Came to this place and ordered a spinach quiche for brunch while visiting Colorado. The food was pretty good, however, the staff seemed pissed off and unhappy to be there. :(

I bought two bratwurst. No bun, no sides. Two naked brats. They charged me $15.00. I'm never going back.

This place can be confusing. It is not obvious where to place your order and the staff comes across as nonchalant. Prices were a bit high too. Their pizza was ok, definitely not spectacular

Good enough but not memorable. It was very slow when I went in. I find the way you order the food then pay a bit odd. Well, more like how you have to ask "whats next". Like I said, the food was OK. I ordered a Turkey Cherry Compote sandwich. It appears I should have ordered the soups or the salad there from the other reviews. I may try it again if I am in the neighborhood.

Without question, Breadworks makes the very best breads in Boulder. Unfortunately, their hot cross buns are at the other end of the scale - probably the worst I've ever had.

Not a bad lunch place. My coworkers and I like to go there sometime for cup a soup or made to order salad. The breads are ok but tent to spoil very fast and the annoying thing is their slicer has only one setting, EXTRA THICK.

Went with the GF for lunch yesterday. She enjoys this place b/c it's a short walk from where she works and when she wants to splurge they have yummy salads. The place is expensive. I'm not convinced the price is worth it but lunch was decent. They have daily specials (we had an asparagus, sundried tomatoe and goat cheese stuffed chicken which was very good). They have a salad bar that does get expensive when you add toppings (unfortunately, they were out of the croutons which GF says are the best part). I guess the best part about the place is that they have anything you're in the mood for (salads, entrees, sandwiches, soups, sweets, coffee, ect.). Oh yeah, the best part of our meal was the olive bread. They earned that third star for that.

Brief food update: - chocolate gingerbread - really good, eat it heated up w/ glass of milk - made to order salads big - best quality ingredients in town and added generously - soups - still good - ciabatta & rustic breads - consistently good - turkey pot pie - still excellent, big, and satisfying - savory popovers - tasty & airy, but pricey - tiramisu not that great anymore - too sweet, balance off - sticky bun - just ok some workers still a bit grumpy, but visits overall have been ok; prices have inched up a bit further.

It is kind of like a porno... It looks great from the outside with the big pretty name and enticing entrance., but when you go inside (aka, turn on the porno) you are teased by a large variety of prepared options to suit all moods. You look at each item very closely and decide which looks best. When you pick your favorite you decide that you want to enjoy it in its entirety, so you convince yourself that the sandwich and soup are calling your name and go to town on the prepared food. All of a sudden, it is all over with and you just realized that you paid way too much for something that was only ok, and you are suddenly wishing that you just stuck to your old ways and stopped at Chili's for your usual Sloppy Joe. Ok, I think the innuendos have gone too far Miss Alex, so I will slap myself on the wrist and move on. Breadworks has a cool name, has yummy looking expensive breads, soups, sandwiches, and on command make-me-what-I-want-now items, but the items are only ok, and what you are really paying for is the presentation and the snazzy building. The best part of Breadworks is the outdoor seating and the scene on the weekends. Everyone in North Boulder comes down to this strip mall to hang out outside with their dogs... So, come to look like a Boulerite, to pet a lot of dogs, or to meet new friends. Just don't bring your laptop with your porno's. * Star one is for me, for comparing a restaurant to a porno ** Isn't that cute star two is for a cute location and fun architecture *** Praise the sun star three is for great outdoor seating

It used to be so much better, back when it was really a bread and bakery store. Now it is mostly a cafe. They do still have a few of the original recipe items, so I still stop by. But the experience of trying to buy a loaf of bread or piece of cake or a popover is just horrible. There is a pay counter at the coffee bar. To get a loaf of bread or muffin etc to go, you must wait through the coffee line to get a salesperson. And then often need to walk back to the bakery cases with them to show what you want and then back to the pay line. People trying to pay for takeout cafe items often just cut in, thinking they are the only ones not getting coffee. It's just a mess. The cafe food is OK. Cafeteria line style, pizza, soups, salads. Some items are better than others but the quality is variable day by day, a real lack of consistency. There is usually a cashier at the end of that line, but if you want the soups or salad to go, and need a dessert too, then you need to drag the whole selection back to that coffee line!

I love this place for many reasons. First, the bread is delicious. I prefer the 10 grain loaf, sliced please. It is so soft and not to dense, which is great for wheat bread. They also have a lovely bakery for all sorts of delicious confections! And if you want to have a casual, quality lunch with a friend they offer a cafeteria style lineup, which reminds me of Whole Foods, but less traffic and more personal. It is a Boulder classic and should be on your 'frequently visited' list!

If your name is Breadworks, you should excel at bread. Bought a variety of rolls that ended up being dry and borderline stale that same day. Had great expectations after looking through their website, but they definitely did not deliver. Very disappointing.

I finally ate here after driving by often and wondering what this place was. It's pretty big inside and has lots of seating. there is a cafe , bakery and small deli counter. I ordered a chicken soup and had to order my tea separately (I had to walk my tray to the cafe and order.pay there). There is a large selection of food and breads. The whole place smelled really good, too. My service wasn't crazy awesome, but it was 3pm on a Sunday so I figured they were all tired from the Brunch rush. Anyway, I would eat here again (not on a weekend, though).

A lot of people complain about this place, but I really enjoy it! Yes, the service is meh. Yes, they run out of things. But the positives outweigh the negatives for me: -sausage+onion pizza (I don't know how they get their onions to taste so good!) -mushroom pizza -mudpie cookies -soups. seriously, all of them. -some of their lunch entrees - had the chinese bbq pork today for example and it was incredible!!! -chocolate mousse pie And everything is made there, from scratch. And as you can see, the list above is pretty long. So might as well just deal with the annoying service and enjoy the tasty food.

Since I live nearby and work from home, I really want to like Breadworks since it has the potential to be a great lunch spot. Unfortunately, a combination of inconsistent service, lack of variety and food that has been sitting out too long makes it a miss for me. Going down the food line, you have the choice of some simple pannis/sandwiches, pizza (which has generally been sitting out for a while), daily special hot food trays (often good but also tend to sit out for a while), soup, salads and breads. The food that has been sitting out is usually served as is without being reheated, for better or worse. The salad bar, on the other hand, is somewhat of a bright spot with reasonable prices, a good variety and good dressing. Regardless of what you order, they will usually give you a piece of bread, though it's rationed out like you've been waiting in a long soviet bread line. The soups are usually a safe bet but they're generally pretty boring staples like chicken noodle. The service is somewhat of a low point. Regardless of when you're there, it always seems like there's no more than two people manning the stations and they always look surprised to see you waiting there. Breadworks also has a nickname that I won't repeat here for all the hot moms that come in during the afternoon hours after their yoga and spa treatments, if you're into that sort of thing.

Redemption! After a thought-provoking Dr. appointment this morning, I felt motivated to eat a big salad, and decided to give Breadworks another try. Hadn't been here since a rather dismal experience awhile back, documented in my prior review. And I am happy to report that my experience at Breadworks today was good. I first ordered a soy chai latte at the coffee/ice cream/bakery/dessert/gelato station. Smiley happy efficient service there, and the chai latte was perfect. I proceeded next to the soup station. There was a choice of 4 soups as usual, all homemade from scratch, and I chose the tomato basil tortellini. Whole grain bread from their bakery came with it. I also ordered a make-it-yourself salad, with spinach, grilled salmon, cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, cucumbers, carrots, hardboiled egg, and homemade croutons. All was excellent. Service was friendly and efficient and portions were generous at every station. Price for everything including tip was ~15 dollars. I have a huge leftover container which will be my dinner, too!

I've eaten here twice, and had non-memorable sandwiches. However, when pressed for time, their pre-made fresh turkey-pot pie is a lifesaver. There is a lot of turkey, the ingredients are fresh- get home and excite the molecules in your favorite fashion; and you are good to go. This beats the heck out of most quick and easy meals, and is priced fairly. It's always a hit when I bring a couple of these puppies home after a long day. The desserts are hit and miss; twice I've brought home chocolate tarts; and twice my wife couldn't wouldn't finish hers; soggy and mushy. They have similarly prepared lasagna, but I've not tried that. The ambiance is kind of weird, kind of like a tragically hip bus station cafeteria, and the waitstaff seems like they wish they were someplace else; but maybe that's because I'm usually there late in the day.

This was one of the only bread places in the entire County that could make bread properly at this altitude. All the other reviews are depressing to me, but the bread was as good as you could get at altitude.

Where to begin..? Recently, I walk into Breadworks & I don't know how to order. There is a bread case, a coffee bar, a sandwich order counter followed by soup & prepared dishes. After I realize that I am there for lunch, so I approach the sandwich "department." The menu offers a Reuben, but like most places there is no turkey Reuben. I figure they have turkey & the rest of the ingredients from the regular Reuben available to concoct a turkey iteration of the classic sandwich. Whoa, stop. Your boy is asking way to much for the young lady behind the counter. She reluctantly agrees, "I guess." The Reuben was offered on a panini and already I'm wondering who puts a Reuben on Focacia, but I'll try anything mostly. Besides, the sandwich is supposed to be pressed anyhow. I get the sandwich & there's no focacia, just some unnamed bread & it's way too greasy, as were the chips. Breadworks sucked that day, although I have had good experiences there in the past ordering soup. The weather was nice & the outside seating made for a pleasant setting that kind of reminds me of Fairfax CA, but in Boulder CO. I'll improve the rating IF I go back & IF I have a better experience next time.

I want to like Breadworks a lot. I mean, it looks very Boulder-y, it has lots of homemade stuff, and it's relatively tasty. The real downside is the price. I've gotten loaves and specialty baked items here a few times to use at home, but if I'm in the market for something special, I'd rather buy a $0.99 Udi's baguette at King Soopers... not spend $3.49 (or whatever it is now). I will say the handmade pretzels are worth every penny. Om nom nom. Their selection of hot and cold prepared foods seems to be awesome, but I can't say I've ever had anything other than a custom salad. My one real issue is the staff: they're just downright rude!! Even when there's a lull in the traffic, they always seem to be grumpy. I don't know if the person working the bread and pastry station was there at 3 am making the breads, but there is no reason to be snooty when I'm trying to figure out which stuff to buy or trying to make exact change. Also, I feel like I'm being judged if I don't put money in the tip jar. I'm sorry, but getting a bag and some deli paper to handle ONE loaf of bread does not merit a dollar tip.

Rolled into Boulder wi a mid-day appetite for something fresh and goodness. Needed to detox Las Vegas out of us. Frees coffee and pastries, homemade soups and build salads. Not a self service missing salad station, but a 'point and add' with a lot of fresh variety. Nice environment. Sandwiches to go.happy to return.

I can't comment on the other food, but the "Sweet Dreams" (chocolate chip) cookie is excellent, and my iced Americano was pretty good too.

Its a nice place to grab soup and and a sandwich if your on the north side of Boulder. The breads are excellent and the chicken noodle soup I had today was hearty, large pieces of vegetable and chicken. Its a self service lunch counter type setup with selections ranging from fresh breads, entrees, salads, soups and sweets. There is even a gelato counter. Its a little pricey for a daily lunch stop, the macaroni and cheese entree with soup and a baguette plus bottled water came to almost $15

I worked across the street from this place and I am telling you it is a money pit. I would go twice a week or move sometimes spending 10.00 a trip. I would indulge in the salad Nicoise that is delicious and filling. The soups are fab, I love, love, love them. Particularly Golden mushroom or the Tuscan Bread soup, two of my faves. The employees in the soup line will reluctantly give you a sample and I say reluctantly because they are really do not seem a bit happy about it. Do It anyway who cares. The bread is expensive but once you try the Kalamata olive bread you will know why. It is the same breadi that is used to make the roasted vegetable and goat cheese sandwich that I dream about sometimes, I always get a small container of the Lemon tarragon dressing to dip it in. If you get there early enough pop on over for a popover they sell out fast and after you try one you will know why. They are crisp and hot and just lovely plain or with some jam and butter. the scones with their robust coffee and every pastry I have tried it superb. No, the service is not cheerful or fast but I will excuse it due to the quality of the food. Other places just don't put the effort and care into there products like they do. So don't worry about me just keep up the good work!

I do really like this place since I love big salads and they have all of the toppings that I like. However, the past few times I've been I have found a dead fly in my lettuce...it's happened 3 times already. So now the thought of eating there again makes me kind of sick...Also they are super over priced.

Bread smells good but staff was unfriendly. Went in around 5pm. Place was empty but many of the tables were dirty. Asked about bread that I saw in the window. Staff was unwilling to go the window and see what I was referring too. Instead they insisted that they didn't sell that bread (without knowing what bread I was referring to) and tried to sell me what they had out on display, which looked dried and stale. I won't be returning there ever again.

I have been to Breadworks many times and each time I try something new. They have such a HUGE selection of pastries, breads, premade, and freshly cooked meals. The service has always been fast and friendly. Its a bit confusing your first time, because the place is so big and there isn't a super clear layout, but once you know your way around, it is easy and efficient. Great job Breadworks! And if you've never been, you've GOT to try their almond croissants!!

What has happened to you, Breadworks? Once you hosted special vegan feasts. Now I find not a single vegetarian soup for sale. Such a chilly day, perfect for a tasty soup...I had to go to Whole Paycheck.

This is the last time I get ripped OFF by Breadworks. I live in north Boulder so it's sometimes convenient but my last visit there for a bowl of soup resulted in being charged 8.50 for a bowl of soup. The older woman who is ALWAYS there couldn't even give me the correct change, or couldn't remember how much a bowl of soup was, or maybe was pocketing the extra money. I thought the prices had gone up. Should have gone back and questioned. Called and found out it was 6.16 after tax. Short, gray haired woman who has been there for years, thanks for ripping me and other people off! The bowl of soup was worth 8.50!

Location: good, ambient: causal good. Service: non existing. Prices: high. Place needs a manager to keep the place clean. Since there is no service not much cleaning is happening. Tables are often dirty and the whole place looks a mess. A pity, the place has potential.

Will start off by saying the food is good - I love the salads and the jalapeno cilantro hummus is worth the trip. The reason I am only giving 3 stars is that the service is awful. The staff are rude and inpatient. The attitude of the staff is not a one time thing, it is every time I go in. It is pricey - but I am willing to pay a little extra but word of caution, don't expect friendly or fast service

This was the most poorly organized food establishment I have encountered in a long time. Shocking for such an established business. The purchasing experience was completely non-intuitive for a first timer. I shouldn't have to struggle to figure out how to order a salad and then wait 10 minutes to pay. I also arrived at 12:30 and was told that one of the lunch entrees was sold out for the day. Sold out at 12:30? Pictured below, the utensil box was also filthy. This business is clearly poorly managed. The food was actually good, in particular the bread, but the overall experience was so frustrating that I'm unlikely to return. A few organizational tweaks and a major improvement could take place. From conversations with other frustrated eaters, I'm sure this place is losing repeat business.

I moved to the area a couple of months ago and several people told me to try Breadworks for lunch. I've been a few times now and have to say it didn't live up to the hype. Their soup was okay, but I can get soup and bread at the Spicy Pickle that's better and cheaper (and really close by). The service was snotty - each time. I got their portobella panini to go - it was DISGUSTING. Slimy mushroom, super dried out bread, and pathetic vegetables. Overall, this can be an okay place for a fast lunch, but I think there are much better options!

  • Nicholas S.

Awesome food. Salads, pastries, and bread are really great. They are expensive, but the quality is high. However, I find this one small detail annoying. When you eat there, you bus your own table and they ask customers to divide up plastic/glass/paper etc. Then, out back, they just throw everything in the same dumpster. They actually throw away in the regular trash what customers think they are recycling. That's dishonest and unethical. And given their emphasis on organic food and their "green" branding, it's also hypocritical.

Why does the bread from there mold after 2 days??? Every other bakery is fine, even wholepaycheck's. Its just odd. Sandwiches are disappointing at best, sometimes I wonder about boulder's taste, maybe anything is better than a protein bar to them, but seriously where are the pate a chou and vol au vents??

    (1)
  • Hannah S.

Really amazing baked goods but sadly the staff/service was really odd...they also have reduced priced day old bread which I'm sure is great for garlic bread or bread pudding, it still felt pretty soft so maybe even just as bread. I did enjoy the fact that they offered a free sample of one of their goodies, I tried the apple cake, I totally suggest it!!

I got some very decent pre-made sandwiches (Turkey club, Ham and Cheese) and first rate cappucino here. Spacious interior with plenty of seating, and seems to be an awesome place to go with groups, as aside from the plenty of space point, there is something for everyone. Soups, salads, sandwiches, pre-made in a cooler case to grab and go, good coffee, tea, pizza, pastries. Perhaps trying to please all the people all the time, but you know, there should be a few places like that around, where you can go for A-Ok -ness for the group, or grab a sandwich or salad on the fly. I'd go again to grab some lunch on the way up to Rocky Mountain National park. . .next time I'm in Boulder.

  • Ron B.

The food is alright, some items are pretty good. However, the staff is awful, I agree with some of the other posters. And here is why: - the pizza has a huge crust on some sides, literally 3" while the other side looks perfect. So if you ask to get a slice from the other side so that your pizza doesn't just consist of crust, they give you a pissy look. Had this happen more than once. - they want you to pay them a tip. But they don't do anything to earn it. I have to go get my own food and carry it to the register, why should they get a tip? They don't do anything other than stand there at the register or stand there hand your warm food. - they don't clean when it is slow. You see dirty (like the previous poster with the silverware container) things everywhere, especially the floor and the tables never get cleaned during the day. You go anywhere else and employees clean throughout the day. Breadworks is very expensive. Don't be surprised to pay over $20 for a small sandwich, two tiny couple of slices of pizza and a coffee. The bread is pretty decent, which is why I am giving it two stars and not just one. And now if I am on that side of town I go by there and buy bread a couple of times a year. But I certainly don't buy anything else there anymore.

  • Ka T.

i would have to agree with some of the other reviews, the place seemed unorganized. The staff seemed friendly other then the big boss people in the back starring you down as if you shouldn't be there. The atmosphere itself was great though. My food itself left more to be desired. I initially ordered my food and the lady tells me she is out of chicken, but then fulls out an already pre-made sandwich and says i can take the chicken out of this sandwich if that's ok?? I appreciate the problem solving so i went with it. Sandwich turn out good...not great but the Chips were horrible and stale....i think they buy a big huge bag chips and separate them out into portions. Well they failed to remember as the day goes on the chips get stale. Ill have to pass on this place next time if i come through Boulder again.

I would not even give this worn out, old Boulder bakery 1 star, if it were possible. The last 2 times we have eaten here, including this Sunday morning, the food has been worse than mediocre. When we asked to have our child's cold, underdone pancakes re-made, we were blown off by management. We will never come back here.

    (1)
  • Ty F.

I stopped in for the first time to buy some items from the bakery. The selection isn't huge, but their desserts and bakery items looked wonderful. I was a little undecided (it was my first time here) and the clerk behind the counter was impatient, unsmiling and seemed put out by my indecision (it took me about 30 seconds total to make my decision and there was no one in line behind me). While the baked goods were well-made (the carrot cake was FAB), I don't need attitude and that is why I rated this place 2 stars. Why frequent a place where you are going to get attitude? I didn't try the cafe, but it seemed relatively popular in a crumbs-on-the-table, too-busy-to-clean-up after dinner rush sort of way although there weren't many people dining while I was there. UPDATE: I went in to Breadworks recently (March 2011) and was greeted by a smiling, helpful and patient cashier with red hair. FINALLY they are hiring people who know customer service! I will be back.

The thing about Breadworks is that the concept is great, but not well executed. But there is no other place like it in Boulder. The food is fresh and the recipes for soups, sandwiches, and entrees are delish. But the service is bad (surly, inconsistent serving sizes depending on who you get) and they run out of their most popular stuff early almost every day. But, there is no competition of you want a non-chain restaurant soup/salad option. So if you are willing to put up with the attitude, and never knowing if your bowl of soup will b as big as your partner's, then the food tastes great.

Lunch - Not spectacular and somewhat over priced. Some good choices but, again, not of great quality. To many other better choices in area. Bread - Some is quite good, all is expensive. Make sure you pick your own loaf. They are not above bagging a burnt loaf and the register is just far enough away you can't tell from there. We opened a bag at home and found a nasty supprise.

I used to come have lunch here all the time. I stopped by here last Sunday to check out pastries/desserts after walking around Boulder all day. And this place hasn't changed. it's a BIT on the pricey side, but offers home-made tasting soups, salads, and excellent baked goods. I went home and devoured my savory popover for a late night snack. It was still crispy/crunchy but not stale. I can't wait to come back to try more pastries!

Just ok. My panini was small (turkey with a cherry compote and cream cheese on focaccia that was not hot/grilled; this was under "paninis" but apparently not toasted) and tasty, but not special. For $9, you get this sandwich, a small bag of chips and a pickle. This serving size seems to be normal in Boulder, where I'm visiting friends, but for a 6'1" guy who likes to eat, this is literally an appetizer. My wife got one of the quiche items and thought that was pretty good.

I was VERY less than inpressed with the "corn chowder" which was canned whole kernnel corn, over cooked edamame and a bland broth. Gross. Also the pizza was greasy, yucky and way over priced. its incredibly confusing for a new customer to figure out how and where to order and don't expect any help from an employee, cuz they're all too cool for school. Yuppy-ville. No thanks.

$2.65 for an almond croissant? It better be darn good! It was big, I give it that. But that's where the compliments end. The almond paste inside was sparse and bland. The layers were dry. If this is an indication of the quality of their pastries, I recommend skipping them.

Any place that uses an ingredient like V8 juice in their soups can't be very serious about making good food. Aside from a few things that are basically edible - their salads and some of their breads - this place is another example of people willing to eat mediocre food if it's served quickly at lunch. The only thing truly worth coming here for is their gelato - one of the best in Colorado - and the only reason I gave any stars at all for this place.

went here a few times for chai. then wanted to check and see if their lunch and other food fare was worth trying too but was taken aback at how pricey it was. so... uh, I've only ventured on the chai tip - 'cause Ideal Market is close by and has similar if not better organic fare at a lower price (if you can imagine). anywhoo.. not a bad place though. and maybe I'll have enough gumption to try their baked goods at a future visit.

I really wish I liked this place more - it seems virtually designed for my eating. They make lots of varieties of bread of course, which are mostly quite good. But it seems like they're becoming more interested in a prepared lunch place. Pizzas, salads, sandwiches, quiches, and the like can be bought from a refrigerator or made to order. Unfortunately, the pizzas and quiches I've had are downright bad, and the pre-made sandwiches are nothing to get excited about. On top of that, it's quite pricey. It would be worth it if the quality matched the appearance, but it comes out lacking.

My disdain of Boulder has really limited me. This is good and bad. Good because even though I may miss out on some pretty amazing eatin', I don't have to deal with Boulder. Bad because, well, I'm missing out on so many culinary options. I was jonesing HARD for a salad today. The kind of salad that is chock full o' yummy morsels in every bite. Field greens. A light, olive oil based dressing. Maybe some kalamatas. Capers. Tuna.... In NOBO (that's North Boulder to you) for a dr's appointment, I remembered Breadworks was nearby. J'adore the idea of creating my own salad! I must warn you- it does get pricey when you start adding on the ingredients- @9 bucks for my salad, but I did get exactly what I wanted (Heeelllooo Dr. Atkins- ha!)- capers, tuna, gorgonzola, massive veggies... it totally satisfied my salad craving. Sadly, it wasn't my "cheat day" (Saturdays, for those in the know) so I had to pass on any bread or pastries, but I will happily hit up Breadworks if my salad craving returns AND if I'm in Boulder any ole day!

Excellent baked goods. The bread, muffins, scones and croissants are all amazingly good and well priced. A great find while on vacation.

After a field trip to this bakery/deli for my pastry program at JWU, I fell in love with Boulder and Breadworks. The process used to create the artisans breads here is AMAZING! Pastries were fantastic, once again, a chocolate croissant that is particularly delectable! Great coffee and sandwiches also. Try the Cranberry Semolina bread, it is truly fantastic, and they also use it to make the Turkey sandwhich they have in their cold case, which I loved so much I decided to stop in before one of my trips to WY to pick one up for my mom. Breadworks has become a staple stop every time I am in Boulder, and sometimes it is the entire reason for my trip :)

I'm big on bakeries so I was very very disappointed in this place. I so so wanted to like this place. I tried very hard to find good things about it but ended up finding almost nothing good about this place. First of all, eating my lunch there was an unpleasant experience because (I don't know if it's always like this.. but) I was too busy warding off the flies while I ate. Breadworks looks a lot better from outside than inside. This was my first time here so I don't know if it's always like this but service was non-existent. I was waiting by the paninis for 5 minutes before someone showed up to help me. Since there was no one behind the counter for most of the time, I was confused as to how this place worked. I was like... is there a bell I'm supposed to ring.. or should I jump behind the counter and grab the food myself...? I got the Portabella Panini and the Gazpacho for soup. There was some ciabatta bread that came with the soup too. I paid about $12 for that including tax. I sat down and was ready to get excited over the food (despite the horrible service) and my moment was extremely anticlimactic. Wah.. wah.. wa~h.... First of all, I should have known better than to order a panini that has been sitting on a hot surface having been pre-grilled. The bread was so dry and horrible, I ended up not eating the edges of the panini bread although that part is usually my favorite crispy part. After being underwhelmed by the panini I was willing to give the place another chance with the Gazpacho. It was another Wah.. wah.. wa~h... moment. I'm used to the pureed type Gazpacho but I've had good ones with chopped vegetables too. I was expecting to like this one but it tasted more like salsa soup. The flavoring wasn't original or good in any way. I ended up not even finishing my soup. I was ready to give this place another chance by ordering a pastry or two but once I looked at the presentation, I almost already knew that it was going to taste average so I didn't go for it. There's something amateur about this place. Like they're trying to be fancy when they're not capable. I think that they're wasting a lot of space at this bakery. I've had amazing bread and pastries at places a quarter of this size. It's like, they're trying to look good when they're not. If they're going to utilize this space, bake more stuff! Fill this place up with yummier, fresher and more variety of stuff! Come on! You can do it! They're plaques of "Best Bakery in Town" and "Gold" for something looks like it's all for show. I almost wished that they didn't put any of it up and proved it with their food. If this place is the best bakery in Boulder as the plaque says, I'm gonna have to search outside of this city to find a decent one. This place gets 2 stars because they have slightly better bread than your pretty decent supermarket.

First ...I got deathly ill from eating a sandwich here, spent three days missing work hovering over the toilet. When i spoke to the head chef directly, she took it as a personal insult that i would even suggest her food made me sick. Secondly, a quart of soup for $11.49? I can get better soup at safeway for $4.99 a quart. As convenient as this place is, I can no longer bring myself to eat here due to the severely over inflated prices and the risk of getting ill. All in all, too many bad experiences will keep me from eating here ever again. And this is not hearsay!

We absolutely love love this place. The food is homemade comfort food. Let me give you a bit of a tour. As you walk into this place they have shelves full of freshly baked bread. When you keep moving forward you get to their freshly made meals that you can order but if you continue to move forward you get to the homemade soups and you can have a custom made salad. You pick what you want and how you want it. You can eat there or have it to go. Just don't get there too late in the day because when the food selection gets low that is all they have. So the theory "better late than never" is not preferred here if you want a full selection from that days menu as it goes fast. If I can only get there later in the lunch hours then i just get soup and/or salad they always have that. Don't forget the fresh soups, desserts and more to take home for later.

I'm sitting at the front window at noon on a Friday. Between the bread slicer, espresso machine, lunch crowd, and overhead music, I can barely hear myself think. Food is tasty but pricey. Staff is inattentive and I doubt I'll be back.

No thanks.

The ambiance is kind of weird, kind of like a tragically hip bus station cafeteria, and the waitstaff seems like they wish they were someplace else; but maybe that's because I'm usually there late in the day.

i would have to agree with some of the other reviews, the place seemed unorganized.

Not a bad lunch place. My coworkers and I like to go there sometime for cup a soup or made to order salad. The breads are ok but tent to spoil very fast and the annoying thing is their slicer has only one setting, EXTRA THICK.

$2.65 for an almond croissant? It better be darn good! It was big, I give it that. But that's where the compliments end. The almond paste inside was sparse and bland. The layers were dry. If this is an indication of the quality of their pastries, I recommend skipping them.

And this is not hearsay!

this place should be so much better. it is just way too full of itself. the bread is decent-for Colorado. nothing really stands out as awesome-except i am a big fan of the gelato there. I took my young kiddos in there the other day and we could not decide what we wanted to get so we asked to try one. first of all-we all had to try the SAME one-as in-we only get one little taste. OK fine-but what realty pissed me off was when I asked to taste another flavor-I was told "we can only give out one sample per customer". Hello. It is a teeny tiny spoon. I thought the girl behind the counter was joking. nope. I have never ever been to a place that said you only get to try one flavor. I would have walked out the door, but I had my kids with me. that would not have gone over well. the gelato is expensive and i sure do want to make sure that we ALL like what we are getting. and guess what-my youngest did not like his. figures. the service is snobby at times-the behind the counter scene is confusing. who helps who where? there were many confused people there. Note to the owners: just because you are big and somewhat pretty, does not mean your "all that". I am not sure why they always win best bakery. oh wait-yes I do know....it is because we do not really have much choice in Boulder and half of the people who live in this town do not know any better. Man I really miss The Daily Bread.

No thanks.

I do really like this place since I love big salads and they have all of the toppings that I like.

Best Chicken Noodle Soup in Boulder! I really enjoyed the blend of spices and flavored vegetables.

Any place that uses an ingredient like V8 juice in their soups can't be very serious about making good food. Aside from a few things that are basically edible - their salads and some of their breads - this place is another example of people willing to eat mediocre food if it's served quickly at lunch. The only thing truly worth coming here for is their gelato - one of the best in Colorado - and the only reason I gave any stars at all for this place.

Came to this place and ordered a spinach quiche for brunch while visiting Colorado. The food was pretty good, however, the staff seemed pissed off and unhappy to be there. :(

The ambiance is kind of weird, kind of like a tragically hip bus station cafeteria, and the waitstaff seems like they wish they were someplace else; but maybe that's because I'm usually there late in the day.

i would have to agree with some of the other reviews, the place seemed unorganized.

We will never come back here.

went here a few times for chai. then wanted to check and see if their lunch and other food fare was worth trying too but was taken aback at how pricey it was. so... uh, I've only ventured on the chai tip - 'cause Ideal Market is close by and has similar if not better organic fare at a lower price (if you can imagine). anywhoo.. not a bad place though. and maybe I'll have enough gumption to try their baked goods at a future visit.

I can't comment on the other food, but the "Sweet Dreams" (chocolate chip) cookie is excellent, and my iced Americano was pretty good too.

And this is not hearsay!

this place should be so much better. it is just way too full of itself. the bread is decent-for Colorado. nothing really stands out as awesome-except i am a big fan of the gelato there.

$2.65 for an almond croissant? It better be darn good! It was big, I give it that. But that's where the compliments end. The almond paste inside was sparse and bland. The layers were dry. If this is an indication of the quality of their pastries, I recommend skipping them.
