Yes it is a hole in the wall. Yes it is dirty-- but maybe just because at 4pm there was a constant rotation of customers coming in and out. But I'd rather have my food quickly than my table wiped. This is an eat and go place-- no ambiance or lingering. Yes it's run by a family-- super sweet folks. We tried all the tacos, at $1.50/each you can't go wrong. The lengua and al pastor were favorites. The sopes were really tasty as well. There's a great salsa bar--the verde was the best. Some labels might be nice but if you're Mexican you probably know what all of these are anyway. And the place was filled with Latinos which is a telltale sign that the cookin meets some authentic standards. We hit this place on the way to the airport and weren't disappointed. We'll go again next time we're in Denver.

It was good came for lunch wasn't to impressed with the torta but the beef street tacos were amazing. Very delicious and authentic salsas we'd come back

Looking for good tacos local to me, happened upon this place in a search. Some co-workers have raved about it, and they've got every right. This is definitely one of those hole-in-the-wall eats, but don't mind that at all. It's clean, and the service was prompt, which is all that matters in those sorts of places. I ordered their chicken quesadilla. It was just on the perfect level of hot and flavorful, without the spices searing any actual taste away. It seems like perhaps they toast the tortillas a bit before making the quesadillas, because I would swear they tasted a bit sweet, like caramelized. Excellent guac, if a bit thick. They have horchata, which I didn't notice til after she had rung me up for a bottle drink. However, she told me to put it back and promptly poured me a huge cup and brought it to our table. Just as good as home-made from their machine, though it probably is made fresh there. Perfect prices for the size of the food. I left stuffed and sugared out of my mind from horchata. I'll be going back multiple times to try the tacos and sopas.

This place should be on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. It looks shady on the outside, but the food is mexcellent! The barbacoa burrito was awesome and pretty big for only $6. The chicken quesadilla was very very good as well. The cheese was oozing out and the chicken was very juicy. Don't expect your chain restaurant taste or food at this place, it's real Mexican.

Few things make me happier than a good hole-in-the-wall taco place. Tacos Selene fits this description. I ordered four different tacos: beef, pork, barbacoa, and al pastor. All were street tacos that were on two tasty corn tortillas and with cilantro and white onions on top. The beef and pork were solid tacos, while the barbacoa hit the spot. But it was the al pastor that stole the show. It was perfectly cooked to give a sweet + charred taste, which exactly what I hope for. It also came with grilled pineapple that was the taco's "cherry on top". I'll be ordering four of just these next time. I didn't notice any salsas or sauces to add on, but I didn't really look. But if I'm ordering the al pastor (which I will), nothing is really needed. Friendly and fast service too. I went during an off hour (2:30 on a Tue) and there was no wait. Definitely worth a visit, especially for al pastor fans. Oh, and tacos are $1.50 each, the proper price for a taco.

Finally found a place like back home!! I lived along the Texas-Mexican border my whole life. So my goal was to find places that remind me of home. And this place was it! Always trust the Mexican places that look like holes in the walls. The decor of this place is pretty much what you'd expect at a taco stand back home. The people who work there are also super sweet. The tacos are served as: two corn tortillas soft, meat, onions (optional), and cilantro (optional). When they say if you want everything on it they are talking about those two things. The tacos are 1.50 and DELICIOUS! There is also a salsa bar that you can get onions, radishes, lemon, roasted jalapeño, and a variety of salsas. Only true the red one which was yummy!! They also serve items like sopes, tortas, burritos, quesadillas, and other stuff. I didn't notice until right when I was leaving but if you get an agua fresca (like horchata or jamica) they come in HUGE glasses. I almost turned around to get one. I definitely will be going back here an trying everything! I got two asada tacos and a Barbados taco. Next time I'm going for the sopes and the lengua tacos!

Today I visited the Taco truck in the AutoZone parking lot at the corner of Laredo and Colfax based on reviews I had read. I ordered three tacos - asada, al pastor and adobada. Quick service and tasty. Fortunately the menu gave an English explanation of the meats - the al pastor is seasoned pork with pineapple and was my favorite. Will visit here again soon to try a burrito

If my family wants tacos, burritos, or quesadillas we go here, no other place will do. Great selection of meats to fill anyone of their items and all taste great! Lately, I've been stuck on their sopes, reminds me of a tostada but with a much better "corn tortilla" bottom, just excellent. Very affordable and for a family of four it costs about the same as if we ate at McDonald's. The choice is a no brainer really. We only do take out as it is a very small place. Service is fast and the staff are nice. 04 Dec 2014 - they are expanding into the next door space with additional seating! Good news!

Best place in aurora! There expanding!! Sopes are the best. I get them every time I go! Very clean and kept up! Everyone is so nice and helpful. Go check them out if your in aurora!

I've been visiting this place for lunch once or twice a week for the last 2 years. That should tell you that I give my full endorsement. I am in love with their barbacoa and al pastor tacos. I've tried a half dozen or so other taco joints in Denver, and have yet to find one that makes a barbacoa this good. It's amazing. In terms of areas for improvement: they could spruce up the furniture and decor a bit. Taco Selene could make better use of its space.

After the several times I have been here, I can't believe I haven't done a review. The food is always solid. The service is always fast and friendly. This is authentico folks. Tried a torta the other day and it was delicious. Too big for me to finish. Served hot and fresh with perfectly crispy bread on the outside. If there is one critique, it is that the place is very small, and very busy. It can be difficult to find a clean table. I always notice the staff cleaning up when they have time, though. Definitely a favorite!

  • Johannes L.

Had lunch there the other day. Nice atmosphere (OK, never mind the exterior), family friendly, lots of Spanish speaking customers - a good sign. I had some barbacoa and chicken tacos, everything tasted fresh and home-made. The salsa from the bar was delicious, and service was prompt and friendly. Will come back for more for sure.

This place is amazingly good and the value can't be beat you pay 6 dollars for a burrito and it is literally a meal don't let the outside appearance put you off this place is great.. But this is real Mexican food.. If you don't care for lengua or tripe or have people that go to Mexican places and order hamburgers .. This is not the place.

    (4)
  • Charlene K.

Terrific Tongue Tacos! The first time I came here I had the barbacoa tacos, they were great. The second time I worked up the nerve to try the tongue tacos. I am a convert for life! If you're afraid to try it, suck up and dive in, these tacos are amazing. If you're looking for atmosphere, go elsewhere. This is a little hole in the wall. If you're looking for great food, stop by.

Que muy Bueno! Authentic tacos & great salsas. The sopas and lengua were good too. Clean and inexpensive. I'd definitely go back!

This happens to be my first review. I was tired of relying on Yelp for advice and not contributing to the community efforts! This place is fantastic. Coming from California and having an abundance of amazing Mexican food this place fits the cravings. I ordered two spies, more than enough food for a hungry patron at $2.00 each. Great buy. Considering they are so much more filling than a taco especially. The quality of the product is top notch! The spope "shell" was light and obviously homemade. Tasted great on it own! The most important aspect is the meat! The lengua is superb , not oily and over cooked. Soft and succulent as it should be. The barbacoa, beautifully flavors and so tender. I will certainly be back soon, next time with the husband. He's a gringo but is always looking for the " real deal" Thanks for the advice fellow Yelp reviewers!!

AMAZING TORTAS! they are so simple but soooo good. yummy tacos as well, and the salsa bar is a great addition. it won't win any interior design awards, but who really cares when the food is on point!

  • Jacob F.

Real Mexican food!!!!!! Clean inside but I would say it falls into that great hole in the wall type Mexican restaurant category that stays true to real Mexican food. The sopes and burritos are awesome and the tacos are the some of the best I have ever had. Great service as well and they have a military discount.

    (3)
  • Micky B.

$6 dollar burritos that are deceptively large, can't beat it.

In my TX opinion pretty awesome tacos. I have had some authentic Mexican food pretty much my whole life. This place is awesome however it's location is sketchy AF! Saw a fight by the tattoo parlor next to it so I was already expecting some rough stuff inside. The layout of the building isn't to organized and seems like a they just ordered a bunch of chairs and tables and just put it where ever it would fit. I was expecting to be hugging the toilet all night but I didn't. I really enjoyed it! The tacos and burritos are on point just be sure to get it to go.

With the word "taco" in the restaurant's name, they are required to have delicious tacos, and luckily they do. In fact, they may lay claim to having the best taco in the Denver metro area, though that's certainly a subjective title. The exterior of Tacos Selene is certainly nothing to write home about, and the interior features minimal seating (around 8ish tables) and at the least, a balky air conditioner. This is an order at the counter type of restaurant, and plenty customers while we were there took their taco bounty to go. At $1.50 a taco with a tasty variety of meat selections, it's hard to go wrong with trying a variety of things. Each taco can be dressed up with selections from their salsa bar, with features a good variety of six salsas. The pico de gallo and tomatillo were particularly flavorful. On a first trip to Tacos Selene, we noted to the owner/manager how delicious their sopes looked, though that happened after we had ordered and were mostly through our meal. He generously gave us a sope to try, and that was clearly a standout dish, and one we'll have to explore more when in Aurora in the future. Despite being very busy, the small staff at Tacos Selene was very friendly and kept up with the volume of orders with grace. Their cusine is no less than authentic and very flavorful. If one can get over the location and isn't looking for table service, it's hard to beat Tacos Selene for an inexpensive tour de force through various kinds of tacos.

Omg!!! Best food ever!! I stopped in today for some lunch and had the Asada burrito with a side of beans. This meal was so good and I can't wait to go back!! Great prices too. Do not skip this place or you will regret it always. The food is hot and fresh and made when you order. Definitely a homemade authentic meal!!

Amazing. Al Pastor are to die for. Great prices, good salsa bar and excellent service. Best tacos have have tried to date in Denver. This place is what the high dollar taco places need to aspire to! I am tired of going to places, paying over $3 for a taco, and just wishing I had gone to Taco Selene!!

  • Rhiannon M.

My husband and I live right around the corner from this place and we LOVE IT!! The food is bomb! I took my mom and dad there in June and now it's their favorite street taco place. They drive all the way here from down town just to eat at Tacos Selene. If you haven't been, you have to go!

    (5)
  • Alma P.

The best carne asada burrito I've ever had. Tortas, tacos, and sopes are also really great, but the carne asada burrito takes the cake. It's also VERY affordable. I think my family and I had a carne asada burrito, two drinks, two sopes, a taco, and a torta for about $18.

    (5)
  • Sounder A.

Everything here is legit. Tacos, tortas, flautas burritos. Also military special is tacos for $1.25. Super fast service. I'll be back for sure. Also the salsa bar has at least 5 different fantastic taco flavorizers. Do it, you won't be sorry.

Luckily I was with a local who recommended this place. Not much to see from the outside but I ate lunch there two days in a row! Customer service was good and the food was excellent. It came out fast and there was plenty of it. I will definitely go again when I am back in the area.

My family and I landed in Denver and needed lunch. We happened to be close to Tacos Selene and it had 4 1/2 stars, Yelp has never steered we wrong, so we stopped. Once again we had a fantastic meal, thanks to Yelp. The food is authentic, the tacos are amazing and the staff is friendly. It's cheap so you can eat a ton for very little. I ordered the chicken quesadilla for my kids and I think they were the best I've ever had. We're here skiing for a week but I intend to stop for more Tacos Selene on the way back to the airport. I am craving it already!!

  • Doug Y.

Totally am a fan of this little hole in the wall taco joint. The menu looks very much like the same kinda stuff you'd get from a food truck and that makes sense since there was a Tacos Selene truck sitting in the parking lot. Mostly tacos, burritos, and sopes that I recall. I had four tacos. I ordered two al pastor, an adobada, and a lengua and I dressed them up at the salsa bar. I thought all three meats were nicely seasoned and cooked well. This place could definitely become a habit.

    (4)
  • Andrew M.

Holy crap... The tacos here are SERIOUSLY good. My wife and I shared six tacos, two drinks, and a side of guacamole all for less than $13. I think we finished eating over two hours ago and we are STILL talking about it. The food was amazing, fast, n the salsa bar had some great salsas. We will be back very soon, maybe for dinner, tonite.

    (5)
  • Nate F.

Authentic awesomeness! Haven't tried the tacos yet but it was very obvious that every part of my burrito was made in house and was very delicious, my favorite Mexican spot in the Denver area

    (5)
  • Joe Y.

Another taco place built from a taco truck. The al pastor and barbacoa is somewhat legit and the salsa bar is better than most. The price is even cheaper than other taco places plus offer lots of drink choices including horchata.

  • Joella K.

This place is legit. The only negative is they don't have chips....but maybe that's better for my diet anyway :)

Who is that in the kitchen that's taking simple street tacos to the WORLD? I don't know but it's has to be someones Grandmother, Nana, Nina or Uncle because this place is rocking and before I go on, get here early on a Friday evening or you'll be waiting for table! As I'm writing right now, I'm trying to figure out how I can get over there for lunch while I'm supposed to be in a meeting, oh well! All of the reviews of this strip mall paradise are in lock step, fresh and HOT and Ohhh so juicy, it's definitely a 3 napkin spot and maybe under your chin. If you love the simplistic nature of a taco with it's humble beginnings and not filled with the newest creations of ingredients by "top chefs" then this is your palace of taconess! One last comment, it's crowded and parking is tough but you have to love a line at a Taco Stand and you know why! I'm still trying to be there and at a meeting at the same time for lunch, where is a teleporter when you need one??

  • Mari F.

Came here for my first time on a Saturday afternoon while waiting on an oil change. It was pretty packed place, but their menu was quite inexpensive. I ended up just getting 4 tacos al pastor. The tacos are only 1.50 and they were quite satisfying. I will be back to try more.

I just moved to aurora from san diego California and I was craving some good tacos and I was surprised that tacos selene wasn't that bad, me having the Mexican border so close back home, I got used to real Mexican tacos and tacos selene hit the spot, there still a bit different but it helps with the cravings of real Mexican food.

Excellent. Sopes are thick, handmade, corn tortillas. The sopes de pollo were excellent, as well as the al pastor con piña. So good. Just right. Will be back.

Great food and service. Small but we heard while we were there that they are expanding. The sopes were delicious!

  • Vincent V.

I have to agree with many yelpers that tacos Selene is delicious. From the beef to the pork and tongue, it is very juicy. Little bland but that is what the salt shaker is for. You definitely need to come try this little quaint joint.

  • Marie T.

Stunningly good food. We had the chicken and beef tacos, beef sope and beef burrito. All were excellent. The corn tortillas (especially the thick tortilla that formed the base of the sope) were among the best I've ever eaten. Food is very inexpensive. Three of us ate copiously for under 19 dollars. As others have noted, it is a hole-in-the-wall type place, but what does decor matter when the food is this good?

So not sure why this place got such high reviews... This place had some of the worst tacoes I've had in Aurora... First it took around 40 minutes to get my 6 tacoes... Got them to go, opened the box and they stacked the tacoes! So they were all greasy! I ordered 3 al pastor (what people raved about) 2 adabada and one lengua... The al pastor didn't have ANY flavor!! And it had grilled onions... Weird! Messed the texture all up... The adaboda was bland too!! The lingua was so gross I spit it out. Do yourself a favor go to Taco La Morenita on Hampden... Those ladies at least make their tacoes with flavor!!

So good. Not a full service Mexican restaurant but authentic as can be. . Great tacos my buy more than you want they are small. Great salsa choices

I had heard about Tacos Selene for some time, but I unfortunately live 45 minutes away and so had not had a reason to check it out. Finally, I had to be in Aurora for work and so decided to check Tacos Selene out. That was the best decision I made that day. Pulling up, Tacos Selene certainly fits the definition of a "hole in the wall." A small restaurant in a nondescript strip mall that has maybe ten tables crammed in the small space. Although the menu has a number of delicious-sounding burritos, sopes, and quesadillas, how can you visit a place with the word "taco" in the name and not try one?! I tried the Al Pastor and Adobada tacos. I can't say for certain which was my favorite; but both were phenomenal. The meat was tender and flavorful; the tortillas were fresh and delicious; the salsa bar added a flavorful twist. On top of that, the service was warm, friendly, and helpful, and the price cannot be beat. While I'm disappointed that it's such a drive from my house, it's well-worth a special trip to enjoy the offerings of Tacos Selene--and I can't wait to try more of their fresh and flavorful offerings.

We went here again this week and I have to say that their food is still excellent quality. My husband loved his quesadilla. I loved my tacos. And my daughter's torta was the favorite of the night. They are always accommodating when I have special requests. The only suggestions I have is to stay away from the sopes. Often times they are overcooked and hard. Also, Tuesday night had something in the air there and my eyes were burning. We WILL be back and bring friends with us next time.

These are good tacos! For $1.50 you can choose from adobada, chicken, al pastor, barbacoa, or lengua (I think). My favorites are the adobada, al pastor, or the barbacoa. For $2 get yourself a Sope and then top it with a selection from the small salsa/condiment bar. I like the smoky chipotle one, or the tomatillo. On certain days they have plate specials. I had the Carnitas and it was tasty!! Great little place to go for a quick lunch or dinner. Get some extra napkins, because you will make a mess!!

I ordered the beef quesadilla, and oh...my...God it was delicious! It was full of beef and cheese, and a fair size as well! I also ordered one pork taco, which much like the quesadilla was amazing. I could only eat half my quesadilla and the taco before I was stuffed to the gills! I can't wait to eat the other half for lunch tomorrow!

Simple fresh and delicious 1$ tacos at an affordable price. Great chile and verde salsas. Menudo made fresh every Sat/Sun. Family owned. You must try the asada tacos Better n cheaper than "pinche taco" and no hipsters 1$ TACOS!!

I can't wait to return!! Fresh Mexican food that is perfectly flavored without being too spicy...that is such a hard balance. They also offer all different meats. I opted for the chicken quesadilla, and my husband regularly has the beef burritos and beef $1 "tacos" for lunch. Read the other reviews here for more about these yummy tacos! It seems that the burritos are more spicy than the quesadillas, but that could have been the difference in spicy beef versus not-so-spicy chicken... The restaurant is small and you might have passed it several times on your way to a more upscale area, but next time be sure to give it a try! The service is fast and it is so inexpensive you can't go wrong even if it isn't your cup of tea. I'd recommend a to-go order though, since the interior doesn't seat many.

Good cheap tacos. The sauces are amazing. $1.50 each. Try the tongue tacos! I see a lot of Mexicans eating here so you know it's good and authentic.

Saw this place by my house, literally down the block and always wanted to go. So one day in search of somewhere new i decided to give it a try. Glad I did, by far the best Mexican fast food I have ever had. Meat was tender and delicious. While portions was very generous. Felt out if place walking in. But food was so good I had to return. Look forward to trying the tortas.

This place was pretty good. I would definitely eat there again. Our service was a little slow but it was pretty busy. I will definitely give them another try because the food was worth the wait

Good authentic tacos for a great price. Better than other taco places for sure. The rice drink is also very good. A bit unsanitary considering people are grabbing ice from a cooler with the tongs sitting In there but it's still good.

Great tacos and salsas! They recently raised the price of the tacos quite a bit though

Great place to grab a quick, cheap lunch. Can't beat the $0.99 tacos! I've also tried the torta and the quesadilla, nothing has disappointed. Everything I've had has been very fresh. It gets busy at lunch, so I sometimes call in the order and just pick it up. Also, its a small shop, so there's not a ton of seating. I'm somewhat hoping they eventually branch out into breakfast tacos and burritos.

What a hidden treasure. Today I took a break from the base on search of some good tacos. And I scored. Taco Selene is in a rough little shopping center (probably a good place to lock your car). After waiting around for my directionally challenged girlfriend I ordered five tacos. The tacos were all great (asada, pollo, barbocoa) great seasoning. The guac is muye bueno. The place is always slammed with people and you get a chance to catch up on telemundo. I also tried the monster bowl of soup that many others in the place were eating. Not sure what was in the soup and am pretty sure that I am better off not knowing. Pros.-price, great staff, authentic Cons.-a little dirty (had to bus my own table) Overall great place-please stay away so its not so crowded ;)

This place is a must if you are looking for great authentic Mexican tacos. They are very tasty and I would say they are some of the best street tacos in the area. Great for lunch and prices are very cheap. Check them out. We need to keep businesses like this strong. Definitely worth trying!

Quick service. Tacos are $1.50 each now, not 99 cents. Had the Adobada taco. The meat was tender but surprisingly flavorless. Too much cilantro overwhelmed the spices perhaps. Very friendly staff, they even came over to see how we liked our food and cleared our plates for us. I will return in the future because today's limited taste wasn't enough to develop a firm opinion.

The street tacos here are super authentic and so reasonably priced! Who can say no to 1$ tacos?? I eat here at least once a week and I never get tired of it. Chicken tacos w/ cheese and guac are my favorite, and you can't forget the salsa bar!

    (4)
  • Spencer Y.

Great value! I've been here twice now within the month! The pork with pineapple is probably my favorite taco. At 99 cents a taco you might as well try them all. I would rather come here than Taco Bell or Del Taco any day.

Totally fantastic place, my husband and I loved the food so much we had it two nights in a row! The tacos and sopes are so tasty and fresh. My husband had the quesadilla with carne and it was very filling. The salsa bar has a great selection with nice big lime wedges, not like those gross shriveled limes at Baja Fresh. The service is friendly and fast, super fast! And you can't beat the prices- last night we got 6 tacos, 2 sopes, a quesadilla, and a side of crema for $21! We haven't had tacos and sopes this good since our latest trip to Mexico, so it's a guarantee we will eat here often.

The best tacos I ever had. Gluten and dairy free. I lived in Chicago and Los Angeles, my friends are Latinos and I went to their house for dinner quite often and these tacos hands down are the yummies. Sampled all 7 of them.

Got a couple of tacos today. Good as usual. The some of the salsa bins were low, well actually, empty. The burritos are now $6 and the quesadillas are $5.50. Nice to see them clean off the tables right away.

This place is fantastic: 1. $1 a taco for high quality tacos (tried the Carne, Pork, Lengua, Barbocoa), $0.50 for real guacamole, $0.50 for sour cream, and $0.50 for cheese. 2. Glass bottles of coke, jarritos, etc... 3. Fast and Friendly Service 4. Takes all credit cards including American Express.

  • Jimmy A.

I adore this place and go here at least twice a week. Gigantic authentic tortas stuffed with meat, dollar tacos, fast service, great salsas! It's amazing. If I could ask for anything more it would be that sometimes the salsa bar is a bit scarce on salsas and the dining room is a bit small. Other than that, it's amazing.

They really do have great food and excellent customer service! Family owned and they are all sweet as pie! In fact you don't even need a bunch of fixings - plain with cilantro and onions, omg can't stop eating them!

Personally, I thought the Tacos were terrible... not sure what others are eating, but mine were not tasty. Bland... you could dump the very meager extras on your food, but it won't fix the issues. Try things other than the tacos.

So Tacos Selene has impressed me with it's Asada Sopes-taste is great, it's quick, and parking might be a bitch, but it's totally worth it. And the prices definitely won't break the bank. Enjoy this authentic Mexican food outpost, especially if you are visiting Buckley Air Force Base.

Is if tacos it has to be tacos selene. Its hard to find a place that had good tacos because anyone can make it but this place has got to be the best one around that location. They are always so friendly and fast service even when they are busy! This place is worth going to!

Love this place. My favorite tacos place when I come to Aurora. A friend of mine and I came here on a Saturday afternoon and as usual, it was busy. We placed our orders of tacos, my personal favorite being barbacoa and beef tongue. The lady up front was very nice and prompt. We recieved our food in about five minutes despite it being busy. The salsa bar here is delicious and fresh. I love their salsa. I also took the opportunity to try their horchata and it came in a huge container. Very delicious! The tacos were very fresh, the meat was nice and hot, juicy and melt in your mouth. Very flavorful as well. I definitely recommend this place. Very good tacos at a great price. Nothing like stupid taco bell or those fancy Mexican restaurants that make street tacos all fancy and crap.

I have a love hate relationship with this place. I love their food but I hate the location. A good time to come to the restaurant is during the week around lunch time. Once the sun sets I would recommend avoiding this place, it looks a little sketchy. I won't elaborate but you should take my word for it. Or drive by there at night and you'll see what I mean.

I ate here a while back, due to the high number of positive reviews. It was good, affordable, and the service was friendly. It wasn't exceptional food, and the location and atmosphere definitely diminished the experience. But I was hungry, and it gave me what I needed.

We came here for the East Side Lunch UYE. I was very happy overall with the food. I would not say they were the very best tacos I have enjoyed (contrary to Westword), but they were mighty fine and definitely hit the spot. I liked that this place had a reasonable, if not overly abundant, amount of seating. The salsa bar had some solid selections. A serviceable tomatillo, a decent pico, a smoky rojo, and some really spicy picked onions with diced habaneros could be found among the various selections. I think that any taco place that does not have a salsa bar is really missing the boat. My four tacos and a soda came to seven dollars and change. I went with two al pastor and two adobada. The al pastor had decent flavor. The pineapple was a bit chunky, but was acceptable. The adobada were quite good. The tacos were visually appealing, and well-prepared with the preferred double tortilla. This made them rather easy to eat, despite my tendency to over-salsa. This place is worth checking out.

This place is awesome. Having lived in Mexico, this is the closest to authentic Mexican food I have found in the Denver area. I've had almost all the flavors of tacos, a couple of the tortas, the sopes, and quesadillas, and never been disappointed. I have recommended this place to friends and they have all loved it.

I usually find the hidden gems thanks to my gorgeous partner in crime, Lexi, but a Navy buddy of mine recommended I give Selene's a try. On a snowy Sunday afternoon most places were closed, or looking like they wish they were, but Selene's was packed. And you know it's going to be good Mexican when everyone in the place is speaking Spanish. I ordered two tacos - asada and lengua, one barbacoa sope, and a sangria soda. The lengua was nice and tender. The barbacoa was nicely carmelized - almost more like carnitas than the typical wetter barbacoa (which I liked). I can see why so many yelpers recommend the asada - it is very tasty! I'm giving it four stars instead of five mostly bcz the service was very slow for a counter order place (though that may have been bcz they weren't expecting so many ppl on a snowy Sunday). Finally, don't forget to get some salsas and pickled veggies from the salsa bar. The pickled onions are especially good - but spicy! Also, grab yourself a fork while you are there. The tacos are very most and fall apart after a couple of bites. You will be glad you have the fork to finish every delicious piece.

This is the 1st time I've been to a taco shop here in Aurora. I tried the al pastor and the chicken taco for $1.50 each. The al pastor comes with pineapple which I thought was a nice sweet/tangy flavor addition. The restaurant is small but clean and service is friendly. The woman at the counter reminded me of my aunt and was very welcoming and sweet. I got an horchata which was gigantic. It was good and was not too sweet. It wasn't as thick as other horchatas that I've had but I liked it a lot. They also have a salsa bar with lime, radishes, and different salsas. Taco 'bout awesome. I love unlimited limes and radishes! BTW if anyone knows of a good mangonada spot in the area PLEASE message me. Thanks in advance. I'll horchata hell up now.

Unique spot with great general taco selection! I asked the waitress 6 variety tacos she recommends. I received chicken, lengua, adobada, al pastor, tripa, and asada. Amazing fast service and good portions. The chicken and lengua stand out the best. Many Mexicans come eat here of all types. The tortillas need an upgrade to make this a 5 star. The salsa bar have very awesome selections. BEWARE the pickle red onions with orange habanero, very HOT. My total for six tacos and can diet soda was $10.82

If you want authentic lengua tacos this is the place. I've been on the search for some lengua tacos for quite some time and after reading yelp reviews I had to try this place. Yes, this place may be hard to find because it's located in a small shopping center that looks run down. You can call this place- a hole in the wall but the food here is legit! Their menu consists of: tacos, burritos, tortas, sopas, quesadilla/sincronizadas. Types of meats: asada-beef, adobada-pork, lengua-beef tongue, barbacoa-shredded beef, al pastor-pork & pineapple, pollo-chicken, and tripa-tripe. I usually order the lengua tacos but one night they were out so my bf got me carne asada tacos. It was good but not as good as the lenguas. Don't let me love for lengua steer you away from trying other meats because their tacos and burritos are very delicious! My bf got the adobada-pork burritos and I ate most of it. I recommend this place and gave it 5 stars. The staff is very friendly and very helpful in answering any questions you have about their menu. Next time I want to try their Tripe and the Al Pastor tacos-pork and pineapple sounds promising.

We went to Tacos Selene after running some errands. That afternoon was on Saturday December 21st 2013. Time was about 14:30hrs ish. This establishment offer Tacos, Burritos, Tortas, Sopes, Quesadilla and Menudo (Saturdays/Sundays). We ordered at the counter and pay what we ordered. From the Menu I ordered these items : * Tacos Lengua ($1.50) * Tacos Tripa ($1.50) * Tacos Barbacoa - Shredded Beef ($1.50) While Hubs ordered these items : * 3 Tacos Beef Asada ($1.50 each) - ($4.50) * Beef Asada Burrito ($6.00) * A Bottle of Mexican Cola Total cost of our lunch with tax was $18.21. While waiting for our order to be ready, we get the different kind of Salsas from the Salsa bar located on the left wing, next to the Kitchen entrance. YES, this establishment is indeed a hole in the wall, perhaps with like about 12 to 15 seating at one go. While we were there, many more patrons, had their orders to go, or decide dining in too. I like the Tripa Taco the BEST coz its was crunchy. 2nd best item was the Barbacoa Taco and the 3rd was the Lengua Taco. I also like the salsa we opt for that afternoon. Hubs also like his order, and rate this establishment between 3.5 to 4 stars. The Burrito he had, reminded him of "home" aka like the ones, Hubs Mum Best Friend, who is Hispanic made that kind of Burritos. Thankfully we managed to get a seat while we were there. Definitely returning when needed. Ooh not forgetting, they also offer MENUDO during the Weekends. Its good to ask or call in advance if needed to be. This is one of those rare places that does not have to concern itself about ambiance or decor. This is a classic hole in the wall joint where the food is all that is important. The al pastor (w/ pineapple) burrito was spectacular. The barbacoa (shredded beef) street taco was delicious. They had a salsa bar with fresh salsas and other things to add to your plate as well. My only critique is a lack of a soda fountain, but they have Mexican sodas (yum). Well worth making the trip to get to.

So, this place is legit. When at first you don't succeed at finding this place, keep trying! It is a little hard to noticed the simple sign that reads 'Tacos Selene' among the other understated signs in an otherwise banal shopping center. In short, don't overlook this spot. You'd be hard pressed to find an authentic taco joint that serves tacos this tasty at only $1.50 a pop. Not only that - the counter service was so sweet and patient, not rushed or annoyed as you might find at other fast-moving taco spots. Sure there's limited seating, but the turn over is so quick, you're in and out in no time, yet you still have luxury if sticking around and staying a while, too. The salsa bar is a legit, too. With all the right amount of options - but not too many to the point of overwhelming. Just call me the goldilocks of salas: not too many unnecessary options, not too little of options, but just the right amount of the best options. And it's found here at Tacos Selene.

$2 sopes (TO DIE FOR) and $1.50 tacos... Delicious and affordable. It's a hole in the wall place with a walk-up style of ordering which is great for a fast lunch break! There's a salsa bar with about 5 different types available. I ordered the al pastor taco (pork and pineapple) and a bean sope-- the sope is fried dough and includes the meat of choice and lettuce/tomatoes/sour cream on top. Those two were more than enough to fill me up without feeling disgustingly full. I'll definitely be back, bravo Tacos Selene!!

Wow, I was not expecting the tacos here to be as good as they were! Definitely a hole in the wall type of place, the staff here are very friendly. I witnessed them trade a customers half eaten burrito for a whole new one because it was cold, this was a very positive gesture and they owned up to the mistake without needing proof and not causing issues, I liked that a lot! I ordered beef, pork, and chicken tacos, all were well cooked and good proportion of meat to tortilla ratio. It was interesting that they used cilantro instead of lettuce, that was a nice touch, very simple tacos yet so good, I tried their orange, green, and red sauce and they all had a good kick without being overkill. I also got a horchata, tasted like a normal horchata and it did not seem watered down or anything. Overall great experience, I won't give the place any trouble for the building looking a bit run down but for what it was, it was clean and the staff were great. I will definitely come here again to try more foods.

I'm visiting from California so, while I believed other yelpers, I'm always skeptical. It was so good I'm going back tomorrow night. As other have said, Selene has delicious food that is not expensive. I tried the el pastor and carne asada tacos and a pork sope. All of them had great tasting meat with lots of fresh toppings to balance the meat. I don't like pineapple, but it melds beautifully with the al pastor adding a sweetness without a strong pineapple taste. I also had the hibiscus drink which was huge (tip: try a few limes from the salsa bar in that drink, adds a nice flavor) I love the salsa bar. I don't think I've had habanero pickled onions before, they were terrific. Fresh roasted and pickled jalapenos, tomatillo sauce, salsa verde, pico de gallo and a hot pepper sauce all were tasty in their own way. The selection let me vary the spice levels and tastes of each dish. Did I say I Ioved it? The only thing I loved more than the salsa bar was the service. This is a family place and that is how I felt treated. The hostess explained what each of the salsas and other condiments were, brought out the food promptly and checked in to see everything was okay. I'm only in the area for 2 nights and as I said, I'm going back tomorrow!

Came here for a brunch type meal. I will say I was a bit surprised with how the outside of the restaurant looked. It doesn't stand out, and is definitely a "hole in the wall" type of place. Thankfully to the yelp reviews I decided to give it a try! The inside is actually pretty decent size. With many tables. They have a salsa station with different type of heat, limes and radishes. I was greeted immediately, and given the friendliest customer service. I ordered 2 al pastors for $1.50 each, which is amazing price for food these days! Al pastor is pork with a very tasteful seasoning, not spicy, nor salty but just right! The tacos also come with grilled pineapple, which adds a very sweet taste and accents the meat very well. The tacos were garnished with cilantro and onions and looked very mouth watering. This place is a must try!

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
