Went here last week for my lunch break (an hour). Walked in past the Now Hiring sign and now I know why. I was the first one in line and there was a man (believe to be the owner) taking orders and making subs and one girl also making subs. I mistakenly thought most of the people seated had already eaten - wrong. They call out your number that is on your receipt ticket. TIP: Call your order in! I did it all the time. You can order one sub too. This is in the King Soopers plaza on an end. There are some tables outside. There are two doors, only one of which is an entrance - remember which one you came in or you will feel like a tool....like I did. By the way, The Asian guy everyone refers to (I think the owner) isn't scary - he's busy and he is just getting orders taken. He is concentrating and getting it done. He isn't mean, just to the point. He didn't phase me. I would say that upon arrival shortly after 1pm, I probably waited easily 15 minutes or more (didn't really watch the clock). The "small" is $5.95 and is a decent 6" sub. Automatic toppings unless you specify are: Lettuce, tomato, onion, sprouts, spicy mustard, mayo, oil and vinegar, jalepenos and a slab of pickles. The bread is a nice heavy bread and all bread is run through a warmer (not a toaster) - adds a nice touch. Tuna is on the sweet side, not the tangy rank stuff you get at Subway. A bit "juicy", meaning a lot of mayo. Italian sub has great flavor meat wise but I had "everything" on it and think it would have been better without the mayo and mustard. Brownie - awesome, Carrot cake - cream cheese icing! Need I say more. I believe these are from an outside vendor - think it states that somewhere. Pasta salad - blech, tastes like a mix of oil and Splenda or some artifical sweetener - save your money. Potato salad - red potato, mayo and onion - perfectly satisfied, standard potato salad blend. Restroom - one room stall for the ladies - neat and clean. It is set away from the eating area but next to a pass through for the kitchen. None of the staff seems to dwell near that area though.

Decent. Food is good. Service is OK.

I've eaten here on several occasions and agree that the sandwiches are slightly above average. The toasting is what sets them apart from your standard Subway sandwhiches. I got lucky today and the Sandwhich Nazi's daughter took my order. I assume it's his daughter. Anyways, It made for a more pleasurable experience.

The sandwiches are okay, but I agree with the previous posters on 2 points. 1. You have to wait at least 10 minutes EVERY time you go in during lunch. 2. The owner is a very cranky person who yells at his staff right in front of customers. The 5th level of Dante's hell is working for this guy I imagine.

GREAT sandwiches. SLOW service. I don't know what else to say. If you want a great sandwich this is the place to go, and usually the people that actually make your sandwich pay a great deal of attention to your order and really go out of their way to get it right. But their process is not fast, and once there's even a little backlog, the whole process bogs down. If you need your sandwich in under half an hour, avoid the noon to 1 window entirely.

The Chicken salad, the chicken avocado, and the Italian are my favorite subs here. They remind me of potbelly's sandwiches. It's slightly pricier as compared to JJ's or subway (which is close by), a foot long tends to be $9, but it's stuffed and very filling. The wait can be long, I've experienced 30 minute waits with my friends, subway on the other hand rarely has a wait of longer than 5-7 mins. The Asian order-taker (owner?) is perfectly fine, I dunno what the other reviewers are whining about, you gotta be clear to him and he'll get you the perfect sandwich. Try going before noon to get quick service.

I got the veggie 1 sandwich, which was supposed to have marinated mushrooms, avocado, olives, basil pesto, and provolone on it and under it on the menu says choice of bread. I was charged extra for wheat bread from the very unfriendly not helpful man at the register. It barely had any mushrooms at all on it and no avocado, if there was avocado it was such a minute amount it got mixed in with the basil pesto. It tasted ok, definitely not worth what was paid for it! I go to school by here and have been trying the different places around, this was my first and last time here!

I don't see why this place gets a bad rap. The food is wonderful, and the place is nicely set up and clean. The signage is professionally done, too. The fellow running the place might have a bit of trouble getting some things across, but cut him some slack, English is his second language. I got here, ordered a meatball sub, and a huge soda (very reasonably priced). Got the food, sat down, and dove into sandwich heaven. The quality and taste of the meatballs was top-notch, the bread was tasty, and the sauce complemented everything really well. The portions were perfect for a moderately hungry person to eat in one sitting. In my experience, there was nothing wrong with the place. Keep in mind that practically every bad review is about service, and I found that if you are respectful and a bit patient, it's no problem.

The idiot who "runs" this place is a nightmare. Out of all salad at 2pm and then wouldn't let me get soup without buying a whole sandwich. Also took 15 mins for my friends lame sandwich to come up. Horrible place and will never recommend to anyone.

I will not be returning to this deli ever again. The owner is absolutely ridiculous and possibly insane. I ordered soup (which you get from a self serve station) I decided to get the chicken gumbo thinking there wasn't beef in it, since I don't eat beef. After I sat down and took a few bites I noticed that there was actually a ton of beef chunks in the soup. I asked the gal working behind the counter to please get me a new soup cup so I could get another selection. She said I needed to get it from the gentlemen up front. I showed her that the soup was still full and then tossed it away and went to get the new cup. The gentlemen started screaming at me if front of everyone in the deli, claiming I ate the soup and I was trying to scam him. It was extremely embarrassing, I couldn't even get a word in to explain to him what was going on. He just kept screaming. The gal in the back I spoke to didn't even help. Aside from this the food isn't that great and the service takes forever. I won't be returning obviously and I'm honestly appalled by the behavior from both these individuals. So yourself a favor and steer clear. You're better off at Deli Zone across the street.

DELICIOUS sandwiches stuffed to max capacity with fresh toppings... the addition of alfalfa adds a perfect extra crispy crunchy freshness. The husband and I ordered the chicken salad sandwich and the prime rib sandwich, both with everything on top, and we were both amazed at the quality of the ingredients! This place must be doing something right since they are able to stay in business with both Subway and Quizno's just around the corner... NOM tip: Definitely get all the fixings on top, then step back to be amazed as you watch them fold everything into one sandwich! The seemingly impossible... is possible...!!

  • Christopher F.

The owner tried to add an additional tip to my credit card receipt. He was unaware that the charge would go though to my phone immediately. I caught him and asked for my money back. Will never go back.

The sandwiches are better and cheaper than Snarf's. So good! The horseradish sauce for the Prime Rib is nice n spicy too. This place has been around a long time. I am sad that people are so mean about the owner. He is not cheery. But I don't go there to make friends with the owner. I go there for the delicious sandwiches. They place could be spruced up a bit, but Snarf's is no cleaner.

    (5)
  • Sam M.

I love the sandwiches, but the place needs a serious cleaning (do not go in the men's bathroom), also do not go there during the regular lunch hours 12-2pm... you will probably wait upwards of half-an-hour for your sandwich. Their sandwiches are similar to a Snarfs and it is pretty reasonably priced.

Ive been here two disappointing times now. Sadly this is the only deli near work so im stuck going here. The first time i got the chicken avocado sandwich. It was mediocre at best. The bread wasnt fresh and there was way too much lettuce on there. The second time i ordered the pastrami swiss sub. First off if youre gonna offer a pastrami sandwich you better have sauerkraut to go with it, which this place doesnt. The bread was better this time but they literally put 2 slices of pastrami on it and one slice of cheese. The sub looked pathetic and was definitely not worth $9 plus tax. Where im from (NYC) for $9 you get a half a pound of meat and cheese thats oozing all over. The guy that runs this place is obviously cheap as hell. Next time i think ill just stick to getting sandwiches at the King Sooper Deli. I bet i would get a lot more bang for the buck.

Being from the east coast (NYC area) i have very high expectations on a good sandwich. Bread was decent, service was average considering we were one of the only 2 people in there. I experienced the asian guy whom everyone is talking about in these reviews and he didn't seem that offensive or angry to me. Once again I am used to aggressive sandwich makers in the northeast US. I had the prime rib sandwich which was decent. I will try something different next time for sure. Will return!

Even as I sit miles and miles away from this sandwich mecca, there are days when all I crave are the AH-MAZING CHICKEN SALAD SANDWICHES. This is the reason behind the 5 stars... I know, most of you might be like "Ehhh.. what a boring sandwich", considering I could have chosen some kind of extravagant, meat filled, ooey gooey cheesy, heart-attack inducing sandwich. But noo.. I opt for the tender and succulent, beautiful white chicken meat that puts those faux franken-nuggets @ good ol' Mickey D's to shame. Although the chicken is pretty dang good, I like to dress up my sandwich a bit with some lettuce, tomato, mayo (BE WARNED, MAYO HATERS-- I mean I really doubt you'd order chicken salad if you *absolutely* despised mayo, but last time I got it with the sandwich, it was a bit much to say the least...), and those DELICIOUS (allegedly) IMPORTED PEPPERS. They kinda look like jalapenos, but I have no idea what they are-- the only thing I know is I want them in my mouth!! I think they truly make the sandwich, besides the bread which is crusty on the outside but nice and soft on the inside mmmmmm.... (FYI the peppers aren't hot, I swear!) This is partly the fact that they warm their sandwiches.. so yes, expect the wait. Especially between 11am-1pm. I ended up timing them for fun-- ordered around 12:30 and had my sandwich in about 20-25 mins. But if you LOVE chicken salad sandwiches (or like the idea of it), it is worth the wait!! I kid you not, my bf and I ordered 6 large chicken sandwiches to go. SIX!!! That ended up being pretty expensive for just some sandwiches, but we love these sandwiches. Seriously. I think he might even love them more than me.... Anyways-- I wish I could tell you about the other sandwiches, but at the Gunbarrel Deli, I am a monogamous kind of sandwich girl :) [additional obligatory comment about the asian guy]: As for the "scary asian sandwich nazi"-- IDK, I mean I'm asian. I know CO doesn't have as many asians as up here in WA, but I mean maybe we're just intense??

I go here all the time for sandwiches. VERY good. Everything. BUT, while the kitchen seems spic and span the place is very dirty. The blinds have dust caked on them, the tables are sticky, the bathroom disgusting and the front door covered with black hand prints. It just needs a solid professional cleaning. Again, the kitchen/food area looks spotless, so I keep going. But I don't sit underneath the blinds for fear dirt will fall in my sandwich. Please clean this place so I can recommend to others and change my review to 5-stars.

been going here for a few years, the Italian sandwich is hands down the top sandwich for me in all of Boulder (yes even above snarfs). The bread, meats, veggies all of it just comes together for a awesome lunch. a large italian a bag of chips and a drink is just under 11 bucks.

    (5)
  • Stephen P.

I had the cobb salad, which was decent, although it included a shockingly huge amount of chicken -- I'd have appreciated some more / higher-grade veggies instead. I'd say stick with the sandwiches. The chain sandwich assembly joints may have skewed our expectations of how quickly the food can be prepared, but the 20+ minute wait was pretty surprising. The prices are also a bit high. I really prefer supporting locally-owned, but this place doesn't give me a lot of reasons to...

I love the sandwiches here but I will also admit that the owner isn't the happiest of sandy makers. Of all the times, I've been there though, he's been pretty nice to me. I have witnessed a little bit o' tude towards others though. Back to the important stuff, the place does get VERY busy during lunch hours so the only times I'll ever go there is on a saturday afternoon. The bread they use is so delicious and my regular sub choices are the club and the prime rib. I'm not in Gunbarrel that often but when I am, I do make an effort to stop by. (If you're sensitive towards sandwich nazis, I'd pick a different place but if you really are just looking for a good sandwich, stop by!)

When I told colleagues that I was headed here to grab lunch, they warned me about "the Asian dude." I thought they were referring to a teriyaki sub or something, but they clarified that there's an Asian guy (perhaps the owner) who works there who is pretty intense. I went and, yeah, he's pretty terrifying. And my sandwich was just okay. I had expected something much tastier, but it was only adequate. Other Yelpers have done a fine job of describing the Asian dude, so I'll let their descriptions stand for mine. He's scary, and I felt really bad for the folks who work under him. In fact, that feeling of sympathy kinda wrecked my meal. I wanted to vault over the counter and maybe help out - anything to alleviate the stress they must be under. Anyway - the food is just okay and the environment is a little weird. Just don't go during lunch. You will wait forevz.

I love the sandwiches at this Deli. It's hard for me to find Deli's in the area that are any good, and I am willing to wait a few more minutes to get one. If you don't like Chinese people, and think everyone in America should speak English then you may have trouble with the owner. Personally, I think he's awesome. He's always been very nice to me, and even remembers what order I like to get. His english is pretty terrible, but he does his best to speak it. I try to support small business owners, and he definitely works to keep his business running. And again, I love the sandwiches.

Good sandwiches but the overall customer experience here is not a positive one. If you come during the lunch rush, expect a 15-25 minute wait on your sandwich with no numbers or names, you simply have to know which one is yours. The man who owns or manages this place is, like the previous reviewer so well put it, the Asian Soup Nazi. He usually has just one helper, and that helper changes about every 3 to 4 months. My husband asked if they could check the bread ingredients for dairy so the helper pulled out a box that once contained the bread. The owner went completely off the handle, yelling at the helper right in front of us. Not very refined, and we were quite embarrassed. As far as the food is concerned, I think the sandwiches are actually very good. The bread is toasted to crispness but not painfully hard on the outside, they don't overdo any of the ingredients, and the vegetables are fresh and flavorful. Definitely a step up from both Subway and Quizno's which have locations within a stone's throw from the front door. The quality of the sandwiches is definitely what keeps this place in business.

The sandwiches here are pretty good although you're greeted by the Asian Soup Nazi. For some reason, you have to order a bag of chips to get a drink with your sandwich...or something like that that makes your life more complicated. Once you get that part right though, no problem. I made the mistake of asking for a free cup of water with my sandwich when he made a sour face and pointed at the little sign on the counter that says you have to buy a bag of chips to get a drink. This is a good sandwich shop dictated by a very particular owner. I can deal with that as long as their sandwiches are good. It's kind of like Subway except you tell them ahead of time what you don't want. The bread is a little thicker and crispier too. Maybe I'll go buy a drink at the near by Burger King next time when I really don't want that bag of chips.
