Western omelet is AMAZING! Food is great, service is great, coffee was piping hot but had an aftertaste.

Marginal. There seems to be a loyal customer base to sustain the restaurant but the food was not that special. Front door was open and flies were buzzing around the booths. The staff was working hard and the fathers son (owners) team was in the kitchen but the food coming out was average. Several customers could be heard to complain about the food but the son was not interested in hearing any complaints. Green chile sauce was good on the omelet and that was about it. We will not return unless all other places are full.

Pretty decent breakfast for such a small joint. There's about 10 tables or so packed snug, so you may have a slight wait if it's the weekend. We opted for omelet meals that came with fresh cut fried potatoes and toast. The ham and cheese omelet was yummy and loaded with ham. But the highlight of meal was the stack of pancakes we received. Holy moly, not only were they the size of a hub cap (not really, but they are huge), they were light and fluffy. They were the best pancakes I've ever had. Good job! The green chile needs help, but everything else including the service was great.

The food was ok, but a little over priced. I probably should have just gotten breakfast as the rice wasn't cooked and hard. Also, if you aren't a local or regular where the staff drives by your house regularly you probably wont see the server other then when they take your order and brings your food, and you can forget about getting a refill on your drink. Even during the drive by check drop they avoided eye contact, didn't acknowledge the empty glass, or ask how everything was.

I was excited for a green chile lunch. I ordered the rellenos smothered with green chile. The rellenos tasted like a flour gravy mix and the green chile sauce also tasted like flour. I was sad to find that Colorado green chile doesn't hold a candle to New Mexico green chile.

Oh my! This place has the best green chili sauce that can probably go on anything! I had a western omelette with the green chili. Not hot, but sooooo good!! Large portions of food, I just forgot to take pics.. Must eat here for breakfast!

Fun place to sit for awhile, but my omelette was way over-cooked and over-priced. I like places like this on my travels, but this disappointed.

Great breakfast! Their green salsa was fantastic! Good prices and selections. They even offer sourdough bread. My daughter is a breakfast connoisseur and loved her dish. We will definitely come back the next time we are in Alamosa.

Great local breakfast. Had a breakfast burrito that was excellent. Tasty, not spicy hot green chile. Service was friendly and quick. Looking forward to the next opportunity to stop here.

We went there because it looked popular, and it was. It is also very small. I wanted to review it because of the beans (frijoles) which are among the best I have ever tasted. They looked really good, with just the right consistency and a few whole beans. They tasted even better. I talked to the owner and they are scratch made with dried beans and with lard. I know that puts some people off, but that's what separates really good beans from the rest. The rest of the meal was OK. There is the attraction of breakfast all day.

Tiny cafe in the heart of downtown. Clean & quick with a small town feel. The salsa is nice & hot too!

This unassuming, charming cafe/diner serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day. Dine on delicious southwestern-style food! The breakfast options are many and varied.

Worst breakfast I have ever had in years and way out priced!!! Ordered the breakfast special that consisted of two eggs over easy, sausage pattie, hash browns and toast. My son had the biscuit and gravy with a side order of sausage (they didn't have any bacon!!!). The eggs were cooked hard, the sausage pattie for both of us was like a charcoaled briquette, hash browns was mostly black and the toast was not toasted or a feeble attempt to toast them. Both meals came out to a ridiculous $19.00 including two coffees. The waitress was good and even her looks at our food told it all. Will not ever darken their doors again and I am a local resident, Campus Cafe I'm backkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!

I'm dumbfounded that anyone would give this place 4 stars. I can only assume they work there. It has typical, boring American breakfast food plus Mexican food. Period. And it wasn't good. Their green chile stew was basically beef bouillon with cornstarch and 1/2 tsp. of green chile and 1 tbsp of some kind of meat. The tacos my husband ordered looked totally unappetizing and were placed near a liquid on his plate and ended up soggy. They didn't have the only thing on the menu I even wanted, chile rellenos. I will give the waitress credit for being friendly, however. Would only suggest this place for people with little culinary sophistication.

Great local place, that covers the basics for breakfast and does it well. Lots of food and very reasonable.

Traveling east from Durango, we chose Alamosa in Colorado's San Luis Valley for a lunch break. Alamosa is a good-sized and friendly town with the stunning (and snowy today) Sangre de Cristo mountains in the background. We found the Monterrey Café wedged against the highway after passing a full selection of fast food joints. This humble spot is known for its green chili and breakfasts, and seems popular with the locals. The green chili plate was a perfect light lunch with beans, hash browns, and tortillas. The French toast was good also, and the kid's taco plate was just right for a six-year-old. This place is ideal for a family looking for an affordable and quality breakfast or lunch. The only negative is that, as is usually the case with close-quartered diners, the smell of their kitchen was with us long after leaving.

This is a great place for a simple breakfast that is well-cooked and done just the way you expect them. Prices are very reasonable too. Haven't tried lunch yet but it smells good!
