    I had always wanted to try the Greenbriar, but never had the opportunity until tonight. Some friends and I decided to give it a go during Boulder's First Bite. The dining room is very traditional (the kind of place you'd see you grandparents eating) and cozy with a fireplace going and a moose head on the wall. It took about 10 minuets for us to be greeted and have our waters filled, but the duck pate that was sent out compliments of the chef made up for it. It was delicious! (Our waitress seemed to be a bit overwhelmed) For an appetizer I had the puff pastry wrapped escargot, served with roasted garlic, a tasty basil pesto and fontina fondue. As an entree I went for the grilled port tenderloin with sweet potato pecan tart, maple creme fraiche and veggies. The pork was juicy and cooked to perfection. The tart was sweet and accompanied the pork. I was lucky enough to get a little taste of the crab and thyme mashed potatoes that went with the trout. The dessert was a disappointment... as a chocolate fan, I chose the chocolate-peanut butter napoleon. It was dry and very minty tasting. All in all we had a very nice dinner, good bottle of wine and other than the dessert the food was delicious. And although we were the youngest people in the restaurant by about 30 years, I would recommend the Greenbriar and look forward to my next visit!

    Some friends and I wanted to go to First Bites in Boulder and we blindly chose The Greenbriar Inn because of the yummy menu choices. We were hoping for a good dining experience, but were surprised by an amazing dining experience. The place is classy. The staff is super polite and fun! Dinner was wonderful...interesting options. It's pricey, but worth it for a nice night out. Oh, and the place has some resident friendly ghosts. Be sure to ask Phil or Cliff (I hope I'm remembering those names correctly!) for a quick tour after you eat. All in all, we had a wonderful time with a yummy dinner. We are anxious to go back for the Sunday Champagne Brunch.

    At the end of April I retired and was given a $100 certificate for Greenbriars by my old group. Today was our (Jackie and myself) 34th wedding anniversary. So off to Greenbriars we went. Sadly there was a massive wedding party going on and this seemed to effect the service and quality of the cuisine. I can only say this was a massive disappointment. The food was really tardy in being delivered (as were the drinks) and when the food did arrive it was tepid. (2 courses ordered, arrived at 6:40PM and left at 8:55PM). I ordered the Beef Wellington. The pastry was undercooked, all the vegetables on the plate were near cold to tepid. For $40 this was outrageous. I complained to the waiter, I'll get the manager he said. 35 minutes later the manager arrived. The table next to us, after hearing me, said they had the same issue. Trout that was cold. By now Jackie had finished her meal (and from what she said that was not upto par) and there was no way I was going to have her wait another hour. I don't think anyone there was even too worried. I had the distinct impression that they were making so much money from the wedding party, that they considered the "Saturday night punters" a bit of a nuisance. Great shame, I know have a $50 certificate, Yes, one of the worst dining experiences ever and was charged $50 for the pleasure. I'm not even sure that I actually want to go back again. -------------------------------------- Since writing this I have heard from two friends who basically had exactly the same experience. Jen wrote : I totally understand. I have had a similar experience the last 3 times I went for happy hour. Exact same experience. Large party/wedding left us with horrible service and food was ok. I also asked for the manager and he came about 30 minutes later. I almost walked out. It used to be a great place to go. I'm sorry for your experience. Amber wrote : I think they make the bulk of their money on wedding parties, and don't care much for regular diners. SO TIP: When you book your table ask if there is a wedding party that night and if there is, find an evening when there isn't. You might get better service and hot food. ----------------------------------------- My friend John (UK based) wrote : Nig, I think over here I would have refused to pay ! If you have to call the manager there is normally a financial compromise offered. I though about what John said, this was our 34th wedding anniversary and they basically offered us nothing except to ask us to pay for a couple of overpriced drinks and starters.     The BEST Beef Wellington I have ever had was in this small, quaint restaurant. It was amazing and the ambiance outside was spectacular. I 100% recommend visiting this restaurant for dinner and doing so in their outdoor seating area. A wonderful date spot.

    We were seated once we walked in at our reservation, which is really nice. The food was interesting, creative, and delicious. The staff did an amazing job explaining to us what we were eating and where in their garden they get their ingredients from. The exterior of the restaurant is pretty. It reminded me a lot of a miniature scenic version of scenes from the newest cinderella movie. It is very picturesque. They were also nice giving my boyfriend and I a quieter place for our first fancy dinner!

    I went into The Greenbriar Inn for Denver Restaurant Week knowing it had a good reputation, but not realizing just how amazing the food was going to be. To start with, the grounds and building are breathtaking. At night the outside is lit up with white lights that gives it a whimsical feeling. The inside of the restaurant was a little interesting to me. To say it was dated is an understatement. Don't get me wrong, it is beautiful inside, but the dark wood, hunter green carpet, and floral printed chairs gives the impression that you have just stepped into a 1970s smokers lounge. Attire: I also must mention that my husband and I were the youngest people in the restaurant by at least 10 years (we are 28/29). The attire is marked as "casual" on yelp, but to be honest, about 1/3 of the men had on dinner jackets and the women had on skirts. Then again, this was the old crowd. I felt a little under dressed in dark jeans and heels. Food: Now on to the good stuff, FOOD! It was outstanding. I had the classic caesar salad. It was lightly dressed, but full of flavor. My husband has the film duck. He ate it so quickly that I didn't even get a bite. For dinner, the braised short rib had a strong flavor but was the most tender meat I have ever eaten. I was not a huge fan of the fried palenta. It did not have much flavor, and with the seasonings of the short rib, the side really needed to pop a little. My husband ordered the "soda pop" pork. It was marinated in root beer, which gave it a sweet and warm seasoning atop mashed potatoes. This too he almost inhaled before I could get a bite. It was tender and sweet and full of flavor. Lastly, for dessert. The creme brûlée was classic with reduced pear slices and honey comb onto. The husband had a pear tart w/ creme fraiche ice cream. It had the homey spices of nutmeg and cinnamon. At the end of dessert, we both wanted to lick our plates. Wine: As for the wine, the list is extremely impressive. I settled for a $11 glass of Conn Creek Sauvignon Blanc. They had about 1 page of wine by the glass, with a large novel of wine by the bottle, with the least expensive starting at around $30. If you can afford it for a special occasion, I highly recommend it. This is one of the best deals for Denver Restaurant Week, and it is going to be a tradition for us for this time year.

    I have driven past the Greenbriar for two years now on my way to either the mountains or to catch some dirt at Hall Ranch. Always thinking or commenting outloud-"I really should try that place sometime." Well, maybe I should have waited a bit longer. I look forward to Boulder First Bite all year-Boulder's version of Restaurant week, where all the amatures venture to more expensive places and more experienced diners try to move out of their comfort zone for a prix fixe meal at a participating restaurant. The Greenbriar Inn is cozy. It is in the country. It has candles, mini table lamps, low hung dark wood and a fireplace. The appearance is appealing but the atmosphere is lacking. A bit stuffy-but in an outdated sort of a way. But ah, the point of actually being there? Food and service. Service was slow and the server was a bit over worked with too many tables. My biggest pet peeve of the service? How long we sat before the waters were filled. I started my meal with the Carmel Apple Gnocchi. Just the right amount of sweetness and enough sauce to mop the plate with the fresh bread served to the table. My main course was outstanding. A Pistachio Crusted Steelhead Trout with Crab Mashed Potatoes, Wilted Greens and a lemon butter sauce. I would have licked the plate clean if it had been appropriate. Every part of the dish was excellent and I was satisfied portion wise. After cleaning my plate and throughly enjoying my entree it would be hard to go wrong one would think-it's dessert after all. Oh how far and fast the meal went downhill. My dessert-the Chocolate Peanut Butter Napoleon was inedible. And that, is a rarity for me. My dessert was sampled by the table and left virtually untouched. When I order Chocolate Peanut Butter Napoleon I expect a tower of layers of rich chocolate cake with fluffy peanut butter mousse in between. I was served a dry, minty, freezer burned square. The only saving grace was the mini chocolate chip cookie (?Missing the theme with the rest of the dessert). I will probably not eat at Greenbriar again, and will most certainly not recommend for dessert. But for an evening with the girls, the food was good, the company was great. Three stars it is-food based only. Don't worry ladies-If Yelp had a 10 star rating you would have it.

    If you are looking for excellent food and a great country setting with a great staff i would suggest going to the greenbriar from the moment i walked in to the moment i left i was treated with respect and with friendly smart service all my questions on wine were answer perfectly, and as for the food i have never eaten a better beef wellington, the main thing that won me over was the waiting staff they leave you feeling that they know what there talking about however you dont feel like there snobs like other high class resturants do, they were nice down to earth smart people who treat you like they have know you for years if your looking to eat out i would tell you the greenbriar is my number one choice better than salt (blah) or frasca which i would say is the most overrated wine and dine service in boulder

    Came here for their champagne brunch. The food was decent, and I suppose "decent" is to be expected for a buffet brunch. The thing that got me, was that a champagne brunch includes "UNLIMITED champagne". Lies. Absolute lies. One more glass than they expect you to have, and they've magically run out of sparking wine. I paid my $50, I'd like what you promised me.

    The Greenbriar is a beautiful older restaurant with a good brunch buffet. It's the kind of place my grandmother really enjoys. I think the brunch is reasonably priced and the food is really very good. I haven't done dinner there in over a decade so the four stars is for brunch only. It seemed like the place was staffed entirely by high school aged kids who were trying, but a bit oblivious. For a high-end brunch, I was disappointed at how often my water glass sat empty and how many times I had to ask for more water and more hot water for my tea.

    Horrible experience. Used to be a great place for 20+ years but something has changed recently. We celebrated a 60th birthday there and it was painful. Wait staff was non existent. We had to wait 30 minutes for drinks. Had to ask to order. Had to ask for bread. Had to ask for our main course. Took over 2.5 hours. We should have walked out. Worst service I've had in a long long time. Get your act together Greenbriar. We will not return.

    Amazing food, but needs improvement on service. Very slow to get our meals last night. Last time we were there they had a thermostat issue and was so hot we almost walked out. Why can't a great restaurant like this fix the simple stuff. Time for a new manager.

    Phenomenally quiet location. We love coming here when the weather is nice, as their patio is gorgeous. Definitely not a cheap place, but they do everything well. My wife and I will bop down here once and awhile and split something on their bar menu with a few cocktails. We have had a few successful family dinners, and always try to make it down for their pre-fix for restaurant week.

    Wanted to enjoy a special meal at the green briar for valentines day. We were sadly disappointed. Everyone ordered the beef Wellington . Two of us ordered it to be cooked med-well. Came out oozing blood. Sent it back and was returned in the same state . Can't eat bloody meat. Service was terribly slow. We witnessed one couple walk out apparently because of slow service. Sorry to say we will have to take the green briar off our list of fine dining resturants.

    Sunday brunch is all I have to say. I haven't been there otherwise. Sunday brunch is $28 w/o champagne, $34 with. Brunch is fantastic....to name a few of my favorite things there are oysters on the 1/2 shell, an omelet bar, lox and bagels, quiches, bacon, waffles with real blueberry syrup, cheeses, nuts, fruit, endless coffee/juice. There is also a hole table full of desserts with chocolate dipped strawberries, mini creme brule, bread pudding etc etc etc.......Go hungry and get your monies worth, the place is nice inside and service was awesome! Make reservations as this place fills up especially for brunch!

    Our mostly-vegetarian family of four, including two children one of whom has Exceptional Needs / is profoundly disabled, recently had a lovely Easter brunch here. Right off the bat I have to say how over-the-top delighted I was with how accommodating the staff were pre-visit: when I called to make the reservation, when they called to confirm our attendance, and then the day of. Because of our youngest child's Needs I have to be uptight so he (and therefore, we) can have a positive, enjoyable experience. Some places get a bit uppity, but truly, I was just thrilled with how thoughtful their responses and ideas were so as to make it a successful brunch for our whole family. Well, this is clearly a well-oiled operation because there were quite a stream of us arriving a la meme fois and the cheery, attentive ladies at the front desk had us all squared away in good order. The buffet was well-stocked with all kinds of tidbits including quite a few vegetarian options, all of which were clearly marked. The food was okay, about what I'd expect for a very busy day. If I'd ordered it off a menu I probably would have been disappointed, but I have a different expectation of both a buffet and of a buffet on a very busy day. The food was all at the right temp, it was plentiful (we never opened a container to find it low or empty), and there good choices -- not a ton of choices (which I LOVE but which mightn't be feasible in such a small restau). Given that it was April 20, I was THRILLED with the delicious watermelon (my second favorite fruit), and the pot de cremes were terrific. My eldest child raved about the creme brulee, and my husband and youngest were very keen on the bacon and gravlax (or smoked salmon -- I didn't get close enough to thoroughly investigate). This was our first time at the Greenbriar Inn so I can only say that given my expectations on a busy Easter Sunday for brunch I was pleased with the food. If it were any old Sunday I would, admittedly, expect better and more. However, the Greenbriar Inn will now always rank VERY HIGHLY with me because of how kind, thoughtful, and accommodating they were in making a little developmentally disabled child (and his family) have a good time, and that there were dedicated vegetarian offerings.

    We LOVE the bar in back. Cozy - Phil runs a tight ship, great care of the diner. His number 1, Cliff - always welcoming. D'Arcee and Lacey in the lounge are amazing! Best bar food anywhere. Oh - and the wine selection will kill you.

    I'm torn between a three or four but since I paid almost $90 for two ends we both left hungry, I'm going to give it a three. Food was ok for restaurant week but portions were just decent and the dessert left me unhappy. While the place is very pretty, it's for an older crowd I think, and you should dress up nicer than jeans (think nice shirt, tie, pants for guys and a dress for ladies).

    I went to Greenbriar Inn with my restaurant club last week and we were collectively underwhelmed. We went with the intention of sitting outside and ordering from the 'Bar and Patio' menu, which was considerably less expensive than the regular dinner menu. The outside setting was simply perfect. It was quiet and peaceful, with a beautiful surrounding landscape. Our server was quite attentive at the beginning, albeit seemed a bit peeved that we were not ordering from the regular dinner menu, but more on the service later. As far as the food went, we ordered the following menu items to share: Lamb sliders - in my opinion the best item of the evening, good flavors and seasoned well, Seared Creole Tuna Burger - the worst item, sinewy and generally lacked flavor, Left hand fries - good but under seasoned (we actually had to request salt for the table as there wasn't any there initially), Popcorn crusted diver scallops - good flavors, scallops were cooked well, Artisan cheeses and charcuterie - good although the presentation could have been better, the prosciutto was balled up and it was difficult to separate it, rather unappetizing looking but tasted good. The service was good up until the food arrived, and then we were essentially ignored. Our waiter did not even ask us if we wanted to order dessert, which we all planned on doing. We wound up going to another restaurant in Boulder for dessert. Very disappointing! Perhaps it was an off night but that type of service is not acceptable. So to sum it all up, ambiance was terrific, food was good at best, and service was bad. I would like to give this restaurant another try to see if my opinion improves, perhaps Sunday Brunch?

    I don't understand how the other reviews could be any less than 5 stars. We happened upon this place by accident and were convinced to stay for the harvest dinner that is only done a few times a year. We were so happy we did. For $50.00 you are served a 4 course dinner with a drink included. Everything was fresh from the garden and were things you would not find on any other menu. I always appreciate when someone has the artistry to blend flavors that go nicely rather than just cook something. I am very particular when it comes to food and service and both were excellent. We also felt very welcomed(even though we arrived before opening time) and were served excellent cocktails by a bartender who was very cordial. It seems like very hands on management by an owner who cares about what is served, who is serving it, and how customers are enjoying it. Not something you find too often these days. We liked it so much we went back a second time on our 5 day trip. Hands down, the best meal we had the whole time. Don't pass it by, which is easy to do.

    As Lauren R stated, this is the cutest place for a small outdoor wedding, as I recently went to watch my cousin tie the knot at this cute venue. Easy to spot right off the highway, the Greenbriar Inn is cozy, full of color and has a great happy hour. Brunch, which was the talk of the wedding, is offered daily is something i'll definitely be back for :) The patio is super cute, cozy and made me feel like we were sipping white wine in Italy rather than Colorado. Delicious appetizers, Ellie's Brown Ale on tap (yummm!!) super friendly staff all equals a great evening!!

    Two very dear friends got married here over the summer and I can understand why they chose the location. Beautiful afternoon views, delicious food, and wonderful staff. The wedding was held on the patio just outside the main entrance. Things were a little haphazard with the white plastic patio chairs, but there was plenty of seating for everyone. What nearly ruined the mood was the fact that we could hear every single car and motorcycle that drove by which was a huge distraction. The officiant didn't have a microphone (suggestion box item), so the noise from the road made it very difficult to hear what was being said. Aside from those things, the cocktail hour and reception were incredible. We spent time on the 'wedding lawn' before moving upstairs to the dining space. We had a delicious buffet dinner with tons of choices. The space was just the right size to accommodate the 50-guests plus a live band. We had a fantastic time dancing the night away and the balcony provided a place to take in the scenery between songs. The Greenbriar was a lovely place for our friends' special day.

    Went for Father's Day and had a poor brunch experience from start to finish. We were seated and it was fifteen minutes before anyone came by to ask for drink orders. The food was bland and tasted of being mass produced. The prime rib was overcooked, why would someone do that to a beautiful cut of meat? The lamb was the only standout. They were constantly running out of everything and very slow to refill items. Throughout our meal our table was severely neglected. I needed to get up and go to the waiter station (and still waiting 5 mins) to ask for refills on water and tea/coffee. We waited a good fifteen minutes of craning our neck for a waiter to get our check. Another ten minutes before they came back with my credit card charged. Also, the bathrooms were disgusting. The place needs a serious remodeling or a complete revamp (on decor, service and food)

    I think I'm too young to be eating at this place... In theory everything about our dining experience was just fine, but it was so uninspiring and left me feeling very "Meh. I've experienced better" (as yelp would put it). One of the problems I think is that I ate here with my dad and brother on a random summer Friday. Greenbriar is the kinda place you go to for an anniversary, or your grandmothers birthday. Not the kind of place you go to with the guys on a Friday night. But my dad wanted to drive to Boulder and thought of this place so we went. I'm pretty sure our waiter was giving us the "WTF are you doing here" look behind the scenes. I didn't really blame him. Side note about the waiter: he was extremely helpful and attentive, and very knowledgeable about food. Impressive considering I think he was one of the only people in the restaurant younger than me. The food was not bad, I had Beef Wellington. It was well prepared and cooked to the temperature I like, something that I've found is difficult because of the way the dish is prepared. It was just nothing special. If it weren't for the extremely high prices, I wouldn't mind going back occasionally for family functions. But if I'm gonna spend that much money, I can think of a myriad of more exciting and equally delicious options in Boulder.

    Greenbriar is where my husband had our first date and our wedding night. I love the ambiance and the professional staff. In between appetizers you are served a "pallette cleaner" sorbet which is amazing. The food melts in your mouth with each bite. My husband and I will continue to dine at the greenbriar every anniversary.

    I have heard about this place for years and finally went. I was disappointed. Free duck pate before dinner was marginal. Heirloom Tomato Salad sounded really different and interesting, it was very bland. Tomatoes were watery and just not enough flavor/seasoning on the salad. Ahi Tuna app was decent, but again, not quite enough seasoning. My companions had the arugula tart and the ribeye. Both got decent reviews. I didn't taste the ribeye but thought the tart was pretty good. I ordered the wild mushroom risotto and I have several complaints, in fact I should've sent it back, I just wasn't in the mood that night. 1. Roasted baby beets around the edge of the plate had no flavor and were UNPEELED!! So not hard to peel a beet especially after it is cooked! 2. Portion was HUGE, way too much rice, etc for one person 3. Ordered balsamic tofu on top as an extra. 3 small slices of tofu, they were completely burnt on one side...I mean one whole side, black!! ( I definitely should have sent those back at least!!) Now, the chef also put the burnt side down on purpose so you couldn't see it which is just wrong. A chef who had some pride would NEVER send out that dish. The risotto itself was ok, though needed salt and the mushrooms in it were completely unseasoned, blah! Raspberry ginger sorbet for dessert was awesome and chocolate souffle cake pretty good too. Rhubarb turnovers...blah, not enough filling too much pastry. Had a rhubarb turnover dessert at Frasca recently and it was WAY better, in fact one of the most delicious desserts I'e had in ages! Atmosphere at this place a little stuffy and country for my taste, service decent but not polished. If you want a nice dinner in Boulder, head to Frasca, The Kitchen or Salt or about a dozen other places first!

    Greenbriar Inn is delicious. I have been there several times, but a couple of the times really stick out. They do beautiful things there with cheese in dishes, let me tell you. At Boulder Restaurant Week, I got Buffalo shortribs with creamy cheesy Polenta (it may have been gorgonzola? Cant remember...). It was out of the this world delicious. The other food was great too but this was tops... Creme brulee for dessert is always wonderful. At another fixed dinner event, had truffle cheese ravioli. I can't describe how wonderful this was. Each bite was like heaven in my mouth. Had the chevre cheesecake for dessert and it was also incredible. I guess if you didnt like goat cheese, you might not like it, but I am happily not afflicted with that disorder. We've always had good luck with the waitstaff and have had a couple of the people twice. Greenbriar is good for people watching as well! The other patrons are always entertaining. I admit I was a little disappointed with the brunch but thats nothing a little bottomless champagne can't clear up.

    My friends love this place and finally talked me into driving all the way from Denver to meet them there for a Sunday brunch. What a disappointment this was! For the price, I was expecting mountains of great variety of foods. Instead, this is a rather small buffet, and at 12:30 PM most foods, such as the salmon, quiche and eggs benedict were lukewarm. The meats were stingily carved and were unremarkable. The desserts were boring (the crème brulée was ok). Most notably missing was bread. I was expecting an assortment of fresh-baked country breads, but there was none of that, just some croissants. My friends drink a lot of the unlimited champaign and I concluded that that's why they fail to recognize that the food is mediocre. I was unimpressed and will not return. Oh - one good thing: the coffee was absolutely delicious, I even bought a pound of ground to take home.

    I've been here twice now. Once a couple years ago for First Bite and then again this past weekend for 5280. I'm left with the same feeling from both visits. The service and food have always been excellent. Definitely worth the special price. Not really worth the menu price though. My biggest problem is the atmosphere. It just feels uptight and stuffy. If we go again, I would request a table in what appears to be a sun room (lots of windows in there). This could just be my issue but I generally prefer a more contemporary/modern feel. For an "upscale restaurant" I expect a few extra details which you generally (but not always) find in the bathroom. Things that you may have forgotten to put in your purse before you left the house. Am I right, ladies? I would suggest this place to friends but certainly not strongly. There are definitely better restaurants in the area.

    I ate here recently during RW with a friend, and overall, I left without a compelling reason to return. SERVICE No complaints, it was decent. ATMOSPHERE A little too... old school for my tastes. Though I appreciated that the noise level was low. FOOD Bread - Warm, crusty delicious poppy & sesame seed rolls with a side of smooth spreadable butter dusted with sea salt. Sea Scallop - Wow, salty, and I am a lover of salt. One of the two scallops were overcooked. The hazelnuts on the parsnip puree felt out of place. The puree itself was smooth and light but not super flavorful. The grapefruit also seemed out of place with the rest of it. Rabbit Paté - Tasty and interesting, though the mustard served with it was super strong and overpowering. The croutons were too small. Oxtail Lasagna - On the verge of being too salty, but probably my favorite of the night. Homemade pasta! Duck Breast - Nothing super special and the risotto was stiff and not very flavorful. They threw on some gristly flavorful bits next to the slices, but they were too tough and dry to eat. Mushroom Ravioli - Homemade pasta and tasty sauce! Thought the center was a little too cheesy, however. Maple Crème Brûlée with Candied Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookie - We had high hopes for this one, but alas, it disappointed. It was a huge portion of creme brulee, but the flavor was just a little too timid. The cookie looked and had the texture of a chips ahoy cookie, and the bacon flavor didn't shine through. Haystack Mountain Chèvre Cheesecake - My comment to my friend was "it's very goat-y." Dense and dry, we couldn't finish it and it was just a little sliver! The figs were overwhelming. The pistachio brittle was tiny but tasty/

    My husband and I decided to try out the Greenbriar Inn for First Bite Boulder. The deal was that you got a three course prix fixe menu for $26. Before our first course they brought us out a special foie gras amuse bouche which was incredible. I don't think they have it on the regular menu, but if it is ever a special I would definitely recommend it. For our appetizers we had the lemon parmesan fried escargot and the salmon crudo spring roll. Both were tasty, but neither were particularly memorable. For our entrees my husband ordered the petite filet and rock shrimp scampi and I had the duck en croûte. The filet was definitely petite and the rock shrimp scampi was good, but the duck en croûte stole the show. Unfortunately it is not on the regular menu, but I would imagine that the beef wellington would also have to be amazing. The Greenbriar Inn is a very romantic restaurant, so if you're looking for a nice night out to cozy up to your loved one, I'd recommend the Greenbriar Inn. In all I'd give the Greenbriar Inn three and a half to four stars, but five stars to the duck en croûte.

    The brunch here is spectacular! They have traditional breakfast items like french toast, eggs benedict and bacon. In addition they have, raw seafood, sushi, prime rib, leg of lamb, an omelet station, salad and dessert table. It might not be the most in variety, but come on.....how much can you really eat?! If you want you can add on champagne for $6/pp. The setting is beautiful anytime of the year. The crowd is a little older, which is a nice change. If you want to dress up and enjoy your Sunday.....I would highly recommend the Greenbriar!

    I've been up here for weddings (beautiful), holiday parties (cozy & fun), and countless brunches and dinners (delicious). The Venue: There is a beautiful garden for small-medium weddings or receptions. Should it rain, you'll get married inside under a moose head, so pray it doesn't rain if you pick it as your wedding spot. The inside has a German influence and is dark and intimate with a low, heavy wooden beamed ceiling and glowing chandeliers. The upstairs is more airy and light. The Food: Really good! The Greenbriar is highly reviewed by Zagat, Wine Spectator, and CitySearch, as if you need anything more than my word of honor! I think the chefs really enjoy making appetizers because they have a huge and varied selection. Entrees focus on meat, game and seafood, though I have ordered some spectacular vegetarian meals. Here's a sampling of what's currently on the menu (it changes seasonally): Baked Stuffed Globe Artichoke Almond Crusted Soft Shell Crab Bacon Wrapped Rabbit Roulade Molasses Brown Sugar Glazed Pork Chop Steak Diane and Seared Sea Scallops Morel Stuffed Semolina Raviolis Warm Blueberry - Bartlett Pear Crumble Tahitian Vanilla Coconut Creme Brulee (with caramelized bananas, mango tuile, and fresh berries... I'm drooling, how about you?) I took away a star because I felt like it. Sometimes the downstairs just feels too dark. The floor plan can be awkward for weddings, with some guests separated from the goings-on. And once in awhile you'll get a snooty waiter that decides you aren't good enough to eat there. But over all the Greenbriar is a solidly good experience.

    I'm really pretty amazed that the Greenbriar Inn doesn't have more reviews. We are big fans of Sunday brunch here at Xmas time and Father's Day...it's just too crowded for Mother's Day. We went again this Father's Day, and it was as good as ever, with two minor exceptions. I loved the prime rib (and husband and kids said the ham and lamb that were also available were tasty as well), Eggs Benedict, sushi, various salads, and a kaleidoscope of desserts plus the de rigueur champagne (sparkling cider for the kids). Not being a oysters-on-the-half-shell fan myself, I missed loading up on shrimp, and I crave lemon desserts, and couldn't find one in the sea of chocolate and creme brulee. The setting is always pretty--lovely decorations over the holidays and a profusion of flowers in the summer--and the wait staff superb. I'm not sure what it would take to push it into the 5-star category--maybe an awesome view.

    I think the food is excellent here. I have been for late lunch and we also had our wedding here. I felt the food was well prepared and the flavor was good. That said, I would not say the food is so damn good I can't get it out of my mind. It was good but I have had better for sure. The service is very good here. The waiter we had was sort of a goof, like Jeff Spicoli!!! Whoa dude, want some wine? yeah!!! But I enjoyed most everything we ate. It was definitely HIGH priced. I really think they can come down a bit in the cost. The food is worth a higher price but not at the current rates. We had our wedding here too. The buffet was excellent. The service was great and we had the bottom floor and atrium. It was a great place to have it. I don't regret it at all. I would say regardless you should at least try it. Some may have bad experiences and others not, see for yourself. I say for the most part it should be a good one with good food and a great wine selection as well as beer.
