Nepal Cuisine is one of my favorite places to get vegan food! I love to come on Mondays for their all-vegan lunch buffet, though I've heard they will accommodate vegans at other meals, too. I've had most of the vegan ethnic food in Boulder, including lots of Asian and Indian food in Boulder, and Nepal Cuisine is among the best. Their buffet is not only delicious, but distinct-tasting compared to other ethnic places. They also provide a wide variety of dishes at their buffet and it slightly changes each Monday, which I love--they keep the favorites and also give some variety, too. The staff is friendly, I feel like I'm going to a local establishment that really cares!

The food was fantastic! We made in time for the buffet and were not disappointed. There were plenty of veggie options so I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything. The only issue I had was that the food was so filling I didn't get to make more than one trip! The service was good, bit much to say about it as it was a buffet. I will definitely be going back!

Randomly, as we stopped for gas, we noticed this place. Seeing the overwhelmingly positive response on Yelp, we decided to try it. While my companions went straight for the buffet, I ordered off the menu. I asked out bubbly, adorable waitress for help selecting something good, but not too hot, and not just classic Indian, since I eat that regularly. She had a bit of difficulty at first, as she eats all the hot dishes, but laughed and smiled as she tried to help me out. She guided me to the soup on the Napalese Specialties section, and then made sure I didn't order the lamb, since that would be spicier than the others. I went with the chicken. It was delicious. The soup base reminded me slightly of a buttery wanton broth, but somehow creamier. It was somewhat subtle, and just the right strength. I didn't even think I wanted soup, but as I tore into those noodles and vegetables, I started getting excited. This was just what I needed. The sinus pressure I had been experiencing all day started to clear up. The flavones danced in my mouth. Then I took my first sip of the hot chai. The hot chai. Spiced to perfection. Just sweetened enough. Just the right proportion of milk. So often people over do (or under do) this beaver edge. Not so this time, dear reader. I ordered a second cup to go. I should now mention that the staff was amazing. Our waitress was adorable, friendly, perplexed at times, but always came though for us. When I told her we were in town for the night, and looking for a short view of the mountains, she told me where she went, then got the host, who was more nature-familiar. We struggled a bit to understand his accent, but he was so helpful, and never rushed us. He gave us several good directions to check out, and helped us a great deal. When it came time to get the check, he offered for me to try their rice pudding (Do it.), even though l didn't order the buffet. He didn't charge me either, and was so kind and friendly. Try this place. Do it. Get the chai, and try the rice pudding. Bring your enemies. The food will heal your wounds, and you will part as friends. There's no time to waste. Go!

Super yummy at a fantastic price. I'm not typically a buffet girl, but $13 for endless delicious Indian food was too good to pass up. They'll even being fresh naan to your table if they're out. The server was attentive and very sweet. I liked the option of being able to sit upstairs in the loft. Try the veggie somosas, they're quite yummy. The salad bar is satisfactory and nice for mixing greens into the other dishes

Every Monday is a wonderful vegan buffet from 11am to 3pm. It is so delicious and a great value at 10$ per adult. The samosas and sautéed okra are the best dishes there. Visit them for a wonderful meal with very friendly staff.

Insanely delicious with great service and lots of options! I went here for the Monday vegan buffet, but due to work, took the food for takeout. The people working were more than happy to accommodate me! So many options at the buffet including samosas, pakora, a.soup, salad, dessert, and many curries! My favorite was the coconut saag! The best part, only $9.95 without tax. A great way to sample many dishes! I love that they have embraced the vegan community. I only wish they did the buffet more often!

The food here is really good. Just don't sit all the way upstairs because it gets really hot.

We went with friends and all had the buffet. It was a new type of cuisine to all of us. The flavors and dishes are reminiscent of Indian cooking. As a vegetarian, I was very pleased with the buffet choices, and my meat-eating companions also had a lot of options. We left full and happy. Service was good, our plates were taken care of quickly and drinks kept full.

We stopped by for lunch buffet just before they were closing for the afternoon. It looked like they were starting to clean up and prepare for dinner. However, the available food was still good. Next time we will arrive earlier to gauge the full buffet.

I can't praise this place enough. Friendly and helpful staff, nice atmosphere, good indoor and outdoor seating, and absolutely delicious food. What I love most about it is that you can be eating the delicious food within about 3 minutes of arrival; just tell the staff you want the buffet, find your table, and dish up. It's in a part of town that is rarely a destination for me, but the restaurant itself is a destination.

Awesome. Could be spicier, but very good, and the lunch buffet is a great deal. Would go back at any time.

Thank you for the excellent vegan lunch buffet on Mondays. Not greasy, lots of options, pleasant service, and talented chefs.

I cannot believe how rudely I was treated. Alright I wasted a bit of food because I didn't like the potato in the potato/cabbage/cauliflower mix. The manager came to pick up the plates and his expression was in such shock that I wasted his food and appeared so annoyed. The server showed impatience too when I asked for my third cup of hot water because she had to go downstairs to get it. I had been a regular and a fan; I drove 15 min coming here for lunch and was really disappointed to be treated like this today. I don't want to come back until the day I am not criticized for wasting food in a ALL YOU CAN EAT buffet place!

My wife and I stopped here for the lunch buffet after a hike at NCAR, and we were so glad we did!! Their food was amazing (saag paneer and chicken curry were favorites), and we had inexpensive Sing Ha beers to go with our meal. We were absolutely in Heaven! Staff was very friendly and attentive. Makes me wish we lived in Boulder so we could visit here more often.

I was so torn on whether this was a 3 or 4 star experience for me. It really is a 3 1/2 rather than a 3. I tend to compare East indian/Nepali cooking to my current fav Yak and Yeti in Arvada and so by that alone I decided to give Nepal Cuisine a 3. This is like eating at a friend's house. Yak and Yeti is in an old Victorian House and Nepal Cuisine with it's rather residential style layout is like a condo or townhome. The staff was nice and when I asked for a menu the waitress suggested I eat off the buffet because to order a dish would take a lot longer so I took her advice. The flavors are muted compared to my fav and I'm not sure if that is good or bad. Depends what you're used to I guess. Again the comparison is like two different families home cooking. Some families don't like a lot of spice in their food. Most of my Indian friends do though and it just wasn't in here. The curry dishes didn't have any chile heat and very little turmeric, coriander, cardamon, cumin, fennel, etc. The saag paneer (which is my go to dish) was decent but had no cubes of paneer cheese but rather tasted like the paneer was an emulsion in which the spinach had been cooked in? The veggie pakora had a bit of an old oil taste to it. Maybe the main reason that I decided to go with three was the absence of naan. They did have papadams on the buffet but they're just not the same. I would eat here again but given the option I would wait and drive all the way to my fav.

Fragrant, subtle flavors that are unique, yet flow together easily, while pleasing your palate. A nice variety of veggie items are available. Great chicken momo. The only thing missing is yak, but few Nepalese and Tibetan restaurants in the USA offer it. Good energy in the restaurant, and good energy in the food. Friendly staff.

Vegan Buffet was Amazing. I was shocked at how good it was. I hate buffets, the food is old and cold and is usually yucky. Their food comes out fresh. Means you may have to wait 5 minutes for next batch, but it is worth it. Super filling and tasty. Its like having a family cook for me. Curry was amazing!! How did I not know about this sooner, I've been in Boulder for 5 years. Its a monday routine from here on out.

I made a cameo at the vegan lunch buffet offered Monday because I hate being "that" girl at restaurants asking if every single item offered is dairy-free. This way I could avoid such awkwardness. Of course, I declined to share this information with my dining companion, and he searched in vain for the meat entrees. He admitted that the dishes were quite tasty, however. I loved this buffet! It is like dying and going to Heaven for vegans/lactose intolerant folks who generally have to surpass the rice pudding and the saag (creamy spinach dish typically made with cream which they make with coconut milk instead). I ate more dairy-free rice pudding then would a bear who had it as their only option for hibernation prep. My favorite dish was the vegetable curry, but the veggie pakora was a close second. I also loved that they offered brown rice in addition to the standard basmati. Along with the curry they served a bamboo/black eyed pea dish, a small salad bar, daal soup, some sort of pureed squash dish and samosas. Everything was fantastic and not a bad value at 9.95!

We love this place and go pretty often. We always do the buffet and leave extremely happy and full. I feel like I'm walking into a different world when I go in there given the smells and friendliness and hospitality of the staff. The food is always delicious and I love the variety at the buffet. I can't imagine going anywhere else in Boulder for Nepali food.

2012 Review #328: Since my first visit, I've returned a couple of times for the buffet, once for dinner and once for lunch. Overall, this is probably my preferred buffet in Boulder but the price and lack of options are prohibitive. We came about 20 minutes after they opened today and when we arrived there were 8 items being offered, including rice and papadum. This restaurant does not make naan, which might be a deal breaker for some, but they do make roti. According to the website, roti is included in the buffet, but it was not visible and we were never asked if we wanted any. I didn't check the website before we went so we assumed that roti would have cost extra. Not specifying on the whiteboard advertising the buffet is misleading and makes me feel like they're just avoiding making product unless specifically asked. Eventually, they also brought out aloo gobi and some pakora. Of what I tried, things were fresh with food flavors. Some spices were a bit big for me- I got some bites with big pieces of spice that made the whole bite very overwhelming floral. Also, the saag was almost white it had so much cream in it. It certainly tasted good but it seemed to be more cream than spinach and I'd rather not waste the calories. We were going to leave because they still had not put out desserts but then some kheer appeared- not my favorite but maybe it wasn't given time to meld after being prepared? No galub jamun or other dessert options. This is definitely a Nepalese restaurant trying to do an Indian buffet and I wish they would embrace their Nepalese dishes more because I think the authenticity would have been nice. So, it's limited but has some tasty options, but is $10 and may not include bread? They have a full bar but be advised they have the cheapest wells I've seen- who knew Taaka made gin? The owners are very sweet and I hope they do well, though this doesn't completely satisfy my Indian craving. Oh and in our 30 minute visit, a single song played the whole time, so bring lively conversation or be ready to commit Himalayan chorus to memory for the foreseeable future.

Tastes good...boring after a few bites though. It is located in an odd, monotone, 90s office park/condominium development. Good iced chai tea

Ho hum for Indian/Nepalese food, especially in a town loaded with restaurants serving this cuisine. The selection was only so-so on the buffet with not a single dish that shined...I hate a buffet where you leave not even able to remember what dishes you had (except for the runny saag...that one was pretty hard to forget, for all the wrong reasons...)

This was a good change of pace from all the american food we were having. Buffet was good and had a nice variety. Samosas, pakora, saag with paneer, salad, rice pudding, and chicken. Good service with tasty authentic food.

This place is one of my faves! Genre: Buffet/ sit down Service:5/5 Food:5/5+ Ambiance:5/5 Overall: 5/5 I only go here mondays for their vegan buffet! Its simply delectable! They even have some gluten free options that are vegan as well! Such a wonderful place, if you have the time from 11-3 on mondays it's way worth it for just about $10 JB's sugestions: Brown rice, coconut curry, squash (sweet potato dish),

I eat this genre of food A LOT (north indian, south indian, pakistani), going out to eat it about once a week in various places around the world with my job which keeps me on the road. I was torn between a 3 and 4 star review because while I understand it is probably good for the area, being in Boulder and all, I have actually had better in nearby Colorado towns and much better in other parts of the country. What led me to choose a 4-star rating is the quality of the ingredients, and the surprisingly colorful plate of seemingly fresh food I had assembled from the lunchtime buffet. I was impressed that the lentils in the soup and the beans in the Nepal White Bean dish were slightly al dente, proving that they were made fresh. Indian restaurants have a reputation for reheating and serving 2-day-old food because of various taste and economic reasons. Whatever the case, it appears that this restaurant cares about making sure things are fresh and it shows. On the downside, the selections are relatively few (about 6 veggie dishes, a chicken curry and tandoori chicken). I am used to twice that many at the buffets that we frequent on the West Coast and in Houston. The included Roti is thin and great, but gets a little stiff very quickly, so eat it while it's hot. I wish there were some version of Mahkani (paneer or veggie or chicken) or Korma or Tikka Masala on the buffet. And the cabbage dish was delicious, but not hot enough - perhaps an adjustment of the buffet station boiling temp is in order... The chai comes out with a nice chai flavor, but is very sweet. Not sure if the sweetness can be adjusted. Although it would be great to live in the neighborhood next door and walk to this place to eat, I will probably try another local place before deciding who in Boulder has the best food of this genre. That's only because I'm super picky and know these flavors well. But if fresh is what you're after, look no further. I've rarely experienced fresher than this place!

I went to the vegan buffet on a Monday. Kudos to this restaurant for offering a vegan buffet. The dishes were very tasty and not greasy. I would have given it a 5-star rating if they had replenished the fast-disappearing samosas quicker! Had to wait for it twice. Else an excellent experience. Please continue with the vegan buffet!

Absolutely yummy. Small quaint atmosphere, staff is very friendly, food is amazing. The butter was regularly attended to, which was nice to see, all of the customers were super friendly also. Now I wish I lived here.

Went on a cold -cold fall night and was really glad for the warm and friendly service, buffet dinner and variety of food offered in the buffet. We also ordered a to go order of chili chicken. The quality of meats in the buffet is much better than most restaurants in its category. I think that explains why the buffet was $14 per person. They had momos ( Tibetian / Nepalese dumplings) for appetizers in the buffet. Great tasting and cooked perfectly. They did not have naan in the buffet but they served freshly made rotis when you asked. Really thin and soft rotis. * for that alone! The chili chicken was a tad bit too spicy for our taste and way too oily. Over all a good place when I am in some mood for Indian and do not want to cook!

  • Alexandra R.

I ADORE this place!!! The staff, first of all, is beyond helpful and friendly! This sets the mood once you enter. You can tell they've put a lot of heart and soul into their restaurant. There is a buffet available for both lunch and dinner, but do not fear, the selection is plentiful and outstanding!! The ingredients are fresh, rich, and have a very authentic flavor to them (way less Americanized than a lot of other Indian restaurants). I can always count on almost everything (besides the occasional one or two items) to be gluten free as well! One of my favorite restaurants in Colorado, for sure!

Lunch time just got so much better now that I have found the lunch buffet at Nepal cuisine. I've gone a number of times and the food is always fantastic, and the buffet is awesome! On Mondays they have an all vegan lunch buffet, but they have veg-friendly items regularly on the menu. All the food is fresh and delicious. The samosas are great- not too doughy and filled plenty with veggies. They have vegetable curry, lentils, bean dishes, and one of my favorites- the spinach in coconut sauce. They also have salad and condiments like the oh so delicious tamarind chutney. I love the dessert they put out, kheer- an Indian style rice pudding. When you go try the soy chai which is aromatic and sweet, as well as one of the Indian beers such as Maharaja. It's not the biggest lunch buffet I've been to, but everything you get is quality. Not to mention the staff is so incredibly nice. The owner is always there and he's really humble, always filling in to serve when needed. The location is quaint, there's all kind of cultural decor on the walls, and an outdoor seating area. The only bummer about this place is they aren't open on Sundays. But I guess they have to rest at some point to prepare those delicious dishes!

  • Eric R.

Went here for lunch - they only do a lunch buffet, and it doesn't have a huge selection, but it is SooOo worth it. Amazing food. The chicken curry was far and above the best, and sits up there with some of the best curry I have EVER had. Awesome. Try the rice pudding too - but don't take a bunch or you're going to walk away diabetic :) By the way, we ate ourselves silly, and the bill? $10 a head. Plus the staff are really friendly. No brainer, just go here.

Hot & delicious! The couple (I assume) running the place were extremely polite and the place itself was very clean, quiet (pleasant music) and warm! Highly recommend if you're in the mood for some delicious Indian/Nepalese food. The only thing I wish there was more of would be an even wider buffet, including n'an bread. All in all, yummy and affordable.

What a fantastic restaurant! Last night was my first experience with Nepali cuisine and I was extremely impressed. From the moment I walked into Nepal Cuisine, I was greeted with warm and friendly faces. My Chai tea had the perfect amount of sweet and spice and the food was hot and fresh. I loved the chicken tikka and the samosas. None of the food was extremely spicy, yet it all had great flavor. I will definitely be back and would recommend to anyone!

  • Sara S.

My boyfriend and I wandered in here on a Friday night and had the buffet. The food was delicious, and was still pretty full for it being almost 9 o clock. My favorite was the chicken tikka and the bread they leave for you too. I also enjoyed the rice pudding, just the right amount of cinnamon. We will be returning, thanks Nepal Cuisine!

  • Cielo G.

Lunch buffet had an average to smaller selection (6-7 main items) than similar places. Overall, the food was prepared deliciously. My only dislike was the saag paneer: it was soupy as a result of so much dairy(cream/milk). If that is your liking, enjoy. Canned fruit was the only option for fruit - not appealing. Willing to try again, but may look around.

  • Bryan M.

Great food. Good service. It's always nice to have a few more options, but the food was really quite good. I'm not sure how much the recipes or options rotate from day to day, but I loved the Veggie Pakora. The best thing about this place is how quickly you can get in and out and still have a good meal and a conversation. I'll definitely be back.

Great food, I have a friend who is Indian (about the same food at it's core) and he loved it as well. We had the buffet so we could try a nice cross section of the menu, the samosa's were great, the tamarind chutney was ok, not the best but still good. The bhati were great, fresh, crispy and not greasy at all. The paneer was nice, could have used more spice, but can't really expect a lot of spice on a buffet. The chili chicken was great, tandoori chicken was great, the rice was nice as well. Overall we'll go back for sure, my only suggestion is to make it a bit more spicy.

Found this place on Yelp, of course! So happy I did too because I have never had Nepalese food and this was the best place to take my first dip. First off, I read about the owners and how warm and friendly they are and it's actually true. I felt like I was a guest in their home and they were very gracious hosts. Secondly, I have never had Nepalese food but it was some of the best food I have ever had! I didn't even know what half the stuff I was eating was, but it was very tasty and delicious. Even the light wafery bread pieces were so good that I ate a few of them. We went with the recommendation of going to the lunch buffet and it worked for us. It was cheap and we were able to sample a lot of food. I am very happy that I trusted my fellow Yelpers. Thanks for the awesome reviews of this place and pointing me in the right direction for my first taste of Nepal in America!

I came here solo for the buffet yesterday. Saag paneer, potato cauliflower dish and rice pudding were yummy! There were two chicken dishes -- tandoori and chicken curry. Both were pretty good. (Yes. I tried everything). A dish with kidney beans was pretty tasty, the samosas were aight, the fried veggie fritters were decent. The lentil soup was meh, but forgivable. Pretty good for a buffet though! Attentive servers, not too crowded and super reasonable price.

  • Banjo G.

The staff here are very friendly, I thought that the environment was welcoming, and the food was great. I have to say that this place arguably offers the best vegan selection in town. The vegetable samosas are flaky and full of flavor. The restaurant is more Nepalese than northern Indian, so they do not serve naan--but this is not a plus or minus in my book.

    (5)
  • Todd B.

My wife and I went here for dinner tonight and ordered a-la-carte instead of trying the extensive dinner buffet. I'm glad we did. The buffet looked good, but it was nice to try a few items off the beaten path. I specifically wanted Nepali dishes instead of the usual Americanized northern Indian dishes that are so much more popular. So we had daal (soup), a jumbo roti filled with veggies, vegetable momos (dumplings), and stir fried mustard greens with a lot of spices. Every dish was distinctive in both look and taste. And it all came to $36 including tax and tip. I'll be back.

  • Wade J.

I've been here a few times and while the food is really good, the buffet selection can be a little limited. Adding a couple more entrees to the selection would definitely put a 5th star on my review. The service and food are both exceptional.

The buffet! So many vegetarian options. So much food. So incredibly tasty. Do some belly stretching exercises, then come here prepared for a glutton fest. Once you taste this food, there's no chance you're going to be stopping anytime soon.

This review is extremely overdue. We have been enjoying Nepal Cuisine for over two years, mostly in the form of carry-out every Thursday night (we live a few blocks away), but have also dined in for the buffet a few times. We usually order the same thing for carry out: chicken tikka masala (yes, I know it's not authentic, but it's delicious), one of the Nepalese specialties (chili chicken or chicken chau-chau), samosas, and raita. The true quality of the food was proved to us recently. Machhendra and Ratna (the owners and chef) went home to Nepal for a nephew's wedding in February, and we tried a number of other Indian and Nepalese restaurants while they were gone. None, and I mean none, compared. We could not wait until they got home. And we weren't the only ones; they have been very busy since they returned to Boulder. Since we moved here three years ago, we have tried every single Indian and Nepalese restaurant in Boulder. Yes, every single one. Nepal Cuisine is the best, with the friendliest proprietors. We also moved from the East Coast, eating at every Indian and Pakistani restaurant in DC. This is still the best. We have lived in Italy and France and traveled to over 30 other countries and dined at Indian restaurants in some of them for variety. This is still the best. Do yourself a favor. Come on down to south Boulder and Nepal Cuisine.

This is only the second Nepalese restaurant I've been to in my life (the first being Narayan's which is also in Boulder), but I've already chosen a favorite. Food: First off, they offer a dinner buffet. I don't know why this idea hasn't stuck with other joints that offer a lunch buffet, but it's pure genius. I loaded up on saag paneer, basmati rice, samosas, veggie pakora, tandori chicken, and several veggie curries( yelp.com/biz_photos/kJAi… ). My favorite item here stands out with it's bright yellow color. Mmmm curry cauliflower. You are the best. I have to say though, that the paneer wasn't really a favorite of mine. It was a little too watery. Also, some of the veggies in the curries are a little too bitter for me. Other than that, everything was perfect. I almost ate myself to death. Service: Here's the dish on this place. The main cook basically makes all the dishes in the buffet. I think her husband waits the tables. As such, the restaurant is pretty small and intimate. They really want to know if you're enjoying your food and are super courteous. On weekends they also occassionally host Nepalese cooking classes. If I could ever learn how to cook like that, I'd probably be obese in a matter of days. Atmosphere: I love the inside of this restaurant. Filled with hints of Buddhism, the small space is tucked out of sight in a low key strip mall. The only way you'll find it is if you already know what you're looking for. Once inside, you'll find the restaurant decorated in lots of cultural items. There's also a patio outside if curry smell isn't your thing. Synopsis: Will be back for more samosas, cauliflower, and maybe some cooking lessons.

Nepal Cuisine is the most wonderful restaurant. My family has been eating at Nepal Cuisine since they opened. Prior to that, we enjoyed their food at two prior restaurants around the Denver area. Ratna makes incredible food, totally consistent, with fresh produce purchased daily. Marchandra is the super host of this establishment. If you take the time to chat with them, they are the most gracious, wonderful couple. We drive regularly from Thornton to Boulder to enjoy the superb, delicious specialties at Nepal Cuisine. Even after enjoying the food for over 8 years, we still bring friends along to try this treasure. Personal favorites: momos, chicken curry, and chicken tandoori. Frankly, I've never tried rice pudding I've liked anywhere... except for here. The rice pudding is the bomb. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.

Can I review this place twice since I eat here all the time? Always the best buffet! Run by a beautiful Nepalese couple. My all time favorite restaurant ever.

Excellent spot for vegetarians and those who like to eat veggies (the coconut curry chicken is great too). It's very good food, nice atmosphere, and they have some very nice outside seating which I wouldn't have expected based on the front. The Coors banners out front are rather as misrepresentation too. This is is a great, family owned/operated restaurant. The food is roughly similar to Indian food, but you'll notice some differences. For example, the saag paneer is creamier and sweeter, the dhaal is more like a soup, and the rice has a somewhat wheaty flavor. Overall an excellent spot, particularly their lunch buffet. Highly recommdended daytime lunch spot. On a summer day, you can order the buffet, and sit out back sipping the iced-chai.

The food here was okay. I didn't think it was anything special -- seemed like normal, saucy Indian food. With all the hype, I was expecting something a little more.

I enjoyed finding this restaurant last week while traveling in Boulder. I had never eaten Nepalese (sp?) food before, and was eager to try it. Very similar to Indian food, but with some dishes distinctly different. I really enjoyed all the buffet items, especially the Chicken Curry. The Tandoori chicken was also very good, and I enjoyed the curried vegetables. The lentil soup was just so-so. Overall, I thought this was a very economical and delicious way to enjoy dinner. I'll definitely head back here the next time I'm in Boulder.

The buffet is so good and reasonably priced, too. Great selection of food, description printed on the label for some of the less common items, all the steam table food is hot rather than lukewarm, and everything is extremely tasty. This place is worth looking for. (It's kind of hidden, but it is there in the back.) The rice pudding is a great ending. Love this place!

Way way way way way way *way* way overdue review... All my photos were lost when my last phone got soaked, and apparently didn't store them on the memory card. I promise I'll get some more before the summer is over. But...the food in this place is *amazing*. I have had the lamb curry, mixed with just the right amount of aromatic spices, and the "chau chau" thrice now. What is chau chau? Probably spelled differently in other Nepalese eateries... but imagine lo mein, mixed with wonderful diced red bell peppers, shredded carrots, parsley (?) and the protein of your choice -- *now*, spice it up with Indian-style spices. If you want to get your noodle on and are burned out on Oriental stuff...give this a try. You'll turn into a junkie, just like I am now. I believe the prices on the chau chau range from $10-14 depending on what you order, and you can aldo get a combo (the $14) with many proteins mixed in. This place is also appetizer nirvana: their samosas are stunning, lightly-fried triangular pastry filled with a pea-potato-something mixture; and their pakora are like deep-fried waffle-fries...only with veggie sticks and grated veggies in. I have never been a huge fan of pakora before, having only dined on it from buffets where it was kept lukewarm in warning trays, been dry and brittle from sitting under heat lamps all day, or been a single vegetable. Not this stuff. I'm a junkie. Best of all? You can get both of these (2 samosas and a GENEROUS portion of veggie pakora) in an appetizer called "Krishma's Delight" (yes, -ma, not -NA. *shrug*). $7. *Amazing*. Comes with sauces and chutney, but I just dive right in, it's *so* good fresh. Now...I *did* think this place "walked on water" -- until recently. I wanted to order some take-out for lunch, which I have done before there on the weekends. The waitperson, someone who'd been there a month and a half (she later said), said "I don't think we can do that." I blinked and asked what the issue was, I had ordered take-out for lunch before on the weekends from the menu. She kept saying things on the order of "I don't think so" and "are you sure?" Yeah. Obviously I don't remember ordering take out here for lunch before...(rolls eyes) I finally got things straightened out when I talked to the daughter of Ratna, the chef and co-owner there -- the day I went was a week ago Monday. Monday is their vegan lunch buffet day. And that's *all* they do there Monday -- is vegan buffet. Given that they are hopping that day, they won't do any menu orders for lunch. Ok, fine, that's at *least* understandable; but it would have saved me a lot of irritation caused by someone telling me I didn't know what the funk I was talking about. They also appeared somewhat cautious about saying that they *would* prepare things from the menu for lunch for any other day -- apparently they just want to pimp that buffet. Which is fine, if you don't have other things to do that day, other places to be, or just want to gorge on buffet items -- don't get me wrong, it's a small selection but tasty. Just be aware you might have some issues ordering lunch to-go there. (Unless it's take home buffet items -- yes, you can order *those* in containers from the buffet items and take *them* home...) Still, the hospitality from the actual *family* members that work there, plus the stellar quality of the food, isn't enough to make me take that 5th star off. Nepal Cuisine has the shizzle that sizzles, and it's spiced ever so nice. Unable to find an online menu or website, sadly. If you are fortunate, you may come across some dollar-off coupons at the checkout area near the doorway. Their motto is "Do not worry, eat a curry!" Indeed so...namaste!

The buffet at Nepal Cuisine is great. There are a ton of options, and they are always being rotated and fresh. The only problem I have with the buffet is that I overeat there! Yesterday I ordered to go lamb saag and aloo gobi veggies. Great flavor, and I am excited to eat the leftovers for lunch! Good service, and they have a pretty good selection of Asian beers too! BTW, if you are vegan (which I am not, but hey more power to those of you who are!) check out the buffet on Mondays... All vegan!

Our party of 3 enjoyed the vegan buffet for lunch today. A bargain at $9.99! Really tasty and quite a variety of ALL VEGAN food. Some fresh fruit, condiments and a salad, along with 3 or 4 traditional Indian meals and brown rice, too. We will be going back often! Nice atmosphere. We ate outside. Friendly staff. I give 4.5 stars. :) Update 5/28/12 Had the buffet again, today. It was just as good as before, but I believe they offered the exact same foods that they offered last time, which was a little disappointing. (Variety is nice).

I go here every Monday (when i can) for their vegan buffet. the food is simple, tasty, and I eat so much that I can barely move afterward. The owners are very sweet, very smiley, and make my experience that much more enjoyable for me. I also love their Chai, which they offer with soy so that vegans can enjoy. I'm not the type to enjoy Chai with too much ginger, and their spicing is just perfect, and compliments the food well. I have never gone for their non-vegan menu, but I am sure it is delicious.

Wow! Truly amazing food. There is something different about the food here. It is delicious, perfectly spiced, and not super heavy. The lunch buffet is a great deal- easily the best buffet in the boulder area!

  • Sunshine J.

This place has very tasty Nepali food. It is similar to Indian food, just tiny differences. The food is always delicious and the owner is a very nice man. I wish that it was more of a restaurant feel because it seems like an old converted condo building. But that doesn't matter really because the food is awesome. I like to go there when I'm craving this kind of food because I know I'll be satisfied. I just wish that it opened sooner but it's like any other restaurant of its kind. Closing between lunch and dinner. :( I hope this business makes it because it is in an awkward location and is hard to spot. I recommend you go and give it a try! You will be pleased. It is only wheelchair accessible if you sit in the front of the restaurant (away from the buffet).

  • Ken K.

I used to live right near Nepal Cuisine and I *loved* it. I would go for lunch and enjoy a great buffet with the usual suspects food-wise, but much deeper flavors. For dinner, the garlic naan is better than any in Boulder. Great place.

  • Matt S.

Let's start with, "I'm not a buffet person, but I was willing to try". A coworker suggested an Indian lunch and I looked for a place that wasn't a buffet. Couldn't find one. Looked at yelp and saw that this place had a lot of good reviews. I understand it's not Indian, but it's in the vein and we agreed to try it. The owners(?) are friendly and competent and really good cooks. If they're not owners, they really know how to hire. Anyway, it's a pretty large buffet with lots of selections at lunch and it all looked and tasted very fresh. I'm not an expert, but the flavors weren't "muddy" or stale. I enjoyed everything I put on my plate except maybe the naan. It might not have been naan since it's not an Indian restaurant, but the soft bread was thinner than I expected just o.k.. Everything else was really nice or very good. I'd give this place 5 stars, but it's not really a five star restaurant unless you count the price. Buffet and Chai for ~ 10$. I've got a vegan friend and I'll be back on a Monday to try that, but I'm very happily surprised by this little restaurant.

Food rocks, chai enlightens, servers smile, and owners are the quintessential hosts. This is a family friendly place that I love. You will too.

Um...really? Such raves and awesome ratings? Given the Yelp hype for this place, I was surprised by how unimpressive it was. The food wasn't horrible, but it was just kind of...blah. Not really flavorful. This is probably the only time I've walked out of an Indian buffet (basically it was Indian food) and didn't feel bloated and full; I simply wasn't tempted to go back for seconds and thirds. That said, the only dish that I thought was really off was the saag paneer, which was more like a heavy spinach soup that tasted mostly of cream and very little of spinach. Everything else was just kind of unremarkable. For a dinner buffet price of $13.95--and a stellar rating on Yelp--I expected more. On the plus side, the ambiance and service were good. I'll try to hunt down a better Indian place in town, though.

Amazing! My husband and I love the dishes here. They are delicious and feel very wholesome/made with good vibes. My favorite is the Matar Paneer and my husband loves the Chicken Makhani.

I just don't get it. Wish I had something clever to add, but I don't have that either. It's not the worst food I've had, and I thought the ambiance was reasonably nice. But beyond that (and I'm not sure why), frankly I'd rather eat almost anywhere else.

One of the most pleasant surprises of Boulder! Recommended by a friend, we went here for a late lunch. The food is absolutely delicious, the staff is wonderful, and you just can't beat the prices. I had at least a bite of every single thing in the buffet (embarrassing.. possibly), and kept liking each bite more than the last. Definitely worth checking out!

  • Taramis D.

Best Nepalese buffet in Boulder! I absolutely love their version of the saag paneer, thier vegetable dishes, and their khier. Tasty, not crazy spicy (of course they have condiments for those of you who like it HOT), reasonable priced, and consistently good. Big faves in my book. This husband and wife team were formerly the cooks at Narayan's and are very sweet. They stated that about 95% of their former customers have found them at this new restaurant, which is a bit off the beaten path for Boulder eats. They also have VEGAN brunch on Mondays! Now that's what I would call 'Boulder' - in the best way. The repeat clientele speaks for itself - Nepal Cuisine hits all the marks! --- side note -- What I also find oddly exceptional to comparable restaurants, is that Nepal Cuisine keeps their food hot! As in temperature, not spicy! Why was I surprised by this, you ask? Well, when I discovered that Narayan's changed hands, I was devastated and went on to try out other popular Indian/Nepalese eateries. I visited two other separate restaurants with buffets at separate visits. To my horror I discovered that temperature of the food was not a priority, or someone just didn't order enough sternos for the week. Which resulted in lukewarm, congealed, greasy food. Euuccch!!!! You can imagine my joy when I found Nepal Cuisine and their tasty, and HOT food. Try other buffets at your peril.

Went there for lunch after a nice hike. They had a buffet table set up. It was not that impressive. They didn't have whole lot of selections. But, the food was pretty decent. The owner said they've been running it for 20 years or something like that. Wow...

This place is in the old Rudi's Restaurant space at Table Mesa/Tantra Drive. It's a great destination for Tantra Lake, Bridgewalk and South Creek locals to walk to - you can just follow your nose. There's a buffet available for lunch or dinner. It's cheaper at lunch and you get the same options. The owners are so sweet to every guest. They even do a vegan buffet one day per week. The atmosphere is laid-back and you can eat in the front room, dining room, or the loft room if you want a private space for up to 16 or so people Triple bonus: They were open Christmas Eve of 2007, so we had a neighborhood dinner there. Great choice for special events, birthdays, etc. The owner even made me a custom dish (malai kofta) that you usually can only get at Indian places like Tandoori.

So after reading reviews from other yelpers I thought I will give it a shot. I went for lunch buffet. I don't know if I should call it authentic but definately its less greasy. They don't even have bread or naan with the buffet. Food is not awesomely tasty but good. For $10 its a good deal. Give it a try.

I visited this restaurant for the first time last weekend, and I have to say I was very impressed! My husband and I have tried a handful of Indian/Nepalese/Tibetan restaurants recently, and this one was BY FAR my favourite. We had the lunch buffet and everything I tried was just incredible. I especially appreciated the fact that all of the entrees available in that day's buffet were listed on the board outside the entrance. I am vegetarian and like to know what will be available at a buffet before I commit to eating somewhere. I thought the food was much more flavourful here than at the other places we'd tried, and I really enjoyed the variety. The food was all clearly labeled at the buffet (which I greatly appreciated) and there were a good deal of vegetarian choices. I tried pretty much everything that didn't have meat in it and I was full after only one plate & 1/2 of my second. Once again I didn't even make it to the rice pudding! I had a chai with my meal and agree that it was very good. The gentleman who waited on us was so sweet and sincere, and very friendly and attentive. I have to guess that he is one of the owners but I could be wrong. My whole experience here was just awesome--I can't wait to go back! This is definitely a hidden treasure and I'm sorry I've missed all the years I could've been eating here! One note--they are closed between lunch & dinner, from 3-5.

I really enjoyed this place, the food is quite similar to Indian but just a bit different with the flavors. The dinner buffet had a good amount of choices and the menu was expansive. Overall nice atmosphere with delicious and flavorful food.

Had an excellent vegan buffet here!! Everything is replenished frequently and tastes very fresh. Nothing is too oily, which can be a problem in this type of cuisine. HIghly recommended! Thank you Yelp - I would never have found this place on my own.

I stopped in today to try the lunch buffet based solely on my fellow yelpers reviews. I have to agree, the food was great. I especially liked the Curry Chicken and the Saag. I really liked their version of chai as well. I will definitely be back.

Nepal Cuisine is truly my favorite restaurant anywhere. My husband and I used to live just down the street and would meet there for the Monday vegan lunch buffet every week. Mechandra and Ratna are so welcoming and kind, and as another reviewer mentioned, you can taste the love in Ratna's cooking. I love that she tries new things and that the dishes are not exactly the same from week to week. Seasonings are complex and dishes are not too salty or greasy. This is authentic, fresh, home-cooked food - like you were invited into someone's home for a special delicious meal. The veggie momo is the stuff of dreams. There's an occasional miss (I'm not a big fan of the vegan saag), but 99% of what is served is delicious. We moved out of Colorado last year and this restaurant (along with the mountains and the big open skies) is one of the things we miss the most.

I ate here for the first time today and it was sooo awesome! The food was amazing and extremely fresh and the staff was super great. Nepal cuisine is by far the best Nepalese food in the boulder area. My friends and I have been going here for over 2 years and the buffet is always consistently excellent. The hosts are friendly and introduce us to any new dishes. Perhaps most importantly, Nepal Cuisine has become such a part of our lives that we have even created a song about it touting it's greatness.

  • Jonathan B.

I was a little sad at how empty this place was (only us and one other couple) for dinner. The food was very enjoyable; the buffet was mostly fairly standard Indian dishes (aloo gobi, saag paneer, pappadam, etc) but either well executed or with a bit of a (presumably Nepalese) twist. No fault with the service (although indeed there were more staff than customers on site that night)

It was great to find a Boulder Indian/Nepalese restaurant that has a dinner buffet! This was very good Indian food - I think we have eaten at every Indian restaurant in Boulder & Longmont. This ranks almost as high as Passage to India in Longmont. We were married in India and love the food. Highly recommended.

Delicious! I'm not normally a buffet person but I think everytime we go to Nepal Cuisine, I eat about 95% of what is available. The flavors are so unique and exotic and blend so well together. It is hard not to over-induldge but at least it is relatively healthy food. The family that runs the restaurant is extremely friendly as well.

This is a small, family run restaurant. The husband/wife pair are adorable. She does the cooking, he walks the restaurant helping out the servers and greeting everyone. Their vegan lunch buffet is consistently amazing. One of my favorite restaurants ever, not just in Boulder but in comparison with places all over the country. You must try it!!

    (5)
  • David Z.

INCREDIBLE Nepalese food and the best buffet in Boulder! Their delicate and tasty balance of exotic spices is completely unique (and also addictive!). If you like Indian food, come here next! Furthermore, the ambiance of the restaurant is so peaceful and tranquil -- it's like restorative yoga simply dining here. The owners (who used to cook at Narayans by Foothills and Baseline) care so much and run this restaurant, finally their own, so well. The chai is also yummy as are the mango lassis and the rice and cardamom dessert. As if the food itself doesn't draw you in once a week on its own, it's also a great family business to support! Namaste.

  • Oskar H.

I used to live right near Nepal Cuisine and I *loved* it. I would go for lunch and enjoy a great buffet with the usual suspects food-wise, but much deeper flavors. For dinner, the garlic naan is better than any in Boulder. Great place.

I ate here for the first time today and it was sooo awesome! The food was amazing and extremely fresh and the staff was super great. The owner even came several times to chat, give us more rice, and gave us free rice pudding for desert! The prices were great and they had a hugeee vegetarian selection. I was very impressed!

Nice buffet and good atmosphere. Note that there are far more vegetarian options than meat dishes. Great staff, very friendly, just ask if you need something, and the good is always tasty.

Great job. They should feature more Nepalese (back menu pages) and less Indian stuff that Americans like and it would get even better. Wait I already gave it 5 stars.

Namaste.

Had the lunch buffet - excellent selection of dishes, hot dishes, fresh dishes, no gooey staleness found in some buffets. Their flavors were crisp and clean. The atmosphere is also very nice.
