Diabetics at Pizza Hut

Pizza is neither a great meal nor the worst for diabetes. All you need is some fact check and monitoring while ordering your pizza. Diabetics can opt for thin crust or skinny pizza at Pizza Hut and avoid the cheese topping to cut down on the excess fat and sodium. If you have diabetes, then ensure to check your portion size when you order a pizza. One or max. two slices are enough. You can also avoid meat if possible and go for wings as a meat option.

Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for Diabetics:

You must avoid Meat Lovers Pizza with Original Pan Crust as it contains over 1000mg sodium and will add 470 calories in your meal. You should also skip Super Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice which is too high in sodium and fat. Chicken wings are often tempting but you must control and restrict yourself from ordering Traditional Honey BBQ Bone-in Wings as it can add up to your sugar levels if you eat too many. On average, a person orders or consumes six chicken wings pieces in a day.

Sides must be avoided at all costs especially if it's Bacon Cheddar Fries with Ranch Dipping Cup for its high sodium content. You must also avoid New York Style Cheesecake with Applesauce as dessert as one slice of this dessert item contains 86g sugar. Pizza Hut also offers other Italian dishes such as Pasta. However, you must skip Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and Meatballs and Garlic Bread as it is too high in sodium and sugar.

We are from out of town staying at the Marriott while visiting. Stumbled onto this pizzeria by accident & it was the best accident ever! I have not had pizza this good in my life. They use the best authentic Italian ingredients and brick oven folks! I almost ate an entire medium pizza by myself just savoring every bite of it. I have no shame admitting that. The Calamari also is the best we ever had. It is not fried & it has no breading either. They used fresh garlic and imported Calabria peppers which are very tasty and give calamari a kick. It was exceptional food and service. I was intrigued by the peppers and I asked and the gal told me what they were. When we got home I ordered some of those peppers online in the hope to recreate their calamari recipe. Truly a Pizzeria da Lupo fan!

We stopped here because of good reviews. It was not busy and we had our choice of seats. Unfortunately, the service was very poor and we couldn't even get the waitress in our section to speak to us (we're pretty friendly!). She rushed to take orders from two tables sat after us, and never even gave us menus. A waiter from another section realized she was ignoring us and helped us out, but still seemed to be giving her a chance to take over. We asked him if he could help us and we took our pizzas to go. It's disappointing because we were on vacation and were planning to celebrate with drinks. Now those drinks will be at home. Giving it two stars because the guy that finally helped us was very nice. **Update: the pizza was good. I've made it 3 stars. I'm taking it that the problem at this place is either one terrible waitress, poor explanation of sections and responsibilities by management, or both. Good food and at least one good waiter. It just was very frustrating to have her walk past us repeatedly without even looking at us while she helped new arrivals around us. Roll the dice.

The wings will change your life. Cooked in the Brick oven in a black skillet to perfection. Service is always prompt and the food even better. Must try the Brussels Sprout salad with a light lemon vinaigrette and walnuts! Perfect and light!

This is one of my favorite places in Boulder. We've been here numerous times and are never let down. The staff are super friendly and speedy. We always get the Bianco pizza with two eggs and roasted red peppers. It will seriously change your life. The restaurant can get a little noisy when busy but if you get a booth in the back it's much quieter. I definitely recommend checking this place out!

  • Dean T.

I use to love this place, but my last two visits were disappointing. As for food, one of my pizzas was under sauced and burnt, whereas the other was over sauced and undercooked. In previous visits, the food was always great. As for service, upon arrival I was greeted and sat in a booth, then completely neglected. There were perhaps one or two other tables, far from busy. The server took forever to take our drink orders, then even longer to bring us our drinks. Overall, it was just an awkward experience. Locale is a much better option if you are looking for high end, authentic Italian pizza.

Real pizza! Wood fired oven, traditional dough and tomatoes on sauce - not "spaghetti sauce" like other guys! If you know what a pizza should taste that's the place to go in Boulder!

  • RENA W.

Great place. Fun pizza cooked right there in the wood fire oven. Brussel Sprout salad is delicious. Great wait service. Had some good information for us regarding the menu. Will definitely go again.

Fantastic pizza. We got one with fresh mozzarella and prosciutto. The crust was absolutely delicious - not JUST a vehicle for the stuff on top. I'm not really all that much of a pizza fan, but Pizzeria da Lupo could turn me into one. Great service, absolutely delicious kale salad to start, decent and cheap red wine - I would definitely be back here again, probably too many times for my girlish figure. Which is buried under a layer of lovingly digested pizza, deposited on my ass. Thank you Pizzeria da Lupo ;D

Had the Piedmont pizza which wasn't great too dry so I'd try another pizza next time. The sausage and peppers sub was amazing though. The peppers were sweet and spicy. It was delicious.

A two week pizza craving led me to seek out the best of the best in Boulder. I tried several places during my 6 month residence in the area; some better than others. I had no luck until a friend brought me to Pizzeria Da Lupo where I was instantly dazzled by the casual yet style conscious atmosphere. They even had a TV that was not overly obnoxious in size but perfect for catching Monday night football during dinner. Our sever, Marc was very friendly and provided excellent customer service. All of the staff was very personable. Our pizza was very tasty and was ready in about 10 minuets and the Endive Salad was great starter for two people. I can't wait to come back and take advantage of the happy hour and/or lunch specials!

To be fair, I'd give them 3 1/2 stars, but can't give them 4. First, the atmosphere and service were excellent. We had a few pizzas, they were good, the crust is definitively a plus, but not great, and for some of them at $16 not worth the price. I loved the crust, but I would have enjoyed a little more topping on my pizza, especially if I am paying $16, it's kind of expensive for mostly eating crust. We also had the Brussels sprouts salad, it was good, nothing different from what you get in other places. They told me they had changed the calamari, and I hope they go back to what they used to do if it was good, because this dish was totally off. I am a big seafood fan, so that was a disappointment. The calamari was really under cooked (I asked to cook it more, even though I know it's tricky, you don't want it to become rubbery), but there was no taste to that dish, just a few peppers and one leaf of basil on top. I just could not eat it, something was missing, or everything was missing. So a very mixed review for us in the end, not a bad place at all, you can tell they use quality ingredients and want to be a quality pizzeria, they just need to make a few adjustments to become a great place, according to me.

If you are in Boulder you must stop and try the pizza here. It is the best pizza ever. Fresh ingredients made right in front of you. Has a little spice to it. Definitely take the time to arp here

Visiting from out of town and our group found this restaurant. We brought 20+ people in for a late lunch and the staff (Especially our server Wendi) was amazing! And the food? Even more amazing! Everything everyone had was just outstanding! Cheese plates were great, wings were outstanding, and all of the pizzas were the best! NEVER expected the food that came out of this place. Wish we had one at home!

Their pizza is just like Pizzeria Locale but it tastes better and is cheaper, too. Definitely coming back.

Top notch. As good or better than Pizzeria Locale with a more laid-back atmosphere. Reasonable prices and friendly folks make this a great Boulder dinner spot.

Da Lupo offers the best value for high quality pizza in Boulder. The classic Margherita is wonderful--sweet tomatoes, salty cheese, fresh basil and crisp crust. Two of them will set you back $16 and feed 3 people or 2 very hungry people. They shoot for a Neapolitan style but they don't have the wetness you would find in a true pie from Naples. (Which Italians eat with a fork and knife--sorry Jon Stewart!) Not withstanding this difference, this is very good pizza--especially for Boulder. We found the Marinara pie to have a too pronounced garlic bitterness. The white pie was ok as well. However, it's hard to beat the $8 Margherita pie for when you want quality pizza.

Tasty Piedmont Pizza and mini sticky buns for dessert! Also the staff was very friendly which is always a draw for me. Hurray!

Love this place! The Sicilian is my favorite pizza, the crust is to die for, slightly crispy yet delectably chewy, the sauce is amazing and always dig on the Endive and Argula salad. The staff is always warm and welcoming, and the house wines delish. Doesn't hurt that all of the ingredients are authentic from Italy and the oven comes straight from Italy too! I would highly recommend for a nice lunch or dinner.

This was our third time at Pizzeria da Lupo. We hit it every time we come to town for the Bolder Boulder. Anyway, my group of five runners dined here the night before the race to carb load. Not sure that's necessary for 6.2 miles but it provided a good excuse! The kids dominated their pizzas. Two pizzas, three kids, not a crumb left. My husband and I got the skillets. Gosh, they were delicious! Sausage, ricotta, rapini on mine. Eggplant parm for him. Some interesting wine specials which we enjoyed. I imagine we'll be back next year!

On a Sunday night we did not have to wait and were immediately seated. It wasn't very long of a wait for our food either. We first tried the calamari. I was expecting the calamari to be bathing in a creamy thicker garlic type of sauce, but it was pretty watery and the calamari did not carry much flavor. I don't recommend the calamari. The pizza however was pretty good. I enjoyed our ability to customize the pizza to our liking. The sauce is very light so you may want to ask for extra sauce. The pizza wasn't burnt but it was dryer than most woodfire pizzas we've had. We were able to split the pizza between two people and we were full.

  • Todd L.

Go here if you like bread. Because they don't really like to use much sauce or cheese. One of the pizzas we got was kind of ok, and the other (the white clam pizza) was the driest pizza I've ever had. No cheese other than some shaved parm, and no sauce. How can this be a "white clam" pizza with no white sauce? It was like a burned breadstick with clams on it. Yeah, yum. I did see others eating what looked like normal pizzas, so I'll add a star for that as well as some seriously awesome brussel sprouts.

    (3)
  • Stephanie D.

This absolutely my favorite pizza place in Boulder. The lunch special ($10 for an iced tea, salad, and pizza) can't be beat. It's probably even enough food to split with a friend, but we usually end up eating a whole pizza on our own anyway. The service is prompt and friendly, and the decor is delightful. I love coming in with a book and sitting at the bar so I can kick back and watch them make their wood fire pizzas. Sit out on the patio for a great view of the flatirons. Great place for a solo lunch, and even better with friends!

Grabbed pizza and salads from here to go and they were still delicious by the time we got them home. Went with the Margherita which was good but it is about as traditional as it gets. The crust is nice and soft but with a crunchy bite. They could spare a bit more on the sauce and cheese side, especially for the prices they're charging. The size of the pizzas are a bit on the small side as well. The salads were great - my favorite was the shaved brussel sprout salad. Thinly shaved brussel sprouts, reggiano and walnuts made me come back for seconds even after eating 3 slices of pizza. I could have (maybe I did) licked the container dry. Again, the salad portions are small, especially since each one is $9. All in all, if you want something a bit more upscale but without the fuss, Pizzeria da Lupo is a good choice!

second time in to lupo did not disappoint! our server, marc, is personable, attentive and all around awesome! this time we enjoyed the brussels sprout salad and the grilled caesar salad in addition to pizza. one sad thing, they were out of our favorite dessert.

Best pizza in boulder.. If u like actual European style pizza then this is the place for you! Don't come here looking for a 24" pizza with ketchup and crummy crust at $15.. The pizza is legit, I lived in Europe for a longggg time, this is about as close as you can get this side of the pond to legit pizza!

  • Olivia R.

We ordered a pizza over the phone and picked it up. The Emilia Romagno. I was expecting it to be pretty great since it had proscuitto on it, but I was disappointed. By the time we got home it was cold, and there really wasnt any cheese on it to re-heat it in anyway, no sauce either. I didnt get the flavor I was expecting from that pizza, and I didn't like the crust either it was way to hard and chewy

  • Marisa K.

Literally best Naples style pizza outside of Italy! The crust is magical and so are all the incredible ingredients they use. It is the most dreamy pizza pie you will ever have. My favorite toppings include the ricotta (best ever), oyster mushrooms, and arugula. But everything is good. The chef owner sources everything from the best places whether it be local or specific tomatoes, cheeses, and meats from specific regions in Italy. LOVE the Brussels sprout salad too!! The cecinas are really interesting as well, made from garbanzo bean flour so they are gluten free. The space is adorable! I lived in Italy for several months last year and the ambiance and decor is transporting. Great for a casual bite but can also be intimate and romantic. Da lupo is pretty much my favorite spot in boulder.

  • Monica C.

This place is great for lunch. They have a lunch special with a salad, iced tea and a margherita pizza for $10, which is a pretty good deal in Boulder. The salad is very fresh, but I feel like the pizza crust could be better. If you don't eat it quickly while it's hot, the crust tends to get REALLY chewy when it cools down. It would be a nightmare if you had dentures.

    (3)
  • E T.

I could go on and on about their pizza, but really, you need to buy the brussel sprout skillet. Food is excellent, service is prompt and friendly. Intimate atmosphere makes it a really cozy place to eat. Why are you waiting? Go there already!

The five dollar meatball "sub" at happy hour is nothing more than 2 dry meatballs on 3 inches of bread. Easily the worst I have ever had, do yourself a favor and skip this lousy excuse for an italian restaurant.

Marguerita is fantastic. The pizza crust is delicious. Good for children. Service is great.

  • Daniel H.

Had high hopes after the other reviews. Ordered pick up but couldn't believe how small the salad was as well as the pizza. It also was not hot even though we waited there to pick it up. Pizza was sub par and could have made a frozen pizza that is better

  • Ray L.

Wait service was fine. The issue I encountered was with the stinginess of sauce and low quality of cheese on the Margherita; it was like 20% mozarella, 80% grainy sharp parmesan, ruined any hope of enjoying that classic mellow Margherita taste, and reminded me of the generic stuff I used on my pizza toast in high school! Seriously, for any price, not worth it, and a real waste of decent quality pizza dough.

  • Amber M.

Hands down, an excellent, laid-back, local pizza joint. I had Adams Pizza which was delicious. The dough/crust is the BEST I've ever had and I love pizza! I didn't care for the prosciutto being cooked on top of the pizza. I actually prefer it the way Pizzeria Locale serves it, laid on top after it's taken out of the oven. But an excellent pizza regardless. We shared a salad, which was good, but nothing to write home about. My husband ordered one of the skillets and he's still talking about how good it was three days later! That says a lot b/c he doesn't savor food the way I do. We also shared some of the salami served with pizza dough covered with butter and salt- TO DIE FOR. Order this and you will not be disappointed. All of the employees working this past Friday night were super friendly, fast, and welcoming. I've been in Boulder since August and I wish I would have tried this place sooner!

Having moved here from the NY/NJ area Colorado pizza was just not doin' it for me. Then this place opened. I have been about 6 times, and have had amazing lunches and dinners EVERY time. The place has a simple ad slightly upscale feel, and I would say this matches the kind of food they are serving. The pizzas are not huge, and the price might cause some people to question it, but every detail on the pizzas is perfect. I highly recommend the Margharita and White Pizza. Amazing fresh mozz, basil and tomatoes on the Marg are always so, so, so good in combination, and this pizza tastes like summer. Not greasy like some Margs and really showcases their excellent crust. Everything I've eaten has been just right without being "fussy" but the stunner for me is their white pizza. Let me say this: when I'm getting pizza with friends and they want to order white pizza I always try to order something else. For me, sauce and tomatoes have always been central to good pizza. Their white pizza has CHANGED ME! The crust and cheeses are superb in combination and the fresh arugula on top . . . . mmmm, perfection. Gives this pizza a slightly crisp, almost spicy, tang with the cheeses. Hungry just thinking about it. Great service and relaxed meals complete my wonderful experiences here. Will definitely be back!

Ehhhhh - that pretty much sums it up. We had a gift card, so we went. Definitely wouldn't go back with our own money. The burrata was good, I'll give them that. Pizzas were sub par. Seemed like everything was extra. Want extra cheese? .. Well, If you want the good stuff you have to pay extra. Sorry, but if the pizza starts at $14... Why should I have to pay more for a little extra cheese. You're already making money on me. Plus, shouldn't it all be "the good stuff"? Why are you an over priced pizza place with lesser quality cheese to begin with? Everything just seemed over priced for what it was. They just didn't seem to value the customer and their food wasn't good enough to have that kind of attitude. Staff was friendly for the most part, I guess. I'd say skip it. MUCH better pizza places in town.

Awesome pizza... Fresh ingredients, and good prices. Try the wood fired Caesar and the basic margherita pizza. Haven't been able to go wrong so far!

  • Heather B.

Very disappointing! We were told this place was outstanding and the reviews seemed to concur. However, I think this is a case of people not knowing what this style of pizza should taste like or good food at all, for that matter. The cooks don't know how to use a wood fired oven or it's broken. For $54(to-go, so no tip in that price) we got 1 small 12" pizza (the only size they have), 1 salad and 2 desserts. (1.) Pizza should not be burnt on the bottom.. (2.) A Margherita pizza should have more than 2 small basil pieces. (.3.) Very scant smear of sauce should have some flavor at least if that's all you get(and I am not an"extra" sauce person) ( 4.) Cheese should not be cooked so long it separates the oils and proteins making it a non-melty, spread out lump of milk proteins.(5.) Salad was premade and had that stale lettuce flavor. (6.) For the hype of the place, the salad dressings should be house made (7.) The desserts were pricey for the cheater version of Panna Cotta with obvious artificial flavors and gelatin and the Chocolate Budino was unpalatable and bitter. My mother and I wanted to cry. We're both disabled on a fixed income and this was our monthly treat. We felt very tricked. I've made better homamade pizzas on tortillas at home with my own sauce.

  • Liz W.

I really enjoy their pizza here. The salads leave something to be desired, they could use some chopped up veggies and a wider choice of dressings. I would say some of their options are pretty overpriced, I ordered their veggie pizza which was $16 and it seriously lacked the ingredients they had listed, which was a disappointment, especially since it was a white pizza so no extra flavor from a marinara sauce. I'd say go in for their lunch deal, salad, pizza and iced tea for $10 is a steal. Better not to go with a big group as it seems they are still figuring it out in the kitchen, we all got our pizzas and my brother had to wait another 5-10 min for his (without an explanation) - I hate when that happens at restaurants! I've experienced good and friendly service other than that. I think I'll give their happy hour a shot next time.

Just had my first experience at Pizzeria Da Lupo, and will be back for sure. I went there with a coworker for lunch, and was pleasantly surprised. While it was certainly not cheap, the quality was there to match the price. We got the lunch special, which is a margarita pizza, a salad and an ice tea, as wells as a prosciutto and humbolt fog panini. The panini was delicious, and was quite large as well. The lunch special was good, but less impressive. Both the salad and pizza were good, but pretty bland. On a whole I was impressed and the decor was very nice as well. It is a tough market out there for pizza places, as Boulder is pretty saturated, especially in the high end pizza market. I still like pizzeria locale and pizzeria basta better, but I was very pleasantly surprised with da Lupa. It looked like they had decent happy hour specials as well, I will have to give that a try soon.

Hmmm from reading some of the other reviews it would seem this place is hit or miss. Lucky for us it was all hits as far as I'm concerned. We split two salads (the tuna with greens and the shaved brussel sprout) and two pies (the special margherita and the Adam's). The salads were nicely dressed and plenty to share and the pies were very good! the special marg with mozz di buffala was perfectly topped and cooked with a slight char and had a great crisp and chewy texture to the crust. the Adam's which is basically a margh with prosciutto and roasted shrooms was also cooked and topped well. I had two tiny glasses of an Upslope Brown ale (but hey, they were only three bucks) and it was just the right amount of beer per salad and slices. I like this joint a lot!

I've been here for lunch and dinner. The menu looks and reads better than reality. But it's still decent. There are some interesting options on salads and panninis as well as pizza. But somehow I don't often feel like going back. I'd rather drive all the way out to Proto's in North Boulder.

Very delicious and traditional Italian pizza

The food is quite good. I've had the calamari, a few pizzas - my favorite being the celiche (sp?), pizza, wings. The prices are a bit high, in my opinion, and the lunchtime service the few times I've been in has been very hit or miss.

It seems to be a typical trend that folks are headed to Lark, see da Lupo and take a detour. Well, that was my case as well. My sis and I were intrigued by the ambiance of the place and decided to check it out: brick walls, chandeliers, and cozy tables for two (or four). This was a night where I was super hungry, so I needed food in stomach pronto. We ordered the mushroom polenta antipasti and the bianco pizza. The polenta was massive. Considering I was ravenous by this point, I downed it pretty quickly. I did observe, however, that the mushroom-polenta combination was a little odd. I preferred eating them separately. I had never tried mushrooms flavored that way. It was interesting...(is the only adjective I can think of at this point). There was also way too much polenta (at least for two people). Of course my stomach appreciated it at the time, but it took up space for the star of the evening. Bianco is Italian for white. The pizza was stacked with mozzarella, reggiano, parmesan, and ricotta (all white cheeses) with arugula on top. This, let me tell you, is a fabulous combination. The bread was also phenomenal, baked in what appears to be a brick oven. Melt in your mouth delicious. I could only eat one piece after all that polenta, but I was super happy to have it on reserve later that night. I will need to try a different antipasti next time I go, but it will be difficult to order a different pizza.

The place is very nice, although a bit expensive for what it is. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. The good: I had the classic tomato-mozzarella-basil salad. The tomatoes were heirloom and locally grown (even green zebra!), the mozzarella was house-made. I had a margherita pizza and it was delicious. The bad: The crust that came with the salad was overcoooked and pretty much inedible. Overall a great place. I'm coming back for happy hour!

Went here on a quiet night. The staff was animated, and the atmosphere was pleasant, although the music was rather loud. It's clear they're going for Hipster-chic, and they did that quite well. Although the menu was somewhat limited for vegetarians (they seem to be more proud of their in-house meats than anything else), the pizza I chose was just OK. The crust was excellent, bready and buttery, but the toppings on my Bianco were relatively bland, leaving me full, but still craving a pizza. My girlfriend liked her pizza a bit more, carried largely by the homemade meat they put on it. Unfortunately, their prices are a bit more artisanal than their pizza, so a simple two-pizza meal still ended up in the $30 range with tip. I suspect I'd have had a different experience if I ate meat, as that really seems to be their focus, but based on this one, we're likely not to come back. Boulder is not wanting for Pizza places. Tossa is only a block away for better artisanal pizza. Martino's (way) up Arapahoe has better thin-crust, and Cosmos at 30th and Baseline is better if you want a real, honest Pizza. This is not, as they claim over and over again, Boulder's best Pizza. However, Pizzeria Da Lupo is most assuredly Boulder's Hippest Pizza. So, if your jeans are skinny enough and your glasses frames thick enough to get into it, eating anywhere but Pizzeria Da Lupo would just be ironic.

My pizza was burnt on the bottom (more than it should be despite a wood fired oven), and the waitstaff was inattentive and seemed bored and hurried all at once. The atmosphere lacked spunk and I was unimpressed overall.

Unique, freshly made pizza. Yummy, thinly sliced prosciutto with warm, delicious ricotta cheese and fresh arugula. This place was quiet, homey and comfortable. They have a good selection of beer. My boyfriend ordered the panini with goat cheese, prosciutto and arugula. He got 4 pretty big sized sandwiches. The goat cheese was warm and creamy. The servers and chefs were very kind and welcoming! I had a wonderful time and would recommend this place for any authentic pizza lover.

Some of the best pizza in Boulder. We take all of our out-of-town visitors here and they all want to come back to eat here. Their pizza crust is the perfect amount of chewy and crusty and their toppings are creative and delicious ( I like the T.J's pizza). Plus their brussel sprout salad is amazing.....You will not be disappointed!

Pizza and service are ok. But more important is the fly problem at this place. Found groups of flys on the wall and had to swat flys away the entire time I was there eating. I don't think I'll go back here papa johns is better anyway...

Extremely disappointing dining experience. This restaurant needs to take Customer Service and Health 101 courses and fire their chef. My party ordered the calamari. It was rubbery and inedible, so my party returned the dish to the waitress. Not only did she refuse to substitute the dish for another of our liking, but she refused to remove the cost from our bill. The waitress even went so far as to say the chef tasted the dish and found it satisfactory. What happened to the philosophy that the customer is always right? It took a lot for our group to return the dish, and to be treated so poorly is unacceptable. Does anyone find it weird that the chef tasted our food after we took a few bites? The whole experience was shocking. The pizza was good, but not worth the trouble. DO NOT GO HERE!

The food was ok, nothing too special and a little pricy for the ok quality level. I had the Salsiccia which has house-made fennel sausage, rapini, ricotta and house-made mozzarella with chili flakes and I would have it again. The crust was good and the fennel sausage was an interesting flavor. Pizzeria da Lupo is ok. The place is very hipster trendy and not at all my style. They are also very meat based which is not good considering that they are located in Boulder. The atmosphere was a bit loud and that was only with one other couple in the whole place.

This place is a diamond in the rough (i.e. a gourmet Italian pizza place with great prices and an authentic brick oven, open kitchen, and spot-on wine selections.....in a strip mall).

We've been going to da Lupo since it opened, and it has only improved over time. Note everything I mention is made in-house. Their dough is wonderful, served both via the pizza but also as a side with olive oil when ordering something like the tapenade (made with castelvetrano olives) or the burrata (with pistacho & lemon confit, incredible). We usually have those two items to start, with a "palate cleanser" side of some sliced endive & fennel. Following that we enjoy the Adam's pizza, picture attached, They have a "old school Italian" prosciutto slicer with the entire leg of prosciutto there and ready for slicing. Adds the authentic experience and of course flavor and quality. San Marzano tomatoes are used, another sign of the gourmand quality of the offerings. We sit at the bar to watch them work the wood burning oven and assemble everything. The menu has a variety of items and is competitively priced. Might I suggest the Nebbiolio to accompany your meal. And save room for desert!

The pizza here was pretty good, although my first visit was punctuated by a small drama when some guy (in handcuffs) managed to escape from the backseat of a police car and run into the place next door to hide. It seemed like every police person in Boulder was running around looking for the guy. In the meantime, I had pizza. It was very good. Handcuff Guy won't taste pizza this good while he's rotting in jail. It's as good as another "locale" place in town, but with fewer hipsters. Parking is, however, pretty grim.

I'm just going to start by saying that I've scored this 4-stars but this is ALL ABOUT the food and not the service. I've had terrific service at this restaurant, but just a few days ago I visited again with a friend and was not impressed by my waiter. The service was curt, non-attentive and totally lacking in personality. The food however was GREAT... even though I ordered one appetizer and received something completely different. The pizza is simply without peer in Boulder. Nothing comes close. Wishing for a better experience next time.

A real gem in boulder. Good pizza, good ingredients, good cured meat selection, and a great happy hour. Cheap slices and half off bottled beer. Plus, their slices during happy hour are not your usual slices. They're more like a pizza sandwich, with a crust on top and on bottom of your requested ingredients. Two slices normally does the trick for me. Also, they have Delirium Tremens, my favorite belgian brew.

This is the best pizza in Boulder! My husband and I tried everything from Proto's to Tossa and we keep going back to Da Lupo. Their pizza has delicious, chewy crust that is just the right thickness, a rich, tomato sauce, and homemade mozzarella. Their $10 lunch special (iced tea, a small salad, and a margarita pizza) is the best deal in town. The space and the service do leave something to be desired, however. The restaurant is cramped and not super kid friendly. Some of the service staff are engaged and attentive while others aren't. However, we can overlook this for the delicious, authentic pizza.

$25,000 ovens do not make all things equal. I was looking forward to visiting this place based on reviews and friends' desires to go here. Contrary to other reviews here, they were put off my Lupo's long line and went to Larkburger instead. But that's another story. Lupo has a solid happy hour which is nice. It allows you to sample two different pizzas for $6 (Margarita, Marinara), $4.50 paninis, and some other food items. They also have a tempting burrata which I might still try in the future. Dinner started with a small plate of sea salt, oregano, red pepper, and grated parmesan cheese. Almost thought I was getting complimentary bread soon. I found the Margarita pizza to be uninspiring and lacking in flavor. I enjoyed the oil coming from it as it allowed the sea salt easier latching. That was a tasty combo, but I was hoping the pizza to be able to stand alone in flavor and not need the accoutrement. Honestly, a part of me wanted buffalo cheese on the pizza too. Service was friendly, I liked the open kitchen style, though the staff were a distraction. Food was remarkably filling. It was an overall ok experience.

We came here on a weekday for dinner, and it was great. Our server was really friendly and knowledgeable about the great beer menu. We got a salad and shared a pizza, and both were delicious. I really liked the atmosphere too--laid-back and cozy. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and will likely be back.

Wine selection, atmosphere, service, open kitchen and brick oven are all great. This is a newer place where you'll still see an old, most likely italian couple sharing some well put together food and pizza with a stellar crust. That said. it's pricey. But I suppose quality food warrants that.

I honestly am hesitant of store front restaurants but Lupo delivered. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and stellar service. Their beer selection was small but the wine we settled on was perfect. We ended up with a pizza, the gluten-free eggplant risotto, and a couple of salads. Since we were sitting at the bar, we were able to see all the food prepared and were able to get each of our entrees perfectly fresh. As the night went on and it was time for us to head home, we were glad we chose Lupo. Another unexpected gem in Boulder and so much more to try.

The smell of the wood fire hits you as soon as you open the door. The atmosphere is nice but casual with tables in front and booths in the back. Our server was friendly and competent. We ordered the toast and prosciutto ($9) and the Saliche Pizza ($13). The prosciutto was delicious and it was a nice serving size. The toast was made from grilled pizza dough with olive oil; it tasted fine but we only received two really small pieces. The Saliche PIzza was also delicious, especially the fennel sausage. The rappini, sausage, mozzarella, and ricotta came together really nicely. It was sort of weird that they only cut the pizza into four slices -- we would have preferred it to be cut into six or eight. I think the sausage would have been better if it was crumbled rather than sliced. I only got one piece of sausage on one of my slices (which was 1/4 of the pizza!). My main complaint is the tiny beer they served (8 or 10 ounces). If you're not going to serve a pint, that should be indicated on the menu. I ordered a Shiner Bock b/c it was $3, but then it arrived and was really only 1/2 of a beer. Shiner Bock should be $3/pint not $3/half-pint... Otherwise, we were pretty happy and are looking forward to going back sometime to try some of the other menu items...

Three stars feels a bit harsh, but I can't say I'm a fan yet. I know a restaurant wants to hook me, an ex-Texan, when they offer $6 Happy Hour pizza and Shiner beer. You can't find Shiner on tap too many places in CO, but it seems to be growing. Anyway, the pizza was decent, but charred on the bottom, as others mentioned. I know you get what you pay for, but I'm thinking even if I did pay full price it would have tasted a bit like licking a bbq pit. Ack. The beer was awesome, service was very accommodating, but the pizza lacked. I did like the sauce, but it didn't help enough. I agree that you shouldn't talk up your $25,000 oven if someone isn't going to watch the pizza in the first place.

Friends love this joint but when we went earlier this spring, well maybe they had an off-day. We actually tried a few evenings before but they had already closed at 9pm on a Saturday evening. For 12:30pm on Tuesday it was pretty empty, i.e., only one other table besides us when we arrived). They can seat about 40. The lunch special consisted of just one item, margerita pizza with a drink. The walls are filled with pictures of famous people (actors) and that usually reeks of just one thing: tourist trap, but I'll leave the final opinion to you. The waitress was excited to get us started but when we declined tap water she immediately got miffed. Considering Colorado is pretty much constantly in a drought condition, that kind of attitude was not very encouraging. We had the house special pizza di lupo with shrimp. Half of the pie was covered in charcoal. When we pointed this out the waitress offered to do a new one. The second pizza had slightly undercooked shrimp and a fruitfly on one of them. It was badly burned at the bottom. The manager/owner was sitting at the bar and could overhear every conversation we had with the waitress. No apologies were offered. We won't be back.

Meh. Dined here with a friend, and have to say I probably won't bother returning. First thing we noticed is the beer and wine list (especially the beer list) is small and pedestrian quality. With pizza places like Basta and Backcountry offering plentiful good beer (esp. Backcountry), I'd have to have a strong reason to come here instead...namely the food would have to be superior. It may have been fine to just offer swill like Moretti and PBR ten years ago, but these days more and more beer geeks demand to have the same quality stuff at a restaurant as they do at home. An Orval, for example, or perhaps Boulevard Tank 7. So, seriously, the food here had better be bloody awesome in order to draw me away from restaurants like Basta, Backcountry, Oak, Pinyon, The Kitchen/Upstairs, etc. We started off with the polenta-and-mushroom appetizer. Simple and unexciting. It didn't do anything wrong, per se, it just didn't inspire. We each got pizzas...myself the most expensive one on the list, the special margherita and my friend got the saliche. I will say that the crust is very nice...chewy and firm and flavorful, almost like good crusty Italian bread. The sauce and toppings were...well...ok. Nothing special. Compare with, say, Basta, where the sauce by itself is vibrant and delicious. Granted, Backcountry's pizzas aren't that great, but they're not much worse than here. Our waitress and the rest of the staff were pleasant, no complaints there. So...what can I say? 3-star food and 1-star beverages equals 2 stars overall. Stick with Basta and Backcountry (or heck, you can even get a decent pizza at Upstairs@Kitchen, even if it's only one kind, along with lots of very good brews and wines to choose from).

I'm a pie guy. Make it myself, and consider myself an aficionado. I ordered the "da lupo" pizza...shrimp, red onion, and capers. Absolutely amazing. The crust was perfection; flavor on point. I came in very hungry and left stuffed to the rafters. Will be going back shortly for sure. One of my new faves!

The first time I went here with my boyfriend we were greeted by three different people which may seem like a bit of overkill for some but it just made us feel welcome. It is a smaller pizzeria but what I like most about this place is that you can sit at the bar and watch the pizzas going in and out of the wood burning oven which is pretty cool and you get to watch the process of making a pizza. I was told that they make everything there..from the dough to the sauces. They have an EXCELLENT assortment of different types of cheese. I wouldn't suggest going there if you're on a budget because even with happy hour options things get pretty pricey. For the two of us splitting an appetizer, two pizzas, and a few beers it was nearing $60 which is a bit too much for the typical crowd..but that was without happy hour prices. With happy hour prices I'd say our bill was around $45 which is still pretty pricey. But if you want a unique experience with a friendly atmosphere and don't mind spending a few extra bucks this is place to go!

I came here with a large booth and we tried most of the pizzas, all of which were delicious. It was fairly busy and we had a group of 8 but the service was quick. After a couple rounds of $2 PBRs our table and the waitress were pretty much all BFFs. The staff was great and other than the place being a bit pricey (aside from beer) it was a great dining experience.

Pizzeria da Lupo makes me feel like I've suddenly left Boulder and stepped back into Rome! I LOVE their pizza. Their ingredients are always fresh and their crust is out of this world. Service is consistently good and the decor is neat. My absolute favorite is their bianco pizza -- house made mozzarella, parmesan, ricotta, and arugula --- so simple but amazingly delicious!

My boyfriend and I came here for a relaxing Friday evening. I really liked the atmosphere-- warm, nice decorations, friendly staff. We ordered two pizzas and some beer. The ingredients on my margherita pizza were simple and fresh-tasting...from what I could tell. I love wood-fired pizza, but mine was really burnt on the bottom. Instead of that awesome woodsy flavor, it was overpoweringly sooty. At first, I thought it was ok, but then I ended up scraping most of the ingredients off and eating them separately. Once I got the toppings off the burnt crust, I really liked the yummy basil, tomatoes and house-made cheese. Hopefully my pizza won't be so burned the next time around.

Pizzeria da Lupo is the best pizza in Boulder. The crust is kind of crunchy (by crunchy I mean NOT soggy) and it has traditional Neapolitan style pizza. It is delicious. Good place for a date or a group. The service is very friendly and it's a fun atmosphere. Don't miss it!

I wanted to do something really different to surprise my husband for our anniversary. I read about the VW bus Date Night for Two and made a reservation. Sam was incredibly helpful and made all the right suggestions for appetizers, food choice, and destination. I totally surprised my husband and we enjoyed an incredible night out. The food -- from the antipasti to the mozzarella salad to the margherita pizza to the chocolate budino (an amazing mix of rich chocolate and olive oil and sea salt, amazing!) -- was perfect, the bus was totally cool, Sam was an excellent chauffer/host, and we got to watch the stars come out over Boulder from a scenic lookout at Flagstaff Mountain under a nearly full moon. It's hard to impress my husband, who grew up in a house in NJ full of Italian chefs, but he loved all the food and the total experience. I would highly recommend the restaurant for their great food and service, and the VW bus Date Night for Two if you are looking for a truly unique experience or way to celebrate a special occasion. We'll definitely be back for more pizza!

Their marinara pizza is so delicious - I've had it many times, and it always comes out perfectly cooked. This pizza plus the cozy atmosphere is what keeps me coming back during happy hour. I've also enjoyed a pizza that had ricotta and arugula on it, along with a cheddar and tomato panini. Their house wines are good too. Never had dessert but I hear it's tasty. The menu selections are a bit limited (both in terms of food and alcohol) but that's ok with me - reasonably priced delicious food in a relaxing environment works fine!

We decided to try our 2nd of the 3 new "Italian" style Pizzerias. What we found was very good Italian style pizza (thin crust, very hot oven, tasty and simple toppings) combined with some very good and interesting salads- We found this to be less "perfect" (?pretentious? than the new "Pizza Locale") in a comfortable, warm setting.

Atmosphere- interesting decor, good music Food- lukewarm pizza, decent salad, good lemonade Service- poor- host tried to seat the party behind us first and then tried to make me feel bad when I pointed out that we were first in line, wait person too busy to stand still and take our order, she forgot to put olives on the pizza and seemed to be inconvenienced by having to bring me a dish of olives, hard to get her attention, so we had to wait quite a while to get our check. On a personal note, it makes me uncomfortable when waitstaff never make eye contact with me while talking to me as was the case tonight. Upshot- no need to return.

Pizzeria da Lupo has certainly got the atmosphere of their restaurant down. When we walked in for a Sunday night dinner, the smell was the first thing I noticed: burning wood, pizza, fresh dough. The decor is very cozy, with photographic knick knacks on the walls and warm incandescent lighting. The open kitchen entices your appetite as you watch them fire pizzas and toss salads. We sat down at a small table for two, and our waiter promptly came to meet us with a bottle of water. After looking at the fairly short and simple menu, we chose three appetizers to start off the dinner: prosciutto and toast, the mozzarella with tomato and olive oil, and the brussel sprout salad. The prosciutto was divine (but what prosciutto isn't?), and it was served with two pieces of bread similar to their pizza dough. Unfortunately, one of the pieces was a bit too charred, and it would have been nice to have three or four pieces rather than two. The house-made mozzarella was served with oven cooked tomatoes and more of the bread. The cheese was milky and luscious, the dish was enjoyable, though I'm not quite sure why it is listed under salads on the menu. Finally, I thoroughly enjoyed the brussel sprout salad. The sprouts were finely chopped and tossed with crushed, toasted walnuts and grated pecorino cheese. The cheese was the dominant flavor, with the bite of the sprouts making it interesting. Our server advised us that, since we had had some appetizers, one pizza was likely a suitable amount of food for two people. We took his advice and ordered the Saliche pizza, featuring fennel sausage, rapini, ricotta, and mozzarella. The dough was delicious, and had good structure to support the pizza. Big lumps of cheese gave a creamy texture, and the sausage added some meaty undertones. One of the four pieces of pizza was a bit too charred, which was a minor annoyance. The size of the pizza was adequate for us - one can feed two somewhat hungry people or one very hungry person. We finished our dinner with a small chocolate dessert - I forget what the server called it, but it was a baked chocolate pudding in a shell. Richly chocolaty, the touches of sea salt and olive oil elevated it to a wonderful finish to the meal. Pizzeria da Lupo is a good addition to dining in Boulder. The aforementioned meal cost about $50, and I was very satisfied with what I got. Their use of cheese is excellent in all of their dishes, and the pizza is quite good as well. Aside from a few charring issues, I have no real complaints. Recommended.

I've been back a few times and I have to say the pizza has been inconsistent. I'm sure it has to do w/ the oven, but this makes me very sad because the dough was amazing the first time around. Our 2nd visit brought a charred bottom to one of the pizza's we ordered and our 3rd visit almost made me cry. We went for Happy Hour, for a $6 pizza (score!), but the dough was cracker thin and burnt (sad face). Where did my pillowy deliciousness go? Please da Lupo, please don't stretch the dough to a cracker crust and please don't char the bottoms.

Very tasty pizza. Nice elasticity to the crust along with a good crunch. Interesting flavors (mine was fennel sausage with rapini). I'm definitely coming back. If they keep this up I'm thinking I may revise to a four star. BTW they make a decent single espresso. Lavazza. Not watery (why is that so hard to do?). I'm an early fan.

Wonderful Neapolitan-style pizzas. Perfect crust, and just the right amount of toppings (minimalist). It's better pizza than Radda or the Med. Whoever is running the place is passionate about authenticity. They have some nice wines by the glass, and tasty desserts. The ambiance is great - they've done a good job decorating. It's the kind of place you'd expect to see tucked in next to The Kitchen. In fact, I wish they were downtown so we could walk from home. However, it's quite pricey for what it is; we spent nearly $50 for 2 pizzas, 2 glasses of wine, and a split dessert. At that price I'm thinking of Zolo, around the corner, not simple, basic, delicious pizza. If it cost 20% less I'd give it 5 stars. If you haven't been to Naples, you owe it to yourself to go to this restaurant at least once to experience this kind of pizza.

Went here last night for the second time and I really enjoyed it. The Brussel sprout salad with walnuts and pecorino was phenomenal, and this place probably has the best neapolitana style pizza in town, trust me ive had em all. Good happy hour deal as well.

Had a good dinner here last night. Pleasantly surprised by the look and feel of the interior, but if you're going to opt for an open kitchen I'd keep it a little cleaner and better organized. Had the roasted brussel sprout salad (excellent), and two pizzas - the special (pork ragu) and the Adam (shrooms, prosciutto, et al). Pizzas were good but crust's chew / crunch balance was skewed to chew. Basta sets the bar for pizza in Boulder.

Nice service and atmosphere. We had a caprese salad, which was pretty good, and the panchetta pizza, which was great. Bacon, onions and cheese ... excellent. The crust was a little chewier than would be perfect, but overall it was great. A salad and pizza split between the two of us was good for a light dinner, but I could have easily eaten a whole pizza myself.

Just getting around to writing this. Have had much better pizza and not burnt. Won't go back. Too many other places that have a better pizza

Best pizza in Boulder, depending on who's cooking that night but it's always nice to ask them to keep the crust nice and doughy. A true Italian style pizza though, first place in Boulder to really do it right. Anyone coming from a place outside of colorado who has a good sense of what good food is can agree on that.

Pizzeria da Lupo is a cute little Boulder restaurant. A group of us had a few of their pizzas and the pizza dough was really good! My favorite was the Margarita pizza. They also had some different desserts that were awesome!

Really good pizza. Prosciutto and mozzarella and olive oil also are really good. Amazing brown ale!

Meh is right. I'm not thrilled, I'm not intrigued. On the contrary, I ordered pizza, it came to me burnt, not wood oven fired looking...I know the difference...it was burnt. I sent it back and got another pizza...a little less burnt but nonetheless...burnt. I was there for lunch during work, so I had little time to keep sending things back and I was starving. I scarfed it down. It was not worth it. Toppings were "whatever" and the food just overall was "whatever"... The service was nice, she felt pretty bad, but I couldn't say anything. The location is great, the inside looks really nice, love the atmosphere....I just want to tell them to go eat at Pizzeria Basta, do some homework and try again.

We had the Margarita pizza (the boyfriend wanted more basil, and a more flavorful sauce), a ($40.00!!) bottle of Chianti, a field greens salad (OK), and the shaved brussel spouts salad which was fresh and good.

A real Italian restaurant. PdaLupo's dishes remind of the best of Italian food: good quality ingredients, simply prepared such that the quality ingredients speak for themselves. Last night's meal started with house-made mozz that was very good, together with prosciutto and roasted red peppers. The home-made flat bread that accompanied this appetizer was delicious and convinced me to add a pizza to my order. Before the pizza came, we enjoyed a delicious calamari small dish, which, again, was simple but delicious with perfectly cooked calamari in delicious olive oil, pepporincini and basil. The salad was a simply prepared shredded brussel sprouts with shaved almonds, dressed simply with high quality olive oil and lemon juice, a dressing that highlighted, rather than smothered, the freshness of the shaved brussel sprouts. Pizza was excellent, a la Pizzeria Locale but better. We capped our dinner with the Chocolate Budino with olive oil and salt. Oh, good service and I especially appreciate the wine recommendation: a Nebbiolo from Piedmont that was earthy and delicious, a good value at $9/glass.

Great pizza! Caprese salad was delicious. I can't wait to return and try new things. It does lack decent seating so arriving at off peak hours is my plan. The plaza it is located in has terrible parking as well.

Here is the problem as I see it. The servings were so small that I had to work very hard to control the expression on my face when the server put the plates on the table. I have been to very fancy restaurants all over the country where they give you a little tiny serving of a timbale or something. This wasn't even that. This was like they were making an actual joke. I cannot believe that any restaurant can charge this kind of money and offer such tiny servings. My salad was miniscule. The cecina was really, really small. The regular pizza was a normal size, but that was it. It seems like a very bad business decision, because really, do you have to do that to make money? The food tasted good--quite good, but I felt the same way I do when I realize I've lost a $20 bill that I had in my pocket. It just felt bad. I don't know how you can survive doing this. The server even mentioned that the cecinas (gluten-free) were small. He showed us with his hands about how big the piece was going to be. When it showed up, it was really about half that size. I almost laughed, as though we were on Candid Camera. I don't mean to be mean, and I know that opening any restaurant is tremendously hard work. It's just that it was so much money for so little food. We left the restaurant and then had to eat dinner again at home a half-hour later because we were so hungry!

Overall, I was disappointed. The pizza was really good, which is important. BUT, the salad was blah and the greens were wilted and discolored. The antipasto dish sounded great, but was a bit flavorless. And finally, the coffee was TERRIBLE. It tasted like instant coffee. I couldn't finish it.

  • Kathleen H.

Hurray!

  • Liz S.

Pretty dang good pizza - the thin, wood fired kind. Also - really enjoyed the calamari salad. Waiter was excellent. Cozy place. Well done!

Great service and a kind server on a busy night. Food was great. I would like the wine served in wine glasses however and not small juice glasses.
