4 (maybe 5) stars for the food, 1 star for the restaurant/decor. If you didn't have a good reason (like a recommendation for the best Chinese food in Colorado), you would not intentionally go there. That said, we're talking about the best Chinese in Colorado. The Lo Mein is made with wonderful fresh noodles, and has that smokey/sweet flavor that you only occasionally find. Soups are terrific (between us we ordered egg drop, wonton, and sweet/sour). Other entrees were fresh and super-tasty, each dish we've tried there has been excellent. No unusual dishes, all the "standards" ... but prepared far better than any other place we've eaten in Colorado. Reminded us very much of some of the wonderful dishes we've had in NY Chinatown.... Worth the drive to visit, and what the heck -- Berthoud is a real Colorado farming community worth a visit anyway! Finally --- we don't usually try to economize on eating out...food is a major priority, right?! Family of four ate for $40. Dinner. $40. Since when do you ever get good food at that price?

A Hidden Gem! The Food is Good, Not Fantastic, But real good. I eat here for Lunch at least once a week. Its a no Brainer, you get good food, and alot of it for the lunch special of $5.95, which includes soup and an Egg Roll. The lunch entree portion is large also. You can't go wrong. If you are looking for Decor, or want to be seen dining here, Go somewhere else. If you want good food at a great price with good prtion size, Don't pass by here. P.S. Try the Ginger Beef

Great portions... If I made this review two years ago, it'd be five stars, but the food quality has gone down severely since then. I don't know what happened, but when I moved back to Berthoud, the food just tasted so much worse. Recipes changed, they got cheaper, SOMETHING. The portions for dinner are the only thing giving it better. Please, New China Chan, whatever you did? Reverse it! We used to LOVE going to you!

I have eaten cheap Chinese food all over the south, midwest, and the Rocky Mountains. This is, hands down, the worst I've ever had. The chicken was tough (as if it were dry aged), beef was gamey, vegetables obviously emptied from a frozen food bag, and the egg rolls were doughy. If you want this style of food and live in Berthoud, then drive to Loveland or Longmont. There are better options in both cities.

We have used this restaurant several times but I have to be honest, we will not be going back, The inside is dirty and outdated. The food is all frozen I found out and nothing is fresh. I got sick last time and will not be going back.

I have to reiterate what someone else said; you get good food, a lot of it, for a great price very quickly, from very friendly staff members. We love eating here!

Don't let the ambiance throw you off. This is a great place to get your Chinese favorites like Black Pepper Chicken, Shrimp with Garlic Sauce, and Lo Mein. You can pick it up or eat in the restaurant. The service is friendly and professional, though not terribly talkative, so don't go expecting witty repartee. But the food is tasty, hot, and comes right out. Our family eats there at least once a week and we never get tired of it. Personally, I'd steer away from the Sesame Chicken. It's a unique taste that's not as sweet as what I'm used to. But the rest of the fare is tasty, hot, and fresh.

YES!! Who knew one could find such great cheap chinese... and right in my own backyard. I had the combo lomein and it did not dissapoint. Then on a second trip I got sweet and sour chicken so my wife could try it. SHE LOVED IT AND SHE HATES CHINESE!! My life is much better now for having moved to Berthoud and finding the New China Chan. Both of my orders were take out but I plan on eating in the restaurant some time soon. It's inside an old house so the dining room is really weird but I kind of like it. The ONLY downside is that they seem to keep weird hours. Sometimes open for lunch, sometimes not. Could just be me though since I'm rarely around Berthoud for lunch. I think their posted hours say that they are open every day except sunday for lunch and dinner.

4.5 Stars, the atmosphere leaves a little to be desired, and I've had Asian food that was slightly better, but it's local, good, and the price can't be beat! I will be back!

After reading the reviews I decided to take my family to try it out as we live pretty close and usually spend our time driving quite a ways for a good meal. We started off with the Pu Pu Platter and a couple different cups of soup to get a sampling of the appetizer menu. Everything was good, with the standout being the wings which very tasty if a bit over done to my taste. The hot and sour was delicious, but be prepared for a different type of soup than you've likely had before. The way it was prepared was new to me but I really did enjoy it. The Won-Ton soup was standard fare and of good quality and taste. As main dishes we decided to go with the Mu shu Chicken and the Kung Pao Beef. The Mu shu was fabulous, the veg was still crisp and delicious the chicken was tasty and seemed very lean. As a bonus it was served already rolled but with the plum sauce on the side. The Kung Pao beef on the other hand was not what I have come to expect in this dish. It was prepared well.. the meat was lean, and tender veg was cooked just right.. but the sauce was too watery for my liking and the whole dish has an overly vinegary flavor that just didn't do it for me. As for the restaurant itself... just.. don't.. go.. in.. We decided to risk it despite the warnings but wound up regretting it. The whole of the dinning room reminded me of the smell of the kitchens of the restaurants i worked in growing up and the temperature was about the same as those kitchens as well... hot, humid... not the kind of place to enjoy a relaxing meal. My wife's only comment after leaving, having taken our toddler to the washroom to get cleaned up, was.. "never eating there again". Apparently the restroom was dirty... not untidy... but grimy, greasy, etc. All in all the food was prepared with above average ingredients and cooked to my liking even if one of the dishes didn't appeal to my palate but the eat in dinning experience is certainly one to be skipped if at all possible.

3.5 stars. There was nothing that I had against China Chan restaurant I just have been to places where I was more impressed with the food. THAT is not to say that what I had was bad. It was actually pretty good. I had Pepper Chicken and thought that the spices were combined fairly well. Nothing really to complain about really, the service was pretty good (especially since I was the only one there) and the host was nice and friendly. If you need to eat in Berthoud this place is just fine. I just am more impressed with the Asian restaurants in Longmont and Fort Collins. They are just more memorable. No disrespect intended... just being honest in regards to my tastes. It's all subjective, y'see.

We were reluctant to try this restaurant because it lacked curb appeal, and we rarely saw a car on its lot. However, after checking the Laramie County restaurant inspection score, we decided to give it a chance. We arrived at 12:20 pm and were the only patrons. The lady that seated us was pleasant. We briefly looked over the menu and made our selection. We could hear the chef rattling pots and pans, and received our first course quickly. The entree was timed perfectly and the food was not bad.....a step up from Panda Express and several steps down from Chang's. The quantity was generous and food temp was hot. Now.....the reason we will not be going back....the place was filthy. The chairs were dirty. The mini-blinds were covered in dirt , the baseboards around the room had never been cleaned (apparently), the stark lightbulbs were unattractive. Corners in the vestibule were dirty with trash. Windows were also filthy. Skylights had mini blinds on them with wands hanging down.....the blinds were open allowing one to see what appeared to be cardboard blocking the sunlight. We had a dead fly to stare at on our window sill next to our table. Water damage was evident in the "added on" room we were in. All in all, if the owner would just CLEAN and paint, we THINK he could make a living there. I have been to China, and I have to say that the Chinese culture is much different from ours, especially when it comes to cleanliness . However, the owner is obviously keeping the food and cooking area reasonably clean or he wouldn't have gotten good inspections. We truly hope the owner reads ths review and takes heed. If he cleans up, he needs to somehow alert the public, so folks will come back.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
