    I. Love. This. Place. Its absolutely nothing fancy, but it's just the type of unassumingly awesome spot I'm so glad to have in my neighborhood. The deli part of the business is delicious, cheap, and fast. I always get the falafel (vegan if you ask for no tzatsiki, a request the owner always remembers when he sees me). It's a meal. It's delicious. It's $5. The baba ganouj is literally the best I've ever had. I brought my softball team here and they all thanked me. And then there's the grocery store! All kinds of Mideast specialities, but also interesting stuff from all over the world. Come browse, try something new. Buy the fresh baked stuff if it's here. Just come. It's a foodie paradise and I'll cry if it ever goes out of business.

Great flavors and food. Hummus is smooth and tasty, lots of tahini sauce in it. falafel is well balanced and not dense like a brick. Gyros are smothered with garlicy saucey goodness. one of the best gyros I've had in CO. Will be back!

I'm a fan. Tried this for the first time today, and it's pretty much what I look for in a place to eat. Tasty food. Weird things for sale. The babaghanoush is delish, and the lamb is good. Spanikopita was yummy (albeit crispier than I like). But I'll be back for sure. Really reasonable prices too.

Wow! Talk about authentic flavors. From the moment you walk in, your senses are tickled with sight, sound, smell and of course taste. I had the gyro combo and LOVED IT. This restaurant is 1 million times better than Pete's Gyros down in Denver. To top everything off, the owner and his daughter are extremely friendly. I will drive the 45 minutes from my house every time I'm craving Greek food. GOOD JOB to the owners.....

This place is such a lovely gem. Tucked away from the flashiness of 28th Street businesses, the family that runs this place makes amazing food and is so, so kind. I've only ever had their gyros and hummus but honestly, if those were the only things on their menu it'd still be worthwhile to check this place out..and at about $6 for a filling meal, you can't go wrong. Be warned though - they take their sweet time making your meal to perfection so expect to wait awhile when it's busy.

Best gyros in boulder!! This guy knows how it's done. I've been there 8 times now and I love every time I go! I've never been disappointed and the other things there are all good too! Try em all

Best place to get a wonderful Gyro, I haven't had anything else from this joint. The food is amazing they do not put a shortage of feta cheese on the Gyro with cucumbers on top, this has out shined any Gyro I've had this is a gem of Boulder.

  • Phil J.

Really good halal gyros for $5 or combo plate for $7 can't be beat. Good grocery selection of marinated and pickled veggies.

Its 4am, and I can't sleep because of what I ate last night. My wife and I split a falafel and a gyro from Mediterranean Market & Deli. I still taste it every time I swallow, and the burps just keep coming, but I can't puke. This is hell. My wife is in a milder but similar condition. And no, I haven't been drinking. This too shall pass, but I won't return to that weird dingy place with food that tastes pretty good, but leaves you suffering. And it will probably be a long time before I'm ever in the mood for falafel or gyro again. UPDATE 5am: Never been so happy to have vomited.

Never before have I felt so compelled to write a review on yelp, until today. Here is the review of a place that almost brought me to tears, tears of happiness and joy. The moment I bit into my falafel from the Mediterranean market and deli, I was nearly brought to tears. Everything was perfect, from the crispness of the falafel balls, to the cool crunch of the cucumbers and onions. This place is a hidden gem that deserves so much praise. I wish the owners much success and happiness, and to keep doing what they are doing! Ps. The market is awesome as well. I found freshly ground Allepo pepper. So awesome.

Delish! The food and service excellent do not let the appearance of a grocery store stop you! Definitely worth the stop!!

  • Brianne H.

Gyros are really delicious, definitely add feta and siracha. Yum! They really load up the meat and veggies on it too, really good bang for your buck. They get really busy during lunch time so I'd recommending calling and ordering ahead but everything else besides the wait time was great!

  • Kat C.

I stopped in here for a quick bite to eat. The ladies who worked there were fabulous and gave me hummus instead of tzatziki sauce because I'm on a no-milk/no milk dairy products kick for my acne. My gyro was delicious and made fast and well. I also very much liked all the Mediterranean specific foods they had in the market portion. I will definitely be back once I move to boulder to pick up some cooking supplies. Yum!

This is a market/deli sandwiched between Salvaggio's and a rug store; somehow we'd never even noticed it was there until a few weeks ago. My wife and I stopped in for lunch on Saturday. She had a gyro and I had the chicken kabob. The kabob was pretty good - plenty of tzatziki sauce on the side and some excellent rice with carrots and raisins. The woman working the counter was very friendly, coming out to ask us how everything was at the end of the meal. I'll definitely be going back for lunch soon, and I'm looking forward to doing a little shopping there next time I need ingredients for Mediterranean cuisine.

I was craving Mediterranean food, and I'm new to the area so I used Yelp to find some that was cheap, fast and nearby - this place came up and had good reviews. I think it was overall very good...I had a gyro, hummus and a drink for $7 which is nice! The gyro was delicious, but I think the hummus could have had more flavor (I'm very critical of hummus because I think my husband's homemade hummus is the best!) and the pita served with the hummus was a little dry. However, it was cheap, fast and good, so I would definitely go back! I also may go back to shop in the market because it looked like they had a lot of hard-to-find stuff for good prices.

  • Ali M.

If you search "Mediterranean" on Yelp this doesn't even make the first page- bummer! The Med Deli just moved to 30th and Bluff- just south of Dot's. The new space is bigger, cleaner, nicer, etc, but I worry because there is hardly ever anyone there and the food is SO GOOD! Best falafel, gyros, baklava, spanikopita in town. And super cheap combo meals.

    (5)
  • Justin M.

Fabulous falafel and gyros, great tabouli salad too. sooo delicious! Worth 30 min drive for us FOR SURE!! and very cool you can buy market stuff that's hard to find too. ;)

im a regular of this place and i love it. best gyros in boulder period.

  • Alejandro D.

I hate to be the lone dissenter, but I was dissapointed. I hate giving a place like this such a low rating because at first I thought it was EXACTLY what i was looking for. A hole in the wall places w/ bomb chicken shewarma. Well , maybe I'm spoiled but it just quite didnt cut it. The chicken shewarma is my litmus test for a good mediterranean place and they need to step it up quite a bit. Check out Shish Kabob Grill in Denver for a real treat

AMAZING GYRO AND FALAFEL Being a Chicago native, spoiled with an amazing Greek town, I've had a hard time finding a solid Mediterranean shop. The owner told us he makes all the falafel himself and we could definitely tell! Everything was so fresh and delicious and a great price. My friend had never had falafel or lamb she liked and she cleaned her plate too. We will definitely be returning!

  • Amy J.

Consistently amazing, well seasoned delicious food. This place is surprisingly placed in Boulder, like it's been dropped from a real city with real ethnic food into the suburbs of boulder. You won't be disappointed. Everything we've tried from this place is well done.

  • Kelvin D.

I love their Gyro sandwich. Large chunks of beef and lamb and plenty of tsaziki sauce. The baklava is scrumptious! The added convenience of ordering online through Eat24.com and paying with PayPal is great! The owner and staff are friendly and understand the importance of good customer service.

    (5)
  • Deborah H.

Best Mediterranean in town. The gyro was scrumptious, the hummus was smooth and flavorful. The baba ganoush was baba gone, loved the hint of smokey flavor. The market was full of Mediterranean fare. Definitely a new favorite.

  • Rob D.

Absolutely love this place. Been coming here for years now and it is always consistent and exactly what I want. Try the gyros and hummus, both are my favorites!

Really wanted to like this place. Love Mediterranean food and have been meaning to check this place out for ages. The most positive thing about this place is it's great value for money- especially in Boulder.Everything else sucks. The food and service are incredibly underwhelming. The guy at the service counter seemed more interested in the football game on tv and acted like I was interrupting him when I made my order. I asked for the veggie falafel. The pita was dry and tasted old, the falafal were overcooked, tasteless and dry. The feta portions were pretty mean, but ti was the tahina sauce which did it for me. It was so salty, unpleasant and almost fermented it tasted of cheap soy bean or canola oil. Never going back! You get a far better deal going to Natural Grocers and buying their whole wheat pita breads, tahina and falafel balls + organic goat's feta, lettuce/oinion/tomato and making your own for better value and way better taste!!!

  • Jessica W.

Holy cow this place was good. I got the vegetarian plate, which was loaded: tabouli, hummus, dolmas, falafel, baba ganoush, salad, and half a toasted pita. At $7 it was a screaming deal by Boulder's standards, and not half bad by anyone else's either. The market section is stocked with middle-eastern and a seemingly random selection of international items. Some time when I'm feeling brave I'll try the yogurt soda with a side of the sugar-coated chickpeas.

786 LOVE IT!!! This place was just amazing. Greeted warmly by the owner behind the grill we placed our order for our gyros and wandered the awesome store packed full of all kinds of goodies! For the breakfast lover - TRY THE SOUJOUK!!!!!! Amazing spicy, beef sausage - so delicious. They have a great assortment of spices and pickled stuff and rose water and sweets and drinks. Some great hard-to-find items. Lots of rice and oils and lentils. After about 7 minutes we were handed the goods and boy-oh-boy were they good! We could barely eat them they were so big and packed full of delicious meat and fresh veggies with feta cheese - MMMMmmmm I'm gettin' hungry just thinkin' about it. I'd recommend hittin' up some siracha on that bad boy. Top it off with some homemade dessert or some flaky baklava (or both) and you, my friend, are in business.

This is the real deal! Not anther Boulder poser.

I was in Boulder on whim, and after a hike started craving some falafel. We checked Yelp, and decided to check this place out. We were very pleased with the food! I got the falafel sandwich, while the falafel was honestly very, very flavorless, the hummus and feta had enough flavor for me to still find it absolutely delicious. My boyfriend got the gyro sandwich. The meat was perfect. It was flavorful, tender, and delicious. I was honestly jealous. This is a must try. Our wait was a little long, but there was only one person working and the food made up for it. It's also a very interesting little market to check out, while you're waiting for your food. Check it out!

Family run grocery store and eatery in Boulder, CO. Excellent home cooked food and very generous quantity as well. Had the plate#4, which had Baba Ghanouj, Hummus and Lamb Gyro.. everything was very tasty and the owner was very nice and friendly too. Only thing which I didn't like was the Backlava which was a bit too sweet for my liking.

    (4)
  • Stephanie H.

This was really authentic, fast and fresh. The falafel was very good and the market had some unique stuff. This was a great surprise! The owner seemed very genuine as well.

Great portions, delicious meal, and at an unbeatable price. The gentleman is very kind, as well.

  • Liz S.

Tried Mediterranean Market for the first time last night and it was incredible! I had a really tasty falafel sandwich, and the boyfriend had a veggie sampler. Both were incredible and came with so much food we couldn't finish. My falafel came with salad, hummus, and baba ganoush. Each entree was only $7 - a great deal for Boulder, especially for so much food. We finished our meal with baklava and it was quite possibly the best baklava I have ever had. Very flaky and not at all soggy, not too sweet. I will definitely make this a regular spot for lunch and dinner!

  • JeZippy E.

I've been going here for years for lunch and sometimes for dinner too. Maybe not the very best, but it's consistent, and for the price I get a generous portion. As far as dolmas go, these are the best I've found in Boulder. When I asked where they come from and the man said a woman in Denver makes them. These are NOT mushy, such as all the others I've had around town. I always ask for no tomatoes on my salads and never once has the guy mess up. I don't eat the pita bread (just not a fan of bread), and I usually tell him to skip it, but I always find it there anyway. I don't worry about it though. I just compost it. Usually it's the older man who helps me. Yes, he always seems a bit grumpy, and it would be nice if he smiled every now and then, but I'm used to him. He knows what I want when I come in... always the same thing pretty much. As for the groceries, I don't shop for anything here. I bought the frozen spanikopata once and realized it's not the same as what they serve in the deli. The baklava they sell is very good though, if you like it. I don't eat many sweet things either, but this was good. The falafal balls are a good size and tasty, though on occasions, a bit overcooked.

  • Guam D.

Food was dry and salad very salty, not my favorite Mediterranean restaurant. I came in at 7 for dinner and was the only one, was that the problem? I'm not coming back.

The food tasted fresh and delicious. One of the top places for Gyro in Boulder.

Delicious :) We had the gyro (delicious) and combo plate no. 5-- baba ganouSH, hummus, dolmas, and lebneh. Love it :)

  • Topher S.

Love this place. It's a perfect staple for a kid who grew up in a Jewish Mediterranean family like I did. Falafel and baba ganoush almost as down home as my grandad's. The tabouli is creamy and light, the prices are just what you'd expect from a market/deli (which is crazy difficult in Boulder). As someone who grew up in the kitchen with this food and around these kinds of markets since I could reach the counter, this is a great slice of home for me. Definitely recommend.

  • Ed V.

Totally unexepected. Best gyro and falafel in Boulder.

    (4)
  • Bryan M.

As a warning, the service can be almost glacial, but the good news is when its busy and you're eating in the restaurant they just tell you to sit and eat and you can pay later. Also, the gyros are worth the wait. Last time I was in with a few guys from work and she (the older woman working) started telling us what to order so we could all share... and brought a couple extra things to the table for us to try. Warm, old world style service and food. Like visiting a Greek grandmother's house.

great gyro sandwich, generous serving and excellent serive. well worth the trip off the beaten path. the deli si in a grocery store and while not your typical boulder eatery, i enjoyed the entire experinece

So it's not the cleanest place, but if that doesn't bother you (and it shouldn't) this is the best med food in Boulder. Get a veggie combo or falafel.

  • Ginger P.

I really like this place but something other people haven't mentioned is their catering. They catered a party for me and did an amazing job. Generous portions, dates thrown in, delicious food, great service on it. I picked it up, didn't get it delivered, and it came perfectly packaged and they helped me bring it out to the car. People mention the lame service but it's just the owner doing all the fresh prep. Give him a break, I say. He is not very friendly, though he is to me now, but you don't go there for that kind of service. The food is delicious. And the catering -- very reasonable (I got it for $6 a person, with a little bargaining). And delicious. I highly recommend it!

This business used to be located on Pearl Street next to Salvaggio's Deli, but sometime in late 2009 moved to their new location across from Dot's Diner. It's located in a row of Mexican shops, including a carniceria. It is 50-50 restaurant and marketplace. The light in the shop is good, and you can see the gals prepare your food. The gyros are really what you go there for, and I always make sure to pay the little extra and have them add feta cheese. They are large, fresh and tasty. My friend and I usually add in a side of olives and share them, since they give you plenty for two people. Their baklava is just okay, so I'd say skip it. The shop has lots of unusual items and it's fun to walk around and browse while waiting for your food. The food is consistent, the atmosphere is on the bland side. Definitely kid friendly.

  • Ran T.

We went there today for lunch. I don't know if it's because we used a coupon or the owner was not in a good mood, he was very rude to us. No hello, no what can I get you? When we had questions about the menu, he was hesitate to explain. I ordered the veggie combo and my bf ordered a regular gyro. Nothing seemed very fresh. It's not spoiled but just not as fresh as what Mediterranean food should be. The spinach in my spinach pie was crusty and seemed to be sitting out for many hours. The pita bread is hard and flavorless. The salad was barely seasoned. We also got a box of cookies from the grocery and it was stale. It doesn't not deserve to receive that many stars. Big disappointment.

    (1)
  • Loren O.

We went there today and it was amazing. We were not expecting much but definitely the best gyro in Boulder. They actually are fairly similar to the gyro cart that parks outside the bars.

    (5)
  • Graham G.

I enjoyed my first visit. Good food, nice guys. Bought the veggie combo. Highly recommend the dolmas and the hummus. Can't wait to try the gyros. Best dates I've had in a while. Hope to try the baklava soon.

Best gyro and falafel in town hands down. New location is off of bluff and 28th across the street from Dots.

  • Margaret A.

I've passed by Caspian Mediterranean Market a number of times on my way to Pearl St. and I finally decided to stop in. It's tucked in right next to Salvaggio's Italian Restaurant which is easier to spot if you're looking for it on the street. There is parking in the back and a back entrance so you don't need to go to the front. They do get upset with customers that park in the back and cut through the store to get into Salvaggio's, so beware. The store is small but filled with all types of Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and Eastern European prepared foods. This ranges from beans and spices, to marinated eggplant, stuffed grape leaves, and pickled cucumbers. They also have a variety of teas, baklava and turkish delights. If you are looking for a quick bite they offer a deli section with gyros and falafels. There are also a few tables where you can sit and eat. Based on the other reviews they apparently have the best gyros, but I wasn't impressed with the selection of their menu at all. I would have eaten something if anything caught my eye, but I didn't see anything I couldn't try anywhere else. I tried a couple of their stuffed grape leaves and they were the worst dolmas I have ever had, EVER. The ones from Whole Foods are a billion times better which surprised me since this is a Mediterranean market. They had no flavor and the rice inside was really hard, they were probably sitting for days. I would go back if I'm looking for some Middle Eastern goods, but definitely not to eat. I'm also a vegetarian so the highly recommended gyros just wouldn't do it for me. Hopefully you'll have better luck with the food than I.

Wow, so i finally tried a combo three, the salad topped with gyro, served with hummus, pita, and yogurt. Delicious! Nicely grilled meat, good salad, excellent pita, very good hummus. Will be back.

  • Wallace G.

This is one of those hole-in-the-wall restaurants that just happens to have outstanding food. So in this case, I'm going to say the same exact thing everyone else is saying... They have the best gryos in town. No comparison! I'm used to the Falafel King so I simply did not know any better ...until now. So much better than the chain restaurants. They're not super fast, but everything is fresh and good. The prices are great so it's perfect for lunch. I highly recommend it!

  • Krista A.

Best gyro in Boulder, hands down. The help there is always nice and hard-working. I dunno, I love this place. Just freaking go.

    (5)
  • Bob L.

Great pastrami sandwich, fresh cole slaw, pleasant staff. Yeah, it's a hole in the wall, but so what? Made me miss New York where I grew up. Go early or late for lunch, especially if you want to sit rather than take out. Now I have a simple reason to go Denver on a regular basis! (Being close to all the cultural stuff is a big plus, too!)

    (4)
  • Ty F.

The best gyros and baba gannouj in town! I also love their hummus. The market has a great selection of different types of tahini, nuts, pitas etc. Some of the stuff, I don't really know what it is, but I LOVE this place! Staff is helpful and friendly, prices are reasonable and the food is quite yummy! A must try!

    (5)
  • Cathy B.

The gyros and baklava are awesome!! They also sell sweet plantain chips, which I love.

    (4)
  • Ana S.

The staff is really friendly, the market has a great selection of hard-to-find international items, and the food was pretty good. I only had the dolmas & tzatziki, but they were tasty. My friend, who was visiting from out of town but used to live here and LOVED this place, said his gyro was a little bland and not as good as it used to be, but maybe he over-hyped it in his head. Not quite as good as my all-time favorite (Jerusalem in Denver) but it's probably the best place in Boulder for low-priced, decent quality "mediterranean" food.

    (4)
  • Jen T.

The Mediterranean Market & Deli still exists, but they moved up near 28th & Valmont on one of the side streets across from Dot's Diner. They have more space in the new location with a great selection of mediterranean food in cans, jars, etc. They still have the best gyros you can find, but now you have to work a little harder to find them.

    (4)
  • cindy w.

I went here because I turned over a vegan leaf for the new year and was looking for something without cheese. Based on the reviews, I knew I was going into a market, but really think this place is over rated. They're right, the guy serving the food was less than friendly, but it's a counter transaction, so no big deal. I had the tabbouleh, which was pretty good, but had an over abundance of parsley in it. I'm used to more grain than green in my tabbouleh, but the flavor was pretty good. However, $7 seemed a bit high for the serving size and the ambiance. The grape leaves were tasty. I cannot say I'll be going back here.

    (3)
  • Sam M.

This place has some bomb ass gyros. I gave it four stars instead of five only because they're not quite perfect. I'm a little spoiled when it comes to Greek food because I grew up in S.L.C., and for some reason S.L.C. has an abundance of really good Greek food. But still, this is the best gyro I've found around here.

  • Anne L.

The sign outside says "Mediterranean Market & Deli" and their business card says "Caspian Deli and Grocery," but whatever they call themselves, this place will surprise you. It is completely unpretentious -- has no atmosphere at all. You order your food at the counter and the Iranian ladies who run the place make it as soon as you ask for it. The ladies who run this place know how to cook some very good dishes. They make their falafel balls fresh and hot and top them with some kind of magic secret dressing/sauce that makes it jump off the plate and into your mouth. The tabouleh salad is fresh, authentic and flavorful. The gyros are good too. They have interesting beverages, like cherry-pomegranate juice and yogurt drinks. Food is extremely reasonably priced. You walk up to the counter and pick up your food saving a tip. Half the place is a grocery with Iranian spices, jams, honeys, teas, etc. Located next to Salvaggio's on Pearl. Parking in the rear. Definitely worth a stop.
