Wholly Cannoli Cafe Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

  • John M.

Wholly Cannoli is a relatively new place right next to mine and the family's favorite bar and restaurant - Parkway - over at e470 and Gartrell Road. I thought this place would just be a hole in the wall, but it turns out to be quite the little gem. They have cases and cases of pastries and lots of fresh to order Italian food. The entire menu is online at whollycannolicafe.com - We ordered pizzas last night from there for takeout. The pepperoni sausage and cappy was awesome, and my parents got a 16 inch mushroom. Crust was excellent, good seasonings, was ready when promised. I recommend this place without reservations, need some more time to get to 5 stars (consistency).

Great place with the BEST pizza in the area. The place has an energy to it, and how could it not? The place is packed all day long. Try anything from the pastry case if you want to give yourself a treat. Mangia!

I'm sure they have plenty of room for improvement, but I found their pizza to be so-so. Very big for two slices of pizza, but it just IMO doesn't measure up to other quality pizzas I have had: and no, none of those pizza chain restaurants are on my list. Maybe it's not fair, maybe it is, but I compare the pizza to true NY style pizza that u can find on any corner in the city of NY. Their pizza is bursting with flavor and creativity that can have my mouth watering as soon as I walk through the door. Here, not so much. The price was a little on the expensive side to, and though u do get a gigantic slice of pizza, I'm more about quality than quantity. So for the pizza, I give two stars but overall 3 for the business itself. They were friendly and I didn't have a ridiculous wait time I stated by other reviewers, which is a good thing. Will I come back? Probably not, unless I heard their pizza improved a lot.

I had the benefit of trying a whole assortment of pastries, and they were absolutely delicious! The almond pastry and chocolate filled éclair were sublime. These are some of the best Italian pastries I have ever eaten.

All I have to say is WOW. This place is amazing for Italian food. Everything is made in store, from scratch. Had spaghetti carbonara, it was amazing. Tones of desserts again all made from scratch in store. Great atmosphere, friendly staff.

This little family owned cafe is amazing!! The waitress was so helpful. I have multiple allergies and she told me everything that was gluten free or that they could even specially make something so that it could be gluten free. It was so good too!! I would highly recommend this if you have any food allergy but now I know that you can have some of the best Italian food even if you are gluten intolerant. The pasta and marinara is the best!!

We love their pizza! Really good chewy dough that is slightly sweet; excellent sauce; great quality toppings. Overall quality is excellent. Lots of cool desserts too!

I have been a loyal patron for many, many months. No more! The pizza can be GREAT but consistency is lacking. The final straw was picking up my order to go. The two gals running the front counter ignore me for 10 minutes. One gossiping with one of her friends that was picking up something and the other stared in to the abyss while sipping her soda. While I am standing there, I notice flies buzzing around the counter. I would guess about a dozen. I see them landing and walking along the tray of pastry sitting out on the top counter...over and over again, they land, dance and and do the nasty on this dessert.. The gal working the front is oblivious....when I hand her payment for my order, I tell her the pastries need to be covered, there are flies all over them. She stares in to the abyss one more time. I tell her again and inform her it is a health code violation and they should be disposed of. She stares and replies that they have fly traps. Well obviously they are not working. This was a gross and disgusting sight. Worse yet, I pity the poor customers who buy those and get sick. This gal should be fired and the owner who generally appears stoned or high should wake up. I will never eat there again! Despicable behavior and god knows what goes on in the kitchen. In this weather, flies are becoming dormant...where are they coming from? Shame on the Wholly of Cannoli owner.

I went to this restaurant for the first time on Friday. I called my order in and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. When I arrived, I stepped to the counter and was ignored for about 10 minutes. There were 4 people standing in front of me trying to all fix something. 3 out of the 4 people actually looked at me and said nothing. One of the owners came out and greeted the family sitting behind me but said nothing to me. When they finally gave me my food I took it home with no intention of ever returning only to see they messed up my order. When I called they gave me a credit and we were able to ge it taken care of the next day. Upon returning the girl helping me seemed very irritated when asked how much the pastries were.

Yummy food! You should always call ahead as the wait can be long sometimes! They have a variety of menu items and delicious desserts. Great pizza. A little gem in the corner of a grocery store center.

So nice to have this little Italian Bakery/Cafe in the SE Aurora Area. It's very simple, food is super and owners are great! They are still fine tuning staffing so plan accordingly, but it's worth the wait. Give the pesto pizza or Philly Cheesesteak a try, you won't be dissappointed! I'm not a big dessert fan ~ my other half loves just about everything he's tried! If your off E-470 headed make a stop in, you'll love it!

THIS PLACE IS DELICIOUSLY AMAZING!! You'll love the customer service; it feels like you're being welcomed into someone's home for dinner (except you do have to pay for it). Prices are reasonable, especially considering the flavors that will dance on your tongue with every dish!! Try the BBQ Chicken Pizza or the Linguini and Clams. They're not skimpy on meat or seasonings! Also, make sure you take home some cookies. The almond cookies are my personal favorite!

Been ordering take out from here for over 2 years but this is the first time i am posting. Last several take out orders we have had inconsistant service and food quality so felt it was time to post. Let me state that we order here because its the only non-chain Italian restaurant that has take out near our home and at one point the service and quality of food were top notch. We kept hoping things will get better the next time we ordered but I think time has run out on this place. Food is not worth time or the $$$ Here is the run down: Expensive (my last order was approx $65 for chicken parm, veal parm, kids spaghetti, 3 small deserts) Food is good not great (used to be amazing) Last few take out orders food, specifically pizzas are not hot but luke warm to cold They tell you 15-20min to pick up but generally order is not ready and my avg wait time once i arrive is an additional 15-20 min Desserts look sad and tired. (used to be amazing) Restaurant looks dirty- tables not bussed quickly, food and crumbs on the floor, dessert fridge is grimy and dessert trays are all over the place. Food has become greasy , not fresh tasting My most recent take out order was 8/26/15 - my veal parm was terrible. Veal was mushy and uneatable. They veal was either bad from previously being frozen or just low quality. The deserts which i was looking forward to after a sub par meal were frozen solid. Cant relax at their bar while waiting for food because the owners family is camped out talking and watching tv. All kinds of yelling and arguing in the back. I am Italian and I am use to my Grandmother and Mom and cousins yelling when they speak because thats how Italians communicate with passion and excitement, but this is over the top, dropping f bombs and it just becomes annoying after awhile. Not classy at a restaurant. This isnt NYC its Aurora CO.

My girlfriend and I had dinner here on Friday the 6th of June. Firstly I must say that I've eaten here four times before and always enjoyed it and thought the food was above average. My experience Friday was way below par for this little restaurant and I feel the need to point out to the owner/manager that something had gone awry. We were seated immediately, given menus and asked what we wanted to drink. During the next 15 minutes we waited for our drinks, with the waitress coming by twice to say she would have our drinks in a minute. During that time a waiter spilled two drinks at the hightop next two us, splattering pop across the floor and the main passage between the kitchen and the tables. Someone shouted for a mop, but a good 10 minutes went by with no one cleaning the mess, wait staff running back and forth through the damp and tracking sticky pop all over the rest of the restaurant. No mop showed up, but after at least 10 minutes a waitress brought several rags and attempted to clean the spill. However, when she was done it was still very wet, and people continued to step in it and spread it around. In that same period someone (I believe the manager) shouted out that there were empty tables and angrily indicated to the hostess that people waiting should be seated. Keep in mind that this is a VERY small restaurant, perhaps 10 tables, and he was standing right in the middle of the tables venting his displeasure. Other staff followed his example, shouting over the heads of diners for food, drinks and other needs, creating a very uncomfortable atmosphere. Finally, when our food was served, we both noticed that it tasted very bland, and a little off. We ate some of the dishes, but left the rest on the plate, paid our bill and left. Later that evening we both felt intestinal discomfort. I've always liked this restaurant and feel that my experience Friday night was an anomaly. I'm hoping the management gets things back in order as it is one of a very few non-chain restaurants in our area.

2 days after I went and had a 5 star meal, I came back and brought my husband. We both ordered the Bruschetta chicken because of how delicious it was the first time. This time I would give the dish a 2 or 3. It was greasy, a little burned on the edges and it did not have fresh shaved parmesan. It looked and tasted different from 2 nights ago. I told them to go light on butter and oil as I did the first night, but this time it was swimming in it. I was disappointed because I had raved about it to my husband and friends. I do not know that I will come back anytime soon because of the inconsistency. Service was good once again but the food was not. I may come back for dessert sometime. Those looked amazing.

I have a lot of favorites here, but the almond croissants are my favorite. The last time I was in, someone had come in and bought all of the croissants that morning. The owner, who is amazing, personally made our table 6 almond croissants while we were eating dinner just because he knew we liked them so much. He showed us the process. It was SO cool. (Also delicious)

If you want some good Italian food, you gotta try this place out! I remember the first time I came here just to grab some dessert and go, they were doing construction to expand, we came back maybe 6 months later and the place had completely changed for the better! A lot more seating, better decorations, more staffing, it's almost as if Gordon Ramsey was just there. My wife and I split a calzone, this thing was huge! I even had a good appetite and couldn't finish my half. We also got one of their Italian sodas, delightfully sweet but not disease inducing. We were also told by a friend that we had to have one of their cannolis so we mustered up some courage and split one. This was interesting because it had some physical weight but when you ate it, it was light. We finished it no problem, very good. Our waitress was very friendly, she was a bit slow at the time since it was busy so no complaints there. The seating however was a tad crammed, we were too close to other tables so I wouldn't call this place romantic, just a good place to bring friends and have good Italian food.

Discovered this place by accident out on a photo shoot. Best calzone I've EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. woulndt have guessed it from the location but this is a really quaint, family-owned restaurant with great food and really nice people. I'm going to go out of my way to come back. Hands down best Italian in Denver, putting all others to shame. Try this place - you tummy won't be disappointed!

Birthday dinner for 6 December 21 (Sunday). We got there early enough to get a table that accommodated us. Our gentleman waiter sat us and took our drink order and our food order. He then disappeared for about 20 minutes. We ordered a pasta dish for the birthday boy, a pizza for the rest of us and an appetizer. The pasta dish came out from another server, no appetizer and the waiter was nowhere to be found. We had to finally grab another waitress to ask what was going on and if there was an eta on our appy and pizza. Still no waiter to be found. The waitress filled our drinks and our pizza finally came out---waiter had fouled up our pizza topping order. The waitress apologized and we had to start eating our pizza because to make another would have been painful to wait. The gentleman waiter finally came over and although he apologized, he seemed rushed and indifferent. He comp'ed a few desserts. Be careful with any bigger party than two. Seemed difficult for the staff to keep up with.

Amazing food, great service, and locally owned! It's so hard to find a locally owned restaurant around where we live, we found our go to place! Will definitely be back!

Um yes please! Definitely in my top 5 of best Italian food I've had! This tucked away little gem needs to be on your go to list. The build your own calzones are wonderful! Also love their garlic noodle pasta! Staff is friendly and they make you feel like they invited you personally to come eat. I believe on weekends there's live music. The man performs some nice Italian classics.

The service is generally good. Their alfredo sauce is excellent. The pizza is thin and tasty, New York style. Desserts are very good also.

Garlic knots were awesome! Ordered a margherita pizza and it was huge! 16" is gigantic! Also ordered broccoli Alfredo and it was amazing. Service was really great here the food was slow but well worth the wait!

Primary dishes and desserts are consistently very good at this family run restaurant. If you are in the mood for something to carry-out, the pizza and calzones are very tasty. Make sure to leave room for one of their excellent desserts, your taste buds will thank you. The only areas that could use a little improvement are the size of the restaurant (VERY cozy and congested seating), and the wait for your food can sometimes run long.

There are many things you can say to describe a place. This place.. Ooooh yaaaa, this place is amazing. The cuisine is Sicilian, the pastries and desserts are all hand made by a culinary master. Everything is amazing, the staff are so knowledgeable of everything on the menu, personable and just outright awesome people. There is nothing shy of perfect about WHOLLY CANOLI. This is a MUST GO if you want to impress tour girl, take her here If you miss authentic amazing italian food, go here If you have a sweet tooth.. GO HERE If you want to lose weight, GO HERE, then join a gym, but go here first WHOLLY CANOLI... All i can say i HOLY CANOLI!

The family and I stopped by after a friend recommended the place. I have to say the food was very good. We had caprese and calamari for appetizers and margherita pizza, pasta carbonara, panini, and penne alfredo pasta for our dinners. Caprese was excellent and the standout for us, the mozzarella component was just great. All pasta dishes were perfectly cooked (al dente). Forgot to mention we had some of their fresh baked pastries for dessert. I thought I had died and went to heaven after eating there raspberry cookie thing. All in all, real good food. I'm giving a 4 star because of service. Our waitress was great but she had way too many tables and wasn't receiving any help. Kitchen was a bit slow which didn't help the situation. I think I can look past that and plan on returning.

Authentic Italian food served hot and fast to our table. Leave your prior experiences of Olive Garden and Macaroni Grill at home and come experience real Italian cooking at a restaurant run and owned by real Italians. The clam linguine is top notch and the portions are generous without overloading the pasta. The garlic knots are excellent: soft and savory. The desserts, wow....simply amazing. Made fresh daily and are a delightful. You've experienced the rest, now try the best!

First and foremost, I really appreciated the atmosphere of this place, the decor, the music, the lighting. It almost seems like you are far far away from home. The service was a little slow- this place could do so much better with a properly trained staff. I understand that these guys take their time, and the food was excellent once it arrived. However, 45 minutes for your entrees is a little over the top even for great food. I was not a fan of the Cannoli or the cappuccino. The garlic knots were tasty though!

While I had heard wonderful things about Wholly Canoli , but the actual experience exceeded my expectations. This cozy, casual but beautiful Italian restaurant is nestled in the corner of a shopping strip, but the atmosphere was completely inviting, feeling like a Mom n Pop Italian shop. The staff greeted us like old friends, made the kids feel welcomed, and apologized for the wait. Friday night at 6:30pm was as busy as expected, but the 45 minute wait was worth it. A mish mash of different styles and sizes of chairs, fit wherever possible to cater to their customers, it felt homey. We started with garlic knots, hot and fresh and delicious. Then enjoyed the calamari, which were thick, fresh and not too heavily breaded; they were just right. On the recommendation of our waitress, we tried the broccoli and penne Alfredo with shrimp, which was amazing. It had the perfect amount of Alfredo, not too heavy, and the noodles tasted homemade (although learned that the noodles are actually the ONLY thing not made in-house). We also tried the clam linguine, that had a small spice to the sauce that perfectly offset the delicate clams. We chose the linguine and olive oil, as well as a spaghetti in marinara with meatballs for the kids, which they devoured. The kids meals came with a cookie, which since they make them daily, the variety and choices always change, so the kids got to go up front to the deli cases and pick out their cookies. Such a fun, sweet touch. For dessert, I was delighted to find a tiramisu that was amazing, and a cheesecake with strawberry sauce. Both great. The wine selection was good, but by the glass added up to be a but pricey, so definitely get the bottle if you plan on having more than a glass. Overall, a definite favorite on our list, and we will definitely return many times in the future. Best pros: atmosphere, staff, food. A+ WINNER!

My place for pizza! Wholly Cannoli has the best cheese pizza in the area....super thin crust, greasy, cheesy, and flimsy. All sound like weird words to describe a great pizza but this is just like grabbing a slice in New York. They have recently expanded to add more seating which is great but we still are more apt to get this to go. Their to-go orders are slow so make sure and call in with plenty of lead time. 30 mins is about right. Leave room in your to-go budget to pick up a dessert from the case when you go in. I guarantee you will find something in the case you have to have.

The food is always good, but it seems like there are always understaffed and the food always comes out late. Tonight there were 5 of us and we ordered garlic knots first. Good for 4 of us came out but no garlic knots and the calzone we ordered was not delivered. Finally the garlic knots came but still no calzone. They absolutely have to fix the service problem. It has been this way since they expanded.

Pizza and garlic knots. Thumbs up. Service was very friendly. The place felt like a mom and pop restaurant. It was cozy and warm. We had a little bit of a wait, but it was worth it. Food was delicious. We are every bite. And they offered my kids a cookie after the meal, which they were more than excited about!

Delicious authentic Italian food. Generous portions. Very competitively priced. Extraordinary pastries / desserts. The southeast side of town finely has a casual, comfortable place to enjoy great Italian food!

This is as close to Italy as you can get without having to fly overseas! They have the best pasta and marinara sauce. You don't want to stop eating but you have to because they have the best Italian desserts that are always fresh and home made. Once you eat here you will continue to come back over and over again and you can never get sick of it! I love this place and the people who work their are so nice and make you feel right at home!

Ordered take out with my parents this time which consisted of a pasta dish with meatballs and sausage, eggplant parm, veal parm, and large Greek salad. We ordered and they said it would take 30 minutes. I went to pick it up a little after 30 minutes and they said it was almost ready. Twenty minutes later and finally received everything. This is the second time this had happened which was about a month ago and why I am updating my review. First bite of the veal and pasta were less than warm. Same for my parents dishes!! For such a long wait you would think the food would have been hot. What happened to the portion sizes of pasta with the parms? It's almost like a scoop of pasta in each bowl. Not a good value for what you pay for. Also, I tried the sausage which I remembered it being really good before and very fresh. Sorry to say but it doesn't taste fresh and possibly either frozen or pre-made another day. Positives: Greek salad is great but they don't give you enough dressing. Pasta sauce is still the same as before and makes up for some of the other faults mentioned above. Unaware to me until now but please be aware that this restaraunt had 10 violations last year and two f ratings in February and November from a health inspector. See it for yourself: kdvr.com/2014/01/23/rest…

Don't go for the service...go for the food! Gotta try the cheese steak sandwhich on their homemade Ciabatta bread. Also a big fan of their eggplant parm sandwich and their calzones. But what's the best??? Their desserts! TO DIE FOR. All unique and homemade. Try their vanilla lobster tails. Siiiiiick! Check out my pictures!

Best Italian restaurant in Colorado. They were insanely busy. All we wanted to do is order takeout. The owner comes up to us and offers to personally make our food because of the long line. 15 mins later we got our food. There is a seafood pasta dish that was amazing, little pricey but well worth it.

When this joint opened in 2010ish my family were literally there when they opened their doors that first day. Since then we have eaten there once per month. We have taken friends and family there. As they have grown, taking over the space next door, I have noticed a huge decline in service, food safety, cleanliness, food taste, sanitation practices of the staff and the over all operation. I do not consider myself by any means a "foodie", why? Because I am a Chef. A chef that is Servsafe instructor certified, who's been cooking since he was 14 and have worked in high volume, low volume, high end, casual family and super fine dining. As well as catering and corporate dining. So when I walk into an operation I look, I observe, I problem solve and I speak up when it is needed, always the operations manager first. Very rarely will I take to social media or complain to the health department. The last time we were at Wholly Cannoli was December 20th to celebrate our now 11 year olds birthday. He loves this place mainly for their desserts and the way the team takes care of us. Unfortunately for my family they all observe when we go into restaurants because I do it. Sorry it's habit. When we were there I observed a few practices that I could get past and two that I could NOT. One of the girls(waitresses daughter) kept licking her fingers while boxing and finishing peoples food both Togo and to stay. She was taking food from their orders and setting it aside for herself, licking her fingers and without washing her hands continuing to work. She was eating and drinking and not washing her hands. Look I can deal with hair in my food, even a fly baked into my pizza dough, it happens, we can't stop or catch everything. BUT, when I see this type of thing, I realize that there is a lack of training, common sense and most of all leadership. After the 10 time of her licking her fingers, I walk over an asked "can you please stop licking your fingers and then touching peoples food?", she copped an attitude with me, I said "there is a hand sink over there, just wash your hands". She gave me the 16 year old smug look. And walked away. I sat down and asked our server to get me the owner and explained what happened. While waiting the little girl returned and was she was with another coworker, she looked at her, looked directly at me, stuck her thumb in her mouth licking it and laughed. I of course got up and found one of the owners. I started in warm and friendly way. I introduced myself, explained how long we've been coming, gave him sincere and genuine appreciation and gave him my experience in the industry both personally and professionally. I then explained what had happened. Now of course me being me I expected bigger results, as I know how I would have handled this employee as a leader/owner. I even gave him my cell phone number and email and told him I'd be willing to sit and give him some ideas as to how to get his team trained and the place cleaned up. I have the experience to help. I dug into the past 3 years of health inspections, news paper and magazine articles, as well Yelp reviews. It's incredible what you find in such a short period of time. You do your own research. Critical violations, fixed or not, I know how many times the health department comes per year. What is happening between those times? well, I am not willing to be part of the millions of unreported, because most people think it's just a little stomach bug,FBI, on set could be within 4 hours, from mishandled food. Are you? Clean it up Wholly Cannoli. Train your staff, know that your customer base is watching, and never ever accept that an employee should EVER get away with what that little girl did just because she's the daughter of the BFF of the owner Tina.

I had been here several years ago and heard they had expanded, so I decided to stop in when I was back in the area. Wholly Cannoli was a great place to begin with, and now it's even better. Delicious pastries and delectable dishes, wines and espresso. The thing that I love most about this place is the authenticity. The owner is from Sicily, and the kitchen is filled with his relatives from Sicily. There's just something about hearing them speak, the hand gestures, the tastes and the smells, that make it absolutely worth visiting. Today I was fortunate again to speak with the owner, and impressed with my Sicilian speaking ability, he gifted my family and I some of his homemade red sauce, even giving a quick recipe rundown, and some "olive schiacciate," a.k.a. giardiniera. It looks delicious. Grazie mille !!!

Second time here and the food was just as fantastic as the first time. Just make sure you leave room for desert. This place is not your chain restaurant it's a family run place so don't expect your food in 5 min. They make your your food fresh an you can taste the difference. Well worth the wait if you need too.

  • Megan K.

This is 100% a place you go to for the food, NOT the service. Seating is limited (even after the expansion) and I typically have better luck just getting take out. Get the garlic knots (2 orders if you are smart). I would then suggest pizza or pasta. Some of the pasta dishes are strange and not prepared how you would think but always turn out delicious. Be sure to get something from the dessert case-my favorite things are the lobster tails.

Awesome authentic italian. I dont like cannolis but they have a crap load if them and my husband says, they are amazing. I had spaghetti with sausage. It had a very different sauce than you would find at chains. At first I was like "weird" but as I went on it was really good. I think I was used to chain italian food. The place is rustic and small so can be crazy on wwekends. I would suggest a weeknight. Service was good.

High expectations based on reviews, but our experience was pretty horrible. The restaurant was simply overwhelmed. They couldn't keep up with the number of guests, our food was brought out sporadically (with one of our kids done with his meal before the rest of us were served one by one, and the meatballs were mostly bread (worst I've tasted). When we reminded the waitress that we were still waiting on two orders for my kids, we were told that the to-go orders were taking priority over dine-in orders, and that we'd get taken care of afterwards. By the time my 8-yr-old daughter got her food, she was already full from eating off of our plates. The food, other than the meatballs, was pretty good. Quality mozzarella, but the meat is mostly cold cuts. Desserts were plentiful, and they tasted pretty good. The cannoli was spot on.

Still a good dinner and much stronger service this time. The eggplant parm and chicken piccata were delish as was the garlic bread. The fried ravioli was good and our shared house salad was full of olives and cheese. The dressing was in the side which was nice. Family run and quirky but i like it.

The first time I came here it was with my son when my husband was on deployment. I was a bit out of sorts and our server almost seemed to know. She was so very sweet and told us about the history behind the restaurant. She was sweet to my son and made me feel even if just for that dinner uplifted. I wish I could remember her name so I could formally thank her. I wish she knew how much her kindness meant to me in those moments. The service was spectacular and not only that the food was delicious. The owner is very active in the restaurant and I was really impressed with that. I will be going back and this time with my husband who's now home.

The food is amazing!!! The service is hit or miss, they just need a little better flow and I think it would run perfectly! The pizza is amazing and the desserts are great! Definitely recommend

Daughter and I went one day after school. Food was good enough, our waitress was nice and good enough but as one waitress showed up for her shift the cook (assuming the owner) started yelling at her. She yelled back. They didn't care much that there were customers in the dining area. It was weird, f bombs flying out of the mans mouth (loudly) towards the waitress as she got in to work. Strange experience, food was decent. Probably more of a carry out place for us. I could take it or leave it, not a ton of options in the area.

I went here for the first time this past Sunday and had the chicken parm and pasta- absolutely delicious!! I also tried other dishes that my friends ordered and liked those, as well. Prices are reasonable. My only complaint is that it is a bit smaller and can't seat too many people when it is busy. Will definitely be coming back

Great little restaurant!! This gem is hidden away in a corner next to Safeway but it is fabulous. Very down to earth atmosphere and the food was the best I have had in a very long time. If you want something quick this probably isn't the place to go because the food is made and served fresh. They also have the best pastries I have had in the metro area. The staff was inviting and friendly. I cannot say enough good things about this place.

Good pizza, for best results make sure to order a whole pizza. The desserts are amazing here and very friendly staff

Waiting is unbearable as there is nowhere to sit. You actually end up standing in front of the door or beside the cash register. As it was pointed out in other reviews, the service is slow and the seating is limited - be prepared to wait. Sad because after calling 30 min ahead, standing for an additional 10, we had no option but to go somewhere else. To the owners - a bench instead of a barrel with decorations on it would be nice.

One of my top 3 pizza joints in Colorado. The garlic knots, loaded with butter and cheese were amazing. The owner was quick to put our order through and despite them being slammed, we got our pizza in 15 mins!!!

After doing a take out order I feel I need to update. I put in an order around 4:30 on a Saturday afternoon and was told it would be completed in 20 minutes. I arrived at the restaurant around 20 minutes later and was told my order would be coming out anytime. I had ordered a calzone, 2 kids orders of buttered noodles, 2 orders of garlic knots, and carbonara. I paid and then waited an additional 20+ minutes for my food. When they started loading up my to go bag I questioned why there were only 3 containers and a pizza box and I was told that they combined the 2 kids orders into one. When I got home I was surprised to see that the two kids orders amounted to 1 cup of cooked pasta, with no bread, and no dessert. And yet I paid the same price as in the restaurant which includes those items. My Calzone was not completely cooked and was rather mushy. My husbands pasta was great, but again, did not include garlic bread. I was disappointed in the takeout. We will still visit them as a eat in option, but will not be doing take out again.

The bruschetta is amazing, the tomatoes were garden fresh and loved the garlic flavor. The calzones are very large and very good, they would actually feed two people. The sausage was the favorite. I also love the bakery items, the potica bread is wonderful, haven't had that since I was a little girl. The lace cookies are one of my favorites.

The best dining experience tonight ever. Great food, great personalized service, and the home made pastries cannot be matched anywhere. I love this place!

  • Lindsay W.

Service is horrible! They only had 2 servers working and they could NOT seem to handle this tiny restaurant. They got our little girls order wrong and forgot the chicken. 45 minutes later after asking we still didn't have the chicken. I was never asked if I wanted a water refill or an additional glass of wine. The food was good but not the best = 2 stars. When we finally went up to the register to pay after waiting for the check and to-go boxes and the waitress did comp 1/2 of the messed up meal and threw in some cookies for free + more 1 star.

This is restaurant has a fun and inviting atmosphere. Its family owned and they do a great job cooking. I had two pizza slices and they were excellent. I would much rather give my hard earned money to this place, rather than Olive Garden and Macaroni Grill or any other mainstream Italian food place. They have nice sized portions that are well worth the money. The only thing I can say is that they messed up on part of my order and I didn't realize it until I got to my destination. I will definitely be back to Wholly Cannoli with the family. BTW, if you are a pastry lover BEWARE they have them all over the place and they just stare at you when you walk in the door (screaming buy me, buy me, buy me). Good thing I am not a sweets person! :-)

  • Max P.

Id love to give this place 4 stars but could not because of the atmosphere. The layout was weird, looked like they took over the place next door and spent the least amount possible to combine the two places. The lighting was not good and the whole place could use a re do. However the food was awesome! Great service too. Chicken parm and piccata were delicious and the calzone unique and flavorful. If you want great Italian food and can look past the space, this will make you happy!

  • Susan S.

Their cannolies are the best I have ever tasted. My criteria is a light and crispy shell and that is what I got. And the filling, Mmm! This is a cute little family owned restaurant. It reminds me of the small Italian restaurants that I miss from the old neighborhoods in Chicago. I was surprised to see that the place was packed for a Saturday lunch! They are doing something right! Oh, and did I mention the fresh baked Cibatta? Just had to bring some home!!

There may be no space to wait for the seating, butt he food is absolutely phenomenal! I've gone here several times and I am never disappointed with what I get. I've almost had everything on the menu and I've yet to find a dish that I don't like. It's very cute and I personally like the decorations. The service is very friendly, if a little slow. Overall, a wonderful place to eat.

Wholly Cannoli is a sweet little place that is in the process of expanding. The only pizza place I visited in Colorado, it was my first experience with a pizza joint that makes slices to order. I had myself 2 yummy spinach & mushroom slices. When they came out to our table, they were more like 2.5 or 3 slices. I really enjoyed them and the crust was good. On the right is a table with 2 pitchers of water alongside silverware, plasticware, and napkins. It felt a little odd, but whatever. While my grandma said she often stops by to pick up dessert, the desserts that afternoon (Monday, 1ish) were looking a tad stale.

HOLY CANNOLI is right! I recently came here for dinner with my husband and my dad. It is so super yummy here. A great little family owned place where everyone is very friendly, everything is made fresh and is delicious. While we were there we looked over the dessert case. Everything looked so good my dad decided to order an assortment of desserts for our Christmas brunch. The desserts are all made in house and are AMAZING! We especially loved the cannolis and the almond cookies. Skip to tonight when my husband and I ordered a pizza. That might just be the best New York style pizza I have had in the state of Colorado. It was AWESOME. My husband and I are what you may call pizza snobs and this place is so freaking good. Okay so here is the side bar. We ordered our pizza for carry out and it took 60 minutes to have it ready to go so if you want to do the same plan ahead. But folks I can tell you it was worth the wait! SO YUMMY! Also my husband mentioned when he went into the resutaruant to pick up the pizza every person who worked there said hello, asked how they could help and remembered his name. He said he was blown away with how friendly they are over there, and lets just say he is now the type to be blown away by anything. P.S. My husband and his family are all from NYC and italians to boot so they were really freaking excited about the rainbow cookies and pizza. So there you go. Okay now head on over and try everything on that menu.

When they put the word "Wholly" in the name, they knew that their customers would be saying that after their amazing meal. This place is wonderful! I've been to Sicily myself and I feel like I'm back there when I come here. When a restaurant is Family Owned and Operated, you just know that you're gonna dine like Royalty. These people are masters at what they do and believe they'll get your taste buds excited with all their delicious flavors. Buon Appetito amici.

I really wanted to like this place because of the great reviews but it was not to be. They were out of straws, croutons and sausage. The Caesar salad was covered in mounds of cheese. We did not get napkins or silverware until our food arrived so we weren't able to use the napkins while eating the garlic knots. The garlic knots were good though, hence the two stars. I had the chicken parm and it was okay. The lobster claw was delicious. Service was slow and their computer system was down. I would go back for dessert but that's about it.

I typically leave one review for an establishment. However, Wholly Cannoli deserves another. I just had my third child and thought having a cake made would be a nice touch for everyone. Knowing Wholly Cannoli is the king of pastry I thought I'd give a cake a try. I did so on short notice and they generally ask for two-days, however, they were prepared to answer the call. I was able to pick up my cake and filled my guests with a sense of bliss. I read a review that made effort to smear the name of Wholly Cannoli. In the world of food and pastry, that's blasphemy. I will tell you one and all it is worth the try.

Why does it take so long to get takeout at this place? I swear every time we go whatever estimate they give us, just double it. It is is really annoying. As for the food, it has been hit or miss. I have had great stuff (calzone) and complete and utter crap (burnt garlic knots). The pizza skews on the sweeter side. The crust is tasty, but a little droopy if you get the large slices. It really seems hit or miss. I am keeping my stars at 3 since it seems like they have the potential of making great stuff. It seems like when we have gone during the day the stuff is better than at night/weekend (the teenagers don't know how to not burn things or put things out in a timely fashion). So give it a try, but know it is going to be crap shoot if its a good meal or not. I would go with the calzone over the pizza - it really is a great value for the money!

  • Mari C.

I really like this place. The pizza is awesome. Their sauce is on the sweeter side with good garlic flavor, thin, crispy (not to much) good cheese! All of my favorite things on a pizza. Garlic knots are pretty awesome. The little side of gravy/marinara with it is fantastic too (Probably the same sauce they use on pizza). I had their olive oil and garlic pasta too. If you like garlic then you'll love this one. Less is more for me and the ingredients speak for themselves. Pros: FriendlyStaff Cons: No delivery

Excellent food. Calzones are large enough for 2 to share. I adore this place. It keeps growing and growng, too. Desserts are authentic and tasty. They have gluten-free pizzas and calzones, too. Sometimes service is slow, but it's worth the wait. If I wanted fast food, I'd drive through somewhere. YUMMY stuff. What DO they do to their sausage that is so deliizioso?

Hands down the best pizza in town, NY style pizza that is ridiculously good. We have eaten there 3 times (we usually get it to go) and while the service is extremely friendly, the food is ALWAYS incredible, but the timing in the kitchen is always a little off. We have had perfect experiences, and times where we had to wait for a salad, got our garlic knots (which are AMAZING) at the same time as our entree, or 1 time came to pick up our to go pizza at the time they stated it would be ready and still had to wait another 20 minutes. If their kitchen could provide prompt service, this would easily be a 5 star as the food is INCREDIBLE. Well worth is either way, just have the right expectations going in.

  • Brandi M.

The food is great. Authentic, basic Italian at good prices. The pizza is NY style. The marinara sauce with rigatoni and meatballs is good too. Their pastries are homemade and yummy like the cannolis. I gave 3 stars because the service is horrible. My phone-pickup order was not placed by the girl who took my order; when I arrived 20 min after placing, I waited another 30 min. No one apologized. The second time, I sat at the bar to dine - in I was not acknowledged until I looked for a server. Then, it took me walking to the door to get service. This was 1 PM on a Tues while another staff member sat and talked to another patron. So bottom line - food is good and service is lacking.

I really enjoy the food here. The first time I went, the owner was there and he gave me some free desserts. The calzones are huge; big enough to share. My kids also love the broccoli and mushroom pasta. We haven't been since they opened the dining room but I do highly recommend the food.

3.5 rounded to a 4 Short & sweet: Service: 5 Food: 3 Dessert: 4 Wait time: 4 Price: 4 Cleanliness of bathroom: n/a I stepped in and I saw shelves and shelves of Italian pastries and desserts. So then I thought, have I died and gone to Italian dessert heaven? There weren't many tables and chairs, the cafe clearly new and only recently set up, but it's homey. The chef/ cook (pastry creator!) was in the back making huge slabs of Tiramisu and different cakes (Napoleon?). I saw him kneading and throwing the dough and I thought, WOAH! I so want to do that! He came out and asked us how we liked everything, the front of his shirt covered in flour. One of the owners gave us a Lobster Tail on the house upon finding out I'd never tasted one. Tasty! The dessert is huge and rich so I wouldn't have been able to finish it in its entirety by myself, but luckily, I had help. I ordered a cheese pizza with the mushroom toppings. It was a little greasy, no surprise there, but when adding the mushrooms, they sprinkled my pizza with salt a little too liberally. The Apple Butter Madeleines were good but not great. And someone else at my house ate my Cannoli (bah!). I had other bites of their cakes and found it to be quite good; if I were in the area, I'd come back to try out different items on their menu.

Came in tonight, about 20 minutes before closing, and ordered my first pie from WC. Full disclosure, it was a bit hectic with a full restaurant and a line for carry out. In the confusion, my order was pushed back a bit while the back log was cleaned out, but no worries as I wasn't in a rush. Well, I'm glad I showed up tonight and braved the late storm. I'm an old east coast guy and this pie was all that and then some!!!!!!! Despite the craziness during closing Cindy (the owner?) and her staff were overly apologetic and offered some comps. I went with the all-world pastries and all is right in the world. Thanks Cindy and the folks at Wholly Cannoli, I know tonight was a tough one, but you rocked!

We had a family style dinner here that was quite honestly one of the best meals of my life. The flavors in each entree were carefully and artfully done. The produce for the salads was fresh and flavorful. The desserts were works of art as well. Seriously, I can't stop talking about that dinner! Great service too. A complete home run.

Have to downgrade them to a 2. We'd forgotten all about them for a while and remembered and decided to revisit. I called ahead and ordered some pizza and garlic knots and was told it'd be about 15 minutes. I strolled in 20 minutes later and still had to wait another 10 minutes. Got home and the garlic knots were burnt to a crisp and the pizza was just kinda meh. Given they cost as much as better places (i.e. Tonti's) are just as much trouble to go and pick up, I'll probably stick to Tonti's.

This has become my go-to pizza place since I moved here this summer. The pizza is delicious, HUGE, and makes for excellent leftovers. The pastries--especially the cannolis--got the stamp of approval from my mom (she was raised on homemade Italian pastries). They keep getting busier and busier, and sometimes it feels as though they are getting overwhelmed and the kitchen and waitstaff can't keep up. That's the only reason I'm not giving them five stars...they have some kinks to work out, but I'll keep going back (just probably earlier in the evening to avoid the dinner rush).

  • Savanna D.

Wholly sh*t! This place is to die for! I just had 5 star service (at the bar even), and ate the best garlic knots and pasta of my life! Pizza was awesome too! We also got a few desserts from their huge, fresh selection which I haven't even tried yet. Our waitress was awesome! GO.

  • Jessica S.

Amazing food and great service! Best desserts in the area by far. We've never had trouble getting seated right away, but then again, my husband and I have never gone on a Friday or Saturday evening. The calzones are almost as amazing as the wonderful Italian desserts.

  • The Throwin S.

This place is a disappointment. Because of some superlative reviews, we visited Wholly Cannoli. The fried calamari was bland, rubbery, and flavorless. The frutti di mare was below average-- the lobster tail was Australian and just barely thawed enough out of the freezer.... and the rest of the seafood in the dish could be summarized similarly as small and frozen (not fresh). The clams linguine had the distinct smell/taste that it came out of a can with a paucity of clams still in the shell. To top it all off, the service was poor.

  • Al P.

For local Italian cooking, it's one to try. The food is good, but the service can be much more refined. That will come with time beings it's fairly new in the neighborhood. The garlic knots and Greek salad are great starters. Then take a stab at their pasta selections, along with some authentic pizzas and calzones. To close it out, their desserts are to die for. I personally enjoy their cannoli and mini eclairs. I tend to venture and dip into their many others offered to include the infamous tiramisu. Bon Apetito.

Pizza Awesome! Desert Awesome! Thin crust pizza New York style. The fruit tiramisu to die for. Next time need to try the other dishes. I just wish it was more of a restaurant type atmosphere. The atmosphere is more like a New York deli. But the food will keep me coming back.

This is THE place to go for the BEST Italian food. I will caution you though - this is a BUSY place to be on a Friday or Saturday. Expect to wait (15 min). The food is excellent and consistent and the wait staff is friendly. The owners are always there either helping customers or preparing your food. It is a small place but the portions are BIG. Save room for dessert and expect to take a few home with you. 5 out of 5 stars every time I have been there!

  • Dawn P.

Went here for the first time last night, and we are HOOKED! From the moment we walked in and were hit with the most amazing Italian spices, and the family feel...we were in for a treat! Dinner was family style, with tons of food ranging from artichokes to die for, garlicky-buttery fresh broccoli, fried wedge potatoes with olive oil & fresh rosemary, roasted squash and tender steak that melted in our mouths!!! (I'm drooling at the memory of it all - thank goodness we have lots of leftovers for dinner tonight!) Then came dessert!!! TRY THE BLUEBERRY PIE, it is unbelievable!!!! The gluten-free cookies, raspberry & traditional tiramisu and (of course) cannoli were all so yummy!!!! Make sure to meet the Chef/owner - his name is "G"...he puts love in everything that he cooks, and we could tell! Already looking forward to our next visit!!!

I would say a 3.5 rating would be more appropriate. The piza is very good here although it's too expensive. The calzones are amazing, would recommend the hawaiian. The reason my score is low is because the price is high for the type of food, and the service is ok. The people are very very nice but they have their kids running around and answering phones. I understand cutting costs but there should be a limit. The cannolis are AMAZING but i'm not an experienced cannoli eater so my opinion may not suffice for experienced eaters.

I really can't understand less than 5 stars for this place. It is simply divine! I've been there 4 times now. No disappointment. The eggplant parm is awesome, the veal parm is awesome...but let's talk CALZONE...OH MY GAWD!!! My hubby and I are hooked on the spinich calzone. Huge, amazing, spectacular. Very, very different than any other calzone I have ever tried. Wow. The pastries are also unbelievable. Glad we got introduced to this little gem.

This place was honestly amazing. I can't wait to go back. My son and I were looking for a place to eat and found Wholly Cannoli on yelp. Don't let the slightly corny name fool you, the food is awesome. We started with an order of garlic knots and they were delicious. My son had the Italian sausage lasagna and I had a build you own calzone. Both were great. I loved my calzone. I think it was the best calzone I've ever had. Portions were big as we both took home about half of our meals and some desert as well. They have a big case of desserts to choose from. Try this place out, you won't be disappointed.

The Italian delux sandwich had more fat than anything else on it. Just a huge hard piece of bread with big chunks of inedible fat. Just the worst. Why the two stars? My gf loves the place and said it was the worst sandwich shes had there and my buddy likes it too. So I might have been unlucky.

Took my wife here for a Birthday/Mother's Day dinner as a recommendation from one of her co-workers. Very nice place! It appears to be a family owned business and everything is made fresh. Nice wait staff and the food had nice large portions. We had some delicious garlic knots for an appetizer. I had the eggplant parm and my wife had a huge meatball sandwich. Will definitely go back.

Although tucked away in a hard to get to strip mall, the food is definitely worth the trip! My husband and I took our 3 year old daughter to lunch at Wholly Cannoli based upon a friend's recommendation and were happy we did. My husband had the calzone and my daughter and I each had pizza. The portions are huge and everything is home-made. I haven't had such good pizza since moving to Colorado! Prices are extremely reasonable and the desserts are very good. Delivery is my only recommendation to the owners.

Great pizza, great bakery and now great dining! We tried the new Wholly Cannoli Cafe recently and found the food to be just as great as their pizza and bakery items. I'll never order from a pizza chain again. They just opened the cafe and have some kinks work out in the kitchen and serving staff, but the food is too good to pass up because of that.

I got the Italian Deluxe here. Eating a sandwich should neither be work nor painful. The thing was packed to the brim with filling. Some people might say "great" but not when its to the point that half of it is always falling apart. I could never get a decent bite in, I had to piecemeal it together. The bread seemed too hard too, like I kept stabbing my mouth every time I took a bite. The taste wasn't half bad, but wasn't worth the effort in my opinion.

Wholly Cannoli by far makes the best pepperoni pizza that I have had since moving to Colorado. I have been searching for a great pepperoni pizza and this is it.

Very, very good. Far away from my house (not their fault), and exploding with calories (totally their fault but fantastic). The sausage calzone was terrific. Nicely caramelized onions and perfectly roasted peppers inside, flavorful crust slathered with whipped garlic butter (omg) outside, and served with a very nice, fresh tasting marinara. Whoever makes this food has serious chops. Took a box of pastries home. Cannolis were the best, but rum baba was a close second. I thought the lobster tail pastry was a little chewy and hard to eat, but I managed. Has anyone tried their "spaghetti pizza"??

We took our two young boys to this restaurant because we thought it would be a good first restaurant experience for our 16 month old. We weren't disappointed. We ordered slices of pizza, which were made fresh so they took a little longer than expected but the first bite made it worth every second of the wait. The crust managed to be delicate and not chewy or "dough-ey." My husband was pleased at the thin slices of Italian sausage on his slice, compared to the cheap crumbles from chain pizza places. I had capicola, and it was perfect. The pastry counter alone would have drawn me in, and I will likely go back for delicious pastry again. We bought a gigantic almond pastry and saved it for the next morning. It was kind of a cross between a bear claw and a croissant, and it was amazing even the next day. I can't imagine it could be better if I had it the same day it was made, because I'm not sure there was any room for improvement when it was already incredible, but now I'm determined to find out.

  • Tom S.

Been here a few times. Food always excellent but service was lacking it appeared to me things were not managed well in kitchen and wait staff. But huge improvement today. The salad and homemade Italian dressing is awesome. The pizza is as good as anything I've had on NYC or Washington DC. Desserts will blow your eyes out.

This New Yorker is discriminating in her pizza taste - essentially that means, it has to be a really good pizza for me to return. This place, by far, has one of, if not, THE best pizza in Aurora. Personally, I think they beat Denver pizza joints too. I also found that their pignoli cookies (pine nut cookies) weren't too shabby...again, I'm really biased on this one. I found the atmosphere to be clean and casual and as long as they are consistent, I will definitely order from here again.

I was pleased to try this place on a recommendation from a Safeway cashier. Wow, was I happy! I am in the military and the best pizza I have had in my entire life was in Sicily. By far the best. This place offers true Sicilian pizza! (One of the owner's is FROM SICILY) It has the best flavor of any pizza I have tried in America. The only negative reviews here are probably from people who grew up eating Little Caesar's and don't understand good pizza when they try it. This is also the closest thing to NY pizza you will find in Colorado. The pizza is thin crust and the cheese is extremely fresh and flavorful. I prefer it without the seasoning (just doesn't sit well with me). The owner was kind enough to let me sample a cannoli and it was amazing! I have also tried a calzone that was absolutely delicious. It would be nice to see a real sign out front and service isn't extremely fast, but the chance to have true Sicilian pizza is worth any headaches caused by this. Bottom line, great pizza, desserts and calzones. I can't vouch for anything else, but that's good enough for me.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
