Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever received. I called to place an order to go and she answered the phone saying "yah" not even hello may I take your order. Then while trying to place my order she was busy gossiping to her co worker. I then proceeded to say I was having a hard time understanding the menu because the one online is different then the one in the place. I am used to ordering a platter with three types of meat and told her I wasn't aware of what it was called, she told me "it's not that fucking hard to read the menu" Needless to say, I will not be eating here ever again.

Pretty disappointing. We were headed down from the mountains and a friend of ours suggested we stop in for lunch. The Pulled Pork sandwich was meh- and the Sauces were ok, but nothing to write home about...The cole slaw was the non creamy type and we didn't finish it. The fries were OK, and I was told that the sweet potato fries were good. We finished up, and collectively agreed on a 3 star rating.

Hog heaven seemed like good eats when I first moved here 8 years ago, but it's really gone down hill, with the food etc. There might be a dirty dish rag smell in the coleslaw, chicken raw in the middle, catfish not as good as it used to be. An attitude of not caring. You don't see as many cars in the lot (a good sign not to stop, never any big rigs). They really need Gordon Ramsey or Robt. Irvine. Keep driving. Rustic Station is pretty good

I don't know how, but all sauces were forgotten. BBQ, gravy for the mashed and caramel sauce for what I think was supposed to be a dumpling. I have been a customer for 12 years. I spent $40.00. I called to let them know, the lady was nice, but didn't know what she could do for me. Being in the industry for 40 + years I know what should have been done. Sorry to say I'll drive by next time. :(

Hog Heaven is a BBQ oasis along Hwy 285. We've stopped numerous times for chopped pork, ribs, greens, fried okra, honey orange carrots, or any of their other delicious sides. Very friendly staff, comfortable seating area, and ample amounts of food will boost your tired spirit after a day of hiking or working in the mountains.

Well, maybe we hit the place on a bad day, but it was mediocre to be kind. Meat was good - chicken and pork. Sides were good enough but very small portions for the price, and lukewarm. Cornbread was cold. Really? Ordered carrot cake for dessert. Shockingly bad. Was some weird white-ish cake with an orange fleck or two. Very strange light orange icing - did not look home made as they say all desserts are. To add insult to injury, it tasted awful. Spit the second bite out and threw the rest away. Boo hoo because I adore carrot cake! So... Maybe it's better in general, but not so good on this June Monday! Interior is pig kitsch, could be a little cleaner. And it'd be nice if the clerk smiled! (maybe she just had some carrot cake...)

This was by far the most disappointing BBQ experience I have ever had. I heard about this place on the news a while ago and have been wanting to try it. My family and I went expecting them to have the smokers and fire pits going, lots of people around enjoying good American BBQ - especially considering it was 4th of July. Instead it looked almost deserted. We decided to give it a try anyway since we were starving and drive all the way there from Denver. Nothing was fresh - the meat was barely room temperature and tasted like it had been cooked days ago. Even the corn bread was stale and cold. The sweet potato fries were burnt to a crisp and the coleslaw tasted rotten. I will never go back again.

Not very good...everything tasted like it was cooked yesterday.

Great place to stop on your way out of Denver, I have been here twice on my way to Buena Vista and Leadville. Excellent all around BBQ. I recommend the fried Okra!

So after a long drive coming home from Ouray, we stopped at hog heaven! The place is rather kitchy and cheesy in decor, but the smells were promising! I ordered pulled pork with mashed potatoes/gravy, and another side that I can't remember. (It wasn't very memorable obviously!) The meat was pretty good and the mash-ees, albiet instant, we very delicious. The cornbread was dense and dry. My buddy Abby Q. Got the brisket with sweet potato fries and something else... her brisket was good, but its all pulled like the pork, not sliced. I asked for my BBQ sauce on the side and it was served slathered all over my food. We also ordered an apple dumpling for dessert. Being a pastry chef and living in the south for a year... I was not impressed. It was gummy, doughy, and it was just premade pie dough wrapped around a whole, cored/peeled apple. I asked the lady if anything here was house made and she said, "not really, but we use high quality instant items." I dont care how high quality your instant items are, they will NEVER compare to made from scratch recipes that leave out a butt ton of salt, artificial flavors and preservatives! So here's the overall deal, denver kinda sucks for BBQ, but this place is a small light at the end of the tunnel and is worth revisiting. I think I'm just spoiled by my many travels, amazing Q adventures, and trained chef-ery. I def think this place is worth another try, with my hubby, who is a BBQ fiend...

I hate being the spoiler but having grown up in Texas, I'm accustomed to having extremely good barbecue readily available and at affordable prices. Again, by Colorado standards, Hog Heaven is pretty decent. I can actually say the sides are surprisingly decent but the barbecue itself is meh and the desserts are actually kinda lousy. When you're accustomed to very lean, extremely tender, SLICED barbecue beef (such as from Doziers in Fulshear, Texas, or Brisket House in Houston) that is either slowly pecan or mesquite smoked, it's just mighty hard getting excited about Hog Heaven. Even for brisket, their beef is often fatty/greasy. Their pork and sausage is a bit better and their fried chicken can be either very good or absolutely terrible, depending upon the day. I love most things about Colorado but it is unfortunate that it is as homogeneous as it is, as though the state is more Mid-western than Western and lacking cultural diversity. This is reflected in much of the food. Having been raised with a circle of best friends who hailed from India, Bangladesh, S. Korea, Vietnam, Japan and Latin America, along with entire ethnic neighborhoods from these places nearby, it's disappointing that Denver and most of Colorado isn't the international wonderland it would like to pretend it is. Don't get me wrong, Colorado has many admirable things about it. A thriving international community, though, is not among that list. Bland, mediocre food is usually the norm, even when doing barbecue.

The owner was so nice!! Here's what I thought of what I had (I tried a lot of stuff and brought home the leftovers): Pork spare ribs - very good. I asked for some of the mild barbecue sauce and some of the hot barbecue sauce; he mixed them to make medium which I thought was perfect. Smoked chicken - great. Beef brisket - great. Chopped pork - tasted a bit washed out on its own but was good when I put enough barbecue sauce on it. Coleslaw - great. French fries - not worth eating. Sweet potato fries - awesome. Baked beans - not worth eating. If you go, I suggest you get a combo with ribs, chicken and beef, with coleslaw and sweet potato fries as your sides.

Awesome BBQ. We had the pulled pork sandwich, jalapeño poppers and fries. All were excellent. Check this place out.

Went there for the first time and it was great! I will be going back. The owner came out and talked with me for a while just to make sure everything was okay. I HIGHLY recommend this place.

I'm from the south & this was not very good BBQ. I had pulled pork & it tasted like it was made in a crockpot then smothered in BBQ sauce, so u couldn't tell the meat had no flavor.

Why do reviewers from KC and Texas talk about southern barbecue? D-Bags, KC and/or Texas is NOT the South. True southern cue is HOG!!!! And did you notice the name of this joint.......? Take your beef-loving behinds and go back to Texas or KC or wherever they have a beef tradition. Let me say it again, true southern cue is HOG!!!! One complaint about this place is that they do attempt beef and shame on them....stick to what you do best. The only reason why they even serve beef is to satiate the locals and people from Nebraska and Texas. The big, black dude owner told me so!!! With that off my shoulders, I would like to say this place serves up decent southern style cue. If this place was in the South, it would be a 2 star joint, maybe 2.5 stars. But for Colorado it's solid. Until I found Moe's in Denver, it was the only place to get my fix for southern hog barbecue. I've never had anything but the pulled and chopped pork sandwich. Attn: people from Texas and the Midwest......pulled and chopped is proper. Not long strands of stringy, chewy meat. The meat should melt in your mouth!!! As for the sides, I've only ever had the slaw (decent, especially on top of the pork sandwich). Fried okra is bland and comes frozen out of a bag it seems, but what can you expect for okra in the Rockies. Potato wedges are very good when served warm and hot (not always done, tho). And the mac and cheese is sufficient, cheesy, and gooey. I would go 3.5 stars but Yelp won't let you (7 out of 10). Hog Heaven has very decent southern cue, but they need to work on cleanliness of the shop and the wait time is always ridiculously slow.....although this seems to be a trait for barbecue shacks in the South so maybe slowness is a virtue when it come to southern 'cue.

For a little roadside barbecue stand in the mountains, this place is far better than it has any right to be. I recommend the pulled pork. All of the sides are pretty good, especially the beans, but watch out for the okra. It's a little soggy. Protip: if you go in the off-season (winter, really) they're a lot more generous with the barbecue sauce. No matter what time of year it is, though, they'll give you more than enough food. Bonus: mountain girls in biker shirts with pigs on them. Think, Better off Dead. Everybody wants some.

Might be a biased review because the only time I get to stop here is on the way home from backpacking trips, when I'm STARVING! Really good Q. Awesome sweet potato fries. I always get the chopped pork - either a sandwich or a platter. Tried the beef and the chicken, but the pork is my fave.

Hog heaven has a barbecue restaurant in Bailey, CO. They serve up some of the best totally wood smoked B B Q, and homemade sauce, sides and deserts. Bailey is a hour drive from just about anywhere in Denver. They have been in business since 1992. They have 3 concession stands at Mile High Stadium, and have been there for 7 years. They also cater. They cater all events in Colorado. The owner handles all the catering and makes sure that it is done right, your satisfaction is a priority.

OK.. there is a good BBQ joint in Colorado. You will just have to leave metro Denver to find it. We eat here only once a summer on our way to our favorite camping location. I wish it could be more often. The line is long at times. Dining area is small. Food is AMAZING. yum, yum, yum. Be prepared to eat in your car, so if you have little ones have a lot of napkins on hand!

So it's a little small but I'll cram myself into this yummy little barbecue shack any time I'm in Bailey. I've only had their pulled pork and sweet potatoes because they're my favorite. If they are any indicator of what the rest tastes like, it's a barbecue gold mine.

We have a new riding destination, will ride the 85 miles up for lunch. The pulled pork was very good and the potato salad was nice and flavorful. Owner was very nice, staff friendly, shared outside seating was fun.

BBQ???? by what standards is this good. My wife was told upon ordering that all the sides except the potato salad were made in house. What kind of BBQ place cant make their own potato salad? So she ordered the pulled pork, brisket, a hotlink, slaw and beans. The slaw was horrible the pulled pork had almost no smoke ring on it and little smoke flavor. the brisket was dry. The beans tasted like they were out of a can. The hot link was OK. During our wait for food I got listen to the employees complain about about someone not being there. Then at 3 they had a shift change and everything stops. Don't take orders and you get watch the cashier count the drawer and her tips. We had eaten a few bites and decided we did not want anymore. I went to the counter to complain and the lady put the owner on the phone. I went back the next day to talk to him. There was no apology for my bad experience, the slaw tasted different. I was once again told by the owner that all sides except to potato salad were made in house. Lied to by the owner as i watched an employee pour fried okra out of a bag. The beans come from a can then they make their own sauce. They do not smoke on a daily basis (this should tell you something about the level of quality of BBQ they serve.) as the owner told me. There was never an apology from the owner about my bad experience just statements like "were the best out there" "it was busy" "our beans our great" "it was only day that consistency was off". the latter should never come from anyone in the hospitality industry as an excuse busy just means you work faster. You have a lot of improvement in food department and the poor service i can deal with if the food is good.

Ive eaten BBQ in a few states and this is probably the best to me. Ive been eating here since this place opened in the early/mid 90s and was just a caboose with a smoker. Rod is a awesome guy and knows his Q. Best ribs ever.. I also love the hotlinks and hot BBQ...makes me sweat every time! And the fried okra!..man im hungry!

Great BBQ.. I'm lucky I can call in my order and drive 5 min to pick it up. I love their cat fish, mashed and baked beans. Wife loves their roasted chicken and sweet potato fires. Yes the BBQ is also to die for. If you are coming by during the summer on the weekend, be prepared for a wait or call your order in.

Not sure if it was becaue all three in our group were exhausted after a long day climbing mt democrat or if this was truly delicious! I believe the later. Very generous portions for lunch with excellent fixin's. The corn bread was delicious as was the bbq sauce! I would return!

When you are starving and every place else Is closed then keep on driving We were both very hungry after a long day of driving. This was the only place open Neither of us could eat the BBQ even though we were both hungry. Finally bought hot dogs in a gas station and at least they were edible

  • kelli s.

pretty jummy. The hot links were spicy and they deep fry rib tips (!) as if my dietary choices weren't heart-risky enough. The sides are awesome and the portions are huge. Sadly, they do not serve beer. Overall, it's ok because the bread puddin was increible.

There is this little gem on the side of the highway that is called Hog Heaven. And if you can ever find a little excuse to drive all the way up and find the gas money to do so, DO IT!! If nothing else do it for the sweet potato pie. Or for that matter the sweet potato fries. Heck, if you like sweet potatoes then have a sweet potato banquet with a little barbecue on the side. Just kidding, kind of. The ribs are tasty, not too smokey, not too much seasoning, not falling off the bone, but still tender. And the pulled pork is delish, it's juicy and mouth-wateringly yummy. If you aren't too hungry than you can just order a sandwich, although those get pretty big also. The only complaint would have to be the corn bread, which is drier than the Sahara. Say it: Sweet Potato.. mmmmmmmmm. * * For the barbecue it would get four stars, but the pie. Oh, Goodness that pie. mmmmmmmm.

If you ever find yourself cruising up highway 285 to take in some mountain air or whatever, if you like or think you might like BBQ, hungry or not, you owe it to yourself to find this little spot on the side of the road and indulge or overindulge (if you are unfortunate enough to roll like me). There's a small white building with a what looks like a red cable car (actually, it's a caboose) sitting next to it. Within lies maybe the top spot (so far) on my quest for Q in colorado. Ribs, brisket, chicken, pulled pork, deluxe sides and desserts so tasty I may have to take another scenic drive soon for verification of past pleasures.

Well, I hate to say it, but this is typical mountain food. Boring, horribly prepared and plated. Bland. The place, well....according to the owner she's been there 20 years, and I'm thinking and it never occurred to you to update the awful wood chairs, the gross flooring, painting it..I mean nothing? VERY outdated, Very Dirty. They don't even wipe down the area where they have the condiments or the condiment holders. They are greasy and dirty. I couldn't wait to get out of there. She even mentioned that they didn't take down some sign because it was too high for them to reach. It was a piece of cardboard that was hand written, seriously, get on a chair and yank it down. I promise other than the greasy stain left to show where the sign had been, no one will notice. The food. Wow. We had the catfish because it sounded good. Too much breading. Dry, breading had no spices. The fried cabbage looked and tasted like it had been fried with left over fish frying oil. Was brown in color (definitely NOT fresh). We tried the pork plain and it wasn't bad. Nothing juicy or succulent or anything like that. It was ok. We tried the spice bbq sauce on the dry tasteless cornbread (they didn't provide butter or honey). NOT spicey, not good. YUCK. Best in Bailey? Probably because it is the only one. Generous portions indeed. Delicious...no. Not even close. If your desperate and got lost in the woods for several days and can't survive another moment without food, maybe. Otherwise go somewhere else.

Holdddd everything. Hog Heaven? Mos' def' no. Where to even start? Ugh. I'll just list all the stuff that I can remember that was terrible from our one and only (never again!!) visit. Everyone working behind the counter was slow as molasses. The woman working the register would wander away minutes at a time - granted, she was helping fill orders, but ther were at least two others back in the kitchen to cover that - and she definitely wasn't an efficient multi-tasker. And cheery service? Not by a mile. She seemed as though she were put-upon the whole time by these pesky customers ordering food...at a restaurant. Meanwhile, the line behind me grew longer and longer. One of the women serving food had her long hair in an unkempt ponytail, with no net - a strand was waiting to escape into someone's food. Luckily all of our party of four escaped that fate. Food: oh noes. Meats were ok, though somewhat dry. Green beans from a can. Re-heated macaroni. Generic white bread slice, not even toasted or buttered. A giant tub of Country Crock sitting prominently on a kitchen counter. Cardboard cornbread. Might as well have been transported back in time to my elementary school cafeteria. How is this dung-hole so well-regarded? No idea. When I saw the white board on a kitchen wall with a list of things they need, with Sysco featured prominently as someone they're ordering from, I knew my expectations should have been lowered. But I stuck it out, since a friend had spoken highly of it. I've no doubt there are other, better BBQ joints in the area. You should go there.

Probably the best BBQ spot in Bailey, Colorado. I stopped in for lunch after a MTB ride at Buffalo Creek. I was craving RIBS. Here's the lowdown... - Cool spot right off of 285 with a couple of large picnic tables outside. - No baby backs... just spare ribs. At least when I was there. - BBQ sauce (hot and mild varieties) tastes like kraft. Too thick, sweet and dark. - Portions were kind of small. - Corn bread was dry and flavorless... even with the jalepeno addition. - French fries were clearly pre frozen and not homemade. - No beer... that's actually the biggest reason I won't be back. Hog Purgatory?
