Hands down, the best Mexican food in all of Colorado! The food was fresh and delicious. The service was excellent! Omar from Ritz-Carlton in Aspen referred us to El Korita and it was the best food recommendation we had during our entire trip!

Had chicken enchiladas and they were very bland. Guac was great.

The Seafood Coconut or Mocajente? That's always the debate going on in my chef head. Go for the oysters, they're best in the valley! Especially the 'stuffed oysters' which are ceviche in the special red el korita sauce on oysters . The bloody beer is phenomenal too. Through the years the service is getting faster and more crowded due to the affordable date night!

I agree with the other reviewers. We had the meat molcajete which was fabulous. Good pork tamales with balance of masa and meat moistened by a yummy red sauce. Will definitely return.

Really like this place. I come here every time I'm in the Aspen area. Salsa is kick ass and they've got bomb margaritas too. I'd recommend the molcajete. And some margaritas of course!

Delicious. I stay in Aspen about 4 weeks each summer. This is a first time one of the locals suggested this place. I was skeptical having come from Los Angeles and the Florida. We were pleasantly surprised. Although service was slightly slow, everyone was nice, the food was outstanding and the margaritas were delicious! Nothing was too over priced, which was nice. We stayed for quite awhile and enjoyed he chips and salsa, enchiladas and tostada salad. We will definitely be back!!

Cheap food. Ridiculous menu. Slow Service. Tables outside are absurd - impossible to eat at. Cheesy decor. Ordered 'grilled fish' and they served me some sugary slow that looked like general Tso's syrupy slop. What's more, they served my husband and I the wrong orders. We each took a bite before realizing that they weren't ours. (In fairness, they were exactly what we ordered, but a different table's). The waitress took the food we'd already eaten off of and served it to another table and brought us new ones. Whaaaa?! Gross dive. Low quality. Garbage food. Bad service. I won't be back.

I'm sorry local RFV peeps that love this place! Coming from Texas and California, this Mexican food leaves little to be desired. I've lived in the RFV for almost 20 years and I keep going back thinking if I order something different, it will get better. Not! Each time I come out with a horrible stomach ache because it's so sloppy and greasy or irritated because the service is slow and the staff is inattentive. This last time with our group of 10, they wouldn't split the check, one of my friends NEVER got her cheese enchilada, two of our mixed drinks had no ice and were luke warm- we asked for a glass of ice, it never came until we asked two more times, 30 minutes later. As our party of 10 trickled down to about 6, they asked us to move tables! Seriously? And at the end, we were charged for drinks we never ordered. The service was SO SLOW that we didn't dispute the charges and just paid for it because we wanted out so badly. Oh, I forgot to tell you about the rancid lard flavor I've experienced more than once. For those of you that know me, I am pretty darn easy going and NEVER feel compelled to write reviews but this time, I felt it was necessary. If you want GOOD MEXICAN, hit up the Taqueria Nopal in Glenwood Springs, Tequilas is ok too or Nachos in Rifle. Alison B

So much food and sooooo good. Stopped by here after my friend wouldn't shut up about the place. Got there around 8:30pm on a Friday night. Expected it to be busy and maybe have to wait, but it was not long at all. Took a seat on the patio as it was a nice night and promptly ordered margaritas. I got the 'perfect margarita' with silver tequila. Delicious (it was around $8, but to be expected). I'd have to compare their strength and taste with Rio. Not quite as big but certainly did the trick. My limit would have been 3 for sure. Our server didn't return for another 15 min but there were some big parties inside so we didn't think too much of it. She returned, we got another round, and placed the food order. Despite my buddy telling me they were big portion sizes, I went ahead and ordered the open face enchilada. I was like, it's $10, how big can it be?? Holy crap, when this thing arrived I swear a baby had been laid on the table. But the taste, oh the sweet, real mexican taste; and not the tex-mex junk. Their carnitas were prepared how locals do in my area. So amazing! I of course didn't even get 1/3 of it down before we had to ask for boxes. Most of our tab was from the drinks, but hey, it was a darn good time! While the service wasn't top notch, the food and drinks make up for that 10 fold.

Wow, only 3 reviews for this place so far? I'm surprised. This place was great. They were packed even on the early side on a Friday night, but we just had a short wait. (We were told they don't take reservations). I couldn't help but notice the two restaurants up the side walk looked pretty empty compared to La Korita, even their outdoor tables and this was on a beautiful fall evening. The food was excellent. Large selection on the menu. Lots of seafood choices. While we munched on chips and excellent salsa, I asked my sister and her son, who are regulars here for suggestions for what was good and they had a hard time narrowing it down - it was all good. I ended up getting a combo plate - chili relleno, shrimp taco and a tostadita all served with rice and beans. When the plates came I couldn't believe the size of them. So much food and it was all excellent. The chili relleno was spicy, saucy and not too doughy (chili rellenos are one dish it seems restaurants back east just can't get right!). The shrimp tacos were seasoned nicely and the shrimp tasted very fresh. They were served in a soft flour tortilla. The beef tostadita was excellent as well and the small size was excellent for a combo plate. The refried beans were really tasty too. Its nice when the beans are as good as the rest of the meal and just just an after thought. Oh and the house margaritas were good and strong - wow, one margarita and I was feeling it! I'm glad my sister warned me about them, I usually get two back home, but here I barely finished the one. Excellent place for Mexican food!

Such a yummy place to eat. We were visiting some friends in Carbondale and they recommended this place. The food and the ambiance was really authentic. The only reason I didn't give five stars was because the service was REALLY slow. I feel like they needed a couple more people helping out with waitressing. But once we did get the food it was AMAZING!! The chips were pretty average but the salsa was exceptional.

We are from LA and Florida. We come to Aspen every summer for my wife's work. A bartender in Aspen recommended this place. Good margs and good food. We were totally stoked to discover a great Mexican place here in Colorado. Good service and nice staff. We will be back!

Amazing is the food! Service is great! Awesome atmosphere and the best oysters on the half shell I've ever had! Wow the oysters!!!!!! Definitely worth the drive up valley.

Expensive Tex Mex. fancy-ized menu with lots of seafood options. Basics are bland. Go for the simple fish dishes and ceviche

Simply the best restaurant in the Valley! Never disappointed and love the owners and servers. Try the Meat Mojcajete -it is the best and perfect for sharing. They also do catering, as they catered our Rehearsal Dinner in 2011 and it was quite the crowd pleaser. I think it is the cleanest restaurant I have ever been to as well. Can't say enough good things about this place!

Great food but a bit loud. I would not go here for an intimate time, at least during the peak hours. There was a wait of about 20 minutes and they did have overflow outside. The food took about 30 minutes to be served which we did not mind because the company was entertaining. Overall, the food was good and the surrounding area is very nice with shopping and a movie theatre very close.

I almost don't want to review this restaurant in the fear that it will become to crowded to get a table. Best mexican food i have ever had anywhere in the world. get the shrimp tacos and aguachile, top notch!

Havent been here in a while, but it's in COLORADO, not illinois. The map is wrong, the street, as listed, doesnt yet exist in google maps. The closest I could come up with is 850 e valley road. Regardless, the restaurant is very good. The decor is nice. The food is very good. The last time I was there in 2011, they were busy and still had time to pay attention to our young child. I am going back on my next trip to the valley.

Excellent mexican food in the Aspen area. Everything was fantastic, and after we compared El Korita's menu and prices to those of La Palapa's in Aspen, we discovered that the menu was almost identical (more of a selection and more seafood at El Korita) but the prices were, on average, at least 40% more at La Palapa. There is no doubt in my mind that the quality of the food, atmosphere, and service of El Korita surpasses that of any other place in the area. You will not be disappointed!

Probably some of my favorite Mexican food in the country! I'm from Missouri, so not like I have tons to compare to, but this place is delicious. Generous portions, excellent selection of margaritas, free flowing chips and salsa, and a really fun atmosphere. The menu is HUGE. So much selection, I think I could eat here every night for a month and not have the same thing twice. I had such a hard time deciding but was happy with Korita's Special: three different seafood options with rice and beans (fish taco, ceviche tostada, shrimp enchilada). Rounded out the meal with a Skinny Margarita (although I don't think it was all that skinny...) and would totally recommend it. Three types of fresh juice, tequila, and rimmed with salt, served on the rocks. Loved it!

Been to El Korita a hand full of times and each time we have had issues with the service. Food is satisfying and well portioned but being a restauranteur myself I cannot stress how important service elements are to a business. Slow service and we never get checked back on. This past visit all but one plate came out cold. We decided to send back the food after 5 minutes of trying to get someone's attention and then when we went to pay our bill they tell us no discount would be given even though we didn't eat any of it. Come on El Korita!

I wasn't aware of this when I visited this place, but Latino restaurants that are not Americanized are very slow with their service. Dining is an experience & not something that is rushed. With that said, be prepared. When the restaurant wasn't busy, we were there for 2 hours (no dessert). The food, however, is great! I've only eaten the vegetarian dishes, but the fajitas were by far the best. The margaritas are also quite superb. They're not as large as those at the Rio, but they're just as strong.

This is one of my husband's childhood favorites, and it holds up. I've been here before, but haven't reviewed it. When we went recently I ordered the enchiladas chicanos, two chicken, one cheese. It was so darn good. And I almost didn't get the cheese option, but that would have been a mistake. The cheese enchilada was probably the best I've had, if not in a long while. I tried a bite of a shrimp taco and chile relleno, and those were, also, very good. I'll definitely be back!

I get the molcajete (fiery stew served in a lava rock bowl) and that is the best dish I've tasted there. My wife tries a different tex-mex ish dish and I think those are nothing to write home about. She says margaritas are good. It is often packed and there is a wait

I love this place a lot. Best Mexican in this valley. I could not eat any Mexican food for last 12 years since they are too heavy for me.(I am a native Japanese) But this place's food is so good. My favorite is Seven sea soup and Molcajete(Mexican soup with seafood) or diablo shrimp. Food can be really very spicy. I felt Mexican hot label is a little too spicy for me. Most Americans feels way spicy at moderate spicy I believe since I spend long time in India in my young life.

The Seafood Molcajete was possibly the best Mexican food I've ever had. I'm a California girl raised on and addicted to Mexican food so you need to take me seriously on this one. The waitstaff suggested it and were on point as well. You really couldn't ask for more. If you are anywhere near here, stop by.

We stopped in for lunch on a drive between Aspen & Glenwood Springs. Even though it was 1:30, the place was still busy. We were seated right away. Great chips & salsa - especially the salsa. We all ordered very different meals, but everyone liked what the got. I thought the grilled fish taco was particularly good. If I lived in the area, I'd definitely go back.

Lupe is the best! She really knows how to run a restaurant and keep her patrons happy. You could look at the menu for 15 minutes and not see it all, a plus and a negative depending. All food is good, and they will accommodate anything you need. If you are looking for good Mexican food and tasty drinks, this is your place. House margarita on the rocks is great.

To say the food is good is an understatement! If you like seafood, I highly recommend this restaurant. The menu is filled with authentic Mexican cuisine with a focus on seafood items, however there's also a variety of non-seafood dishes from chili rellenos to carne asada. You can't go wrong with any selection. This family owned and operated restaurant is reasonably priced (especially considering its close vicinity to Aspen). The affordability of this restaurant combined with its large portions, use of fresh ingredients, and great service made for a pleasant experience. When I walked through the door, I was eagerly greeted and promptly shown to a table. I had complimentary chips and salsa. I ordered the molcajete which was super fresh and full of flavor. For a non-alcoholic drink, I had the horchata which was refreshing, particularly on this warm day. Depending on how adventurous you are feeling, I would recommend horchata or jamaica. These traditional drinks are both tasty and delicious! If you have any room left for dessert, there are several options. The fried ice cream was fantastic and left my stomach more than satisfied. The service was very prompt and friendly. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, much like being in your grandmother's house. Overall, I give this restaurant a five star rating. If you're looking for quality Mexican food without breaking the bank, El Korita is definitely the place to go!

enchiladas were bland, but the garlic fish filet (not sure which fish, but the waitress gave me the impression itwas red snapper) was outstanding. fish tacos were very good and the margarita was tart and strong (excellent in our opinion). in some ways felt more like a Spanish restaurant than Mexican. service was fair as they were extremely busy. call ahead for a reservation. prices seemed fair, as one would expect in a nice suburb.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
